enemy territory Fix sound in ET on Linux

If any of you encounters sound problems (no sound in particular) in Enemy Territory on linux this tiny article might help you.

 

The problem exists because Enemy Territory and quake alike games were designed for OSS sound system and there is a problem on the most recent distributions because OSS support might have been removed (example).

 

The easiest way to fix this is to use et-sdl-sound which can be found here: http://nullkey.kapsi.fi/et-sdl-sound/

Just follow the instructions and enjoy sound in game again.

=> I've tried last year installing ET on Ubuntu 10.2, and this sound-problem took me long-time to solve and find the good info (yes i am a noob)

 

But I remember I was encountering another "big" problem : the "keyboard-mapping" (sorry for inexact term) was wrong for many things: for vsays, for shortcuts, for binds etc .. so I was obliged to revert to micro$oft (for information, when Punkbuster was still alive, playing on Linux was my only way to avoid lags-peaks)

ET isn't even recogniding sny of the pk3 files I download either.

 

Thanks for the fix. I wonder how it works... inserting a libsdl lib binary by the looks of it. I would guess ET is dependent on an old SDL version.
