  2. If you're off on holiday, the chances are you're going to get close to some water, whether it's a hotel pool or the deep blue sea. It's also likely you'll want to capture some snaps of your aquatic adventures – and most cameras won't thank you for taking them anywhere near water. However, this bunch of waterproof wonders are right at home capturing subaquatic scenes, and will let you dive as deep as 30 metres to fish out the perfect shot. They're all shock-proof and freeze-proof too, and some are even crush-proof. The fun doesn't stop there, as you'll also find many rugged cameras come packed with features such as GPS location tagging, Wi-Fi connectivity and even action-orientated extras like a compass or altimeter. Pick the right waterproof camera, and image quality will also give a typical land-loving compact a run for its money. The only compromise you'll need to make in exchange for the ability to shoot during some rough and tumble is a below-average zoom range. If you want a camera for holiday with a longer zoom range, take a look at our pick of travel zoom compacts. Alternatively, video might be your main priority, which in that case, take a look at our guide to the best action cameras and best GoPro cameras. So don't let your camera hold you back – all of these waterproof and rugged snappers are cut out for the wet and wild life. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oyYK5qmxghsTkZPPmJ3DbK.jpg Best waterproof cameras in 2019http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/6a5VBct8kSw78h7nAn2oHc.jpg Few rugged cameras can match the TG-5's exceptional build quality and confidence-inspiring rugged feel. Certainly, from our time using it, the TG-5 is built to survive pretty much anything you could throw at it, literally. A chunky, ergonomic design and well-designed controls make the TG-5 a pleasure to use in any weather. Olympus has taken the unusual step of actually dropping the pixel count from 16MP on the TG-4 to 12MP on the TG-5. While resolution drops a bit, it means the pixels are not quite as densely packed in, delivering a better noise performance. The TG-5 borrows the built-in Field Sensor System we've seen on the TG Tracker, which consists of a GPS sensor, pressure, compass and temperature sensor. The data gathered can be displayed with images and videos using the Olympus Image Track app. It also gets the latest TruePic VIII processor found in the E-M1 Mark II, and can now capture 4K video at 30p or high speed footage at 120p in Full HD. Our pick of the bunch. Read our in-depth Olympus Tough TG-5 reviewhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oyYK5qmxghsTkZPPmJ3DbK.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/dpk74ZQG757mwCk374D2z3.jpg The Coolpix W300 comes fully-loaded with a host of features - there's 4K video for starters, a terrific GPS system, interactive world map and Wi-Fi connectivity, plus an altimeter and underwater depth gauge to boot. The W300 also offers a high resolution, 921k dot OLED monitor, but perhaps most impressive of all is that the W300 can function down to a depth of 30 metres - as far as an Advanced Open Water diving certificate will get you. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oyYK5qmxghsTkZPPmJ3DbK.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UvzCDTYscNdGkY2r4haVgX.jpg Panasonic's new Lumix TS7 (called the Lumix FT7 outside the US) is the latest waterproof camera here. As opposed to Olympus, which reduced the resolution of its TG-5, Panasonic has gone the other direction, increasing the pixel count from 16.1MP in the TS5 / FT5 to 20.4MP in the Lumix TS7 / FT7. Lens coverage remains the same as its predecessor, with a 4.6x zoom range that covers 28-128mm, but interestingly, the lens loses its Leica branding. The Lumix TS7 / FT7 does have something unique for a waterproof camera: a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF). The 1,170k-dot, 0.2-inch display might not be the largest out there, but it does offer a useful alternative to shooting with the rear display, especially in bright light, which can make composition tricky. There's lots to like about the Lumix TS7 / FT7, including its excellent tough credentials, but is let down by a sensor that crams too many pixels onto a relatively small area. Read our in-depth Panasonic Lumix TS7 / FT7 reviewhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oyYK5qmxghsTkZPPmJ3DbK.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UXMX3yjAonMhiZ4kgrBnuX.jpg Compared to ultra-rugged competition, the FinePix XP130 doesn't have quite the same credentials. That means that it might not be quite up to some of the more active users, but still more than up to the job of a family beach or skiing holiday. There are a host of fun filters included, and Wi-Fi connectivity, but no GPS. Simple to use, this is a great option if you're after a durable point-and-shoot compact camera for family use, though don't expect too much from it. Read our in-depth Fujifilm FinePix XP130 reviewhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oyYK5qmxghsTkZPPmJ3DbK.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/f8H3K5vA3i2LVuTjTqEoeg.jpg The WG-60 from Ricoh has some pretty strong tough credentials – it's waterproof to a depth of 14m/45.9ft and shockproof from a fall of up to 1.6m/5.2ft, while it should withstand a force of up to 100kg/220lbs. It's also dust-proof, and can operate in temperatures down to -10°C/14°F. The 5x optical zoom has a pretty broad focal zoom range, from 28-140mm, while there are six LED macro lights dotted round the front of the lens barrel to deliver bright and uniformed lighting round your subject – ideal when shooting underwater subjects. The macro lights also provide other useful functions, such as the LED Lighting mode, that uses the lights for adding light to portraits in poor light – it should deliver a more flattering look than the WG-60’s dedicated flash. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oyYK5qmxghsTkZPPmJ3DbK.jpg Also consider...http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/PpucsZUvemnzATmoNW8VUE.jpg Action cameras have overshadowed dedicated waterproof cameras a little over the last few years, but it depends on what you want to shoot. If video's your main priority, then GoPro's Hero7 Black is a brilliant choice. It's our pick of the action cams and can shoot super smooth 4K video at up to 60fps and features a brilliant image stabilization system. Not only can it also take a pretty decent 12MP still photo, it can even shoot raw files as well. 3. Now entering its ninth year, the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year competition is designed to showcase and celebrate all types of food imagery. Last year saw over 8,000 images submitted from photographers in 60 countries, with the winning images from the 25 categories consisting of not only plenty of mouth-watering shots of delicious-looking food, but also a wide variety of subject matter all linked to food and food production, including humanitarian themes, landscapes, portraits and travel. This year sees a total of 21 categories, with two new categories appearing for 2019. This includes the Champagne Taittinger-sponsored Wedding Food Photographer, designed to show how food and feasting play their part in this celebration across the world, while the Food Stylist Award will reward the talent of those who put so much skill into creating styled food photography. Founder and director of the Awards, Caroline Kenyon said: "We can’t wait to see the work of our entrants this year, Every year, there is a new approach, a new angle, the world seen through fresh eyes. "It’s really