Speccy is another tool from Piriform, whose CCleaner system cleaning utility we’ve raved about for years.

It’s a system information tool for Windows, and when you first run it it tells you about your PC in exhaustive detail - so for example it doesn’t just tell you what CPU you have and how fast it is, but also how hot it’s running and what architecture it uses.

And that’s just the summary. Speccy offers much more than that. Open up the CPU section and you’ll see details of core and bus speeds, cache size, clock multipliers and  anything else you might conceivably want to know.

Why you need it

They say that knowledge is power, and there’s certainly lots of knowledge here.

One of Speccy’s most useful features is its ability to read your hard disk’s SMART data, which can give you early warning of a hard disk failure. But all the information here is interesting, especially if you want to run benchmarks to see how your system compares with PCs running similar hardware.

The app is compatible with Windows from Windows XP to Windows 10 and supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, but Windows RT isn’t supported.
