[0.5.1 Host Game menu] Test Silent server not starting

Howdy guys.

I recently tried to setup a test server using Windows 7 and had something happen that I've never seen before. It's actually somewhat similar to what the guy in this thread is experiencing. This is only a test server for testing some models and soundpacks I've been working on and not being used as a dedicated server. Hence I'm execing et.exe and not etded.exe. I'm also executing the .exe as admin.

I keep recieving this error.
ERROR: BG_IndexForString: unknown token 'PPSH': (animations/scripts/human_base.script, line 22)

This only happens if I exec the Silentmod from the main menu. If I do a vanilla ET test server it works fine. If anyone has ideas for things to try I'm game to give it a shot.

It's not similar. That one is OS X issue when connecting to dedicated server.

It looks like the cgame is not loaded. You say when startng from the menu. Could you please list the full procedure you use when you try it so we can try reproducing the issue.

It looks like the cgame is not loaded. You say when startng from the menu. Could you please list the full procedure you use when you try it so we can try reproducing the issue.

I only say a similar issue because it's giving the same error message.

Here is the process I am using to start the host server.
1. Click on et.exe shortcut from start menu
2. From main menu screen, select mods tab
3. Select Silent, click "Load Mod"
4. With SIlent loaded, click "Host Game" tab
5. From host game menu, I use these options
Game Type: Single-Map Objective
Max players: 20
Auto-configure server (tried both yes and no, same results)
Dedicated server: No
Password: none
6. Select "Start Server"
7. Recieve error message.



Have you copied serverfiles to your silent directory before starting a server?

I have no, since I am not trying to setup a server but rather host a local game. I should probably make another install using a dedicated server side setup though.

I used to be able to host a local game by simply using whatever client files I had downloaded. It was an easy way for me to check mod soundpacks etc. I however had not done this in a long time because I use a dedicated test server for testing now. I was just wondering why this error kept occurring. I've verified that you are indeed correct. Inserting the qagame.dll into the mod folder will allow silent to locally host without a problem. Thanks for the help Gaoesa.

I think the same goes to the other mods as well.

You are correct..most other mods. However I can repeat the procedure with ETpub by using the client side only files. It appears to work just fine.

I got this error when I tried running Silent test servers on a home computer with Win7. I also got reports of it from other players trying to connect to my silent mod server, last year when I was running it on a host with WIn2008 server (silent 0.5.0)

Very frustrating error. We referred to it as "the PPSH error" on the forum when the players reported it. I never had any good explanation for them either.

If it happens when connecting to a working server it usually indicates the player is not running the game as administrator while the game files are under Program Files folder. The game can also be installed outside of the Program Files folder where it doesn't need the administrator privileges. Nevertheless, these issues are not related to this topic.