exciting to see the amount of recognition our winners receive in the media across the world. And incredibly rewarding to hear about our finalists’ amazing success stories that flow from being part of our Awards. That means a huge amount to my team and me." 4. Following Nikon's announcement at CES 2019 of a Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S ultra-wide zoom lens for its Z6 and Z7, the company has revealed that it's working on firmware to add Eye AF to its first full-frame mirrorless cameras. Eye AF is a feature that's impressed us in the likes on Sony's Alpha A7R III and A7 III, and we felt it was something that was missing from the Z6 and Z7, so it's great to see that Nikon is paying attention to user feedback. Nikons says Eye AF, which will see the cameras automatically detect a subject’s eyes to make attaining critical focus easier, is "under development". Along with Eye AF, Nikon has also announced that it's going to be adding support for raw video output via firmware. This feature will work with the ATOMOS Ninja V to output video in raw format, using the ProRes RAW codec. Finally, Nikon is also planning to make the Z6 and Z7 compatible with CFexpress memory cards, which share the same form factor as the XQD memory cards the cameras use. A release date for the new firmware updates is still to be confirmed. Check out all of TechRadar's CES 2019 coverage. 5. With most companies trying to minimize bezels and notches on their smartphones, it’s likely that Apple too will be looking at a way to shrink down the notch on future handsets such as the iPhone 11, and a new tech could help it do so. AMS (an Austrian company which provides Apple with optical sensors for the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone XS range) has announced a new optical sensor that can measure ambient light from behind an OLED screen. It also includes a proximity sensor that works from behind the screen. In the announcement, David Moon, Senior Marketing Manager at AMS, went so far as to say that this tech could allow for “potentially eliminating the bezel entirely.” In Apple’s case that probably won’t happen, since the actual camera lens will still need to be put somewhere and we can’t see Apple opting for a pop-up system. But it could mean a significantly smaller notch, since many of the components wouldn’t need to be housed in it. No guaranteesOf course, just because this technology exists it doesn’t mean Apple will use it. The fact that AMS already supplies camera components to Apple makes it a distinct possibility but far from a done deal. There are any number of reasons Apple might choose not to. Perhaps it has found an alternate solution, or simply has issues with this one. Even if Apple does incorporate this new sensor into its phones, it might not do so for the iPhone 11 range, since it’s possible that this announcement has come too late for Apple to make the necessary changes. Still, it’s a promising sign that the big notch Apple currently relies on won’t be around forever and might not be around for much longer at all. This could be our first look at the iPhone 11Via MacRumors http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/software-news/~4/VXpLrM7JAQ8
  6. I’m lying there, vibrating and arching my back because I’m being poked in it too hard. A man that I don’t know is taking my picture. Yet I still don’t regret what I’m doing. See, before I came to CES 2019, all the writers at TechRadar met to decide what kind of stuff we were going to be checking out. I grabbed the world’s first flexible phone (awesome and terrible in equal measure) and headphones that make swimming easier. I saw another level of virtual reality, but I also had a secret mission. While I was using my Hyperice Vyper vibrating roller (which I love) after a long run before I took a flight to Vegas, I lazily wished I could have someone - or something - to do it for me. Then I remembered that CES is filled with massage chairs, and I felt that the time was right for someone to step up and properly test out as many as he could find. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/XUEtHXb5Q7xmnU8NtLhDT3.gif That's the ol' back being prodded The important thing when signing up for critical missions like this is that you have to have a hook for it - so I decided that I needed to check out the recovery aspects of these very expensive chairs. That’s how I ended up ‘testing’ the Super Nova from Human Touch, a $10,000 chair that was I was lying in only to see how well it helped me recover from my stressful 4.5 mile easy run this morning. As I lay there, taking in the ‘sports massage’ mode, having my butt rubbed by robot hands, I was overcome with a sense of recovery, a feeling that I was definitely an athlete doing the best for his body. It’s hard to not feel elite when you’re relaxing along to the soothing sounds of thunderstorms from the high-end Altec Lansing speakers in the headrest, or while your arms are being gently pressed and your circulation stimulated - because blood is important for running. (It also crushed my Garmin watch into my arm a little and set off the GPS mode. This chair was so advanced it knew to prep me for my next run by removing the energy it would take me press another button before I worked out again). Watch my feet, watch my feetThe feet are also important for my favored form of exercise, and the small motors caressing my tired tootsies with a little bit of heat made me more willing to go for a long, strenuous run the next day. Definitely. I won’t lie: the neck and back massage was a little on the painful side as it arched my back upwards in front of around 10 people who had gathered to watch a top-level sportsman clearly getting a recovery massage and in no way just having a lovely rub down on an expensive chair while pretending he was doing it for work. The ironic thing: it didn’t leave my legs feeling any more rejuvenated, as the calf rubbing wasn’t all that strong - my Hyperice roller is, annoyingly, far better at the job. So even if I did feel the need to spend this much money on a chair, it wouldn’t actually be the best thing to help me recover. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/gB2YqbLKFBAYErZZHBkQu.jpg This is the fancy remote control. I did nothing with it beyond take a picture. Despite doing this just to get free massages despite my valiant efforts to help find my readers the next wave of wellness tech to help runners and other extreme athletes recover quicker, I didn't quite get the recovery I needed. I did feel a lot more bouncy and free after the run though, my aches and pains dissipated by the ease with which I was able to change the music I was listening to… or the actual massage, possibly, I don’t know. Oh, and I definitely didn’t forget to try the fact that the Super Nova chair is Alexa-enabled, so you don’t even need to press anything to start the massage or change the music… nope, definitely tried that out and didn’t spend the whole time getting a lovely, relaxing robo-rub. Nope. Not at all. Stay tuned to see if I can plunder the halls of this Las Vegas convention, finding the perfect massage chair that you should buy if you run maybe once or twice a year. We all need to recover, after all… Gareth Beavis is TechRadar's Running Man of Tech, testing the latest in fitness technology in a never-ending quest to run further and faster and bringing you the results in this column. If you want to say hi, he's @superbeav on TwitterYou can see his stumblings on StravaAnd for more data, follow him on SmashrunAnd if you want to get the full lowdown on the latest and greatest running tech, read the rest of the Running Man of Tech story herehttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/software-news/~4/d_Mnf8vmwGM
