  1. If you ask a console gamer, they’ll go on at length about the perennial rivalry between the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, and which you should choose to play Fortnite on. However, PC gamers have a similar feud: Nvidia vs AMD. And, even if you’ve never heard about it before, the sheer amount of competition and innovation that’s resulted from this battle is nothing short of amazing. Still, if you’re not willing to pledge loyalty to one of these tech behemoths, it can be hard to decide what the best graphics card for your needs is. Don’t worry though, we here at TechRadar have decided to sit down and figure out once and for all the true winner in the battle of Nvidia vs AMD. (Spoiler: it never ends). These days, the Nvidia vs AMD battle is in an awkward position. Almost two years after the release of the Nvidia GTX 10 series, it released the Turing architecture with the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080, RTX 2070 and RTX 2060 – GPUs that are much more expensive than their predecessors. However, the GTX 1660 Ti bucks the trend a bit. And, while AMD launched Vega back in 2017 and AMD Navi is off in the distance, AMD’s new Radeon VII directly competes with the RTX 2080. But, that doesn’t mean it’s forgotten about the budget market – AMD keeps releasing new Polaris cards, like the Radeon RX 590, aimed at the budget-focused 1080p segment. No matter how you slice it, neither Nvidia or AMD graphics cards all over the place, so that’s why we crafted this guide – to dive in and figure out how they differ. From their exclusive features to their price-to-performance ratio, even down to their drivers, and you can’t forget all those pesky exclusive features, either. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/SJFgGYHopSgQpZGXodYuTV.jpg There are graphics card choices for days Image Credit: TechRadar PriceAnyone who browses Reddit or comment sections on tech websites will tell you that AMD is widely known for its affordability, and Nvidia for its high-end performance and high prices. But, are they actually right? Well, kind of. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is listed at $1,199 (£1,099, AU$1,899), which is almost twice the price of the last-generation GTX 1080 Ti. This price bump continues down the line, with the RTX 2080 at $799 (£749, AU$1,199) and the RTX 2070 at $599 (£569, AU$899). During the reveal keynote, Nvidia claimed that they would start at lower prices, for instance, the 2080 Ti should be starting at $999 (about £760, AU$1,385) – but we haven’t seen any cards offered at these prices. Right now, the most affordable Nvidia Turing card is the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660, which starts at $279 (£259, AU$469). Luckily, Nvidia Turing finally got an affordable graphics card. As for AMD, you can find a Radeon RX 500 card for a pittance in comparison. But, AMD is competing with Nvidia again at the high-end with the AMD Radeon VII, which will set you back $699 (£799, AU$1,169), for performance that is almost equivalent to the RTX 2080 in most cases. At the end of the day, the better price is going to depend on where you’re lucky enough to find a discount. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/awQ52kswD2vq35Gq94QKDc.jpg Image Credit: Nvidia PerformanceWhen you’re trying to build a PC that’s more powerful than your arch-enemy’s, buying a graphics card isn’t a matter of price but performance. Packing the best performance for the lowest cost is the arguably the most pertinent factor in driving GPU sales. Right now the RTX 2080 Ti completely blows away every other consumer-grade graphics card with 11GB of GDDR6 memory and high-end Tensor and RT cores that will enable AI-controlled super sampling and real-time ray tracing. AMD right now doesn’t have anything in the same ballpark – but does that even matter? AMD has always been known for being the clear value champions, whereas Nvidia usually has more powerful hardware. But, at CES 2019, AMD revealed the Radeon VII. And, now that we’ve got our hands on it for testing, we can say that it’s on equal footing with the RTX 2080 – at least until you turn DirectX 12 on. However, with its 16GB of HBM2 memory, the AMD Radeon VII will shine for any aspiring creatives out there. The lowest end current-generation graphics card in the RTX lineup is the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060, with performance that outmatches the AMD Vega 56 at the same price point. And, while the prices for these two GPUs are mostly comparable, AMD is currently dominating the budget-to-mid-range product stack with cards like the AMD Radeon RX 580. However, Nvidia just launched the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, which directly competes with the AMD Radeon RX 580 in both price and performance. At the end of the day, AMD and Nvidia are occupying completely different sides of the marketplace right now, so the best choice is going to rely on what games you’re trying to play and at what resolution. If you’re trying to play games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey at 4K, you’re going to want to go with Nvidia. But, if you just want to play Overwatch at 1080p with a high refresh rate – go with AMD. However, that Radeon VII is looking promising for 4K performance, too – especially with that 16GB of HBM2 memory. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/FjjYDGNVtnoWKeZvffE5be.jpg Image Credit: AMD Software, drivers and featuresOne key draw to using Nvidia hardware over AMD is the Green Team’s GeForce Experience software. Because it delivers driver updates and optimizes games in addition to letting you broadcast gameplay and capture screenshots as well as videos directly from its easy-to-use interface, Nvidia GeForce Experience is posited as the one PC gaming application to rule them all. Meanwhile, AMD’s newly announced Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition aims to overtake Nvidia’s solution. The latest update is stacked features including automatic overclocking (that doesn’t need tensor cores) and stream games to your mobile device. AMD’s latest GPU software will even let you stream VR games to your phone or standalone VR headsets. So, you can leverage the power of your AMD graphics card to play the best VR games without slowdown. Radeon Software’s underlying benefit, of course, is also more consistent updates driver updates to account for every major game release. As of December 2016, you could already livestream via Radeon Crimson ReLive, but now you can really customize your broadcast with a Xplit/OBS-style program from AMD and multi-channel audio control. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/42cda44bc804da84ca5872dfd32a645c.jpg Image Credit: Nvidia Still, GeForce Experience has the game optimization features we’re all crazy for. So when you don’t know what settings are best for your computer in The Witcher 3, Nvidia takes care of the heavy lifting for you. AMD users can download and install Raptr’s Gaming Evolved tool to optimize their gaming experience. However, the add-on is less than ideal considering its biggest rival’s audience can accomplish nearly everything from within GeForce Experience. That includes using Nvidia Ansel to take way cool in-game photos at resolutions exceeding 63K (16 times that of which a 4K monitor can display). Nvidia also has a leg up when it comes to streaming games whether it’s to another gaming PC with at least a Maxwell-based GPU, as well as the company’s self-made tablets and set-top box. Not to mention, Nvidia also has a cloud-based gaming service call GeForce Now available to Windows 10 and MacOS users. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/MQ9jDoHDVKsRTdUgUP7tr3.jpg Image Credit: Nvidia ExclusivityIt was once rumored that AMD and Nvidia were enacting shady tactics, “paying off” game developers to show preferential treatment towards one or the other. Were this the case, it would certainly explain why certain games run better using GeForce graphics than Radeon and vice versa. Fortunately, besides new technologies like ray tracing and deep learning super-sampling in the new Nvidia Turing cards, we don’t see these concerns from PC gamers as much anymore – but they still exist. Following its Capsaicin & Cream livestream event at GDC 2017, we spoke with AMD its to discuss its strategy in contending with Nvidia. The news that the company would partner with Bethesda Softworks to optimize its games for Radeon, Ryzen or both was worrying to say the least. And it still is. At the time, the potential for games operating more smoothly on AMD systems meant that Nvidia could fight back by partnering with an equally large publisher. Although the latter maneuver hasn’t happened yet, early Wolfenstein II performance comparisons, such as this one from have exhibited better performance and lower temps coming from the AMD Radeon RX 64 when pitted against Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1080.We’re not saying there’s a bias towards AMD in Bethesda’s technical design decisions, however we aren’t ready to take off our tin foil hats quite yet either. Of course, Bethesda is hardly the only company to show favoritism to either team red or green. If you ever see an AMD or Nvidia splash screen ahead of the title page when you start a game, you can bet it will run better with that company’s hardware. So, which is better? NeitherThere’s so much to love, and in some instances “dis-love,” about both Nvidia and AMD graphics. In the end, both of these companies rely on competition with each other to thrive. Suffice to say, the Nvidia vs AMD debate requires that you understand there’s a reason Radeon and GeForce GPUs are so similar in performance right now. Each company is doing its best to keep up with the mindshare of the other, and that’s good for us. They’re basically fighting for our money, learning from each other’s mistakes and legislating marked improvements along the way. It’s up to you who wins the fiery contest of Nvidia vs AMD, although we will say this: Nvidia is unmatched in the 4K market right now. If it helps any, the RTX 2080 Ti is probably your best bet if you want your PC to keep up with your Ultra HD display – as long as you can afford it. If you’re on a budget, though, Nvidia and AMD graphics cards will be about the same, at least until lower-end Turing cards make their way to the public. These are the best PC games you can play right nowhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/zTZ5tNrPjGQ
  2. A new report from the hardware security firm Eclypsium has revealed that hackers can corrupt the firmware of bare-metal cloud servers so that they can regain access to the servers after they've been released and reassigned to other customers. A bare-metal server is a physical server that is rented to one customer at a time and many companies in the cloud services industry offer these servers to their customers because of their flexibility and security benefits. Once a customer is finished with the server, it is released back to the cloud company and the provider wipes the server of any customer data so that it can make it available to others. However, in its latest experiment, Eclypsium discovered that cloud service providers are not doing enough when it comes to properly wiping base-metal servers. Cloud is the biggest security risk facing businesses todayData in the cloud is more exposed than organisations thinkHow to choose a cloud storage and backup providerThe team was successfully able to make modifications to a server's baseboard management controller (BMC) firmware which a potential attacker could use to access a server after it was wiped and reassigned to another customer. Bare-metal cloud server securityLast year, researchers from Eclypsium discovered vulnerabilities in the BMC firmware of Super Micro motherboards and they used this knowledge to exploit IBM's SoftLayer cloud service which uses Super Micro hardware. The company explained why it chose IBM SoftLayer for its experiment, saying: “We originally chose SoftLayer for our testing environment because of its simplified logistics and access to hardware but noticed SoftLayer was using SuperMicro server hardware that based on our previous research we knew were vulnerable. It should be noted that SoftLayer uses other hardware vendors in addition to SuperMicro, and SuperMicro devices are used by many other service providers." Eclypsium called its successful test Cloudborne and the company's research team was able to update a rented bare-metal server's BMC firmware with one they had prepared in advance which contained just one single bit flip so that they could recognize it at a later point. However, an attacker could add malicious code to the BMC firmware opening a server up to backdoor accounts. IBM responded to Eclypsium's research in a blog post in which it detailed how it had reconfigured its cloud service to reflash all BMC firmware to factory settings and erase all logs and generate new passwords for each client. 4. Nvidia GTX graphics cards are alive and well following the release of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Apparently, Team Green’s new mid-range GPU will soon be joined by two more affordable models. Digitimes reports there are plans to release a GeForce GTX 1660 on March 15th for $229 (about £170, AU$320). What’s more, there will also purportedly be a GeForce GTX 1650 launching on April 30th for $179 (about £135, AU$250). If this report is true, Nvidia could quickly dominate the entry-level market in the PC gaming world, especially if both of these GPUs are as impressive as the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Where are AMD’s reasonably priced graphics cards? Probably with NaviThe Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is the most powerful graphics cardFind the best processors to go with these newly rumored GPUsProducing GeForce GTX 1660 and the GeForce GTX 1650 cards certainly wouldn’t be a difficult task for Nvidia. The company could just use cut-down versions the its existing Turing TU116 GPU core with fewer CUDA cores or slightly lower operating frequencies to produce more affordable models. According to VideoCardz, the GeForce GTX 1660 will feature 1,280 CUDA cores with either 6GB or 3GB of GDDR5 video memory. The GeForce GTX 1650, on the other hand, is still heavily shrouded in mystery and we’ve only heard it will come equipped with 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM. The motive behind Nvidia’s sudden stream of affordable GPUs is far more transparent. Earlier this month, the company announced its Q4 FY2019 results with revenue dipping to its lowest levels since mid-2017. Part of its poor performance was due to the low sales of high-priced GeForce RTX graphics cards. It’s almost certain that Nvidia is trying to reverse its fortunes for the better by selling as many mid- and entry-level graphics cards it can. 6. Gaming used to be hard because of two things: money and time. As many games were designed to be played in an arcade, they leant into being intensely tricky in order to get your pocket money. Meanwhile, the games that were always destined for consoles usually just weren’t that long. In order to counteract their short playtime, home console games were made more difficult to prevent you feeling like you wasted your hard-earned cash- 30 hours to finish a four-hour story is value for money, right? As time progress, games changed and developers learnt the benefits of creating longer, less difficult games. However, while that’s something gamers claimed they wanted, in reality many still long for the nostalgia that comes with challenging games. They remind us of the arcade’s frustrating legacy. This has led to titles such as the infamous Demon’s Souls thriving, as saying that a game is ‘hard’ has suddenly become a positive thing in marketing. This masochistic awakening has seen the revival of a genre, buried by the sands of time, that is designed to kill you and sees your progression tied more to you than your character: the Roguelike… roguelite… rogue-ish. Roguelikes are all about getting better because you have suffered. Only through great suffering can one attain great power. Only after failing 1000 times can you expect to succeed once. Roguelikes take masochism and gamify it, rewarding your stubbornness in a way that no other genre does. So this is our little guide to some of the best rogue-inspired games around. A genre full of dying a lot, making mistakes, and scraping through by the skin of your eyes. Yes, your eyes... The Shoot ‘Em Up: The Binding of Isaachttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/zAjHTJDF2RdiP7JqCqtqmj.jpg Image credit: Edmund McMillen The Binding of Isaac is an eight-year-old game that has been consistently receiving updates up until last year. For many, this is the quintessential roguelike game. You play Isaac – initially at least – a poor boy