It seems Amazon isn’t the only company who hires people to eavesdrop on conversations you have with your voice assistant – Google has now been caught out doing the same thing, too. Belgian broadcaster VRT NWS has reported that Google hires contractors to listen and transcribe audio recordings of users talking to Google Assistant, either via a smart speaker or their phones. One such contractor provided the broadcaster with over 1,000 recordings for an investigation into the transcription process. It was found that many of the recordings included identifiable personal details of users, while 153 conversations were seemingly recorded by accident, as the wake command of “OK Google” or “Hey Google” wasn’t used to trigger the digital assistant. According to the report, Google employs thousands of contractors around the world to transcribe Assistant conversations, although they all use a secure login to access the recordings via the company’s Crowdsource app. You can watch the original report, with English subtitles, in the video below. How to turn off Google AssistantBest smart speakers available in 2019Sonos enables Google Assistant for non-US marketsIn Google’s defenseAlthough it's no secret Google collects user data and stores recorded conversations with Assistant, the company has not previously disclosed the fact that humans also listen to some of these interactions. After VRT NWS broke the news, Google published a blog post defending the practice, stating that the system is necessary to learn more about user behavior and to improve Assistant’s algorithms and customer experience. Hiring people from around the world means the company’s “speech technology works for a wide variety of languages, accents and dialects”, thus “[enabling] products like the Google Assistant to understand your request, whether you’re speaking English or Hindi”. According to Google, contractors listen to only 0.2% of all audio clips and none are “associated with user accounts”. Moreover, transcribers are instructed “not to transcribe background conversations or other noises, and only to transcribe snippets that are directed to Google”. Google also says there are “a number of protections in place to prevent false accepts from occurring”, which is when Assistant is triggered accidentally by “some noise or words in the background”. A contractor leaking audio clips to a news outlet, Google says, is a violation of its data security policies. The incident is being investigated by the company, and it says action will be taken against the leaker. Google is also reviewing the policies it has in place for its transcribers “to prevent misconduct like this from happening again”. 9 things Google Assistant can do that you may not know abouthttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/g7nh-LQGQUM

As the proprietor of the Steam Store, it’s Valve’s job to help you find the games you’re looking for – a job that’s easier starting today with the introduction of three new experimental features that are part of Valve’s new Steam Labs collection. In more or less words, Steam Labs is a collection of new experimental features that Valve wants to test before rolling it out to everyone with Steam installed on their computer. The three features released today are called Micro Trailers, Interactive Recommender and Automatic Show. Micro Trailers is pretty self-explanatory and will show you short six-second clips of games on the Steam Store, while the Automatic Show compiles a bunch of trailers from Steam’s most popular games and shows them to you in one oversized, 25-minute sizzle trailer. Interactive Recommender is probably the most interesting of the experimental features Valve released today as it allows you to play around with Steam’s recommendation algorithm. You can change the algorithm to show you more of what’s popular or more niche, allowing you to find some games that might not have otherwise floated to the top of your recommended games list. All the features are available to test out starting today and, if all goes well, could potentially become part of the main Steam app sometime down the road. Need something new to play? Nintendo has announced the Nintendo Switch Lite, a lighter, more compact version of the Switch that is dedicated to handheld gaming. Rumors have been circling for a while now that a new Nintendo Switch was on the way, but whether this would take the form of a Switch Pro, Switch Mini or even two new Switch consoles has been unclear. We now know a handheld Nintendo Switch Lite is definitely on the way - confirming a report by the Wall Street Journal. So is this the only new Nintendo Switch on the horizon? Well, no, we don't think so. The same report also claimed a second premium version of the console with "enhanced features targeted at avid videogamers" is on the way. So it's entirely possible the Switch Lite is only one of two new Nintendo Switch consoles and we'll be seeing another in the future. Could we be seeing another new Nintendo Switch, and what new features will it offer? While we wait for more definitive answers, we've run through the likely (and unlikely) possibilities below... [update: Another new Switch won't release this year, says Nintendo.] http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3fnabAzBMHEgv9nDsmduEC.jpg Image credit: Nintendo New Nintendo Switch release dateWe expected Nintendo to announce a new Nintendo Switch console sometime soon, and we were right. The House of Mario announced its new handheld-focused Nintendo Switch Lite is due release on September 20, 2019 but we don't think that's the only new Nintendo Switch up its sleeve. The Wall Street Journal report suggests another premium Nintendo Switch console is also on the way and, while we're taking these rumors which a pinch of salt, it did correctly predict the release of a lighter, more compact Nintendo Switch. But when could we see this premium console? Based on these industry trends, it would make sense for Nintendo to release an upgraded version of the Switch hardware (or a design) between two and three years into its lifetime, which would mean we could see another new Switch in late 2019 or 2020. While the Switch lite focuses on redesign, its possible a second new Switch would focus on hardware improvements - maybe a Switch Pro? We'd expect Nintendo to release another new model before the Xbox Project Scarlett or PS5 hits shelves – likely in late 2019 – chiming with the report from the Wall Street Journal that predicted a new Nintendo Switch model in mid-to-late 2019. While we know the Switch lite is launching in September, 2019, it seemed possible that we would see a second new console releasing closer to the end of the year - just in time for the holidays. However, According to CNET, who attended a press briefing for the announcement of the Switch Lite, Nintendo president Doug Bowser revealed that we won't be seeing another new Switch model in 2019. "[The Nintendo Switch Lite will] be the only new Nintendo Switch hardware this holiday, as Bowser says the larger Switch won't get an upgrade right now," CNET writes. Bowser's comments rule out a 2019, suggesting a 2020 release window is more likely. But if a second new Nintendo Switch ends up with a 2020 release, it's likely that it will be in direct competition with the next Xbox and PS5 release as Sony has already confirmed we won't see the PS5 before mid-2020 and Xbox Project Scarlett is due for release at the end of 2020. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/dyW4nsVz74YbKRYkXh6CHC.jpg Image credit: Nintendo Tetris 99 and the best free Nintendo Switch gamesNew Nintendo Switch priceObviously redesigns cost money, and redesigns with improved hardware doubly so. We wouldn't be surprised if a new Switch with updated hardware costs considerably more than the current Switch's £279/ $299/AU$469 pricing, especially considering rumors suggest the new console will be "premium". In addition, the Switch Lite isn't exactly cheap. The new handheld Switch costs $199.99/£199.99/AU$329.95, which isn't too far off the original's price. New Nintendo Switch news and rumorsDespite the fact that Nintendo has announced the Switch Lite, there are rumors suggesting a second new Nintendo Switch could be on the way. Another new Switch won't release this year, says Nintendo At a press briefing for the announcement of the Switch Lite, Nintendo president Doug Bowser revealed that we won't be seeing another new Switch model in 2019, according to CNET. "[The Nintendo Switch Lite will] be the only new Nintendo Switch hardware this holiday, as Bowser says the larger Switch won't get an upgrade right now," CNET wrote. Bowser's comments suggest an upgraded Switch model is on the way, perhaps a Switch Pro? Nintendo Switch Lite announced The Nintendo Switch Lite is a much smaller, solely handheld version of the Nintendo Switch and comes in three different colors: yellow, gray and turquoise. According to Nintendo, the Nintendo Switch Lite is a device "dedicated to handheld gameplay". The device has integrated controls and, unlike its larger predecessor, will not support video output to TV. In addition, the Switch Lite will only play Nintendo Switch games that support handheld mode. This new Nintendo Switch will launch on September 20, 2019 and cost $199.99/£199.99/AU$329.95. A limited edition Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian & Zamazenta Edition console will also launch on November 8 to celebrate the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield games - this version will feature cyan and magenta buttons, and illustrations of the two new Legendary Pokémon. Two new Nintendo Switch devices A Wall Street Journal report suggests that Nintendo is working on two individual Switch variants that, rather than making the current Nintendo Switch obsolete, would put it in the middle of a range growing to suit all budgets. According the publication's sources, the first of these new devices will be aimed at budget gamers, and will see the Switch presented in a more traditional handheld-first format. It'll replace removable Joy-Cons with fixed ones, and ditch their HD Rumble feature in order to bring costs down. This was confirmed with the announcement of the Nintendo Switch Lite. The second new version of the Nintendo Switch, going by the rumor, is a little harder to pin down, but would be a premium version of the console with "enhanced features targeted at avid videogamers." That's not to suggest it would be aiming for 4K or HDR visuals, but would more likely have features and services baked in that would accommodate the modern obsession with streaming to platforms like Twitch. The confirmation of the Switch Lite adds some weight to this report and could mean we will see another new premium Switch console at a future date. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/z89c8BNQCYa9cmZegSfBc6.jpg Nintendo Switch Lite (Image credit: Nintendo) E3 2019 rumors - untrue A report by Bloomberg suggested we could see the budget model launch as early as June, with E3 2019 proving a natural time to showcase the product. Nintendo squashed rumors of an E3 reveal and we ultimately got no word on Nintendo hardware during the Nintendo's E3 2019 livestream. However the Switch Lite was announced in July, 2019. The 5.0 firmware dig Though the Nintendo Switch’s 5.0 firmware update wasn’t up to much on the surface, hackers on Switchbrew dug into the upgrade and found evidence which suggests a hardware refresh is in the works. Switchbrew discovered references to a new T214 chip (which would be a small improvement on the current T210) as well as an updated printed circuit board and 8GB of RAM instead of the current 4GB. While any kind of chip upgrade could simply be Nintendo’s response to some hardware security problems which have emerged with the current SoC – like the homebrew hackers who have started creating pirated Switch titles – the new PCB and increased RAM suggest something more than this: a more powerful device. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/52Z3HcKjsyRXsVKXEGkbKh.jpg Labo's cardboard accessories show Nintendo's intense focus on peripherals (Image credit: Nintendo) It's important to note that the files uncovered by these Switchbrew members contain neither a timescale nor a definitive statement of intent from Nintendo. The Switch is proof that state-of-the-art technology isn't the sole key to success in a wider sense, but it’s important to remember that as far as handhelds are concerned, the Switch is at the cutting edge and Nintendo will need to keep it there. If these hardware upgrade rumors turn out to be true, Nintendo has plenty of time before it has to do any kind of hardware refresh. AR and VR support VR and AR support for the Switch never looked likely, with the MD of Nintendo France citing a lack of mainstream appeal for the technology back in 2018, but the Labo VR Kit shows Nintendo has changed its mind about the viability of VR. The Switch doesn't have the high resolution of most VR gaming rigs, so we could see an advanced model with 2K or 4K resolution to improve those close-up VR experiences. However, given the VR Kit is still focused mainly on children, we'd be surprised to see a visual overhaul simply for this one peripheral. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Ug8pVRPXdhmUVWNSBVzTYP.jpg Don't expect to see this anytime soon (Image credit: Nintendo) What about 3D? Another Nintendo patent came to light in early 2019: this time for a 3D sensor array that sits above your television, and creates a stereoscopic image in a similar way to the 3DS, meaning you wouldn't even need glasses. 3D visuals felt like a passing gimmick even with Nintendo's handheld consoles – and the troubled Microsoft Kinect camera will no doubt keep it wary of unnecessary TV peripherals. But getting convincing 3D imaging on standard 2D TVs may the step needed to bring 3D gaming mainstream. Could it support 4K? While Sony and Microsoft push at the 4K market, there isn’t really any big reason for Nintendo, the company that staunchly sets itself apart from other hardware producers, to follow suit. In the same interview where he dismissed VR, Nintendo France General Manager Philippe Lavoué also brushed off 4K saying that the technology has “not been adopted by the majority” and it would, therefore, be too early for Nintendo to jump in. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/7iKxgPFbjX2dFxaSbQfJDC.jpg Image credit: Nintendo Nintendo didn’t enter the HD console market until 2012 when it released the Wii U. This was around four years after Sony and Microsoft and at the point when more than 75% of US households actually had HD displays in their home. Miyamoto however has said he wished Nintendo had done the jump to HD sooner than this, saying that the display technology became popular around three years before Nintendo expected it to. It's expected that by 2020, 50% of US households will have adopted 4K technology and it might be at this point that Nintendo decides to join the 4K fray, rather than waiting until the 75% market saturation of before. This would chime in with the Wall Street Journal's report earlier this year that two new Nintendo Switch consoles are on the way: a budget, handheld version and a "premium" console. If the report is to be believed – and we have already seen the first of these rumored consoles announced – then we could be seeing a version of the console with "enhanced features targeted at avid videogamers." BT has suggested it could cut the dividend handed out to shareholders in order to invest in fibre to the premise (FTTP) infrastructure. Speculation that BT is preparing to cut its dividend for the first time since 2009 has been mounting, with some expecting an announcement in the company’s most recent financial results. However, such a move did not materialise, with CEO Philip Jansen doubling down on a promise to change the payment until the end of the current financial year. Openreach recruits more fibre engineersEE to launch 5G in 2019What is 5G? Everything you need to knowBT dividendIt is thought that some investors would be prepared to accept a cut if BT could prove the potential for long term gains. Others believe that investment in ‘full fibre’ infrastructure is essential given recent rollouts from rivals like Virgin Media and the emergence of ‘altnet’ providers like CityFibre. BT has increased its fibre to the premise (FTTP) rollout target to four million by 2021 and 15 million by the mid-2020s – if it there is a suitable investment and regulatory climate. Nationwide coverage could be achieved by 2023. At the company’s Annual General Meeting in London, Chairman Jan du Plessis reportedly said that BT would consider reducing the dividend, alongside other cost savings and borrowing, in order to fund the expansion. This could happen within the next two years. Jansen is overseeing the implementation of a restructuring plan introduced by former CEO Gavin Patterson that will see 13,000 jobs but and operations de-centralised to 30 sites around the UK. As part of the restructure, BT will vacate its London St Paul’s headquarters. It is hoped the changes will save £1.3 billion, allow the more streamlined company to react more rapidly to market trends, and means it can get closer to customers. In a bid to drive employee engagement and boost morale, BT is to award shares worth £50 million to staff every year. It has been a long time since the release of the iPhone 7 in 2016, and a lot has changed in smartphone design since that point. But at a new low price, the handset remains a great option for those who choose it, and is now the cheapest phone still sold by Apple. Another added benefit of this older handset is the enormous variety of cases designed and issued since its release, helped by the fact that iPhone 8 cases will fit the device too for the most part given that they share so much design-wise. Whether you are looking for something to pretty your phone up, a little customization, or a solid protective case, there are plenty of options at every price point. Read on for our pick of the best iPhone 7 cases currently on the market. These are products that we haven't had in our test labs, but based on our experts' opinion and knowledge of the most reputable brands around, we think these are worth looking at. Our selections, ranked with newer additions at the top, take into account online reviews, brand reputation, product capability, or unique features, to help you pick through the maze of choices available to you. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/pDyfDRFczYeyD2WQYVi8Ce.jpg Image credit: Apple Above many things, the iPhone 7 is a slim beast – that’s part of its appeal. It is a small handset, and therefore a blessing for those with smaller hands. Bulky cases can detract from this, but the official Apple Silicone Case is pleasingly slim. Boasting a grippy material which also improves resistance to scratches, shocks and falls, and available in a variety of color choices, this is an attractive no-fuss option for those looking for simple protection and decent looks. It’s available directly from Apple. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/xxJuBjpnKwnPue3RgMJmFi.jpg Image credit: Syncwire Taking the idea of no-fuss to its logical conclusion, we enter the large and sometimes dangerous land of the ultra-budget phone case. Mostly these are chunky plastic affairs that hold onto the various oils of the human hand with gusto, but there are nonetheless some worth considering if price is your main concern. The Syncwire UltraRock is solid, dependable and will offer reasonable protection from scuffs, scrapes and drops - but don’t expect more than that. It’s available from Amazon. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/6rvGw3e6X7NnxXDupTRcrm.jpg Image credit: OtterBox Sometimes simple cuts it - when nothing more is needed than protection, there are many phone cases which fit the bill. But sometimes a little more is needed, sometimes you might want something that’s a little left-field, and the Universe by OtterBox is just that. Offering protection and decent looks, it also features a mad, swappable module system. A battery, a card reader, camera parts and more can be added to augment the iPhone experience. This is one for those looking for something different in their life. You can buy it direct from OtterBox. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/kvxgh2265f9G599F63mNw3.jpg Image credit: Jimmycase Options for those who like to bundle their cards and cash with their smartphone in a case tend to be mostly of one persuasion - the foldable wallet case. While these are practical, they have trade-offs in terms of the relatively cumbersome rear, however there are certain options which keep a slim profile as well as providing practical storage. The endlessly customizable Jimmycase wallet case is one such example. With space for cash and cards on the rear, it also provides protection from drops, shocks and falls and looks good doing so. It’s available directly from Jimmycase. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/uLhduKY7X627zhPC99vod7.jpg Image credit: Wrappers Wrappers, a small company based in the UK, has been making bespoke fabric pouches and cases for Apple devices for over a decade. This option from the firm is an Alcantara pouch in a fetching shade of lilac, which will offer nice protection from scratches and scrapes. We particularly like the choice of fabric, recently evoked by Microsoft with its Surface line, which is soft, and which offers a nice premium feel. It’s available from Wrappers UK. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3y2ma56e9i33SBB7fsedxB.jpg Image credit: Kilponen It is well known that, of the many qualities of the iPhone 7, its battery life is not one. While most will be able to stretch the device to last through a day of usage, there are many who will not. The battery case is a life-saver in such situations, and this option from Kilponen is a good choice for many. Though bulky, it makes up for this with a battery capacity roughly three times that of the iPhone, in theory tripling battery life, and all for a very small outlay. This is available from Amazon. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Hc3sZHwpnLFTGA9aJVR8rF.jpg Image credit: Lastu There is something about wood, good honest grain - the smell and the feel are difficult to match. Only a few phone case makers have chosen to use this material in their designs, and few have managed to use it as well as Lastu. This Finnish manufacturer offers custom designs, your choice of finish (we particularly like the unique Kelo) and good thick rubber absorbers for proper protection. This is available directly from Lastu. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/mwuPNFbKjTccug4jSy5RuJ.jpg Image credit: Vesel For some, the need for wood goes beyond a look on the back of a case, it must instead be the prime material of the case. Vesel, with its wood series, crafts a unique frame for iPhones which provides protection without adding significant bulk. Boasting a precision finish, a strong 7000 series metal skeleton, and rugged good looks, this is a great choice for those after something unique and for whom money is not an issue. It’s available directly from Vesel. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/zQpYHnyiUvhH8uvhmMsPmY.jpg Image credit: Torras Torras has put out a phone case that's just slightly bigger than the iPhone 7 itself, which is perfect for the person who wants a simple, no-nonsense look for their phone. There's even a little 1mm raised lip around the camera lens to protect it from errant drops. It's obvious that this won't protect your phone as well as, say, an Otterbox, but for those who want to wrap their device in simple elegance, the Torras Slim Fit case will do the trick. Pick one up on Amazon here. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/SxqhgCxM5BEzYM3xtnRh2K.jpg Image credit: Spigen Spigen's Tough Armor series aims to provide solid protection at a low price. Its flexible TPU body envelops the phone, while a polycarbonate plate layers protection on the back. The latter even has a built-in kickstand if you like watching media on your phone. The Spigen Tough Armor [2nd Generation] iPhone 7/8 case is available on Amazon here. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/XrP5YEtToQbN7ZxvesMCom.jpg Image credit: Baisrke For all you marble lovers, here's the phone case for you. Baisrke has an inexpensive case that comes in several colors and hues accentuating white, black and pearlescent marble. The case itself is made of a soft rubber silicone, so don't expect much protection from serious drops. But if you can't live without this look, you can grab the Baisrke marble case on Amazon here. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/TV4pVaGWfs3ywy29nsvj8R.jpg Image credit: Caseology The Caseology iPhone 7 Parallax case has a neat design and attractive burgundy-on-gold look for those who want to dress up their phone a little differently than their peers. It's got multiple layers to help protect your phone from drops from plenty of angles. It's decent protection and good looks at an affordable price – perfect for your less-expensive iPhone 7. Pick up the Caseology Parallax case on Amazon here. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Hdt4seWw8QXZaLtSggbzfJ.jpg Image credit: Dockem Most people would probably rather keep their phone unadorned by a case, particularly when their phone is as stylish as the iPhone 7. That’s why a sleeve can be a good option, as it keeps your iPhone protected while it’s in your bag or pocket, but shows it off in full when you’re using your phone. This Dockem sleeve also stands out thanks to its attractive faux-leather design and its low price tag, though of course, like any other sleeve it won’t protect your phone while you’re using it, so this isn’t one for the clumsy. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/EPTHd54iUjH6EJpnjHxahJ.jpg Image credit: Ranvoo Your iPhone 7 might be metal, but most cases aren’t, which means you’re inevitably left covering it in cheaper plastic, or pricey but still different leather. There are some exceptions though, such as this Ranvoo bumper, which although plastic on the inside has a layer of aluminum on the outside, and it comes in all the same colors as the iPhone 7 itself. As it’s just a bumper rather than a full case the back of your phone is left uncovered and the bumper itself is almost invisible – unless you choose a color that contrasts your phone, rather than matches it. The skeletal nature of the bumper means it’s not the most protective thing around, but the edges are raised, so even if your phone hits the ground on the front or back it should remain safe as long as the surface it collides with is flat. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/tZkcPDTT7CrvvRU33GjdW4.jpg Image credit: Uprosa The construction of Uprosa’s cases is entirely pedestrian, as they’re simply made of flexible plastic. However, their designs are something else. Uprosa’s case graphics come from images submitted by researchers and science students, whose job it is to look at stuff under microscopes, so the images you see on these cases are shots taken using microscope photography. Here’s the description of the ‘flamingo’ design seen in the image: “The same chemical (citric acid) that makes a lemon tart forms colliding pink oceanic waves through the lens of a microscope.†Brian Cox would approve. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/y6Hp5Pt9ivDyhoMkuBp4N4.jpg Image credit: Griffin A case is always a balancing act between making your phone look as it should and keeping it protected. The Griffin Survivor Clear has a shot at gaming the system, with clear walls and built-up bumpers designed to take the force of any impacts while keeping the look intact. Sure, you can tell there’s a case on your iPhone, no denying it, but at least you can see the color of aluminum you chose underneath. Griffin says the shell has 6H hardness, which is as hard as some tempered glass, and provides great scratch resistance. The case can also take drops of 1.2m, and as it doesn’t cost a bomb you shouldn’t feel too bad about replacing the Survivor should an unfortunate incident occur. Better than a bashed-up iPhone, right? http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/dmJR6ocujBgxDEZ6ScWXU4.jpg Image credit: Belkin Here’s an iPhone 7 case for a particular niche: the runner. It’s a neoprene armband case that lets you take your phone out for a jog without a) holding the thing or having it move around in your pocket. Unless you go on fairly long runs where taking a phone is a good idea anyway, the best reason to get a Sport-Fit is to use your phone as a GPS tracking tool, using an app like RunKeeper. The combination effectively turns your phone into the equivalent of a fully featured GPS sport watch. The case can also hold a debit/credit card, meaning you only need to find somewhere to stash your keys. And earrings, perhaps? http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/RELHV5GWjdgjAB2AqFbmnF.jpg Image credit: MNML If you're looking for a case, but don't want to add any heft or thickness to the iPhone 7, this is the one you're after. MNML makes, you guessed it, cases with minimal aesthetic. They are cheap and come in a variety of colors. Better yet, they'll work on an iPhone 8 as well, should you have one laying around or plan to buy one. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/QR6tGokdNpZC9wAGKGBEN4.jpg Image credit: UAG Let’s stop messing around, it’s time for a case that looks tough as nails. The UAG Trooper is a light-but-hardy case that also doubles as a wallet, as its back flips open to reveal a compartment in which you can store four cards. It has rubbery sides and uses hard polycarbonate for that lid on the back. The Trooper adds a fair bit of bulk to the iPhone 7, but not a great deal of weight. For a higher-end feel, the Monarch-series UAG cases use bonus metal and leather, although there’s no card slot. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/AandsymyDkfC55tnvDE2N4.jpg Image credit: OtterBox We’ve been using OtterBox Defender cases on and off for years now: they’re veterans of the scene. While they add bulk to your phone, their aim is to offer complete protection that’ll leave your handset looking fresh 12 months down the line, and for a reasonable price too. They use a rubber inner cover, a hard plastic outer and an inbuilt screen protector, only leaving the Apple logo and camera on the back somewhat exposed to the elements. While the iPhone 7 is already waterproof, there are port protectors too. These will stop any muck clogging up your ports, perfect if you really do treat your phone a bit rough. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/SeD6w5fZEEPhPHiHYtcayd.jpg Image credit: Tech21 Back in the old days, Tech21 cases used to have orange blobs peppered throughout, as a way to show off the fancy shock-absorbing material the company uses. The Tech21 Evo Elite, though, is a case that color-matches the classic iPhone shades on its sides, with a transparent back to retain as much of that iPhone flavor as possible. Inside there’s still some of Tech21’s magic FlexShock material, which is what absorbs the force of impact to stop your phone from getting damaged. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/RMpQv5WmwmGzKLMcVy3rSX.jpg Image credit: Spigen Spigen's Slim Armor CS case for the iPhone 7 is a popular one, and the numerous color options for the hard shell can help it match the color of your iPhone. It features a soft and hard shell for extra protection for your phone. If you don’t fancy carrying around an external battery pack 24/7, this case can help. It’s an official Apple accessory that shoehorns a 2,365mAh battery into a smooth silicone case, roughly doubling the iPhone 7’s stamina in real terms. The downside is that it gives your iPhone a humpback, the battery unit sticking out from the casing. There’s also a ‘lip’ at the bottom that further spoils the phone’s lines. Wireless headphones are great, as they cut down the hassle of endlessly tangled wires, and pair easily with whatever device you use – if that device supports Bluetooth wireless headphones. If it doesn't, don't worry, because high-end audio brand RHA has come up with an alternative! The RHA Wireless Flight Adapter is a lightweight box with a 3.5mm headphone jack, so you can plug it into any device that has an appropriate port, and the adapter also connects to your wireless headphones, so you can stream music easily. These are the best wireless headphones you can buyWhat about the best wireless earbuds? This is what we thought of the RHA TrueConnectThat's really useful for devices like airplane entertainment systems (it even has the dual-jack setup you still get on some planes), or a Nintendo Switch, that don't facilitate Bluetooth pairing with wireless headphones, so you can listen to music on even more devices. With a 16-hour battery life, you'll be able to use the adaptor for the entirety of most flights (even New York City to Hong Kong, half way around the world), or for a long gaming session on any of the best Nintendo Switch games. You can charge the device up through USB-C connection, so it'll power up quickly too. The RHA Wireless Flight Adaptors are available immediately for $49.95 / £39.95, and with Amazon Prime Day just around the corner, you'll certainly also be able to pick up a cheap pair of wireless headphones – perfect for if you really hate cables, but want to be able to play Switch games or in-flight entertainment on headphones. Investing in your own IT infrastructure is a significant cost, regardless as to whether you're a startup or an expanding business. It's not just the servers, but all aspects of your network that you will need to buy, and for some companies this can be prohibitive to growth. Even worse is that after a few years this hardware will need replacing as an additional cost. However, advances in cloud computing mean that an alternative that is now available: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), in which a supplier already has their own servers and networks, and you simply rent the resources you need. The big advantage is that pricing is much less than if you bought your own hardware, making it much easier for small companies to set up an extensive and professional IT infrastructure at the fraction of the cost. Additionally, because you are only paying for what you need, there's no over-spend required for redundant systems, as IaaS is fully scaleable for as and when you need it. Here we'll feature the best in IaaS providers. We've also highlighted the best business intelligence toolsWant your company or services to be added to this buyer’s guide? It provides on demand cloud computing to individuals, businesses and governments. AWS is a cloud-based program for building business solutions using integrated web services. While it offers much more, AWS is considered an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution as it supplies the hardware infrastructure that allows businesses to build their web-based solutions in the Cloud rather than physically in their premises. Amazon Web Services is broken into four key areas: Compute, Storage and Content Delivery and Networking. As AWS offers an extensive array of admin controls via their secure Web client, these can all be controlled by you. From here clients also have access to auditing, encryption key creation, monitoring and logging amongst others. AWS will manage all the hardware and system administration. Your infrastructure requirements can be increased or reduced as much as you like. This reduces the resources required to having this occur on site. Under the ‘Computing’ section AWS offers access to EC2 (Amazon Elastic Computer Cloud) web services. This gives you to have control over your online computing resources as well as enabling you to run and acquire servers if needs be. AWS has three different pricing models; ‘Pay as you Go’, ‘Save when you reserve’ and ‘Pay less using more’. To get prices for all these you need to contact Sales directly. However, AWS does offer a free tier. This offers users certain services for 12-months and after that you have to choose to sign up for any of the plans above or to cancel your AWS subscription. Users have mentioned that there is a steep learning curve for using EC2 and this can be a time-consuming process. Some users have also reported issues when trying to contact customer service. You can sign up for Amazon Web Services herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/biAnU7c4jnVEqzRVdXWNCC.jpg Image Credit: IBM IBM Cloud (formerly known as IBM Soft Layer) does not offer just IaaS, but a wide range of services and not all of them are cloud based either. It covers both virtual and hardware –based servers, composed of public, private and management networks. As hardware and virtual-based servers are combined into one on demand cloud-platform, you have complete infrastructure control. IBM refer to their hardware servers as ‘bare metal’. These provide clients with sole access to their entire server. This reduces the ‘noisy neighbor’ effect and greatly improves performance. IBM Cloud is integrated and managed by a single system that can be controlled via web portal, API (Application Programming Interface) or mobile apps. The solution also offers full server customization. This means that everything that is included in the server is handpicked by you. This way you do not have to pay for features that you might never use. IBM Cloud offers a ‘Lite’ tier. This has no time limit, will not ask for credit card details and includes 256MB of Cloud Foundry Memory. After this you have the option of the ‘Pay as you Go’ Tier where you only pay for what you use. The website has a calculator which you can use to estimate costs. If neither of these are suitable, you can contact IBM for a subscription package tailored to suit your needs. Users have noted a slight delay when loading pages. Other users have mentioned it is heavily geared for developers which can be frustrating for those with not much experience in this area. You can sign up for IBM Cloud herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oEtAJJVyGycxsPNBfmVgrD.jpg Image Credit: Google Google Cloud Platform is a suite of cloud computing services that is run on the same infrastructure used by Google internally for its end-user products. It provides Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service and Serverless Computing. The platform was initially released in 2008. Google Cloud Platform enables users to create business solutions using Google-provided, modular web services. While the platform is an IaaS, it also comes with a managed platform and pre-built web services utilities. With Google Cloud Platform you can use Google’s web services to build a highly customized solution to meet all your company’s needs. The platform makes sophisticated networking look easy. With Google Cloud Platform, it is quite straightforward to create a virtual network. This would include private and public subnets upon which to arrange your virtual machines. As Google Cloud Platform relies heavily on Linux, it helps to be familiar with the Linux command line. This will make the process of setting up firewalls, gateways and routers much smoother. Google advertises no upfront costs to start, with Pay as you go billing for the services you do use. Google also state that they do not charge termination fees. Some users have noted that it