  7. Reaching emergencies in time to save lives isn't always a matter of sheer power – sometimes tough terrain means that even the most capable wheeled vehicles simply can't get through. At CES 2019, Hyundai showed off a new concept vehicle that could make it easier to reach victims of natural disasters: a 'walking car', which uses articulated legs to navigate off-road following floods, fires and earthquakes. The vehicle, named Elevate, combines tech from electric cars and quadruped robots (like Boston Dynamics' SpotMini). Each of its legs is also equipped with a wheel, enabling it to either drive or walk to its destination – or both. Small steps or giant leapsWhen the car is in drive mode, the legs are folded up and power to the joints is cut to extend battery life. However, when the going gets tough, it can adopt either a reptilian or mammalian gait, and leap across five-foot gaps. That's not something you could say of your typical 4x4. "When a tsunami or earthquake hits, current rescue vehicles can only deliver first responders to the edge of the debris field. They have to go the rest of the way by foot. Elevate can drive to the scene and climb right over flood debris or crumbled concrete," said John Suh, vice president and head of Hyundai's Center for Robotic-Augmented Design in Living Experiences (CRADLE). http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/wGP2eDcPdUAEDQDWjjhq8W.jpg It's not just for emergencies, though; if Elevate could be driven autonomously, it could improve the lives of wheelchair users without access to a stair ramp, climbing to their front door so they can manoeuvre their chair straight in. We might not see Elevate attending to natural disasters or roaming the streets imminently, but it's not just for show; Hyundai has been working on the concept with industrial design consultancy Sundberg-Ferar for almost three years. “Imagine a car stranded in a snow ditch just 10 feet off the highway being able to walk or climb over the treacherous terrain, back to the road potentially saving its injured passengers," said said David Byron, design manager at Sundberg-Ferar. "[T]his is the future of vehicular mobility.” Check out all of TechRadar's CES 2019 coverage. 8. Investing in cloud early has certainly paid off for Amazon, Microsoft and Google. According to Right Scale’s 2018 State of the Cloud report, Amazon’s AWS controlled 65 per cent of the public cloud market with Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform gaining ground steadily. However, what about the niche players in the cloud market such as IBM, Alibaba and Oracle? TechRadar Pro spoke with Unitas Global’s Chief Strategy Officer Francesco Paola to learn how he thinks the war for control of the cloud will shape up in 2019. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UaFuUvFHD33sqtSyfAuvPh.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/nBK4qtUpNh6swDeeqnKzRG.jpg Francesco Paola, Chief Strategy Officer at Unitas Global Also check out the best cloud serviceshttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/software-news/~4/UzQty1oAIL0
  9. Whether you’re a serious athlete, or just trying to get back in shape for the new year, having the right pair of headphones is going to make the difference between a great run and gruelling slog. Sportswear brand Under Armour has now ventured into the world of wearable audio tech, with its new true wireless FLASH headphones, which it says are designed “by runners, for runners”. Unveiled at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, the in-ear headphones are fully cordless, and connect automatically to your smartphone via Bluetooth after you have initially set them up. So you don’t have to waste any time untangling cords or struggling to connect to your phone. With an IPX7 water-resistance rating, the FLASH true wireless in-ears should be perfect for running in the rain (as well as sweaty workout sessions), and five hours of battery life makes them ideal for life on the go. They also come with a hard-wearing charging case, which carries 20 hours' worth of charging power. Best true wireless earbuds: the best truly wireless Apple AirPod alternatives aroundhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/e9zjmxTmHGd23R3G5KbNHC.jpg A personal trainer in your earsOne attractive feature is the integration with UA’s MapMyRun app, which means you can get real time in-ear coaching, taking your performance to the next level. We expect good sound quality, considering the earphones are engineered by audio tech company JBL, with 5.8mm drivers designed to pump out powerful bass. The FLASH true wireless in-ears also feature JBL’s ‘Bionic Hearing’ tech, which allows you to hear your surroundings via two sound technologies: TalkThru, and Ambient Aware. UA says that, “with TalkThru Technology, music is lowered an speech is amplified by a microphone with a touch of a button, making it easy to chat with a workout partner or trainer between sets”. Ambient Aware mode, on the other hand, amplifies background noise from cars, cyclists, or passersby while still playing your music – so you can workout safely without sacrificing your killer playlist. The UA True Wireless FLASH earphones are available to buy in the US for $169, which includes free 12-month MapMyRun Premium membership (valued at $29.99). This works out at around £130 / AU$240, though there's no word yet on whether they will be available to purchase outside the US. Check out all of TechRadar's CES 2019 coverage. 10. What next for Rockstar Games? The famed GTA developer is currently drowning in Game of the Year awards and blockbuster sales for Red Dead Redemption 2, the dynamic open-world Western that has captured the industry like few games in recent memory. Never content to rest on its laurels though, various Rockstar studios worldwide are currently on the lookout for new hirings to help advance its technical prowess to new heights – specifically for facial animation and MoCap (motion capture), which is proving increasingly crucial for the engaging, photorealistic animation Rockstar is striving for in its games. Face the futureAs spotted by GearNuke, Rockstar New York is currently hiring for a Technical Face Developer and MoCap Tools developer for "future titles", while Rockstar Toronto have a listing for a Senior Technical Artist specifically to "improve facial animation tracking". Rockstar India is also advertising positions for a Facial Animator and Motion Capture Animator. Given the usual lead time on Rockstar's game development – there were 10 years between Red Dead Redemption and its sequel – it's likely these positions are for games on next-generation consoles. So is it GTA VI? Red Dead Redemption 3? The latest Red Dead game is going to keep us busy for a while, but if we know anything about Rockstar, it's that they'll be looking to outdo themselves next around. 