  1. It's turning into a big year of Nintendo hardware. Two years after the Nintendo Switch first released, we now know we're getting a handheld-only Switch Lite console, a renewed Switch model with double the battery life – and now even some new Joy-Con controller colors, for more aesthetic improvements. Nintendo of America announced the new Joy-Cons on Twitter, with Blue/Neon Yellow and Neon Purple/Neon Orange options. They'll cost $79.99 (about £65, AU$115), the same as previous Joy-Con colors, and will be available from October 4, 2019. You can already get Joy-Cons in yellow, but the blue coloring is one we haven't seen before – and commentators on Twitter were quick to point out comparisons to paint-bucket shooter Splatoon's bright color scheme. Sure, you're not getting any technical improvements here, and it's a bit depressing not to see any price reduction on hardware that's a couple of years old now. There are also a lot of reports coming in about controller 'drift', with the Joy-Cons tracking the camera angle slowly off in a random direction despite the thumbstick not being used. But if you're looking for some jazzy new colors to give your current Switch – or battery-enhanced model – a makeover, it's nice to have some options. (Don't forget, though, you can sidestep all these small Joy-Cons with a premium Nintendo Switch Pro controller.) 2. Feeling refreshed? Then let the Tour de France commence with a stage 11 sprint south west from Albi to the gastronomic city of Toulouse. To see the sights and the cycling from just about anywhere on Earth, be sure to follow our Tour de France live stream guide for Stage 11. The riders certainly earned their rest after a few solid days of mountainous climbing, but they need to get straight back on the saddle today for some flat sprinting. As the field enters the Pink City, there should be plenty in contention for an exciting sprint finish. Reigning champion Geraint Thomas has really started making a move in recent stages in what's looking like a spirited defence of his title. He and Colombian Egan Bernal - also of Team Ineos - are now loitering well within range of the top spots, while French native Julian Alaphilippe retains the yellow jersey...for now. 3. Turbo VPN is the mobile VPN service with the biggest growth in the second quarter of 2019 (compared to the previous year). In research created by mobile analytics company App Annie exclusively for TechRadar, the free VPN privacy app had the largest absolute year-over-year growth in worldwide downloads in Q2 2019 despite being released only in April 2018. These are the best VPN for NetflixCheckout the best VPN for ChinaHave you tried out the best VPN for Mac?GrowthThis is a measure that takes into account growth relative to overall movement of all apps in the referenced categories across iOS and Android. Turbo VPN is developed by a Singaporean company, Innovative Connecting, which claims to have more than five million users in 137 countries. Despite its website having only one page with a single Gmail address and no support provided (the privacy policy is hosted elsewhere), the app has more than 50 million downloads with almost three million reviews averaging 4.6/5. Our review found out that “it is great as a free service to quickly unblock a site, but doesn't have the features, performance or power for more demanding users”. Importantly though, it can unblock Netflix and has unlimited bandwidth. TurboVPN makes money from adverts and from the in-app products that it sells with the annual plan selling for $35.99. 4. A UK-led consortium is to trial 5G-powered ‘infotainment’ services in Scotland and South Korea as part of the latest government-funded pilot of next-generation network applications. ‘5G RailNext’, which includes Cisco, Soluis, Ampletime, the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow City Council will see how tourists and commuters can be provided with travel information, streaming and gaming services using Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) applications. Once testing has been complete, the group will expand to the Glasgow Subway and are hoping to work with the London Underground and the New York Subway in the future. Why startups can make UK a '5G leader'What is 5G? Everything you need to know5G: How will businesses benefit?5G RailFirstThe British and Korean governments will each provide £1.2 million in funding, with the UK money coming from the £200m 5G Testbed and Trials Programme. Cisco has already been a beneficiary of the fund, working with the BBC and others as part of a 5G rural connectivity project in Orkney, Shropshire and Somerset. The partnership with South Korea is designed to drive Korean investment in the UK and provide opportunities for British firms in the Asian country. “5G is the future of connectivity and we want the UK to be a world leader,” said Digital Minister Margot James. “This collaboration with South Korea will explore innovative ways to use the technology to deliver content and services on transport networks in Seoul and Glasgow. “I'm delighted that this will create new partnership and business opportunities for UK SMEs, academia and local government." EE and Vodafone have already launched 5G services in the UK, with Three set to go live in August and O2 before the end of 2019. It is hoped that the British startup ecosystem and research network will allow the UK to have significant influence on the development of 5G networks and applications across the world. 