PerLod
I want to say hello to all members of this friendly forum!
Matthew Miller Posted yesterday at 09:09 AM Share Posted yesterday at 09:09 AM Welcome to the forum. Since you're new here, it might help to mention what topics brought you in, whether that's a particular hobby or just general discussion. That usually gives other members an easy way to jump in and respond. I'm in New York myself and mostly read threads to pick up ideas, so a short intro about your interests would make your hello easier to build on. Ethan Lewis
The point about naming specific topics is a fair one, since a bare hello leaves people with little to respond to. I'm in Rhode Island and mostly read threads to pick up ideas, so I'd second that: even a line about what you like reading or tinkering with gives others something concrete to engage with. General discussion works too, but a bit of detail tends to get more replies than a greeting on its own.
Hannah Martin
The advice about naming a specific topic holds up, and I'd add that mentioning what you like reading or tinkering with works just as well as a full hobby list. I'm in Little Rock and mostly read threads to pick up new ideas, so even a line about a subject you want to learn more about gives others a clear hook. A greeting alone tends to get fewer replies than one with a bit of detail behind it.

Ethan Lewis
The point about giving people something concrete to respond to is worth repeating. I'm in Rhode Island too, and I mostly drop into threads to pick up ideas rather than post, so a line about what someone likes reading or wants to learn about is usually what gets me to reply. Little Rock and Rhode Island posters landing on the same suggestion suggests it travels well. Even a short note on a subject you're curious about beats a greeting on its own.