11. HTC has announced a barrage of new products at CES 2019. New this year are the HTC Vive Pro Eye eye-tracking hardware, Viveport Infinity games pass subscription, Vive Reality experience and Cosmos VR headset. First up, HTC is bringing eye tracking to its VR headset family with the new HTC Vive Pro Eye. According Dan O'Brien, general manager of HTC America, the addition of eye-tracking will enable foveated rendering - a feature on other VR headsets that enables reduced processing and clearer images that focus on the areas where you're looking. This was presented as more of a professional tool, highlighting how BMW is using it to test where users look when checking out a 'new' car in VR, but consumers will be more interested in what's coming next. Expanding the reach of Vive into the CosmosWhile HTC didn't provide many details around its, arguably, biggest announcement, HTC Cosmos is its new VR headset that will go beyond the power of PC. "What VR intenders say about VR today is that it's too difficult to use, too difficult to set up, that they couldn’t take with them. [in fact] 85% of intenders believe that ease of set up is critical part of decision, want to address that," O'Brien said. "Offering a headset that is quick and easy to set up and can be taken on the go. Built with comfort in mind, the Cosmos headset has lighter materials, it's easier of set up and can be used to access your virtual world whenever your life." The Cosmos has no external tracking tech which will, according to HTC, allow you to move between real and virtual worlds more easily. More interestingly, HTC says that it can be powered by a gaming PC, and "powered by more than that," with a picture of a smartphone inside the headset but not actually mentioned on stage. "There's more hidden under the hood, more to discuss in the coming months with future form factors and functions," O'Brien said. "Our promise is to always improve the hardware of the Cosmos; [and improve] the capabilities and meet demands of future VR users and the users of today. We'll have more to share in the coming months." A whole new worldHTC also gave updates on its Viveport Platform, the thing that lives inside the headset to allow users to discover new content. HTC is claiming that it's added over 1,000 titles since the last CES but not all these games are available to all users - that's why Vive is introducing Viveport Infinity - described as 'the Netflix of VR'. It's an expansion of the Viveport program that will give users access to over 500 games for one set price, although frustratingly that price wasn't given. Viveport Infinity will work across all HTC platforms including the Wave, HTC Vive and Vive Pro as well as any of Oculus' platfroms. Vive Reality, also announced at HTC's keynote, will be the new glue that holds the platform together. From load-up of Home to the time you shut the headset down for the night, Vive Reality will be the new Vive experience. A key component to Vive Reality is Origin, a sort of hub overworld that will be the first place you go to when you put on the headset. It's the place you'll find new content and provide a space to hang out with your friends. Developing... Check out all of TechRadar's CES 2019 coverage. 12. Update: We have even more concrete details on the new TCL 8K Roku TV, the X10 QLED. We've added them below and where to buy the new 6-Series 4KTV starting today. The TCL Roku TV 8-Series is the best evidence that 8K resolutions are here in 2019, with the affordable television manufacturer demoing its first 8KTVs at CES 2019. The TCL X10 QLED is its flagship 8KTV, part of the new 8-Series, and it'll come in big screen sizes, 75 inches and larger, according to the Chinese TV manufacturer. In addition to the intuitive Roku TV interface we have lauded in the past, it'll support Android TV with the Google Assistant built-in, Amazon Alexa, and its own AI-powered software. Dubbed TCL AI-IN, the new platform will bring up the right sports game with your favorite team when you command it to "turn on the football game." Granted, you almost certainly don't have 8K content for a television like this to take advantage of the 7,680 x 4,320 (33.2 megapixels). So TCL is touting the lead feature of its Roku TV 8-Series like this: "upscaling performance to skillfully convert today’s 4K and full HD resolution content that delivers a new sense of depth and clarity." It'll also be future-proofed for when 8K resolutions do become mainstream, with the company noting that it'll support for the latest HDMI standards. This probably means HDMI 2.1, which we're expecting to see across the board on new 4KTVs at CES this week. The TCL X10 Quantum Dot display supports a wide color gamut display, approaching 100% of the DCI-P3 color space coverage, Dolby Vision, and the ultra-contrast control zones we've seen on TCL's higher-end 6-Series televisions. It has a theater-level soundbar from Onkyo with Dolby Atmos, which may mean you won't need a separate soundbar solution. Yet it'll remain simplistic design, says TCL, with its thinnest point being 14.5mm. It's one of the thinnest 75-inch direct backlight products in the industry, reducing optical distance to 4mm. TCL has yet to announce the TCL X10 QLED price. And given the fact that its 8-Series TV sizes are a vague "75 inches and larger," we may have to wait closer to its 2nd Half of 2019 release before before we know how much it'll cost. 75-inch TLC Roku TV 6-seriesThe TCL Roku TV 6-Series is also getting a big upgrade in terms of size. This HDR-equipped 4KTV is going to stretch to 75 inches a few months after maxing out at 55 and 65 inches. We really liked the 6-Series, enough to give it 4.5/5 stars and out Great Value badge. However, you'll be paying a higher price for the larger 75-inch set. It'll cost less than $1,800 through Best Buy starting today, according to the company. Other retailers will get it in the coming weeks. By comparison, the 55-inch TCL Roku TV 6-Series costs $599.99 right now, while the 65-inch set jumps to $969.99. These prices were a bit lower during Black Friday and Cyber Monday – and we'd wager they'll drop in price at various retailers as TCL's newer TV sizes and resolutions take hold (see Amazon Prime Day 2019). Without a doubt, the 75-inch 6-Series is TCL's most expensive television yet, at least until that 8-Series 8KTV launches in the second half of 2019. Want more CES 2019 highlights? 15. Amazon's Alexa smart assistant could soon be a core feature for many new cars, with Qualcomm announcing a partnership with the retail giant to bring Alexa to vehicles during CES 2019. Qualcomm is harnessing the Alexa technology to provide "intuitive voice-based experiences, such as in-car virtual assistance and natural interactions between the vehicle and driver." As well as hopefully making speaking to your car easier, the partnership will also bring Amazon Music, Prime Video, Fire TV and Audible to vehicles as well, opening up new infotainment options - all which can be controlled with voice. 16. Panasonic has unveiled two high-spec new Blu-ray players at CES 2019, the DP-UB150 and the DP-UB450. Both players support the latest version of HDR, HDR10+, which allows the brightness of the picture to be adjusted on a frame-by-frame basis, which the company claims will to a more detailed image than ever before. The more expensive UB450 also supports Dolby Vision, while both players can passthrough Dolby Atmos via a third party sound system or soundbar, making for a totally immersive cinematic experience – if you have the right kit, that is. Right now, prices and availability for both Blu-ray players is still to be confirmed. 17. Legendary audio tech company Technics has returned to the world of DJ turntables after nine long years in the wilderness, with the launch of the new SL-1200 MK7 at CES 2019 in Las Vegas. Technics launched the SL-1200 turntable series way back in the 1970's, which has been regarded as an industry standard for professional (and bedroom) DJs ever since. As well as the reliability and robust design of its predecessors, the new turntable boasts reverse playback, a core-less direct drive motor to reduce irregularity to the rotation, and motor control technology to make sure the decks respond to scratching. Best turntables 2019: the best record players for any budgetRetro, but make it modernLike other Technics turntables, the SL-1200 MK7 features a lightweight S-shaped tonearm, and comes with gold-plated phono cables and a detachable power cable. 