5. Fujifilm has been steadily adding to its XF and GF lens portfolios in recent months, and leaked images suggest that each optics stable will shortly welcome a new member. Camera-leaking website Nokishita has released a number of images of two new lenses, the Fujinon XF16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR and GF50mm f/3.5 R LM WR. The 10 best mirrorless cameras right nowWhat we want to see in the Fujifilm X-Pro3Read our full Fujifilm X100F reviewBoth lenses have already been included in Fujifilm's lens road maps for the two lines, although little other information has been released up until now. The XF16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR is a zoom lens designed for X-series bodies such as the X-T30 and X-T3. Its name makes a number of things clear, such as a constant f/4 aperture, weather resistance and the presence of optical image stabilization, while the R in the name denotes an aperture ring – something that can be seen in the leaked images below. The images also show a filter thread of 72mm and Super EBC coating, with the latter promising 99.8% optical transmittance and just 0.2% reflection across the visible spectrum. This same coating has already been used across a number of X-series lenses, such as the XF18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS and XF18mm f/2 R. Nokishita goes on to claim that the lens has been constructed from 16 elements across 12 groups, and that it has a minimum focusing distance of 35cm and a magnification of 0.25x. Other specs include a weight of 440g and dimensions of 78.3 x 88.9mm. The second lens is the GF50mm f/3.5 R LM WR, which has been crafted for users of the company's GFX medium format cameras. Right now, that comprises three models: the GFX 50S, GFX 50R and GFX100. Want 100MP images? The Fujifilm GFX 100 isn't your only optionOffering a focal length of around 40mm in 35mm terms, the lens offers weather resistance and an aperture ring, together with a linear focusing motor on the inside. The only other specs that are obvious right now is a filter thread of 62mm. There's no official word on any of this from Fujifilm just yet, but Nokishita claims the XF16-80mm F4 R OIS WR will be on sale for $799.99 (around £645 / AU$1,140) while the GF50mm f/3.5 will be priced at around ¥134,460 (approx. $1,242 / £1,000 / AU$1,770). 6. Vodafone has extended its 5G network in the UK just two weeks after its July 3 launch, rolling out the service to eight more towns and cities. The lucky locations are Birkenhead, Bolton, Gatwick, Lancaster, Newbury, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent and Wolverhampton, and takes Vodafone's 5G coverage up to 15 places around the country. The network has already committed to bringing its 5G network to 19 locations by the end of the year, but it's set to exceed this number as Bolton and Lancaster weren't included the the initial list of 19. "Bolton and Lancaster are two such examples. They were not on the original list of 19. Customers will start to see 5G in these places and we will increase coverage over time." Currently Vodafone offers just two handsets capable of using its 5G network, with the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G the pricier of the two, coming in above the slightly more affordable Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G. More 5G roaming optionsAlong with the announcement of extending is UK 5G network, Vodafone has also confirmed you'll now be able to roam on 5G in more European locations. You can now access 5G roaming speeds in 55 European towns and cities, bringing the worldwide roaming total to 77. Meanwhile, in the UK, EE has its 5G service in just six cities, and we're still waiting for Three and O2 to launch their 5G networks. 5G in the UK: everything you need to knowhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/WYnYnqrhU5M
  7. Linux Mint 19.2 has been released as a beta, and it comes in three different flavors, each with a different desktop environment as a default. Codenamed ‘Tina’, the new OS will be supported until 2023, and can be downloaded with the Cinnamon, Mate, or Xfce desktop environments depending on your preference. Changes for Mint 19.2 include an improved Update Manager, with a better interface, and touches such as now warning the user when their Mint installation is 90 days from end-of-life. Boot benefitsAnd if you hit boot configuration problems – maybe you’re running Mint alongside Windows in a dual-boot setup – a new Boot Repair feature is able to fix the most frequent problems encountered, which could be pretty nifty. There are various other minor changes, as you would expect, including a load of new wallpapers. Another interesting thing to note is that the Cinnamon version of the OS uses significantly less system memory than before – something in the order of two-thirds of the RAM with the move from Cinnamon 4.0 to 4.2, the developers note. If you want to see the full list of what’s different with Mint 19.2, you can check the release notes here. As ever, remember this is still in beta, so there will likely be some teething issues. You can grab Linux Mint 19.2 from the following links each of which point to the version which carries the mentioned desktop: Cinnamon, Mate, or Xfce. Some of the biggest discounts we've seen have been on Amazon's own devices, like the best-selling Echo Dot. The smart speaker is down to just $22 for Prime Day. 9. The growing success of podcasts has led major players in the tech