whose mother has been told by God to strike him down. He goes into hiding and winds up in a dungeon filled with monstrosities that seem intent on killing him. If you guide Isaac down deep enough you actually go through your mother’s womb and even fight Satan. You read that right. The joy of this game comes from the runs where you become all-powerful. You can become a flying laser-firing cyclops that turns to stone when stationery. You can have an army of babies that attack enemies for you. Hell, you can spit teeth at enemies in order to take them out. The game gets harder the better you do, with bosses becoming more difficult and new areas unlocking. The real challenge though is in the other characters. As things progress you'll unlock more powerful playable characters, less powerful ones, and even biblical babies. Eventually, you unlock The Lost, a ghost baby that can only take one hit. Yes, just one hit and it is game over - to put this in perspective, the latter bosses are all bullet hell fights. You might be wondering why you would do this to yourself, well the only way to truly complete the game is to complete it with every character. The Binding of Isaac will crush you, and you will love it. The Metroidvania: Dead Cellshttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/eGoMhCCyBczXseTfo42Uch.jpg Image credit: Motion Twin Dead Cells came out last year to widespread critical acclaim - and probably resulted in some broken controllers. It’s a side-on action-platformer game where you get new abilities and unlock new areas as a result of progressing: aka a Metroidvania. You also go back to the beginning when you die, which makes it a roguelike. The two terms are naturally at odds with each other, due to the former requiring permanent progression and the latter denying it. Nevertheless, Dead Cells balances both perfectly, like balancing a bottle of nitroglycerin on the end of a sword. The combat in this game is balletic. You flow around levels constantly attacking and double-jumping like a pointy spinning-top (or a Beyblade, for you geeks). You can clamber up walls, grow vines, set traps, and set everything on fire. You upgrade your character over the course of each run and then have it taken away from you when you die, or when you succeed. In the unlikely event that you make it past the final boss, the game restarts. This time though, you have a boss cell activated that changes the enemies in each level, removes some healing opportunities, and generally turns things up a notch. You can do this several times. The final difficulty gives you three healing chances to last an entire run. Apparently, this is still achievable... The Turn-Based Strategy: Into the Breachhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bsnj5JR8Eo5u3Wn2GpAdVA.jpg Image credit: Subset Games Into the Breach is such an intensely compelling and enjoyable experience that you often won’t even realize you’ve failed before you’ve started your next run. The turn-based strategy title shows you every move your enemy is going to make and asks you to react perfectly in order to protect the timeline from alien interference. In order to succeed you need to look past your immediate options, if you can’t think at least three turns ahead then you are doomed to failure. Failure means permadeath, in this case that means teleporting to another timeline and abandoning all but one of your mech pilots - essentially making you start from scratch. The brilliance of Into the Breach lies in the fact that you are always responsible for your failure and you’re forced to live with it - there are no redos. In other games, it is easy to blame an unfair AI or attack however, in Into the Breach , you can see what is going to happen, so it is your fault if you make a bad move. It’s like playing chess with the ability to see the future; if you still mess it up then it is on you, not the game. You unlock new mechs as you go and can even mix-and-match them to build your own perfect squad - just try not to lose them. If the threat of losing your squad isn’t enough to get the blood pumping then add a soundtrack comparably to audio ecstasy for extra measure. The Multi-Player Dungeon Crawler: Crawl http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/sbjLsRdPvZPbhy3efwGVpS.jpg Image credit: Powerhoof Crawl is a Lovecraftian local multiplayer dungeon crawler which sees you descend into a pixel art dungeon - hoping not to descend into madness. You will probably die, but that is not the end of you. You see, there are up to four adventurers (controlled by you and your friends) all aiming to make it to the end of the dungeon- but only one can. Queue the literal backstabbing and murder. Whichever of your friends is lucky enough to kill you comes back to life, while the other adventurers exist as vengeful spirits intent on killing the fortunate survivor. These spirits can possess traps and furniture, and summon monsters in special areas that can be used to attack the living. These monsters gain levels and evolve depending on how strong the adventurer is. The stronger the living becomes, the stronger the dead are. It keeps things in balance. The aim is to be the living adventurer to first slay a boss. Then you get to start it all over again. While the vast majority of roguelikes are single-player and frustrating affairs, Crawl turns this on its head. Instead, you and three friends can take turns stabbing each other in the back, all to try and be the one who succeeds. It is well-balanced as no matter how strong the hero becomes; the monsters just get fiercer. The more you play the game the more content you unlock. You gain access to new old ones to worship, new items, and deadlier traps. The frenetic rush to be the spirit to deal the killing blow to the adventurer is wonderful, and one that is repeated throughout each game. Why not share the joy of dying a lot with your closest friends? The Card Game: Slay the Spirehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/VBDAWM7ScKSmMkABTPd2uZ.jpg Image credit: Mega Crit Games Despite only releasing in January 2019, Slay the Spire has cemented its place in the roguelike genre. On paper, it’s a deck-building card-battling turn-based dungeon crawler, but you have to assume it was created by feeding two genres into a randomizer and just going with the results (in the best possible way). Your role is to make it to the top of the titular spire. To do this, you journey through different levels, battling various monsters along the way. As you progress, you get new cards to add to your deck and maybe even some fancy equipment. Seems simple, right? Where Slay the Spire excels is in the subtle decisions you have to make. Adding a new card to your deck should be a good thing. The trouble is, doing so lowers the chances of drawing something else. Whenever a new card is offered, you have to figure out if it is worth taking. Do you take the card that is good on its own or do you take the combo card? The good one is good no matter what other cards you have, but the combo card could be instantly lethal if you get the other bits - which is more valuable. Failure means starting again of course, but this time you’ll know more about deck composition and strategy. It really is unique amongst roguelikes. 8. Welcome to our list of the best remote desktop software in 2019. Remote desktop software allows you to access one PC from another, even if the PCs are not in the same building – or even country! There are a number of business uses for remote desktop software. For example, you could use a PC in one office to access a PC in another one, to grab important files. You could also use a powerful remote PC to handle complex tasks while showing the results on a lower-powered laptop. The best remote desktop software is also useful for IT admins, who can remotely take control of a PC to help identify and fix any problems. The best remote desktop software is installed on the remote computer (the host) as well as on any other computer you want to use to access the host computer (known as the client). While certain versions of Windows have their own built-in Remote Desktop software, there are a number of alternatives that do a better job and offer more features. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/XpjytZKadYHuY5Kqsnopd7.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/e92iJZb9mrHdq3ecVrmJZH.jpg Image credit: TeamViewer TeamViewer 14 is perhaps the best-known remote desktop software in the world, and for good reason, as it has support for a huge amount of platforms that allows you to remotely access a PC using a number of devices. Most recently, TeamViewer has added support for Samsung's DeX technology, which means you can use Samsung's smartphones like the Galaxy Note 9 to remotely access your PC. Best of all, there's a free version for home users, which lets you test out the software before you commit. It supports 4K desktops, includes a VPN alternative and easy file sharing. It allows you to connect up to 10 computers, and comes with a number of features that you'd expect to find in paid-for remote desktop software. Remote Utilities comes in two parts; the Host software, which is installed on the PC you want to control, and the Viewer software, which you install on the computer you want to use to control the remote PC. You can also run the Viewer software without installing it, and there's an iOS and Android version of the app for viewing the PC on a mobile device. The downside is that it only works on Windows PCs, so if you use a Mac, you're out of luck. Because it's mainly aimed at enterprise users, it comes with a suite of useful tools that can help you manage the application across a large number of users and devices. It also means that this is an expensive package, so it won't be for everyone. There's some nice added bonuses though, such as 1TB of cloud storage and LastPass Premium subscriptions thrown in. It can be quickly installed as an extension for the Chrome web browser. Users can create a PIN to allow other PCs to log in, though you will need a Google account. It's very easy to use, and best of all it's free, so you can give it a try to see if it's right for you. Best phone 2019http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/szFnGQYKh29LzA6raTEJ4B.jpg TechRadar Senior Editor, Mobile and Buying Guides Matt Swider thinks the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is the best phone on the market for a number of reasons, but the write-home-to-mother feature has to be the low-light camera. Samsung is making a big deal about the camera on the S9 range and for good reason, on the back of the S9 Plus are dual 12MP cameras, both with an impressive f/1.5 maximum aperture. At the time of writing the S9 range is the only phone with a camera aperture this wide, making its low-light prowess second-to-none. Add on top of that the 'infinity' screen that the Samsung Galaxy range is now famous for, and this big-screened beauty comfortably takes the top spot. We thought the AR Emoji feature was overrated, but if you're in the market for the best screen and best camera on a phone, this is the handset for you. (If you're keen to wait for something newer, though, you might want to check out its incoming successor, the Samsung Galaxy S10 .) While Huawei hasn't been making laptops for as long as more established manufacturers in this list, it has absolutely knocked it out the park with the MateBook X Pro. This is a gorgeously-designed laptop with a stunning screen (albeit with a rather odd aspect ratio), and it comes packed with cutting edge components that allows it to perform brilliantly, and a battery life that runs rings around many of its rivals. It also has a very competitive price, giving you features, design and performance for quite a bit less money. Read the full review: Huawei MateBook X Pro Want to see the best of the rest? It didn't surprise us in the least, then, to discover Samsung threw the kitchen sink in with its new Q9FN QLED Series of TVs. As well as being even brighter and more colorful than last year’s equivalent model, Samsung's 2018 flagship screens use a completely different lighting system to combat its predecessor’s contrast problems: Full Array Local Dimming rather than edge-lit LED lighting. The FALD panel works in tandem with Samsung QLED Quantum Dots to produce a picture that's brighter and more colorful than near any we've seen come from the South Korean manufacturer. Do those features alone make Samsung Q9FN the best TV on the market? No, but throw in technology like HDR10+ and Q HDR EliteMax – what Samsung bills as its maximum High Dynamic Range experience that’s exclusive to the Q9FN – and there's very little doubt in our mind that this is Samsung's best TV ever. (Even if it may have competition in Samsung's 2019 TV range.) Read the full review: Samsung Q9FN QLED TV (65Q9FN) Want to see the best of the rest? An improvement on the already very strong PS4, the PS4 Pro supports 4K and HDR technologies; plus with advances in frame rate due to beefed-up processing speeds, gaming will look cleaner, crisper and smoother. The only thing stopping the PS4 Pro from being the ultimate console is the omission of an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive. Instead you'll have to rely on streaming to get your 4K media fix – or, if you're using Sony's PS Now service, the new download feature to play rented games without your patchy connection dropping the resolution. Until we get a firm release date for the PS5, this the way to go. Read the full review: PS4 Pro Want to see exactly how it stacks up against the Xbox One S? A full-frame mirrorless, it ticks all the boxes for features, performance, and price, with a 24.5MP sensor that offers superb color reproduction and pin-sharp detailing. For the wobbly-handed there's a 273-point autofocus system, alongside a 12fps burst-shooting mode for capturing every moment of a fast-moving scene. Along with these smart touches, it's an ergonomic body, easy in the hand with sensibly-placed controls and a massive, bright EVF. If you're already on the Nikon train, you'll be pleased to hear that a simple FZT adapter will let all your existing F mount lenses work just fine. It's a superb two-in-one when paired with its folio keyboard case, and a lovely large touchscreen tablet when flying solo. Many of the grumbles from earlier iPad Pro tablets have been ironed out. The Apple Pencil finally connects to the tablet magnetically, the speakers now have the oomph to match the larger real estate, and the screen-to-body ratio has been improved to a point where it's hard to see where Apple can go from here. Is it a true laptop replacement? That's still a tough question, and one worth considering before purchase – the iOS 12 software feels limiting when trying to multitask and perform laptop-like tasks. Another strictly mobile challenge: it doesn't have a headphone jack. If you want the standard 3.5mm jack in a computer-like device, you'll spring for an actual computer. Those points taken into account, it's a real winner. Just don't go in expecting an actual replacement for your MacBook Pro and you'll come away a happy techhead. Having played around with the larger 46mm version of the Galaxy Watch, you're looking at a rock-soild four day battery life for the wearable – an incredible feat considering most usually conk out after just a single day's use. Tizen is an increasingly capable wearable OS, and the rotating bezel used here to navigate works like a charm. The one drawback remains Tizen's app availability, which pales in comparison to Watch OS and Wear OS. That said, there's a lot of filler on those two platforms, and Samsung's core offering hits all the right notes for what you'd like to get from a smartwatch. The controls are intuitive to use, the resolution is incredible, with a 1080p screen per eye, and the base stations mean you can play in a space that's 13 x 13 feet in size – that's some serious playing space to swing yourself around in. HTC's close rival Oculus still has designs on the crown, and the incoming Oculus Quest – a wireless VR headset with PC-quality performance, reportedly – could well swing the balance. Like most of the entries on our list this is a premium product at a high price, but for now if you're looking for the best first-generation VR headset around, then the HTC Vive is the one to go for. Despite being a new model for 2018, the Sony WH-1000XM3 are the best noise-cancelling headphones in the world two years in a row. How can that be possible? That's because, even though there's new audio wizardry going on, they are for the most part a small refinement of last year's excellent WH-1000XM2. So what's changed? the WH-1000XM3 uses the newer USB-C charging standard instead of a legacy microUSB connection, and there is also a bit more padding along the bridge to keep your noggin' comfy. But that's about it. At first, that lack of substantial