  1. Several major phone manufacturers are scrambling to bring out foldable phones to rival the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, and now it seems Google is planning to enter the fray. Patents from Google. discovered by Patently Mobile. show a variety of rough designs for how a foldable device could work, with handsets folding in different ways. They’re clearly very early sketches, with not a huge amount of detail, but they do suggest what kind of foldable Google is considering. This is everything we know about the Samsung Galaxy FoldAre these 5G phones the future of mobiles? What do we expect to see in the iPhone 11?The first design shows a phone that would fold down on itself when not in use, a ‘clamshell’ design, with the screen is on the inside when the device is closed. This is a form factor a few other companies are looking at, including Samsung, for a Fold-successor. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/c6cwMKsHb6pR3bGbKtsSm9.jpg Image credit: Patently Mobile Another design shows a handset that folds down in three sections, with three display surfaces that stack when folded to create one smaller device. While we’ve seen this design in a few other patents it’s something fewer manufacturers seem to be considering, as most patents we’ve seen show phones folding in two. Neither of the designs in the patent shows any revolutionary new form of flexible screen that other companies haven’t considered, but it’s interesting that there’s no sign of a ‘notebook’-type foldable like the Galaxy Fold or Huawei Mate X. What's the foldable market looking like? While only Samsung and Huawei have foldable phones that will hit the market soon, a succession of leaked patents suggest everyone from ZTE to Apple have plans to enter the market, and these handsets come in a range of designs from ‘clamshells’ that fold down to ‘notebooks’ that open up. It’s likely that every major phone brand will eventually bring a folding device to market, but Google does have one advantage over the competition. The company has already announced that it worked on a specific Android build for foldable phones, which Samsung and Huawei now use, so it’s clearly been thinking about folding devices for a while. We don’t expect to hear anything official about Google’s devices for some time – the company doesn’t launch phones in the numbers many other other brands do, and it usually announces them at the end of the year, so we’ve a while to wait before we get any official word on the handsets. We’ll keep you updated with all the leaks, rumors and news about Google’s foldable, and all the other folding devices headed to the market. These are all the confirmed and rumored foldable phones we're expectinghttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/qqX8P7QlbWo
  2. Huawei has built its own PC and mobile phone operating systems as a contingency plan should it be barred from using Android, the company has revealed. Heightened political tensions between the US and China, along with Huawei’s legal difficulties in America, have increased fears that the company might face a similar punishment to the one imposed on rival ZTE last year. ZTE was found to have violated a previous settlement for violating US trade sanctions against Iran and barred from dealing with US companies. Huawei faces fraud chargesUS 'has no evidence' for Huawei claimsWhat is 5G? Everything you need to knowHuawei OSThis saw it unable to procure the components necessary for its smartphones and networking equipment and brought into question its ongoing ability to use the Google-developed Android. ZTE virtually shut down for four months and only the intervention of US President Donald Trump ended questions about the firm’s survival. Given Apple and Google account for virtually the entire smartphone OS market, any barrier to accessing the US market would be a huge blow for Huawei’s ambitions. It is currently the world’s second largest smartphone maker and has the goal of overtaking Samsung next year. Attempts to create a third viable platform have been unsuccessful over the past decade. BlackBerry 10, Samsung Tizen and Firefox OS are but three failed projects, while Windows Mobile enjoyed modest success before Microsoft gave up too. The South China Morning Post reports that Huawei has been working on an alternative since 2012 and in an interview with German newspaper Die Welt, the company’s mobile head confirmed the software’s existence. “We have prepared our own operating system, if it turns out we can no longer use these systems [Android], we will be ready and have our plan B,” Yu is quoted as saying. A company spokesperson reportedly added clarification, adding that Huawei didn’t expect to have to use the platforms and didn’t really want to as it was happy with Android and Windows. Huawei has largely been excluded form the US market over national security concerns, but its challenges have multiplied and escalated in recent months. It faces 23 charges of bank fraud, obstruction of justice and technology theft in two separate indictments. The first concerns 13 counts of financial fraud, the breaching of economic sanctions against Iran, and money laundering, while the second involves 10 counts of theft and charges related to the theft. 3. As companies continue to deploy software that helps them manage their work and increase productivity, so too do they need to manage their security. To better understand the role that security plays during digital transformation processes, TechRadar Pro spoke with Andrew Filev, founder and CEO of the collaborative work management platform Wrike. How significant a concern is security during digital transformation processes?Digital transformation certainly raises the stakes when it comes to security, and as a matter of principle, security should be a top concern for every company. If you’re online, paperless, or connected, then you and your business are at risk of a cybersecurity breach or attack. Hardly a day goes by that we don’t hear about one security breach or another. Last year saw a total of 1,244 reported data breaches in the US, according to a recent report by the nonprofit Identity Theft Resource Center. While this number was down from 2017’s all-time high of more than 1,600 breaches, the number of compromised records exposing sensitive, personally identifiable information (PII) went up by 126 percent. This doesn’t even include the 1.26 billion non-sensitive records that were also exposed. This trend, as unfortunate as it is, is unlikely to go away anytime soon, especially as more and more of our lives are played out in the online digital space. Security must be an early consideration for every purchase; both in our personal and professional lives - and that includes IT security practitioners who are making decisions that will impact the security of their company, and potentially their customer’s, data. We need to transition from being horrified or surprised by every security breach and accept it as the new norm. Once we understand that, we must then accept that there is no such thing as 100 percent secure. We can only work to better protect our data; as well as our customers’ data and reduce the impact and severity of potential breaches if they happen to our company or us. We need to understand that nothing is truly impenetrable because the moment you believe you are “secure” is the moment you open yourself up to an attack or breach. Security is an ongoing practice and journey. It is the pursuit of security - not by only mitigating the risks of today but anticipating the threats of tomorrow - that prepares us for dealing with the unexpected. What challenges are enterprises currently facing when it comes to deploying cloud-based enterprise technology?More than 250,000 organisations have adopted a collaborative work management (CWM) solution by our estimates. Most of these deployments have been in SMBs or with specific teams or departments within enterprise companies, but enterprise-wide deployments are rare for cloud CWMs. Enterprise-wide deployments are the final frontier for cloud CWMs, but enterprise adoption is largely contingent upon security. Many enterprise companies haven’t been able to get into the cloud software game because their security needs aren’t being met. As a result, enterprises are missing out on all the cloud has to offer: fast, innovative cloud solutions to challenges like scalability, software updates, mobile connectivity, etc. All too often their hands are tied because they need an on-prem solution that they can control and manage. In an age of mobile devices, remote workers, always-on customers, and lightning-speed innovation, cloud software is no longer optional if you want to remain competitive — even for the most traditional of enterprises and industries. Why are you addressing security in the collaborative work management space now?Security has always been a key objective at Wrike, and it continues to be a core priority for the company as we expand into new markets. We have given equal attention to solving work management problems while addressing the security needs of our customers. From local SMB’s up to and including fortune leading enterprise customers. Security is quickly becoming the competitive differentiator for those in the CWM space, especially those looking to appeal to the global enterprise customer. Concurrently it’s also crucial for those who want to future proof their offerings for SMBs. It won’t be long before the enterprise security requirements of today find their way into SMBs. Wrike refuses to merely meet the industry standard minimum requirements for security in the enterprise. We’ve understood this from day one, which is why security has always been one of our core pillars, and we’ve continuously pushed ourselves to solve more than just collaboration or work management challenges, but the ever-evolving security challenges for SaaS vendors as well. Bare minimums won’t fly in the enterprise and SMBs shouldn’t be settling for less either. They need to take cues from enterprises when it comes to something as precious as data. How does this differentiate Wrike from its competitors? The Wrike security strategy includes a comprehensive approach across five categories: physical, network, system, application, and people. We are committed to making Wrike the most secure CWM on the market, which is why we rolled out the next wave of new security features on March 14, including a few that enable our customers to be open and collaborative, while also being secure. Our