industry to finally start considering them as a serious source of revenue, with big brands increasingly offering funding and support to existing producers and original creators. A new report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple intends to fund its own original podcasts and stream them exclusively on its own platform, according to “people familiar with the matter”, in order to compete with the existing market. The report claims that podcasting companies have been approached by Apple executives offering to buy exclusive rights to their series’, although the Cupertino firm’s plan isn’t fully laid out in these communications. Spotify spends over $200 million securing podcasting futureGoogle's new podcast app pours personal recommendations directly into your earsEarlier in 2019, music-streaming giant Spotify spent over $200 million to acquire two successful podcasting companies – including Gimlet Media – in the hope to become “both the premier producer of podcasts and the leading platform for podcast creators”. Recently, Apple discontinued its long-running iTunes music platform in favor of splitting it up into Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Podcasts, signalling a more focused approach to each category. iTunes is dead, long live Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple PodcastsDespite being predominantly responsible for the initial popularity of the category in 2005, when the company officially added the ability to subscribe to podcasts in the iTunes app, Apple hasn’t altered its strategy around the free audio format in any significant way over the past 14 years. Now, more than a quarter of Americans listen to podcasts at least once a month, and even if they currently use Apple's Podcasts app, none of that audience pays anything to the company – or even encounters any advertising from the tech giant. While there’s currently no official word from Apple on its exact plan for exclusive podcasts – or even if there is one – it seems like a sensible move for a company that has, perhaps unwittingly, found itself with a large amount of influence over the format. 10. With Qualcomm having revealed its new gaming-centric Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset overnight, which is officially set to debut with the release of Asus ROG Phone 2 next week, Samsung fans may have been hoping that the updated processor might find its way into the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Plus. Unfortunately, that probably won't happen, as according to 9to5Google (via Dutch site WinFuture), the US version of Samsung's upcoming productivity-focused flagship will stick with the standard Snapdragon 855 system-on-a-chip (SoC) – the part that's currently powering the company's Galaxy S10 range. Whoops: Samsung Galaxy Note 10 gets revealed in full thanks to FCC slip-upSamsung Galaxy Note 10 render gives early look at the phone and stylusSamsung Galaxy Note 10 cases suggest there won’t be a headphone portWhile that may be disappointing to hear for North American Note fans, as with other Galaxy handsets the international version of the Note 10 will reportedly use Samsung's own Exynos SoC – and specifically a brand new Exynos 9825 model. The as-yet-unannounced SoC is expected to be an upgrade from the 8-nanometer (nm) Exynos 9820 chipset, which is featured in the international Galaxy S10, and there's a chance it will be built with Samsung's 7nm process, which would allow the Exynos 9825 to offer more energy efficiency, and would put the Korean-made SoC more in line with the US models' Snapdragon 855 SoC in terms of power. Of course, we won't know this for sure until Samsung officially reveals its highly-anticipated Note 10 range at the handset's launch, which has been confirmed for August 7 in New York. 11. After the launch of DJI’s Ronin-S gimbal at CES 2018, it became a must-have accessory for the serious videographer. But, if you’ve ever used one you’ll know that it’s heavy, making it uncomfortable to use through a full day’s worth of filming. However, DJI seems to have heard users’ concerns and has ‘accepted the challenge’ of making a professional gimbal that’s lightweight and “smarter” to use. A sneak-peek video posted to DJI’s official Twitter account says we’ll be seeing the new gimbal sooner than we thought, with the launch taking place at the Challenge Accepted event on July 17. Read more: DJI Osmo Pocket reviewThe featherweight contenderWe don’t know much about the upcoming gimbal, except that FCC filings from July 15 carry the name Ronin-SC/Ronin-S Command. Paperwork for a focus wheel, a new Ronin-SC camera grip, an updated focus motor and a wall adapter were also filed. The teaser video doesn’t give too much away either. All we can tell is that the upcoming gimbal will be of a similar design to the original Ronin-S, but in a more lightweight and compact setup that makes for better ergonomics. With competition strong from the likes of Zhiyun’s Weebill Lab, DJI needed to refresh the Ronin range to match usability. So here’s hoping we get to see a superbly refreshed stabilizer. The launch is expected to take place at 9am EST on July 17 (1pm GMT / 11pm AEST) and we’ll bring you the news as soon as it happens. 