A step in the right direction
I have noticed playing Silent Mod that I can see enemy tripmines. So they can see mine and avoid them too.

Is this a bug, or intentional? Is there a cvar that turns this off?

There is no reason to even plant tripmines if the other team can see them.

Thanks!

It is intentional. In normal world you can see the wire too. The main reason for them to be visible however is that they are powerful enough, besides they can be planted practically everywhere. So to get real use of tripmines you have to be clever.

Yes I understand.

Is it possible to have a thin metal wire then instead of a bright laser beam? I don't think they had lasers in World War II. Or maybe as you gain engineer skill they can be less-detectable?

Laser beam would not be visible at that extent and therefore it doesn't resemble one. It looks more like a plastic rope or something. However, seriously, we have allready reworked the wire for the next version.
