What's on your wishlist for the 2019 iPhones? Based on analyst reports, Apple is planning to give both the front-facing and rear-facing cameras on the iPhone 11 models a significant upgrade this year. Well-respected Apple watcher Ming-Chi Kuo says that the selfie camera will get a boost from 7 megapixels to 12 megapixels, 9to5Mac reports. An extra layer of glass will apparently be added to the lens as well, for boosting the quality of your snaps, and these upgrades are being tipped to come to all three iPhone 11 models due in September. Details leak on the Moto Z4Bigger batteries tipped for the iPhone 11It's the end of the road for BBMAround the back, meanwhile, Apple is being tipped to add a third lens with super-wide angle capabilities on the two higher-end models, so you can fit more in your shots. Go wideThe successor to the iPhone XR will have a dual-lens rear camera, Kuo says, with the follow-ups to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max featuring triple-lens rear cameras, with the new 12MP super-wide angle lens. A triple camera array is something we've been seeing a lot in the iPhone 11 leaks that have appeared online so far, and it makes sense that Apple would want to upgrade the camera capabilities this time around. The new report suggests Apple is going to use a special coating to make the front-facing cameras and the third rear-facing camera lens almost invisible. That might make the square rear camera design a little less jarring – it's appeared in several leaked renders, and looks likely to dominate the back of the two premium iPhone 2019 models. An iPhone SE successor could land with the iPhone 11http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/Wzvu9hPLIbQ

Disney’s biggest competitor isn’t Netflix - it’s Fortnite
sincity posted a topic in Technology
Back in 2013 Netflix’s Ted Sarandos perfectly captured the strategic challenge that the growing streaming service rapidly faced: “The goal is to become HBO faster than HBO can become us”, he told GQ magazine, in reference to the premium cable powerhouse that broadcasts the likes of Game of Thrones. In other words: Though Netflix’s streaming technology is new and exciting (or at least it was five years ago), the technology alone won’t keep Netflix ahead - content matters too. That’s why, fast-forward to 2019, Netflix has utterly transformed both the living room and the movie theater. This year it is expected to spend a eye-watering $15 billion on films and TV shows for us to watch. In just a few short years Netflix has transformed from the new upstart challenger into the 800Ib gorilla in the entertainment industry. Even Amazon, a company that eats entire sectors for breakfast, has to play second-fiddle to Netflix when it comes to streaming. And for that reason, there are some people out there like John Meyer, an industry analyst and founding partner at Transpire Ventures, who think that even Disney, one of the biggest names in entertainment, might not be able to beat it. "I strongly believe Disney will not become a threat to Netflix whatsoever"John Meyer, Transpire Ventures "I strongly believe Disney will not become a threat to Netflix whatsoever," Meyer said in an email to TechRadar. "After all, they are a tech company at heart and have enormous power with the data they capture on their millions of subscribers, which helps them design what original content to create." But here’s the thing: Maybe Disney doesn’t need to beat Netflix. Maybe Netflix isn’t even Disney’s biggest strategic challenge. Instead, maybe Disney CEO Bob Iger should probably spend more time worrying about Fortnite. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/M23Xiv5WEFnUu27RAESRcD.jpg (Image Credit: Epic Games) Picking your battlesNow, at first that might sound confusing. Why would Disney+, a new streaming service that bears close resemblance to Netflix, compete with an online game? The answer was probably best given by Netflix itself in a letter sent to shareholders earlier this year: “Our focus is not on Disney+, Amazon or others, but on how we can improve our experience for our members.” "We compete with (and lose to) Fornite more than HBO."Netflix, in a letter to shareholders Furthermore, “We compete with (and lose to) Fornite more than HBO.” That's a pretty telling statement. It's basically acknowledging that streaming services aren't that concerned with one another and instead, they're looking at the bigger picture - not only your generation, but the generation coming up right after it, too. And Netflix knows they're going to be much harder to win over. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/uuKQsaQtT62EoQPq94B7km.jpg If Disney wants this to be their future, it will have to start winning kids over now. (Image Credit: Netflix) Disney will need to duke it out with FortniteAt this point you might be thinking that Disney, rights holders and creators of franchises like Star Wars and Frozen must have kids wrapped indefinitely around their finger, and that that gives them an advantage here, right? Wrong. Chances are that if you’re reading this article, you grew up in a vastly different media environment to kids today. The reason we’re so excited about Disney+ is because it appeals to us, our interests and our sense of nostalgia. But if you’re eleven years old today, your world isn’t (exclusively) one of Marvel and Disney Princesses. It is one where mindshare is dominated by Fortnite, aggressively dumb YouTubers and, presumably, a bunch of other entertainment brands in the gaming, fashion, music and movie world. Instagram influencers. Snapchat stars – not to mention the content your friends are producing. So there could be a generation of kids growing up today who lack the pavlovian reaction we have when we hear John Williams’ Star Wars theme tune, because that mindshare has instead been stolen by the Epic Games upstarts. We might love these characters, but it doesn’t mean the next generation will too. It’s inevitable that Fortnite the game will at some point be knocked off of its perch as top dog and replaced by another new game in the next year (cough, Apex Legends), but the real threat to Disney in the long term is that there’s currently a generation of kids who will have a similar reaction when Epic Games reboot Fortnite in 20 years time that we have to the Star Wars Episode IX trailer. We can already see the generational schism starting to happen. When Solo came out, the childrens’ market research firm Kids Insight found just 2% of kids mentioning the film in the month before it was released - performing worse than Deadpool 2 (not exactly a kids film) and Peter Rabbit (yes, the one with James Corden). To them, Star Wars is less a cultural touchstone and more just a logo on one of dad’s old t-shirts. Similarly, when The Muppets performed at London's O2 last year, they failed to sell out the arena - because the characters lack the cultural cachet they once commanded with an older generation. We might love these characters, but it doesn’t mean the next generation will too. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Tm69SCcAChcmcxGyHtdBdM.jpg Kids love Moana, but they might love Fortnite even more... (Image Credit: Disney) Kids are the key Disney owns your childhood and, if everything goes right with Disney+, it will own your kid's childhood, too. Whether Disney+ manages to beat Netflix in terms of subscribers numbers is almost irrelevant. Even if it ends up second or third place, there will always be a place on your smart TV or your iPad for Disney+. Why? Because Disney owns your childhood and, if everything goes right with Disney+, it will own your kid's childhood, too. For both better and worse, Disney isn’t a company that makes a technology platform, or even one that makes films. The entire company is instead focused around intellectual property - hence why theme parks are just as important to the company as feature films. Under current CEO Bob Iger, Disney has hoovered up all of the characters you enjoyed as a kid: It bought the Muppets in 2004, Pixar in 2006, Marvel in 2009, LucasFilm in 2012 and 20th Century Fox just this year. Think of the mindshare that gives Disney - whether it is Kermit, Buzz Lightyear, Captain America, Han Solo or Homer Simpson you want to watch, you have to hand over your cash to their single corporate gatekeeper. Disney is still thinking about that future generation - this year alone, Disney is rolling out Avengers: Endgame, Star Wars Episode IX and a remake of The Lion King, all of which will attract a young audience and win significant mindshare - but the utter cultural dominance of Fortnite among young people is an example that even though Disney might seem unbeatable today, it shouldn’t assume that the characters and stories that we love will continue to work forever. Got your breath back yet? Well it's time to go again. Same teams, same stadium, same result? Unlikely, but Man City have a Premier League title to win and Spurs will want to show that going through on Wednesday was no fluke. You're in the right place to get a Man City vs Tottenham live stream - regardless of where on Earth you are. So which way is this one going to go? Forget the two legs of the Champions League and the smart money would always be on Manchester City. With that attacking force that includes Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and both Silvas, very few teams on the planet can compete. But that's exactly what Spurs have done over the last couple of weeks. And they will want to embrace the confidence and take it back to the Etihad