  1. The existence of a "Realistic" difficulty mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops III was recently discovered by the game's achievement/trophy listings. Now, Treyarch has provided more details on how this uber-challenging mode works. Producer Jason Blundell tells XboxAchievements, “[in Realistic] you have one point of life, so if you're shot once, you're dead. It completely changes the way you play the game."

    http://static3.gamespot.com/uploads/scale_super/536/5360430/2950189-black_ops_3_provocation_zip_line_wm_1444637302.jpg

He went on to say that surviving in Black Ops III's four-player co-op campaign will require the coordinated effort of all soldiers. And patience. Lots and lots of patience, it seems.

"You all have to survive as a group," he explained. "You end up respecting the level in a completely different way, and once gunfire opens up, everyone just drops to the ground, because if any one bullet hits you or a grenade goes off near you, you're dead."

Past Call of Duty games have featured Recruit, Regular, Hardened, and Veteran difficulty settings.

If you're playing Black Ops III's co-op campaign with computer characters instead of human friends, you may be happy to learn that the game's AI has been completely rewritten to "make independent decisions," Blundell explained. He added: "We have more types of AI than we've ever had before."

Black Ops III launches on November 6 for all platforms. The last-generation versions of the shooter do not have a campaign mode, a point that will be made clear on the game's box. In other news, a Treyarch producer apologized for a recent Black Ops III marketing campaign involving a fake terrorist attack.

Activision also has released stunning new trailer for Black Ops III's zombies mode, Shadows of Evil, showing off the virtual versions of actors such as Jeff Goldblum, Ron Perlman, Heather Graham, and Neal McDonough.

How many features can you pack into the restrictive confines of a mini-ITX motherboard? Whatever the answer, Asus is coming close to it with the Maximus VIII Impact, which it announced at an event in San Francisco on Friday. The tiny motherboard is densely packed with an impressive feature list, including some capabilities that you won’t even find on midrange ATX motherboards. As a member of Asus’ high-end ROG Gaming line, though, the Maximus VIII doesn’t come cheap. This is a premium $250 board in a damn miniscule package.

As you may be able to tell from the image above, the Maximus VIII Impact includes a built-in wi-fi adapter (802.11ac). It has a hefty VRM (voltage regulator module) mounted vertically at the top of the board, which offers some serious overclocking potential for both CPU and RAM. According to an Asus rep I spoke to at the event, they were able to push a Skylake CPU to its limits in the high 4GHz range on the Maximus VIII Impact.

Also included: USB 3.1 Type-A and Type-C, an on-board sound card rather than a small sound chip, and a fan extension card for multiple fan inputs (which would be useful in a versatile mini-ITX case like the Cougar QBX).

In addition to its four SATA ports, the Maximus VIII Impact includes the recently-named U.2 connector, which Intel has used for its enterprise 750 SSD. The U.2 connector isn’t nearly as well-known as the up-and-coming M.2, but it could end up being the connector of choice for the fast solid state storage of the future, with included support for x4 PCIe speeds. If U.2 catches on, the Maximus VIII will definitely be a future-proof motherboard.

  3. Nvidia was handed a major setback Friday in its lawsuit with Samsung over the improper use of its graphics technology.

    http://cnet1.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2015/02/02/9861589b-91e7-4b4d-8937-cadf4e702304/resize/570xauto/8f4c029a9c66a670a207dbae86c32a23/20140426151723.jpg

Thomas B. Pender, an administrative law judge for the US International Trade Commission, wrote that Samsung didn't infringe on Nvidia's graphics patents. He also determined one of Nvidia's three patents is invalid because the technology had already been covered in previously known patents.

The decision deals a blow to Nvidia's efforts to prove that Samsung illegally used its technology. If found guilty, Samsung, the largest smartphone maker in the world, could face a ban on US shipments of certain products, including the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5. But the judge's decision is an early recommendation, and the ITC still has to make a formal decision.

"Today's initial determination is one more step in the ITC's legal process," Nvidia said Friday in a statement. "We remain confident in our case."

Samsung didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

ITC opens investigation into Samsung's patent suit against Nvidia

Nvidia, which is best known for making graphics chips for PCs, filed lawsuits with the ITC and US District Court in Delaware in September 2014 involving seven of its patents. At the time, Nvidia said it asked the ITC to block shipments of several Samsung smartphones and tablets to the US and requested the district court award damages for the alleged infringement.

Nvidia's specialty in graphics is the focal point of the dispute. Samsung has tended to use Qualcomm's processors in its high-end devices. The Note 4, for instance, uses a Snapdragon 805 chip. Samsung also uses its own Exynos chips in some models, particularly those sold in Korea and its newest products, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5. The devices mentioned in the suit involve Qualcomm's Adreno graphics, ARM Holdings' Mali technology and Imagination's PowerVR graphics architecture, which are three of Nvidia's main competitors in mobile graphics.

