  2. Having emerged in the 1990s, PDFs are not only one of the most prevalent file types, but they’re also one of the oldest. These venerable documents remain immensely popular because they combine text formatting and images into a single file type that can work universally across different operating systems, hardware and applications. Whether it’s a bank statement, invoice or letter, many of the documents you receive through email are likely sent as PDF files. They’re also common in the workplace, with the PDF specification enabling encryption, digital signatures, and more… Although virtually all email services, web browsers, applications and operating systems will let you view PDF documents, they’re not specifically designed to handle these files. For instance, if you preview and try to print out a PDF document, the paper copy may look slightly misconfigured. That’s where PDF readers come into the mix. These applications often contain built-in, specialized features that allow you to do much more than merely view PDF files – you can also use these apps to edit, convert and manage PDFs without any issues or fuss. In this article, we’ve picked out five of the best readers for Windows devices. We’ve also highlighted the best free PDF readersWant your company or services to be added to this buyer’s guide? Acrobat DC provides you with the tools to download, convert and edit PDF files across computers, tablets and smartphones. With the software, you can use your smartphone camera to capture and turn any document into a high-quality PDF. There’s also a new file comparison tool, which quickly and accurately analyzes two PDF files to find any differences. That could be handy if you’re looking to compare different drafts of the same piece of work. What’s more, when you create a PDF document using Acrobat, you’re sent a smart file that you can edit, sign, share and search. You can even use the built-in preview feature to see what the document will look like on different screen sizes and resolutions. And if you’re writing a letter or have been sent an important form, you can add your signature by using the Acrobat app on a touchscreen-enabled device. If you’re interested in purchasing Acrobat, there are two offerings to pick from. Acrobat Standard DC costs $12.99 a month, letting you create, edit and sign PDF documents. However, it only works on Windows devices. Meanwhile, Acrobat Pro DC gives you access to all the listed features for $14.99 a month – plus it’s also compatible with Mac devices. You can download Adobe Acrobat DC herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3yuAre98we7g3rsXonr3yc.jpg Image Credit: Foxit Foxit has developed a sophisticated PDF management app, with PhantomPDF being pushed as a tool that goes well beyond PDF viewing, providing a range of cloud-based tools that allow you to create and customize documents at scale. Described by the company as a ‘transformative’ PDF application, the software lets you create and modify PDFs while providing a plethora of sophisticated management, security and collaboration features. For instance, you can manage who has access to documents, track who opens them, notify readers of document updates and send document requests to your colleagues. This software also sports a whole suite of useful editing tools. You can change the layout of a document, rearrange paragraphs, columns and pages, or make your documents look more professional by including stamps, watermarks, headers, footers and so forth. You can also merge PDFs and split PDFs into new files. In terms of price, the Standard edition will cost you $9 monthly or a one-time payment of $145. Should you be mulling a purchase, the good news is that there’s a free trial so you can test out the software first. You can download Foxit PhantomPDF herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/2EdDymf9n36xsWNfufY4Ck.jpg Image Credit: Nuance Nuance is another notable firm that develops PDF management software for individuals and enterprises. Power PDF is an easy-to-use piece of software that lets you create, edit, annotate and share documents quickly. It’s used by large organizations including the likes of Airbus, PwC, Carillion and the Welsh government. There are several versions of the software, all of which offer different features. For $129, the Standard edition lets you create, convert, combine and edit documents, fill in forms and share PDF files. It also lets you turn documents like invoices and receipts into PDFs through a scanning and OCR feature. Meanwhile, the Power PDF Advanced package is priced at $179 and targeted at business users. While offering all the same features of the Standard edition, it comes with collaboration, security and redaction abilities. You can access documents anywhere and at any time through the cloud, too. Enterprises can get a quote for volume licensing of the software as well. By going down this route, firms get one deployment package with a single license. PDF Anywhere is the firm’s enterprise offering, giving companies access to a full suite of cloud-based PDF tools. With the software, you’re able to review, annotate, send and track documents from a single comprehensive user interface. You can also connect Soda PDF Anywhere to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Evernote and Box accounts, which makes it easier to download and distribute documents. Another great thing about the application is that it comes with a batch processing feature, allowing you to create and convert multiple PDF files at the same time. There’s an e-sign function as well, which you can use to prepare and send PDF-based contracts to clients or partners. What’s more, you can track and get reminders on all the documents you distribute through the app. Plus, if you use a range of devices within your company, the software works not just for Windows, but also Mac, Linux, iOS and Android devices. As for pricing, there are several plans available. The basic home package starts from $48 a year, though you can get a free PDF reader and individual functions (like e-sign) separately, though. You can download Soda PDF Anywhere herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/pobnBncUaVS8Bo7RBVyjhL.jpg Image Credit: SoftXpansion SoftXpansion has developed Perfect PDF Ultimate, which is described by the firm as an ‘all-in-one’ application for processing PDF files. Available to buy direct from the Microsoft Store, this user-friendly software is perfect for viewing, editing and creating PDF documents. Features include the ability to edit page content, generate interactive forms, comment on existing documents, as well as being able to convert, combine and split files. You can also add e-signatures and encryption to important business files. You can buy Perfect PDF Ultimate for $29.99. You can download Perfect PDF Ultimate hereOther PDF readers and editors to considerPDF Exchange is a free PDF editor that's rich with features. Aside from being able to view, create, and edit PDFs, there are additional options to OCR and digital sign documents. PDF-XChange Editor Plus is an upgraded version which allows for the creation and editing of PDF forms. While PDF Exchange Editor is freeware, you can pay $37 to get a version with support. PDF EXchange Editor Plus is available for $47. Nitro PDF Reader is another free PDF reader that allows users to read, edit, and annotate PDF files. Nitro PDF offers a couple of key differences to a lot of other free PDF software, though. The first is that it allows for the creation and editing of PDF forms. The other is that it has a sleek and simple interace that uses tabbed menus, making it look like it took inspiration from Microsoft Word in presentation. Sharing and signing are also available. STDU Viewer - aka, Scientific and Technical Document Utility Viewer - is a freeware viewer that works with multiple file formats. It aims to be an all-in-one viewer for most common file formats used in scientific documentation, such as PDF, TIFF, DjVu, XPS, JBIG2, WWF, FB2, TXT, TCR, PalmDoc(PDB), MOBI, AZW, EPub, DCX, as well as offers a range of supported image file types. It comes with a tabbed interface, multilingual support, and can also work with multi-layered text documents and convert them to single layer document file. Adobe Reader DC is probably the most famous read-only viewer for PDF files, not least because it's free and has often been integrated with web browsers. The positives, apart from being free, include the stated aim of making PDFs viewable regardless of the operating system used. The negative, of course, is that you can't edit and annotate files in the free viewer and you will need one of the options above to do that. 3. We have to be honest with you, Baselworld 2019 has been a bit of a washout when it comes to smartwatches and other high-tech wearables. In recent years this previously traditional watch and jewelry show has seen brands embrace technology, unveiling hybrid watches and even full-blown smartwatches alongside traditional timepieces. 2019 has been a lot more of the latter than the former, but there are still some smartwatch announcements you'll want to know about from Baselworld 2019. Below we talk through seven developments from Baselworld that you should care about, including new watches, new designs and updates from the world of smartwatches. 1. Fossil and Skagen have new hybrid designs Fossil unveiled new smartwatches at Baselworld 2018, but the company now seems to be focusing on IFA and CES for its core announcements in the Wear OS space. That didn't mean the company skipped Baselworld 2019 entirely though, as it unveiled new traditional watches alongside four new hybrids. We say they're new, but these are really new watch designs (under the Fossil and Skagen brands) that feature Fossil's usual hybrid tech. That means all four of these watches come with step tracking, sleep monitoring, limited notification support and more. The two new Fossil-branded watches are called the Cameron and the Jacqueline, and they offer new designs that are small, slim and unique-looking. Two new looks for the Skagen Holst (a watch designed by Fossil) can be seen above too. One features a metal chain link band in black, while the other has a Milanese loop band with a mother of pearl watch face. You should be able to buy these from later in the year, but so far we don't have exact release date or pricing information for either. Everything we know about Fossil's latest hybrid watches2. BMW and Puma smartwatches aren't here... yetFossil Group has a variety of brands under its banner including Skagen, Michael Kors and Emporio Armani. Two of the newest brands to join the wearable group are Puma and BMW, and previously Fossil Group has confirmed that it's working on ideas for smartwatches for each brand. Baselworld didn't see Fossil unveil its first attempts at smartwatches for either brand, but BMW has now debuted its first range of traditional watches, so it may be that the company is gearing up for a Wear OS makeover. We may not hear anything about this for quite some time though, as Fossil was unable to give TechRadar any firm dates or information when we asked about smartwatch plans. 3. Tag Heuer revamped its Wear OS watch so it's par for the courseThe new Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 Golf Edition is a reworking of the company's high-end Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 smartwatch, and its designed specifically for you to wear on the green. As well as Tag Heuer's normal mapping technology, it comes with a golf app to give you details on over 39,000 golf courses around the world. There are some slight design changes here too, but if you already own the Connected Modular 45 you probably won't want this. The new golf app from Tag Heuer is available for its existing Connected Modular 45 models as well as the Apple Watch, so unless you're looking specifically for the look above you probably won't want to spend $1,850 / £1,600 / AU$2,650 on one. Everything we know about Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 Golf Edition4. New Alpina AlpinerX designs are here Alpina seems proud of its AlpinerX adventure watch, and rather than properly updating it for 2019 the company has instead brought out new designs and introduced an added feature. The four new variants of the Alpina AlpinerX come with a heart rate tracker, as well as the new looks you can see above. Those new looks were the most popular combinations people made on Kickstarter last year, and each will be available for $995 (around £750, AU$1,400) later this year. You can see the full collection in the gallery above, but all the same adventure features such as a UV monitor are still here on the latest versions of the watch. Everything we know about the new AlpinerX designs5. Skagen Falster 2 will soon get bolder straps http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Eh62xqYwEDGz9SBtHfCMcb.jpg Image credit: TechRadar The Skagen Falster 2 Wear OS watch has been on sale for a while now, but the company wants to inject its look with some bold colors for anyone who likes that style. Later this year, you'll be able to buy the Falster 2 with four new straps that come in yellow, red, green or blue. Exactly when you'll be able to buy these is unclear, but they'll certainly give your watch a different design to the more traditional straps Skagen normally uses. 6. Michael Kors Access Sofie Heart Rate is coming in Aprilhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/58PXnJfivF8wRjtq9D3gtF.jpg Image credit: TechRadar You may have heard about the Michael Kors Access Sofie 2.0 which was announced at CES earlier in the year. It isn’t on sale yet, but the watch is now confirmed for an April 2019 launch in a variety of markets around the world. As well as it coming soon, we’ve now been told it will have a slightly different name. Instead of the name Access Sofie 2.0, you’ll be buying the Michael Kors Access Sofie Heart Rate. That's a long, complicated name but at least it's clear what the main addition is. 7. Casio has a very limited edition Wear OS watchhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/AW3iw9M93N9eQVC2gxgtA9.jpg Image credit: Casio And finally, Casio has just unveiled a new version of the WSD-F30 Wear OS watch. It has all of the same tech as last year's smartwatch, but it sports a new unique design. Casio only plans to make a thousand of these so they may be difficult to get your hands on, especially as the company has no plans to sell them in the US. Casio confirmed to TechRadar that the new model will be sold in Europe and Japan. The design features rose gold buttons, a deep blue color bezel and a slightly smaller body than the original watch. It's probably not one for you if you've already bought a WSD-F30, but if can spare 100,000 Japanese yen (around $900, £700 or AU$1275) then you may want to snap up this new look. If that's you, you can expect to be able to buy one in June this year. Everything we know about Casio's special edition WSD-F30http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/o3zT7dboB0g