today. Without talismanic striker Harry Kane, they'll be weakened in attack. But Son Heung-Min has shown that he's more than capable of leading the Spurs front line. Keep reading to discover all the details you need in order to live stream Man City vs Tottenham Hotspur, regardless of where in the world you are. Having once dominated instant messaging conversations across the planet, BlackBerry Messenger or BBM is closing down its consumer operations on May 31. "The technology industry... is very fluid, and in spite of our substantial efforts, users have moved on to other platforms, while new users proved difficult to sign on," explains current developer Emtek in a blog post. If you're still using BBM, you'll need to download any your photos, videos and other files you've shared before the service shuts down for good. What MSN Messenger got right about messagingMore iOS features heading to macOSThe Galaxy S10 camera gets a night modeAfter May 31, the apps will no longer work and you won't be able to access your conversation histories. If you've got questions, Emtek has put up a FAQ. Fond memories"We are grateful for your support and wish to thank everyone, especially our users, partners, and employees, for being part of the BBM consumer service journey," says Emtek. "We hope you will cherish many fond memories of BBM consumer service that helped shape messenger platforms to become what they are today." And that's no exaggeration – BBM first appeared in 2005, way before any of the modern alternatives like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger had been invented. In the end though, the competition was too great. If you still need a BBM fix, BlackBerry Limited (which retained the rights to the business version of BBM) has said that BBM Enterprise will be made available on iOS and Android for free for a year, with a $2.49-per-year subscription fee after that. Well the Samsung Galaxy S10e is certainly fulfilling its main purpose as the cheaper alternative to the Korean giant's flagship phone range. Forget picking up a phone that debuted a year or two ago - going for Samsung S10e deals lets you get a 2019 phone for a much more attractive price than the S10 or S10 Plus. And this Easter weekend is looking like the perfect time to grab one thanks to a flurry of newly reduced S10e deals from two of our favourite retailers, Mobiles.co.uk and e2save. Constantly coming up with some of the best value tariffs on the UK phone market's best (and budget) handsets, they have really outdone themselves on the S10e. There are price cuts across pretty much Mobiles.co.uk's entire tribe of S10e deals, so we've picked out three that have caught our eye the most. They range from one of the cheapest overall contract deals we've seen yet on the budget Galaxy phone, to big data alternatives. And there are treats in store for fans of EE, Vodafone and O2. Not fancying the S10e? A new leak claims that the Moto Z4 will pack a midrange Snapdragon 675 chip, the same expected to come in the Moto Z4 Play, according to GSM Arena. That would rebut a rumor floating last November that alleged the Moto Z4 – or the ‘Motorola Odin,’ a codename that may or may not refer to the next flagship Moto device – would pack a Snapdragon 8150 (now known as the Snapdragon 855), the top-tier chip that debuted in the Samsung Galaxy S10. Now, it’s possible that the leak is referring to the Moto Z4 Play, especially since an earlier GSM Arena report noted it would come with the lower-performance Snapdragon 675 – which fits the Play version’s typically lower-specced, lower-cost role. The only flaw in that theory? The new leak is about a phone with a 6.4-inch screen, and the Moto Z4 Play was previously reported to have a 6.22-inch screen. Tricky implications for 5GThis would be a bit odd for the main Moto Z line’s value. The preceding Moto Z3 might not have been a terribly impressive device, but its dated yet still powerful flagship Snapdragon 835 chip made the phone a bargain at a mid-range cost. If the Moto Z4 comes with a mid-range processor, it won’t have quite the value. More importantly: we don’t know if the Snapdragon 675 has the performance to handle 5G. The Moto Z3 has clung to relevance by sporting the Moto Mod 5G that lets it connect to Verizon’s (still very limited, we found) 5G network and it’s likely there’s extra processing power in the mod to get the combined phone package up to speed to harness the advanced network. The question is – can a Snapdragon 675 keep up as well as the Snapdragon 835 in the Moto Z3 in a network test? Even Qualcomm's own numbers show the former's LTE peak download speeds (600Mbps) lower than that of the latter (1Gbps). The leak also noted that both the Moto Z4 and the Moto Z4 Play will pack 48MP rear cameras, with the former coming with a 25MP selfie camera (no word on the Moto Z4 Play’s front-facing camera). That would be a big jump from the 12MP dual rear shooters on the Moto Z3. Here's our list of all the 5G phones coming in 2019 – and beyondhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/FeE4Ww4iSnE

Amazon has announced that Echo owners will be able to use part of Amazon Music for free. The new, free service doesn’t require an Amazon Prime subscription and can be used to access playlists or start new stations by saying "Hey, Alexa," and then a music genre or artist name. The caveat here is that this new tier of Amazon Music is only available in the US at launch, and the service is fairly minimal. For instance, you don't get on-demand access to Amazon's entire library, and you’re going to hear ads in between songs. YouTube will return to Amazon Fire TVMicrosoft kills Cortana Skype bot in favor of AlexaThe cheapest Alexa device is the Amazon Echo InputThe good news is that you’ll be able to use it on all US Alexa devices – including the Amazon Echo, Amazon Echo Dot, Amazon Echo Show and Amazon Echo Plus – right out of the box, without signing up for Prime Music through Amazon Prime ($119 per year) or Amazon Music Unlimited ($7.99 per month for Prime members, $9.99 for non-Prime members). Not bad, but Google's offer is betterWhile this is certainly a step forward for Amazon – giving things away for free isn't usually its strong suit – but it comes just one day after Google announced that YouTube Music would be available for free on every Google Home speaker. The difference here is that YouTube Music allows you to play music on-demand from YouTube Music's massive catalog. Google still puts ads in-between songs, but it' s still a far more appealing offer than Amazon's fairly limited service. Google's offer is clearly better but in today's era of subscription everything, we'll take the free things wherever we can get them. Can't decide which one to buy? If you’re looking for one of the best laptops as a software developer, you’ve come to the right page. With this list, we’ve found all the best laptops for programming, whether you’re trying your hand at HTML, CSS, JavaScript or VB. There are a few things you need to think about before you buy one of the best laptops. When you’re programming, you’re going to need one of the best processors, as that horsepower goes a long way when you’re compiling code. Sure, most modern laptops will feature plenty of cores, threads and high clock speeds, but you should still aim for the fastest processor you can afford. And, then there’s memory. You absolutely need at least 8GB, and it needs to be fast. YOu should also think about storage: one of the best SSDs is essential, as it will shave minutes off your project with all the files and apps you’ll open. You won’t necessarily need the fastest graphics chip on the market, but if you want to do some gaming in your down time, go for it. Modern Intel hardware comes with integrated graphics that are more than good enough for anything you’ll encounter while programming. Oh, and do yourself a favor and make sure you’re getting one of the best keyboards. Programming involves a lot of typing, so you may as well be comfortable while doing it. And, a high resolution display will help make sure your code is easy on the eyes. So, without further ado, here’s our list of the best laptops for programming in 2019. It has a fast processor, plenty of SSD space and 16GB of RAM. And, to top it all off it manages 11 hours of battery life and even packs a 4G/LTE modem. It also features a lovely 14-inch anti-glare display, powered by a discrete Nvidia GeForce 940MX GPU, a spill resistant keyboard and Lenovo’s signature TrackPoint. The Lenovo E460, then, tops all of this off with enough ports and expansion capabilities to keep the average user happy for years to come. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/U6D3ofXKriRQ8SrHtFkjL4.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Y5mBYX4AzuYsxGRkZBXHZf.jpg Image Credit: HP The 255 G5 is HP's entry-level business laptop and is a solid candidate should you be looking for a straightforward, reliable, laptop for programming at a bargain price. The RAM is a little on the low side, but that can be upgraded later on, and there's no denying that this is an excellent laptop for coding on. If you want a similar programming laptop with an Intel processor, rather than AMD, then the HP 250 G5 is worth looking into. There are various configurations of both the HP 255 G5 and the HP 250 G5, so it's worth shopping around and finding one with the right components for your needs. Now, while ChromeOS is admittedly not as good a place to program as Windows or macOS, the Pixelbook’s support of Android makes it a must-own laptop for any Android developer. Welcome to our list of the best free games for kids on both tablet and PC. These free games have all been carefully picked to make sure they are appropriate for boys and girls. There are all kinds of horror stories out there about kids playing games. Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s, we were inundated by stories about how Pac-Man would bring about the end of society – kids shambling through maze-like streets, starving for a cyber pellet fix. Thankfully, nothing like that ever happened. In fact, there has been some research that shows gaming as a productive leisure activity – in moderation, obviously. For instance, the best free games for kids all encourage creative problem solving and critical thinking. The best free games for kids are therefore an active leisure activity, as opposed to the passivity of watching TV. So, because the best free tablet and PC games for kids can be beneficial, you should make sure your kids are only playing the best of the best. Luckily, that’s what we’re here for. We’ve created a list of 20 of the best free games for kids of all genders, between 5 and 11 years old. They’re complete, as-is experiences, combine depth and immediacy and feature no violence. And, they’re all a blast to play – no matter how old your kid is. So, sit back, relax and we’ll show you all the best games for kids. 10 great children’s games for Android tablets and iPadThese days, kids are more likely to first experience computing and gaming on a tablet than a home computer. To that end, our tablet selection skews a little younger. Everything on this list is rated 3+, according to Google, and should be safe for even very young children. However, Apple rates most of these games with a more conservative 4+, except for Super Stickman Golf and Spaceteam, which are 9+. The games are all simple to control, easy to get into, and fun to play. A note on IAPs and ads: Unfortunately, it’s hard to find a free game that’s not out to make a buck somewhere, so several games listed here will offer in app purchases for in game currency. And, some others will feature ads. In the former case, you can disable IAPs at a system level on your device before handing it over to a kid. With the latter, you should play the game yourself to ensure the ads are OK to show to your kid. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/8a7Y84JMEohW2RFEQkr5SQ.jpg 1. Sago Mini FriendsThis sweet-natured set of mini-games encourages creativity, dexterity, and puzzle solving. It starts with you selecting a colorful character, who then explores a neighborhood of cartoon houses. Knock on a door and you’re invited inside for an animated, entertaining playdate. This might involve dress-up, hammering nails into a birdhouse, or enjoying a tasty snack. Everything’s bright and cheerful, and the game promotes empathy, with one friend looking glum if spoils aren’t evenly shared. Get Sago Mini Friends for Android and iOS. A Windows PC version is also available. This game has no IAPs/advertising. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/tcfLvSDAp52jdLm6uG4zzQ.jpg 2. Lego Creator IslandsIn all honesty, we’re sure most parents would be happier seeing kids playing with real Lego rather than virtual bricks on a tablet. But when the real thing isn’t an option, this official game’s a nice substitute. The game takes place on the Lego Creator Islands, where you’ll collect bricks in order to buy Lego sets that are constructed with a few taps. While playing, you’ll collect all kinds of houses, vehicles and even cute blocky critters that roam around. As an added bonus, there’s no chance of painfully stepping on a plastic brick. Get Lego Creator Islands for Android and iOS. This game has no IAPs/advertising. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/hJ9w9FmM5uhKgjT464pidQ.jpg 3. Toca Kitchen 2If your child regularly uses a tablet, you’ve likely already installed some Toca Boca games. They’re a smart mix of education and play, and Toca Kitchen 2 is no exception. As you’d expect, Toca Kitchen 2 is all about cooking. This game invites you to create meals – however you prefer. Devise your own recipes and foist your creations on a colorful cast of characters, whether you’ve carefully constructed a burger, or decided to throw a watermelon into the microwave and cover it in sauce. Get Toca Kitchen 2 for Android. This game has no IAPs/advertising. A paid version exists for iOS. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/YyKfkXAtrb4WYxSeLhxf6R.jpg 4. Llama Spit SpitLlama Spit Spit is an oddball shoot ’em up, featuring a flying llama blasting crazy cartoon enemies with a mix of spittle and high-powered weaponry. The controls are incredibly simple, meaning even younger players can get on board. Power-ups and collectable llamas (with their own background imagery) keep things interesting over the long term. The one snag is it’s the spit of Shooty Skies (Android/iOS), which is the better (and more surreal) game – although the lack of ads and IAP means the llamas get the nod for this particular list. Get Llama Spit Spit for Android and iOS. This game has no IAPs/advertising. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GCr4C4wG9VJeYERELY8UGR.jpg 5. Disney Crossy RoadThe original Crossy Road cleverly reworked Frogger, with blocky characters hopping across chunky endless landscapes, trying to avoid a dunk in a river or getting flattened by a train. But the masterstroke was a raft of unlockable characters. Disney Crossy Road is much the same, but uses Disney characters that often radically overhaul the game’s visuals and gameplay mechanics. Over 100 figurines are there to be found, and although IAP lurks, playing and collecting coins in the in-game worlds is all you need to snag them all. Get Disney Crossy Road for Android and iOS. This game features advertising, and has non-essential IAPs for buying new characters. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Q38mMKqgRwCmpazDKeExsQ.jpg 6. Frisbee Forever 2You’d think flinging a plastic disc about would make for a rubbish video game. Fortunately, Frisbee Forever 2 is more akin to a set of rollercoasters, with you guiding your disc through gates, collecting stars along the way. There’s a hint of Nintendo about this breezy arcade experience, with its vibrant visuals, smart level design, and a basic control system suitable for all. And although there are freemium underpinnings, you’re rewarded with in-game currency for every second played – even if an attempt at a level ends in failure. Get Frisbee Forever 2 for Android and iOS. This game features advertising, and has non-essential IAPs for more rapidly unlocking discs and zones. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oqPoshBZTnWp3tPiCudFsQ.jpg 7. Fruit NinjaIn the fast-paced Fruit Ninja, your digit becomes a virtual sword, hacking pieces of fruit lobbed on to the screen in two, and attempting to avoid cutting into game-ending bombs. It’s ideal fodder for a tablet, since you can make pleasingly large swipes across the display. But also the game offers local multiplayer, so two kids can zealously pit their fruit-slicing skills against each other. Get Fruit Ninja for Android and iOS. This game features advertising, and has non-essential IAPs for purchasing in-game currency. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/KTC28Q3eLGBXQEQtx8LJTQ.jpg 8. MekoramaWith its tiny isometric worlds you spin with a finger, and landscape-flipping mechanics, Mekorama brings to mind Monument Valley. But this game has no Escher-like optical illusions; instead, it concentrates on straightforward pathfinding as you help an ambling robot reach its goals. It’s a charming, thoughtful, tactile experience, and on a tablet is suitable for parent/child play, with you working through the puzzles together. Once you’re done with the 50 built-in levels, you can download more from the internet, or make your own. Get Mekorama for Android and iOS. This game features optional IAP for tipping the developer. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Wz8t2T9iGfZmuzqh3xrGPQ.jpg 9. Super Stickman Golf 3For many kids, golf won’t excite. But the Super Stickman universe doesn’t partake in normal golf. Instead, you’re thwacking balls across larger-than-life side-on courses – massive castles; laser-strewn bases; floating islands. Even though it’s fun to play by yourself, and makes full use of bigger screens (by letting you see more of each course and therefore aim more precisely), it also has fantastic multiplayer game types. You can play turn-by-turn matches with friends, or try your hand at frenetic, madcap ‘race to the hole’ skirmishes. Get Super Stickman Golf 3 for Android and iOS. This game features advertising, and IAP for unlocking a premium upgrade (more courses and slots for turn-based multiplayer) and in-game currency. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ix6gy5NRkb5ZXhdRK4FhNQ.jpg 10. SpaceteamIf you’ve several kids with devices, Spaceteam’s a delightfully bonkers way to have them all yell at each other in a vaguely productive manner that in theory helps them work as a team. Specifically, a ‘spaceteam’ in a ship trying to outrun an exploding star, with control panels designed by a sadist. Once devices are connected, instructions appear on your screen – but the controls may be on someone else’s. So you’ll have people yelling nonsense like “someone turn on the dangling shunter”, while figuring out if their own screen has a ‘spectrobolt’ slider. Just like in Star Trek. Get Spaceteam for Android and iOS. This game has a single optional IAP that unlocks new features and themes PCs are inherently more complex than tablets. Whereas even very young children can grasp how a touchscreen works, figuring out mice, trackpads and keyboards may take longer. This is why our selection of the best PC games for kids skews a little older, although there are still games here that’ll fit a five-year-old. Note that several titles are browser-based, although none require plug-ins. We recommend Google Chrome for these titles. