Any admin facing spam issues on their forums?

It seems spammers are going crazy lately on our forums. Just wondering if other admins running their clan forums are also experiencing same issue or not.

This usually happens when your forum URL gets put on a list that is given or sold to spammers..

A step in the right direction
From my own time there, it seemed most of the content was spam... including the stuff I wrote lol.

Actually it probably has more to do with the size of the forum to make it worth spamming.

Getting Better
We use to get alot of spam on our forums.

How we stopped it was by introducing a random number when registering and logging in which means we 1 bit of spam a month.

My wife runs a parenting forum and again we added a captcha to her login and again virtually no spam.

The |ABC| forum has 250 members and the wifes has over 10,000. So it works for any size forum.

I am actually talking about mygamingtalk.com forum :) We use recaptcha since day one.

I thought cloudfare would take care of the issue but it seems it didn't. Then I started using http://stopforumspam.com/ API and it's doing wonderful job.

ReCAPTCHA was cracked probably roughly since MyGamingTalk was opened :P ;)

SolveMedia seems pretty good as an alternative :)

What is a spam? It is something which is undesirous to the people participating on the forum. Unless the post they are making have some sense and are useful in one or the other way. :)

If one is getting spam on the forum, then the forum is growing in popularity, or there are fewer moderators on the forum. One of the best ways to moderate a forum is to promote specific users to moderators this will help to reduce spam and regulate the posts on the forum.