  4. There’s a ton of free stuff out there on the internet, not just in terms of knowledge – and indeed misinformation – but there are literally millions of free services available. The latter includes software (more specifically freeware), smartphone apps, and websites – from the pedestrian plagiarism checker, to the more obscure, such as decoding World War II’s Enigma machine cipher. With so much gratis content available online, it is easy to fall into the mind-set that everything should be free – but there are good reasons why that shouldn’t be the case. And this is certainly true of free VPN services, which are the subject of this article. While free VPNs can be easily found online, they tend to be a lousy choice, and not worth the effort to download and use. Why? Let’s look at the main pitfalls and restrictions involved with free VPN providers. How does a VPN work?Facebook has shut down its Onavo VPN appUse this checklist to find a VPN you can trustLimited dataA major limitation of a free VPN is the generally paltry level of data allowance. While just about every paid VPN service provides unlimited data, this is not the case with a free VPN service. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/mzUBgEV7BG2VUkNqjZe2R8.jpg You don’t get much monthly data allowance at all with TunnelBear’s free plan (Image Credit: TunnelBear) For example, TunnelBear is a popular VPN service that is notable for its ease of use. While TunnelBear offers a free tier, it is more of a recurring free trial than a usable free VPN, being limited to a very low 500MB of data for each month. Of course, every household’s broadband usage varies, but if we look at figures from cable provider Xfinity, the average subscriber (in the second half of 2018) consumed 174GB of median monthly data. With that average usage, which works out to approximately 5.8GB of daily data consumption over 30 days, TunnelBear’s monthly data allowance would not even cover a single day. Therefore, this free tier is effectively provided as just a test to let the user decide if they want to commit to a full monthly plan. However, with such a limited data allowance, perhaps folks should not even bother, and simply find a VPN that offers a (more substantial) free trial before committing to a paid plan. The slow laneA crucial feature of a VPN is how much bandwidth it can offer the user. This applies to both the download and the upload side of the transmitted data, and becomes particularly important for users who plan to use their VPN to stream video. And remember, the latter is the most common VPN activity for both the US and globally, and VPNs are frequently used to avoid georestrictions imposed on streaming services. Also recall that according to Netflix, for an HD quality stream, the user should have 5MB/s of download bandwidth, and for a 4K stream, this goes up to 25MB/s. The speed you experience with a VPN is determined by the quality of its network, how many servers it has, and how close they are to you. The better paid VPN services tend to have a larger number of servers – often thousands of them – spread across the globe to make for a robust network, providing adequate bandwidth for all of their users. And remember that the more servers there are, the more likely there will be a good one near to you. A free VPN simply does not have the sort of cash required to invest in such a network, and at least the more transparent free VPNs are upfront about this. Also, it is generally good business sense to give priority in terms of throughput to the paid subscribers. After all, they are paying the VPNs rent, and keeping the lights on, so it makes sense to prioritize their service over the non-paying folks, to keep them happy. This can translate into a restricted, more sluggish level of bandwidth, for the free VPN users. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Ezzk7pegybLDazSavfSxSD.jpg ProtonVPN’s different subscription plans and free offering (Image Credit: ProtonVPN) By way of example, take a look at ProtonVPN’s plans and prices in the image above. While the plans vary, for any of the paid tiers, there are servers in all countries, and the speed is designated as ‘high’ – but for the free plan, this isn’t the case. Indeed, for free users, there are servers in only three countries, and the speed is rated as ‘low’. Let’s just say don’t try your Netflix streaming with such a bandwidth limited service unless you like waiting for your buffer to fill more than watching your film or TV show. Device limitAnother differentiator with a VPN is the number of devices that can be connected. Better VPN plans often start at three devices, and can go up to as many as 10 devices. After all, there really is no point applying the protection of a VPN to your laptop, while leaving your smartphone and desktop PC unprotected and exposed. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/9i8yKci4sBjjeNhj8tHqwL.jpg Comparing Hotspot Shield’s paid and free services (Image Credit: Hotspot Shield) We can look at yet another free VPN provider as an example: Hotspot Shield. Its premium plan allows the user to connect up to five devices. Once again – as with ProtonVPN above – the free plan leaves out the essential feature of allowing for the connection of multiple pieces of hardware, and free users can only use the VPN with a single device. Malware – no extra chargeThere have been plenty of reports about free VPNs not being secure. In fact, we doubt anyone would be shocked to know that these free VPNs utilize the user’s browsing data to perform targeted advertising for a revenue stream, and even sell this data to third-party affiliates for more additional revenue. This effectively makes the user the product. What’s perhaps an even greater concern is that some of the dodgier free VPN offerings out there can be associated with malware. So you should certainly tread carefully, particularly when it comes to more obscure providers who seem to be offering you a free VPN lunch. When you add all this up, in our opinion, the bottom line simply is: a free VPN is just not worth it! 5. If you’ve already own one of the best gaming PCs, it can be easy to just pick up the cheapest mouse you find at your local big box store. But, we really don’t think this is wise. Instead, you should pick up the best gaming mouse you can find – everything attached to your rig should be of comparable quality, right? While you’re at it, you may want to pick up one of the best gaming mouse pads, too. You should keep your eyes open for a mouse that manages to balance price and performance, while packing some unique features. Don’t fall for that age old trap that the best mouse is the most expensive one on the shelf. Just look at the SteelSeries Rival 600, our number one pick: at the price of a new AAA game, it has all the high-end features and supreme performance you could ask for. So, we gathered together the best gaming mice reviewed and tested by us. No matter what kind of games you're into, you'll find the best gaming mouse for your needs right here on this list. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ignGnXqX9GL5366v9MZ3KM.jpg SteelSeries Rival 600 Easily the best affordable gaming mouse you can buy, the SteelSeries Sensei 310 takes things to a new level. The low cost of admission keeps it on the same level that you’d expect to pay for a new game, while its out of this world TrueMove 3 sensor makes it one of the most performant and sensitive gaming mice on the market today. You can even pick up the SteelSeries Rival 310 if you want comparable performance, but focused more on right-handed users. Otherwise, the Sensei 310’s ambidextrous shape and low price makes it the perfect gaming mouse for anyone to grab. Read the full review: SteelSeries Rival 600 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/vmHJyCcAU2d7HSHtpG3iUJ.jpg SteelSeries Sensei 310 The SteelSeries Sensei 310 is a gaming mouse like no other, both in terms of price and performance. The low cost of admission keeps it on the same level that you’d expect to pay for a new game, while its out-of-this-world TrueMove 3 optical sensor makes it almost impossible to compete with. This mouse, with no preference when it comes to dexterity, is unparalleled when it comes to real-world sensitivity. You can even pick up the SteelSeries Rival 310 if you want similar performance, but a more right-handed approach to dexterity. Read the full review: SteelSeries Sensei 310 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/dQm8Zb4mfmCu9L9aiLJoHR.jpg Corsair Dark Core RGB SE In our minds, the best gaming mice are always going to be the ones that deliver excellent performance at a price that doesn’t break the bank. And, the Corsair Harpoon RGB Wireless is the poster child for price-to-performance ratios. At less than 50 bucks, you’re getting a wireless mouse that doesn’t suck, has RGB lighting and long battery life. The ergonomics are specifically for right-handed users, but at this price, with this level of performance, there’s little to complain about. Read the full review: Corsair Harpoon RGB Wireless http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/86cVrGDYKYEr3Ci4SY5pi7.jpg In the world of the best gaming mice, you generally have two main options: you can get a mouse that performs well, but looks like something that would fit in the office, or you can pick a mouse that performs well and looks like something out of a Sci-Fi film. The Logitech G502 fits firmly into that latter category – it looks like a gaming mouse. But, don’t let that dissuade you. With adjustable weights and a jaw-dropping 16,000 DPI sensor, this gaming mouse backs up its otherworldly looks. It’s not perfect for users with big hands, but beyond that, it’s easily one of the best gaming mice out there today. Read the full review: Logitech G502 Hero http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5kdid4vWrBDqmywVGfPyJ.jpg Logitech G903 Undeterred by years of ridicule for their comparatively higher latency, the Logitech G900 of yesteryear proved once and for all that wireless gaming mice don’t have to suck. Though it’s merely a slight upgrade to that model, the Logitech G903 only reassures us of that conviction. Gracing a slightly altered G900 design with Logitech’s on PowerPlay mouse pad that doubles as a wireless charger, the Logitech G903 is a pricey, yet rewarding investment. It won’t win any beauty contests, but packing quality Omron switches and a reasonably sensitive sensor capable of up to 12,000 DPI, it’s easy to look past the unappealing design – especially if you use a claw grip. Read the full review: Cooler Master MasterMouse MM520 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/PCfGUsZV4G5zqQbqyaGuA5.jpg Razer Naga Trinity If you’re gearing up to represent either the Alliance or the Horde in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, you’re going to want to take a look at the Razer Naga Trinity. Razer’s Naga mice have always been aimed at MMO gamers, but the company wasn’t content to just appeal to that one niche. With the Naga Trinity, you’ll get 3 easily swappable side plates so that you can change your mouse to fit the game you’re playing. Aadd in the insane 16,000 DPI 5G Sensor and Razer Chroma RGB lighting, and you’ll top the DPS meters, and your gaming setup will look nice while you do it. Featuring extremely reliable Omron switches and gorgeous RGB lighting – not to mention its unbelievable 16,000 DPI sensor – you’re getting one of the best gaming mice for a great price. Plus, it’ll fit into any office, at least once you turn down the lighting effects. They’re either too small, too light or a bit of both. And, then some of the big mice out there are packed with gratuitous buttons and weird shapes that make them look like some kind of Transformers extra. The Corsair Ironclaw fixes all of that, it’s an attractive mouse for big-hand users that you won’t have to hide whenever you have company. It’s robust, too, so you don’t need to worry about breaking it if you’re a bit too rough with it. The Creative Sound BlasterX M04 is actually one of the best gaming mice you can buy in 2018 – the 12,000 DPI rating means it’s quick and responsive. The RGB lighting scheme is great, too, controlled by Creative’s own Sound Blaster Connect software. The Creative Sound BlasterX Siege M04 is a winner in form and function. Read the full review: Creative Sound BlasterX Siege M04 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/eaV3kfiKqe8HZw8guGnRxS.jpg How to choose the best gaming mouseEven though you’ll definitely find the best gaming mouse here, doing so will take some effort. There’s a ton of complicated technical jargon that goes into the best gaming mice – terms like polling rates and DPI ratings. You’ll want a higher number of both, but these two terms mean drastically different things. For newcomers to the world of PC gaming, that DPI is shorthand for ‘dots per inch.’ The higher the number, the wider the range wherein you can specify your how sensitive your mouse is. If you don’t have a lot of desk space available and you want accuracy and precision, then opt for a gaming mouse featuring a higher DPI rating. Of course, you can always toggle a lower DPI too. Meanwhile, a high polling rate gives you faster response times. The polling rate is measured in hertz, so it usually ranges from around 125 to 1,000Hz. The latter means that your mouse’s position is reported to your computer 1,000 times per second. Other key gaming mouse factors you’ll want to consider are ergonomics – particularly if you’re left-handed – and RGB lighting. 6. If you’ve been on the market for one of the best processors, you’ll be pleased to know that the processor world is more vibrant than ever with competition between Intel and AMD. This is thanks to AMD dominating the market with its Ryzen 2nd Generation processors, something we hope continues with Ryzen 3rd Generation. Intel has responded with its 9th-generation Coffee Lake Refresh processors, led by the Intel Core i9-9900K. There’s never been a better time to grab one of the best processors. There are so many different kinds of processor out there. From HEDT chips like Intel’s Basin Falls Refresh lineup, to budget champions like the AMD Ryzen 3 2200G – there’s something for everyone. And, of course, there are dozens of chips in the middle, like our current number one pick, the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X. You can’t throw a stone without hitting one of the best processors right now, so finding the right one isn’t as easy as you may think. Fortunately, even if the latest and greatest silicon is out of your reach, there are still plenty of great Kaby Lake and Ryzen Gen 1 chips out there. So, get ready to experience amazing PC performance, as we’ll cover all the best processors we’ve reviewed over the last year or so. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3vJpavkNefM7AMRGc948o7.jpg Image Credit: AMD For the longest time, AMD has fell behind Intel. Luckily, those days are over with the Ryzen 2700X. This time around AMD brings the first 12nm processors and the performance to back it up, demolishing Intel when it comes to price-to-performance. If you’re looking for one of the best processors that’ll give you great performance without costing an arm and a leg, you can’t do much better than the Ryzen 7 2700X. Packing eight cores and 16 threads, it has more cores than any mainstream processor that Intel has ever released. And, the performance shows that it’s worth it – it can go head to head with some of AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper chips. If you’re looking for raw performance, the Intel Core i9-9900K is easily one of the best processors you can go for. With 6 cores and 12 threads and a base clock of 3.6GHz, you’re getting way better performance than the pricier Intel Core i5-8600K – with a gorgeous RGB CPU cooler included. Sure, the gaming performance over the blue team is marginal at best, but when you start multi-tasking – and who doesn’t always have 100 chrome tabs open – the value starts to show itself. While it doesn’t feature the hyperthreading capability of its predecessor, the Ryzen 3 1200, the introduction of integrated graphics makes this APU one of the cheapest ways to experience casual PC gaming. We were even able to play Overwatch at 4K Ultra-HD resolution at ‘Epic’ settings. It might not have as many cores as its AMD Ryzen counterparts, but that doesn’t matter, gaming is mostly about that single-threaded performance. With this processor, you’ll be able to run all the latest games without having to worry about bottlenecking your GPU – just don’t be surprised when rendering and encoding video takes longer. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qk32TCKQBeDMrSnNPUjkaj.jpg Image Credit: AMD Initially the primary competition for the Intel Core i7-7700K, the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X still stands up today, even though it’s been succeeded by the Ryzen 7 2800X. Its high core count, when compared to the intel Core i7 7700K means that it's much better suited to VR workloads, and now that it’s dropped significantly in price, it’s more affordable than ever before. If you’re building a VR rig, do yourself a favor: save some cash without giving up on too much performance with the Ryzen 7 1800X. Read the full review: AMD Ryzen 7 1800X http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3gi8dK3s8ysXbeyBaaZKfj.jpg Image Credit: Intel The naming convention is confusing, given that the Intel Core i7-7820X is part of Intel’s “Skylake-X” series rather than the X-class chips built on the 14nm Kaby Lake node, but semantics matter very little when you get to go hands-on with an Intel CPU boasting this many cores. Although the fact that you’ll need a new motherboard to use this octa-core monster might be enough to scare some users off to Ryzen, Intel loyalists shan’t mind the upgrade. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ay5Zjb4tPfsTH8KCmXdcqd.jpg Image Credit: Intel If you’re the kind of user that demands world-class performance, and you couldn’t care less about cost, the Intel Core i9-9980XE is the best processor for you. With 18-cores and 36-threads, it absolutely destroys everything else on the market right now, if only just barely. Multi-threaded applications and workstation-class projects are going to breeze by with this chip. However, if you need to ask how much it costs more than once, it might not be for you. As the first Pentium processor in a long time to feature hyper-threading, the G4560 shows us what low-end CPUs have been missing for so long. And, in benchmarks it proves that it’s easily adjacent to the more expensive Intel Core i3-7100. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/XYimGWyiNrA7s3K7HRmhzB.jpg Image Credit: AMD One of the only things that we were left wanting when AMD’s Ryzen processors blew up is that they didn’t support integrated graphics. However, the Ryzen 5 2400G changes everything for mainstream PC users. With impressive AMD Vega graphics, it’s a fantastic APU that will be perfect for anyone looking to build a home theater PC. And, now that AMD has slashed the price you can get your 4K action on cheaper than ever. Read the full review: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G Ready to up the ante on your display? 7. If you have a number of devices in your house, universal remotes bring efficiency, simplicity, and peace to your setup - they can take control of all the gadgetry you've got installed without breaking sweat and can be upgraded via their firmware to be compatible with anything you buy down the road. Of course, like so many other things in life, there's more than one way up the mountain and you might not need a $300 hunk of plastic when a simple $35 remote would do the trick. To help you from overspending on the best universal remotes for you, we've put together a complete guide for the gadget - what you need to know, how much you should spend, and which models we really like. Even in this era of voice-activated speakers, the remote has a part to play, and the universal remote even more so: the only question is which one you should spend your hard-earned cash on? At the end of this you'll understand how they can make your life that little bit easier. Best universal remotes FAQ: quick questions answeredCan universal remotes work on all TVs? Most of the time, yes. But it'll depend on the make and model of your remote and your TV. On the whole, your universal remote should work with all TVs made in the past ten years or so. But it's worth checking out the specific requirements of each before you buy one. How do I set up a universal remote control? That depends on the make and model of your universal remote. But on the whole, you'll need to ensure that your remote is fitted with the correct batteries and that you can point your remote at the TV, or other device, you're trying to control. From there, there are a couple of different ways to search for and add new devices, there's direct code entry, auto code search, brand code search and manual code search. It'll all depend on which remote you have, so be sure to follow the set-up instructions that come with it. What are the best universal remotes? That depends on your budget. We think the One For All Essence (check it out below) is a good low cost option, but for the best of the best, take a look at Logitech's Harmony devices. Are universal remotes worth it? There are two key scenarios where universal remotes are ideal: either you've lost your original remote and are looking at a pricey replacement, or you're wanting to have fewer remote controls because your AV experience needs streamlining. If you fall into one of those two camps, then yes, they're worth it. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Kgwszi4L2rT7hBx8GmFcDV.jpg Best universal remotes What is a universal remote? To put it simply, universal remotes are just remote controls – exactly like the ones that come with your TV – but these devices are able to imitate the signals sent by your TV's original remote, AV receiver or other device. If you're wondering why you should buy one, there are two key scenarios where they're ideal: either you've lost your original remote and are looking at a pricey replacement, or you're wanting to have fewer remote controls because your AV experience needs streamlining. The best universal remotes are the perfect answer in both cases, and almost every universal remote uses infrared (or IR): the same signal protocol used by remote manufacturers as well. The best universal remotes: cheap vs expensiveIf you're wanting to save money when shopping for the best universal remote you'll want something like the One For All Essence (which is only available in the UK by the way). These remotes work by utilizing a pattern of button presses to program the remote, selecting the right set of instructions for your hardware. Manufacturers like Panasonic and Sony have only ever used a couple different patterns of instructions over the last decade or so for most of their TVs, and that means you can just cycle through them until you find the set of instructions that lets you operate the television you're trying to use. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/RdBhWWWyHbfjbor9sTyyxD.jpg The low-cost One for All Essence can replace two remotesTake a step up in price, and many mid-tier universal remotes boast companion apps and large databases that let you just select the TV or receiver you have on your mobile device: it's quicker, easier and less of a hassle to add new devices, in case your AV setup ever changes. Generally speaking, the more devices you're looking for your universal remote to support, the more money you’ll be spending. Logitech’s Harmony Elite is compatible with up to 15 devices with just the one remote for example, while low-end models, like the One for All Simple, only support one. Just like most things in the tech world, it just comes down to that classic use-case question – are you replacing a lost remote or do you just want to use just one remote instead of a half dozen unique ones? http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/vXomeesAN64fp8dfQPbvCU.jpg The Logitech Harmony Elite is one of the top-end universal remotesWhen you start getting up to the more premium rungs of the universal remote ladder, you'll start seeing remotes that allow you to set up custom macros, or 'activities'. These so-called activities let you make a single button or touchscreen press set off several commands at once. One remote activity, which you might call Watch TV, could turn on your cable box, audio receiver and TV, change the receiver to the right channel and switch your TV to the right HDMI input, for example. Another popular option is to turn all of your equipment off with a single press of a button, but it's really up to you how you configure these macros (or whatever you want to call them). The best universal remotes: who makes them? There are two main players in the universal remote control game, and they’re the ones we've listed out thus far. Logitech makes all the best high-end universal remotes, in the shape of its Harmony models, while One for All is the best brand for more inexpensive alternatives. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DgxrGUo55j6BuNNufhimFR.jpg The Doro HandleEasy is as basic as universal remotes getIn the US, you'll also see a plethora of low-price remote controls from RCA. And if you're buying for an elderly relative, or want a super-simple remote that only covers the TV basics, then the Doro HandleEasy lets you change volume and channels – it's been around for years, but is a great lo-fi gadget. The best universal remotes: phone optionsIf all of that preamble sounds too overwhelming, consider this: you might be holding the answer to your home entertainment solution in your hand right now. That's because some phones will also function as universal remotes, although perhaps not the models you may think. They need to have a feature called an IR blaster, which enables them to transmit the same signals as a normal remote control. These used to be somewhat common, but are now much rarer: current phones with an IR blaster include the Honor 9 and Huawei P20 Plus, and some Xiaomi phones have one too. The common thread is of course that these are Chinese companies. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/2tGnrpFj99ww84NQJ9Gvyi.jpg The Honor 9 is one of the few new phones to have an IR blasterThe most recent mainstream phones to feature IR blasters were the LG G5 and LG V20, while the last flagship Samsungs with IR were the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, and those came out several years ago. These phones have apps that let you configure your own setup, with on-screen buttons for (almost) all your remotes' functions. We know people who owned phones with IR blasters a few years ago, but who ended up spending a significant amount of cash on a universal remote, oblivious to their phone's abilities. Have a phone with an IR blaster? You might want to check out a third-party remote control app like Peel or Sure, as these have a smarter interface than most of the built-in apps you'll come across. The best universal remotes: consoles and smart homesA weakness that the vast majority of universal remotes share is that they can't control most smart home devices, or indeed the Sony PlayStation 4. This is because they use either Bluetooth, RF or Wi-Fi instead of our old friend infrared. With that in mind you might not need a universal remote at all: instead, the answer might be to invest in a hub that supports these other standards, and right now you have two major options. Logitech offers the best, and the most popular one – the Logitech Home Hub is compatible with Microsoft and Sony game consoles, and a wide range of smart home gadgets including Philips Hue lights. It connects to your home Wi-Fi network, and can be controlled either by a mobile app or one of Logitech's higher-end remotes if you prefer. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/HFE3rhoDU9XT4DH7qYjn47.jpg Logitech's Harmony Hub levels-up the abilities of universal remotes Using one of the Harmony series' tasty macro activities, you could therefore set the lighting level for movie night, as well as turning on your AV setup, with a single press on a button... welcome to the future. Elsewhere, the Broadlink RM and RM Pro are hubs that can control IR and RF (Pro model) devices through a mobile phone app. They're significantly cheaper than the Logitech Home Hub, although as they don't use Bluetooth you can't use them to control a Sony PS4 console. That gives you another low-cost way to make up for the lack of an IR blaster. Best universal remotes: voice controlOne additional benefit of the Logitech Home Hub system is that you can already control it through Amazon's digital voice assistant Alexa. If you have an Amazon Echo, or an Echo Dot, or any other product with Alexa built-in, you can add a Harmony skill to it: using this you can say something like "Alexa, tell Harmony to turn on the TV", and it'll do exactly that (we've tried it out as part of our research for this guide, and it works rather well). http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/uXEHGTJ3AEW3Z94M9TXt8Y.jpg You can now use your voice as a universal remote, with the right hardwareOne day we'll be able to control everything over Wi-Fi, but until that day arrives, it's reassuring to see that universal remotes aren't content to become 'retro' gadgets – they’re actually keeping up with the times. Logitech Harmony at a glanceAs the Logitech Harmony series is easily the most important range of universal remotes for people looking for an experience to suit a high-end setup, let's take a quick look at what’s on offer. The Harmony family has two main lines – there are newer remotes that work with the Harmony Hub, and older pure IR remotes that don’t. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/cfbQEuCgozr6EVMNBambC9.jpg The Harmony Ultimate is one of Logitech’s full-fat universal remotes The newer kind includes the Elite, Ultimate, Touch, Ultimate One and 950 models, all of which have screens. Logitech's Companion remote supports the hub but doesn’t have a display, making it a little more affordable. Those after something even less pocket-draining for their universal remote should check out the Harmony 650, which has a display but no Hub support, and the Harmony 350, a basic £35/$38 remote that's a classic universal remote but can still combine the functions of eight remotes. So, what is the best universal remote?http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Kgwszi4L2rT7hBx8GmFcDV.jpg The best universal remotes At $250 (£99, AU$449), the Logitech Harmony Elite obviously no small investment – and if you're not absolutely serious about the form and function of your home entertainment setup, then you needn't bother. But for anyone who wants one remote to control just about everything, you'd be hard-pressed to find anything that is both this functional and relatively easy to use out of the box. If your setup is complex and you're seeking some automation in your routine, or you just can't stand the sight of a handful of differently-shaped remotes laying on your couch, then the Logitech Harmony Elite might be a luxury worth splashing out for. Despite the occasional hitch, it's a powerful universal remote that can wrangle your audio/visual madness, plus it looks and feels pretty good doing so. Got your ultimate remote? Good. 10. The world of beatboxing is full of artists using their voices in ways speech scientists have never seen before – finding new techniques for playing the instrument they were born with. But does the human voice have more to offer, and can we use technology to push it further? That’s the subject of We Speak Music – a series of six short documentaries created by Nokia Bell Labs, film production company Lonelyleap, and award-winning beatboxer Harry Yeff, better known as Reeps One. It turns out understanding what our voices are capable of is very important for lots of different discussionsReeps One The first three episodes are available to watch now on YouTube channel Swiss Beatbox and Nokia Bell Labs’ website, with the next three landing on March 23, March 30, and April 4 respectively. Throughout the series, Reeps One travels the world, learning about the potential of the human voice for creating sounds and connecting people, and finally using machine learning to create an AI voice – coming full circle and creating an artificial human drum machine. In the final documentary, Second Self, he will perform a duet with his ‘digital twin’ – an AI beatboxer taught using his voice as a dataset. Old anatomy, new innovationsBeatboxing is a global language, so we asked Reeps One what it is that connects people from so many disparate backgrounds. “Beatboxing is just another word for vocal experimentation, which is not an intuitive connection,” he says. “But it turns out understanding what our voices are capable of is very important for lots of different discussions. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/p2UW7CpGYnNbsjyYnjtkb5.png Image credit: Nokia Bell Labs; Lonelyleap “From communication to understanding motor control, speech therapy and now voice-controlled technology, it's an open-ended, heated discussion how such an old part of the human anatomy can still hold so many innovations. “To many peoples’ surprise, it seems like you cannot separate the human voice from every part of human connectivity and in the last few years there has been a boom in new physical capability with the voice and it's a big question, after millions of years why now?” Shaking the boxThe series is part of Nokia Bell Labs’ Experiments in Art and Technology (EAT) program, which has been partnering with artists to create experimental performances for 50 years. I have a mission to go out into the world and make people think about the human voice in a new wayReeps One Although his voice is his instrument, Reeps One is no stranger to pushing its boundaries using experimental technology. As well as creating an AI vocal twin, his projects over the last year have included bouncing his voice off the moon, and created a 1,000,000 particle digital vocal sculpting tool. “Technology allows us to go further than we ever dreamed,” he says. “It's a way to create new experiences in the arts and allow for old and established ideas to be challenged with a fresh angle, this is my job when it comes to the human voice, to shake the box.” http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/M4hYAX8UnC8UHp3U2P7AzU.jpg Image credit: Nokia Bell Labs; Lonelyleap Hearing the AI for the first time was a huge moment, but he says the human side of the project was equally exciting: “The people I met along the way, going to the Lavelle School for the Blind and seeing how beatboxing is teaching young people to speak and articulate or capturing a global community of new artists, I can't choose really.” It’s not just a short-term project, either – Reeps One says the experience has changed the way he’ll make music in the future, without a doubt. “I have a mission to go out into the world and make people think about the human voice in a new way, and find the artists and engineers who are helping push the conversation onward.” Watch the series on YouTube or Nokia Bell Labs' site. 11. CD Projekt Red has confirmed it still plans to release two AAA titles by 2021. While we know one of these titles will definitely be dystopian RPG Cyberpunk 2077, we're still in the dark about what the second title could be. This release window was reaffirmed on the official CD Projekt Red forums, with moderator Donata Popławska confirming the studio is sticking to its original roadmap. "As far as the strategy of the CD Projekt Capital Group for 2016-2021 is concerned, its plans to release the second AAA game by 2021 remain unchanged," the moderator wrote (translated via Resetera user Antiax). Most anticipated games 2019: upcoming titles for PS4, Xbox One and SwitchBest gaming headset 2019: the best PS4 and Xbox One headsets this yearBest PS4 games 2019: essential PlayStation 4 releasesHowever, Popławska did not expand on what the second AAA title to be released in this time frame could be. "We are currently focusing on the production and promotion of Cyberpunk, so we do not want to comment on further projects," they continued. What's next for CD Projekt Red?http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oLmBoqiNycCcMVKmB5EkVc.jpg The developer previously revealed its plan to release two AAA titles by 2021 but often, due to a variety of reasons, plans change. Fortunately, it seems that hasn't been the case with CD Projekt Red which still intends to follow its previously laid-out roadmap. We are hoping that this second title could be the long-awaited next entry in The Witcher series (fingers crossed). But then again, it's entirely possible that CD Projekt Red is working on another new IP. Hopefully E3 2019 will shed more light on the situation, as we know CD Projekt Red will be making an appearance. (Image credits: CD Projekt Red) Read more: Waiting for Cyberpunk 2077? 12. Cyberpunk 2077 is a neon cyberpunk game that has The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red moving from a gritty, high fantasy world to an equally gritty, science fiction world metropolis. It's based off the pen-and-paper RPG of the same name, but plays a hell of a lot like The Matrix game we've always wanted. We caught our first peek at the game behind closed doors at E3 2018 – you can check out what we saw in the 48-minute walkthrough video below. What you'll see in that time is a game that looks vastly different than The Witcher series, with towering neon skyscrapers, bionic enhancements and a focus on vertical movement rather than wide open plains. It's also all in first-person. The internet is crawling with news and rumors about this PC, Xbox One and PS4-bound game, so we’ve collected everything that's been said about Cyberpunk 2077 here for your convenience and we'll be constantly updating this page as more details emerge. [Updated: Cyberpunk 2077 will still be released by 2021 - alongside an unannounced title.] Cut to the ChaseWhat is Cyberpunk 2077? A brand new IP from CD Projekt RedWhat's the Cyberpunk 2077 release date? No official release date but late 2019 seems possibleWhat systems will Cyberpunk 2077 be released on? PS4, Xbox One and PC (and we’d expect the 4K console iterations too)Cyberpunk 2077 trailersAfter a veritable truckload of hype, CD Projekt Red has released 48 minutes of gameplay footage, based on the demo journalists saw at E3 2018. In it, you'll see what gunplay looks like, character creation and backstory assignment, plus how you'll upgrade yourself via cybernetic enhancements. You'll meet some of the characters in Cyberpunk's seedy crime circuit and explore the city on foot and in vehicles. (Quick warning: the trailer contains nudity, violence and swearing.) Check it out below: We were treated to a brand new Cyberpunk 2077 trailer during E3 2018 which you can watch below: After an extremely short title reveal trailer, in 2013 we were treated to a more than two minute long teaser trailer although it didn't reveal much about what will be in the actual game. It did, however, capture Cyberpunk's futuristic setting incredibly well and let us know that when it comes we can expect something dark, dangerous and visually stunning. At the end it also looks like we get a look at the Braindance technology discussed further down. March of 2019 saw the development team gearing up for the E3 2019 showcase event, and ahead of that shared a video letting us all know how work on the game was progressing. Those hoping for a 2019 release may want to start to brace themselves however – though the game remains without a release date, the suggestion of the video below is that development is still in full swing, and a release date may be some time away yet: Cyberpunk 2077 is the game that could make me leave meat space for goodWaiting for Cyberpunk 2077? Here are nine games to play until releaseHenry Cavill is bewitching in first clip from Netflix's Witcher seriesCyberpunk 2077 release dateIn the game’s official teaser trailer it’s stated that the game will be coming “when it’s ready.” Though we'd hoped that would mean a 2019 release date, it's starting to appear as though it will slip into 2020. This is despite an investor call in early 2016 that suggested that Cyberpunk 2077 would be released before June 2019. It was also said in this call that CD Projekt Red is planning to release two new triple A RPGs before 2021. It was later clarified in forums that Cyberpunk 2077 would be the first of these games to arrive and work on the second would not start before Cyberpunk 2077 was finished. Considering The Witcher 3 took around three and a half years to develop, a 2019 release didn't seem unmanageable for the studio. But the scale of the development, as well as rumours of the game being a cross-gen Xbox Two and PS5 title, is starting to make it appear as if the game will take longer than initially anticipated. As well as a deadline they’ve no doubt set for themselves, the studio also has a deadline from the Polish government. In December 20017 they were given a grant of more than $5 million from the government to research new game techniques related to multiplayer, animation and city creation. The sizeable sum came with a project deadline attached and if it does relate to Cyberpunk 2077 then it’ll mean the game really does have to be released in 2019. The government said so, which ironically isn’t particularly Cyberpunk. In a 2017 , CD Projekt Red revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 is under "intensive development" and that at the time there were more than 300 developers actively working on it. For context, there were 100 developers working across Gwent and the Witcher 3's 4K patch. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qLcui8MaTJhRwoSq7GMAKW.jpg Cybperunk 2077 news and featuresCD Projekt Red is working on two AAA titles - to be released by 2021 CD Projekt Red has confirmed it still plans to release two AAA titles by 2021. While we know one of these titles will definitely be Cyberpunk 2077, we're still in the dark about what the second title could be. However, Popławska did not expand on what the second AAA title to be released in this time frame could be. "We are currently focusing on the production and promotion of Cyberpunk, so we do not want to comment on further projects," they continued. Cyberpunk 2077 will be at E3 2019 According to a tweet from the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account, CD Projekt Red will be at E3 2019. So hopefully that means we will be seeing more gameplay footage from Cyberpunk 2077. Lady Gaga could be making an appearance? According to french site ActuGaming, Lady Gaga and CD Projekt Red are collaborating for Cyberpunk 2077 and the artist has already visited the Polish studio to take part in motion-capture - suggesting she will have a character role in the game itself. In addition ActuGaming claim the collaboration will be officially announced at E3 2019, with Gaga rumored to be making an appearance at the gaming convention. Last year Gaga tweeted a strange mix of letters and numbers, which the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account replied to with "Of course! Of course we will!", suggesting the A Star is Born actress would be involved with the game in some way or another. Check out the tweet below: E3 2018 confirmed features We got to spend some time watching a demo of Cyberpunk 2077 during E3 and we learned some interesting things about the game. It's a first person RPG set in a huge open world known as Night City - the city will be split into six districts, each offering a different environment to explore. During the demo we only saw a small part of one of them. Players can create their own character called V and embark on their journey to crawl up from the criminal underbelly. This is a dark game and though The Witcher series is mature, this takes it to a new level. As you'd expect, the game lets you augment your body using various bits of tech - illegal or otherwise - and you can use drugs to enhance your combat. Speaking of combat, weapons are wide ranging and seriously creative with smart guns and bullets as well as terrifying Mantis Blades for melee. There are no loading screens in Cyberpunk 2077 and the story and side quests are branching and numerous, and your choices genuinely impact the outcome. You can read more about how impressed were were by what we saw. E3 2018 secret message CD Projekt RED used the Xbox Showcase to show its latest trailer for Cyberpunk 2077. But it's more than just a trailer. Spotted by Polygon, there's a moment in the trailer with hidden text with more information on the game which is revealed when you enhance the image. In the message CD Projekt first apologises for "staying silent longer than we planned" but following the release of The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine the developer wanted to wait until it had "something meaningful and substantial" to show. It goes on to say that the vision for Cyberpunk is "an alternative version of the future where America is in pieces, megacorporations control all aspects of civilized life, and gangs rule the rest." This game will, CD Projekt says, be a "true single player, story-driven RPG" where you'll be able to create your own character. At the moment the developer isn't ready to confirm any kind of release date and asks for more patience. It also says it has "no bloody clue" about how big the game is but does say it's "seriously big." Players should "expect nothing less" than what they got with The Witcher 3 when it comes to DLC and expansions. Oh, and there won't be a single microstransaction. GDC news CD Projekt Red likes to keep its cards close to its chest but over the past week we've learned some interesting things about Cyberpunk 2077. The developer has announced that it's opening a new Wroclaw studio to expand production on the game and company President Adam Kuciński has recently dropped a few more details at the recent The most significant thing is that he confirmed this is a single-player narrative driven game and there are no multiplayer plans in motion right now. that doesn't mean they won't happen – the developer confirmed them years ago and a battle royale mode was humored at this very event – but they're not the focus for now. Another important reveal was that the game will be full-price with no additional microstransactions or hidden costs. Most excitingly, though? It was confirmed that the game will appear in some capacity at this year's E3. It could be on the next generation of consoles CD Projekt Red has hinted that Cyberpunk 2077 could be developed for both current and next gen titles. GamingBolt has reported that during a presentation at the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar 2018 event, the studio's CFO Piotr Nielubowicz and CEO Adam Kiciński mentioned Cyberpunk 2077 hinted that it may be being developed for future hardware. The stated the team was developing the title for “current and next-generation technology”. We're not entirely sure what this could mean given that we don't actually know when the next generation will begin and both consoles are currently in a 4K half-gen state. However, it'd be reasonable to guess that it could mean that, like Grand Theft Auto 5, Cyberpunk 2077 could be developed for current generations and then appear on PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox. It also leaves us wondering about when exactly Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to launch – it could be another year or two yet if this is anything to go by. It will be on Steam Good news Steam fans: Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely be coming to the platform. At the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar (via PCGamesN) the studio’s CEO Adam Kiciński gave a presentation in which he confirmed that the game would not be exclusive to GOG. This isn't hugely surprising given other games from CD Projekt have also appeared on both Steam and GOG but we shouldn't take anything for a given, and it's good to have this confirmed. Plans for E3 It's been a while since Cyberpunk 2077 has appeared at a big gaming show. However, recent rumors suggest the game could make an appearance at E3 2018. After there were stirrings of life on the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account we have to admit we wondered if that was all we were going to get for the year. But hopes are being raised thanks to recent reports from leading Polish games site GRYOnline. According to GRYOnline, two separate sources have said that Cyberpunk 2077 will have a public trailer at E3 2018 and that there'll also be a playable demo behind closed doors for press. There is precedent for CD Projekt Red taking this approach; in 2013 the developer showed off a trailer for The Witcher 3 while showing press a demo behind closed doors. The game was then released two years later. Whether or not these rumors are true has not been confirmed by CD Projekt Red, but GRYOnline is a credible site. At this point we'll just have to wait and see, but the recent stirrings of life on the game's Twitter account are at least another good sign from the developer itself. At the very least, CD Projekt's Red's presence at E3 2018 has been confirmed by the appearance of its logo in the show's official participant banner. Whether or not it's bringing Cyberpunk 2077 news to the show, however, remains unconfirmed. Signs of life on Twitter For a while now it's been all quiet on the Cyberpunk 2077 front. Well, it was until January 10 when the game's official Twitter account made a noise for the first time in more than four years. What did this momentous tweet say? Well, see for yourself below. Yes, that's the first tweet since December 2013. So we have no more information, but we do know there are signs of life in that Twitter accounts which suggests this could be the year we find out a little more about this highly anticipated game. Because surely the 2077 in the title isn't actually a release date. It’s going to be bigger than The Witcher 3 It would have been a pretty safe guess to say that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be a big game, but in an interview with MCV in 2015 visual effects artist Jose Teixeira said it’s going to be “far, far bigger” than anything the studio has ever done. In fact, he said that The Witcher 3 was being treated as a learning experience and that they could do better. To do better, the studio has doubled in size with studio head Adam Badowski saying that after The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 needs to be “even better, even bigger, even more revolutionary” than what had originally been planned. You’ll be travelling on more advanced tech than boats and horses So, we know the game map is going to be intimidatingly big. How will we get around it, then? Well fortunately, moving out of the high fantasy realm gives CD Projekt Red a little more freedom when it comes to creating vehicles. Don’t expect horses and basic boats here – a job listing for a Senior Vehicle Artist for the studio said they’d be expected to work on “incredibly complex vehicles, planes, bikes, robots and mechanics.“ It’ll have a big single player story We don’t imagine we’ll shock many people when we say this but Cyberpunk 2077 will take place in the year 2077. Specifically CD Projekt Red has confirmed it’ll be set in a place called Night City. Night City’s streets will be huge, filthy, and invested with drug problems. As you’d expect from the Cyberpunk genre, there’ll be a huge wealth gap, where the rich and corporations preside over poverty-stricken citizens, many of whom are driven into gangs. Desperate for escape, many of the poor residents of Night City turn to an addictive escape known as Braindance which for just a few hours allows them to feel physically and mentally like they’re someone (anyone) else. According to CD Projekt Red they’re “digital recordings of a person’s experience. The viewer can stream a braindance directly into his neural system via special brain augmentations, called a BD player. Braindances allow the viewer to experience all brain processes registered, including emotions, muscle movements and all stimuli perceived by the recording person.” http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/cn8HgyJr9mACsNFtAHnWNZ.jpg Braindance experiences that place you in the lives of the rich and glamorous are naturally sold by corporations. However, much darker and illegal Braindances that can turn those using them into bloodthirsty killers are also distributed on the black market. In this incredibly dark world you’ll play a young man that’s been raised in the lowest section of society but wants to make something of himself and rise out of the gutter. Like most Cyberpunk protagonists we imagine he’ll be something of an anti-hero and find himself embroiled in the criminal underworld, manipulated and forced into difficult situations. How Braindances will be used by or on the protagonist is unclear. The game will be an RPG like The Witcher 3 and videogame character progression will fit in well to Cyberpunk’s world of physical and mental augmentations. It’s based on the Cyberpunk board games, the creator of which, Mike Pondsmith, has been working closely with the development team to ensure it stays true to the source material and doesn’t lose the Cyberpunk at its core. This contrasts with the studio's relationship with the author of the Witcher novels, Andrzej Sapkowski, who has always been ambivalent about the games. But there will be multiplayer elements It was confirmed years ago that the game would have multiplayer elements but what exactly they’ll be is unclear. It was said, though, that the game would mainly focus on single player. The company president said in March 2018 that these elements are not on the table right now, so it's possible that they'll be introduced after the game's release in a sort of online world like GTA Online. There will be online As well as multiplayer, CD Projekt's CEO has confirmed that there will also be online elements to the game. In an interview with Polish tech site Strefa Inwestorow Kiciński stated that “Online is necessary, or very recommended if you wish to achieve a long-term success. At some point, we have mentioned that there will be a certain online element related to Cyberpunk.” In the same interview the CEO said that the team wanted to experiment in fields that weren't explored in The Witcher and that "we’re interested in Cyberpunk being commercially even more significant.