can be tricky to setup for the less experienced users. You can sign up for Google Cloud Platform herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/soEfAuzxeracF8qAcF79iG.jpg Image Credit: Microsoft Microsoft Azure was created by Microsoft to build, test, deploy and manage applications and services though their data centres. It was released in 2010. Microsoft Azure not only offers information as service but also Software as a Service and Platform as a Service. With Azure, clients can use the services purely on the cloud or it can be combined with any existing applications, data centre or infrastructure you may already have in place. Microsoft Azure can be used to deploy a wide variety of provisioned and managed infrastructures using its IaaS solution. It can fit any of your business needs such as storage, networking, and web hosting. The utility fully manages all of your infrastructure. The platform gives you the freedom to move away from having your servers based on premises which can reduce costs. This removes the need for an on-site support team as this is all now looked after by Microsoft Azure. The most surprising aspect of Microsoft Azure is how friendly it is to Linux users. While the framework is Windows, many Linux distributions can be run on it. The platform offers a 12-month free tier that comes with access to all popular services, $200 credit and over 25 ‘Always Free’ services. If this does not suit your needs Azure has all their prices laid out in incredible detail on their website. They also offer a cost calculator and a ‘Pay as you go’ service. Each price can be customized to your needs. However, the price will increase if you require more add-ons. Users have complained that there’s no official ‘Getting Started’ manual. Due to the range of services offered, this can be overwhelming for new users. You can sign up for Microsoft Azure herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/dVmp9YLdJAZK9UKRVuNLmK.jpg Image Credit: ServerCentral ServerCentral provides cloud infrastructure, IaaS, managed storage and services. The company was founded in 2000. ServerCentral manages to make the transition to a new IaaS provider seamless. This is important as downtime for any company needs to be kept low as possible. Due to the variety of technologies and options available this transition is made easy. ServerCentral offers 24/7 support which includes a range of infrastructure technicians and data recovery experts. There are very few compatibility concerns when it comes to ServerCentral. Your infrastructure is sent through a secure connection to the platforms servers that was chosen to support your working needs. All software is agnostic so will work across all platforms. The servers themselves are very high spec. They have enough CPU and memory needed to match most organizations needs. You can sign up for ServerCentral herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DgAvkVmCTx9tfZH7dbKQ75.jpg Image Credit: Pixabay Other IaaS options to considerWe've covered some of the major players above, but there are many more. Oracle, Verizon, AT&T, Citrix, VMware, and other major IT companies can be expected to offer some form of IaaS platform for prospective customers. However, we're going to widen this feature to cover some of the best of the rest that you might not have normally considered, but are definitely worth taking a look at: Digital Ocean has a simple but powerful set of features for deploying your own cloud. Referred to as "droplets" these are effectively network clusters that you can build and scale up for the applications you need to run, whether hosted services to CI/CD, through to AI and machine learning environments. Pricing is simple and easy to understand, with "droplets" available with different sets of CPU, memory, and transfer available, starting from $5 per month. Linode makes it seriously easy to set up a virtual server environment in the cloud, with the process taking nothing more than a few seconds. You simply select your plan, your Linux distro for your server, then your regional preference - and then you're ready to go. As you've probably noticed, this is a dedicated Linux hosting solution which needs to be taken into account if you have Windows applications to run. All things being good, you should find it simple and easy to get started. OpenStack is an open source IT infrastructure project that provides the tools and software for managing your own public or private clouds. While it may not sound so straight-forward as some of the other options featured, it does allow you more control and you can better leverage your IT knowledgebase here. In other words, rather than being reliant on pre-existing modules you can build and customize your own according to your needs. And as it's open source, you can have full control over every feature of the process. Apache Cloudstack is another open source IaaS software platform, that allows you to have complete control over how you manage your infrastructure. Like Open Stack, this means you can take control of a large number of virtual machines and make it scaleable to your needs. Additionally, Apache Cloudstack integrates with a number of hypervisors for cloud deployment and development, and offers both a web interface as well as command line and a full-featured RESTful API. Wasabi is one of the bigger independents in the IaaS market. While its infrastructure isn't as strong as Azure or AWS, it does deliver on a much cheaper price. It's also much easier to use and set up, which makes Wasabi something to consider if you run a small or medium business and have limited IT expertise behind you, yet need to be able to handle, manage, and deploy a secure cloud environment without too many technical challenges. Etisalat aims to stay ahead of its Middle East peers in 5G race
sincity posted a topic in Technology
UAE-based telecom operator Etisalat is investing more than AED 4b in rolling out 5G network base stations this year in a bid to stay ahead of its Middle East peers. Etisalat, which operates in 15 markets across the Middle East, Asia and Africa, is the first in the region to offer 5G commercially. “We have launched and broadcasting 5G network over 1,000 new base stations scattered all over the UAE. The number of base stations will be increased year after year but it will take some time to cover 100% of the UAE,” Dr. Ahmed Bin Ali, senior vice-president for corporate communications at Etisalat Group, told TechRadar Middle East after unveiling Huawei’s Mate 20 X 5G device. Right now, he said that Etisalat is focusing more on the populated areas of the UAE but the 5G journey had started in 2014 and installed the first 5G base station in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region at Dubai Expo 2020 site in May last year. It is also the first regional operator to provide 5G coverage inside an airport in Abu Dhabi and to launch a 5G smartphone. New avenues of growthAt around 20 times faster than 4G and with ultra-low latency of one millisecond compared to 15-20 millisecond on 4G network, he said that 5G technology will enable users to stream live 4K resolution video anywhere at any time, with virtually no lag. With the introduction of 5G in the UAE, Sukhdev Singh, executive director at research and consulting services provider Kantar, said that service providers would look at new avenues of business growth which could be driven more by enterprise solutions, at least to begin with. According to the Ericsson Mobility Report, 60 million 5G subscriptions are forecast for the end of 2024 in the Middle East and North Africa region, representing 3% of the 1.9 billion global mobile subscriptions. Etisalat had signed agreements with Ericsson and Huawei to roll out 5G networks in the UAE. Bin Ali said that the current 5G speed is about 1GHz in the UAE but the speed will grow faster next year. David Wang, Country Manager for Huawei Consumer Business Group in the UAE, said that Huawei began developing the 5G technologies in 2009 and invested significantly into developing 5G across its device, network and chipset offerings. This allowed Huawei to amass a number of patents that are synergistic with its smartphones, facilitating rapid iterations towards better 5G experiences, he said. According to IPlytics, an authorised patent data firm, Huawei holds 15.05% of the world’s 5G patents, followed by Nokia with 13.82%, Samsung with 12.74% and LG with 12.34%. Huawei sells 100m devices in just 149 dayshttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/sqmeWZE8yynLVneAsWJfGZ.jpg Wang said that Huawei’s global shipments reached 100 million in just 149 days this year and it took 198 days to achieve the same figure in 2018. It took 254 days in 2017, 287 days in 2016 and 355 days in 2015 to achieve the 100m mark. Moreover, he said the dual-SIM Mate 20 X 5G device supports both NSA (non-standalone) and SA (standalone) architectures for a smooth transition of the evolving 5G network. The device will be available at Etisalat stores from July 12 with a price tag of AED 3,699, which includes 5% value-added tax, ahead of the official July 18 launch. What is meant by NSA and SA?Many operators across the globe are beaming 5G over the existing 4G infrastructure as the final frequency for 5G is not yet fixed. NSA means beaming 5G over the existing 4G infrastructure and SA means beaming 5G over the dedicated spectrum. Huawei Mate 20 X supports both NSA and SA under 6GHz frequencies, some of which are bands traditionally used by previous standards, and in the millimetre-wave (between 24 GHz and 86GHz). TRA has allocated the C band (3.3GHz-3.8GHz, where satellite operators also use these frequencies) for 5G deployment in the UAE. The new frequency bands for 5G deployment will be finalised when ITU (International Telecommunications Union) members meet at the World Radio Communication Conference (WRC) 2019 in Egypt. The WRC takes place between October 28 to November 22 and is organised by the ITU to review and revise radio regulations. Consumers won’t flock to 5G as quickly as they did with 4GWi-Fi 6 and 5G crucial for digital transformationr5G deployment will be the hottest topic of discussion at ITU conference in Egypthttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/aufMnzhAS6o -
The best headphones under Rs 2,000 don't come with any of the bells and whistles that one can see on flagship headphones. However, there are only but a few budget-friendly earphones out there in the market that really provide that pristine audio listening experience. This article is the perfect guide to help you choose between options so that you can purchase the best pair of headphones under Rs 2,000 that are tailored to meet your needs. The pairs listed below offer a budget solution without compromising on sound. Starting from Bluetooth headsets to over-the-ear headphones and headsets with a microphone to earpieces without a mic, the list covers every category so that you can choose what fits your bill. If price isn't an issue, you can check out our overall list of the best headphones available in the market now. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oTnBfxBnvrckZSd8vP7sQ4.jpg 1More Piston Fit 1More isn't a popular company here in India, yet. However, it does make excellent headphones which are also value for money purchases for consumers. The 1More Piston Fit in-ear headphones are the most affordable in-ears available in the market today which deliver balanced and clear sound. The 45-degree angled design of the front cover fits comfortably in the ears, with two extra ear tips you switch between, depending on your ear shape, but some may find the silicon ear tips to be a little flimsy. The sound quality is detailed but low-frequency sounds are lacking making the bass appear weak. If you're somebody who values details over bass, then these headphones are made for you. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/viAW6TddRp44AhiwKAhefa.jpg SoundMagic PL30+ C SoundMagic PL30+ C is well-known for its perfectly balanced audio output. There isn't going to be any need for you to fiddle with different equaliser settings to extract the best sound out of the headphones; the company has already done it for you. However, if you are inclined towards a specific type of acoustics, just choose the default equaliser setting for that respective niche and you’re done. The appearance of the PL30+ C looks quite premium with its metal housing and quality construction. The headphones come in an attractive packaging which consists of a hard case, 5 sets of earbuds and a couple of hooks. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/H52QyczeKPu7CtajjTQ7uj.jpg Sennheiser CX 275 S Sennheiser is one of the most premium audio equipment manufacturing brands in the world. The CX 275 S is an entry-level offering from the company for the budget consumer. The headphones still manage to offer decent sound output which is a bit more inclined towards the treble. The Sennheiser CX 275 S fits quite well in the ears and features a composed yet premium build quality. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/iEQm8bJP9kh2H8AL5oNeBb.jpg SoundMagic E10C These are another pair of exceptional headphones from SoundMagic. Just like the PL30+ C, the E10C is also tuned quite well with a subtle emphasis on the bass. In our opinion, this is one of best headsets for bass lovers under Rs 2,000. Moving on to the build quality, the SoundMagic E10C kills it with metal construction and tangle-free wires. The retail package comprises of a plethora of earbuds, premium hard case, clip and a couple of adapters. The E10C is currently available in four attractive color choices. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/SJC4pjtTduemerGkoxyieN.jpg Sony MDR-EX255AP The Sony MDR-EX255AP is a decent pair of in-ear headphones with good sound quality. It sports an extensive range of frequency responses and delivers balanced audio output. Little adjustments to the equaliser can reveal the true capabilities of the headset. Build quality-wise, the mid-range earphones are at par with the competition. The semi-braided wires along with the metal casing look and feel quite premium. With real-silicon earbuds, the Sony MDR-EX255AP fits quite well in the ears. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/sA2g7wygyUMNgeYdsTcua3.jpg Sony MDR-XB450 These on-ear headphones are a paradise for bass lovers. With its huge 30 mm drivers, the Sony MDR-XB450 is capable of producing some extreme bass outputs which are quite unmatchable at its price range. However, this extra bass doesn’t mean that the headsets have weak treble. The MDR-XB450 fares quite well in the mids and the highs too. Talking of the exterior finishing, the Sony MDR-XB450 looks quite magnificent with its flashy metallic housing and well-cushioned ear pads. However, the build quality is not too good for long-term usage as some external glitches tend to appear after a year of extensive use. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/yVi8LM2NgUHGe9ZhZPCouW.jpg Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro HD These headphones offer great build quality with premium metal housing and sturdy cables. Look-wise, there are few headsets in this price range that can beat the Mi Pro HD. Xiaomi’s Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro HD is the arguably the best you can get if your budget is Rs 2,000. This is a truly high-end earpiece which is capable of producing top notch sound output as well as unrivaled sound recording ability. The only downside is that the Pro HD requires an extensive burn out period to deliver to its full potential. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/HNdudGH8oX2MSh9HpyjutX.jpg Sony Extra Bass MDR-XB50 The Sony Extra Bass MDR-XB50 is another set of bass-oriented headphones from the Japanese company. The earpiece produces exceptional lows with well-balanced mids and highs. The only drawback of this headset is its comparatively lower maximum volume. The MDR-XB50 is a decent looking product with a glossy metallic finished housing. However, the best part is its true silicon earbuds which fit really well in the ears. Sony also bundles some additional earbuds of different sizes and a carry pouch along with the earphones. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DBiHdQjidiHNkr9DQFRgqe.jpg SoundMagic E30 in-ear headphones The SoundMagic E30 was launched way back in 2013, but still, it is quite relevant to current standards. The earpieces generate a very well-balanced sound output with unmatchable clarity. The best part is that you can enjoy pure music which is not distorted by excessive bass. The E30 focusses more on the treble side while maintaining a composed, yet tight, bass. When it comes to building quality, the SoundMagic E30 fails to impress. The headphones are made of cheap plastic with sub-standard finishing. The earpieces are designed to be worn over the ears with its cables going around your earlobes. If properly plugged in, the E30 provides exceptional noise cancellation and are quite comfortable too. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/eAcLhxRJ55aJ8uafyUmUcC.jpg Audio-Technica ATH-AX1iS The Audio-Technica ATH-AX1iS is a great pair of over-the-ear headphones which cost less than Rs 2,000. It offers well-tuned sound output with a somewhat composed bass. These earpieces also feature an inline microphone and volume control keys that work with any Android or iOS device. Talking about the build quality, the ATH-AX1iS feels quite flimsy and the finishing is not really up to the mark. However, the headset is surprisingly durable and would not break off that easily. Last but not the least, the Audio-Technica ATH-AX1iS fits really well on the ears and you won’t feel uneasy even after extended usage. Still haven't found what you're looking for? While today's Nintendo news has understandably been dominated by the announcement of the ultra-portable Switch Lite, it appears that the House of Mario is also quietly planning a revision of the original Nintendo Switch's hardware, according to a new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing. The new Nintendo Switch Lite undermines what made the original Switch specialBest Nintendo Switch games: must-have games to play in 2019Nintendo Switch Online nears 10 million usersAs seen in the filing, Nintendo has requested a 'Class II Permissive Change', which if granted would allow the company to make minor changes to the console without having to go through the entire certification process again – this pretty much guarantees the filing has nothing to do with the rumored Nintendo Switch successor. Nintendo has requested a "Change of SoC type" and "Change of NAND Memory type" in the filing, which, as the company has noted, would mean the "CPU board is changed due to the above two components." http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/QYgZRdv344JTkFi93j4Z5K.png Image credit: FCC SoC refers to the current Switch's Nvidia Tegra X1 'system on a chip', which houses both the CPU and GPU, while NAND memory is another term for flash storage. What's currently unknown is whether Nintendo plans to significantly upgrade the components to deliver things like faster loading times or more storage space, or if it's simply looking to reduce costs by employing newer and potentially cheaper parts. There's also the possibility that Nintendo is looking to bring the original Switch in line with its new Switch Lite, with is said to feature a "more power-efficient chip layout" according to The Verge. Based off the book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Good Omens is an addictive, bonkers yet heart-warming tale about good and evil, friendship, demons, angels and a future-gazing witch. It also doesn't hurt that it's pretty British (in a good way) and has an all-star cast. The series can be binged in one weekend - or one sitting if you can't face waiting a whole night for the final few episodes. For the bibliophiles out there, the TV series brings a few fresh characters and twists to the story, but is also faithful enough to the book to give those who have been fans for nearly thirty years a real treat. Created by Michael Connelly but brilliantly brought to life by actor Titus Welliver, the series follows the exploits of LA Homicide detective Harry Bosch and features enough grit to pave the longest of driveways. This is no surprise - the series has been created by Eric Overmyer, who was part of the alumni that created The Wire. Bosch is another show that has been put together by Amazon Studios - proving that streaming services are becoming just as powerful as the HBOs of the world when it comes to producing compelling drama. Bosch Season 4 has now landed on Amazon Prime, continuing the saga of Harry Bosch and it comes with a nice uplift in quality too, building season upon season to become one of our favourite shows on Prime at the moment. Number of seasons on Amazon Prime: 5 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bwAoVCW5avTgjX3uuJYyz8.jpg Goliath Billy Bob Thornton stars as a washed-up lawyer looking for a big break who stumbles on to a big case that may well give him the solace he needs. Made by David E Kelly who loves a bit of courtroom drama, having already created Boston Legal, The Practice and Ally McBeal, the show works well as a standalone series but there's talk that it may get a second season. Goliath is part of Amazon's Original series of TV shows. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 2 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/kAD4XGSV24yotS48BezETL.jpg Good Girls Revolt Let me set the stage for this one: It's 1969, and there's a war going on in America. The war is being fought in business offices around the country and the group leading the charge are women in the workforce, fighting for equal rights and equal acknowledgement for the work they've performed for years. Good Girls Revolt is set in this backdrop, at a fictional news outlet where the women have for too long been swept under the rug. The show scores major points for its poignant subject matter – both in the way that it covers the struggles of women in the workplace pre-1970, but also in the way it handles talking about the American history that the women in question are tasked with covering. Part raunchy history lesson, part stellar drama, Good Girls Revolt is a smart interpretation of a still-ongoing issue. Seasons on Amazon Prime Instant Video: 1 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/MKjVmFKJBjmVqHCuk5m5qE.jpg Hand of God Last seen in Sons of Anarchy, Ron Perlman has moved from the mad world of biker gangs into the stranger world of law. Perlman plays a vice-riddled barrister who, after suffering a breakdown, starts to believe he is a messenger from god. The full first season for Hand of God arrived on Amazon Prime, after a successful pilot. A second season is also available, which will sadly be the last as Amazon has decided to not renew the show. This is a shame as it may not be a light-hearted ride - but it is one drama that takes dark turn after dark turn and is all the better for it. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 2 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/pnPw8jtVNgUfsDDxgF8K6X.jpg The Last Tycoon F Scott Fitzgerald may be known for The Great Gatsby and Tender Is The Night but The Last Tycoon - his last and unfinished novel - is perhaps his most ambitious piece of work. It peels away the glitz and glamour of Hollywood in the '30s to show a time when backstabbing was the norm, fascism was on the rise and everyone had an unbelievable amount of money. Kelsey Grammer is superb as movie mogul Pat Brady, while Matt Bomer is also great as Monroe Stahr, the up and coming film exec who wants to make it big. The Last Tycoon is occasionally flawed but it's a sumptuous watch. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 1 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/69080978c6302d27e74a8cceaab2e1cb.jpg Downton Abbey Like watching fictional posh people live their lives in early-twentieth century opulence? You're not alone – millions of people tuned in to Downton Abbey during its TV run, and it's now available to stream in its entirety on Amazon Prime Video. Following the trials and tribulations of the Crawley family on the titular Downton Abbey estate, it's a kitchen sink drama of sorts – except all the cutlery is made of silver, and it's an army of servants doing the washing up. Seasons on Amazon Prime Video: 7 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/R8koHHSZGQeSruvCehp9Mo.jpg Sneaky Pete Sneaky Pete's plot maybe a little cliche - a con man assumes the identity of someone else to try and make a new break in the world - but Giovanni Ribisi is superb as Marius, the titular character and there's plenty of intrigue to keep you glued to this new Amazon Original. Interestingly, the show is co-created by Bryan Cranston which makes him the streaming king, given he's done so well with Breaking Bad on Netflix. Don't expect Sneaky Pete to be as intense as Breaking Bad - it's a crime caper, yes, but it doesn't take itself too seriously. As of March 2018, the second season of Sneaky Pete has landed on Amazon. The premise is that Marius is on the cusp of starting fresh and leaving all of his mess behind. But that'd hardly make a compelling second season, would it? Luckily for fans he's dragged back into the drama kicking and screaming. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 3 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/4333fc408283a71d96cc0f896168c9cc.jpg Transparent Anything Netflix can do, Amazon Prime can do better it seems, especially when it comes to winning a Golden Globe. Netflix may have made history by being the first streaming service to win a Golden Globe, courtesy of the acting talents of Kevin Spacey in House of Cards, but Amazon went and topped this by winning the Best TV Show prize in 2014 for Transparent. It was much deserved. Transparent is everything you want in a TV show. It's heartwarming, funny and packs a real punch about a subject that doesn't get enough attention: transgenderism. Jeffrey Tambor's Maura Pfefferman is a television character we hope will be around for a long time. The fourth season will be available to stream from 22 September. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 4 Comedyhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/0d11ba55dd2f63464835e07d0a65f204.jpg Catastrophe From the minds of Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney comes one of the funniest, most well-written sitcom in years. The plot is slight: a one-night stand turns into a relationship once Sharon announces she is pregnant. But the series contains some of the most cut-to-the-bone humour seen on TV. Combine this with a nice slab of pathos - nestled among many a sex joke - and what you have is a modern classic. Check out the fourth and final season of the show on Amazon Prime now. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 4 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GYAtuADTXqnY9uTsEWcWLk.jpg Comrade Detective Comrade Detective is a weird gem on Amazon. Starring Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the show is a parody of gritty American buddy cop shows and Communist Propaganda from the Cold War. It's an unusual combination, but it works. Each episode is presented as though it's a remastered real episode of a lost Romanian Communist Propaganda series from the 80s which was used to entertain and promote Communist ideals. The entire show was filmed in Romania with Romanian actors and then dubbed over by Tatum and Gordon-Levitt. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 1 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5sFuuSNzfZeZDFVm9J3Sch.jpg The Grand Tour Clarkson, Hammond and the other one are back for Grand Tour: Season 3. Well, we kind of knew that they would be as they all have massive contracts that mean we will be seeing quite a few seasons of the Definitely Not Top Gear But Quite A Bit Like Top Gear show. This season sees Clarkson drive a fast car, Hammond drive a faster car and nearly die, and the other one drive a fast car considerably slower than the rest. If you enjoy watching middle aged men burn rubber in the middle of the desert, like a scene out of Mad Max: Fury Road, then this is for you. And if we haven't quite convinced you yet - Gizmodo offered up this quote about the show: "Some men doing stuff for no clearly defined reason." Lovely stuff. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 3 (new episodes weekly) http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/dZtbr4ZNmjL3VctMs6HoL5.jpg I Love Dick Recently graduating from Amazon Originals pilot to fully fledged TV show, I Love Dick is a great subversive watch. The show stars Kevin Bacon and is based on the celebrated book that looks at a married couple who are having marriage issues and their relationship with college professor, Dick. Bacon is on top form as the charismatic Dick and the show's multiple POV storytelling (Rashomon style) works well. After her husband confesses he's been having an affair, Midge drunkenly gets on stage at a comedy club and discovers that she's utterly hilarious. In a time when women aren't encouraged to be publicly funny, Midge pursues her new-found comedic talent in the male-dominated stand up comedy world. Seasons to watch on Amazon Prime: 2 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/141049a921410c0c0a8942a39ea80157.jpg Mad Dogs The UK version of Mad Dogs was a breath of fresh air when it first aired. Well, the first season was then it all went a little too strange. This remake - green-lit from Amazon's burgeoning Originals series - takes the best from the UK version and mixes it with a plot that's a little easier to follow and humour that's more laugh out loud than pitch black. The premise is the same: a bunch of mates go and visit one friend at his luxury villa to celebrate his early retirement, only for murder, mayhem and mind-boggling plot developments to ensue. A touch of genius is the recasting of Ben Chaplin. While he played the rich, retiring Alvo in the UK version here he gets to try his luck in a bigger and better role. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 1 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/66413944d5db85b72bc2ff5df40c88d4.jpg Mozart in the Jungle Now into its fourth series, Mozart in the Jungle was this surprise winner at the 2015 Golden Globes, where it won Best Comedy Series. The show is a comedy set in the strange world of classical music. Gael García Bernal plays young conductor Rodrigo who replaces a retiring conductor played by Malcolm McDowell. Based loosely on a true story and created by the likes of Jason Schwartzman and Roman Coppola, it's well worth a watch. Seasons on Amazon Prime Video: 4 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/f3b17f82033a467f9f6a087fa73656bd.jpg Parks and Recreation Parks and Rec is a joy of a show. Originally seen as a quasi spin-off of the Office - using the same documentary style camerawork, awkward pauses, asides to camera - it soon grew from an amusing first season, about the goings on in the parks department of Pawnee, to a comedy phenomenon that spanned a fantastic seven seasons. It's not just the script that makes it great, it's also the characters - headed up by the ever-brilliant Amy Poehler. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 7 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/4deac08ac33584d05fc072cc8ef97b01.jpg Red Oaks The '80s is the en vogue decade when it comes to nostalgia. Not only are Seth Gordon and Adam Goldberg mining the era for their superb prime-time sitcom The Goldbergs, Red Oaks has appeared to prove that it is respectable to set shows in the '80s. Amazon-exclusive Red Oaks - made by another Green, this time David Gordon - focuses on David, a tennis player at the Red Oaks country club and his summer shenanigans. Great casting - Jennifer Grey! - some brilliant nods to '80s films, a short run time means this is a series you can eat up in one neon-fuelled sitting. The third and final season is now available to stream in its entirety on Amazon Prime and is a fitting end to one of the best shows around at the moment. Seasons on Amazon Prime Video: 3 Thrillershttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/101672bb586c1b172f1576c4ccd27d40.jpg The Americans The Americans was cruelly mishandled when it originally came to UK TV, so we are glad it has finally found a decent place to reside. The show is a cracking crime period thriller that follows the exploits of a couple of KGB agents posing as US citizens around the time Ronald Reagan became US president. It may occasionally flit between the ridiculous and the sublime but you would expect nothing more from a show that's main conceit comprises characters duelling with duality. The '80s setting is fantastic, too, though there aren't enough shell suits for our liking. The final sixth season of The Americans is now free with Amazon Prime Video. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 6 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/37980d8af975e2900bcbb93e44469286.jpg Mr Robot The popularity of Mr. Robot meant that there was something of a bidding war to see who would show it. Amazon, Netflix and other more traditional broadcasters fought for it, proving that even bean counters can see the worth in counter culture. Amazon won in the end and is the perfect place for a show that focuses on the exploits of hacker Elliot (a superb Rami Malek). Mr Robot is Fight Club for the Tor generation, lifting a lid on a world where what Linux kernel you use is not just a badge of honour but a way of life. Now in its third season, Mr Robot is proving to be one of the most addictive things on television right now. Seasons on Amazon Prime Video: 3 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3265d04e9f420a59c8bf0eb2fac28c28.jpg Man In The High Castle There have been a number of successful Amazon pilots that have made it to a full series but none have the epic potential that Man In The High Castle has. This Philip K Dick adaptation is finally available to stream - with all episodes ready for your consumption. High Castle imagines what the world would be like if Germany had won World War II and the Nazis had taken global control. Turns out it's a bit worse than us all driving around in VW Beetles and wearing Hugo Boss coats. Season 2 is now available and expands on the mythos. Given this is a cautionary tale about what could happen when the hard right takes over America, things suddenly don't feel too far fetched. Seasons on Amazon Prime Video: 3 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/SUniZvK2XoTFuxzCk2jZgP.jpeg True Blood One of the biggest advantages Amazon Prime Instant Video has over Netflix is its massive back-library of HBO programming that will make anyone with a monthly subscription salivate over. While each show could have its own entry on this list we instead chose to highlight the best of the bunch, starting with The Wire. A close, though vastly different second is True Blood, a show about the preternatural, social issues and sex. Lots and lots of sex. And if that tag line doesn't sell you, nothing will. Seasons on Amazon Prime Instant Video: 6 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/f755ac41de15e0921b0030c5e89caa4e.jpg Vikings If you have any interest in Norse mythology then the name Ragnar Lothbrok will mean a whole lot to you. Basically he was a king and powerful ruler that was a right git to the English and the French. Vikings is a series that traces his Norse-based goings on with enough charm and scope to take on Game of Thrones in the sword and sandals stakes. Yes it takes a number of liberties with its source material but the acting is top class, as is the cinematography in a historical romp that's now deservedly in its fourth season - the second half of which is now available. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 5 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3SCmVoGK8MvgJ53LQ8EuaS.jpg You Are Wanted The first season of this German cybercrime thriller has been on Amazon Prime for just over a year, but now the second season is available too. Set in Berlin, the TV show is about a man called Lukas who has all of his online accounts hacked and gets accused of being involved in criminal, terrorist activity. In the age where it feels like big companies know more about our data than we do, it's a compelling contemporary tale that might leave you feeling like you really go and tweak your privacy settings or delete your online presence altogether. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 2 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/g4kFHQatnMaDBM8WiJAwqS.jpg Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan While the hype overblew the final product, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is still worth a watch. Starring John Krasinski (a.k.a. Jim from The Office) as the titular character who is "just a mere analyst". (Pro tip: He's not just an analyst.) Ryan's adventures are thrilling and entertaining, pure Tom Clancy incarnate. If action is your scene, check out the first season of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, now on Amazon Prime. Seasons on Amazon Prime: 1 Sports, the best of the rest, and coming soonhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/uwQVsAYoZxGMv4Myp5Y5T5.jpg Tomorrow's World Tomorrow's World was a ground-breaking BBC documentary series that ran for 38 years from 1965 to 2003. In 2017 the brand was 'revived' as part of a new series that explores the same themes of technology, science and the future as an umbrella brand for BBC's science programming. The latest season has recently landed on Amazon Prime and it covers artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, biometrics, the quest for immortality and how researchers, big corporations, doctors, scientists and inventors are shaping the future. This documentary is a superb look at how gruelling a season of American football is. It gives the viewer unprecedented access to the coaches, the staff and, most importantly, the players and it's a fantastic watch. Tying the whole thing together is also some superb narration from Mad Men's Jon Hamm. Not keen on the American version of the sport? You can watch whole seasons of Manchester City play in the Premier League or watch the infamous New Zealand All Blacks tear it up on the rugby pitch. Whatever your sport, All or Nothing has you covered. Narrated by Michael Douglas, this documentary follows rookie driver Stoffel Vandoorne over four episodes, as he and his team prepare for the 2017 Formula 1 World Championship. Season on Amazon Prime Video: 1 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/PXg7bDUUMoHH5MeLEx9XtU.jpeg Grimm Merge a fairy tale fantasy with a police drama and you get Grimm. It's all about Nick Burkhardt, a detective based in Portland in the US who discovers he's a Grimm. Which basically means he's a kind of mystical guardian who must keep the peace between humans and creatures called Wesen. As you might expect, a lot of the characters are inspired by Grimms' Fairy Tales, but the show draws from many other sources too to create a story that's a little like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, but with fairy tale creatures. Seasons on Amazon Prime Video: 6 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5ck6BVpXD8TCdbXTy5xBY5.jpg Coming soon to Amazon Prime: Oasis The works of Michel Faber nearly always translate well to the big and small screen. The Crimson Petal and the White was given a great mini series adaptation by the Beeb in 2001. And Under The Skin is one of the most inventive films ever made. Another one of his works, The Book of Strange Things, has been given the Amazon Originals Pilot treatment. Called Oasis, the show is a twisty opaque look at a priest who is living in a human colony on another planet. Richard Madden, last seen in Game of Thrones, stars. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/hXpa7BvsB4X6Njqu5fgV67.jpg Coming eventually to Amazon Prime: The Lord of the Rings The biggest project Amazon has in the books is its insanely expensive interpretation of The Lord of the Rings. The latest incarnation of Tolkien's classic fantasy tale will reach Game of Thrones heights... and budgets... with some $250 million set aside for production. Amazon has apparently already signed a five-season contract with the crew and production should start in the near future. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is coming out soon on August 7, but we may be getting an early look thanks to some alleged leaked renders. The renders, posted by leaker @ishangarwal24 on Twitter, show front, back and side views of the Note 10 in two colors: a silver-purple-blue gradient and a solid black. The S-Pen is present and accounted for... looking a bit rounded compared to earlier square-column styluses in the Note line. If authentic, these renders support earlier hints that the Note 10 would have a single selfie camera in a punch hole at the top-center of the phone, as well as three rear cameras aligned vertically. The renders appear to be high-quality enough to be official images, and though they could always be well-produced fakes, it’s close enough to the phone’s launch that we wouldn’t be surprised if they were the real deal. Note 10...and Note 10 PlusThat's not all – the same leaker followed up with another set of images for the long-rumored bigger, beefier version of the phone, which he calls the Galaxy Note 10 Plus (previously purported to be the Note 10 Pro). This is the first side-by-side comparisons we've seen between the smaller and larger Note 10 models ... and it does indeed seem like the Note 10 Plus is simply a wider, larger version. In fact, they look identical. The big tip-off: the S-Pen stylus doesn't come up as high on the Note 10 Pro, and there seems to be a fourth sensor on the back -- perhaps a Time of Flight depth sensor, as appears on the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G. We'll see whether future leaks affirm the authenticity of these renders in the coming weeks, but either way, Samsung will give us the official word at its Unpacked event in August. How will the Note 10 stack up? Compare it to the best Android phones out therehttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/KSj2uXMAUOA

Cricket's oldest rivals are set to do battle once more at Egbaston, with a place in the 2019 Cricket World Cup final the spoils for the victor. Clear your Thursday and use TechRadar as a bible to discover how to watch it - these are your Australia vs England live stream options - it's free Down Under but English fans will need to pay. Having overcome a dangerous blip halfway through the round-robin phase, England managed two excellent wins against India and New Zealand as they scrambled their way into the last four. Australia let their top spot status slip away to India after a shock defeat in their final group match against South Africa. England's recent ODI record against Australia had been near perfect, having won nine of the last ten encounters ahead of the World Cup, but their group phase match saw the Aussies ease their way to a 64-run win at Lord's. England's confidence will have grown since that defeat however, with their opening order massively boosted with the return of Jason Roy from his hamstring injury. Having entered the tournament somewhat under the radar with little hype, an early defeat to India saw Australia written off by plenty of pundits. As the tournament has progressed they've looked arguably the most assured side in the competition. Steve Smith and David Warner have both had a huge impact on their return to the Australia's batting order. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc's 26 and counting wicket haul at the 2019 Cricket World Cup along with Nathan Lyon's impact as a world class spinner has provided skipper Aaron Finch with real options for mixing up the bowling. Amazon Game Studios is teaming up with Athlon Games to co-develop to co-develop and publish a free-to-play Lord of the Rings MMO for PC and console. We first heard news of the upcoming MMO last year, however Amazon Game Studios' involvement is new, as is the revelation that the studio brings with it a team that includes veteran developers who've worked on popular MMOs such as World of Warcraft and Destiny. Best upcoming games 2019: most anticipated titles for PS4, Xbox One and SwitchAmazon Prime Day 2019: the best deals that have already launchedBest games 2019: our favorite PC and console games of the yearAccording to Amazon Game Studios, the MMO will take place in the Middle-earth portrayed in The Lord of the Rings literary trilogy. Previously the game was set to be a prequel to the well-known stories of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins, instead taking place in the deep history of Middle-earth, and conveniently avoiding any canonical issues. “Tolkien’s Middle-earth is one of the richest fictional worlds in history, and it gives our team of experienced MMO developers – from the same studio developing New World – tremendous opportunity to play and create," said Amazon Games Studios VP, Christoph Hartmann. "We have a strong leadership team in place to helm this new project, and we’re actively growing our team to help build this incredible experience.” The game is unrelated to the Lord of the Rings TV series Amazon Studios is developing and currently has no firm release date. When it comes to Cyberpunk 2077, the development team is putting consoles first, according to CD Projekt Red's UI director Alvin Liu. In an interview with Wccftech, Liu was asked about the challenges of optimizing Cyberpunk 2077 for low-end hardware. "Actually no, we have a very custom engine, the RED Engine," Liu responded. "And actually, we’re targeting consoles as first class platforms and it looks amazing there. So obviously, if you spent, you know, $2,000 building your PC rig, it’s going to look better on that. But the graphics are quite amazing for what you’re going to get from Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles and low-end PCs." In an interview with VG247 last year, CD Projekt Red revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 will be able to work with future gaming technology. “Next gen hasn’t been announced yet, so we can only speculate,” CD Projekt Red president Adam Kiciński explained. “Technology-wise, Cyberpunk is very advanced. Our technology is ready to interface with future generations. “The game is developed in such a way that it can use very powerful future equipment." Liu's comments further suggest that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a cross-generation title, releasing on both current and next-generation consoles. Waiting for Cyberpunk 2077? If you're looking to play the best SNES games, the SNES Classic Edition is the best place to start. Not only will you find the best games from the '90s on there, but you'll find they're exactly as you remember them - they're perfect emulations of the original games. (We're looking in your direction, PlayStation Classic...) But with so many iconic games on Nintendo's classic console it can be hard knowing where to start first. If you've gone ahead and added the entire library of classics by modding the console - not something we advocate for but something that does happen - the choice becomes even harder. Practically each and every title included on the system can rightly be regarded as a solid-gold classic, and ranking them has involved some serious hair splitting. But, in the end, we think we've been able to decide on the best SNES games - or at least, the best SNES games available on the SNES Classic - and have ranked them here from worst to best. Kirby's games struggled to find a truly receptive audience outside of Japan until very recently, and the odd combination of cute platforming and golf that's on display here makes Kirby's Dream Course a bizarre inclusion on the SNES Classic; the gameplay is fun but there are plenty of better games that could have be featured instead of this – Super Tennis is the one we're most aggrieved about not seeing. Not a terrible game by any means, but Nintendo could have done better. The comical sequel to the original Punch-Out!! might lack Mike Tyson's beaming mug – he was included in the initial NES version before being replaced by "Mr. Dream" – but it's a better game overall thanks to deeper gameplay and large, appealing pugilists. The big issue is that it's too easy to memorise the tactics required to defeat each opponent, and this severely curtails the game's long-term appeal. Capcom's side-scrolling action platformer is still as tough as old boots, with pixel-perfect precision required to overcome its grim fantasy levels. As an early release on the system it dazzled players with colourful and detailed graphics, but the crippling slowdown which occurs at busy moments is hard to stomach, especially in 2017. Still a classic, but one which has perhaps aged less gracefully than others. Street Fighter II owes much of its enduring success to the million-selling ports which graced the SNES, with Turbo being the second to hit store shelves. With 12 playable characters (including the four bosses this time around) and a mirror-mode which lets both players select the same fighter and a much-needed speed boost, it remains irresistibly playable, especially if you can convince a fellow carbon-based lifeform to play. That said, we've put the game slightly lower down our list simply because superior versions of the game exist. Something of a superstar on the 8-bit NES, Mega Man – or Rockman as he's known in Japan – appeared in several eye-catching 16-bit adventures. Mega Man X was the first and, some would argue, the best. It arguably struck the perfect balance between technical wizardry and compelling platforming action. Nintendo's first Mode 7 racer may lack the embellishments of its more technically advanced sequels F-Zero X and F-Zero GX, but it's arguably the most accessible and instantly enjoyable entry in the series. The colourful presentation, tight controls and challenging courses make for a purebred speedfest which hasn't aged one bit; only the lack of a two-player mode holds it back. Released for the first time ever on the SNES Classic, Star Fox 2 is perhaps the game many owners of the new system will boot up first. It's a fascinating illustration of how to evolve a gameplay concept, and jettisons the linear structure of the first game in favour of a more open, randomised set-up, with each gameplay session differing greatly from the last. The only negative is that things can sometimes feel a little loose and lacking in coherence. Rare's pioneering use of pre-rendered characters caused jaws to drop all over the world when Donkey Kong Country made its debut in 1994, and while the game owes a massive debt to Super Mario, it's polished and entertaining enough to stand on its own as one of the best 16-bit platformers ever made. David Wise's groundbreaking soundtrack is the cherry on the top; how he made a non-CD system produce tunes of this quality is beyond human comprehension. Known as Kirby's Fun Pak in Europe, this is a surprisingly robust collection of seven games, some of which have more depth than you might imagine. There are plenty of homages to other classic Nintendo games to be found, and because this was released quite late in the life of the SNES, it boasts some truly impressive, cartoon-like visuals. It's hard to believe that this was one of Konami's earliest SNES outings; with its incredible visuals, stirring soundtrack and impressive Mode 7 bonus levels, Contra III is rightly regarded as one of the finest run-and-gun blasters available. The two-player mode means you can bring a friend along for the ride, too. Back in 1993, this was utterly groundbreaking stuff. The first SNES game to feature the assistance of the Super FX chip, Star Fox delivered cutting-edge 3D visuals in your living room. Ironically, the simplistic, unshaded polygon graphics lend the game a timeless quality, while the thrilling gameplay and superb music keep you glued to your controller. Never released in the UK, this Squaresoft-developed RPG epic came late in the lifespan of the SNES and adopted the then-commonplace "CGI" look for its visuals – a fact which has perhaps caused it to age faster than other 16-bit examples of the genre. However, the game combines the best elements of Final Fantasy's turn-based combat system with action-based commands that make battles feel more exciting and skill-focused. The gothic platformer starts off slow but soon develops into one of the best