new customized access roles, access reports, and selective sharing features allow companies to combine open collaboration with access and edit control to prevent data from being incorrectly modified, intentionally or otherwise. One new feature that I am particularly excited about is Wrike Lock, which essentially allows customer management of encryption keys for all cloud-stored content. We are the only CWM to offer something like this. Wrike Lock makes a cloud CWM a viable option for many enterprise companies for the first time because they are able to own and manage the keys to their encrypted data. Wrike Lock now makes it possible for our customers to control access to their data just as they are able to do with traditional on-prem solutions. We also announced cloud access security broker (CASB) integration support, which will allow customers to use the CASB offering of their choice to enforce enterprise security policies on their Wrike data. This enables them to quickly spot unusual user activity and better protect data stored in the cloud. I am also proud to share that Wrike recently completed ISO 27001:2013 certification from the British Standards Institution for all its business processes and the whole of the Wrike application. Wrike’s ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification demonstrates that Wrike has a complete end-to-end security framework and a risk-based approach to managing information security and further illustrates Wrike’s commitment to a mature and robust security strategy. This certification is the globally recognized standard for the establishment and certification of an information security management system (ISMS). What security features should companies now expect when deploying enterprise software?First and foremost, Single Sign-On (SSO), along with effective encryption options, should be a part of every deployment. SSO integration allows for the near real-time management, audit, and reporting on user management from a centrally managed location while allowing all duties to be handled by internal staff. Along the same lines, effectively deployed encryption tools will enable a company’s security organisation to centrally manage and control visibility into company data stored across various systems. With the ability to control user access to internal resources while controlling access to data, these two security features are very effective in reducing potential security threats. Second, the ability to selectively share and unshare content at a very granular level is essential in organisations that are more dynamic and fast-paced. You don’t want your outside contractor to see too much, but you also want them to get enough to be productive. You want this happening in an environment that puts your business user first - otherwise, they’ll slip into shadow IT territory and sooner or later will use less secure ways to share data. You also need the ability to audit content access periodically, as well as on an ad hoc basis. This allows you to tie loose ends, as well as to deploy targeted user education to reinforce IT policies and guidelines. Finally, the pace of digital transformation makes it impossible for IT to control every aspect of data and sharing. This makes it increasingly mission-critical that your whole organisation becomes an ally in the security journey, which brings me to a critical point: As a buyer of IT technologies ourselves - with a comprehensive security review process, of course - we’ve seen more than a few vendors that had the features and capabilities we needed, but didn’t place enough focus on security so we weren’t able to move forward with the deployment. Make sure your enterprise software partner is as passionate about security as you are - if not more so. Andrew Filev is founder and CEO of Wrike. 4. The waiting is over: Tesla has finally unveiled the Model Y, an all-electric mid-sized SUV, which is due to begin hitting the streets in Q3 2020. When Tesla CEO Elon Musk first set out on his dream of making electric cars not only cool, but profitable, the automotive world seemed to let out a collective chuckle. Thirteen years later and Tesla is one of the coolest car makers on the planet, and with a recent report of taking £2.79 billion in revenue, it clearly isn't doing too badly with sales either. The Model Y is Tesla’s new compact SUV, and completes the running joke in Elon Musk’s naming scheme, with the Model S, Model X and the recent Model 3. The Model 3 was originally going to be called the E, making it a perfect fit, but due to a legal clash with Ford over the use of the letter E, Tesla went with its visual numerical equivalent, leading to jokes like this: Details of the Model Y were scarce for months following its announcement, but following its official launch at Tesla's LA Design Studio in March, we finally know some of the car's specs. Below, we've listed everything we know so far. Cut to the chaseWhat is it? The compact SUV from electric car giant Tesla What’s the range? Up to 230 miles for the standard-range version, 280 miles for the dual-motor AWD and premium versions, and 300 miles for the long-range model. How do I reserve one? You can configure your Model Y and place your order on Tesla's website. When is it out? Deliveries for the three higher-end models will start in 2020, with the standard-range variant hitting the streets in early 2021.What will it cost? Prices start at $39,000 (about £29,000, AU$55,000) for the standard-range version. The long-range variant will be $47,000 (about £35,000, AU$66,000), the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model will be $51,000 (about £38,000, AU$72,000) and the performance version will be $60,000 (about £45,000, AU$85,000).How fast is it? The performance variant of the Model Y has a top speed of 150mph.Tesla Model Y: what is it?"It starts with a Y, ends with a Y, and has Y in the middle," said Tesla CEO Elon Musk as he introduced the latest vehicle in his company's lineup at its California Design Studio. The Tesla Model Y is an all-electric compact SUV. It will be available in four variants: standard-range, long-range, dual-motor all-wheel drive, and performance. The Model Y seats seven, with a panoramic glass roof like the Model 3 and high seating. The front trunk and split-folding second-row seats providing 66 cubic feet (1.9 cubic meters) of storage space. The Model Y has no keys, and is instead locked and unlocked using a smartphone app. The car also supports remote unlock, summon, remote pre-conditioning, and speed limit mode. Infotainment is controlled via a single 15-inch touchscreen in the dashboard. Musk says he expects the Model Y to be feature-complete with self-driving later in 2019, once it has regulatory approval. New features will be added via software updates. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5qvTQhUzj6J8aHKQ9wdZqf.jpg Tesla Model Y. Image credit: Tesla Compact SUVs make sense as a move for Tesla, considering the success of other compact SUV’s like the Toyota RAV4 and Ford Escape in the US market. Musk is obviously aware of the value of the compact SUV market, referring to it at the “biggest product segment in the world”. Tesla Model Y: release dateTesla Model Y deliveries are expected to start in Q3 2020 for the long-range, dual-motor all-wheel drive, and performance variants. Deliveries for the standard-range version are expected to begin in Q1 2021. Originally Musk had claimed that the Model Y was going to be manufactured in a way entirely independent of the Model 3, and was due for a 2019/2020 release. However, at a later earnings report, Musk changed his stance and said “The Model Y will be using substantial carryover from Model 3, which means it will come to market much faster.” Sadly though, that's not going to happen, as on a recent conference call in May 2018, Musk confirmed the Model Y wouldn't enter production until early 2020. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/YKEXLJNPMPZmvoeksnrE6J.jpg Tesla Model Y. Image credit: Tesla Tesla Model Y: what about performance? The performance version of the Tesla Model Y will accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 140mph. The standard-range variant will take 5.9 seconds to reach 60mph, and will have a top speed of 120mph. The standard battery will have a range of 230 miles, while the long-range battery boosts that to 300 miles. At the launch, Musk noted that this will be the average usable range that you can expect from the car in real life. Tesla Model Y: how safe is it?Musk said he expects the Model Y will be the safest mid-sized SUV in the world so far. He noted that the Model 3 has the lowest probability of injury of any car tested by the US government, and predicted that the Model Y will achieve similar results. The battery pack sits low in the car's floor, giving it a low center of gravity that will provide stability and, according to Musk, make it "ride like a sports car". The Model Y also has large crumple zones and a rigid substructure to protect you int the event of an accident. What's next for Tesla? At the Model Y launch, Musk insisted (tongue firmly in cheek) that Tesla will be on Mars in 10 years, but the company has yet to announce any details of the cars that will follow the Y. We'll update this article as we learn more about the Model Y and its successors, so keep checking back here for all the latest. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ka9ei7QXfuZJnmFc8dGfWA.png Tesla Model Y. 5. Imagine being able to carry a magic vault around with you. Always secure, it allows you to retrieve and use private information located in similar vaults anywhere across the globe at a whim. This is no longer a luxurious dream with Always on VPN. Virtual private networks (VPN) are a hot tech topic, and they are becoming more prevalent than ever in both public and private environments. Taking advantage of this technology is a must, and why wouldn’t you when methods such as Always On VPN are safe, easy to use and accredited by the national cybersecurity centre? Always On VPN also uses IPv4, which means that all popular software is compatible with the system. Before stepping into the world of VPN though, it is important to understand how to implement it effectively. This requires technical knowledge, updates and some reconfiguring of server-side systems. Opera browser adds VPNThe future of enterprise VPN will be software-definedFacebook shutters Onavo VPN appStep one: understandingAlways On VPN allows secure remote access to corporate networks from a Windows 10 client. In lay terms, it allows workers to access locally stored documents in a secure manner while off-site; reducing travel and streamlining communication. Technically speaking, Always On VPN allows remote devices to send requests to a secure VPN server. The server then relays the request to a corporate Network Policy Server (NPS) which validates the request and, according to the relevant security criteria, decides how to respond. The VPN server is protected on both sides by firewalls to prevent malicious attacks. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Uo2jVKqeYtMmBTZ3ZqFKwT.jpg Image Credit: Pixabay Step two: implementingThe first step in implementing Always On VPN is to update the server-side infrastructure. This includes installing a public key infrastructure (PKI) to make sure each user has a valid certificate, a dedicated VPN server and an NPS. Once the infrastructure is updated, the VPN server will have to be configured to accept remote access requests. A popular method of doing this is using the Internet Key Exchange version two protocol (IKEv2), due to its proven security. Choosing a selection method means that the VPN will need updating to deny all other forms of connection to maintain security. VPN in place, the NPS can be set up to handle all authentication, authorization, and processing of connection requests from the VPN server. NPS installed means that, after installing the necessary firewalls, all the server-side infrastructure is ready. At this point, the internal domain naming system (DNS) will need updating to handle remote requests to resolve the VPN address. Step three: roll outWhen the infrastructure is in place, it is necessary to make sure that all devices with Always On VPN are using Windows 10. Once the devices are updated with the right operating system, there are a host of different tools for configuration, allowing them to communicate with the corporate infrastructure. As part of the roll out you should consider how contractors will use the system and the benefits they can bring. Curo Talent has many years of experience in supplying Microsoft contractors, but all too often the list of candidates is limited by the clients’ need to hire local talent. Always On VPN enables organisations to hire contractors from anywhere in the UK (or overseas) and allow them to work remotely. It also gives firms the security of being able to limit which files a contractor can access. The final phase in rolling out Always On VPN is teaching your employees how to use it. Luckily the point of the technology is to streamline communication and, as such, there is very little technical knowledge to be acquired. However, even though this is a secure system, refreshing staff on company security policy and IT best practice is always a good idea and can help prevent any unforeseen issues. IT projects are increasingly global, meaning that being able to access information from multiple sources at once is becoming ever more crucial to success. Being able to carry a vault of your important documents around in your pocket is now becoming more of a necessity than a luxury. 6. Smartphones provide incredible flexibility for the home consumer or business user, not least with the profusion of apps available to use. It doesn't matter whether you're just looking to write a shopping list, make creative notes, or take business minutes and reminders, there are a lot of options available. This is not least with Android being the most widely-used operating system for smartphones, with over 85% market share which makes it an especially important platform to have the tools you need and want to use. Whether you're just typing text, writing with a stylus, or scribbling with your finger, there are a lot of different note-taking apps for Android out there. Some are focused more on just taking simple notes, while others come with more features and functionality that can turn your smartphone into a digital notebook, or workbook. We'll therefore take a look at what we think are the best in note-taking apps for Android, according to a range of different features and use options. Also take a look at the best productivity apps for mobilehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ifihxhQG243homX8jBmX9Z.jpg Image Credit: Google For decades, Microsoft has dominated the software scene, and things haven’t changed today. Offered as part of the Office family of productivity apps, OneNote is one of the most popular and capable note-taking apps you can get. This app is capable of a great deal, whether you want to capture information from emails or embed Excel tables. This app is a multi-platform affair which is hooked up to the cloud, meaning that if you’ve written some notes on your laptop, you can pull these up in a meeting via your smartphone. OneNote works across Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices. The Android app is easy to use and works as a flexible canvas, letting you type, handwrite, draw and clip things you find on the web. What’s more, you can even scan notes made on paper and make them searchable through OneNote. To organize your notes, you can create tags, labels, to-do lists and follow-up items. It’s also possible to categorize notes based on their importance. OneNote allows for collaboration, letting you share your virtual notebooks with anyone. People can leave comments and follow-up questions on your notes as well. The best thing about OneNote, though, is that it’s completely free to download while offering a plethora of premium capabilities. You can download OneNote herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ugWJ6tCAgRKDZmTkdEfp7h.jpg Image Credit: Google Evernote is a well-respected and powerful productivity app. It’s described as an organization and planning app that lets you take both typed and handwritten notes, create to-do lists, scan documents using your camera, and collaborate on content with others. The great thing about Evernote is that it makes use of a variety of media. For instance, you can create notes in text form, or as sketches, photos, audio, video, PDFs or web clippings. Just like Microsoft’s OneNote, this app is underpinned by cloud technology. That means you can sync content across all your devices from computers through to tablets and phones. In other words, if you start a task on one device, you can complete it on another. With Evernote, you can create, share and discuss content with your colleagues as well. The app is currently free to download, but the business package – which gives you most of the collaborative tools – costs $14.99 per user per month. You can download Evernote herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Trg6RSFWJk4wb2BMYrdoS5.jpg Image Credit: Google Material Notes is a streamlined app that allows you to create notes, to-do lists and reminders. These are all color-coded and stored within a card-style interface to keep things better organised, and to make it easy to find relevant information. You also get the ability to mark important notes with stars, and these are saved within a category based on the urgency of projects. To ensure you never misplace an important note or list, you can easily locate anything by making use of the app’s search function. Plus you can create and place widgets on your home screen, which give you quick access to your notes. In terms of security, you can create a four-digit pin for all your notes, ensuring that sensitive information doesn’t get into the wrong hands. And the app allows you to easily and swiftly import content stored on other devices. Material Notes is free to download, with premium plans costing up to $9.29 (£6.70). You can access these as in-app purchases. You can download Material Notes herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/wBrsPLhriywuseBoKdDaDA.jpg Image Credit: Google Google offers a highly capable note-taking app in the form of Keep, which allows you to create as many notes and lists as you want. And you don’t need to stick to mere text – you can also add images and audio to your notes. In fact, there’s even the ability to record memos for the app to automatically transcribe. That’s particularly handy if you’ve had a light bulb moment and want to get it noted down somewhere quickly. Similarly to OneNote, you can scan handwritten notes, receipts, invoices and other documents through your camera. Google Keep is a pretty decent productivity app for teams, too. You can easily share notes and collaborate with others. Other features include color-coded labels, reminders and the benefit of multi-platform support. The app is free to download from the Play Store. You can download Google Keep herehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/xgnUik2U7QobcguiCVJYEK.jpg Image Credit: Google It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when an app is weighed down with tons of features, many of which you might never use. Simplenote is designed for people who just want a quick, easy-to-use piece of software to jot down spontaneous ideas. Just open up the app, and right away you can create notes and lists. As you continue to use the software and amass more notes, you’re able to organize them with tags and pins. Every time you create a new note, it’s stored in the cloud and can be accessed through other devices. The app is completely free to download and use. You can download Simplenote hereOther note-taking apps for Android to considerThe above are only a small selection of the number of note-taking apps available for Google's Android operating system. There are plenty more available at the Google Play store and we'll cover some of the most popular alternatives below: Keep My Notes is an all-purpose notepad application that works offline and allows you to password protect entries. You can write with text, stylus, or a finger, and you can also include images and audio files. Various themes are available. It's free to use, but it does include adverts unless you pay around a dollar per item to turn them off. Notepad is a simple but colorful way of working with taking and presenting different notes. It doesn't run like a notepad, more like a notice board where you can organize your notes, such as checklists, shopping lists, writing notes, or business comments. You can organize notes according to color, label, or category, which makes it really easy to use. It's also free, but includes ads. Samsung Notes is Samsung's replacement for S Notes and Memo, and is a general notepad for organizing text, images, and audio. Where it differs from others are the extra features for scribbling or sketching, with various color editor options that make it as much as an all-purpose sketchbook as a notepad, depending on what you want to get from it. Notes is another general notepad app which allows you to organize text, images, and audio. It has a simple but clean look that makes it easy to work with. Notes also allows for password-protected areas, and is free to use when running ads, which can be switched-off using an in-app purchase of about two dollars. Classic Notes is one of the simplest apps listed, and this is probably one of its selling points. While it allows for taking basic notes, it doesn't do much more, so people not so use to smartphones and apps should be able to get a lot of use from it without becoming so confused by features and options present in other apps. It's free to use, but contains ads. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/3GQXCOzC0SU