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/siuVzfbWHwDijDNzvFakKQ.jpg 1. Cube SlamPong was one of the earliest home videogames. Cube Slam is Pong in your browser – only in 3D, and you get to play against a bear (or a friend – but the multiplayer option is flaky). You face your furry opponent, moving the bat left or right to deflect the cuboid ‘ball’, aiming to smash the bear’s shields. Win enough times and the game introduces power-ups, invisible balls, and extra blocks on the table that make the ball bounce around unpredictably. Play Cube Slam online http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/xaJHgNSCZdNftXnXCxMtDQ.jpg 2. Quick, DrawFor children who enjoy doodling, Quick, Draw should prove fascinating. The idea is to sketch – against the clock – something recognizable enough for Google’s Neural Network to identify. In each case, you’re told what to draw. But this game isn’t about drawing photorealistic objects. Instead, you must quickly figure out the key visual clues that describe something. Which is probably a good thing, unless you can scribble a realistic rhinoceros in 20 seconds. Play Quick, Draw online http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZSX7ZXeAa4Y8Panq9DG4cQ.jpg 3. World’s Biggest Pac-ManPac-Man’s one of the most recognizable gaming icons around, and the original game is simple enough that even young kids can get to grips with it. However, its single maze quickly becomes dull – hence our recommendation to instead play World’s Biggest Pac-Man. This online effort has hundreds of thousands of mazes, which you venture between by sneaking out of exits. Other than that, the original game’s compelling mix of munching dots and avoiding a quartet of spectral pursuers remains intact. Play World’s Biggest Pac-Man online http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/uqfQLRkM5p6BQZBRpbZ8kQ.jpg 4. Forget-Me-NotThis indie hit takes the basis of Pac-Man and a slew of other ancient arcade games, and then smashes them into an endless bout of modern neon craziness. Again, the basics are simple enough for any kid to understand: march about mazes, grab a key, and make for the exit. But the game’s chaotic nature (the maze’s denizens appear as intent on blowing each other up as taking on the player) ensures it’s relentless raucous fun. Download Forget-Me-Not for PC, Mac, OpenPandora and MorphOS http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UB5mc8bdua2ZeZ7WDsEabQ.jpg 5. Little Alchemy 2It would be a stretch to call Little Alchemy an educational game, but textbook smarts may help you crack the logic at the core of this match-and-discover puzzler. You begin with a handful of building blocks, which when combined create new things. Sometimes, discoveries are obvious – add water to more water and you get a puddle. But some are more whimsical and funny, like when metal and a pigeon become a plane. It’s ideal fodder when your kids want to play games, but you’d prefer them to relax and think for a bit. Play Little Alchemy 2 online. The game is also available for Android and iOS. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/7mGsJ4jwiZd9sxDjhUCrPQ.jpg 6. Contre JourThis lovely physics puzzler began life on mobile, but its landscape-warping nature works well in the browser. The aim is to get trundling protagonist Petit to a glowing exit. This involves click-dragging malleable hills to influence Petit’s movements, or using catapults and dangling tentacles to fling him about. Petit’s endearingly grumpy demeanor, combined with great-looking visuals and clever level design, makes for a family-friendly puzzler sure to have kids scratching their heads figuring out all the solutions. Play Contre Jour online. The game is also available in paid form on various mobile platforms http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ffgGm9xFrZtTKeYW8twR4R.jpg 7. Escape GoatThe clue’s in the title here – a leaping bovid wants to reach the exit. But doing so requires brainpower, plenty of dextrous jumping, and the occasional help of a friendly mouse. Mostly, you’re aiming to reach and butt switches that shift rocks and create tunnels in cunningly designed single-screen challenges. But planning’s often required to collect keys, and not get squashed when walls start moving. Oddly, when you send the mouse on a mission, you can teleport to its position. Quite why the goat can’t teleport straight to the exit, we’ve no idea. Goats never were the brightest creatures. Play Escape Goat online. SpelunkyThis side-scrolling dungeon crawler as a distinctly Indiana Jones feel, and this is probably why it became such a huge indie hit on handhelds – but it began on PC. These days, there are various ways to play early incarnations of the game for free. Although this take is rougher than modern iterations, it remains engaging. You explore caves, bounding about, grabbing bling, and duffing up monsters. Each game is unique – caves are randomly generated, and a single error can bring your quest to an abrupt end, with you impaled on spikes or killed by snakes. So tread carefully and look before you leap. VVVVVV: Make and Play EditionOne for kids who are a bit older and twitchier of thumb, this take on gravity-flip platformer VVVVVV is a special free edition. Like the paid release, it features a little chap who darts about and can leap from ceiling to floor by tapping the jump button. His aim is to escape from a maze comprising dozens of single screens full of spikes and roaming enemies. This free edition includes maps created by fans – and the means to build your own. Super Crate BoxThis one’s also in the twitchy thumbs category, and finds a little pixelated chap leaping about, trying to grab crates. All the while, he must blast creatures spilling into the screen, lest they hurl themselves into the flames below and emerge from the top furiously angry. The game is fast-paced, entertaining, and has plenty of weapons and arenas to unlock. And although it’s a shooter, we can’t imagine many parents will be too concerned about their kid taking a cartoon bazooka to a conga of green monsters. There’s a new Xbox on the way – and it’ll be here before E3 2019. No, we’re not talking about the Xbox Two, or whatever Microsoft’s next-gen machine is going to be called. Instead, we’re on about the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. Yep, you read that correctly – all-digital. As in, no discs. No physical media. All download. Scary, isn’t it? No. Of course it isn’t – we’ve been staring down the barrel of the gun named “discless future gaming” for years now, and Microsoft has made the jump at a time when gamers are finally ready to accept it. That doesn’t mean gamers are happy about it, but the defence of physical media is one that’s been chipped away at for years, to the point where for gamers beyond those who are also collectors, it’s all but irrelevant. Aside from the love of owning a physical item, the modern evolution of games distribution, for better and worse, has rendered physical media practically obsolete. We used to enjoy being able to pop a new game into a console and booting it up almost as soon as it was out of its cellophane wrapping. But now there will be an inevitable 3 hour, 20GB patch to download, a “day one” fix for all the bugs the developers failed to iron out before that shipping deadline was met. The same goes for bringing a game to a friend’s house – unless you’re ready to sit through a lengthy download screen the first time you bring it over, you’d be better off just sticking to their own libraries. Beware the trade-inThe disc’s one value remains in the second hand market, where you can trade or sell games to support your next purchase. But even then, with the rise of games-as-a-service, you’re likely to have lost out on one-time content codes that are packed in with new games, or will have to invest in the ongoing content drops of DLC that keep long-life games like Destiny 2 alive. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/TUwdhZ496B7tn5gyGuyi29.jpg The Division 2 has been a great success with only a fraction of the physical sales its predecessor amassed. Image Credit: Ubisoft And remember, if you truly want to support the developers of the games you play, the second hand market is deathly to them – they receive no cut from the sales of a second hand game. Digital distribution brings with it benefits too, of course. A pre-order can be pre-loaded onto the console ahead of release so that, unlike with physical media, you actually can play a game the moment it is released. You’re able to jump from one downloaded game to another without getting up to change a disc. And, for smaller developers, the digital distribution route is a more cost-effective way to get their wares onto your console, without the costs that physical media necessitates. Though digital discount events are common, it does however sadly remain that digital downloads cost the same as their physical counterparts – if not more. if you truly want to support the developers of the games you play, the second hand market is deathly to them All taken into account, though you may want to defend physical gaming media’s existence, it’s really only now a defence born from nostalgia for a way of playing games that no longer exists. The numbers increasingly back up gamers’ move from a physical to digital preferences. The Division 2 has been one of the year’s big gaming success stories. It was number one in the UK charts in the week commencing March 11 – but only managed to shift 20% of the physical copies that the first title managed. Does that mean that the UK playerbase has gone elsewhere? Of course not – they’ve just migrated to digital instead. The key is Game PassThere has long been talk of a discless Xbox console, with rumors stretching back as far as the launch of the Xbox One itself. But where neither Microsoft’s audience nor its services were ready for the transition back in late 2013, both are now well placed to accept, if not embrace the change. Microsoft’s fantastic Xbox Games Pass service is key to this equation. For a reasonable monthly fee, gamers get access to over 100 Xbox One titles (it’s closer to 200 at the time of writing), ready to download to their consoles. And that also comes with the promise that any first party Microsoft games will be available through Game Pass the same day they hit store shelves. Together with a cheaper hardware option in the shape of Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, it lowers the barrier of entry for lapsed or new-comer gamers, with a ready-made game library ready to be enjoyed. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/g9bjvaxJxe8SnnZXpZ9qic.jpg Image credit: Microsoft The new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate makes for the complete digital-only package – rolling the benefits of both Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold (which unlocks online play and gifts a handful of digital download games to subscribers for keeps every month) into one monthly fee, that’s more affordable by a rate of 25% than paying for both individually. It’s recurrent income for Microsoft, more so than banking on gamers to make a game purchase every month. And that’s especially so when you take into account the “sleeper” subscriber – the person who signs up for a service, and lets payments to it tick away in the background whether they’re engaging with the offering or not. Does this mean the Xbox Two will do away with a disc drive too? That’s unlikely, particularly in the light of the recent PS5 specs reveal. Sony’s console will still have a disc drive, and not merely to support its backwards compatibility program. Blu-ray discs are still a useful way of transferring data, minimising the initial download a game needs upon opening. A disc can also be used to stream additional assets from too – it’s the reason Red Dead Redemption 2 comes with an install disc and a playing disc. But the death of the disc is all but assured, and the final nail in its coffin will be streaming. Sony, Microsoft, and even Google with its Stadia service, are investing in a future where even downloads will be a thing of the past, let alone the box under your TV within which to house them. All you’ll need is an input device, a screen, and the willingness to let go of your grip on the physical world. OnLive, Google Stadia and the long road to a worthy game streaming servicehttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/lLma99YBcBc

The best unlocked phones in the US offer total no-contract freedom if you’re willing to accept a deceptively high full price. Because unlocked phones aren't tied down to any specific carrier, you get to choose which mobile carrier you want to use and can freely switch between plans. As mobile carriers have moved further and further away from locked-down contracts, many more phones are available with no strings attached, including unlocked iPhones. This can make it trickier to decide which one you want. And, while many of the best unlocked phones will work on the networks of AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and most MVNOs (minor carriers that operate on bigger carrier's networks), some GSM-only phones have limited support for certain networks. This makes it even trickier to be sure you're getting a phone that'll work for you. We're here to help, though. We've reviewed all of the best phones, and have the details you'll need about which carriers you can use them on. We've taken all that information to rank the best unlocked phones for you, so you can get a phone that'll work with the carriers you want and let you save money by only getting the data plan you need, not the one stipulated by an installment agreement. If you're ready, here are the best unlocked phone options available to you. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Jy8NDJYDUdPbgFABtF6f5M.jpg Image Credit: TechRadar If you to just get the best phone out there without worry about its hefty cost, then the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus is it. This powerful Android phones runs on the latest Snapdragon 855 chipset backed by 8GB to 12GB of RAM, so it can blast through productivity and gaming alike. The 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display is incredibly sharp and features a hole-punch design for the twin front-facing cameras, allowing the screen to stretch extra high up on the front of the phone. And, the three rear cameras on the back of the Galaxy S10 Plus are among the best we've ever seen. Will it work for me? Samsung’s phones support a wide range of carriers, including the big four here in the US. Expect full support at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. (Note: Make sure you're buying the US-version with a Snapdragon chipset for full carrier support.) With its nearly bezel-less display measuring a full 6.5 inches, it’s stunning to look at. Surgical steel around the edge and a glass front and back make it the phone itself quite the looker as well. While the price is certainly high, there is no better Apple phone. Will it work for me? Apple says the unlocked iPhone XS Max can be activated with any carrier, which means you’ll have no issue with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon, and many smaller carriers will likely work as well. Unlike last year’s new iPhone, you won’t have to choose between Intel GSM-only and Qualcomm GSM+CDMA modems – Apple went with an Intel GSM+CDMA modem from the start. The Pixel 3 has the updated specs you’d expect from an Android smartphone released in 2018, even if the design hasn’t quite followed the bezel-free design others are going for. Still, the screen is a usable 5.5-inch OLED with dual front-facing speakers that are nice to have. The battery is enough to get the job done each day, and Google’s ongoing software updates make this a phone that won’t become irrelevant too quickly. Will it work for me? Google advertises the Pixel 3 as working on all major carriers, so you’ll have no trouble activating on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon. Smaller carriers should usually work unless they have their own restrictions, and the Pixel 3 also offers access to Google’s Project Fi network. This phone still has much of what makes its biggest siblings great, but it skips a few features, keeps down the size, and thereby keeps down the price. Thanks to its added affordability, the Galaxy S10e even outranks the Galaxy S10 in our opinion. It still has a stunning 5.8-inch screen that's easy to wield in one hand, though the side-mounted fingerprint scanner may favor right-handed users. The Snapdragon 855 chipset inside is wonderfully powerful, and the phone comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM to keep apps snappy when switching between them. Will it work for me? Samsung’s phones support a wide range of carriers, including the big four here in the US. Expect full support at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. (Note: Make sure you're buying the US-version with a Snapdragon chipset for full carrier support.) While this is the first OnePlus phone to dump the 3.5mm headphone jack, it’s also the most stunning design to date. OnePlus has stretched the screen real estate and shrunk down the notch to just a tiny nib. The internals are powerful, the battery sizable, the screen massive and beautiful even if it’s not as sharp as Samsung’s, and the cameras are even highly competitive. And, let’s not forget the new phone features a fingerprint scanner built underneath the display. All that, and the OnePlus 6T launched with a price well below all the other new flagship phones. Will it work for me? Unless you’re on Sprint or a Sprint-based MNVO like Boost Mobile, you should be able to use the OnePlus 6T just fine. It supports numerous bands on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. With a dual-SIM tray, you can even connect to multiple networks at the same time, making it extra handy for frequent international travelers. This is one of the best Android phones out right now, just falling shy of the Galaxy S10 Plus, and it's a fair bit cheaper. The P30 Pro offers a snappy experience with its Kirin 980 chipset and up to 8GB of RAM. It also comes with a base storage of 128GB but that can be affordably expanded via microSD card. The cameras are where the Huawei P30 Pro really shines. It has five of them. The front camera has a high 32MP resolution, and the rear system combines a 40MP, 20MP, 8MP, and time-of-flight sensor to some incredible results. A powerful Night Mode take seemingly impossible photos, and it features 5x optical zoom that boosts up to 50x with