Huawei has started rolling out their latest OS update, EMUI 9.1, to a wide array of Huawei phones in the UAE starting with the Mate 20 series. The update brings with it a host of speed and performance upgrades along with key design and AI improvements that will make your Huawei phone feel more pleasant and intuitive to use.

Here’s why you should be excited for Huawei’s most advanced software update ever:

All-new super file system for faster random read performance

One of the major improvements in EMUI 9.1 is an over-hauled file system that promises 20% faster random read times and faster loading of apps. Where most operating systems rely on the flash memory based F2FS system, EMUI 9.1 will use Huawei’s own EROFS file system.

It’s designed to be read-only for tighter security and restricts intrusion by prohibiting system partition re-writes form third-party software. And there’s good news for those irked by how much of their precious storage was eaten up by the OS. EROFS uses advanced file compression to reduce the amount of storage it needs on your device, freeing up space for personal use.

Better visuals and smoother gaming performance with GPU Turbo 3.0

Gamers watch out! If you loved the improved gaming performance brought by GPU Turbo .2.0 in your Huawei device before you’ll love what’s coming in the next version. Expect faster performance that puts less strain on the chipset and reduces power consumption by 10%, high frame rates and better visuals.

GPU Turbo 3.0 will work with twenty five of the most popular mobile games in the world to give gamers almost full-frame rates without compromising performance. It will also use AI image scheduling to improve visual performance in dark environments, smoothing out jagged edges and ensuring details in images pop out.

Focus on design and user experience

EMUI 9.1’s interface design pays particular attention to creating a natural aesthetic that makes the phone’s UI feel more organic and less notably digital. It makes the device pleasant and elegant to use. Huawei have achieved this by revamping themes, wallpapers and icons on the phone that are more in line with this new aesthetic.

Capture the Moon like never before

Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X users will be able to snap clearer and closer pictures of the moon with a new ‘moon mode’. This will be part of the super zoom available in the devices’ triple Leica camera setup.

Improved convenience and so much more

There’s still a lot more to look forward to with EMUI 9.1 such as an ‘incoming call video.

show’ feature that lets users select their own or use third party incoming call displays for contacts. Improved convenience delivered by additional features like AR Measure that can not only measure the length of objects but also their volume with great accuracy. The health app on Huawei devices will also be a better workout partner by giving you more accurate information on steps taken, speed and calories burned as well as allowing you to connect your Huawei device to certain treadmills.

Other convenient improvements including being able to call up Google Assistant without having to turn on the screen through Anytime Assistant by pressing and holding the power button. If you own a Huawei laptop, you’ll soon be able to share files between your Huawei phone and computer with a simple tap. No need to go through a complicated pairing process.

When you feel like sharing a screen recording of your computer while gaming, you only need to shake and tap your Huawei phone and a sixty second recording will be saved on the phone.

EMUI 9.1 update roadmap

All these features and much more are available right now for certain Huawei phones. The update is rolling out on the Mate 20 series including Porsche Design Mate 20 RS, Huawei Nova 3e, P Smart and Y9 (2018).

Huawei is committed to providing continuous updates and support to their user base and will push the update out to even more models over July and August including the Huawei P20 range, the Mate 9 and 10 series, the Nova and Y series.

The update should show up automatically on your Huawei device. In case, it doesn’t, you can check manually buy going to Settings > System > Software update]> Check for updates. you can also download the update through Huawei’s HiCare app by going to HiCare App > Update > Download.