improvement gave us some reservations about recommending them - especially when the 1000XM2 could be found for less online. But those days are over. If you want a critically-acclaimed noise-cancelling headset that's brand-new for 2018 and has two-plus years of experience being the best, the WH-1000XM3 are the way to go. 10. In July 2001, the Code Red worm infected over 359,000 hosts which were running a vulnerable implementation of Windows NT. Visitors to compromised websites were greeted with the message: "HELLO! Welcome to http://www.worm.com! Hacked By Chinese!" Code Red and the phrase "Hacked by Chinese!" have long since passed into internet legend but the danger of website defacement is clear and present. Hackers can target your site at any time, so unless you are viewing a page as its been changed, it's hard to respond quickly. In this guide, you'll discover an elegant solution to the issue of website defacement in the form of the very best security tools on the web today. These automate the task of regularly checking your domains for anomalies and make sure to notify you if any unauthorised changes are detected. There are options to match all budgets from free services suitable for the occasional blogger to premium platforms for large business owners. We've also highlighted the best website hosting services http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/RdzJ87vUhcweEhq7sZy2UN.jpg Visualping Visualping is a deceptively simple tool which offers powerful protection against website defacement. Users of the website or iOS/Android mobile apps need only enter a URL and their email address to receive regular updates of any changes made. The tool works by making regular snapshots of the page in question then comparing these on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. It can also be customized to trigger an alert for tiny, medium or significant changes. Visualping is not designed specifically for website defacement. As the developers' website mentions, it will work equally well for checking on the release on concert tickets or a new product launch. However its ability to display superposed 'images' as well as the fact you can control the frequency Visualping checks for changes means it's certainly fit for purpose. The basic free version of Visualping allows you up to 2 free checks per day. Costs vary after this on a very reasonable sliding scale depending on the number of checks required. For instance, to have Visualping check your site 40 times a day (every 36 minutes) would cost just $13 (£9.72) a month. If you need to monitor multiple domains consider installing the Visualping Chrome web extension. Once installed just click the Visualping button to start monitoring the current page. Through to its name Visualping may not be able to detect invisible to changes to pages such as modifications of source code. If malware is a concern consider one of the other tools in this guide. You can sign up for Visualping herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/HhyKjeRRaHGrEuav8tUbU5.jpg StatusCake StatusCake is a many-layered treat for webmasters. This British-based site offers a way to check your pages for defacement and downtime from a variety of locations: the project maintains 48 monitoring centers in 28 countries around the world. Many centers support the more recent IPv6 protocol. This offers subscribers a much more refined experience over simpler competitors. Not only can you adjust the frequency of checks but you can also specify the location from which you want to monitor pages. StatusCake even offers a speed test to show how quickly a page loads when checked. There is a free package which can perform up to 10 checks at 5-minute intervals. This is fine for hobby bloggers and those with very monolithic websites but business owners can benefit more from a paid subscription. These are very competitively priced compared to other monitoring services. StatusCake's 'superior' subscription, for instance, costs only $24.49 (£18.50) a month and performs up to 100 checks at 1-minute intervals. At the time of writing, there was a discount, with the price being $20.41 per month. Regardless of which package you choose, StatusCake includes multiple notification options including email, text message and even push notifications via Android/iOS. This service also works with some party apps such as PagerDuty. You can sign up for StatusCake herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/eXUb5UfEgAcXVUiaVhVYZN.jpg Sucuri Sucuri began in 2010 under the guiding hand of developer Daniel Cid who envisioned a tool which could give webmasters better insight into the security status of their websites. It's safe to say that Mr. Cid has been successful. The cloud-based SaaS (Software as a Service) Sucuri works not only as a monitoring platform but contains many tools to help prevent malicious attacks by hackers such as a Firewall, anti-virus and DDoS protection. This may be why Sucuri was acquired by legendary hosting provider GoDaddy in March 2018. The Sucuri Website Firewall can handle malware prevention through use of a dedicated whitelist, so that only authorised parties can connect to your site. Sucuri also regularly monitors changes to your pages and can display appropriate warnings. Furthermore, there is a free website malware and security scanner that you can use at sitecheck.sucuri.net. The service also maintains a dedicated incident response team, who work 365 days a year to assist you with restoring your site if anything goes wrong. Subscribers to the 'basic' Sucuri package for $199 (£149.46) per year are guaranteed a response within 12 hours to all support requests of this kind. The basic tier also includes features such as the firewall (with support for whitelists and blacklists), continuous scanning for defacement and malware cleanup. Sadly, there is no free trial for Sucuri, however the main site offers a money back guarantee within 30 days if users aren't satisfied. You can sign up for Sucuri herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/6y54b3dos7Sc3XkYtzm6Uh.jpg OnWebChange OnWebChange is one of the most versatile and useful tools when it comes to defacement protection. Since it was originally developed by Briton Tom Carnell in 2009 the service has exploded and can boast tens of thousands of users. This is due in part to the sophisticated monitoring features. In the first instance, users can select one or more areas to monitor within a web page. This is ideal if you maintain pages with dynamic content. OnWebChange will notify you each time a change takes place, either via email or via push notifications in Android/iOS. Power Users can also use a HTTP CallBacks with their own login data to adjust website content automatically e.g. to restore a defaced page. The generous free tier offers subscribers advanced CSS (Page Content Selection) as well as the ability to scan both PDF and plain text files for changes. Free tier users are permitted a maximum of 3 tracked sites a month. Checks are made up to 30 times (roughly once a day). Premium subscribers such as those who opt for the 'Solo' package for $1.40 (£1.05) a month, benefit from advanced features such as unlimited trackers and checks every 30 minutes. You can sign up for OnWebChange herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/sGnppTd7CYscGYW6YEtXu9.jpg IPVTec IPVTec was created in 2014 under the supervision of a founding member of cybersecurity firm IPVSecurity who was unhappy with the monitoring solutions available to clients at the time. Like Sucuri, the monitoring toll IPVmon is cloud-based meaning setup is minimal and you can start monitoring no matter how small the resources of your own network. The monitor routinely checks for website defacement but also contains a number of other handy features such as verifying your SSL certificates are in date, detecting if pages are unreachable, as well as scanning for malware. Emphasis has been placed on pro-active searches for anomalies to prevent problems before they occur. This includes actively scanning for domain hijacking and DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks as well as defacement. If any irregularities are detected, users are notified with details via text message and email. Messages include a recommended 'call to action' to remedy the issues. IPVTec also has a dedicated dashboard for viewing notifications. Sadly there is no free version but the IPVTec website offers subscribers a free 30 day trial to accustom themselves to the platforms features. The basic (Pro 5) package costs $24 (£17.94) a month ($19 a month annually) and permits monitoring of 5 pages and a single domain. 11. Foldable, 5G and phones that can unlock using your veins - MWC 2019 has been a show full of innovation, whether it's good or bad. We've been front and center at all the big press conferences, pushing our way through the crowds to try out the gadgets and exploring the show to ensure we've told you about everything that matters. Now we've put together our collective heads to vote for our TechRadar MWC 2019 Awards where we congratulate the manufacturers of the most exciting gadgets and innovations we've seen unveiled at the show. From our brief time with these products, we can safely say they are the most exciting devices at arguably the most important show at setting the mobile agenda for the rest of 2019. The award winnersBelow you'll find our top six awards we've given out to manufacturers at the show, with each winner a worthy recipient that showcases the very best, and most innovative, tech at MWC 2019. Think again – the Huawei Mate X is our favorite gadget we've seen at MWC 2019, and it looks like it could be a gamechanger. Sure, it's set to be very expensive, but you'll always have to pay lots to be one of the first to try innovations of this level. When unfolded, the Huawei Mate X offers an 8-inch display with a resolution of 2200 x 2480 pixels. It features the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with 8GB of RAM, and the 64GB version is set to only cost €449 (about $500, £390, AU$715) SIM free. It's unlikely you'll see the Xiaomi Mi 9 hogging any headlines, but with a 6.4-inch Full HD display and a powerful triple rear camera with one of the most impressive megapixel counts we've seen on any phone, you're sure to consider the Mi 9 great value. Nokia has taken it three steps further and placed five shooters on the back of the Nokia 9 PureView. The rear of the phone may look like something from War of the Worlds, but our early thoughts on the photo quality have been positive. There's two color lenses paired with three monochrome ones, and each sport spec of 12MP, f1.8 aperture and the benefits of Zeiss optics. Sony wants you to go for its upcoming Sony Xperia 1, which may feature one of the best displays we've ever seen on a smartphone. It's a 4K HDR OLED panel – a first for any phone – and it comes in a 21:9 aspect ratio, which makes the phone taller than others on the market. The idea here is that'll be a better aspect ratio when you're watching films in landscape. Not everything will appear in that ratio on your phone, but if you watch a lot of movies on Netflix it may be perfect for you. 12. We were pretty hard on the Royole FlexPai when we tried it at CES this year because it was, well, pretty terrible. While it was a cool concept, and our first time getting our hands on a flexible phone, the experience just didn't match up. You can see here just how bad things were back in January in the video below. On opening up the phone, it would just stare at us before remembering that it was supposed to alter the user interface to jump into tablet mode. Fast forward just 50 days, and we're in a very different flexible world. The Huawei Mate X exists. The Samsung Galaxy Fold has been unveiled. The world seems to have forgotten about the Royole FlexPai... but should it have? We went back in and got hands-on with the device, seeing if the software had improved – and the good news is that it has. The chap demonstrating the phone to us had been using the phone himself for a month, and claimed that things were a lot smoother. In our brief time flicking through the interface, they really were. We're not saying that things are completely fixed – there's some very obvious lag in the phone when switching between the front and back screens, for instance – but overall, the experience was far, far faster. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/7mkamd6jMAtKtovFmQCMYU.gif The unfurling seems a lot quicker Fewer of them BenjaminsRemember those two phones we mentioned at the start there? The Huawei Mate X costs €2,299, which converts to about $2,600, £2,000, AU$4,770 with 512GB of internal storage. The Samsung Galaxy Fold comes in at $1,980 (around £1,500 / AU$2,800), so neither are cost-effective. The once-expensive sounding price tag of €1,539.00 of the FlexPai (which converts to around $1,700 / £1,300 / AU$2,400) suddenly doesn't seem quite as eye-watering, and you're getting a flexible phone with 256GB of internal storage. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/FhS8ztLaZyAn6sYxjmV2b.jpg Let's not get ahead of ourselves here: the FlexPai still has a rounded, wedge shape (which Royole says protects it for almost twice as many unfolds as the Mate X, in fairness) and doesn't quite lay flat when unfurled), and there are some slight aberrations in the screen which means the display isn't as smooth as its competitors. But if your goal is to just own a flexible phone, Royole isn't giving up on the FlexPai and is still improving the software... so maybe it's worth a second look. Fresh statistics suggest that the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update is gathering pace, and it has finally passed the 20% mark, although that still leaves it in a clear minority compared to the April 2018 Update. The figures for February (or most of the month) from AdDuplex show that the October 2018 Update is installed on 21.2% of Windows 10 PCs worldwide. Although note that this is PCs which run the firm’s adverts (via Microsoft Store apps) which is where the statistics are drawn from (with over 100,000 computers analyzed). That’s a sizeable jump from the previous stats for January, which indicated that the October 2018 Update was on 12.4% of machines. The month before that – December 2018 – the figure was 6.6%, so we can see that the numbers are roughly doubling with every month. Check out our fully updated Windows 10 reviewHere’s how to fix any October 2018 Update problemsAnd here’s what’s coming with the Windows 10 April 2019 UpdateStill, the rollout of the October 2018 Update remains painfully slow, and the April 2018 Update is present on the vast majority (71.6%) of Windows 10 PCs out there, at least going by AdDuplex’s stats (which obviously present a fairly limited viewpoint on the different versions of Windows 10 installed on computers out there). April showers, October drizzlesWhat we really have to remember here is that when AdDuplex charted the progress of the April 2018 Update, in just a month after release it had reached 50% of Windows 10 PCs. So that gives you some idea of just how badly Microsoft’s latest rollout has faltered. There are numerous reasons why the October 2018 Update has been such a slow process, not the least of which are the many problems which plagued it post-launch, and the fact that Microsoft was forced to pause the rollout for over a month when some truly worrying bugs were found (including one that deleted user data). Even when the rollout resumed after that, further issues were encountered, and Microsoft has been pretty cautious in pushing the update overall. Indeed, it was only a month ago that the software giant reopened the ‘phased rollout’ floodgates to automatically push the update to Windows 10 PCs. We can presumably expect a big increase this coming month, certainly given that the next update – the Windows 10 April 2019 Update, as it will likely be imaginatively named – is now on the horizon. Although there is the possibility that some machines may simply end up skipping straight from the April 2018 Update to the April 2019 Update. 