sorting out servers with bots

Hi, I was wondering if it could be possible to ad a feature so that when looking at the in game server list you could exclude servers running bots.

(I myself never ever play on a server with a single bot active)

Im sure that would remove allot of annoyance and disapointment for new/casual players.

It would allso be nice if it could be possible do more tweaks from the options menu... adjusting fov and m pitch etc...offcourse limited to standard regulations..ive seen it on some etpro servers.

and maybe an option for r_drawfoliage and r_drawsun?

Anyways, thanks for a great mod! it runs great on my old crap computer :D

Ohh, and one last thing.

if you made a downloadable et.exe that pre installed silent as standard mod, and had the exclude servers with bots option toggled, im sure it could be a huge boost for the et community for new and returning players.

Cheers!

Although I host a 'no-bots' server, seems kinda punative to people who choose to use them, doesn't it?

Well, not to be condescending but I think that atleast 99% of the people who play FPS games online, want to play against other people.

And the way it is now, its virtualy impossible to introduce new cassual players, theirs just to many bot servers and crapola with finding a decent servers to play against a human being.

I started playing ET again a few weeks ago after not playing for a few years and ive had many on/off periods playing ET, but over the years its gotten harder and harder to join some random server from the ingame list without ending up on a bot server.

I tried atlest 10 random servers after my last install of ET but no luck finding a serer without bots.(all i got was having to download maps/sounds and skins that I didnt want and that sometimes forced a different layout on my in game menus)

And one thing that I would like to point out is that people are lazy and to expect new players to download ET.

And then have to go to splatterladder to find a server without bots and the mod you like, then go back into ET and open consol, type /connect (IP)

Just to find out that allmost all of the people playing the game on bot free servers are way better than you, and then you find out that allmost all the players have something called a .cfg that tweaks and makes their gameplay easier... and you have no idea how it works at first, and then you figure out that windows has mouse acceleration so you have to dissable it.

Its just to much...and we need more noobs!

This might sound strange, but noobs are good for  FPS games, it makes it fun for the new players and it boost confidence and enjoyment of the game for new players and intermediate players.

And I dont even dare think about the number of new players that have stoped playing ET for good after they found out that they where only playing against bots and all the servers they try connecting to have bots...

Considering the things ive mentioned above im not even trying to get my friends or random people to play ET because it would be to much of an hassel for both them and me.

If I had not liked ET as much as i do I would have given up, and I would say that without splatterladder's server list I wouldent be playing at all.

Hope you dont take this as a personal attack BECK it just the way I see it, and I think its sad, because ET could have been that game you could tell anyone to download and be ready to play in in no time with a decent internet connection seeing as virtualy any old crap computer can run ET.

LOL, not taking it personally. I was just pointing out something to think about :)   You're right on one thing - having an established server with a good group of regulars and members who play daily is a treasure to hold on to in the ET world these days.   My server is usually only active in the evening hours, but we'll take it because we have a great group of people, both members and long time regulars who have been playing together for years.    Anyone can set up a VM with ET on it with bots, thats not special.  So in spirit, I definitely agree with you on this one!   I tend to stick to my own turf, but I know there are still good servers with actual people, seasoned players and cool folks out there.    Also, good point about how much work there is to actually get into this game --- from downloading, to sorting out the mods, to configs and then to top it off, servers with expert players who know all the maps and know how to shoot and move around well.  Its a hard game for casual gamers to try and get into.

Although you gotta admit - for a game as old as ET, its still nice to see that there is a small, yet thriving community after all these years.  The hard part (as you're finding) is finding the right server with settings you like and people who are good to play with.    I mean honestly, did anyone who has been playing this game since 2003 really think at the time they'd still be playing it in 2012?  I sure as hell didn't :D  But as I said, I have a great server with great friends and I honestly see no end to my days of ET.  Why not shoot for 2022 now!

I like the bot filtering idea!

Another possible filter that could be interesting is one that filters out servers that just redirect to other servers. It seems there are some servers set up that are just "dummy" servers that all redirect to one server. I feel that doing something like this tricks players (especially if the dummy servers have a different ping that the target server).

New servers need the bots at first! Without bots players do not connect. (you don't connect to an empty server). After players keep connecting then you can remove the bots.

I just started my own server. With bots now. But planning on removing the bots when there are enough players connecting all the time.