18. Hear the name Technics and you'll probably jump to thinking about the brand's top-notch turntables. But at CES 2019 the company is pushing the sounds straight into your ears with its new over-ear headphones, the Technics EAH-F70N and EAH-F50B. Suitable for high-resolution audio playback thanks to support for LDAC and apt-X HD standards, both make use of 40mm dynamic tuned to maximise bass impact, "realistic dynamics" and "spatial ambience". The F70Ns are the more premium cans however, taking advantage of a "Hybrid Active Noice Cancelling" feature, which makes use of mics located both on the exterior of the headphones and near to the driver to offer three different levels of ambient noice cancellation. It also has an "Ambient Sound Enhancer" which can be activated to let exterior sounds (such as train station announcements) pierce through your tunes on demand, making sure you're aware of your surroundings when required, too. Smart sensorsMade from aluminium, each set of headphones also comes equipped with smart sensors that know when you're wearing the cans, pausing playback when you take them off and resuming the tunes when you pop them back onto your head. Connecting over Bluetooth, you'll get 20 hours of playback from the F70N and 35 hours of playback from the F50B from a four hour charge. Both also come with a cable to plug your playback device in when your battery runs dry. No word yet on release date or pricing details, but we'll be sure to update this story once we've got it. 19. New automotive platforms launched at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada brings a smart AI and support for up to seven screens for future vehicles. Qualcomm's third generation Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platforms bring a host of new features to cars, with multiple displays being just one of those. The new platforms support multiple displays throughout vehicles, including ultra-wide panoramic displays, reconfigurable 3-D digital instrument clusters, augmented reality heads-up display (HUD) and ultra-HD media streaming. Augmented reality is also coming to navigation thanks to the new platform, and Qualcomm says it also opens up "lane-level navigation with visual aid positioning." In short, navigation should get more accurate, clearer and more visually appealing. Smarts and soundYou can also expect to see more intuitive AI in future vehicles, with visual assistants improving safety, working towards autonomy and making it easier for you to communicate with your car. Your driving playlist could well get an upgrade too, with the new platforms offering multi-zone, luxury Hi-Fi sound. 20. Your car's sat-nav system may be about to get a whole lot smarter follow a new release by HERE Technologies at CES 2019. The company has announced the launch of HERE Navigation on Demand, which it says offers carmakers an easy way to create intelligent, intuitive and engaging in-car experiences. HERE, which says its technology is already embedded into more than 100 million vehicles worldwide, claims the new launch will provide carmakers with a simple, "one-stop" solution that works off the shelf, and is able to scale without incurring huge costs. The company has already announced a partnership with Amazon that will see Alexa integrated into Navigation on Demand, allowing more in-depth voice direction. Navigation on demandHERE says that Navigation On Demand is the world's first SaaS navigation and connected service solution for business - or as they put it, Navigation as a Service (NaaS). This allows the service to combine the benefits of embedded navigation with the ease of use of existing mobile and smartphone mapping tools. As for the carmakers, the new platform means they can simplify their infotainment supply chain and development process, as well as reducing development and other material costs. Selecting such a "one-stop" solution also means that carmakers can minimise the risks of feature-loss in new vehicles, as well as simplifying software update challenges for existing models. “HERE Navigation On Demand is the reinvention of in-car navigation for the era of the connected vehicle,” said Edzard Overbeek, CEO of HERE Technologies. “Our solution gives automakers the agility and flexibility they need to deliver the most competitive navigation experiences on the market. Moreover, it provides them the freedom to create their own business models that support their unique strategies.” Check out all of TechRadar's CES 2019 coverage. 21. At the PUBG Mobile Star Challenge tournament, Tencent Games announced its collaboration with the team RE_Games for the remake of Resident Evil 2. Since then, there have been rumors claiming that the game will introduce zombies, but we haven’t seen anything coming from the makers yet. Yes, we did see a tweet and a video on the official Twitter handle of the game. Some players spotted black liquid (supposedly zombie blood) on floors with foot stains in Erangel map. After which, recently some players saw dead zombies lying at the isolated islands below Military Base area in Erangel (see cover image). http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/hkZhGig8owo4X56osaBdnF.jpg While we doubt any possibility of zombies against real players, it’s highly possible that we might see new Resident Evil themed in-game merchandise and more. We have seen similar in-match elements in the game previously during Halloween, where you could kill players using a special AKM to turn them into scarecrows. Even in Vikendi, players can collect bells to redeem special items during the holiday season. Additionally, the latest rumors suggest that the upcoming 0.10.5 update will bring a new Zombie Mode, a new death cam feature and new weapons and vehicles. It is also speculated that the update might arrive sometime between January 18 to 20. 22. Ok, so Halloween may be past us for now, but that's no reason to miss out on the best and greatest horror video games out there. There's a glut of scary movies to make you jump out of your seats – just check the list in our best horror movies guide – but video games can go that extra distance by making those scares truly interactive. When you're the one holding the controller and making the choices that could mean life or death, every moment is tense and significant. It's a lot harder to laugh at on-screen characters making stupid and clichéd decisions when you're the one making them. We've gotten far better at scaring ourselves, while games have matured beyond simple gore and jump scares. Though these elements still play an important role in the genre, our approach to horror has more nuance than ever. What follows is our choice of the 13 best horror games that you can play on PC and consoles today, from recent AAA games to older PC classics. Go ahead and spook yourselves silly. Do you just want to kick back and watch a horror movie instead? Here's our list of the 13 best horror movies.Or find a screen to do your scares justice with our list of the best gaming monitors 2018We've all watched a teen slasher movie at some point (it's hard to escape them) but it's a genre that's surprisingly uncommon in the gaming world. Probably because it'd be so hard to get it right. Fortunately, Until Dawn is a game that succeeds in combining slasher movie tropes with the video game format. This PS4 exclusive game follows a group of teenagers going on a trip to a remote cabin in the mountains where, shockingly, there's a frightening presence