13. Cheap Xbox One controller prices aren't too easy to find. That's because retailers rarely lower the price of Xbox controller deals, leaving shoppers to pay full price most of the time. You'll find this is the case no matter where you shop - the Xbox One controller price stays steady, unless Microsoft decides it's discounting the controllers, usually for a very limited time around the big sales events. So fingers crossed for Amazon Prime Day. You can, however, find competitive prices online, and that's where we come in. We're here to help you find the best prices on Xbox One controllers. Here’s the thing: console deals are awesome, and often come loaded with huge savings, but unless you buy a bundle that specifically packs in a second controller, your Xbox One will only arrive alongside one. Why is that the case? The main reason is that it’s cheaper that way, yet it still makes it seem like the manufacturer is cutting you some kind of deal. But just because you’re getting shorted a controller doesn’t mean you should go without a second one - how else would you ever play a local multiplayer game without one? For that reason a second controller is a crucial pick-up. So let's see what Xbox One deals are out there. 16. The UK was targeted by a large number of significant cyber-threats last year, according to new government figures. A wide-ranging phishing campaign that used spoof emails from a major UK airport to try and steal customer details was revealed as one of the biggest threats blocked by GCHQ's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) last year. The specific airport targeted has not been named, but the criminals used fake gov.uk emails to try and target victims, sending out 200,000 emails claiming that recipients would receive a payout upon paying a small deposit. Major cyberattack could hit the UK soon, warns NCSCBest disaster recovery services of 2019Netflix users hit by phishing scamScamsThe news was revealed in the NCSC's Active Cyber Defence report - the second such time it has released such findings. Overall, the NCSC disclosed said it had stopped 140,000 separate phishing attacks in 2018, as well as taking down 190,000 fraudulent sites - nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of which were offline within 24 hours of being detected. Many fraudulent email campaigns took the form of HMRC communications, spoofing official messages from the organisation to offer tax returns if victims provide details of their bank account. The NCSC also noted a number of other major campaigns it helped shut down, including a primary school being involved in the spread of a large-scale malware infection because its anti-virus system was not working, and an unnamed public sector organisation that deals with sensitive information getting breached because its employees had downloaded unauthorised software. “Organisations are specifically at risk (of attack), with their valuable data ensuring there is a target firmly placed on their back at all times," said David Mount, Director, Europe at Cofense. "Yet, while software and firewalls have been put in place, technology is not enough to keep out the phishing threats." “As important as technology is in the fight against those with malicious intent, it should be allied with employee awareness and education to keep businesses secure. By deploying their most adaptable and intelligent resource – employees – businesses can build a risk-aware culture and stand strong in the fight against threat actors." "By combining real time intelligence from security-aware humans, with leading-edge technology, organisations can identify both vulnerabilities and active attacks in progress more quickly with fewer resources, leading to a more successful outcome.” Via BBCThe best antivirus software 2019http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/ymYBmzixr0k
  17. Three is starting to migrate customers to a brand-new cloud-based core network ahead of the launch of its 5G service in August. The core network has been tested with more than 3,500 staff since February and is now ready to handle commercial traffic. 4G customers will also be moved onto the new core, meaning all users will benefit. The infrastructure, delivered by Nokia, is a key component of Three’s £2 billion 5G investment programme, which also includes new equipment, spectrum and an IT transformation. Three CEO: Capacity not speed is benefit of 5GThree bigs up 5G FWAWhat is 5G? Everything you need to knowThree 5G core5G networks will deliver improved speeds, greater capacity, and ultra-low latency that will enable a raft of new consumer and business applications. Three’s new core network will make it easier and quicker to rollout new services, while also improving the cost-effectiveness of its infrastructure. To improve latency even further, Three has moved away from using just three data centres in London and the Midlands to 21 dotted around the country. This means that data processing in the core is performed closer to the point of collection. All data centres have also been connected to fibre to reduce the time it takes to send data between mast and core. All of Three’s mobile sites have been connected to the core since December. Three says the combination of the core network and its significant spectrum holdings will allow it to deliver enhanced capacity for customers and the UK’s fastest 5G speeds. “UK consumers have an insatiable appetite for data as well as an expectation of high reliability. We are well positioned to deliver both as we prepare for the launch of the UK’s fastest 5G network,” said Three CEO Dave Dyson. Three sees 5G as its opportunity to transform from the UK’s smallest mobile operator into the market leader thanks to its significant spectrum holdings