surprising, though not perfect, clarity. The big issue here is US availability and carrier support, which sees it drop down in the ranks a bit. Will it work for me? This will depend on the variant you buy, so make sure to compare the supported network bands with the carriers you want to use it with. The Latin American variant has some US compatibility, with full support for T-Mobile and 3G/4G LTE support for AT&T. Don't expect support for Sprint, Verizon, or MVNOs running on their networks. It fits a huge, 6.4-inch display into a handset that manages to avoid being unwieldy. Smaller hands may struggle with it, but the upside is a great display for watching TV and movies on the go. With a 4,000mAh battery, you can use the Note 9 all day. And, the Snapdragon 845 paired with 6 or 8 GB of RAM (depending on the storage size you choose), will offer plenty of performance. Let’s not forget this phone has one of the best smartphone cameras on the market. Will it work for me? Samsung’s phones support a wide range of carriers, including the big four here in the US. Of the three new models, this is the budget one, even if it still has a high price. While it doesn’t have the dual-rear cameras, lacks an OLED screen, and falls just short of Full HD resolution on the display, it’s not a miss. The powerful internals match the other iPhones, the main camera is still a powerful shooter, and the whole package is made all the better thanks to the best battery performance we’ve seen in an iPhone. Will it work for me? Apple says the unlocked iPhone XR can be activated with any carrier, which means you’ll have no issue with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon, and many smaller carriers will likely work as well. It has a big, 6.1-inch display with a single hole-punch camera, and a fingerprint scanner built beneath the display glass. It also has the ability to serve as a wireless charger for other phones and electronics. It also has a three camera system on the back that includes both ultra-wide and zoom lenses for some great versatility. It's not quite as capable as the Galaxy S10 Plus, but it's a bit cheaper. If the extra screen is something you want, and the high-tech fingerprint and wireless powershare interest you, it may be a worthwhile upgrade over the Galaxy S10e. It's definitely an excellent phone, it's just tricky to choose over one of the other two S10 models. Will it work for me? Samsung’s phones support a wide range of carriers, including the big four here in the US. Expect full support at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. In the case of the latest iPhones, a tight wallet can also make the iPhone XS a better pick than its bigger sibling. It offers the same performance, has the same cameras and software, but it comes in at a more compact size, with a smaller battery and display. Will it work for me? That’s right, not just on NBC itself but also on a number of networks owned by the company. This means that you will need some combination of NBC, NBCSN (NBC Sports Net), CNBC, USA Network and NHL Network. To complicate things even further, NBC will also air some games on the Golf Channel when there are scheduling conflicts. The channels showing the games will also change depending on which round of the playoffs we’re in. The first round will be shown across NBC, NBCSN, CNBC, USA and the NHL Network while the second and third rounds will be on NBC and NBCSN. Finally, the Stanley Cup Finals will be shown on NBC. For cable subscribers this shouldn’t be too difficult but if you’d prefer to watch the games online or on your mobile devices, NBCSports will have livestreams of the games on its website or on the NBC Sports app. You will need to provide your cable credentials to gain access to these streams but you could always setup a digital antenna to watch NBC over-the-air for free. If you’d rather not sign up for a premium cable subscription just to watch the Stanley Cup and playoffs, we recommend going with one of the many TV streaming services available as they give you access to the channels you need to watch hockey without the high cost. For your convenience, we’ve listed all of the streaming services with the channels you need to watch the NHL playoffs below. You can stream on up to three screens simultaneously and with the DirecTV Now app you can watch live TV on the go. New customers can take advantage of a 7-day trial but you'll have to purchase one of DirecTV Now's packages first.Sling TV starting at $15 per month - Sling TV's Blue package gives you access to NBC, NBCSN and USA though you’ll have to add the $5 News Extra and $5 Sports Extra packages to your subscription to watch games on CNBC and the NHL Network. fuboTV $44.99 for the first month - fuboTV gives you access to NBC, NBCSN, CNBC and USA but not the NHL Network. The service also includes Cloud DVR so you can record games to watch them later and if you forget to record a game, the company's 3-day replay allows you to replay nearly any game, show or movie that aired in the last three days. FuboTV even offers a free 7-day trial so you can test out the service.YouTube TV $49.99 per month - YouTube TV gives you access to NBC, NBCSN, CNBC and USA but not the NHL Network. With YouTube TV you get free unlimited DVR storage space to record games for later and you can stream the service on three devices simultaneously. A free 14-day trial is also available so you can test it out for yourself.- Discover our pick of all the US's best sports streaming sites http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/jgvvohCEmS99W9XuRfJMSo.jpg Watch and live stream NHL playoffs in CanadaIf you live in Canada and want to watch the Stanley Cup playoffs on TV, then Sportsnet has you covered. The network’s TV coverage will be available on Sportsnet, Sportsnet 360, Sportsnet ONE and CBC. However, if you’d prefer to live stream the games on your computer or mobile devices you can do so by logging in using your cable credentials on the CBCSports website or on the CBC Sports app on Android and iOS. If you’re not a cable subscriber, we recommend choosing one of the streaming services above if you just want to watch the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, if you’re also a big Canadian Hockey League fan, Sportsnet has its own streaming service available called SNNow for just $20 a month that shows over 300 NHL games as well as NHL, NBA, MLB, CHL, WWE and more that might be worth checking out. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/SFNJ5LrHn6npyWTKVdbpWo.jpg Watch the NHL playoffs in the UKUnfortunately for hockey fans in the UK, Premier Sports is the only way to watch the Stanley Cup Playoffs on TV. To get access to the Premier Sports 1 & 2 you’ll either have to sign up through Sky for £9.99 a month or £99 a year, Virgin Media at £9.99 a month or with the network’s own Premier Player at £9.99 a month. Premier Sports does have an offer where you can get the first month free using the promo code FIRSTMONTHFREE but even then you only get access to 15 NHL games each week. On the other hand you could try one of the streaming services listed above and if all else fails you can always connect with a VPN and change your IP address to one in the US. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ebGZgkd4qVX7mUuvz3WNkH.jpg http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/TxRsimsaDCQ

It’s also incredibly sturdy – you don’t need to worry about things bumping into it in your tour bag, thanks to its robust aluminum unibody design. Not only does it pack the hardware necessary for music production, but it has a beautiful display, and plenty of legacy connections for connecting your equipment. It lacks USB-C and Thunderbolt 3, but if you’re just in it for music production, that shouldn’t really matter. For aspiring music producers, the XPS’ move to an 8th-generation Intel Kaby Lake R CPU should be appealing, as it will trim down the time it takes to process tracks, allowing you to minimize downtime. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to find a 1TB storage drive anymore, but when you get a laptop that looks this good and runs this fast – it’s a worthy tradeoff. Luckily, Microsoft has released the Surface Laptop 2, one of the best laptops in its arsenal. Not only does this thing feature a quad-core processor and plenty of RAM, but it has a lovely touch display and all the ports you need – even if it’s lacking Thunderbolt 3. The new MacBook Air brings Apple’s thin and light mainstream laptop into the modern day with a sleek aluminum build, a Retina display and an actual modern processor. This all makes for one of the best laptops for musicians that want to stay with macOS – though you’ll want to invest in a couple of dongles, the two Thunderbolt 3 ports aren’t compatible with a lot of music equipment. Packing the same InfinityEdge technology as the smaller XPS 13, the screen extends right to the edge of the machine which means it's as small as it's possible to make a 15-inch laptop in 2017. It's quite pricey though, depending on which version you get. The very top end version has a 4K color-accurate display, which can give you an excellent overview of all the tracks you're working on. After a year of feuding, Amazon and Google have finally broken the virtual trade embargo between the two companies, Amazon has announced. Starting later this year, Amazon Fire TV and Amazon Fire TV Cube will have access to YouTube via the native YouTube app, and you’ll be able to watch Amazon Prime Video on Google Chromecast. In broad terms, that means you’ll be able