Beyond the smartphone, several Samsung tablet computers, including the Galaxy Tab S, Tab 2 and Note Pro, were listed as well.

Nvidia's suit was only the latest in a series of lawsuits in the hot mobile sector. Samsung has been battling Apple for the past several years over technology used in its smartphones and tablets. The two companies a year ago agreed to settle all disputes outside the US, but their lawsuits continue in the country. Microsoft also has sued Samsung, saying it didn't live up to its patent licensing agreement for technology used in Android tablets and smartphones.

Companies have tended to file lawsuits with the ITC to speed up the process of addressing the dispute. Civil suits could take years to go to trial, and they're often held up for even longer in the appeals process. An ITC sales ban, however, could severely hurt a company's

profits or force the two sides to negotiate a settlement.

Popular streaming-video service Netflix is raising prices for the second time in two years, lifting the cost of its most popular level of service in the US, Canada and Latin America.

The sign-up page on Netflix's site said that the company's "standard" tier of service, which lets two people watch separately at the same time and includes content at a high-definition picture quality, would increase by $1, to $9.99 a month, starting November 18. Prices for its "basic" and "premium" tiers remain the same.

Existing members get a slight reprieve and will keep their current price for a year, the company said.

"To continue adding more TV shows and movies, including many Netflix original titles, we are modestly raising the price for some new members in the US, Canada and Latin America," Netflix spokeswoman Anne Marie Squeo said. She added the company is releasing nearly 450 hours of original and first-run content globally this year. (First-run means Netflix is the initial place you can watch something in a particular territory.)

Netflix has grown to 65 million subscribers thanks to its combination of international expansion and high-profile original content, such as the series "House of Cards" and "Orange Is the New Black." But those efforts come with big price tags, prompting the company to raise prices once last year in addition to the most recent hike. Thursday's understated announcement -- through a change to its website and an email to current members -- is similar to the last hike and starkly contrasts its price increases in 2011, when a 60 percent bump outraged US members and triggered a wave of defections.

The company raised prices by a euro in European markets this summer. The latest increase raises the price of the standard plan to $9.99 in the US, Canada and Latin American countries where the company prices its service in US dollars. Chile, Colombia and Mexico also are raising prices -- for all three plans -- in their local currencies.

Some people who were members before 2014's price increase were "grandfathered" through that hike with a guarantee to keep their price for two years; their prices will be unchanged until at least May 2016.

In 2011, Netflix said it would divorce its DVD-by-mail service from its streaming one. The DVD spinoff would be called Qwikster, and rather than a combined $9.99 bill for both, customers would pay $7.99 for each. The move enraged customers, and a chastened Netflix company ultimately aborted the spinoff idea, but not without losing 77 percent of its stock's value in four months and 800,000 subscribers.

Netflix shares were up 5.4 percent, or $5.79, at $113.89 in recent trading.

  5. Dell has redesigned the XPS 15 laptop, and it’s available today starting at $1,000 for the base model, and up to $1,700 if you want something with a little more power.
Dell has added its edge-to-edge "InfinityEdge" display to the XPS 15, much like the display in its popular XPS 13, and it’s looking extra nice. You’ll have the option of a 1920x1080 resolution or the 3840x2160 4K touch display. Another cutting edge inclusion: a USB 3.1 Type-C port (also compatible with Thunderbolt 3).
An added bonus of the narrow bezel is that the 15.6-inch display now fits roughly into the size of an average 14-inch laptop. Its dimensions are 11-17mm x 357mm x 235mm, and it weighs 3.9 lbs for the non-touch, and 4.4lbs for the touch version.
    http://ec0c5a7f741a6f3bff65-dd07187202f57fa404a8f047da2bcff5.r85.cf1.rackcdn.com/images/hWfSuKoZV5ci.878x0.Z-Z96KYq.jpg
Dell has also upgraded to Skylake processors, letting you choose between the 2.7 GHz Core i3-6100G, the quad-core 3.2 GHz Core i5-6300HQ, and the quad-core 3.5 GHz i7-6700HQ. As for graphics, you’ll be choosing between Intel HD Graphics 530 and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M. The latter isn’t the most powerful card out there, but it's capable of good 1080p gaming performance—it's roughly equivalent to a desktop 750 Ti.
8GB DDR4 memory at 2133 MHz comes with most of the options, with 16GB on the most expensive i7 model, but you can upgrade up to 32GB if you want. For storage, you’ve got the options of a 500GB HDD + 32GB Flash, or 1TB HDD + 32GB Flash. Solid State Drives are also available, with 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB PCIe options.
Dell claims the XPS 15 should be able to get up to 16 hours of battery life, depending on configuration. Expect to get less than that when you're gaming, of course.