7. It was only last week that Amazon announced it was bringing the concept of its Outlet Store to Australia. This is the section where shoppers can find great savings on thousands of clearance items from across the site, and which aren’t usually listed in the deals section. However, if you're looking to save on electronics and electric goods specifically – which we assume is the case if you're reading TechRadar – Amazon Australia has now gone one better and revealed it'll be holding a regular weekly sales event just for this category. Called (somewhat uninspiringly) 'Electric Deals', the event will run over two days each week, beginning Tuesdays and continuing through into Wednesday. The offers will be exclusively on consumer electronics and, Amazon says, will even include big-ticket items such as Sony TVs, Bose soundbars and Samsung mobile phones. Amazon has divided the electronics products that will be featured in this sale into five categories: Watch – includes home entertainment products like TVs, soundbars and home theatre accessoriesPlay – gaming laptops, monitors and gaming accessoriesListen – speakers, headphones and other audio accessoriesCreate – computers, printers and office productsCaptures – digital storage, cameras and photography accessoriesAccording to Amazon, the ongoing sale events will feature one of the above categories each week and will follow a cycle: for example, if one week is “Watch”, then the next week could have products in the Play category, followed by Listen and so on. To kick off the series, Amazon has a handful of products from Watch and Listen, with discounts on TVs, soundbars, headphones and more. We’ve listed some of the best offers right here: Given all the above items are above $49, delivery is, of course, free. But if you want to ensure you can avail of Amazon’s fast two-day delivery, then you’ll need to sign up for a Prime membership. For free, fast delivery and a host of other benefits, sign up for Amazon Prime nowFast and free delivery is not the only benefit you get from Amazon Prime. You can also participate in Amazon’s member-only Prime Day annual sale event, which is usually held in the month of June. According to Facebook, there are roughly 700 million users across the globe who engage in video game-related content each month, whether it's chatting in gaming communities, playing games or watching people stream. In an effort to bring these people together and give them a new home for gaming, the social network has announced that it's currently rolling out an updated version of its mobile app that brings a brand new dedicated Facebook Gaming tab. Once updated, the refreshed app will include its new tab in the main navigation bar, allowing users to jump directly to video game news, streams, groups and other related content. "We're also continuing to beta test a standalone Facebook Gaming app on Android, which includes more features than you'll find in the Facebook Gaming tab," said Facebook's blog post. "We’re getting feedback from the gaming community as we consider further rollout plans." At present, the dedicated gaming tab will only be visible to "a small subset of the more than 700 million people who enjoy gaming on Facebook each month." 9. We're in for one hell of a fight tonight! Mikey Garcia is ascending two whole weight classes to take on Errol Spence Jr in a title bout for the latter's IBF welterweight belt. Spence is arguably the world's best fighter at his weight, so the appeal for legendary fighter Garcia to show him who's boss is easy to see. And talking of easy to see...with this guide, we'll tell you how simple it is to get a Spence vs Garcia live stream no matter where you are in the world. Garcia (39–0, 30 KOs) has an undeniably stunning record and is taking a big risk by moving up in weight category to take on the welterweight champ. While Spence Jr (24–0, 21 KOs) holds the experience in his favour as the resident in the weight class he also has an extra benefit as this is his turf in a more literal way - he grew up in Texas. That should mean he has the crowd behind him too during this super fight. Both fighters are undefeated and are both ranked in The Ring's top 10 pound-for-pound fighters – but someone will almost definitely lose their perfect record today. While Garcia has won titles in four weight classes, Spence holds the world title in the welterweight arena where some of the greatest talent in boxing currently exists. As a measure of this fight's importance, WBA regular welterweight champion and legend Manny Pacquiao will be attending this match to watch it live. And you can watch it live too as if you were right there with him. To catch everything online, you've come to the right place. 11. Valve just announced that its Steam Link Anywhere software is now in open beta testing on Android, Raspberry Pi and Steam Link devices. As a software successor to the original Steam Link hardware that Valve killed off at the end of last year, Steam Link Anywhere allows you to stream any game from your Steam library to whichever of those aforementioned devices you choose. Keep in mind you'll need strong enough internet signal for both the home PC and whichever device you’re streaming to for the whole setup to work. Before Valve killed it off at the end of last year, the Steam Link was the best way to stream your game library from your PC to your living room. The drawback, however, was that the Link only worked on your home network. Need a controller? The Sony DualShock 4 should do nicelyWe've also got a roundup of the best open-world gamesCould the Epic Games Store rival Steam?Steam Link Anywhere promises a more versatile experience, one that you can take with you... well, anywhere, and doesn't require additional hardware. The future of game-streamingWhat Valve is doing with Steam Link Anywhere mirrors a lot of what's happening elsewhere in the industry. Sony's PlayStation Now software streams a library of games from Sony's server to the PS4 and PC, while Microsoft has been hyping its upcoming xCloud software that will stream games to iOS, Android and, according to some rumors, even Nintendo Switch. The difference between these services is that PlayStation Now and, presumably, xCloud, will be streaming games you don't own via a subscription service model whereas Valve is simply making your own games available to you for free - a model that will appeal to more cost-sensitive gamers and those of us with already-massive Steam libraries. In the same press release introducing Steam Link Anywhere, Valve said it will make more announcements at next week's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, specifically around new Steam Networking Sockets APIs that should make developing lag-free online play even easier for Steam developers. 13. Now that Nvidia Turing heavy hitters like the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2060 have arrived, the best graphics cards are more powerful (and expensive) than ever before. So, do you splurge on an expensive flagship? Or, do you go for a more budget friendly graphics card like the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 – perfect for 1080p gaming? No matter what you go for, you’ll be able to use the best graphics cards to play the best PC games from Anthem to Devil May Cry 5. Remember that the best graphics cards can vary wildly depending on what kind of PC you’re planning to build, so finding the best one can be hard. Luckily, we went ahead and gathered together all the best graphics cards on the market, at every price point and use case. So, before you go out to pick up one of the best graphics cards, we’ll help you find the perfect one for your rig. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/LApgbBPKeSFAgssPmeBLsk.jpg One of the biggest complaints we had about Nvidia Turing when it first launched was the astronomical prices. But, with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060, Nvidia brings value to the Turing lineup – or, at least, more value than was there already. With the RTX 2060, you’ll be able to run pretty much everything at 1080p with max settings, comfortably experience 1440p and you’ll even be able to break into 4K. And, then there’s the RTX features – even at this level, ray tracing is possible at 1080p. Read the full review: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/QcEGodRHAXWw7PaPRZujRM.jpg If you’re looking for the best graphics card, and you’re not ok with compromising, you may want to consider the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. Without a doubt, this is the most powerful graphics card you can buy without going for a professional solution. And, especially now that games like Battlefield V and Metro Exodus actually use the RTX features, there’s never been a better time to jump on the raytraced bandwagon. Just brace yourself for that price tag. Read the full review: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qCbpufKLxXR2byuN85PQhd.jpg If you want to stick to QHD, with some brief forays into 4K, you might want to check out the RTX 2070. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 brings the new Turing architecture to the mid range with performance that dwarfs the GTX 1070 that came before. Not only will you be able to play everything at 1440p, but you’re going to get insane performance – up to 120fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. However, you should consider that the RTX 2070 is significantly more expensive than its predecessor, so that trade off in price-to-performance may not be worth it – especially if you’re coming from a Pascal card. Read the full review: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/SK5M8xULzJbFokbqAkcbGm.jpg When Nvidia first launched its Turing lineup, it was hard to find a model that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. However, with the launch of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, and specifically the PNY XLR8 Gaming OC model, next-generation performance is attainable for everyone. You won’t be able to do 4K 60 fps gaming with this card, but it’s absolutely perfect for anyone still using a 1080p panel. At that resolution, you’ll have trouble running into any title that slows you down. There aren’t any RTX features here, but since there are only a few games that use them, that’s not really a dealbreaker. And, with the Radeon VII, AMD wanted to reclaim a piece of the high-end graphics card market, and it certainly did, but maybe not in the way AMD intended. The AMD Radeon VII holds its own in gaming, but where it really shines is content creation. Packed with 16GB of HBM2 memory, the AMD Radeon VII is going to excel in creative applications, and will easily compete with much more expensive cards. And, these days, that’s going to be the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080. Packed with the latest Turing architecture and the VirtualLink VR connector, you won’t have to worry about choppy VR performance making you sick. And, outside of VR, you should be able to play all your favorite PC games at 1440p and 4K without breaking a sweat. Read the full review: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/sBKBQcpGf7eprcznDR6oFJ.jpg If you’re setting out to build a microATX or a mini-ITX gaming PC, you shouldn’t have to settle for a low-end GPU. You can find mini graphics cards like the Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Mini. And, sure it’s not the latest and greatest GPU out there anymore, but the 1080 Ti has a lot of life left in it. Plus, when you can get that power in a card that’s just 211 x 125 x 41mm, the loss in performance is totally worth the beautiful mini PC you’ll get. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/4KfrJhCcRYqeDzRZkVvQS9.jpg These days, with all the expensive graphics cards, more budget-friendly products sometimes slip through the cracks. We think that’s a shame. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 deserves all the spotlights, delivering fantastic 1080p performance at a budget price. With the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 OC 6G, you’re also getting a healthy factory overclock and all the outputs you’ll ever need, so you can play all your favorite games and have plenty of monitors attached. We’d call that a bargain, maybe the best we’ve ever had. In a time where graphics cards cost as much as rent, it’s an affordable, but potent GPU that can play most eSports games well above 60fps. It’s a bit pricier than the lower-end Nvidia GTX 1050, but you’ll appreciate the extra power behind this card to play future eSports titles, as well as the odd AAA title. 14. Businesses and consumers are increasingly reliant on cloud based storage solutions instead of in-house, on-premise local storage hardware. Your files are stored in the cloud, which is a simplified view of what is essentially someone else's infrastructure (data center, server, hard drive, connectivity etc). Ever since Amazon popularised storage online with S3 (Simple Storage Service), 13 years ago, Google data shows that interest for "Cloud Storage" alone has increased by 40x over the past decade. So much so that people less frequently refer to it as "online storage". Given the multitude of cloud storage providers out there, one has to wisely choose a provider who will offer the maximum amount of low-cost storage and bandwidth, while still keeping your data safe. This list represents our top picks for cloud storage: most offer a free tier allowing you to see if they're right for you before handing over any hard-earned cash. Business users will need to consider carefully what their needs are as terms and conditions as well as quality of service is likely to differ significantly from their consumer alterego. The web interface supports sharing files by email, Facebook and Twitter. Cautious or click-happy users will be pleased to hear that files deleted from your computer are not automatically deleted from the server, so there's less danger of removing something important by accident. Up to 30 previous versions of all files backed to your account are retained. Another thing to note is that IT admins have access to IDrive Thin Client application, which allows them to backup/restore, manage settings, and more for all their connected computers via a centralized dashboard. For photos, you have a neat facial recognition feature that helps you to automatically organize them as well as syncing them across all your lined devices. IDrive also offers IDrive Express which sends you a physical hard disk drive if you lose all your data, allowing for the swift restoration of all your backed up files. That applies to the newly introduced disk image backup feature. A business version exists and offers priority support, single sign-on as well as unlimited users and server backup. To kick things off, you're given a fairly generous 10GB to play with, and there's a bandwidth allowance of 50GB of downlink traffic per month. While we're primarily interested in the free version of pCloud, note that you can upgrade to 500GB of space for a monthly plan of $4.99 (£3.70), or 2TB for $9.99 (£7.50) a month – both of which are great deals for storage. You also have annual and lifetime plans, which are a cheaper option in the long run. The initial 10GB free offering can also be expanded up to 20GB via an additional 4GB for completion of offers, as well as referrals that add 1GB each. It’s also worth noting that pCloud offers well-designed desktop and mobile apps that supplement the website for seamless integration into a user’s workflow. With no limit on file sizes, and simple sharing options, pCloud is a great way to send large files to friends and colleagues – it's even possible to share with people who aren't using the service themselves. Despite its popularity, Dropbox actually has one of the least generous free packages for new users (just 2GB), but there are various ways to boost this space without paying, including inviting friends to join (you get 500MB per referral up to 16GB), completing the Getting Started guide (250MB) and contributing to the Dropbox forum (which elicits 1GB per 'Mighty Answer' provided). DropBox really comes into its own when you start delving into the service’s extra features. There's a great collaborative working tool called Dropbox Paper that acts as a group workspace, and – if you install the desktop app – you can back up photos automatically. The File Requests feature also allows you to request another user to upload a file to your Dropbox account. There are desktop apps for Windows, Mac and Linux, and mobile apps including Android, iOS and even Kindle. This gives Dropbox broad appeal, as does the support for third-party apps and services. The web version of Dropbox lets you edit files without needing to download them, and really the only thing that counts against the cloud storage service is that most alternatives offer more space to free users. Dropboxhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/iCxnW7a7ucGSaf78YttsMQ.jpg MediaFire Free storage allowance: 10GB (expandable) MediaFire has been around for over a decade, and those years of experience really show. You're given 10GB of free space initially, but you can boost this by an extra 40GB through activities like referring friends and following MediaFire's social media accounts. Few people would disagree that 50GB of free cloud storage is impressive. Free accounts carry ads, but this is a small sacrifice to make. There's support for large files up to 4GB, and the sharing options are very impressive, even allowing sharing with non-users. The web-based interface is excellent too, and MediaFire offers mobile apps for convenient uploading and downloading on iOS and Android. These make it easy to access files you're storing in the cloud, and include convenient features such as automatic photo syncing. The platform allows users to access, synchronize and share data using a cloud-based server. The company places a strong emphasis on data security and privacy. They offer a cloud storage, online backup and sharing service which they claim uses a ‘zero knowledge’ privacy environment. This means the client is the only one who can view all stored data. Not even SpiderOak themselves have access to your data. SpiderOak’s main focus is on privacy and security. As a result, the tool itself has a very basic design. This makes the admin console and all central device management very straightforward to use. They also include a handy drag and drop feature for organising files. From the centralized device management dashboard, users can access settings for all applications such as backup selection and sharing. The dashboard also allows users to manage their accounts, set group permissions and gain insight into usage. Prospective business clients will need to contact SpiderOak’s Sales Team directly to obtain a quote. 500 users minimum is required. Online commentators have observed that SpiderOak lacks many of the collaboration tools available from other cloud storage providers. The provider emphasizes enhanced security and data encryption for businesses and personal users alike. If you are concerned with ensuring that your stored data is kept safe online then Tresorit is the service for you. This provider allows you to keep control of your files through ‘zero-knowledge encryption’ meaning that only you and the chosen few you decide to share with can ever see your data. Your Tresorit account can also be secured by two-factor authentication login. Tresorit’s ‘Small Business’ Packages starts at $25 (£19.60) per month (or $20 monthly for the annual plan) for teams with 2-9 users. Extras included in this are personalized staff training, admin API and on-premises deployment. In order to sign up for this plan, users need to contact Tresorit directly. All tiers come with a 14-day free trial. The extra security offered by Tresorit makes it relatively expensive compared to other cloud backup solutions. Not only will you get fantastic cooling performance from the NH-D15, but it’s nearly silent too. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/aYjFb8NKEjnichDVGUdBeL.jpg Image Credit: Cooler Master There are some products out there that never really age out of relevance, and the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is still one of the best CPU coolers on the market. Even though it only features four heat pipes and an aluminum fin structure, this legendary CPU cooler has proven again and again to be just as efficient as any liquid cooling system. This air cooler is designed to make heat dissipation a breeze – literally – whether you’re playing Metro Exodus at max settings or browsing Twitter. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/KZPxWaNn26LyyNMNQ9Z2fL.jpg Image Credit: Noctua Noctua is an Austrian manufacturer that does one thing, and one thing only: make CPU coolers and fans. What this means is that while the Noctua NH-L9 is tiny, it is still capable of insane cooling with no compromises. This is a fantastic cooler for anyone with a smaller build, or even if you’re using a ton of large components, and you’re not comfortable with liquid cooling. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/mD9gUpAijCcPcuHwUMREyN.jpg Image Credit: Corsair Corsair has enjoyed a position at the top of the liquid cooling game for a while now, and the H100i Pro continues the trend. Not only is this thing obviously strapped in RGB lighting, but it also features impressive cooling performance, thanks to Corsair’s unique and powerful fans, which you can control through the iCue software. This all results in a CPU cooler that not only performs well, but that is also completely customizable. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/m2AjZnvchhqYKXYKC9GyR.jpg Image Credit: Deepcool If you’re looking for a powerful liquid cooler that’ll help contribute to your epic RGB setup, the Deepcool Gamerstorm Castle 240 RGB is the best CPU cooler for you. Beyond the ridiculous name, it’s a reliable AIO cooler that can push your overclocks higher and higher with addressable RGB that’s compatible with a wide range of controllers – so you can effortlessly sync your lighting. Not only does it pack a gigantic radiator, but its high fan speeds ensure that cooling performance is top-notch all the time. And, because it’s 2019, it features addressable RGB and an infinite mirror design that looks amazing in any case. Then, to top it all off, the NZXT Kraken X72 is backed by a 6 year warranty. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5eEJbvJA6iBuXcivgL5J25.jpg Image Credit: Cooler Master There isn’t a single component that can’t be improved through RGB, and Cooler Master is well aware – jumping on the RGB bandwagon with the MasterLIquid ML 120R RGB. What’s more, it integrates some of the first addressable LEDs seen on a liquid cooler. This all-in-one liquid cooling solution isn’t just about aesthetics – it features an oxidation free pump and an efficient radiator. This means that not only will it last longer – but it’ll keep your CPU cooler, and all without giving up too much case real estate. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/iUhCteZo2HERqV2z9zo7Cg.jpg Image Credit: Arctic For less than 70 big ones in both US dollars and British sterling, the Arctic Liquid Freezer 120 is a deal you can’t pass up if you’re on the prowl for a liquid cooler that won’t break the bank. While it lacks the bells and whistles of pricier, more extravagant liquid coolers, like the NZXT Kraken, the Arctic Liquid cooler is enough to get you by, not to mention it’s still a massive step up from the classic fan and heatsink pairing. So, while you can’t expect RGB lighting or software – or even hardware-based fan control, the 120mm variant of the Arctic Liquid Freezer will keep your system refrigerated at a (mostly) quiet volume. That’s where something like the Corsair Hydro H5 SF comes into play. Even on the smallest PC cases, you should able to use this CPU cooler to keep your CPU chilled, even if you have some beastly overclocks going on. And, because it’s a closed loop, you don’t even need to worry about maintenance. Set it up, and let it do its thing – you won’t be disappointed. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/mSyf2U4yDdGw2XKLtjtD2Y.jpg Image Credit: NoFan Unless you’re already neck deep in the rabbit hole that is silent PC assembly, you’ve probably never heard of NoFan, a South Korean component company that specializes in helping enthusiasts reach that 0dBA silent sweet spot. 16. Businesses are only as good as the data they have at their disposal. Data has created new business models, new ways of working, and new competitive advantages. It’s enabled new agile upstarts to shake up established industries, and it’s seeing customers take the products and services that rely on this critical data for granted. They’re expecting consistent quality of service at all times, and reputations are being built and destroyed in equal measure thanks to data and the way companies decide to manage it. Meanwhile, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has famously given businesses more data headaches. Given its widespread promotion, there are few companies out there who are still unaware of the legislation. UK government statistics collected in the run up to the implementation of GDPR in February 2018, for instance, claimed 80% of businesses with more than 250 employees were aware of GDPR, with it falling to 39%-66% for small and medium-sized organisations. However, assumptions do still linger that the potentially huge fines and reputational damage that could come from being found in breach of the legislation will never happen to them. Assumptions cannot afford to be checked at the Information Commissioners Office (ICO). As operations of all kinds become increasingly data-driven, any incidents affecting quality-of-service can create major disruption with incalculable fallout. Education is key in keeping data safePreparing for the unexpected: why your business needs a disaster recovery planA new era in data awarenessCareful handlingHow do you manage these data challenges effectively and intelligently? It starts with knowing where and how to store your data, and careful planning with how your business can recover if data suddenly becomes unavailable. Will your business host its data locally, in the cloud, or a combination of the two? Either way, it needs careful consideration. Does your business feel confident that it will know what do if things suddenly don’t go as expected? These questions need to have easy answers now. IDC found that as many as 80% of organisations without a disaster recovery (DR) plan in place will fail entirely in the face of a major incident. It’s become far too risky to let these things only become clear once operations have become confused or an incident has occurred. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/wR5MEBxYEnAd3CGGBhtzHn.jpg Image Credit: Shutterstock Disaster planningIt doesn’t matter how big or small your business is, it will never be completely immune from the threat of cyberattacks, the impact of human error, or natural disasters. Whatever the case, the best way to survive is to prepare. For CIOs, this kind of disaster planning can feel like a real head-scratcher, but businesses can start by first looking at where DR fits within the needs of their wider strategy. That comes from carrying out an impact assessment – identifying what apps and processes are vital to operations and what is the maximum amount of downtime they can handle before operations fail. Once this is calculated, it becomes possible to work out the ideal recovery targets for each of these, and then begin to build out the measures needed to realise them. The right cloud partnerWith all of this in place, choosing a cloud partner is much more straightforward, as it suddenly becomes clearer what the demands on the business are and what is needed. Factors such as the cloud provider’s experience, the nature of the service level agreement, the shared responsibility model and who is responsible for businesses data, turnaround times on service requests, as well as even the legal and regulatory implications around where data will be eventually stored and handled should be considered. With so much of the business built on this decision, it isn’t something to be taken lightly. It’s a well-worn phrase, but data is the new oil for businesses. Protecting, storing and managing it in the right way is vital to everything else that organisations do. Businesses face an enormous amount of consumer pressure, but Intelligent Data Management needs to be an ongoing priority, not just an annual panic. Guaranteeing data will be secure and consistently available is a foundational element in building trust. Having a plan in place that is tested, realistic and actionable could be the organisation’s saving grace when, not if, an incident looms. This year's festival event breaks down into Champion Day on Tuesday, with the Champion Hurdle as the main event; Ladies Day on Wednesday with £10,000 up for grabs for best dressed and the Queen Mother Champion Chase race; the World Hurdle and Chases races on Thursday; before the Gold Cup Steeple Chase finale on Friday. 19. If you're looking for the best AirPods price, you've come to the right place, because we have the best Apple AirPods deals listed below. It's actually pretty rare to find Apple's wireless earbuds on sale, simply because it's one of the most in-demand items. In fact, it was one of the most in-demand items last year and sold out on a regular basis. Also, every time there's a decent AirPods deal, they get snapped up quickly, which isn't great news for those of you looking for a big discount. The AirPods' price is undeniably high, but we're in familiar territory here given Apple's reputation for premium items with the cost to match. If you've taken advantage of a cheap iPhone XS deal or iPhone 8 deal lately, the Apple AirPods rank amongst the best earphones to pair with your new phone. Although, as they're bluetooth, you can pair them with plenty of other mobile phones too and even laptops. How much are AirPods? The official AirPods' price is $159 in the US and £159 in the UK. So you shouldn't pay any more. Although, we have seen some stores cheekily push the price up when stock thins out. Stock is generally much more readily available everywhere nowadays though. Expect the usual outlets to charge closer to the RRP and, better yet, dip below it. Fingers crossed we don't have to wait long for some proper Apple AirPod sales though! As an alternative, there are lots of wireless earphone and headphone deals in our Beats headphone deals page. Should I wait for a cheaper AirPods deal? You might be waiting a while to be honest. Last year around Black Friday, Walmart knocked off, wait for it, about $7 and it was one of the most popular deals we highlighted in our extensive roundups of the hottest offers. We saw similar tiny discounts in the UK too. So for the foreseeable future it looks like any discount on the Apple AirPods price isn't going to bring them into 'cheap' territory. And when they keep selling out at full-price you can't see Apple throwing cash away. What about Apple AirPods 2?Apple is dragging it's feet announcing the second generation of the AirPods, but from what we've heard they could include a whole bunch of extra features. So we'd actually expect them to be even more expensive when they launch, which sadly doesn't necessarily mean the prices of the original ones will drop (like we'd expect with new iPad deals) if the two are drastically different improved products. Naturally, we'll keep this page updated as soon as the new versions are available to pre-order. Until then you can find the latest Apple AirPods deals above or all the rumours and news about the upcoming Apple AirPods 2 updates in our guide. If you really want to save money though, head on over to our roundup of the best cheap wireless headphone deals and sales. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/21mXZe7ew4Q