interested in picking them off one by one. It's up to you to make decisions for the characters in the game which means whether or not they live or die is entirely down to you. Make the wrong decision and your favorite could meet a very grizzly end. Until Dawn is a great horror game because, although it'll genuinely scare you, you get a sense it's having a lot of fun doing it. Until Dawn can be played now on PlayStation 4 The Evil Within series comes from the mind behind Resident Evil, Shinji Mikami – and if that doesn't give you reason enough to pick it up, we're not sure what will. This is a third-person survival horror that'll pull you into a nightmarish world populated by grotesque and frightening enemies. A sequel, The Evil Within 2, screamed onto shelves in 2017 in time for Halloween, with lead Sebastian Castanellos once again taking on dark powers beyond his understanding in the warped reality of STEM. In some ways it's regular horror fare: a seemingly idyllic town, dark supernatural forces, and a lost little girl to up the ante. But the way it blends classic horror stalking with more modern action elements – with a real sense of powerlessness to fuel the ongoing terror – make this a must-play for fans of the genre. You can play The Evil Within 2 on PS4, Xbox One, and Windows. Dead By Daylight stands out in this list by being a horror multiplayer experience: one where a single player takes on the role of a savage serial killer while four others flee for their lives. It's a thrilling twist on usual PvP combat, with a host of original characters each with their own advantages in play as either a Survivor or Killer. There are plenty of tricks and strategies to execute in each map, with a character progression system that should keep you coming back. For the horror junkies out there, you can also unlock or download characters from Saw, A Nightmare on Elm Street, or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. You can play Dead By Daylight on PS4, Xbox One, and Windows. Few mediums are as perfectly suited to horror as VR. The full-body immersion and restrictive viewing angles mean you're never quite sure what's around you, and make jump scares or surreal monsters all that more affecting. The Persistence is a smart VR horror roguelike set in a monster-ridden spaceship. Your vessel has been pulled into the orbit of a black hole, and its interference is constantly jumbling up the layout of the ship, using procedurally generated levels to ensure you never know what's going to be around each corner. To top it all off, every time you die you're transferred into a new clone of yourself – which would be handy if the other clones weren't turning into massive misshapen monsters looking to murder you. An innovative take on VR gaming that isn't afraid to, you know, make you afraid. You can play The Persistence on PSVR. Little Nightmares is a great example of a game that manages to inspire fear and disgust without using traditional blood and gore. The game puts you in control of a young girl called Six and has you navigate a a frightening world that's far too big for her, populated by a wide array of giant and grotesque creatues. You don't have to fight these creatures, you just have to sneak around world and hide to get past them in what is absolutely a platforming puzzle game. But Little Nightmares is a great horror game in that it perfectly creates a feeling of helplessness while making it clear that you're capable of escaping. It takes familiar and domestic areas of the home that should be comforting and turns them on their head by making them repulsive and unsafe. Little Nightmares can be played now on PC, Xbox One and PS4 Dead Space, published by EA and developed by Visceral Games, is among the contemporary classic horror games. The story, first set on an abandoned space vessel (duh), takes terrifying twists and turns – most of which involving zombified aliens waiting around said turns. Following the formula established by Ridley Scott's classic "Alien" certainly helped – besides, the first Alien game to pull it off didn't release for another few years. (See all about that one in a few slides.) All in all, Dead Space was one of the pioneering horror games of the modern era, inspiring a renaissance in the genre that hasn't yet died down. That comes down to some simple tenants: a compelling story, believable visuals and proper pacing. And while we recommend the first game for the purest horror experience, you're bound to get a kick out of its two mainline sequels too. You can play Dead Space on Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows. Resident Evil 7 was a breath of fresh air for an increasingly stale series, bringing in a modern understanding of both horror movies and games while managing to retain that very distinct Resident Evil feel. By moving the perspective from third to first person it also made the fear feel closer and more immediate, while leading the way to include a genuinely frightening VR experience to the game. With a great story and tight gameplay, Resident Evil 7 was the addition to the horror series we all wanted and feared we wouldn't get. The success of the game, along with the news of an upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake, is enough to make us think Capcom will be giving us scares for a good while yet. You can play Resident Evil on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 – or Playstation VR. Released in mid-2012, Slender is based around long pauses followed by sudden movements that are totally unexpected. In other words: jump scares. Slender is essentially a horror movie in video game form. It's a bit cheap, but boy does it work. Your mission is simple: Don't get killed, collect the eight pieces of a book, and run. The 'thing' pursuing you – directly inspired by the popular Slender Man meme – is a faceless, eerily lanky man in a pinstriped suit. Basically, he's the perfect horror game villain. The game relies heavily around the player having virtually no resources beyond a flashlight and the ability to jog. Naturally, both of which are limited for obvious reasons, making escape all the more difficult. Overall, Slender is a fun, not-so-clever horror game that is guaranteed to scare you senseless nevertheless. You can play Slender: The Eight Pages on Windows and OS X. Of the countless games to use this precious creative license over the years, developer Creative Assembly is the first to actually create a game that lives up to it. The game takes place 15 years following the events of the 1979 Ridley Scott film, putting players into the space boots of Ellen Ripley's daughter, Amanda Ripley. Taking on a first-person perspective and squaring you off with a single xenomorph hunting you across a vast space station in darkness, Isolation nails what it felt like watching the film for the first time. The vibe is so much of what makes an amazing horror game, and Isolation feels as if you're playing through the movie. Throw in the excruciatingly-clever artificial intelligence afforded to the alien, along with an absolutely gripping virtual reality experiment, and you have the trappings of a modern horror classic. You can play Alien: Isolation on Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, Windows, OS X and Linux. Outlast and Outlast 2, developed by Red Barrels Studio, are now must-plays in the horror genre. Both games put players in control of investigative journalists but while the first is set in an asylum for the insane, the sequel takes place in the much more open location of a dilapidated rural part of Northern Arizona. What helps make the Outlast games, well, last is that