We have found that it changes the rate to anything it fancies and kicks people for having the wrong setting, so no one can get one.

Rate stepping increases the rate every time there are fragmented packets coming from the server. There is no kick functionality though. So that one you need to explain a bit more. It is a usual problem for players to have too low rate setting and servers forcing or sv_cvaring inadequate values. That is the reason this was added.

Do you have a Lua that is checking forced cvars? That could explain the kicking issue.

no LUA running on our server.

we've got punkbuster working on the server, that is what is doing the kicking, with the setting

pb_sv_cvar rate in 10000 25000

All our players have the rate set to 25000, but since 0.9.0 our rates are being changed to any thing above 30000, usually 3100 or 37000.

It does not seem to matter where players are we all get the same changed rate and then kicked by PB because of it.

I'm in the UK, one is in Sweden and one on the west coast of the USA. As I said distance from the server does not matter as our pings are between 20, 50 and 110 for the three countries.

we also have used

forcecvar rate 25000

in our default config for years.

I've left the test server running in case you want to join and have a look.

213.175.209.209:28060

Also the version is showing as 0.8.2 still.

Ok. The PunkBuster check is causing the kick. Remove that check and it will be fine. The forcecvar is not an issue, the mod will ignore forcing the rate cvar.

Also the version is showing as 0.8.2 still.

This is when doing /silent_version in the client? This is known and old problem .After the initial download, which is done with 0.8.2 or whatever, the silent version displays the version with which the download was made. It will be correct after the player makes the next connect to the server.

ok removed, so now there wont be a rate check any more.

It will be correct after the player makes the next connect to the server.

On my server the mod_version is set correctly. I can see from trackbase.net that it is set correctly for other servers too. I don't know how it could show it wrongly on your server. Maybe you are pointing at a different server with the Rcon Unlimited?

You have a original menu modifying custom pk3 in either etmain or in silent directory.