boosted by auction victories and the acquisition of UK Broadband (which operates the Relish Fixed Wireless Access broadband service). In addition to a 5G FWA, Three will launch 5G mobile services in 25 towns and cities before the end of the year. 19. Sony has finally lifted the lid on what it's been teasing over the past few days, confirming that a new Sony A7R Mark IV will join its full-frame camera stable. The A7R IV is the latest arrival in the company's hugely popular A7 line of mirrorless cameras, and follows the A7R III released in 2017. And with a new back-illuminated 61MP sensor at its heart, resolution is once again very much the focus here. This pixel count is a significant step up from the 42.4MP A7R Mark III, and ahead of the 47.3MP Panasonic S1R, which has, up until now, offered the highest sensor resolution on a full-frame mirrorless camera. The sensor can also be used on an APS-C crop mode, outputting images at 26MP, while it promises 15 stops of dynamic range. Mirrorless vs DSLR: what you need to knowRead our in-depth Sony A7 III reviewHere's everything we know so far about the Sony A7S IIIAs we would expect, the A7R Mark IV arrives with five-axis image stabilization built in, and this can work in partnership with the equivalent system inside E-mount lenses. 567 phase-detect AF points, meanwhile, cover 76% of the frame, and the system supports Real Time tracking for humans and animals, both in stills and videos. A number of other popular Sony features make the cut, such as the AF joystick around the back of the camera and the popular EyeAF feature, which identifies a subject's eyes – here even when shooting videos, a first for Sony. Other key features include 4K video recording, which is captured from oversampled 6K footage, with S-Log2/3 and support for HLG video. The camera also shoots at up to 10fps at full resolution, with autofocus and autoexposure working throughout. That's the same as the A7R III, although it's impressive considering the added pixel count. The camera's EVF packs 5.76 million dots – significantly higher than the 3.69 million dots of the A7R III – while the LCD below this responds to touch, and can be tilted up and down to facilitate high- and low-level shooting. Sony also promises upgraded dust and moisture resistance for the body, together with an enhanced Multi Interface hotshoe and updated wireless connectivity options. The camera also mirrors the A7R III in offering twin card slots around its side, both for SD-type media and both supporting UHS-II cards. As with recent A7 models, the camera arrives with a Z-series battery, although it's also launched along with a new VG-C4EM battery grip that will be compatible with the camera. The camera will be available in September priced at $3,500 in the US, while the grip will cost $400. In Australia, the A7R IV will arrive on shelves at the end of August with a price tag of AU$5,699. Australian pricing for the grip, however, hasn't yet been revealed. We also have no word yet on UK pricing and availability, but we'll update this article as soon as we know more. 20. Facebook is set to face further scrutiny on its ambitions to launch a cryptocurrency after "very serious concerns" were raised by senior US government members. The company is set to be questioned by the US Senate Banking Committee over its Libra cryptocurrency as the government looks to clarify its stance on the technology. Head of Messenger and Vice President of Messaging Products at Facebook David Marcus will take to the stand to face questioning from government officials on the company's plans. Facebook is set to launch both Libra and its Calibra digital wallet next year, but has been tight-lipped on what form both offerings will actually take. It has said it won't launch Libra until all of the regulatory issues are addressed. What is blockchain? Everything you need to knowCoinbase launches cryptocurrency debit cardOpera builds cryptocurrency wallet into browserLibra hearingTreasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told a press conference today said the Treasury Department has "very serious concerns" that Libra could be used by money launderers, terrorist financiers and other criminals. This follows the department seeing other leading cryptocurrencies abused to fund a wide range of illegal activities around the world, and fears that this may grow if Facebook launches a new offering on its global platform. Despite this, Mnuchin added that the US "welcomes responsible innovation, including new technologies that may improve the efficiency of the financial system and expand access to financial services." "With respect to Facebook's Libra and other developments in cryptocurrencies, our overriding goal is to maintain the integrity of our financial system and protect it from abuse," Mnuchin said. 21. The UK’s is the world’s biggest target for phone scams, with 15 per cent of the world’s fraudulent telecoms traffic directed at British numbers, new research has found. BICS, a subsidiary of Belgian telco Proximus, says its FraudGuard platform analyses traffic from more than 900 communications providers around the world and found the UK was the only G20 country in the top ten, with 25 million scam calls during 2018. It added that the number of global call attempts increased by two per cent last year, with telecoms fraud causing losses in excess of $30 billion worldwide. Ofcom considers phone number futureOfcom looks at Blockchain for phone numbersYou can call 0800 numbers