to watch everything available on Amazon’s video service on Android TV, Chromecast and Google Home Hub devices (as well as any other device that supports Chromecast Built-in), plus watch YouTube on Amazon Fire TV and Amazon Fire TV Edition Smart TVs, with support for the YouTube TV and YouTube Kids apps coming later this year. Need something to watch? These are the best Netflix showsDon't worry Amazon, we've also rounded up the best Amazon showsWant to watch Thrones? Here's how to stream Game of Thrones anywhereWhile this will be a big change for Amazon Prime Video watchers who haven’t been able to cast Amazon content to their screens since, well, ever, it might be less of a boon for Amazon device owners who have been able to watch YouTube through the Amazon Silk browser, despite Google pulling the native YouTube app last year. The native YouTube app not might have been missed, but YouTube TV and YouTube Kids certainly have, so there's something to be gained by both sides. There is one caveat, however: the only device that seems to be left out of the agreement is the Amazon Echo Show, which likely won’t have YouTube returned to it at all – a strange move everything considered. A war with no winnersWhile the war between the two tech giants has been brewing for what seems like forever, the battle came to a head when Google pulled YouTube from the Amazon Fire TV – likely in response to Amazon's refusal to sell Chromecast, Nest and Google Home Devices on the Amazon store. Amazon resumed sales of those products after the YouTube app was pulled, but neither company allowed their services to be used by the other with customers feeling the brunt of the software embargo. The easing of tensions today represents a period of Detente for the companies and could be the foundation of a long-lasting peace ... as long as Amazon keeps selling Google products. Speaking of streaming, here's our list of the best streaming services in 2019http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/izs4hYASGro

Researchers at Cisco's Talos cybersecurity unit have discovered a new hacker group that has targeted 40 government and intelligence agencies, telecoms and internet giants in 13 countries for more than two years. While the new campaign bears some similarities to DNSpionage, which rerouted users from legitimate websites to a malicious server to steal their passwords, the researchers have assessed with high confidence that the campaign they've dubbed “Sea Turtle” is a new, separate operation. Sea Turtle targets companies by hijacking their DNS by pointing a target's domain name to malicious server instead of to its intended target. 5 cybersecurity threats your DNS logs already reveal72% of FTSE 100 companies are at risk of being taken off the Internet – is your company too?Data Protection Day: Spotlighting DNS for all the right reasonsThe site-spoofing technique used by the hackers behind the campaign exploits long-known flaws in DNS that can be used to trick unsuspecting victims into imputing their credentials on fake login pages. Sea TurtleThe attacks launched by Sea Turtle work by first compromising a target using spear phishing to establish a foothold on their network. Known exploits are then used to target servers and routers to move laterally inside a company's network to obtain network-specific passwords. These credentials are then used to target an organization's DNS registrar by updating its records so that its domain name points away from its IP address and instead to a server controlled by the hackers. The hackers then employ a man-in-the-middle operation to impersonate login pages and obtain additional credentials to move even further into a company's network. By using their own HTTPS certificate for the target's domain, the attackers can make a malicious server appear genuine. According to Talos, the hackers used this technique to compromise the Swedish DNS provider Netnod as well as one of the 13 root servers that powers the global DNS infrastructure. The hackers also were able to gain access to the registrar that manages Armenia's top-level domains using similar tactics. While Talos has not revealed which state is behind the group, its researchers say that Sea Turtle is “highly capable” and have provided mitigation instructions in a blog post, saying: “Talos suggests using a registry lock service, which will require an out-of-band message before any changes can occur to an organization's DNS record. If your registrar does not offer a registry lock service, we recommend implementing multi-factor authentication, such as DUO, to access your organization's DNS records. If you suspect you were targeted by this type of activity intrusion, we recommend instituting a network-wide password reset, preferably from a computer on a trusted network. Lastly, we recommend applying patches, especially on internet-facing machines. Network administrators can monitor passive DNS record on their domains, to check for abnormalities.” Via TechCrunch Protect your online privacy with the best VPNhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/gfK7KQPXoBg

In an effort to address EU antitrust concerns, Google has announced that Android users in Europe will now be able to choose between five different web browsers and search engines on their devices. Last year the EU hit the search giant with a record €4.34bn fine over how it used the market power of its mobile software to block competing services in search and web browsing. By pre-installing its Chrome browser and Google search app on Android smartphones, Google gained an unfair advantage on its rivals according to the European Commission. Google to launch .dev domainsHow to fix Google ChromeGoogle+ set to shut downNow the company is trying to rectify the situation by giving European users more choices when it comes to which browsers are installed on their devices and which search engine they choose to use. More search and browser optionsIn a blog post, Product Management Director at Google, Paul Gennai explained that Android users in Europe will now see new screens with an option to download different search apps and browsers when they open Google Play, saying: “These new screens will be displayed the first time a user opens Google Play after receiving an upcoming update. Two screens will surface: one for search apps and another for browsers, each containing a total of five apps, including any that are already installed. Apps that are not already installed on the device will be included based on their popularity and shown in a random order.” The new options will appear on both new Android phones sold in Europe as well as on existing devices in the region. While these changes may be enough to persuade the European Commission that Google has realized the error of its ways, the lobbyist group FairSearch whose complaint against Android triggered the EU investigation in the first place is still not satisfied and things the European regulators should do more, saying: “Fairsearch rejects as insufficient Google’s launch today of a choice screen for Android because it does nothing to correct the central problem that Google apps will remain the default on all Android devices.” If Google is unable to show European regulators that it has put a stop to its anti-competitive practices, it faces a fine of up to five percent of Alphabet's average daily worldwide turnover. Samsung's blue-eyed boy, the Galaxy Fold is perhaps the most exciting smartphones of 2019 and has been doing rounds of the internet as and when more people get access to the product. If a new report is to be believed, the Galaxy Fold is going to be available in India sometime in May this year. While the Fold will officially be available in the US starting April 26, the UK and Europe will only get it from May 3. According to a report by BGR India which cites anonymous sources, Samsung is zeroing in on a date for the launch of Galaxy Fold in India. As of now, there's no official information regarding a possible launch date. Having said that, the launch of the Samsung foldable phone is confirmed as DJ Koh, CEO of Samsung Electronics revealed in an interview that Samsung will indeed launch their "newest technology innovation" in India. The Galaxy Fold was unveiled in March and is Samsung's first foldable phone that is going to be available commercially very soon. The phone has three screens- a small 4.6-inch Super AMOLED display on the front and a large 7.