Get Together, the second proper expansion for The Sims 4 after Get to Work, was announced back in August. Its main feature is the introduction of Clubs that your Sims can join based on their interests and personalities, but it looks like now Get to Work is joining its own club: the rapidly growing club of delayed games.
The original release was supposed to come in November, but the latest news from EA pushes that back to December 8 (in North America anyway; the rest of us will get it some time later that same week). I guess at least that makes it a better fit for your Christmas list, which is definitely a better way of getting these expensive expansions than paying for them yourself.
The update explains the delay in the same way these things are normally explained: they needed more time to "add more polish and depth". They also say they're adding some new features, and since they haven't mentioned them before that might even be true. One is a board game called Don't Wake the Llama that made me think of that Don't Wake Dad game used to see advertised on television every Christmas but looks from the screenshot to be a Jenga clone.

  7.

In the latest of TF2's seemingly eternal supply of updates, the mercs are faced with their most outlandish threat yet.
The update brings four new community created maps, some of them 'Invaded' versions of existing maps and others entirely new. The Watergate map introduces a new 'player destruction' mode, in which both teams have to collect beer from dead players and deliver it to a UFO in the middle of the map.
It's set up in much the same way as the Gun Mettle Update, with an 'Invasion Community Update Pass' available from the store which gives you a coin that tracks kills on invaded maps for the month that the event lasts. You don't need to buy it to access the maps, and all the money raised goes to the update's community creators.
Buying the pass also makes you eligible for random drops of 'Space Cases' that can contain anyone of a bunch of the new cosmetics that have also been added. When Valve have done similar things with CS:GO, I've often been able to make back the money by selling my first couple of crate drops—so long as it's in the first day or two before the price of them comes crashing down on the community market.

Ubisoft has officially announced Far Cry Primal, a new entry in the first-person shooter series that takes players to the "savage Stone Age." It will be released worldwide on February 23, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, followed by a PC release in March.

Described as a "full-fledged single-player experience," Far Cry Primal is set in 10,000 BC, at a time when "massive beasts like the woolly mammoth and sabertooth tiger ruled the Earth." As Takkar, a hunter and last surviving member of his hunting group, players arrive in an area called Oros with the singular goal of survival.

"They will meet a cast of memorable characters who will help them push back and tame the dangers of the wild," Ubisoft explains. "Players will journey as the first human to tame the wilderness and rise above extinction.

"Along the way, they will have to craft weapons and tools partly from the bones of slain beasts, hunt for food, master fire, fend off fierce predators and face off agains other tribes to conquer Oros."

In the reveal trailer, which you can watch above, the player is seen bringing down a woolly mammoth using spears and arrows alongside other members of the hunting party, before a saberooth tiger pounces. Later on, members of a rival tribe can be seen attacking the player, who looks lost in a dense forest area.

Far Cry Primal creative director, Jean-Christophe Guyot, has said he believes the Stone Age is the perfect setting for the game.

“Far Cry usually puts you at the edge of the known world, in a beautiful, lawless, and savage frontier. The Stone Age is, in a way, the very first frontier for humankind; it’s the time when humans put a stick in the ground and claimed land for their own, the time when we started climbing the food chain. That came with conflict, against other humans of course, but also against nature itself."

Far Cry Primal is being developed by Ubisoft Montréal, in collaboration with Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Shanghai Studio, and Ubisoft Kiev Studio. The company has released a developer diary, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how Far Cry Primal came together.

Far Cry 4, the last numbered entry in the series, outperformed expectations for Ubisoft, which said interest in the game was the strongest in franchise history and revealed it sold substantially more than Far Cry 3.

Ubisoft chief executive Yves Guillemot has previously said Far Cry will be one of the company's tentpole franchises for years to come.

"The Far Cry franchise is here for the long-run and is a stronger contender in the shooter genre," he said.

  9. Ubisoft is teasing a new game announcement by streaming a mysterious video of a cave painting depicting a man holding a bow in one hand and a large spear in the other. The embers of a fire can be seen flitting in front of the image.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAQmt-60nUY

In addition to this, eerie music, the sounds of growling beasts, and ritualistic chanting can be heard in the background. There is also what sounds like normal speech, but there's a layered echo effect on the audio, which makes it difficult to make out what's being said. The video is slowly zooming out to reveal more of the painting, so keep an eye on it.