“ Whether or not the online elements will feed into the multiplayer is unclear. But there won't be microstransactions Following the above interview for Strefa Inwestorow in which CD Projekt's CEO confirmed there would be online elements in the game fans began to fear that there would be an abundance of microstransactions involved. The studio has since tweeted to quell these fears, stating that Cyberpunk 2077 will be "nothing less than" the Witcher 3, adding that players will "get what [they] pay for" with "no hidden catch." It appears that while many studios are feeling the need to move to a service model to ensure their titles make money, CD Projekt is staying committed to the story-driven single player experience with Cyberpunk 2077, one which served them very well with The Witcher. Things we'd like to seeCombat inspired by the original tabletop RPG We know that the designer of the tabletop RPG Cybperunk on which Cyberpunk 2077 is based is heavily involved in the creation of the game. We hope his involvement extends to the game's combat because the combat system he created in his own game was fairly revolutionary for the tabletop genre. Rather than involving drawn out and long turns, it was fast, brutal, gritty and overall perfectly suited to the spirit of Cyberpunk. A big part of Cyberpunk combat involves upgrading your body with new abilities and robotics which would be perfectly in line with a video game character development system like those created by CD Projekt Red. In Pondsmith's game bodily enhancement has to be carefully considered – it's a balancing act where every benefit has a drawback. When a player makes robotic additions to themselves they reduce their humanity and empathy leading to an uncontrollable state of cyberpsychosis. This has the potential to be a really interesting system if it's adapted for the game and could be used in a similar manner to excessive consumption of combat-enhancing potions in The Witcher. 13. Ready for a punishing weekend? Good – the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the latest game out of the FromSoftware studio (they of Dark Souls and Bloodborne fame) is almost here. And with it comes the first wave of critic review scores. Thankfully, it looks like it's another brutal-but-fair blinder, masterfully weaving the live-die-repeat formula of the 'Soulsborne' games with a new aggressive combat system and a world which channels some of the spirit of Tenchu, a similarly ninja-themed adventure from the developer's back catalogue. Read on for the thoughts of gaming critics around the web, but first: where's TechRadar's review? We're still waiting to recieve code from publisher Activision for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but hope to share our initial thoughts in the coming days. With it being a sizeable and challenging game, expect to see us deliver our final verdict following a 'review in progress' format to ensure we give you as in-depth a conclusion as our constantly-being-killed ninja skills can manage. Best PS4 games: will Sekiro make the cut into this list?Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice release date, trailers and newsE3 2019: everything we expect to seeSekiro: Shadows Die Twice review scoresPolygon – 'Recommended' "I have to put in a lot of work and effort to meet Sekiro on its own terms, but what might feel ponderous in a lesser game becomes rewarding in one created with this much care. Sekiro meets me with just as much effort and enthusiasm as I’ve put into it. It lets me know I’m capable and skilled, and that I can figure it out. "And then it hands me my ass again." [Full review] IGN - 95/100 "Sekiro evolves From Software’s formula into a stylish stealth-action adventure that, naturally, emphasizes precision and skill in its combat. It walks the line between deliberate and patient stealth and breakneck melee combat against threats both earthly and otherworldly. Its imaginative and flexible tools support a more focused experience that shaves down some of From Software’s overly cryptic sensibilities without losing its air of mystery. Sekiro is an amazing new twist on a familiar set of ideas that can stand on its own alongside its predecessors." [Full review] PlayStation Lifestyle - 9.5/10 "Untethered from the expectations that come with a Dark Souls or Bloodborne game, FromSoftware was able to create a game that maintains the studio’s unique identity while allowing them to explore interesting new mechanics and ways of telling the story. Sekiro is challenging, but fair—a game with the goal of allowing the player to grow, rather than the avatar. It blends mechanics and narrative in a way that is too rare in games today, allowing for a deep level of immersion that begs for just one more clash of blades no matter how difficult the encounters get. Seeing each one to its bloody finish is well worth the trials it takes to get there." [Full review] Gamespot – 9/10 (review in progress) "Sekiro marries From Software's unique brand of gameplay with stealth action to deliver an experience that is as challenging as it is gratifying. At the time of publish I haven't completed Sekiro. While I have invested upwards of 30 hours into it, there are still a few more locations I need to explore and bosses I need to beat before the credits roll, and I'm excited to do it." [Full review] Game Informer – 9/10 "Sekiro’s story moves in strange and compelling ways that defy the initial adherence to the trappings of feudal Japan, and allows the player to discover multiple endings and confrontations depending on choices and secrets. It’s a challenging journey through a weird and wondrous world that forces you to learn and master its punishing combat to succeed. However, the sweet thrill of victory keeps you pushing forward despite myriad disheartening deaths. Sekiro is one of the most difficult games I have ever played, but for those seeking adventure, exploration, and a truly realized ninja fantasy, the trek is worth the high demands." 14. British home technology manufacturer Dyson may be best known for its vacuum cleaners, but it’s fast becoming a big name in the wellbeing and personal care market, thanks to its recent innovations in hairstyling and home air purification products. Now Dyson has launched two new products in this field; the LightCycle task light and the Pure Cool Me personal purifying fan are part of Dyson’s pledge to “give you control over many of the factors that impact your wellbeing, including the air you breathe, and the light, dust, and allergens you’re exposed to''. Dyson AirWrap reviewRead our Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Link reviewBest vacuum cleaners 2019According to Dyson, the LightCycle is a task light that’s “designed to improve visual acuity and provide the right light for the time of day” by adjusting its color temperature (how warm or cool the light appears in terms of color) and brightness “in relation to your local daylight”. It does this by using a “unique time, date, and location-driven algorithm”, which was created using data from “a million satellite-based measurements of light conditions in the Earth’s atmosphere at different times of day”. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/FYv3GX9oeaDpQ3ALnpMZ2B.jpg Image credit: Dyson Small light, lots of dataThe LightCycle itself contains a 32-bit microprocessor, which interprets this data, communicating it to the optical driver for “dynamic color tuning”, allowing the LightCycle’s warm and cool LEDS to simulate daylight color temperatures. You may be wondering why you would want such a complex light. Well, according to Dyson and institutions like Harvard Medical School, “low light, flicker, and glare can cause eye strain and visual fatigue”, which Dyson seeks to alleviate with the LightCycle’s “glare protection and low optical flicker” features. For added personalization, integration with the Dyson Link app means the LightCycle adjusts light output for your age and daily routine. It’s available in desk and floor variants, for $599.99 - $899 / £449.99 - £649.99. This works out at around AU$820 - AU$1200, but it doesn’t look like it’s available in Australia yet, with no word on when it will be rolled out to this territory. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/BZnpgQ4iL4nF5uenT9tmSK.jpg Image credit: Dyson Dyson has also announced the launch of the Pure Cool Me personal purifying fan, which features some of the air filtration and air projection technology we’ve seen in previous products like the Pure Hot+Cool purifying fan heater. With its small stature, the Pure Cool Me is designed to sit on your desk, bedside table, or anywhere else you could do with a steady flow of fresh air. Aside from keeping you cool, the Pure Cool Me is made to filter the air you breathe in your home. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/opu4TFWiXf3GEWy4kKgYxb.jpg Image credit: Dyson Dyson says that the HEPA filter within the fan can capture 99.95% of “ultrafine particles such as pollen, mould spores and bacteria” while activated carbon “absorbs and traps gases, odours, and household fumes.” While the company makes no claim that the fan could alleviate health conditions, the removal of many ultrafine particles could be an attractive prospect to those with allergies, or indeed, anyone who’s concerned about indoor pollution. The Pure Cool Me personal purifying fan is available to buy for $350 / £299.99, which works out at around AU$490 based on current conversion rates – again, Dyson hasn’t issued an Australian release date at this time. 15. Despite having best practice guidelines in place, new research from ESET and Kingston Digital has revealed that 70 percent of organizations are failing to take the necessary steps to secure their business. To compile their research, the two firms surveyed over 500 British business leaders to better understand how they are protecting their companies from cyber threats. ESET and Kingston found that there is a significant disconnect between the IT teams that put best practice guidelines in place, procurement teams that provide business equipment and employees that are intended to follow the plan. USB devices pose a significant threat to industrial facilitiesYour printer: it's a vulnerable, connected deviceIoT devices now top priority for cybercriminalsUnsecured removable devicesThe research highlighted the fact that a staggering 44 percent of businesses admitted to not securing removable devices using antivirus software which leaves their IT systems exposed to cybersecurity risk and high fines from GDPR and other regulations. By making just a small investment into encrypted USB flash drives, organizations can better protect their infrastructure and even possibly their reputations. Cybersecurity specialist at ESET, Jake Moore explained that British businesses need to move beyond the first step when it comes to improved cybersecurity posture, saying: “British businesses are certainly taking the right steps forward. Putting together the best practice guidelines is, of course, the first step. However, more needs to be done. IT teams must work closely with other departments to ensure that employees are following the guidelines on a day to day basis and they have the right tools to protect their work and the entire organisation. Even though we see some businesses secure their removable devices, all it takes is one infected USB to bring down the whole IT network. When it comes to security, companies need to be 100 per cent secure and recognise that there is no room for error.” Keep your devices protected with the best antivirushttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/KY2jPPboQU4

