Servers

So I am looking into buying a server to run ET. I have seen many of the ads for Baltic Servers, but have not messed with things like that before. Before, I had always just used gameservers to run servers, but is it cheaper to actually buy the hardware and set it up that way? Someone from our clan does something similar to this now and runs a dedicated server that hosts our silent, etpro and teamspeak servers on it.

If I would buy something from Balticservers, would I just need to buy the hardware and install it into my computer?

How many cells would I need to purchase?

I wouldn't suggest anything to buy from Ballistic servers. The only reason is did they answered to your question here? They have time to 'advertise' but no time for support? Doesn't make sense to me.

What location you are looking to host your servers? Based on that I can suggest you some reputed GSP. Yes it's cheaper but good machines can be costlier too. To run 20 slot server it might cost 20$/month but with your own machine it might cost higher and you are liable for other things also.

I would like it to be hosted somewhere on the East Coast of the US, since that is where I am from and where a lot of our clan is from. If you purchase the dedicated servers, would you actually get the hardware to install into your computer? Or is it in a machine somewhere else?

I feel as if running a server off of gameservers would sometimes be better because there is support for it, however, I know there are times that they will crash and the server could be down for a day or so, where our dedicated server is running just fine.

The main reason I am looking more into this is because our current dedicated server is running 2 mods and our teamspeak server, which slows it down and lags my server. I am getting complaints that it is a bit laggy and the people that play it more often are actually from the US, and not Germnay, which is where it is currently located.

1. What are your machine specs for your current dedicated server which is running 2 mods and team speak and u feeling it's laggy?

2. For east coast, I would suggest this ones:

http://www.serverloft.com/

https://www.ubiquityservers.com/ - Might want to refer me since I use them so i can little discount for one month :P If u ever decide to order through them.

https://www.softlayer.com/dedicated - Nice network back bone. You can use their specials http://www.softlayer.com/specials

http://www.gigenet.com/

http://www.dedicatednow.com/

There are more... How many servers you are planning to run?

With dedicated servers:

1. You are responsible for full machine. So if your machine get's used for DDoS, you can be in trouble.

2. You are responsible for security.

3. Need good amount of linux knowledge or google helps by good amount.

What ever you choose, go with Server hardware and not desktop hardware.

Hmm... okay.. so let me see what you would suggest here. I am not a computer programmer, nor am I majoring in college for it. I like to do stuff like this for fun on the side as a hobby (kinda like JayBird... but I stick with it a bit more). Would it be practical to purchase a dedicated server like this? or should I stick to something more like gameservers that offers the support and what not that I would need more of? Are there other websites like gameservers that offer the servers like that for ET? Or is gameservers the only one?

Sorry for the many amounts of questions, but I just want to make sure I am getting what I really want before I make a decision.

Are you willing to spend around $150 - $200 (+ potential setup costs) each month? Not to mention the numerous hours you spend on managing it? And of course the legal liability for everything which happens on your server?

For your requirements I would definitely recommend a GSP like Gameservers.com.