It is unclear what this project may be, but the most obvious guess would be a new entry in the Far Cry series, which has prominently featured both hunting gameplay and the bow and arrow weapon. The video description also says "survival is timeless" and survival has been a core theme of the Far Cry franchise.

In November 2014, Ubisoft addressed whether it will do a spin-off for Far Cry 4 akin to Far Cry 3's 80's action movies inspired Blood Dragon. Alex Hutchinson, creative director at Ubisoft Montreal, indicated while Blood Dragon 2 wasn't on the cards, it would consider another unique setting to spin-off into.

"That's was what was cool about [blood Dragon], it was surprising," he said. "It was a great use of the Far Cry 3 base, and had an awesome soundtrack. But no, you won't get another one of those. But hopefully we'll be able to surprise you with something just as much."

The teaser may be related to this new spin-off. Of course, it could also be a brand new property, or something tied to For Honor, an action game that pits warriors from different civilizations against each other.
    http://static3.gamespot.com/uploads/scale_super/43/434805/2947135-art.jpg
In February 2015, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the Far Cry would be one of the company's tentpole franchises for years to come.

"The Far Cry franchise is here for the long-run and is a stronger contender in the shooter genre," he said during a conference call.

According to Guillemot, Far Cry 4 outperformed expectations for Ubisoft and interest in the game was the strongest in franchise history. The game has sold substantially more than Far Cry 3.

The open-world shooter managed strong sales despite launching on the same date as other high-profile blockbusters such as Dragon Age: Inquisition and Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

A  number of unsuccessful smart refrigerators from manufacturers like Samsung and LG over the years. And now Bud Light is trying its hand at connected cooling with a new app-enabled beer fridge that has Wi-Fi built right in. Dubbed the "Bud-E" (and slathered on all sides in Bud Light-blue branding), the new smart mini-fridge will be available online at Bud Light's website for $600. But first there'll be an initial test run in California where the price will be discounted by half, to $300.

The fridge underneath that coat of bright blue paint is the Linq IQ, developed by Buzz Products, a design firm with offices in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The Linq IQ is licensed exclusively to Anheuser Busch, so for now it'll only come in the Bud Light-themed design. Or, if you're in Canada, you can get it in a red Budweiser finish.

  11. US consumers are about to get a new defense against cybercrime. The armor will take the form of credit and debit cards with a built-in chip, which retailers must be able to read as of Thursday.

Short for EuroPay, MasterCard and Visa, EMV chips create a one-time-use code needed for each purchase, which makes stolen card numbers less valuable on the black market. Consumers may see slightly longer transaction times as in-store readers run the EMV cards, assuming merchants have set up the new payment terminals in time.

Industry watchers don't expect every merchant to meet Thursday's deadline, which was set last year by MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express. Retailers do have an incentive to act quickly, though. Stores that don't have EMV-reading terminals will need to make good on in-store purchases made with counterfeit cards. ATMs and gas pumps will face the same liabilities in 2017.

The card companies wrote that rule after cybercriminals stole about 40 million credit and debit card numbers from the payment system of retailer Target during the 2013 holiday-shopping season. Currently, the banks that issue cards are on the hook for fraudulent charges.

There are two ways hackers steal sensitive information. They can use card skimmers to read a card's magnetic stripe at an ATM or gas pump. They can also penetrate retailers' corporate information systems, as they have with Target, Home Depot, Neiman Marcus and many others, to copy card numbers. Those stolen numbers can be used on fake cards to make fraudulent purchases. Two-thirds of fraudulent purchases inside stores are made with counterfeit cards, said Stephanie Ericksen, Visa's vice president of risk products. Authentic cards that were stolen account for the other third.

That's where these new chip cards can help. Because the chips send encrypted, one-time codes for each transaction, the cards are harder for fraudsters to read and duplicate, experts say. While the cards are just rolling out in the US, the technology isn't new. Europe started using cards with embedded chips in 2005. Apple Pay and Android Pay mobile payments work on the same underlying rules.

    http://cnet3.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2015/09/23/4959cf7f-d36a-4687-a63b-619390c304cf/resize/570xauto/c2d5185e9882c675a6fe259f561ef9ca/mobile-payments-visa-paywave-chip-security-credit-cards-4865.jpg

Despite the impending retailer deadline, many consumers still don't know about the new kinds of cards. In an August survey by electronic payments company ACI Worldwide, 59 percent of consumers reported they hadn't received credit cards with EMV chips. Only a third knew the United States is shifting toward chip readers. What's more, only 27 percent of merchants are prepared for the October deadline for card reader technology, according to a report released in mid-September by the Strawhecker Group, a consulting firm for the payments industry.