14. In the middle ages, the Knights Templar established the key processes for the modern system of notary services, banking, loans, and mortgages that we have today. During that era, Knights carried with them documentation that proved their identity, created by a notary, often embossed with official wax seals. The importance of these documents was enhanced by a Papal declaration in 1139 that allowed the Knights Templar to pass freely through any border, pay no taxes, and be granted total freedom from every authority other than the Vatican. Without the documents created by a notary, anyone could impersonate a Knight, and avoid the laws that applied to ordinary citizens throughout the rest of Europe. And when it comes to the worldwide web today, we can draw a parallel with a similar document of authority: the SSL certificate. SSL Certification (or TLS to be more accurate) is a means to verify the source of web pages, domains, and open the door to information exchanges and electronic financial transactions. But how do you pick a good SSL provider? Simple – read on and find out. First of all, we’ve got a list of 10 of our favored SSL certificate providers, although everyone’s needs vary, so following our list, we will engage in an in-depth discussion of all the criteria you should consider when picking the right company for you. We’ve also rounded up the best overall website hosting servicesBelow are the best SSL certificate providers of 2019 : http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DcvdGeSqTdLwKcGJ7Pc4kj.jpg Comodo SSL As a highly affordable provider of SSL services, Comodo SSL has made some significant headway in the past few years. Much of that success has been the result of very aggressive pricing, with a DV level ‘Positive SSL’ Certification costing just $7.27 (£5.5) currently for four-year coverage. A ‘Premium’ SSL solution only costs $56.06 (£42.4) for four years. That package includes a fully validated certificate, 256-bit encryption and a $250,000 (£189,000) relying party warranty. But be warned, validation can take some time if the information required for Comodo SSL to complete the checking process isn’t available online. On the plus side, the company has excellent support people should you have installation or browser issues. ___________________________________________________________________________________ http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/M4c5gw3PLdAqH3BmcsjXdL.jpg DigiCert Having operated independently for some years, in 2017, DigiCert has completed an acquisition of Symantec’s website security and related PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) solutions. The motivation for this buyout was that Symantec managed to convince 90% of Fortune 500 companies to pay for the Norton Secured Seal. These are now DigiCert’s customers, and the company has implemented a plan to transition those using Symantec products on to DigiCert when appropriate. The starting price for an SSL Certificate is $198 (£150) per year, although you might be able to better that with a two-year deal. A wildcard option, covering unlimited servers and a complete multi-level domain, is $658 (£499) – an enticing prospect. Entrust was built around a wide selection of security products: ID card printers, authentication systems, credit card printers and a PKI are all among its product lines. With so much invested in secure systems, SSL certificates are considered one of its strongest offerings. Customers especially like the ability to manage numerous certificates across multiple domains from a management console. Prices start at $174 (£130) per year for its Standard SSL single site product, climbing to $609 (£450) for a Wildcard SSL covering unlimited servers and subdomains. From what we’ve seen, most customers seem delighted with the service at all levels, seemingly justifying the extra cost over cheaper options. The business covers three main areas: SSL certificates, Signing Services and SSL for enterprise services. Those looking for SSL certification will find that GeoTrust offers a comprehensive selection starting with domain-level and progressing up to its True BusinessID with EV level certification. Pricing is more competitive at the higher end, so those wanting a single site certificate might want to avoid GeoTrust, but those needing EV or OV level products should take a look. Enterprise solutions specifically tailored to government organizations, healthcare businesses and financial institutions are part of the GeoTrust range. Be prepared for identity checks to take longer than others, but the thoroughness of these checks has enhanced GeoTrust’s status. By taking this route, an enterprise customer can have all the rules, policies, and procedures for using SSL certificates, and their subsequent creation, distribution and revocation are all handled for them. But if you only want SSL certificates, GlobalSign can do that too. Having the level of support and organization that GlobalSign delivers doesn’t come cheap, and even for a single site with only DV level certification, prices start at $249 (£189). For those wanting the full EV certification, expect to pay $599 (£455) per year for a single site. Sign up for GlobalSign SSL certificationhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/h8GQPNaTEGTu3NE2kgfKtA.jpg GoDaddy GoDaddy might be better known for its web hosting plans, but it’s also a big provider of SSL services. Instead of offering DV, OV and EV certification at different prices, they all cost the same relatively low price. The pricing structure is instead based on a single site, multiple sites, or a domain with full subdomain cover. Currently a single site, (DV, OV or EV level) costs $59.99 (£45) per year, and the all level domain solution is only $279.99 (£212.5) per year. The return on that investment is the best SHA2 and 2048-bit encryption, and the trust seal provided by McAfee Secure. One quirk of GoDaddy’s offering is that while the fresh installation is relatively cheap, renewal can be more expensive. If you can be organized enough to do fresh installs each year, you can save yourself a little money over simply renewing. Sign up for GoDaddy SSL certificationhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/mfb8HHmVsZPxK9JRjgPqPW.jpg Network Solutions In some respects Network Solutions is a little like GoDaddy, in that they both offer a wide range of web-related services, like domain names and e-commerce solutions, and SSL certification isn’t their sole focus. What might attract customers is this firm’s pricing, with a base cost that starts at $59.99 (£45.5) with a 2-year term for a single site, rising to $579 (£439.4) for an EV level certificate that should be issued within five working days. The weakness of this offering would seem to be the support team, which has been described in less than glowing terms by some customers. So given that, if you understand the details of installing certificates, then this might be for you, but anyone wanting extensive technical support may want to look elsewhere. Sign up for Network Solutions SSL certificationhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/rPZTbqNUPD59iuMtufJSU5.jpg RapidSSL RapidSSL is owned by GeoTrust, another SSL provider we’ve already mentioned in this list. The business logic behind this is that whereas GeoTrust focuses on corporate giants, RapidSSL targets smaller businesses that are more cost-sensitive. For just $17.95 (£13.6) per year, RapidSSL will provide a single domain certificate with 128/256-bit encryption with a browser recognition that exceeds 99%. A wildcard certificate that covers unlimited subdomains is $149 (£113) per year, plus it includes a $10,000 (£7,500) warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Free support is provided 24/7 by web and email, and installation tools are part of the package at no extra cost. And, even at this low price, the service is built on the same GeoTrust global infrastructure as the corporate customers benefit from. Sign up for RapidSSL certificationhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GxxpEHDdoppkoAKXxmkkaQ.jpg SSL.com If the most important metric of this sector is customer approval, then SSL.com is delivering the type of SSL service that wins friends and returning customers. Part of that equation is strong customer services and support teams, and the other element is competitive pricing which values those willing to commit for longer periods than a year. A single domain level certificate starts at $49 (£36) per year but can be as low as $36.75 (£28) per annum if bought for five years. If you’re a smaller business looking for certification, SSL.com might be a good place to start. So far it has issued nearly a billion certificates in 240 countries worldwide. What’s helped the firm establish this position is the strength of its offerings, and selling points include impressive browser compatibility, excellent certificate management tools, and up to 256-bit encryption. For those who need EV level certification, the price is $299, and that comes with a promise to complete the background checks in one to three days maximum. The success that Thawte has had seems well grounded in a strong combination of customer satisfaction and affordable pricing. Sign up for Thawte SSL certificationhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/684e36528eca45e1971880b3630342db.jpg Understanding SSLThe mechanism of SSL certification has two important functions: authentication and encryption. As a means to authorize a connection, the SSL certificate holds information about the business, website or person you are connecting to, and is also a means to verify that identity through a third-party. If you wish to see this in action, look at the URL of this web page in the address bar of your browser, and alongside the text, just on the left, you should see a small green padlock that identifies that this is a secure SSL-certificated site. Clicking on the padlock will tell you that the connection is secure and allow you to reveal what information the certificate has. That will include the users of the certificate, and the SSL provider that bestowed authorization. In addition to authority and verification, the SSL certificate also includes a means to encrypt traffic between the user’s computer and the website. Without this encryption, sensitive information like passwords could potentially be compromised by a nefarious party intercepting the data traffic flowing between the client computer and the web server. The security of this system is underpinned by another independent third-party, the trusted Certificate Authority (CA), which issues the SSL certificate under strict guidelines. Very much mirroring the phrase ‘my word is my bond’, the support of a CA with an SSL certificate is a declaration of trust in a person, company or website. And the CA is in turn verified by a Root certificate holder, proving that they are trusted to issue certificates and revoke them where necessary. Should these trusted relationships fail, the SSL certificates become invalid. In that case, anyone visiting a location covered by one such certificate would immediately be warned that it has no valid SSL certificate, and that their connection may no longer be secure. As you can imagine, the impact that a revoked certificate would have on a live business would be very serious. So it’s vital that you get your SSL certificate from the right source, backed by the most respected CA. Having inherent trust where identity is concerned is necessary, but having the right level of certification for the business is also very important. Special relationshipsWhen people talk about SSL certificates, it is easy to assume that they’re all the same. But depending on who authorized them and how diligent the background checks were, they come with different levels of validation. Here are the four levels of validation most commonly used: Self-signed. At first glance, the idea of self-signed certificates seems mildly ridiculous, because looking in the mirror and confirming that the reflection is indeed you won’t work at passport control. However, if the purpose of these certificates is to control traffic on an internal corporate intranet, it works well enough, and avoids the browser repeatedly complaining about unsecured web locations.Domain Validation (DV). The next rung up is the Domain Validated SSL certificate, which is purely a confirmation that the web pages are truly coming from the expected domain and not some other. It says nothing about the person or business in question, just that they own a domain.Organization Validated (OV). The highest level of validation that an individual can aspire to, and high enough for many businesses. Company credentials and those of the named owners are checked against extensive databases, including those held by local governments.Extended Validation (EV). The pinnacle of SSL issuance is the fully authenticated SSL certificate, needed for any company that wants to offer their customers secure web locations, email and financial transactions. While self-signed and domain level certificates have their uses, it’s the OV and EV levels that businesses truly need. Because they prove that a company has domain ownership, a genuine business, and that the certificate was applied for by authorized personnel. As it’s reasonable to expect, checks of this type take time. Therefore, applying for and being granted an authenticated SSL certificate is not something that can happen five minutes before a new web venture is about to go live. The other element that separates one SSL certificate from another is the level of encryption that it applies, and exactly how secure that makes it. EncryptionThe model for SSL certificates allows for them to use 128 or 256-bit encryption, should the client’s browser support it. Calculations show that it would take a supercomputer 13.75 billion years to test every permutation of a 128-bit encrypted code. And, for good measure, the initial handshake is performed using an ultra-secure 2048-bit RSA key. Once past that awkward first date, SSL communication is usually continued with 128, 192 or 256-bit, as without quantum computers these are practically uncrackable, and they put less stress on the computers encrypting and decrypting at either end. Most providers are offering 256-bit encryption these days, but that’s only valid when the web server, client computer operating system and browser can all operate at that encryption level. Old operating systems and browsers can force encryption levels to 40 or 56-bit, even if the certificate they’re accessing is capable of 256-bit. While you can’t entirely control the client end, the minimum requirement for encryption should be 256-bit at the server end, period. What makes a good SSL purchase? There is a temptation to make choices entirely based on cost, especially if you have lots of sites to cover or a dynamic business environment. Poor decisions can have big cost implications, and changing direction once you have a consumer-facing solution isn’t ideal. The following factors should play a part in picking the right issuance operation for you: Period of trial - Before anything goes live you’ll want to test it, yes?Browser compatibility - With so many computers still running Windows 7 and even older releases, working with older browsers is still a major concern.Issuance timeframe - When deadlines are in play, time can be critical should a new certificate suddenly be neededTrust level type - The trick is to match the needs of the web location with the level of security and trust needed. If you don’t do financial transactions, then EV level security probably isn’t required. Not all firms offer OV level certificates and some companies try to charge for self-signed, amazingly.Trust site seal - Providing a recognizable seal that the public can see is an easy way to let your customers know that a site is secure and that their information is safe.Support of SSL experts - The subtle nuances of SSL and certification can befuddle even the most astute IT people, so having an SSL support team available is critical.Refund policy - Entering a business relationship assuming it will go sideways isn’t a particularly positive viewpoint, but knowing that your money will come back if needed is a sensible precaution.Warranty policy - Some CAs cover errors in identification, loss of documents or intentional/accidental errors. These warranties might have implications for those companies that self-insure.You might also want to check out our hosting guides: Best WordPress hosting providers Best cloud hosting providersBest Linux web hosting servicesBest e-commerce hostingBest dedicated server hostingBest small business web hostingBest Windows hosting servicesBest managed web hostingBest green web hostingBest colocation hostingBest email hosting providersBest web hosting resellersBest VPS hosting providersBest shared web hostingBest cheap web hostingCheck out the best website hosting serviceshttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/5wyp1RJfORA

