The holidays are an expensive time, so we’re bringing you a special treat: a full, free, fun Windows program to download every day until Christmas.

Peek behind our downloads advent calendar's 17th door to find On1 Effects – a suite of professional-level filters to make your photographs look amazing.

If you own Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, you can use On1 Effects as a set of plugins, accessible through the normal menu system. Don't worry if you don't though – On1 Effects also works as a standalone photo editor.

Premium filters

Many of the filters have a vintage feel that adds a sense of depth and warmth to your pictures, or simulates the effect of old film.

This isn't just an Instagram-simulator, though – it works with high-resolution photos, and you can layer and adjust filters to create bespoke effects. There's also an adjustment brush, as well as textures, borders, and glow effects.

If you're particularly pleased with the filters you've applied, you can save them as a profile to use again on another photo that needs a facelift.