Experts say the slow rollout could be due to the cost of new card-reading equipment. Merchants must weigh the expense of buying new payment systems and training employees on that gear against the unknown hit from fraudulent charges. Some may even consider their new liabilities the cost of doing business.

Consumers will need to adapt to the new system too, experts said.

"There may be some initial inconvenience at the point of sale," said TJ Horan, vice president of product management at FICO, which helps banks determine a consumer's credit risk.

Despite the increased security, industry watchers don't expect card fraud to disappear. Horan likens it to squeezing a water balloon: If you push fraud out of the system in one place, it will simply shift somewhere else.

Clarification, 8:55 a.m. PT: The name of parent company ACI Worldwide has been added.

Logitech has unveiled the G410 Atlas Spectrum TKL Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, a small RG keyboard that drops the G910's custom angled keycaps in favor of a more finger-familiar shape.
Logitech says that fans have been asking for a smaller mechanical keyboard, so the G410 has a tenkeyless design (i.e. no numpad or macro keys) which makes it small and light enough to throw in your backpack.
The G410 has Logitech's custom “Romer-G” mechanical switches, which Logitech says register key presses up to 25 percent faster than its competitors (with a 45 gram actuation force and 1.5mm actuation point, they're easier to press than most Cherry keys).
The G410 has individually customizable RGB keys, and like most of Logitech's new products, you can download the Logitech Arx Control app for iOS or Android, which displays things like in-game information and vital statistics. The G410 comes with a little phone stand in case you want to prop it up on your desk with the app running.
The G410 Atlas Spectrum is scheduled to launch in the US and Europe in October with a retail price of $130 / €149. We've got our hands on one, and will be reporting back soon with a review.

Rainbow Six: Siege looks incredibly interesting a s amore grounded, nuanced take on the team based multiplayer shooter, but that is also all that it will be- Ubisoft has confirmed today that the game will not have any form of a single player campaign whatsoever. Multiplayer is all that it is. That said, the game can be played single player, by playing the multiplayer mode offline and against bots.

“There is no story mode per se,” saidArt director Scott Mitchell to WhatCulture. “You go through training, where you get to experience different operators and their devices. You can play against enemy AI in co-op through all the maps. You can customize matches, so that’s what we’re offering on the single-player side of things.”

I mean, I guess it is good that the development team is at least singularly focused on its vision of what it wants to work on and is not getting distracted by other modes and inclusions, put in there just for the sake of checking items off of a checklist, but I am still not sure that there is a market out there for multiplayer only shooters- Titanfall, for example, demonstrated that.

Rainbow Six: Siege launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC this December.

Lg Flagship Devices are mostly known for its camera features, high resolution screen and smooth functionality. The Lg G5 continuing these features is going to be equipped with a 20 MP 1/2″ Sony camera sensor which is going to provide high quality images and combined with the laser focus technology and LG manual camera interface. Thus if you are into photography the G5 can be a smartphone of your choice.

This time Lg has decided to go with the flagship processor from Qualcomm the Snapdragon 820 as this time they would be manufactured by Qualcomm itself instead of using the ARM’s Big little cores the inhouse Kyro cores Click Here to read more about it. According to Qualcomm the new 820 chipset wont go through any heating and under clocking issues like the 810. The 820 chipset also comes with upgraded DSP( Digital Signal Processor) and an Adreno 530 GPU. The G5 is expected to launch next year most probably at the end of the first quarter.

  15. The ongoing Rainbow Six Siege closed beta is running at 1080p on PlayStation 4 and 900p on Xbox One, Ubisoft confirmed in a FAQ posted to the game's website. The PC edition's resolution, meanwhile, will fluctuate between 720p and 1080p depending on how beefy your rig is (see system requirements here).

These figures are for the game as it currently stands in closed beta. Final performance could be better. "We're still looking to push the hardware as much as possible in order to deliver a quality experience for players and will be able to share more about the final resolution once we're closer to release date," Ubisoft said.
    http://download.gamezone.com/uploads/image/data/1191950/Rainbow_Six_Siege.jpg

The Siege closed beta began on September 24 and runs through September 28. To get in, you'll need to preorder the game or acquire a key through other means.

It was also confirmed today, during a panel at Europe's EGX convention attended by whatculture, that Siege will not offer "a story mode per se." That's according to art director Scott Mitchell.

"There is no story mode per se," Mitchell explained. "You go through training, where you get to experience different operators and their devices. You can play against enemy AI in co-op through all the maps. You can customize matches, so that's what we're offering on the single-player side of things."