they follow a cardinal rule of horror games: don't empower your players too much, otherwise it's no longer a horror game. Offering a refreshing break from zombies and aliens, Outlast and its sequel are fine games to play if you want a longer – and arguably scarier – break from your average gun-toting jump scare-fest. You can play Outlast and Outlast 2 on Xbox One, PS4, Windows, OS X and Linux. While Left 4 Dead came first, the second version saw Valve nail the vision of its original creators, Turtle Rock Studios. Set in a world overrun by zombies, the game follows four characters in their mission to survive through several cooperative and competitive online modes, which – in conjunction with mods on PC – makes for a veritable ton of replayability. Our friends at PC Gamer have ranked it among their top FPS games of all time. We're pretty certain that most PC players would agree with that. The game was originally banned in Australia due to its graphic content: a de facto seal of approval, if you will. The ban has since been lifted, and so lovers of hardcore horror games are sure to rejoice in its gross, lengthy scenes of devastation and destruction worldwide. You can play Left 4 Dead 2 on Xbox 360, Windows, OS X and Linux. Five Nights at Freddy's is – undoubtedly – a different kind of horror game. With a premise seeing players "surviving" a night in a kid-themed pizza parlor, it's unlike almost anything else in the genre. However, it's a surprisingly fun game to play, once you can get past the terrifying visage of an animatronic teddy bear guitarist come to life in the dead of night. Generally, players combat these twisted, possessed figures with security cameras – what? Poltergeists don't like leaving evidence. The game is the work of Scott Cawthon, an independent developer, who released it in 2014. Since then, there have been three more direct sequels, all of which have received positive reviews. Talk about staying power. You can play Five Nights at Freddy's on Windows, iOS and Android. SOMA, released in 2015 by Amnesia developer Frictional Games, is a thoughtful – and thought-provoking – game that could easily be considered an interactive film. Are you sensing a theme here at all? The game contains neither zombies nor aliens, but instead a shift between 2015 and 2104, when humans have been wiped out by a comet and what's left of humanity must fight to survive underwater in an abandoned research facility gone rogue. While SOMA may not be as outright scary as, say, Amnesia, it is still a fantastic game, thanks to its brooding atmosphere, surprisingly fresh subject matter (for horror games) and incredible audio design. You can play SOMA on PS4, Windows, OS X and Linux. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/software-news/~4/8pHaz8wu-7s
  23. While we can’t say we didn’t see this coming, we’re still glad Nvidia has finally introduced its mid-range Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card. First up we’re happy to say this Turing GPU won’t cost you an arm and leg, the RTX 2060 will only cost $349 (about £270, AU$490). There isn’t any funny price distinction between Nvidia’s own Founders Edition or third-party cards this year, either. While this all still makes the RTX 2060 more expensive than the $299 (£249, AU$499) Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, but it’s not as exponentially expensive as the RTX 2070 or RTX 2080. Nvidia didn't announce any specific specifications for its new mid-range GPU, but it promised that it would be more powerful than even an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. Additionally, Team Green showed off how the RTX 2060 was capable of playing Battlefield V at Ultra settings and RTX On at well above 60 fps thanks to DLSS also being enabled. Stay tuned for more, as we’ll soon have a full review on this most anticipated mid-range graphics card. Want more CES 2019 highlights? Mad Max: Fury Roadhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/aXAhQutuJUeLyBpWkViUNL.jpg The world has gone to hell following a cataclysmic event, plunging headfirst into madness and chaos. All that remains is a wasteland governed by tyrannical men, populated by downtrodden hordes, and hopefully, rescued by mythical heroes. Immortan Joe (Keays-Byrne) rules with an iron fist, doling out meagre amounts of water to the masses, while keeping a stable of wives for himself to breed future warlords. His most trusted Imperator Furiosa (Theron) has betrayed him and freed these women from their lives of sexual slavery. Now, the chase is on, as Immortan Joe and his party of warboys set out to retrieve their "property". If Furiosa and co. are to succeed, they’ll need the help of Max Rockatansky (Hardy), a wandering road warrior in search of a cause. Director George Miller has crafted the most dynamic, vibrant and sensational action blockbuster of the decade with Fury Road. it’s an inventive, high-octane kick in the guts to a film industry that has played it safe for far too long. The chases and stunts in this film are unparalleled. Best of all, the film works as a powerful rebuttal to patriarchy. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), into Nazi-occupied France with one very specific goal: to kill and scalp as many Nazis as humanly possible. By chance, an opportunity arises that would place all of Germany's top brass (including Adolf Hitler himself) at the premiere of a Nazi propaganda film, leading the Basterds and a vengeance-minded theatre owner (Mélanie Laurent) to enact plan that could potentially end the war entirely. Portman plays Mathilda, a young girl who takes refuge with a quiet, lonely hitman named Leon (Jean Reno) after her entire family is slaughtered by a group of crooked cops (led by an unhinged Gary Oldman). Though Mathilda is an adolescent, she hopes that Leon will teach her to be a hitman like him, so that she can exact vengeance on the men who killed her little brother. While it's occasionally violent, Leon: The Professional is nevertheless a moving story of two people who become a family despite being from completely difference worlds. Now, Jimmy must pay Pando back by the end of the week, or disappear forever like his older brother. Meanwhile, a young country girl named Alex (Byrne) finds herself caught up in Jimmy's troubles. A smash hit at the time of its release, Two Hands is Australia's answer to Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Available on Kanopy (requires an eligible library membership) Animal Kingdomhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/JVNkrA7rCXYhJH3qAukwAg.jpg Feeling like a Greek tragedy set in Melbourne's criminal underworld, Animal Kingdom is a masterful film about a crime family (led by the astonishing Jacki Weaver) that begins to fall apart during an increasingly violent war with the police. Orphaned 17-year-old Joshua (James Frecheville) joins the family right around this tumultuous time, and must find a way to navigate both the family and a nosy detective (Guy Pearce) while steering clear of his dangerous uncle, Andrew (Ben Mendelsohn). Living on the streets of Calcutta for years, thousands of kilometres from home, the boy is eventually adopted by an Australian couple (played by Nicole Kidman and David Wenham) who raise the child in their home country. Unable to shake the mother and brother he was separated from, a college-aged Saroo is determined to find his family once again, despite having only a vague memory of his former home. Incredibly powerful, Lion's ending is absolutely guaranteed to turn you into a blubbering mess. Available on SBS On Demand What's Eating Gilbert