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel when the phone is unfolded. Naturally, it is Samsung's most expensive phone ever and comes with a price tag of 1,980 USD which roughly translates to Rs 1,37,750. We expect Samsung to price it around the same mark when the Galaxy Fold launches in India. Read more: The Samsung Galaxy Fold has a durability problemDurability issues escalate on Galaxy FoldWith reviewers getting their hands on the Galaxy Fold just days back, various reports now indicate that the Galaxy Fold isn't as durable as it feels in the hand. Publications like The Verge, Android Central along with a bunch of YouTube video creators have revealed that the primary screen on their review units has stopped working and in one case, is continuously flickering. Samsung has released a statement on the issue and promises to inspect the said review units for further details. "A limited number of early Galaxy Fold samples were provided to media for review. We have received a few reports regarding the main display on the samples provided. We will thoroughly inspect these units in person to determine the cause of the matter," Samsung said in the statement. It also added that the Galaxy Fold comes pre-installed with a protective film which, if removed, may cause damage to the primary display. Samsung assures that it will "ensure this information is clearly delivered to our customers." A 5G version of the Huawei Mate 20 X was announced at MWC 2019, and while we don't know an exact release date or price for it, leaked specs do show us one important difference it has with the Huawei Mate 20 X 4G model. Leaked information on the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G suggests that while it'll have the same screen size as the Mate 20 X 4G, it'll actually have a smaller battery, despite 5G connectivity being a substantial battery drain. The 4,200mAh battery size suggested by the leak is still a respectable capacity, but for a device with a huge 7.2-inch screen that should be able to connect to 5G, the battery life itself could be a little on the short side. However the leak does suggest the handset will have 40W SuperCharge, which the original Huawei Mate 20 X did not, and this could help to mitigate potential battery problems somewhat. We can't verify the validity of the leak, however the downgrade would make sense, given that 5G antennae take up more space than 4G versions, and so Huawei could possibly downsize the battery to make room in a device of the same size. While we don't know the release date of the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G just yet, we're actually expecting the foldable 5G Huawei Mate X to release first, and that's slated for the second half of 2019, so it could be a while before we find out for sure the battery situation of the Mate 20 X 5G. Could the Huawei Mate X be a game-changer for selfie photos?http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/RCzp0yRB31Y

Google Home devices have a new feature that will gently brighten your Philips Hue lights when it's time to wake up, and dim them when you're ready to start winding down for the night. A simulated sunrise is a much gentler way to start your day than an alarm, but a good quality wake-up light can cost well over $100. If you have Philips Hue lights in your bedroom and a Google Home on your bedside cabinet, there's now no need for anything else. Check out our Philips Hue White Ambiance reviewAmazon Echo vs Google Home: which is the smart speaker for youThe best Google Home prices in 2019The command "Hey Google, turn on Gentle Wakeup" will add light to your regular alarm, while "Hey Google, wake my lights" will create a simulated sunrise to rouse you without any noise. When you're ready to settle down for the night, "Hey Google, sleep the lights" will gradually dim them to help you drift off. Sleep tightGentle Wakeup is currently available in the US, UK, Australia, Singapore and India, and works in English only, but hopefully more languages and territories will be coming soon. "For other ways to wind down at the end of the day, you can also tune out noises from street traffic or construction next door by saying, 'Hey Google, play white noise.'" suggests product manager Ashton Udall. Alternatively, you could have Google Assistant read you (or your kids) a bedtime story from your audiobook library. Internet searches can be broken into two categories - informational (news, Wikipedia, trivia questions) and commercial ones (products and services). While the internet is a key destination for commercial queries, the way people search is changing. On traditional search engines, a user has to perform some actions to get what they want: find a right option, call or email the provider, check the price and availability. At the same time, on-demand economy has set a new bar for the quality, speed and convenience of search. Users are no longer willing to wait, they simply look for a quickest way to solve their problem, rather than to merely browse search results. As a result, customers turn their eyes to the online marketplaces that bring together almost everything – from airline tickets and restaurants to brands and services – see a 300 percent growth per year, according to Stripe. Marketplaces have a potential to replace search engines as platforms of choice for commercial searches – and here is why. AI and the next generation of search enginesNew Amazon app store offers selling tools to Marketplace partnersGoogle adds DuckDuckGo as search optionShift in behaviorLet’s face it – it’s already happening. More US internet users start product searches on Amazon (46.7 percent) compared to Google (34.6 percent). When it comes to buying, customers preferred to search and purchase the goods on Amazon (41 percent), or to search on Google and then to buy on Amazon (28 percent). One reason for it is the data accumulated by the marketplaces. Extensive reviews, Q&As, pictures both from retailers and buyers, comparison options lure both online and offline shoppers to research product information. Multiple parameters also enable a greater search personalization. That leads to another shift. Research shows that it takes a user longer to complete a purchase after a search on Amazon. An online marketplace becomes a preferred product research engine, while Google is used after a customer already knows what to buy. At the same time, according to Salesforce, online marketplaces tend to win a battle for the second purchase and customer loyalty. Another change hits the restaurant market where the delivery-only “ghost” restaurants are working solely on aggregate marketplaces like Deliveroo and Uber Eats. Those virtual restaurants don’t have seating or storefront, however, they have more opportunity to experiment with menus based on what users search. According to Morgan Stanley, the food delivery market could grow to $220 billion by 2020 from $30 billion in 2017, and the opportunity to exist solely on a marketplace gives entrepreneurs a chance to develop business and cut costs of traditional restaurants. Key takeaway: businesses can no longer ignore placing their products on marketplaces – otherwise they risk not being noticed at the earlier stage of user journey. Commercial searches are the most obvious area where marketplaces can seamlessly overtake search engines, as they already do. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/7TjZuvy3RMcH4grzfVu5xP.jpg Image Credit: Pixabay Post-search experienceWhy is this shift in behavior happening? Unlike the traditional search engines, marketplaces seem to do a better job going beyond the list of relevant results and provide an actual solution to users’ search intent. That is true not only for product searches, but also for services - Andrew Chen from Andreessen Horowitz actually predicts a new era of service marketplaces to emerge, including the ones providing access to contractor jobs. The gig economy is a growing trend worldwide – just in the U.S., it counts over 60 million workers, and by 2027 the majority of American people will work independently. Freelancer marketplaces like Upwork and YouDo not only help users to seamlessly find the best talent on the market, but also to use some functions to enhance the post-search experience. For example, Upwork provides businesses access to collaboration and project management tools, invoicing and international payment processing, while freelancers can benefit from access to Microsoft Office tools. Facebook Marketplace has expanded into home services last year, powered by other three marketplaces - Handy, HomeAdvisor, and Porch. Users can search by reviews, location and other data points powered by the marketplaces, as well as to get a quote directly on Facebook and communicate to a chosen professional through Facebook Messenger. YouDo serves as a one stop shop for the day-to-day jobs like Ikea furniture assembling or roof maintenance, or some quirky tasks like helping with a marriage proposal. Interestingly enough, YouDo features a search bar powered by AI to recognize the request made in natural language and find the right professional to do the job. Key takeaway: marketplaces are a backbone of gig economy. Large databases ensure a quicker search for the talent, enhanced functionality enables greater personalization as well as a better post-search experience. As a result, on-demand marketplaces provide not just a better search option, but also allow businesses and consumers to save time. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/mo7HUCL4BLCRhCQjZ9PLsE.jpg Image Credit: Pexels From voice search to voice purchaseVoice search is a trend for both search engines and marketplaces. By 2020, 50 percent of all searches will be done by voice, and 40 percent of millennials already use voice search before making a purchase online. Google and Amazon lead the adoption through voice-powered personal assistants (Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa), smart speakers (Google Home and Amazon Echo), and generic voice search functions onsite. While the clear winner is yet to be determined, marketplaces are not giving up to search engines and continue to invest in better experiences. For example, Amazon has already patented a new technology to allow Alexa detect user’s emotions and feelings – if the assistant recognizes a cough, it might prompt the user to buy some medicine. Key takeaway: voice search battle has just began, but marketplaces are effectively competing with search engines. Leveraging AI algorithms, improving voice recognition and adding extra functionality to help users find and buy what they want allow marketplaces to stay in line with customers’ needs.