We also believe that there will be a virtuous circle of investment as networks are upgraded to meet the demands of 5G and Nokia has the right portfolio at the right time to meet that need. "2019 will be a big year for 5G and Nokia stands ready and able to deliver for customers everywhere. 5G is a truly transformational technology that will improve people's lives, increase productivity and efficiency and enhance the sustainability of our planet." The company is releasing a new all-in-cloud base station that virtualises 4G and 5G network functions in the cloud, enabling edge computing and low latency applications, while it has also upgraded the Nokia Cloud Packet Core. It has also detailed a new 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) gateway and is using the product with Australian telco Optus. 5G FWA is expected to be one of the early use cases for 5G, with Nokia believing the market will increase by 50 percent to 27.5 million households by 2022. Optus is set to launch FWA at 50 sites by March. Nokia is also holding joint trials with Korea Telecom to see how Network Function Virtualisation and network slicing can power new applications and 5G business models, while it is also working with Vodafone on massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (mMIMO). It is thought the use of mMIMO could improve capacity using smaller infrastructure and consuming less power. Finally, Nokia has published the ‘5G Maturity Index’ – a report which details the best practices for 5G deployment and the most popular use cases. 16. The Apple Watch 4 is a capable health and fitness tracker, but one major and surprising omission is sleep tracking, as while you can do this using third-party apps, the feature isn’t offered out of the box. That could finally soon change though. According to “people familiar with the work” speaking to Bloomberg, Apple has been secretly testing a sleep tracking feature for months and plans to add it to the Apple Watch by 2020. It’s not clear whether this would be exclusive to whatever the newest model is (likely the Apple Watch 6), or whether it would be added as a software update. But given that most of the hardware should already be in place (such as a heart rate monitor and accelerometer), it may well be a feature that older Apple Watch models could also get. Read our in-depth Apple Watch 4 reviewGot an Apple Watch? Grab the best Apple Watch appsSee how Apple rates in our best smartwatch guideOf course, the possibility of a sleep tracking feature on any Apple Watch is just a rumor for now, so we’d take it with a side of salt. But it would make sense since it’s an obvious missing feature, the addition of which would help Apple better compete with the likes of Fitbit, which has a sleep tracking feature of its own. This also wouldn’t be the first time Apple has shown interest in tracking sleep, given that the company previously bought Beddit – the maker of a sleep monitor. A battery boost? As Bloomberg notes though, one disadvantage the Apple Watch could have for sleep tracking is that its battery life can’t compete with some fitness trackers, such as the Fitbit Versa, which lasts around 3-4 days between charges. The Apple Watch 4 for comparison will usually want charging nightly, which is inconvenient if you also want to wear it in bed. It’s possible that this is one reason why we haven’t yet seen sleep tracking on the device, and may mean that battery life is something else Apple plans to tackle in the near future, but that’s just speculation for now. Still, if Apple can deliver better battery life and a sleep tracking feature on the Apple Watch 5 or 6, then that could go a long way towards justifying an upgrade from an older model. 17. Just a couple of days before the CP+ trade show in Japan swings open its doors, Sony has confirmed its long-rumored FE 135mm f/1.8 GM lens. The optic is the ninth addition to the G Master lens series, which also includes the FE 24mm f/1.8 GM and FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS. Like those lenses, the new FE 135mm f/1.8 GM lens is targeted at users of the company’s full-frame A7R III and A9 cameras among others, and arrives with some impressive technology to befit its position in the company's lens stable. The new optical design makes use of Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion), regular ED and XA (Extreme Aspherical) elements, and these are said to maintain high corner-to-corner resolution, even when used wide open at f/1.8. This is helped by the use of a floating focus mechanism, which also helps to ensure that control over aberrations is consistent as the focusing distance changes. Focusing itself is powered by four Extreme Dynamic (XD) linear motors, two at the front of the lens and another two at the back. Sony says this provides low-vibration AF control and fast, precise and reliable performance for moving subjects. Focusing is also internal, which means the lens won't alter in length or have its front rotate as it travels through it focusing range. The company has applied a Nano AR coating to the internal elements to suppress ghosting and flare, while an 11-blade diaphragm is said to deliver a circular aperture, something that will no doubt please the portrait and wedding photographers at which the lens is aimed. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/KRmmFYEKsx2vJXwb9yAy3S.jpg Image credit: TechRadar In addition to the deep manual focusing ring towards the front of the lens, the optic has an aperture ring that clicks in 1/3-stop increments, although a switch towards the underside of the lens allows the click to be disabled if required. There's has a three-mode focus range limit switch on hand, as well as two focus hold buttons that can be customized through the host camera's menu system to perform alternative functions. The FE 135mm f/1.8 GM has a hybrid metal and 'engineering plastic' design, with a rigid, lightweight magnesium alloy used for the chassis. Seals around each ring and the various buttons provide dust and weather resistance, something that’s completed with a fluorine coating on the front elements, while a deep, round lens hood, which provides physical protection in addition to its light-shielding advantages, comes with the lens as standard. Counting this new arrival, Sony now has 49 native lenses for its mirrorless system, 31 of which produce an image circle that satisfies the dimensions of full-frame sensors. Further lenses designed for its Alpha DSLRs and SLT cameras can also be used on Alpha mirrorless bodies via an adapter. The lens will be available from April at a price of £1,750 in the UK and $1,900 in the US. We’ll update this story with pricing for Australia once we have it. 18. If you are using Windows 10, you will almost certainly already have a free antivirus courtesy of Microsoft. So why would you need to pay for one when you already have a security solution present? Well, here are some genuinely good reasons why you should opt for a paid antivirus application. No-go for businesses? In general, antivirus companies do not allow the use of free antivirus in a business, allowing only a strict personal, non-commercial home usage. Why? Some would argue that it’s because there is no reason to kill a lucrative market. However, what most companies need to ensure a solid level of protection goes past the ‘mere antivirus’ tool. Layered defense technologies built on top of antivirus engines are a minimum of protection for businesses, and anti-malware vendors would rather not promote their basic technologies as a silver bullet for a company’s cybersecurity challenges. Make sure you read the EULA (End User License Agreement) before completing the installation of any antivirus product, or your company might be in breach of the terms and conditions of use. You simply get far more by payingThe old adage “you get what you pay for” is true for free software and antivirus in particular. Free antivirus provides just that – free protection against viruses and malware, and nothing more. They often use the same core engine as paid-for solutions, but are stripped of any additional but still important features. Pay a bit more and you can get a more complete solution: Bitdefender Total Security 2019, for example, offers ransomware protection, a VPN, a password manager, a firewall, parental controls and a dozen more features, across up to five devices, for as little as 2p per day per device. Paying for something means you can demand a minimum quality of serviceShould you complain about something you received for free? Sure, you can, but chances are that vendors will prioritize problems that come from paid customers. Those customers are likely to get updates and fixes faster than those using the free version. Nevertheless, you can always try the software first – Bitdefender, like others, offers a no-commitment 30-day free trial which can be used to test the security solution. After which you can decide whether or not you want to fork out some money, or not. Remember, the longer your subscription and the more devices you have, the cheaper the cost per device, as a rule of thumb. Safeguarding 10 devices for three years can cost as little as £0.38 a month, with complete anti-malware protection on mobile and fixed devices. You get better management solutionsA chain is no stronger than its weakest link, and this holds true in online security as well. Cybercriminals and hackers can penetrate a network by relentlessly searching for an unprotected device. Securing all your smartphones and other devices can become a management nightmare – especially with free antivirus. That’s why some antivirus companies bundle management features with their paid offering: Bitdefender Central is an example of what a good one-stop security center looks like. It is multi-platform and works just as well from a mobile or from a laptop. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/dPyX3udXkkJudy4WT4z5CU.jpg Image Credit: Bitdefender Go beyond your devicesThere’s a new generation of advanced hardware devices that promise to secure your home even better. The Bitdefender Box 2 is one of them, and secures all devices connected to your wired/wireless network with no limits on what you can download or how many devices are connected. It is compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, and includes free installation and setup. Souped-up hardware and excellent connectivity means the Box 2 could even improve your broadband connection. Such revolutionary features are only available to paid-for users. What about free mobile antivirus? There are more than 250 antivirus apps on Google Play, with most of them being free. Yet the chances are that a lot of those apps don’t provide malware protection out of charity. After all, they need some sort of revenue to grow sustainably, and if they do not offer in-app purchases, it can only mean one thing: You’re the product. Certain categories of free software are genuinely free, like operating systems (Linux) or browsers (Chromium), but others, like antivirus, require maintenance, financial and human investment, and updates to keep up with the competition or the bad guys. Ask yourself: Where do free antivirus firms that don’t offer a paid option get their revenues from? More than half of Bitdefender’s employees are engineers and researchers, with its security solutions used by 500 million users worldwide. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/nke4yn2nyjs
  19. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 needs to pack a punch to get the series back in the limelight. There aren't many Galaxy Note 10 leaks or rumors just yet, but we've put together a list of what we want from Samsung and its next flagship phablet to help propel the handset to the top of the pile. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is packed full of features and tech, yet in a lot of ways it still feels like a small upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Update: A Samsung Galaxy Note 10 leak points to four cameras on the back. Plus, we can look to the Galaxy S10 range for some hints of what to expect. So as much as we love it, we’re hoping for more from the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. We want big, fundamental changes and upgrades that go further towards justifying its inevitably enormous price tag. We’ve listed some of our specific hopes below, but before that you’ll find early rumors and educated guesses at the release date, specs and features of the Galaxy Note 10. Cut to the chaseWhat is it? The next stylus-toting flagship from SamsungWhen is it out? Probably August 2019What will it cost? More than most other phonesSamsung Galaxy Note 10 release date and priceIt’s likely that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 launch date will be some point in August 2019, as in recent years Samsung has announced new Galaxy Note handsets in August. However, the exact point in the month does vary. The Galaxy Note 9 for example was announced on August 9 2018, but the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was announced on August 23 of 2017. And even once the Galaxy Note 10 is announced it will likely be at least a couple of weeks before you can buy it, so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t hit stores until late August or September 2019. As for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 price, the Note 9 starts at $1,000 (£899, AU$1,499) and it gets even more expensive if you want more storage and more RAM. Given that smartphone prices generally seem to be rising we’d expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will cost at least this much. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/KBgqaSeu4NmuwVwKJyBeLE.jpg The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is sure to cost a lot Samsung Galaxy Note 10 news and rumorsSo far one of the few real things we've heard about the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is that it will apparently have a 6.66-inch screen. And we've heard that not once, but twice already! That's up from 6.4 inches on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and while we'd take this with a pinch of salt it's believable, given that phone screens keep getting bigger, and given that the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus is 6.4 inches and we'd expect the next Note to be bigger than anything in the S range. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 could also have a quad-lens camera according to one report. The specs of the lenses aren't known, but it's possible that they would be the same as those on the Galaxy S10 5G, a phone with a 12MP telephoto lens, a 12MP variable aperture one, a 16MP ultra-wide lens, and a 3D depth-sensor. The same report says that the Note 10 has the model number SM-N975F. However Note handsets usually have a '0' as the last number, so there's speculation that this could denote a 5G variant. In more vague news, the Galaxy Note 10 is apparently codenamed 'Da Vinci'. Given that Leonardo da Vinci was a famous painter that could hint at upgrades to the S Pen, though exactly what those upgrades would be is unclear. Leonardo da Vinci was also very talented in lots of other ways though, so this could equally be a suggestion that the Note 10 will be a very versatile phone. Beyond that we can take some educated guesses as to what the Note 10 might offer. For one thing, based on past form it will probably use the same chipset as the Samsung Galaxy S10. That means either a Snapdragon 855 or an Exynos 9820, depending on where you are in the world. They're both top-end though. The Galaxy S10 also has an in-screen fingerprint scanner and a camera cut-out in the screen, rather than a notch or big bezels, so those are likely features of the Note 10. The Note 10 is also almost certainly going to have a curved Super AMOLED screen. You can probably expect water resistance too, given that all recent Samsung flagships have that. And of course, the S Pen will make a return, though quite possibly with some new features and refinements. What we want to seeWhile there’s no Samsung Galaxy Note 10 news just yet, we have a good idea of what we want from it. You’ll find our seven main suggestions below. 1. A customizable Bixby buttonAs much as Samsung might want us to use Bixby in favor of Google Assistant the reality is that for the most part it’s just not as good, and Google has so much of a head start that we doubt it ever will be. That wouldn’t be an issue except that Samsung insists on putting a physical Bixby button on its Note phones, so for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 we either want this to be removed or to be customizable, so you can set it to launch something other than Bixby. The good news is this should happen, because it's a feature that since writing this wish Samsung has started bringing to its phones - maybe the South Korean company really is listening to us. 2. HDR video recordinghttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/yMFxdu8xMTpVV8ewfnARFH.jpg For the Note 10 we hope the camera is capable of HDR video Many high-end handsets can now record HDR video, but the Galaxy Note 9 can’t. It’s a shame, because it’s a noticeably weak point in a camera that’s otherwise great. So we really want to see HDR recording offered by the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. And not just any HDR, but 4K HDR (which is also offered by some rivals), so it can shoot videos that look as good as its photos surely will. 3. An in-screen fingerprint scannerThe Note 9 has a fingerprint scanner on the back, which allows for slim bezels on the front (though still more of a bottom bezel than we’d have hoped to see) but arguably makes it slightly trickier to reach than a front-facing scanner. We also noted in our review that it’s too small and too close to the camera, making it easy to accidentally hit that instead and smudge the lens. So for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 we want the scanner on the front, but rather than being under the screen we want it built into the screen, like the Galaxy S10 and some other phones are now doing. 