Strange that it's related (as you've said) only to ETPub related mods, as this is engine issue rather.

It's in the file handling routine of ET engine.

 

Are you sure there isn't anything checking that file at the very moment, like some anti virus or something?

I have all my ET installs excluded from Avast! scan, so it shouldn't be it; However it is configured to show nothing for full screen application, will try to disable that and see if it reacts towards the mod runtime.

 

Edit: Nope, nothing on the side of the AV :/

Re-extracted manually the DLLs, it started, but when joining a server, I get another crash, and the windowed console displaying what's below (same for other ETPub-based mods, ETPub itself; ETPro/NQ are fine);

 

Note that I'm a Windows 7 user, I start the game as admin, and it is installed out of Program Files (so I shouldn't get that Pure Server check thingy with the DLLs of the mod).

 

NQ is also ETPub based. It reall doesn't make much sense that it happens in ETPub and in silEnT but not with other mods. You should install the game outside of the "Program Files (x86)" and not run it as an admin, it would give you at least a little better security. Overall, you shouldn't run programs as admin unless they really do have some serious reason they would need it.

 

Please try to set up your own server locally and test connecting to it.

 

Server:

...\etded.exe +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game silent +map oasis

Client:

...\et.exe +connect 127.0.0.1

All my installs are already out of Program Files;

 

On a lite install, for waypointing, I can host a dedicated and play on it (tested 2 maps);

On my main installation, I get couldn't reopen pak2.pk3 while launching the dedicated server.

Blind guess, have you tried removing some of the pk3 files?

Have you tried to copy the pak2.pk3 from the light installation to the main installation? Also, have you tried moving all the suspicous looking files outside of the tree. But first, please try moving all the .dll files outside of the silent folder. Additionally dll files out from the etmain folder too, if you start the game to the etmain (without the +set fs_game silent).

Same pakX.pk3 files in all my installs, they're all copy/paste from my main one (checked checksum in case).

 

DLLs are not extracted btw now, I guess the game has not been far enough to do so

Indeed. It is initializing etmain. You need to have the "+set fs_game silent" on the server command for the silEnT mod to load. Also, you need to have the qagame dll file for the server in the silent folder.

The shorcut has:

"C:\Jeux\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\ETDED.exe" +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game silent +map oasis

 

It works fine in the other install o.o

 

Is there some kind of PK3 in my etmain which could cause this?

No. The mod is just not getting started as a server. Are you sure you have the qagame.dll in the silent folder. It probably got cleaned when you deleted the other dll files.

Game code(ui_mp_x86.dll) failed Pure Server check

As I remember this error is accompanied by a admin/file rights if you have packs installed correctly.

You should try to run this as admin and additionally try to lower a bit UAC settings I think it is causing the problem.

Overall, you shouldn't run programs as admin unless they really do have some serious reason they would need it.

This problem is really common on Vista & Windows 7 too, personally didn't have any problems with that but my friend had.

Starting a dedicated on a clean install (thus no DLLs extracted yet) results in my last post Quote content:

Starting is as admin doesn't change anything. Again, I have all my ETs out of Program Files.

 

I will try first to load it as client to see if the DLLs are correctly extracted.

 

Edit 1:

Started through a shortcut loading directly a clean silEnT mod, it started; No DLL extracted still, will try to join a server now.

This is a bad advice. Only reason to run the game as an admin is the lack of permissions to write to the "Program Files" folder. Better solution is to install(copy) the game outside of the Program Files tree. Outside of all system directories of course.

Yeah that's right, but is ET not trusted application I think it is but only thing which threatens is the mod that can contain malware code.

Well I played 3 or 4 maps in a row without issue on a silEnT server :D Hope it will last! Thank you :)

 

I have two DLLs (not the qagame); Do you want me to try again with a dedicated on that install?

That is incorrect and you know it as you have made your own AC dlls too. Any admin can run any code on any players computer and the situation is even worse if the program is running as an admin. Malicious code in our mod would be easily tracked to us. That is not the case for every server out there that might have their malicious codes in add on pk3s. However, I never recommend running the mod as an admin even if it is directly from us. There is no reason for the silEnT mod to require admin privileges. The engine does not need admin privileges either as long as it can write to the folders it unpacks the zip files and can write the player configs.

If it runs ok then I think it is sorted for now. I was just curious to find out what was the cause of it. If you like to test a server, I think creating a separate server instance is better. That way your user configs don't get overwritten by the server.

Yeah, you understood me wrong, didn't say that your mod have any sign of malware code but I said it on basically that any server admin can make own creepy malware mod. Personally it will be a lot of pain for my AC to run it without admin persmissions because some things may not be working correctly, additionally ET as any application without these rights is essentially restricted when it comes to self-update, network or memory scanning. I had many troubles to make this AC compatible with any mod without binary replacing (launcher).

 

But without departing from the subject:

Sometimes I had such an this error when module was loaded twice or wasn't unloaded correctly.