entries in Konami's long-running vampire-hunting series. Notable for its excellent use of Mode 7 sprite scaling and rotation, it's also famous for its beautiful soundtrack – another demonstration of just how adept the Sony-made sound chip inside the SNES really is. Known as Final Fantasy III in the US only – it's actually Final Fantasy VI in the true chronology of the series – this is regarded by many as one of the finest JRPGs ever made, and with good reason. As well as possessing the usual gripping and addictive gameplay the franchise is famous for, this stellar outing also includes some of the most memorable characters to ever feature in a role-playing adventure, and packs a dramatic storyline to boot. The second title in the Mother series of RPGs, EarthBound isn't like any other role-playing adventure you've seen. Set in modern times, it replaces dragons and orcs with bizarre aliens and its heroes are ordinary school kids who find themselves wrapped up in a fierce conflict which puts the fate of the world in the balance. Boasting an iconic soundtrack, humorous script and moving storyline, EarthBound is a true classic – despite not having seen release in the UK during the SNES' lifespan. While it lacks the massive, non-linear structure of Super Mario World, this sequel harnesses the power of the Super FX chip to create some of the most eye-catching visual trickery ever achieved on the SNES. Instead of controlling Mario you're in charge of Yoshi, who can float in mid-air and hurl eggs at enemies. With a fresh gameplay idea on almost every each level, this is Shigeru Miyamoto at his most inventive and playful. Arguably one of the most influential video games of all time, Super Metroid is the title responsible for laying down the "Metroidvania" blueprint so skillfully adopted by modern titles, such as the superb Axiom Verge. Konami's 1997 adventure Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is also credited with popularising this style of game, but it's Nintendo's SNES epic which should get the lion's share of the credit. Exploring a massive alien world packed with hidden passageways, new weapons and bloodthirsty enemies has rarely been this entertaining; this year's Metroid: Samus Returns on 3DS continues this fine tradition. The game that started it all. Now a quarter of a century old, Super Mario Kart has to rank as one of the most influential titles in gaming; it created a whole new racing sub-genre and established a series which – at the time of writing – has sold over 100 million copies worldwide. And you know what? The 1992 original is still playable as its sequels, especially when there are two people involved. Don't forget that battle mode, too. Recently confirmed for the reboot treatment by Square Enix, Secret of Mana – or Seiken Densetsu 2, as it's known in Japan – is comfortably one of the most iconic JRPGs in existence. It got pretty much everything right back in 1993; engaging real-time combat, sumptuous visuals, gorgeous music and – perhaps most important of all – a gripping storyline populated with memorable characters. The best platformer ever made? We personally don't feel there's any room for debate here; Super Mario World is nothing short of a masterpiece; a finely-tuned 2D epic spanning a massive, non-linear game world which is literally bursting with new ideas. Finishing every single stage takes days if not weeks of effort, and the controls are tight and joyfully precise. And to think this was one of the first games released on the SNES – remarkable. Here it is – the big one. While subsequent Zelda adventures have expanded the scope of the series, A Link to the Past remains the best instalment for many fans. It's the benchmark many RPGs attempted to emulate in the decades that have passed since its launch; Nintendo's game managed to combine real-time combat, challenging boss battles, head-scratching puzzles and a seemingly never-ending overworld – all done on a humble 16-bit console. A true classic. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/nTRE6qca5Lw

The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) has published deployment guidelines for mobile operators, as well as enterprises and vendors, ahead of the launch of Wi-Fi 6 later this year. Wi-Fi 6 is the first generation of wireless broadband to adopt a more consumer-friendly nomenclature, similar to 4G or 5G, rather than the more technical system that has seen previous standards given technical monikers like ‘802.11ac.’ Among other things, Wi-Fi 6 is expected to deliver faster speeds and greater capacity, with the wireless industry positioning it as a complementary technology to 5G that can help organisations and communications providers cope with the growing amount of data traffic. 5G: Everything you need to knowWi-Fi 6 certification program sets minimum standardEarly 5G networks are more than two times faster than 4GWi-Fi 6This, the WBA argues, will help meet customer demand and satisfy any Service Level Agreements (SLAs). However, Wi-Fi 6 is also an attempt to ensure that wireless broadband isn’t sidelined in favour of 5G. The WBA says the number of Wi-Fi enabled devices now stands at 9 billion – more than one for every person on the planet – while enterprise data traffic is set to rise from 33 exabytes at present to 63 exabytes by 2022. The new guidelines published by the organisation – and developed with members including BT, Broadcom and Cisco – aim to provide a consistent framework for Wi-Fi 6 deployments in high density areas like stadiums, apartment blocks and public venues. There are also provisions for Internet of Things (IoT) and enterprise networks. Areas covered include RF planning and design, MU-MIMO, band steering and backwards compatibility with previous generations of Wi-Fi. “Since its inception 20 years ago, Wi-Fi has become a fundamental expectation for consumers and enterprises alike,” said Tiago Rodrigues, General Manager, WBA. “Not only is global demand for Wi-Fi continuing unabated, but operators worldwide are ramping up 5G networks, and governmental authorities around the world are preparing to open 6GHz spectrum to Wi-Fi traffic. “Today’s announcement illustrates the dedication of the WBA and its member companies to providing timely, expert direction to ensure that Wi-Fi deployments successfully accommodate all of these global factors.” Many operators around the world are now focussing on the construction of converged networks comprising fixed, mobile and wireless connectivity. The idea is that the end user is seamlessly connected regardless of technology. Wi-Fi 6 should be a major boost to such efforts. Google is one of the biggest cloud storage providers in the world. With more than 2.5 billion active Android devices, the advertising and search giant has to allocate potentially up to 20 Exabytes (assuming a ratio of two devices per user account); that almost 20 billion GB of data as each Gmail account is tied to a 15GB free cloud storage tier. That’s a lot of hard disk drives and a lot of servers (probably more than a million) spread over the world. The real number is likely to be far less than that because, well, not all people use that much storage and the emergence of Facebook means that billions store their pictures elsewhere. Check out the best cloud storage services out there. These are the best cloud backup providers on the market Meet Google One When it comes to consumer cloud storage, Google has three main data pools for end-users: Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos; they all share the same free storage quota as part of Google One, Google’s new membership scheme which gives you access to experts, expanded storage and more. Paid for options are available should you want to put more data online. 100GB storage will cost you $15.99 per year with the most expensive tier, 30TB coming in at a whopping $2,880 a year. In addition, photos and videos stored using the "High Quality" size (photos - up to 16-megapixel, videos - up to full HD) do not take any space at all from your storage quota. Now unless you have a super fast Gigabit broadband, your upload speeds are likely to be slow. Uploading at 2Mbps means that you will upload up to 22GB a day; that’s in theory. Assuming you have a dedicated internet line, it will take you nearly four years to fill your 30TB storage. The obvious backup strategy to maximize storage efficiency that you should be able to use. The “other” Google Cloud Storage Outside of its consumer market, Google also operate one of the largest public clouds in the world (alongside Amazon, Microsoft, IBM and Oracle). Google Cloud Storage (similar to AWS S3) is one of its core components and offers unified object storage to developers and enterprises. As part of Google Cloud Platform, it offers to businesses, three storage tiers (standard, nearline and coldline), with pricing depending on the frequency of access (more than once a month, less than once amonth, less than once a year). That sort of storage is not easily available to end users but is cheaper especially if you don’t need a lot of data. 20GB storage will cost you a mere $4.80 per year, going down to $1.20 per year for coldline storage for and you get $300 credit for free for the first 12 months when you try Google Cloud Platform. You can potentially store several TB of data for free for a year but all this will have to be moved out within 30 days of your trial period ending. You do get charged extra though for accessing and moving data and for performing actions within the cloud storage environment. It is worth noting that G Suite, Google’s bundle of business applications, gives you unlimited cloud storage for $12 per month across six users, so that’s a maximum of $864 over a year. That is significantly less than the near $3K charged for 30TB. If you have a lot of data to backup (tape, USB flash drive or hard disk drives) in Google’s cloud then you can even get a third party to do it for you. Currently Google has vetted only Iron Mountain and Zadara Storage to do it. You will have to pay them to move the data physically from your peripherals to Google’s data centres. It will be expensive especially if you are not based in the US but at least you won’t need to wait for years. As always, make sure you have double or triple backup before sending or shipping something as sensitive as terabytes or even petabytes worth of data. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/Sf2vxJJ1798

Freeview Play, the UK TV platform that combines live TV with a full suite of catch-up television now boasts 20,000 hours of free on demand content for its viewers. And that's before you include all the live TV it serves up daily, too. It's the addition of Channel 5's My5 player that's pushed the tally up to the 20,000 hours mark, joining the likes of BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, UKTV Play, CBS Catchup Channels UK and Horror Bites on the service. To put that figure into context, it's running close to the 22,600 hours of paid-for programming from Amazon Prime Video, and approaching double what Sky's pay-as-you-view Now TV serves up. Freeview Play: everything you need to know about the UK's catch-up serviceBoxes of box setsThe news comes at a time when there's a growing trend towards so-called cord-cutting – ditching paid-for TV contract services in favour of the free services that can be picked up online, or the monthly subscriptions that providers like Netflix offer. But even those monthly subscriptions are getting increasingly costly – while premium UK TV service Sky announced pricing raises of close to 5% earlier this year, Netflix has hiked its prices up 20%, making the likes of Freeview Play all the more valuable to cash-strapped viewers. The battle for TV viewers' cash is only going to get more intense as the year rolls on too, with the launches of two new paid for services, bursting at the seams with their own exclusive content: Disney Plus and Apple TV Plus. It's a war that's causing Netflix to even reconsider the kinds of original programming it spends its money on. Either way, it's win-win for Freeview Play viewers, with the UK now having 7 million Freeview Play devices out in the wild. It's enough to make you reconsider that Amazon Prime Day boxset deal binge. iOS 13 è disponibile in beta ormai da qualche settimana, e i più coraggiosi possono scaricarlo e provarlo sul proprio dispositivo iOS. Quanto all’app Messaggi, è ora possibile condividere il proprio nome e immagine in modo selettivo a chiunque, solo i contatti salvati o nessuno.

Samsung released its most recent flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S4, last August, and now it appears the South Korean technology giant is getting ready to release its follow-up, according to an exclusive leak from SamMobile. Having already released the mid-range Galaxy Tab S5e earlier in the year, it seems the manufacturer is going to skip the premium Tab S5 entirely, opting instead to name its next flagship slate the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, if SamMobile's very convincing leaked images (including one of the device's boot screen) are anything to go by. It'll also reportedly boast 6GB of RAM and run on Android 9 Pie.