4. A completely new lookhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/uJyBHQYERBCixZkUvr9FZf.jpg The Galaxy Note 9 looks good, but we've seen it all before The Note 9 is a nice looking phone, but it’s also similar in design to the last few and the bezels are starting to feel a bit much compared to the likes of the iPhone X and Huawei P20 Pro. So we’d like to see a design overhaul for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. It can keep the water resistance and the curvy screen, but hopefully the rest of the design will change to something fresher and more modern. 5. A lower priceThere’s no getting around the fact that the Note 9 is a very, very expensive phone and we’re expecting the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will be at least as pricey. But we’re hoping it won’t be. If Samsung can shave a couple of hundred dollars/pounds off the price then it could have far wider appeal. 6. Improved facial recognitionhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/pa4Prof7LJrPo4GJK5CaCj.jpg We'd like to see Samsung match Apple for facial recognition The Galaxy Note 9 has both an iris scanner and facial recognition, but - as we note in our review - even combined these sensors are no match for Apple’s Face ID, so we’d like to see real improvements here for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. That will probably mean packing in more and better cameras and sensors on the front so it can build up an accurate 3D picture of our face. That could be expensive and make removing the bezel trickier, but if it leads to a fast, secure scanner that works in almost all lighting then it might be worth it. 7. An even longer-lasting batteryFor the Galaxy Note 9 Samsung upped the range’s battery size to 4,000mAh, delivering over a day of life in the process. That’s good work, but we want to see further improvements for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, especially given that batteries wear out over time, so if you plan to hold on to the phone for two years or more you might notice significantly reduced life by the end. On that note, if Samsung can make the battery degrade slower that would be appreciated too. 20. For the second year in a row, Mobile World Congress (MWC) – one of the biggest shows in mobile technology – is without any major smartwatch or fitness tracker announcements. Instead, the show has been full to the brim with new top-end, exciting phones like the Huawei Mate X and Sony Xperia 1... but why isn't there more wearable tech? The show has featured the odd wearable product such as the new HoloLens 2, but that's not set to be worn by millions of people around the world as they go about their daily lives. It's targeted at a business audience instead. The Nubia Alpha meanwhile wraps around your wrist, but rather than being an outright smartwatch this is a device that's somewhere between that and a phone. It's an odd concept, and we're pretty certain it's not going to replace your Apple Watch in the coming months. That's partly because it's not out until the second half of this year, and partly because it's trying to do something different to your average smartwatch. Watch-less showIn previous years, we've seen phone manufacturers turning up with wearable products in tow alongside their new top-end phones, but we now haven’t seen a major consumer wearable launch at the show since MWC 2017. That last product was the Huawei Watch 2, and that again was the only major wearable device at the show. Wearable sales are still growing worldwide (at least, they were doing in 2018) and we're seeing more and more companies embrace the space. Indeed, companies are still pushing ahead in the smartwatch and fitness tracking markets, but they're just moving away from Mobile World Congress as "wearables" further solidifies itself as its own segment. The focus has now switched to other shows around the world. CES saw a variety of smartwatch announcements in 2019, while IFA 2018 was one of the best years yet for new smartwatch and fitness tracker releases. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Lqz7tZnwyHQfP8PCe6fiAK.jpg A selection of the wearable products announced at CES 2019. Image Credit: TechRadar, Sphero Baselworld 2019 is right around the corner too. Its heritage is as a mechanical watch show where many of the top-end brands in traditional wristwear announce new collections, but last year we saw a lot of new smartwatch tech there and we’re expecting a similar amount again this year. If last year is anything to go by, we can expect new smartwatches from the brands that Fossil controls alongside announcements from other legacy wristwear brands either embracing hybrid designs or full-blown smartwatch tech. Samsung has also just unveiled its Samsung Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Fit health band family, and instead of holding back that announcement for MWC it bundled it in with the Galaxy S10 range for an unveiling a week earlier. Rumors initially suggested Samsung may announce its new wearables at MWC instead of the company's own separate Unpacked event, but that doesn't make as much sense for the company. Bigger fishIf you're pre-ordering a Samsung Galaxy S10 on the first day it's available, the company would love you to pre-order the Galaxy Watch Active too so why not have both on offer at the same stage? Rumors of the Google Pixel Watch continue to build, and we expect Apple to unveil the Apple Watch 5 in September this year, although little is known about what it will be able to do. Meanwhile, Fitbit and Garmin as well as a huge swathe of running watch specialists haven't ever had a presence at MWC, so there's no reason for them to start now. Why announce your new products in the mix of a big show alongside other headline-grabbing devices when you're an already established company that can reveal a wearable whenever it's ready? All in all, wearables moving away from Mobile World Congress isn't such a bad thing. As long as wearables fans aren't getting shortchanged, that's all that really matters. 21. A new feature has rolled out to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Insider ring this week that brings Dolby Atmos upmixing to all Microsoft's Xbox One consoles. Designed by Dolby, the upmixing feature will effectively turn non-Dolby Atmos sound into premium Dolby Atmos, or something closer to it. Although it's not going to sound as good as encoded-at-source Dolby Atmos, it'll hopefully make the audio in games and movies sound much better and bring a greater sense of immersion to whatever you're watching because of it. For those new to Dolby Atmos, it's an audio format that takes recorded audio from a movie soundtrack or video game and spits it out in a more immersive way – an object based sound system that goes beyond the channels of stereo sound or surround sound. The big difference is it delivers a more three-dimensional effect – imagine the difference between hearing a helicopter flying over a scene through speakers to your sides versus directly over your head. Here's all you need to know about Dolby Atmos: the ins, outs and sounds of the object-based surround systemFancy upgrading your audio? Panasonic has revealed new Dolby Atmos soundbarsLiving in a Dolby Atmos world: how I made the jump to home overhead soundAccording to Forbes, the feature is being tested with a select number of users right now before being rolled out to the general public. Right now the Dolby Atmos upgrade is 'on' by default with no option to switch it off. But Steven Wilssens, the Xbox Audio Lead, told Forbes that when the feature gets a wider public release there'll be an option to toggle it off for those who want to hear non-Atmos audio in its original format. 22. Given the unwanted attention Huawei has been receiving for its alleged ties to the Chinese government and the snooping this would imply, it seems reasonable that the company’s chairman will try to defend its legitimacy. One of the primary concerns directed at the Chinese telecommunications giant is that it would be required to adhere to its local government’s laws, even when practising abroad, which would theoretically allow the Chinese government to gather data on international customers via its products. In a recent discussion with reporters, Huawei Chairman Liang Hua was asked if the company would adhere to the government’s hypothetical demand to employ a backdoor in its products, to which Hua stated it would “not execute that request”. Furthermore, Mr Hua stated that Huawei had sought independent legal advice on the matter and found that it was under no obligation to adhere to the Chinese government's wishes if it were to request a backdoor, which it apparently hasn’t done thus far. Hands on: Huawei Mate X reviewBanned togetherHuawei’s 5G technology has already been banned in the US, Australia and New Zealand, and the UK is soon to decide on a similar ban. The most recent pleas of innocence have been made during a press event in Canada, in the hope that the country will not choose the same path as its fellow Five Eyes allies. It was only a few months ago that the Huawei CFO was arrested in Canada, facing charges of fraud, and another company employee faced allegations of espionage in Poland. Needless to say that Huawei is seeking to shift its global opinion into a more positive light in order to sell its advanced telecommunication technology to countries outside of Asia. “At the end of the day, we hope the decisions on 5G can be based on technology instead of other factors”, Mr Hua said. 24. While Amazon Prime Day is now a well-established annual bargain-hunting phenomenon in overseas markets, Australia has had just the one so far. That’s because Amazon entered the Australian e-commerce market late, arriving Down Under in December 2017 to an underwhelming response. Despite that, Amazon made every attempt to quickly improve its catalogue of products and has expanded its warehouse network by adding a second one in Sydney. With its Aussie ambitions growing, Amazon finally debuted Prime Day Down Under in 2018, offering some excellent bargains across every category to its Prime members. Read more: Is Amazon Prime worth it in Australia: Amazon’s subscription service explainedAmazon raised the price of its Prime subscriptions in the US by 18% last year, leaving Australia with one of the cheapest fees globally. With benefits including free expedited shipping, early access to Lightning deals, and free subscriptions to Prime Video and Prime Music, it’s well worth considering signing up for Amazon Prime even if it's not just for Prime Day 2019. For free, fast delivery and a host of other benefits, sign up for Amazon Prime nowAustralia wasn’t the only country to debut Prime Day in 2018 – Singapore, the Netherlands and Luxembourg joined the bandwagon as well – making it one of the most successful Prime Days in Amazon history. But was it worth all the hype, and will it do better in 2019? Let’s find out. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/LBFmeAiuq8YkfBa6uyz9jg.jpg Image credit: Amazon What is Amazon Prime Day?Amazon Prime Day began in the US in 2015 as a celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary, with more deals on offer than Black Friday at the time. Today, Prime Day is Amazon’s members-only sale held once a year, historically in July. While it began as a one-day sale, 2018 saw the offers last for 36 hours. To make the most of Prime Day you’ll need to get yourself an Amazon Prime membership which, in Australia, will set you back just $6.99 a month or $59 a year. Signing up for Prime means you’ll have free access to Amazon’s streaming services, including Prime Video, Prime Music and Twitch. Members also get free access to Prime Reading and Prime Photos for all their ebook and storage needs. Most importantly, a Prime membership gets you free shipping on domestic purchases, no matter the price of the product, and free delivery for international goods costing over $49 bought from the global section of Amazon’s Aussie storefront. How did Amazon perform on its first Australian Prime Day?According to statistics from Hitwise, Amazon got over over 3.2 million visits (on both the US and Australian sites) on Prime Day 2018, with Aussies preferring the US storefront despite a ban on shopping from overseas sites after new GST laws were passed. That ban, however, has been lifted, which could be good news for Australian shoppers this year. Data from Hitwise shows that Aussie shoppers searched for mobile phones and game consoles the most in the lead up to Prime Day 2018, with Amazon’s own Echo and Kindle products amongst the 10 most viewed items on Prime Day itself. The high volume of visits resulted in a nice number of sales for the e-commerce giant with a conversion rate of 7.77%, the highest rate that any top Australian retailer has reached. Prime Day 2018 earned Amazon a whopping US$1 billion in sales. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ec59465937c13562bd597d5220fbca91.jpg Image credit: Amazon Prime Day 2018: the best-sellers from last yearPrime Day 2018 saw Amazon sell over 100 million products around the world and over one million smart home devices – not just Amazon ones but Philips Hue lights, Hive thermostats and various manufacturers’ smart plugs. It was the biggest day ever for Echo devices, Fire tablets for kids, Kindle e-readers and Fire TV products. A lot of the products that went on sale globally aren’t available on the Australian storefront. According to Finder.com.au, Amazon Australia only had about a tenth of the deals offered to US customers and significantly fewer than those available to Canadian and UK members. Where the US typically offered 2,800 deals at any given time, the Australian version only had 340. On the upside, discounts were more generous. That said, Amazon is still relatively new in Australia, so we can hope it does better this year. And despite the low volume of deals available Down Under, Amazon did sell a whole load of gaming consoles, particularly the Nintendo Switch. The latest console from Nintendo had over 71,500 page views, followed by Sony’s PS4 Pro at over 31,000 views, according to Hitwise. In fact, the Lightning Deal on the Nintendo Switch was offered twice and both times saw the console sell out within seconds of the deal going live. Best deals from Prime Day 2018While the Nintendo Switch and the PS4 Pro were last year’s bestsellers, some of the discounts on other tech products were also rather significant. For example, the Xbox One S 1TB Minecraft Bundle was on sale for just $199, down from its usual $398 listed price. Bose’s very popular and excellent QuietComfort 35 II noise-cancelling headphones dropped down to a low of $329 a set, although it was even cheaper over the Black Friday sale period in 2018. Amazon’s own Echo devices saw significant price drops, with the original Amazon Echo smart speaker selling for just $109 over the Prime Day sale, while the Echo Dot dropped down to just $39 a pop. Even the basic Kindle ereader saw a great discount of $30, bringing the price down to a very affordable $79. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/fZJVNZvVrnCSs7uSrKmFD8.jpg Image credit: Nintendo What to expect from Prime Day 2019 in AustraliaAmazon has been expanding its catalogue ever since it arrived on Aussie shores, and we’re fully expecting the online marketplace to outdo the 2018 offers. First and foremost, though, expect to see Amazon’s own products to receive significant price drops. Prime Day 2019 would be a great time to nab yourself the 2018 range of Echo devices, including the All-new Echo Dot and Echo Plus. You’ll also find great offers on other smart home products, including the Philips Hue starter kits and bulbs, and also on robot vacuums like the iRobot Roomba 960. Expect the Amazon-owned, and rather expensive, Ring Video Doorbell 2 to receive a discount as well. With more TVs available on Amazon Australia now, we think Prime Day 2019 would be an ideal time to upgrade your home entertainment system, especially if you’re in the market for a good 4K smart telly. We saw premium headphones receive great discounts on Prime Day last year, as well as over the Black Friday shopping period, meaning you’ll definitely be able to snag a pair of Bose or Sony headphones for less. Amazon has also partnered with Samsung to offer Aussie customers an easy one-stop shop for all of the South Korean manufacturer’s products. We’re hoping that some of these, including the latest Galaxy S10 range of handsets, see a slash in prices on Prime Day this year. And avid readers are definitely going to be able to pick up a Kindle, even the premium Kindle Oasis, at a cheaper price. What does Prime Day mean for Black Friday and Cyber Monday?Amazon has historically prioritised Prime Day over Black Friday – according to Digitalcommerce360.com, 67% of the 2018 Prime Day deals available overseas were lower than comparable deals on the preceding Black Friday. In Australia, though, we saw some prices drop lower during the Black Friday sale period as compared to our first ever Prime Day. Perhaps Amazon was testing the waters, and we fully expect the company to outdo itself during both sales in 2019. But Prime Day is more important to the firm, and we’d expect its discounts to be deeper this year, especially on its own devices. Prime Day: why does it matter more to Amazon? There are some crucial differences between Prime Day and Black Friday. The first is that Prime Day is Amazon’s own day. It’s right there in the name which, of course, refers to Amazon’s Prime membership program and associated services. Amazon doesn’t own Black Friday, and that means ultimately it’s just another retailer shouting for attention – a massive retailer with a really loud voice. Black Friday is a sales event for the entire retail sector. With Prime Day as its own take on November sale period, it makes it much harder for rivals to muscle in on something that Amazon has effectively created from thin air. The second and more important difference is that Black Friday doesn’t create new spending. It just moves it slightly. As we’ve discovered in recent years, the money people spend over the Black Friday period is money they were probably going to spend anyway: all Black Friday really does is concentrates pre-Christmas shopping in the last week of November. Prime Day spending is different in two ways. First of all, people aren’t spending the money they’d already planned to spend on Christmas presents. And secondly, they’re buying mainly for themselves, not for others. There’s another key benefit for Amazon. Its global bestsellers on Prime Day weren’t just Amazon devices; they were Amazon devices that connect to Amazon services. Fire TVs, Kindle Fires, Echo devices, Alexa remotes. Each one of them connecting to Amazon Prime, and each one of them requiring a Prime membership to buy in the first place. So when Black Friday rolls around, Amazon will have a whole bunch of Prime members for whom shopping on Prime is the default, and who might want to enhance their Amazon-powered smart homes with Amazon-branded Black Friday deals. Prime Day means that for Amazon, Christmas now comes twice a year. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/FBeAO3A9ayc

The best VPN for Netflix 2019February / March update: There were some surprise hits in February, from the cult comics classic The Umbrella Academy that's now in its first season on Netflix to season two of The Dragon Prince. In March things will get a bit dark with the debut of the third season of Santa Clarita Diet (March 29) as well as the fifth season of How to Get Away with Murder on March 31. If blood, guts and comic books aren't your scene, Arrested Development's second half of the fifth season drops on March 15. So where should you start? The check out Not On My WatchCheck out our Amazon Prime vs Netflix video below: We've got some bad news, true believers: Netflix will no longer play host to Marvel TV shows. The companies announced their separation in late 2018, and sealed the deal in February of this year with the cancellation of Jessica Jones and The Punisher. That said, for the foreseeable future, you'll still be able to watch episodes of all the existing Marvel shows, which now include Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and the one-time crossover event, The Defenders. But don't dawdle, there's no telling what tomorrow will bring for the heroes (and villains) of Hell's Kitchen. Seasons on Netflix: 3 While we were disheartened to hear that Netflix would end its long-running partnership with Marvel Studios on shows including Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, we were treated in February to The Umbrella Academy - a comic series written and developed by former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerald Way. The comic series, which is currently in its third run, has attracted a huge cult following (not unlike My Chemical Romance) and Netflix scooped up the rights to the series. That said, the show isn't as great as its Marvel forerunners - but it scratches the itch for super-powered TV shows without relying on iconic (and expensive) IPs. Seasons on Netflix: 1 The long-awaited reboot of everyone's favorite teenage witch is finally here, just in time for Halloween - all 10 episodes of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are available to stream now on Netflix. From the looks of it, the new series is pretty dark as Sabrina navigates the mortal world and her supernatural heritage. Seasons on Netflix: 1 Dancing Queen is a reality TV show meets documentary, which follows former RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Justin Johnson (AKA Alyssa Edwards) in his day job as the owner and director of children's dance company Beyond Belief. Fans of Dance Moms, Drag Race, and Queer Eye will love this heartwarming series - but be warned - with only eight episodes on Netflix, it's dangerously binge-able. Seasons on Netflix: 1 Created by Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett, Big Mouth is a fictionalization of Kroll and Goldberg's teenage years in Westchester County, New York. The series is all about puberty, with Nick's raging hormones personified by Maurice the Hormone Monster, who wreaks havoc on his anxiety-ridden teenage life. Season 2 has just hit Netflix, and it's still as graphic as ever in its frank portrayal of the ups and downs of being a teenager and dealing with a changing body (don't watch this one with your parents). Seasons on Netflix: 2 Critically acclaimed comedy The Good Place is back for a new season, continuing to follow the afterlife of a recently deceased woman who is sent to heaven by mistake. The last season ended on something of a cliff hanger, so fans will be pleased to know that there will be a new episode every week. A great cast, clever writing and an original concept make this a must-watch. Seasons on Netflix: 3 Starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, Maniac is a dark comedy miniseries, which follows two strangers as they embark on a pharmaceutical trial for a drug that claims to solve the users problems, permanently. In the first day of its release, the show has been met with widely positive reviews, and the entire first season is available to stream on Netflix. Seasons on Netflix: 1 Bojack Horseman is back for a brand new season, following glowing reviews for the previous four. Following the life of washed up actor Bojack as he struggles with alcoholism, toxic relationships, and family issues, the series is just as heartwarming as it can be heartbreaking. For those who are worried it may be too dark for them, fear not - there's loads of slapstick humor, word play, and stunning animation to keep everything balanced. Seasons on Netflix: 5 Coming of age show Atypical is back for a new season, with Keir Gilchrist reprising his role as Sam Gardner, an 18-year-old with autism. Season two follows Sam as he starts thinking about colleges, and his family as they struggle to come to terms with a betrayal. Sam may be the show's protagonist, but it's his little sister Casey who steals the limelight in the new season, as she tries to balance school, her running career, friendship, and love. Even if you left education a long time ago, it's difficult to shake that feeling of 'back to school' at the beginning of September - with that in mind, why not try out a few high school themed shows on Netflix? A good place to start is American Vandal, a mockumentary that examines the aftermath of a school prank that sees teachers' cars vandalized. The light-hearted ribbing of serious true crime documentaries like Making A Murderer and The Staircase has received great reviews, and the second season is set to arrive on Netflix on September 14. Seasons on Netflix: 2 Before the new season drops on October 10, you can still catch up with the first two seasons of Riverdale, the teen drama based on the infamous Archie comic book series. If you were a fan of Archie comics as a kid, this interpretation of the beloved characters is far darker and more mysterious than you'll remember, revolving around the murder of a local boy while the characters attempt to navigate high school, relationships, and family. Seasons on Netflix: 2 Orange Is The New Black is back for its sixth season and is a show that consistently one of the best to watch, with its superb tale of life in a women's prison. It's so popular that its makers have announced that the show will be running until at least season seven. That being said, the show is dark. Tensions and issues with the US prison system brought to the forefront and while the comedy from the first few seasons is still there, it's slathered with a fair bit of drama. Seasons on Netflix: 6 ESPN might've had the world of sports documentaries well in hand with its 30 for 30 series. But that was before Netflix got the crazy idea to make one of its own. Inspired by an article in GQ magazine, Last Chance U follows student athletes who are one step away from never playing football again. On top of the pressures on the field, students face problems in the classroom where class absences and the fear failing hit harder than a defensive lineman. It's gritty, heart-wrenching and exactly the kind of series that gives you something to root for all while biting your nails. Just in time for football season, the third season of the show – which follows a new team in Independence, Kansas – is now available. Seasons on Netflix: 3 Before we continue on with recommendation, Shameless comes with a warning: this show, a dramedy about a poor family in Chicago, really is shameless. Frank, played by William H. Macy will scheme his way to his next drink ... even if that means taking his own kids' lunch money. If you have ethical problems watching less-than-admirable people doing whatever it takes to make ends meet, Shameless isn't for you. All that said, those that don't mind a bit more ... unscrupulous cast of characters will seriously enjoy Shameless's grittier, sex- and money-driven take on the Modern Family comedy. Seasons on Netflix: 8 13 Reasons Why tackles tough subject matter in a way that's both heartfelt and shocking in equal measure. The show is a high school drama that revolves around a student, Clay Jensen, and his friend Hannah Baker. Hannah commits suicide, and the first season covered the 13 reasons why that happened. As you'd expect, a lot of the topics and themes in 13 Reasons Why might be distressing for some viewers. So really bear that in mind if you're planning on watching it soon - and consider who you're planning on watching it with, too. That said, if you can stomach the source material, 13 Reasons Why offers a well-wrought candid look at the societal pressures put on teens in the technological age. Seasons on Netflix: 2 Netflix has had a rocky road with sci-fi adaptations - the Wachowski's Sense8 had grand ambitions but didn't quite hit the sweet spot for everyone. Altered Carbon is hoping to change that, with its unique blend of dystopian science fiction. Based on the book of the same name by Richard Morgan, the show has sparks of brilliance ( Joel Kinnaman is great) but is also occasionally ridiculous in its outset (James Purefoy hams it up throughout). It strives to be more than it actually is but we admire what it's trying to do. Oh, and it looks fantastic in 4K. Seasons on Netflix: 1 If you feel like you've been getting too good of sleep recently, American Horror Story is all-too-happy to fix that for you. You'll find seven seasons of the show on Netflix, each of which centers around a different plot line and unique set of fears. Not sure if clowns are all that scary? Watch American Horror Story. Think porous materials are harmless? Again, watch American Horror Story. Anything you love can and will be used to scare you silly. [update: American Horror Story: Apocalypse, the eight season in the anthology series is out now on FX. We're not sure when it will be available to stream on Netflix, but we will update this article as soon as it lands.] Seasons on Netflix: 7 Given that Archer is set at the International Secret Intelligence Service (unfortunately abbreviated as ISIS), recent terror atrocities have meant the animation has been getting headlines for the wrong reasons. But don't let this unlucky nomenclature put you off. Archer is a brilliant send-up of spy movies of yore, complete with some of the best voiceover talent - many of which have been pruned from the cast of Arrested Development. Now in its ninth season, Archer is still one of the best cartoon comedies around. Seasons on Netflix: 9 If it wasn't for Netflix, Arrested Development would have stayed as a three-season wonder. The streaming giant decided to take a gamble and fund a fourth season of Mitchell Hurwitz's brilliant family comedy and we are glad it did. While splitting the family up for most of the season meant some of the spark had disappeared - this was done to fit in with the actors' busy schedules - the fourth season proved that there was still a lot to like about the dysfunctional Bluth family. Filled with season-long in-jokes, perfect site gags and spot-on wordplay, Arrested Development is a comedy that needs to be watched on repeat - and even then you will find something new to laugh at. Seasons on Netflix: 5 Freddie Highmore was one of the sweetest child actors around in his younger years, playing cherubic children in the likes of Finding Neverland and the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Now he's a fully fledged adult he's taken a much darker turn as future Psycho psycho Norman Bates in the show Bate Motel. A prequel of sorts to the Psycho movies, Bates Motel is a fantastic spin on the horror tale, ramping up the relationship Bates has with his mother - a cold and calculating Vera Farmiga - and sprinkling breadcrumbs along the way that point to how he became who he became. Seasons on Netflix: 5 Better Call Saul is better than Breaking Bad. That’s a sentence we never thought we would write, but it’s now three seasons and it is flawless TV. It doesn’t have the menace or fear that propelled Walter White in Breaking Bad, instead it takes its time to paint a picture of Saul Goodman, someone that was in Bad mainly for comic relief. In his own show, though, creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have created a well-rounded, means well character whose descent into criminality is a slow burn. Although some characters have started to appear from Breaking Bad, the show doesn’t beg for the appearance of Walter White or Jesse - it’s now it’s own thing entirely. Seasons on Netflix: 4 Season 4 of Black Mirror is out now and is the darkest, most varied season of the show yet. Comprising six episodes of varying (almost feature) length, Charlie Brooker has concocted another dose of dystopian satire that riffs off everything from Star Trek to, well, schlock-horror The Driller Killer. Before Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker was best known for his snarky looky at the news in Weekly Wipe and his fantastic, caustic look at meeja types in London’s Shoreditch. Now the show has given him superstar status. For good reason, it’s fantastic TV with each episode taking on a different dystopia topic, mostly framed around technology going very long. The third season was commissioned by Netflix and is in 4K, with most of the episodes being feature length. Seasons on Netflix: 4 More addictive than the meth pushed by Walt and Jessie, Breaking Bad is brilliant binge-watching television. The initial plot is simple: a straight-laced teacher is told he has cancer and to make sure he leaves his family with the best possible life, he turns to drug making and dealing. There's method to his madness as he ends up being pretty good at it. Creator Vince Gilligan has created such a good group of characters, he is currently mining the same world again with Better Call Saul. But that has some way to go reach the highest highs that Breaking Bad offers. Seasons on Netflix: 5 The words 'food porn' get thrown around a lot these days, and typically are preceded by a hashtag and proceeded by us viciously rolling our eyes. But Chef's Table is the real deal – 4K footage of some of the best chefs in the world