This is not to say Siege won't offer any single-player. Back in June, Ubisoft announced that Siege will have "scenario-based missions" similar to those seen in past Rainbow Six games. "Each scenario is designed with single-player in mind, though all of them can be played in co-op," Ubisoft said at the time. "As with the Hostage Rescue mode revealed at E3 last year, there's no respawning; if you go down once, you're down for good."

Siege was originally slated to launch in October, but it was recently delayed to December. Ubisoft has high hopes for Siege, as the publisher said back in May that the game has the potential to become the company's best-selling FPS ever, surpassing Far Cry 4. At the time, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said the game's replayability "will be key to the game's success."

  16. You would think that, because Windows 10 comes with Microsoft Edge preinstalled, you'd be able to ditch Internet Explorer. But you'd be wrong. Because Internet Explorer 11 comes preinstalled on Windows 10 -- and no, you can't uninstall it.

But you can turn it off. This Control Panel hack works in previous versions of Windows, too. Here's how to do it:

  17. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops III will not come with the game's campaign mode. Instead, last-generation players are only getting multiplayer and Zombies. Activision made the announcement Friday, saying the game was designed from the ground up to "harness the full power" of PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. As such, the game's campaign isn't making the cut on last-gen systems.

The last-generation version of Black Ops III is being developed by Beenox and Mercenary Technology, not principal developer Treyarch Studios.

The multiplayer mode featured in the PS3/Xbox 360 version of Black Ops III includes the game's new movement abilities and new characters, just as it does on current-generation platforms and PC. In addition, the zombies mode, "Shadows of Evil," will be playable in its entirety. However, Activision did not say if multiplayer or Zombies were in any way dialed back for last-generation systems (outside of graphics).

In addition, Black Ops III's new Weapon Paint Shop and its new esports-focused tools will only be present on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. These changes will be noted on the game's box.

Finally, Activision announced today that Black Ops III for PS3/Xbox 360 won't be full-price game, as it will sell for $50 instead of $60. The company also revealed that it will come with a free copy of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The Black Ops III release date is set for November 6 across all platforms.

  18. http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/BMW-X3-2015-640x353.jpg

Fallout from the Volkswagen diesel scandal continues to grow, as this morning brings reports that Audi’s head of research and development Ulrich Hackenberg and Porsche’s engine chief Wolfgang Hatz are both out — two of the top engineering figures in the Volkswagen’s other flagship brands. That comes as a bit of a surprise, even though it’s widely expected more heads will roll at VW aside from Martin Winterkorn, the CEO of the company’s worldwide operations, who resigned effective yesterday.

Meanwhile, there’s word from the German newspaper Auto Bild that BMW’s diesel engines were also “significantly” exceeding regulatory limits, CNBC reports, with the BMW X3 2.0-liter diesel model spitting out 11 times more nitrogen oxide than the current level set by the European Union.

“[We did not] manipulate or rig any emissions tests. We observe the legal requirements in each country and adheres to all local testing requirements,” BMW said in a statement in response to the allegations. “When it comes to our vehicles, there is no difference in the treatment of exhaust emissions whether they are on rollers (e.g. test bench situation) or on the road…We are not familiar with the test mentioned by Auto Bild concerning the emissions of a BMW X3 during a road test. No specific details of the test have yet been provided and therefore we cannot explain these results.”

Late last week, news of the diesel scandal broke as VW admitted to cheating on emissions tests with the use of a software-based defeat device on almost 500,000 of its 2.0-liter “clean diesel” TDI engines sold in versions of the Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, Golf, new Golf SportWagen, Passat, and Beetle, as well as the Audi A3, since the 2009 model year. The scandal encompasses both the 140-horsepower, 236 lb-ft-of-torque blocks and the newer 150-hp engines released beginning with 2015 models. Later VW admitted that the software is actually installed on over 11 million vehicles globally.

While diesel engine sales account for less than one percent of the passenger car market in the US, it had been growing, and it composes much more of the European car market thanks to higher fuel prices, looser emissions standards, and widespread fudging — reports abound of car manufacturers taping the doors shut and folding in mirrors to improve aerodynamics during tests, for example. It’s already known that VW has cheated in both the US and Europe. But the fact that its other brands may be exposed in the same manner, and that other auto manufacturers like BMW may also be involved, improve the odds that diesel may soon be dead in cars in the US once more.