for free on mobileTelecom scams“The results … illustrate what a persistent – and damaging – threat telecoms fraud is to the industry, whilst continuing to prop up serious organised crime,” said Katia Gonzalez, Head of Fraud Prevention. “Eradicating telecoms fraud is an ongoing battle, and one which will only be successfully waged with industry-wide collaboration. Sharing information and knowledge will allow the sector to take a proactive approach to minimising fraud, protecting subscribers in the UK, and globally.” One of the reasons cited for the UK’s popularity as a target is the regulation of phone numbers. BICS says the ease at which anyone can purchase an ‘07’ number – reserved for mobile phones – combined with the higher mobile termination rates makes it difficult for operators to differentiate regular numbers and scam ones. This exposes end user to the possibility of connecting to a premium rate phone number inadvertently. “The UK is a long-suffering target of telecoms fraud, both in terms of its phone numbers being used to collect fraudulent traffic and its subscribers being targeted,” added Gonazalez. 24. Update: In the US, you can get a total of $30 off the premium AirPods with a wireless charging case. We'll tell you how in our updated news story. UK prices are also below. Confession: I bought the Apple AirPods 2019 on Amazon Prime Day, even though I technically don't need them. After all, I have the original AirPods from late 2017. There are several reasons I made the purchase today after much pondering. Sure, it has new features like touchless 'Hey Siri' and wireless charging. But the perks that swayed me to upgrade are all minor in comparison. Here are the three reasons I bought new AirPods and how much I paid for them during Prime Day 2019. 1. AirPods on sale today for Amazon Prime DayI've been waiting for Amazon Prime Day 2019 to roll around to buy a lot of things. I mean I've been rationing supplies like trash bags, laundry detergent, and even heavy duty sponges – all on sale and finally bought today. I need new sunglasses, but I didn't get them until today either. I've saved $50 on supplies in the end. This same purposely procrastination applied to 'AirPods 2' with wireless charging. I didn't need them right away, so paying $30 less for the version with wireless charging 16 weeks after they first launched made a lot of sense to me. Here's how much they cost on sale for in the US and UK. Note in the US: I saved an extra $9.01 by choosing No-Rush Shipping option. Amazon may be doing this for two reasons: AirPods are going to be very popular today and everyone from Amazon employees and UPS drivers are going to overloaded shipping everything else sold over the course of the next two days. It gives them a reprieve from getting a popular item out to you. To Amazon, that must be worth $9.01. The upgraded AirPods 2019, without wireless charging, are also on sale today, too. They contain the touchless 'Hey Siri' feature and slightly longer battery life. 2. I'm selling my old AirPods while they have valueIf I'm going to sell my AirPods, it has to be in 2019 to be worth anything of value. In time, the battery life will fail and audio volume will diminish. It's good enough for someone else to enjoy for another year or two (probably a family member since I wouldn't want to overcharge a stranger for something that has finite life). I'm a big believer in getting rid of old tech to fund the purchase of new gadgets. It's how to funded the purchase of the iPhone XS Max, Apple Watch 3 and MacBook Pro. Advice: Get rid of things while they still have value attached to them. 3. Refreshed battery life is the key reasonMy current AirPods from 2017 still last roughly four hours between charges, which is still impressive, in my opinion. It's longer than other people I've talked to who have told me about battery life issues. Having a refreshed battery life that goes a full five hours between charges will give me exactly what I need on longer cross-country flights. Someone in my family will find four hours, and eventually three hours, just fine for their purposes. Other smaller reasons I bought AirPodsI've been using wireless charging more ever since the iPhone 8 launched with the feature. It's nice to just drop it on a Qi charging mat and forget about it without having to plug a Lighting cables into the AirPods case.I don't expect the official 'AirPods 2' to launch next year – at best. So now is the right time to get the AirPods 2nd gen. During their first big sale, but not right up against the release date of the AirPods 2.I imagine finding the 'Hey Siri' feature useful in New York City. The mic on AirPods picks up speech better than other true wireless headphones I've tested. And I'm always carrying things in my hands. Asking to Siri to play a specific song hands-free while walking the NYC streets is going to be a bit, how Apple says, magical.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/f5EFOnOLctI
  25. Walmart is trying very hard to rival Amazon in the eCommerce space. The retail giant has fallen a long way behind when it comes to acquiring an online customer base and it's now making a big play to turn that trend around. It's a bit of an odd situation, it has to be said. Instead of coming up with a good name to rival Amazon's Prime Day sales, Walmart has instead decided to call its promotion "The Big Save". Yawn. But while the name isn't very original, there are actually plenty of pretty great deals available today.