making their signature dishes and doling out morsels of philosophy to keep your mind just as engaged as your stomach. Parts of the show come off as a bit too heady for the source material and are prone to veering a bit off course (there's multiple scenes where a particular chef talks about polygamy for some odd reason) but overall most of the chefs come off as genuinely eccentric masters of their craft. Seasons on Netflix: 4 Wish your fairy tales were a bit ... darker? Dark is a German-language supernatural thriller in which the disappearance of two children in a small town brings the fractured relationships and dark pasts of the people living there to the surface. Adding a touch of Scandinavian crime thriller to American drama, Dark is an example of foreign-made TV from Netflix that translates into every territory. Seasons on Netflix: 1 If you like your cultural analysis with a dose of humor, Dear White People is the show for you. Starring Logan Browning at the conflicted Sam White, Dear White People navigates the tricky grounds of race relations in America in the post-Obama-but-yet-not-post-racism era. The first few episodes back away from hitting on anything too heavy but come episodes five and six, you get a biting sense of why this show is so needed at this point in our history. Funny, clever and dripping in wit, Dear White People isn't so much an attack on American ideals as it is a series about exploring, explaining, defending and deliberating the issues facing people of color in the US. Seasons on Netflix: 2 Created by Netflix and Vox Media, this handy and smart series takes a look at some of the most popular ideas and tech around today and explains them in a way that's poignant in its presentation without feeling overwhelming to take in. From the racial wealth gap, cryptocurrency amd why diets rarely work through to K-Pop and the stock market, it's an insightful look at the problems, ideas and trends around today and the stuff that could shape tomorrow. At the very least, it gives you enough knowledge to have a really good debate down at the pub. Seasons on Netflix: 1 Co-created by and starring the ever-brilliant Brit Marling, The OA consists of eight episodes that rival Stranger Things for, well, strangeness. Marling is a blind woman who comes back after disappearing for many years. Her sight is restored and she has a tale to tell. Although there are eight episodes they vary wildly in length - from 70 minutes to 30 minutes. The whole thing has been made to make you feel uneasy and it does a great job of that. Seasons on Netflix: 1 The long-awaited second season of the female wrestling comedy GLOW is finally here. The Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling have returned and this time they’ve been commissioned for a full series of their trashy, hot-pink, hairspray-fuelled wrestling show led by their coked-up director (played by Marc Maron). Early reviews suggest the second season could potentially even outshine the first for its refreshing female-fronted cast and writers and its brilliant balance between empowerment and exploitation. It’s a must-watch. Seasons on Netflix: 2 Based on the life of comedian Bill Burr, F is for Family is a funny and endearing cartoon set in 1970's American suburbia, and centers around Burr's father Frank Murphy. A little like an even more adult version of The Simpsons, the series is all about 70's nostalgia, with musical, costume, and cultural throwbacks interspersed with Frank's profane rants at his misbehaving children and long suffering wife Sue. Full to the brim with laugh-out-loud moments, the series is just as heartwarming as it is hilarious. Seasons on Netflix: 2 Calling The IT Crowd the British version of The Big Bang Theory is an insult to one of the greatest 'nerd' comedies of all-time. Even though the show ran for a scant four seasons, it remains one of the best parodies of modern geekdom. If you need a break from all the murder mysteries and crime fighting shows on the streaming service, the IT Crowd is a harmless, hilarious take on life in the world of IT and thoroughly deserves its cult status. Seasons available on Netflix: 4 And there was us thinking that Daredevil's subject matter was dark. Jessica Jones is another tale set in Hell's Kitchen that may be under the Marvel banned but is about as far removed from the bromance of Thor and Iron Man that you are likely to see. Breaking Bad's Krysten Ritter is superb as the titular Jones, a private detective with superpowers and super issues. This is nocturnal noir that moves in the same circles as Daredevil - figuratively and literally as both characters will eventually team up in the Defenders. It may not have the bone-crunching violence that Daredevil is famed for, but there's enough booze, sex and black humor on the screen to make this a cracking comic-book caper that's strictly adults only. The second season arrived in March 2018, adding 13 new episodes to this great show. Don't miss our full Jessica Jones review! Seasons on Netflix: 2 This awkward rom-com has been penned by Judd Apatow and it's yet again another hit for Netflix Originals. It's a similar bedfellow to Master of None, but it improves on the themes of dating, love and city life with characters that are more rounded and a touch more believable as they fail, give up and start over again in rapid succession. Community's Gillian Jacobs is great as the prim Mickey, while Paul Rust is effortless as slacker Gus. The show stealer, though, is Apatow's uber talented daughter Iris who plays a frankly horrible child star. The 'will they, won't they?' shenanigans continue in the second season - those expecting a plot-heavy season will be disappointed, though, as Love meanders through its storylines - which is no bad thing (and more realistic) if you ask us. Love's third and final season, the third, is also ready to watch. You can finally lay this rocky relationship to rest. Phew. Seasons on Netflix: 3 Luke Cage is back for a second season and this time he's brought some of the other TV superheroes along for the ride. This season sees Cage teaming up with the Iron First for what is an other assured stab at the Luke Cage mythos. After making his debut in the first series of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage is now firmly rooted in Hell's Kitchen and over two seasons (and two shows), the character has matured into something of a powerhouse. The second season still suffers from the same slump the first did, but after the mediocre The Defenders and the plain bad Iron Fist, this is a breath of fresh air. Seasons on Netflix: 2 Mad Men is more addictive than the cigarettes Don Draper is trying to market us. If you've never watched it, essentially Mad Men is a show about everything we now consider taboo in glaringly harsh light. Set in 1960s America, inter-office intercourse is par for the course, along with ashtrays overflowing with cigarettes, sexism at the highest levels and a complete disregard for morals so long as it serves the characters on their climb to the top of the corporate ladder. Don Draper (Jon Hamm) and his assistant Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss) shock and entertain us by showing the lifestyles of the advertising executives who got the public to buy cigarettes long after they knew the health risks. Seasons on Netflix: 7 True crime stories are so hot right now, evidenced by the immense popularity of the podcast Serial and HBO's The Jinx. Netflix's original series Making a Murderer however, is probably the hottest of them all, documenting and recounting the trials of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey, two working-class Americans accused of the murder of 23-year-old photographer Teresa Halbach. Over its 10 episodes, the show exposes the failings of the Wisconsin justice system in blood-boiling detail. Having spent 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, Steven Avery is exonerated based on new DNA evidence. However, shortly after his release, he becomes the prime suspect in Halbach's murder, and Avery is put through the ringer once again by law enforcement figures that seem to have it out for him. What follows is an anger-inducing sequence of events that involve forced confessions, unconvincing (and possibly planted) evidence, dodgy lawyers and a complete presumption of guilt from almost everyone involved. Compelling, infuriating and tragic, we guarantee you won't be able to stop watching Making a Murderer once you've started. Seasons on Netflix: 1 Master of None takes Ansari out of Amy Poehler's shadow and brings him into his own, showing audiences a side of the comedian that anyone in their mid-20s or early 30s can relate to. Like Louie, Master of None covers the oddities of everyday life, incorporating all the heartfelt moments and awkward situations that come with the territory. If you haven't watched it, now's a good time – the second season just arrived. Seasons on Netflix: 2 David Fincher is no stranger to Netflix, he's heavily involved in House of Cards as producer and directed the first episode, but Mindhunter is Fincher going ... well, full Fincher. It's based on John Douglas' book of the same name and charts the life of an FBI profiler whose job it is to track serial killers. It's set in the '70s and all 10 episodes of the show ooze appeal. It's a sinister mashup of Silence of the Lambs and Mad Men and stars the superb Anna Torv - of Fringe fame. Fincher directs four episodes and the whole thing has been written by Joe Penhall who wrote the screenplay for The Road. Seasons on Netflix: 1 My Next Guest Needs No Introduction has a simple but fantastic premise: What if, instead of having David Letterman host a late night talk show, he sits down with some of the most prominent people in entertainment and politics and just talks to them, person-to-person. There's no big band to play him off, no goofy segments to fill time, and no commercial breaks. It's just Letterman and his guests for 50 minutes at a time. The inaugural episode stars former US President Barrack Obama, which in and of itself makes it worth watching. Seasons on Netflix: 0.1 (There's only one episode out right now) Narcos is that wonderful thing: a TV show that doesn't scrimp on controversy. Based on the exploits of Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar, the show examines the criminal's rise to the top of one of the biggest drug rings the world has seen, while constantly trying to avoid the clutches of the DEA. Uncompromising, uncomfortable but completely unforgettable, Narcos is exactly the sort of thing that Netflix should be commissioning. It's also the sort of thing that HBO would have snapped up just a few years ago - which is very telling as to where television is today. The third season of Narcos is out now! Seasons on Netflix: 3 Based on the manga of the same name by Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan is an action -packed anime that's set in a world where humans live in cities protected by enormous walls to protect them from gigantic humanoid monsters called Titans who devour them at any opportunity. When a Titan breaks through the wall of protagonist Eren Yeager's hometown, he vows to get revenge by joining a group of soldiers who battle them. Although the show has a dedicated fan following, the second and third seasons are yet to be released on Netflix. Seasons on Netflix: 1 Zooey Deschanel is adorkable - a word that we hate to use but describes her character of Jess perfectly. The plot lines are thin here but the comedy is sheer gold as Jess lives with a gaggle of guys who just can't seem to get their lives together. Now going into its last season, Jess has a man-crush and while we don't want to ruin the surprise here, the long journey from single life to nearly married is one well worth taking. Seasons on Netflix: 6 We always knew Amy Poehler was funny. Sketch after sketch on Saturday Night Live proved she had the comedic timing of a professional stand-up mixed with the creative capacity of an executive producer. Each episode of Parks and Rec is a chance to see Poehler do what she does best, with an excellent supporting cast of Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Aubrey Plaza and Rashida Jones behind her every step of the way. While we were sad to see the show come to a heart-wrenching conclusion this year, the finale in February was the perfect excuse to go back and binge-watch the entire series from start to finish. Seasons on Netflix: 7 Need a dose of feel-good TV to help cope with today's rocky political landscape? Check out Queer Eye, a show about being the best you with help from five of the coolest dudes on the planet. The show just entered its second season and we're still loving the premise of taking people stuck in a rut and hoisting them to the self-respecting, self-loving person we all want to be. Seasons on Netflix: 2 Santa Clarita Diet is sort of like if the show Dexter met Modern Family. It stars Drew Barrymore as the stereotypical TV mom, with one simple, but quite interesting difference: she likes eating people. This brand-new show on Netflix is a great send up of the family sitcom, taking all the tropes that make Modern Family and the like so successful, then turning them on their head, and then eating their head. And be warned: when things are eaten it's all very grizzly – so much so that it could give The Walking Dead a run for its money. That said, it's probably best to put the kids to bed first. The second season of Santa Clarita Diet came to Netflix in March 2018, and proves this high-concept show isn't a one-season blow-out. Seasons on Netflix: 2 It shouldn't work but it really really does. This modern retelling of the Sherlock Holmes stories is as good as it gets. Benedict Cumberbatch is everything you want in a Holmes - someone that wallows in wit, weirdness and warmth. While Martin Freeman plays Dr Watson as he plays all his characters - he's the everyman that has to learn how to deal with his extraordinary colleague. Episodes are scarce but each one is feature length, which gives them time to breath. Let's just hope these two superstars can find time in their busy schedules to keep doing the show. Seasons on Netflix: 4 When it comes to TV and movies, the '80s is the nostalgia decade of the moment. Whether it's Jeff Nichols' Midnight Special that plays like a Steven Spielberg film, if Spielberg still made films like he did in the Eighties, or The Goldbergs and Red Oaks mining the decade for laughs, filmmakers can't get enough of the shell suits and Sony Walkmans. Stranger Things is another brilliant homage to this era. Leaning heavily on Spielberg, John Carpenter and Stephen King the story revolves around a small town, a group of friends, a missing person and a dodgy science lab. Writing anything else would give away the myriad twists in a show that is full of brilliant creepy fun. The second season of Stranger Things will be available to stream on Oct. 27. Seasons on Netflix: 1 Is The Crown Netflix's crowning glory? Not quite, but it is a sumptuous look at one of the world's most famous families: the Royal family. Charting the early years of the relationship between the Queen (Claire Foy) and Prince Philip (former Doctor Who Matt Smith), the show was written by Peter Morgan and, at £100 million, is one of the most expensive TV series ever made. Which means there's enough pomp and ceremony to keep those pining for a Downton Abbey replacement happy. The second season continues to chart the queen's life, tracing major events from 1957 to 1963. We're ready for season 3, in which Olivia Colman takes over the lead role. Seasons on Netflix: 2 If The Great British Bake Off or Zumbo's Just Desserts makes you feel inadequate, you should try Nailed It!, the baking show for people who suck at baking. The series sees three contestants per episode take on two impossible baking challenges, with the "winner" receiving $10,000. (Winner is a term we use loosely, of course.) Hosted by the infectiously upbeat Nicole Byer and suave French pastry chef Jaques Torres, this show is guaranteed to make you smile. [update: The Christmas edition, Nailed It: Holiday is out now...perfect watching for a cosy night in.] Seasons on Netflix: 2 Adapted from the comic book of the same name (mins the ***), The End Of The F***ing World is f***ing brilliant. It tells the tale of two teenagers on a journey; both are loners on the run but one of them just happens to be a bit of a psychopath. It's funny, but brutal TV. It's British and co-funded by Channel 4 and there's a fantastic edge to everything in it - and it's perfectly bite-sized, too at just under 20 minutes an episode. It's so good, it's destined to get a second season. The first ends so perfectly, though, it's actually a real shame that this will happen. Seasons on Netflix: 1 (and it needs to stay that way) http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/rH2gfSdlD8w