Io Interactive has announced that Hitman, which was originally slated to come out on December 8, will not be released until sometime in March of 2016. The studio said the decision was prompted by the size of the game and the pseudo-Early Access release model, which will see it "put out a good chunk of the game" at launch and then release the remaining content over time.
"We want to make absolutely sure you all get the best possible experience when you join, so we’ve made the difficult decision to move the initial release date to March 2016," the studio explained at Hitman.com. "These few extra months will mean we can add more to the launch content of the game, more than we had originally planned, and then follow with a tighter frequency of updates, which ultimately will create a better game for everyone."
Io offered a more detailed explanation of its release plan for Hitman in July, when Creative Director Christian Elverdam explained that it's neither Early Access nor episodic, but somewhere in between, and kind of like both. Precisely how the post-launch content will break down wasn't, and still isn't, clear, although that information is apparently on the way.
"Moving a launch date is never an easy decision, we know it’s frustrating to have to wait a bit longer for the game, but we truly believe it will mean we can deliver a better launch and overall experience," Io said. "We’ll share more details next week about the full release schedule and scope of Hitman in general so keep a look out for that."

When Nvidia launched the 980M last October, it claimed that the laptop GPU could hit 75-80% of the performance of the desktop card. That was impressive compared to the mobile GPUs of a generation or two back, but not as impressive as what Nvidia’s done now: fit the entire, uncompromised desktop 980 GPU into gaming laptops. Starting early October with six laptops from MSI, Gigabyte, Asus and Clevo, the GTX 980 is making its way into laptops, with all 2048 CUDA cores intact. And it’s overclockable.
To show off the full-on 980 doing its thing in laptops, Nvidia demoed several laptops side-by-side with desktop machines to compare benchmarks. In Shadow of Mordor, Tomb Raider, and a couple other benchmarks, the laptop system was able to turn in nearly identical scores—at worst, about 5% off what the desktop machine delivered. In those cases, it wasn’t even quite a fair fight, since a laptop CPU was up against a more powerful desktop CPU. Some of the laptops were actually equipped with desktop parts and delivered dead even performance. In one case, 3DMark actually turned in identical scores down to the point.
The GTX 980 will be able to deliver 7 Gbps of memory bandwidth compared to the 980M’s 5 Gbps. Whereas the mobile 980s previously only had 3 phase PSUs, the new cards will be outfitted with 4-8 phase power supplies, which will vary by laptop. Every system that ships with a 980 will have a custom-tuned fan curve to keep the card cool, but it’ll also ship with some sort of overclocking tool, like MSI Afterburner or Gigabyte’s OC Guru.
    http://e5c351ecddc2f880ef72-57d6ff1fc59ab172ec418789d348b0c1.r69.cf1.rackcdn.com/images/OkZuj-UOrfJL.878x0.Z-Z96KYq.jpg
How overclockable the 980 will be will naturally vary from laptop to laptop, as different systems will have different thermal constraints. You can bet that the Asus GX700, that watercooled beast of a laptop we wrote about last week, will be able to push the 980 to its limits.
All of this performance requires the laptop be plugged into AC power, however. Without the extra juice from the wall socket, the 980 will deliver roughly equal performance to the 980M.
Here are the ones coming in the near future:
    -Asus GX700

    -Clevo P775DM-G

    -Clevo P870DM-G

    -Gigabyte Auros RX7Y4

    -MSI GT72

    -MSI GT80

Nvidia also told  that like with the 980M, there will be SLI configurations of the full-size 980 in laptops, too. That’s likely as much GPU muscle as you’re going to find in a laptop until sometime in 2016, when Nvidia has a new generation of cards to roll out.

  22. Could cyberattacks one day be governed by treaties like those limiting the use of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons? The US and China are reportedly taking a first step in that direction.

    http://cnet4.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/2015/09/19/45e001b5-1eb7-4d97-a2b7-afbe510965d5/38d0e49bb10853afa58b103e796f2aba/obama-and-china-president-xi-jinping-corbis.jpg

The countries are discussing a mutual promise not to launch a first-strike attack with cyberweapons on the other country's critical infrastructure, such as power plants, hospitals and banks, The New York Times reported Saturday.

The talks are geared toward producing a deal that would be announced next week during China President Xi Jinping's state visit to the US, the Times said, citing unnamed officials involved in the negotiations.

Such an announcement might not mention an official rule barring attacks on critical systems, a Times source said. Rather, it could involve a general embrace of a United Nations code of conduct that spells out nonbinding "principles of responsible behavior" regarding the use of cyberweapons like malicious software.

Nonetheless, the UN guidelines single out attacks on critical infrastructure as the "most harmful," and the negotiations could evolve into the first-ever arms-control deal for cyberspace, the Times said.

The news comes amid increased tension between the US and China over hacking and cyberspying. In June, the FBI said it suspected Chinese hackers of an attack on the US government's personnel office that compromised the data of millions of current and former federal workers. And in August, officials with the Obama administration told The Washington Post that the US was developing a range of "unprecedented" economic sanctions against China over online espionage.