Grape?http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/sFnQRSZqqAoCVyFwZFYBHJ.jpg Following the death of his father, Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp) is left to look after his mentally-challenged brother (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his morbidly-obese mother (Darlene Cates). Though his future looks pretty grim, Gilbert's outlook on life begins to change when he meets and falls for a young woman (Juliette Lewis) who's new in town. Though he's been incredible in countless films, Leonardo DiCaprio has never been better than in What's Eating Gilbert Grape – it's the kind of astounding performance that will be studied in acting schools for decades to come. Depp also does a terrific job in a subtle and understated performance. A must-see. Available on SBS On Demand Assault on Precinct 13http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/9Z88mN6rMNiNMpW7tQ2MBM.jpg John Carpenter's loose remake of Rio Bravo is a masterclass in intensity and edge-of-your-seat thrills. This 1970s thriller sees an under-staffed police station fend off a siege from a huge gang that's trying to break in and kill one of its enemies. Carpenter fans will notice early signs of the dark, relentless action and style that would come in later films like Escape From New York, The Fog and The Thing. A true classic that's infinitely superior to its own remake, which would come decades later. Available on SBS On Demand The Texas Chain Saw Massacrehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/r7tnbrzv4oVx3sBMXW6mqF.jpg One of the most notorious horror movies of all time, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has garnered a well-deserved reputation as one of the best examples of pure horror ever committed to celluloid. It's been named one of the 250 best films of all time by the British Film Institute's Sight & Sound magazine, and a print of the film is even part of New York City's Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection. This drive-in classic sees a group of youngsters terrorised by a family of redneck cannibals, in particular, by a heavyset, chainsaw-wielding madman known as Leatherface. The fact that this film was shot on a shoestring budget with (mostly) first-time actors just makes the whole thing feel more terrifyingly real. Available on SBS On Demand Halloweenhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/RxFTZzJkaogU83DJpMR9F5.jpg Of course we have to start by picking the definitive movie to watch this time of year, John Carpenter's Halloween. Though it didn't create the American slasher sub-genre (that honour goes to Bob Clark's holiday horror, Black Christmas), Halloween was the first hugely successful movie of its kind, spawning several sequels and countless imitators. The film sees escaped mental patient Michael Myers stalk and kill a number of babysitting teens on Halloween night. Will fresh-faced teen Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) be able to survive this night of terror? Watch Halloween on SBS On Demand Lost Highwayhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/NFQAaEihEiCXP5J8cYSkJW.jpg One of David Lynch's most mind-bending thrillers, Lost Highway sees a saxophonist (Bill Pullman) framed for the murder of his wife (Patricia Arquette) and sent to prison. In true Lynchian style, things get incredibly weird, with the man inexplicably turning into a different person (Balthazar Getty) after a violent encounter, eventually leading to a new life as a mechanic. Though he may be a new man (literally), it's not long before his old life catches up to him. With a killer industrial soundtrack produced by Trent Reznor that features Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, The Smashing Pumpkins, David Bowie and, of course, Nine Inch Nails, Lost Highway is dark, twisted thriller that you won't soon forget. Available on SBS On Demand Hunt for the Wilderpeoplehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/kPCcYg6oET3wBEah6FBVSg.jpg An absolutely delightful comedy from New Zealand, Hunt for the Wilderpeople sees young city kid Ricky (Julian Dennison) find a reasonably good life with Bella (Rima Te Wiata) and her grumpy husband, Hec (Sam Neill) on a farm after years of being rejected from various foster homes. When Bella suddenly dies, Child Services announces its intention to move Ricky yet again, causing him to run away from home, prompting Hec to go after him. Things get carried away, and soon a nation-wide manhunt is under way to retrieve the pair. Though the pair don't get along initially, the experience causes them to bond, forcing them to hide out in the bush while the authorities search for them. Directed by the hilarious Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a warm and funny film that's sure to work its way into your heart. Available on Kanopy (requires an eligible library membership) The Castlehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/XuLtFV4rM4xTZe3ShJ6pvG.jpg A true Australian classic, The Castle is a hilarious and heartwarming comedy for the whole family. Upon learning that his family must give up their home so that the local airport can build an extension, Darryl Kerrigan (Michael Caton) takes the fight to court in an effort to stay put. Why? Because a man's home is his castle, of course! Funny and quotable in a way that will ring true for practically every Aussie household, The Castle is impossible to dislike. 25. CES 2019 is packed wall to wall with laptops, but it's not every day that we see a workstation-class laptop like the Asus StudioBook S. Packed with Intel Xeon processors and Nvidia Quadro P3200 graphics – along with up to 64GB of RAM and 4TB of SSD storage, the StudioBook S packs enough raw horsepower to please content creators and other professionals alike. Asus was able to cram this serious horsepower behind a 17-inch display, in a 15-inch chassis. Measuring just 0.72 inches (18.29 mm) thick and weighing just 5.27 pounds (2.39 kg), it's a powerful workstation that you can take on the go. And, the chassis isn't just small – it's attractive too. The powerful hardware is wrapped in a Turquoise Grey aluminum finish, so you can get some work done on a laptop you won't be ashamed to carry around with you. If you need a portable workstation, you can pick the Asus StudioBook up soon, but Asus hasn't shared the specific release date or pricing. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/AZWkbL3AWASk3X3k4tV7Mk.jpg Who is it for? While Asus hasn't shared specific pricing information, it's safe to assume that StudioBook S won't be cheap. The Intel Xeon E-2176M hexa-core processor and Nvidia Quadro P3200 graphics with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM are aimed squarely at the enterprise market. This is a portable workstation for professional content creators, people that need to efficiently edit 4K video, or do intense CAD work on the move. For those users, the 97% DCI-P3 color gamut on the 17-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,200) NanoEdge display is going to be a godsend. This display will help content creators get their work done quickly and accurately, without needing to rely on a separate display – though a 4K UHD resolution may come in handy. Luckily, the Asus StudioBook S is packed to the brim with connectivity. You get a Thunderbolt 3 port, three USB Type-A ports, HDMI 2.0 and an SD card reader. If you noticed the lack of Ethernet, Asus has you covered, including a USB-to-LAN dongle in the box. Asus has also included a number pad that's built into the touchpad, much like what's offered on the Asus ZenBook Pro from last year, which gives the keyboard much more room to breath.