And while it was reported that the upcoming console would release in 2019, we weren't exactly sure when that might be - until now. According to a report by Windows Central, the disc-less Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will release globally on May 7, 2019. It also looks like the console will come bundled with Forza Horizon 3, Sea of Thieves, and Minecraft digital codes and 1TB HDD. What is the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition? The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is exactly what it sounds like, a disc-less Xbox One S that is only compatible with digital downloads rather than physical copies. However, if you are worried that Microsoft's move into solely digital consoles will render your physicals discs obsolete, then do not fret. According to a report by Thurrott last year, Microsoft is rumored to be bringing in a 'disc-to-digital’ program that will allow you to trade in your physical discs for digital downloads. Phew. Windows Central suggests the new console will be revealed in April. “We do not comment on rumors or speculation," a Microsoft spokesperson told TechRadar in response to our request for comment on the rumors. 17. The Motorola One Vision will be Motorola’s next smartphone running Android One, according to a new leak which details the phone in full. A source speaking to XDA Developers revealed the name of the phone, as well as a whole range of specs and features, giving us a detailed picture of the prospective handset. Are 5G phones the future?Check out what we thought of the iPhone XSIs the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus the best plus-sized phone?Android One is a simplified version of Android without apps, features or bloatware added by phone manufacturers – it was initially designed for low-end phones but it’s slowly making its way to more advanced handsets. What are the details?According to the leak, the Motorola One Vision will have an Exynos 9610 chipset, a departure from Motorola’s usual choice of Snapdragon processors for its phones, and either 3GB or 4GB RAM depending on the model. In addition it’ll release with 32GB, 62GB or 128GB internal memory, with availability differing from region to region. The leak doesn’t provide too much information about the screen on the One Vision, although there are hints that it could have a 21:9 aspect ratio similar to the Sony Xperia 10 and 10 Plus – and having reviewed those phones we’re far from convinced of the usefulness of 21:9. The device will reportedly have a 48MP main camera, although at this time we don’t know anything else about the camera setup, such as the resolution of the front-facing snapper and whether there will be any additional rear cameras. If the leak is to be believed the phone will come with a 3,500mAh battery, which is a step down from the Motorola One Power’s 5,000mAh, but still a sizeable power pack. Although this leak is detailed it’s unverified, so it might actually relate to another Motorola phone, or be completely made up – but the One Vision does sound like a logical step from the Motorola One. Motorola already has two phones running Android One, the Motorola One and Motorola One Power, and it’s not clear if this third handset would be a ‘plus-sized’ version of the previous two or an entirely standalone device. 18. Some more big-name games have been announced as exclusives for the Epic Games Store, including The Outer Worlds from Obsidian Entertainment – with a slight caveat, more on that later – and Control developed by Remedy Entertainment. Epic announced these exclusives – and many more – during its GDC 2019 keynote, and they follow other major victories for the store such as snatching The Division 2 and Metro Exodus away from the likes of Steam. Indeed, Epic announced an extension to its agreement with Ubisoft, the publisher of the former, to “bring several major PC releases to the store in partnership with their Uplay division”. The exact games in question weren’t revealed, but Ubisoft will provide details down the line. These are the exclusives Epic kicked off withBattle of the online stores: Epic Games Store vs SteamSo which are the best graphics cards for PC gamers? The new titles which were announced as Epic Games Store exclusives were numerous, though, with some impressively high-profile outings. Control freaksAs mentioned, they include Control, a supernatural action-adventure developed by Remedy with the publisher being 505 Games, and The Outer Worlds, a sci-fi RPG developed by Obsidian and published by Private Division (a subsidiary of Take-Two). Another exclusive published by the latter is Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey from Panache Digital Games, an open world survival game following the evolution of the human race, from the creator of Assassin’s Creed. It’s worth noting that The Outer Worlds won’t be a strict exclusive, though, as it will also be available on the Microsoft Store too (but not elsewhere). Finally, another point scored for Epic is the fact that Quantic Dream will be bringing PC versions of its big hits Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human, to the store. A number of other exclusives were announced, including: Afterparty from Night School StudiosThe Cycle from YagerDauntless from Phoenix LabsIndustries of Titan from Brace Yourself GamesJourney to the Savage Planet from Typhoon Studios and 505 GamesKine from Chump SquadPhoenix Point from Snapshot GamesThe Sinking City from Frogwares and BigbenSpellbreak from Proletariat IncSolar Ash from Heart Machine and Annapurna InteractiveEpic is certainly building up considerable momentum in its bid to challenge rival digital platforms like Steam, helped along not just by these sort of deals, but also the quality freebies which have been given away since the store launched. The company further revealed that Metro: Exodus sold 2.5 times more copies in its first few weeks on the Epic Games Store, than its predecessor, Metro: Last Light, managed to sell on Steam in the same time period after its launch. 19. The Baselworld 2019 watch expo is underway, and one of the first smartwatch announcements from the show is the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 Golf Edition – a golf-focused version of the company’s Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 Wear OS smartwatch. The Modular 45 Golf Edition differs from the standard model mostly in terms of the design, which here comes with a black ceramic bezel with the words ‘Golf Edition’ written along it. The bezel also has the numbers 1-18 around it, to indicate an 18-hole round of golf. The body of the watch uses black PVD titanium, while the strap is made from black and white rubber, and there are green accents on both the strap and the body of the watch. These are the best smartwatchesWant to get in shape? Check out the best fitness trackersOn a budget? Have a look at the best cheap smartwatchesBasically, it’s a very golf-inspired look, and the company has also launched a ‘Tag Heuer Golf’ app to go alongside the watch. This lets you see maps of over 39,000 golf courses, see the distance to greens and hazards, measure shot distance, save scores and more. However, this app is compatible with other Tag Heuer Modular 45 watches and even with the Apple Watch, so it’s not an exclusive feature. The same againThe specs and features of the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 Golf Edition are much the same as those of the standard version, including a 1.39-inch 400 x 400 screen, GPS, NFC, a 410mAh battery, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and water resistance to 50 meters. And this isn’t a cheap device, coming in at $1,850 / £1,600 / AU$2,650. That makes it even more expensive than the already pricey standard Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45, which starts at $1,550 / £1,200 / AU$2,300, and which can get much more expensive depending on what materials you choose. If you want the Golf Edition it’s available now – and it comes with three Tag Heuer-branded golf balls. 20. Heading to the beach or the pool? Maybe you're just overdue a long shower (no judgement here), and if you want to take your music with you, you totally can with a waterproof speaker - as long as it's got an IP67 rating that is. We're still waiting for flying cars and near-sentient robot house cleaners, but waterproof and wireless Bluetooth speakers are one device that technology has already delivered on. While no one ever really intends to get their portable speakers wet, accidents and bad weather can happen, and if kids are any part of your life you'll know mishaps can be very difficult to avoid. So even if you're not planning on taking a swim with a Bluetooth speaker strapped to your back, you're still going to love the peace of mind that a waterproof speaker can bring, which is why we've gathered up the best ones for you. Our aim here is to help you get the most for your money. We've tested a not-so-insignificant amount of portable speakers in our time, and have found a handful that can resist the wonders (and terrors) of the great outdoors. Stick with us and we'll be sure to find a waterproof speaker that works for your budget and requirements. What is a waterproof (or water-resistant) speaker? While waterproof and water-resistant aren't synonymous, they roughly translate to "water won't ruin it". Waterproof is the better of the two, as it usually carries an IP67 rating that means it can withstand to float in around a meter of water for a half-hour before it bites the dust. Water-resistant, on the other hand, means it could survive a splash or two, but it's not the kind of thing you'd just want to casually throw in the pool. When hunting for the best waterproof speaker for the great outdoors, look for its IP rating. This is how water resistance gadgets are categorized. You'll see that IP mark, followed by two numbers – IP67 is one of the most common, and means the speaker can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes. This is the one you want. Of course waterproofing isn't the only thing we looked for when picking out this list of top portable speakers. We also considered factors such as sound quality, price and feature set, all of which helped establish a set of criteria that we could measure all speakers against. What you see below is the result of that effort – our definitive list of the 10 best wireless portable waterproof speakers. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/q3mePqz5TBDm3ViZ2VRP6X.jpg Image credit: TechRadar If you want a waterproof speaker that doesn't look like a waterproof speaker, get the Denon Envaya DSB-250BT. It'll fit into a classy living room but has IP67 water resistance, letting it withstand a full-on dunk. This is also the best-sounding speaker of its size, with meaty bass and audio balance you might expect from a hifi master like Denon. There's an Envaya Mini if you want something smaller, too. Any complaints? To make the water resistance work, the speaker has rubbery panels instead of clicky buttons, and they aren't half hard to depress sometimes. But if that isn't a minor quibble, what is? It also stands well above its weight class, with weighty bass for a speaker so small, and music that sounds balanced and rich. You can even pair the Wonderboom with two devices simultaneously. It may not have the largest soundstage and doesn’t have a speakerphone option, but the Wonderboom still ticks a lot of the right waterproof speaker boxes. This speaker features a battery that can last more than 20 hours – and can even charge your phone in a pinch – and it also features the meatiest bass out of all the waterproof Bluetooth speakers in this list. The JBL Charge isn’t exactly the most lightweight speaker in the world, but if you’re a bass head and you don’t mind adding a bit of weight to your bag, the Charge 3 might just be for you. This is a speaker that can get loud and not distort at higher volumes; be light enough to carry on the move but remain durable enough to tumble in a bag unprotected. It's water-proof as well as dust-proof, and has a one-touch mix button that lets you pull up your favorite playlists without needing to pick up your smartphone. There are certainly more detailed speakers out there (see: Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin down below), but at a price that's relatively affordable to all, the UE Boom 3 hits all the right notes for the third year in a row. Ultimate Ears now lets you customize your UE Boom 3, so you have even more options when it comes to color and pattern combinations. The Fugoo Style not only offers the longest battery life of any speaker on this list (40 hours!), but it also comes in at a tiny one pound. Fugoo’s design philosophy is to offer different ‘jackets’ (Style, Tough or Sport) to fit around its ‘core’ speaker to fit different styles. The Fugoo Style waterproof speaker offers a great blend of size, sound fidelity and battery life for an affordable price. While it’s light show may lead you to believe that it’s all a gimmick, the Pulse 3 actually offers a very well balanced tonal balance: Highs have good extension but are a little rolled off. Bass offers good slam and texture, but bleeds into the mids a little. If you’re not an audiophile, none of this matters – it sounds darn good and gets loud, making it the perfect companion for your next pool party. If you want a great sounding Bluetooth speaker that’s both waterproof and a conversation piece, the JBL Pulse 3 is the speaker to get. Its larger size means that the Megaboom can get loud and can last up to 20 hours at a sensible volume. Bass is stronger and richer than its smaller UE Boom 2 and Wonderboom brothers, and this is the speaker for anybody who wants to really blare their music at a party. For people who want to save some cash, however, the JBL Charge 3 is half the price and performs similarly. This small speaker packs a stealthy punch, providing deep bass with a nice impact, but it obviously can’t match the sound of the larger waterproof speakers in this list. Now, while the SoundLink Color II sounds great, you should note that it’s not entirely waterproof. It’ll survive splashes and rain, but you don’t want to drop it in the bath, so be aware of that before buying. The waterproof speaker comes with its own float, which lets you listen to and control your tunes in the pool, something no other speaker on this list can do. It might not sound quite as good as the UE Wonderboom, as it’s lacking in the bass department, but it’s still a solid sounding speaker. If you don’t care about the form factor and float, however, the UE Wonderboom is the better buy. The Go can also pair with another Go speaker to play in stereo, something that other speakers on this list can’t do. Sure, UE allows you to pair up multiple speakers for more volume, but you won’t get true stereo playback. While we recommend the Fugoo Style for its class-leading battery life and excellent sound, the Fugoo Go is a good alternative for a lower price if you need a waterproof speaker. 21. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/YNKy4smKVebZZoDfGu3t5h.jpg TechRadar editors spend their days reviewing the best and the worst tech products on the market, so they usually know which ones consumers will actually like. But while you can trust their judgment on which companies make the most reliable laptops or phones, sometimes it’s safer to try them out for yourself first before buying anything. And PAX East, where the top tech companies gather to show off and sell their newest and best gaming laptops and PCs, is a great place to do just that. If you have a ticket to PAX East 2019 anytime from March 28 through 31, we highly recommend you check out Booth #16001, where Republic of Gamers will be showing off its latest innovative gaming tech and deals!! You’ll see with your own eyes why TechRadar editors so frequently give ROG products positive reviews. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Fq58EZkFRZUoShND5bknq8.jpg If you’re attending make sure to check out the ROG Mothership (GZ700) made to redefine how you play! 22. Fledgling regulation has yet to really make itself felt in the Internet of Things (IoT). We’ve seen the Code of Practice for consumer IoT security issued by the Dept for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DDCM) and also the EU’s ENISA Cybersecurity Act last year, while ETSI specification TS 103 645 was released in February but compliance with these and other regulations around the world aren’t yet mandatory, making it vital consumers protect themselves. We advise the following steps before you buy that smart device. Smart home security: 10 hacks to protect your home from hackersSmart homes at greater security risk than everProtecting your data in the age of smart homes1. Do your researchPop the name of the smart gadget or toy in to a search engine and add the word ‘hack’, ‘security’ or ‘vulnerability’. It’ll take you moments to find out if there are discussions about serious security issues. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/nHutwbQKSfjW2yc7ZCzSYf.jpg Image Credit: Google 2. Get the app before you buyDownload the app from the App Store or Play Store to your phone. If you buy it, you’re going to need the app anyway. Click on the ‘create account’ or ‘login’ section. What we want to know is whether they’re playing safe with the password you’re going to create. Create an account – add a temporary or throwaway email address then try to set the password of ‘password’. See what happens. Was it rejected for being too weak? If so, try ‘Password1’ and see if that works. If it works, the manufacturer is showing that they really don’t care. 3. Read the manual before buying Go to the manufacturers web site and find the manual. Find the pages that deal with connecting to the smart thing for the first time. If it uses Wi-Fi, how do you connect your phone to the device for the first time? Does one have to press a button on the ‘thing’ first or is the Wi-fi wide open without any passwords, or with the same password for all devices? If it uses Bluetooth, again, do you have to press a button on the smart device to put it in to ‘pairing’ mode or can anyone connect to it at any time? Having a button press or similar before anyone can connect for the first time is a good thing. It means that you can decide when someone can connect to your smart thing. 4. Does the manufacturer take security seriously? What does the vendor say about security on their web site? Do they use words like ‘military grade’ or ‘bank grade encryption’ or jargon like ‘AES 256’ or do they say nothing at all about security? A responsible manufacturer will talk about how their security has been independently reviewed and the processes they follow to keep your data safe. Do they have a ‘bug bounty’ programme to encourage hackers/researchers to report flaws. Search online for ‘bug bounty’ and the name of the product or the manufacturer. Big names in bug bounty programme management include ‘HackerOne’ and ‘bugcrowd’ among many, so you can click through to their sites to check. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/NScDTtXHXhwU8xgBwprcgA.jpg Image Credit: Shutterstock 5. Implement a strong passwordA weak password is often the easiest way to hack an IoT product. Set a strong, complicated and UNIQUE password that you haven’t used elsewhere. Use a free password manager to make your life easier. Check if your IoT app allows two step verification (a one time SMS code to your phone) or allows you to use an authenticator app. 6. How will you care for your thing post purchase?Does the device support patches and security fixes? Check the instructions to see how yours is updated. Ensure your phone allows the IoT app to check for updates and apply them as soon as you’re alerted. Update your mobile app and check to see if there are security fixes for the product too. Sometimes these will be ‘pushed’ from the phone to the IoT device. However, some updates are pushed ‘over the air’ direct to the IoT device. 23. Microsoft has unveiled a number of software upgrades that it says can help boost productivity, efficiency and security in businesses of all sizes. The software giant spoke to TechRadar Pro about some exciting updates and new releases for its Microsoft 365 platform, and how these can have a profound effect on every worker. "In this world of information workers, for far too long, IT has been in the situation of having to choose between giving a great user experience or making it secure,” says Brad Anderson, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of enterprise experiences. Where to buy Microsoft Office: all the cheapest prices and dealsMicrosoft Teams top 500,000 organisationsHow to use Windows 10: tips, tricks and everything you need to know“It feels like it has been an either/or...which doesn't translate into a good user experience,” he adds, noting that often it is not Windows which is slowing down devices, but the additional agents added on by IT departments. “We want to help IT modernise, decrease their costs, and deliver that modern workplace that is trusted by IT.” Now, Microsoft is looking to conquer these issues with a wealth of new software updates and releases for Microsoft 365 and beyond, aimed at greatly improving workplace efficiency and productivity, whilst helping reduce IT costs and workloads. Windows Virtual DesktopFirst up is the launch of Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD), what Microsoft says is a highly-optimised experience that offers a simpler, more effective way to run virtual services. "What we're seeing as the world moves towards the cloud is companies wanting to get out of the business of growing and maintaining these big server farms...Microsoft can do this,” Anderson notes. Although still at the preview stage, Anderson says that WVD will offer "the modern desktop in the cloud" - essentially, Windows 10 hosted in Azure, on a desktop in the cloud. “Having your desktop as close to the data as you can is going to optimise this experience,” he adds, “there is gravity around data.” Customers can choose whether they want this desktop running locally or in the cloud, or run Windows 10 in a shared public cloud, which can only be done there. Anderson says this can provide major boosts in speed, efficiency and security, as well as providing a simpler and more effective way to run data-hungry apps - noting it can run thousands of virtual desktop sessions a minute. Microsoft Defender - for MacMicrosoft is also revealing great strides in its security protection, primarily in Windows Defender, which is getting a new name. The company’s antivirus platform will now be coming to Mac for the first time, but as Microsoft Defender. This ticks off a common customer demand, Anderson says, noting that with the program already protecting more Windows PCs than any other commercial anti-malware (including running on over 50 percent of Windows 10 devices in commercial organisations) the need for greater cross-platform integration was key. “There’s an art and a science to building an agent that runs on Mac that is non-impactful, and is able to understand how the Mac operating system works,” he says. “One of the things that we uniquely understand is that when you build something like these security capabilities, you can do it in a way that is non-intrusive to the user experience and to the operating system itself.” Anderson notes that Microsoft’s position as one of the world’s leading software providers means it is sitting on an incredible amount of telemetry data that can be used to develop better security protection, whilst also spotting emerging threats before they go viral. He says that Microsoft’s systems receive 6.5 trillion pieces of feedback every day to analyse, alongside 630 billion authentications per month, and scanning 430 billion emails per month going through Office 365. “We kind of get a chance to see almost everything,” Anderson notes, “we have the broadest data set available of what is happening within commercial organisations...that gives us a perspective and a point of view that we can share across other platforms and is very unique.” This has led the company to also today announce Microsoft Threat Vulnerability Management, which looks to identify and target known vulnerabilities that often plague companies for long periods. Once detected and analysed in the Microsoft cloud, the system can flag the threat immediately, allowing the company to quickly roll out protection to other geographies to prevent widespread infection, as well as giving IT teams visibility into the threats that are most likely to affect their business. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bVn8x8PNJcBejBZdnxJWyY.jpg (Image credit: Shutterstock) Overall, Anderson says that the new updates will greatly enrich the Windows and Microsoft 365 user experience for all users, opening up new opportunities across the board. Put bluntly, he notes that Microsoft 365 is designed purely to help businesses and their workers work smarter and more efficiently, whilst staying secure and connected at all times. “The quality of what we're doing with Windows right now...is the highest quality we've seen in years,” he says. “Simplification is actually an architectural procedure...the simpler you are, the more secure you are.” The best free office software 2019http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/w-SnYVDcYhw
  24. While Intel spent the majority of its stage time at GDC 2019 announcing new software and 9th Generation mobile processors, the company also gave us a small tease of what its graphics card could look like. At the very start of its GDC 2019 keynote, Intel designer and artist Christiano Siquera shared the very first shroud design for an Intel Graphics Card. This design you see below was apparently published back in December 2018 and while it looks like any old, generic mini GPU, Team Blue has since moved onto a new design. On the next slide above is Intel's new shroud design with an aesthetic very similar to the company’s recent Intel Optane SSDs. Between the flared, diagonal lines and the angular look, this graphics card basically looks like a shorter, bulkier version of the Intel Optane SSD 905P. Intel’s first graphics card also seems destined to utilize a single fan, blower-style cooler based on these images. Unfortunately, there’s little else to speculate on aside from these observations. As these are just renders and Siquera noted that he’s working on nine additional designs, so this likely won’t be the final form of Intel’s future graphics card. Meanwhile, here are the best Nvidia graphics cardsAdditional reporting and images by Nick Pino http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/USSURbZ82XU
  25. Intel didn’t announce any graphics cards at GDC 2019, but the company has announced yet another platform in preparation for them as well as its incoming family of 9th Generation mobile processors. Meet the Intel Graphics Command Center (IGCC), Team Blue's equivalent of Nvidia’s GeForce Experience and AMD’s Radeon Software. Like other graphics software focused suites, Command Center’s features include automatic game detection and one-click game optimization. To help users understand how specific settings are affecting in-game graphics, the software will show before-and-after images. Initially the Graphics Command Center will only support integrated Intel graphics inside the brand's processors – with the exception of Intel's new KF-series CPUs, of course – because it's the only type of graphics Intel currently offers. IGCC will also only support Intel processors that are at least 6th Generation Skylake or newer. However, considering how few users play games with integrated graphics only, we suspect Intel is laying the ground work for future Intel Graphics Cards as well as the company's highly anticipated Gen11 graphics, which are said to give iGPUs a real shot in the arm. The Intel Graphics Command Center is now available in an early access state to all users and you can download it here. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/HRwMrPkwpEGrHLfFL28EE7.jpg Image Credit: Intel Intel 9th Generation CPUs go mobileIntel also used some of its time on the GDC 2019 main stage to introduce new 9th Generation mobile processors for laptops – though without naming any specific chips. Rather than debut some actual model names or specs, the Santa Clara-based corporation simply proclaimed that its 9th Gen Intel Core high performance mobile (H-Series) processors will power the ultimate laptops for gamers and creators. Additionally, Intel detailed 9th Generation mobile processors will add support Wi-Fi 6 AX200, Intel Optane memory and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Aside from that, Intel hasn’t shared any in-depth details about its new 9th Generation mobile lineup, but we can at least infer that these CPUs will be built from yet another iteration of the company’s 14nm+ process as Coffee Lake Refresh and Basin Falls Refresh processors. Earlier last month, Intel spilled the beans on its whole 9th Generation Mobile family of mobile processors and they are as follows. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/fSfbXgQAnqwudGxNJrbFGV.jpg Image Credit: TechRadar Bear in mind that none of these models or their exact specifications have been announced officially yet, so treat this chart above as early conjecture for now. Intel has told us it plans on launch its new 9th Generation H-series CPUs in Q2 2019 (so sometime in April, May and June).