The deal under discussion wouldn't prohibit such spying, or the theft of intellectual property, but it would, the Times said, "be a first effort by the world's two biggest economic powers to prevent the most catastrophic use of cyberweapons."

It's not clear, though, how effective a cyberweapons treaty would be, the Times noted. Unlike a missile strike, a cyberattack can be tough to track, making deterrence and retaliation difficult.

"It could create some self-restraint," a Harvard professor who studies US power told the Times, but "how do you verify it, and what is its value if it can't be verified?"

The White House did not respond to a request for comment on the Times report.

  23. For years we've been praising Volkswagen's TDI vehicles for their excellent blend of driving performance and fuel efficiency, but a recent claim by the US Environmental Protection Agency asserts that VW's diesel emissions may not be as clean as we've been led to believe.

    http://cnet2.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2014/06/04/3b04c472-baca-4131-b694-08c2a8168199/resize/570xauto/3e3d8c7fd0de0d484ff21373e775e8ea/2014-volkswagen-jetta-tdi-12.jpg

The EPA claims that illegal emissions control software was used on Volkswagen and Audi diesel vehicles sold in the United States between the model years 2009 and 2015. In its official statement, the EPA explains its findings:

"A sophisticated software algorithm on certain Volkswagen vehicles detects when the car is undergoing official emissions testing, and turns full emissions controls on only during the test. The effectiveness of these vehicles' pollution emissions control devices is greatly reduced during all normal driving situations. This results in cars that meet emissions standards in the laboratory or testing station, but during normal operation, emit nitrogen oxides, or NOx, at up to 40 times the standard. The software produced by Volkswagen is a "defeat device," as defined by the Clean Air Act."

Allegedly, the cars run in a clean mode when hooked up to testing equipment and switch back to a not-so-clean mode when disconnected. This causes the torquey TDIs to actually spew up to 40 times more tailpipe emissions when driven in the real world.

The affected vehicles are 2009-2015 model year Volkswagen Jetta, Beetle and Golf, the 2014-2015 VW Passat, and 2009-2015 Audi A3, totaling roughly 482,000 diesel passenger cars.

Neither the EPA's official statement nor its notice of violation to the Volkswagen Group of America makes any mention of a recall, but the agency did state that "VW may be liable for civil penalties and injunctive relief for the violations alleged in the [notice]." With a maximum possible fine of $37,500 per vehicle, VW and Audi could be looking at up to $18 billion in fines.

  24. Canon, the Japanese camera manufacturing giant recently launched there 250 Megapixel(19,580 x 12,600 pixels) cmos sensor in Tokyo at 7th September, 2015. The sensor is an APS-H-size (approx. 29.2 x 20.2 mm) has also set the world record for the maximum number of pixels in a Cmos sensor less that 35mm in size.

    http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B6XtUwUZdnQ/Vfw-mGTAnTI/AAAAAAAAJyE/k6wqu9DLRpM/s640/s_95d04a63ef7640d696847569d7d01b7b.jpg

Cannon also claims that the sensor can take images in which letters can be distinguished on the side of the plane, the location of the airplane being 18kms away from the sensor.

High megapixel CMOS sensors generally face problems such as signal delays and slight discrepancies in timing due to high megapixel count and high signal volume. However, the new Cmos sensor with advancements in circuit miniaturization and enhanced signal-processing technology provides an ultra-high signal readout speed of 1.25 billion pixels per second despite of its exceptionally high pixel count.

The camera Sensor can also record Ultra High resolution videos which are 125 times sharper then that of Full HD(1920x1080) and 30 times that of 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) video, which lets users crop and magnify the video without sacrificing image resolution and clarity.

According to Canon the technology wont be used in DSLR's and would be currently used for commercial purposes such as specialized surveillance and crime prevention tools, ultra-high-resolution measuring instruments and other industrial equipment, and the field of visual expression.

Prepare to ogle Japanese streams of Dark Souls 3 this March, because we in the west – Europe, North America and Australia to be specific – won't be getting the game until April. Publisher Bandai Namco announced the news at Tokyo Games Show this week, but they didn't give a specific date.
To make matters a little more confusing, the Japanese March 24 release date doesn't apply to PC in that region. That will be announced "at a later date", according to the Dark Souls 3 website. Whether that applies to the Western PC release as well hasn't been announced, but given the game's previous delays on our beloved platform, I wouldn't be surprised.
Still, once out it's unlikely to disappoint – so long as you're happy with a fairly stock standard Souls experience. "From what I saw of Dark Souls 3, it’s more of the same in style and spirit and structure," Wes wrote in his E3 preview.