  20. Today is 14 March, also known as Pi Day (due to being written as 3/14 in the United States). Rather than contenting herself with a slice of fruit in pastry, Google employee Emma Haruka Iwao has used the company's cloud computing technology to set a new record for calculating the value of pi. Calculating it is a common task for supercomputers, and developer advocate Iwao used Google Cloud to calculate it to 31,415,926,535,897 digits. Best cloud storage of 2019: free, paid and business optionsOur ultimate guide to cloud storage for photosHow to choose the best cloud computing service for youTo calculate the number, Iwao used an application called y-cruncher on 25 Google Cloud virtual machines. The calculation required 140TB of data, and took about 121 days to complete. A recipe for successAs a developer advocate, Iwao works with developers to help them get more from Google's cloud computing services – but she says the pi calculation was particularly important to her. “Pi seems simple – it starts with 3.14," she says. 21. Even though it came out in 2013, the Fitbit Flex is still a popular fitness tracker that many people are wearing to track their daily step count and exercise regime. If you've owned yours for quite a while, it's likely you're finding the design a little tiresome now so you may want to add a new strap or accessory to change its look. That's why we've put together this guide with Fitbit Flex bands, straps and accessories that you can look through below. These are products that we haven't had in our test labs, but based on our experts' opinion and knowledge of the most reputable brands around, we think these are worth looking at. Our selections, ranked from cheapest to most expensive, take into account online reviews, brand reputation, product capability or unique features to help you pick through the maze of choices available to you. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/nDxLk2GVS55ztQD5Q3jCGD.jpg Image Credit: HopCentury Like the Hotodeal wristband, this strap from HopCentury also comes in a wide range of colors and looks, but the strap design is more conventional. It’s affordable, fits a large range of wrist sizes and adds some color to your Fitbit Flex. It’s more rigid than Fitbit’s official bands and a bit chunky, but if you want a cheap, eye-catching strap, this is it. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/G6Sopar3v2pCXCVctRD8Ba.jpg Image Credit: The Step Counter The Fitbit Flex is designed to be worn on your wrist, but there are times when that’s not ideal. If you have a pushchair for example, your arms won’t be moving while walking, which can lead to less accurate tracking. Strapping the Flex to your ankle can solve that, and that’s exactly what this band lets you do. Having it on your ankle also allows for a more accurate estimate of your movement while cycling, and you can save that wrist space for a normal watch. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Q2jX8jsQUm9oSGEjwg2cQj.jpg Image Credit: Holaca Most Fitbit Flex bands are as sporty as the tracker itself, but not this Holaca Metal band. As the name suggests, it’s metal and it has a stylish design. There are a range of color combinations to choose from, with metal available in different shades, and the buckle ensures your Fitbit Flex will stay firmly on your wrist. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/uEuFVH7GsnftRzqGcHAtJD.jpg Image Credit: BSI This BSI metal necklace changes your Fitbit Flex into a real piece of jewelry, almost completely covering the tracker itself with a metal pendant, complete with a metal chain so you can wear it around your neck. There are small gaps in the pendant, allowing you to see the display on the Flex and keep track of your progress, but they’re discreet, and passers-by are unlikely to even realize you’re wearing a fitness tracker. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/TzMbkozNBQaJt8BRLnTPPL.jpg Image Credit: Fitbit This one is pretty simple. If you've lost your charging cable, you'll be able to recharge your Fitbit Flex with this, and it's directly available from Fitbit. It isn't the cheapest replacement, but it'll also prove useful if you want a cable you can keep in your bag so you'll never be without a back up to recharge your tracker when you're away from home. 22. In case you haven’t already heard, or you’ve buried your head in the sand, the tax system is undergoing a major shakeup. From April 2019, most VAT-registered businesses with a taxable turnover of £85,000 will need to keep digital records using approved software and file their tax returns online. Billed as a more simple and effective way to manage tax payments, it’s nevertheless giving some businesses cause for concern. To help separate fact from fiction, Tony Mills, tax expert and Director of Online Tax Rebates, dispels some of the most common myths about the Making Tax Digital (MTD) programme… Coming to terms with Making Tax DigitalTechnological disruption: let’s not forget empathyGovernments make slow progress with digital transformation initiatives1. You don’t need to worry if you already file your tax returns onlineIf your company already uses one of the more popular branded software accounting packages, such as Xero, you shouldn’t have to make any drastic changes come April. However, this does not apply to all businesses who file their tax returns online. So, in good time for the April deadline, check if your current software package is compliant with the new rules. You should also bear in mind that if you use the HMRC Gateway portal to file tax returns, you will need to make adjustments. From April, the web portal will close for VAT return submissions for businesses with a turnover of £85,000 or more. The onus is on your business to research and find suitable software, as HMRC itself will not provide this service. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ikVtMXoqdxM4TkuPeHMoz5.jpg Image Credit: Unsplash 2. If your turnover is under £85,000, you don’t need to actIf your business’ turnover exceeds the £85,000 threshold, you have no choice but to comply with Making Tax Digital by April. However, don’t sigh in relief just yet. If your business falls under this threshold, you will have an extended period (up to April 2020) to make the necessary arrangements. Rather than delay the inevitable, it may pay off to switch to digital record keeping now, giving you peace of mind. Even if your company falls below the £85,000 minimum requirement, you still need to monitor your monthly turnover as, should your business tip over the £85,000 mark, you will have to comply (that’s even if it drops under again subsequently). 3. You can leave it till nearer the deadlineIt’s a common misconception that you don’t have to give much thought to the Making Tax Digital switchover before April, or even the following deadline in 2020. Time really is of the essence here. Having enough time to familiarise yourself and your employees with new processes and software is important. It’ll also give you an opportunity to smooth out any issues before any errors could cost your business in fines or disciplinary action. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/K9mKDu89sMaZzwcxNQnGRH.jpg Image Credit: Pexels 4. It’s your accountant’s responsibility to upgradeWhile it’s true your accountant (if they are registered as your tax agent) will be able to use their own MTD-compliant software to file your VAT return, you will still need to create a digital link from your data to theirs. If you undertake your own bookkeeping, you may need to invest in new software. Remember, MTD isn’t just about giving your tax return a digital makeover, it’s about keeping all your records digitally, so you will have to research and ensure this change is being implemented yourself and not just rely on your accountant. 5. It’s unlikely there will be financial penalties for non-complianceWe all know how difficult it can be to adapt, and while HMRC has confirmed there will be a grace period for record-keeping failures until March 2020, businesses still need to recognise the potential repercussions of failing to comply. There will be a points-based system of late filing penalties which focuses on penalties for those who consistently file late as opposed to compliant taxpayers who occasionally miss a deadline. These fines are likely to correspond with HMRC’s pre-existing record-keeping penalties, which are typically between £500 for the first offence and up to a maximum of £3,000 for repeat offenders. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/MwyYEmev294caHw4tsoy5k.jpg Image Credit: Pixabay 6. Digital accounting is technology for technology’s sakeYou can be forgiven for thinking the move to digital accounting is a change for no good reason. After all, traditional bookkeeping methods, have served SMEs well so far. However, digital accounting is one change that does have tangible benefits. For instance, adopting a cloud-based accounts system can offer greater transparency and can optimise business processes. You can scan receipts in, log on to the system remotely, as well as receive real-time data so you no longer have to wait until the end of the year to find out how much tax you have to pay. Digital accounting is a way of future-proofing your business, so it’s important your company embraces the change to ensure it remains competitive in an increasingly digitalised world, even if you turnover less than £85,000 a year. 23. Researches at MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and Harvard have found a novel solution to the problem of building a robot that's strong enough to lift an object several times its own weight, but gentle enough not to crush something fragile. The result is a robot 'hand' with a folding structure that collapses around an object to hold it securely (like a Venus flytrap trapping an insect). This flexible design and gentle grip let it grasp a wide range of objects without damaging them, and it's strong enough to keep a firm hold on objects 100 times its own weight. The best robot toys of 2019This month's best robot vacuum cleaner dealsHow Anki builds robots with personalityMany multi-purpose grippers use fingers made from a flexible material like rubber. These can cope with objects of different sizes and shapes, but are unable to hold onto bulky or heavy objects. Other 'hands' use ball-shaped grippers, which deform to hold onto objects, but only work well from certain angles. The new gripper is totally different, with an interior skeleton inspired by by an origami magic ball, a soft rubber or fabric skin, and a connector. A vacuum causes the structure to collapse around the object, holding it securely without crushing it. Get a grip“One of my moonshots is to create a robot that can automatically pack groceries for you,” said MIT professor Daniela Rus, director of MIT CSAIL, and one of the senior authors of a new paper about the project. “Previous approaches to the packing problem could only handle very limited classes of objects – objects that are very light or objects that conform to shapes such as boxes and cylinders, but with the Magic Ball gripper system we’ve shown that we can do pick-and-place tasks for a large variety of items ranging from wine bottles to broccoli, grapes and eggs. In other words, objects that are heavy and objects that are light. Objects that are delicate, or sturdy, or that have regular or free form shapes.” The research team hope that the design could be used for production lines in factories, where it would eliminate the need to invest in highly specialized machines for particular tasks, which become obsolete when designs and production techniques change. Thanks to a new update for Microsoft's old 'Connect on Windows' application, it's now possible for PC gamers to wirelessly cast their entire game library (yes, that includes Steam) to an Xbox One console connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The app, now titled Wireless Display, previously only allowed users to cast content from their PCs and Android devices to Microsoft's Surface Hub and other Windows computers. That functionality has now been expanded, giving PC gamers the ability to project their games to their living room television via an Xbox One console. 40 best PC games 2019The best Steam games 2019The best Steam alternatives for PC gamersAs reported by Engadget, the Wireless Display app offers numerous latency settings, including one specifically for gaming which will hopefully minimize lag while game casting. To start casting PC games (or anything else on your computer for that matter) to your Xbox One, you must first download the Wireless Display app from the Microsoft Store and install it on both your Windows 10 machine and console. Full Xbox One controller support is available while game casting, however, mouse and keyboard support is not supported, at least for the time being. Hopefully, that functionality will arrive at a later date. Check out our in depth Xbox One X reviewhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/kRlGjPFAct4

Based on the highly regarded novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer, Annihilation follows a group of women who set off on an expedition into an environmental disaster zone where the laws of nature don't apply. Natalie Portman leads the pack as a biologist searching for her missing husband, and she's joined by Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez and more. Though the film has only just been released in theatres in the US, Australia is lucky enough to be one of the countries getting the film on Netflix right away. Equally brainy and terrifying, Annihilation has all the makings of a modern science fiction classic. IMDB Rating: 7.8, Rotten Tomatoes: 87% Minority Reporthttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/c8aVuQvdhpG6dDinLmzC9h.jpg Credit: 20th Century Fox What if you could prevent murders before they've occurred? More importantly, what would you do if you were due to be sentenced over a murder you haven't committed yet? That is the premise of Steven Spielberg's spectacular sci-fi film, Minority Report. Loosely based on the Philip K. Dick story of the same name, the film sees Tom Cruise play the head of a futuristic 'Precrime' Division tasked with stopping murderers from carrying out their violent actions. They can do this thanks to the psychic abilities of three siblings known as 'Precogs'. But what happens when this trio of soothsayers predicts a murder carried about by Cruise himself? Spoiler alert, he runs! A visually stunning film that's filled with ingenious and forward-thinking technological ideas that will likely become a reality in years to come, Minority Report is intense and action-packed. IMDB Rating: 7.7, Rotten Tomatoes: 90% Interstellarhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qqvurkYqCDUAkppvHHQoeh.jpg Credit: Warner Bros. One of Christopher Nolan's most ambitious films, Interstellar imagines a future where Earth is on its way out, and humanity must venture out beyond our galaxy to find a suitable new planet to call home. Among these astronauts are Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), who must leave his children behind, despite the journey possibly lasting several decades, and Brand (Anne Hathaway), who is on a mission to track down her partner in the far reaches of space. Simultaneously thought-provoking and mind-bending, Interstellar is a true science fiction spectacle – one that rewards multiple viewings. IMDB Rating: 8.6, Rotten Tomatoes: 71% We all love a good scare (so long as we're safe and sound at the end of it), so with that in mind, we've taken the liberty of shining a spotlight on some of the best horror movies currently streaming on Netflix Australia. These freaky flicks are guaranteed to send shivers down your spine! Dawn of the Deadhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/C4nPXp6pq4zJtfPwAEcZ2b.jpg Image credit: Universal George A. Romero's 1978 original may be king, but Zack Snyder's fast-paced Dawn of the Dead remake is still a terrific zombie film in its own right! Thanks to an excellent script by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), Snyder's directorial debut is still one of the best in his entire filmography, with fleshed out (and fleshy) characters to root for as all hell breaks loose. Holed up in a suburban shopping mall, a group of people from various walks of life come together to fight for survival during an all-out zombie uprising. Scary and action-packed, the 2004 version of Dawn of the Dead is one of the best horror remakes around. And, with the recent announcement that Snyder will return to the zombie sub-genre once more (for the Netflix's Army of the Dead), now's the perfect time to revisit this positively ghoulish flick. IMDB Rating: 7.3, Rotten Tomatoes: 75% Velvet Buzzsawhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5UvPWoy25vvyHmLMikGje7.jpg Credit: Netflix Writer-Director Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) delivered a film that's a whole lot crazier than we were expecting with Velvet Buzzsaw. The supernatural/satirical horror film is set in the art world, where a series of paintings by an unknown deceased artist begin to take revenge on those who worship money. The film stars Nightcrawler alums Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo, along with John Malkovich, Daveed Diggs, Natalia Dyer, Tom Sturridge, Billy Magnussen and Zawe Ashton. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but if you like your films left of centre, you just might appreciate Velvet Buzzsaw. IMDB Rating: 5.8, Rotten Tomatoes: 66% Apostlehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/4mD8YZwDqYtZgMaYKyopw3.jpg Credit: Netflix In the grim tradition of The Wicker Man and The Witch comes Apostle, a gory new folk horror tale from Gareth Evans, director of The Raid films. Set in 1905, Apostle sees Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) infiltrate an island-based cult which is holding his sister Jennifer (Elen Rhys) for ransom. Led by Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen), the cult is entering a particularly dark time — its crops and livestock are rotting from within, as if the people are being punished by their deity. With the community in dire straits, Malcolm and his followers have become murderous monsters, resorting to horrific, medieval practices in a vain attempt to restore life to their home. In other words, a terrible time to be discovered as an intruder! With Apostle, Evans has not lost his knack for bodily destruction, with several scenes of torture and violence that may be too much for some viewers. Those with strong stomachs, however, will be rewarded with a nail-biting horror story with incredibly production design and cinematography that's willing to go to some truly dark places. It's nerve-jangling score is also worth keeping an ear out for. IMDB Rating: 6.6, Rotten Tomatoes: 77% Ithttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DZjrzJJM8XamcatUYLWWXc.jpg Credit: Warner Bros. Get ready, fright fans — the highest-grossing horror movie of all time has made its way onto Netflix and is bound to make you terrified of clowns all over again. Based on Stephen King's classic novel of the same name, It follows a group of tightly-knit adolescent misfits known as The Losers Club as they investigate an evil force that's been stealing and murdering children in their small town for decades. With its late '80s setting and talented cast of young performers, It is bound to appeal to fans of Netflix's brilliant series Stranger Things (and not just because Finn Wolfhard stars in both). As far as Stephen King adaptations go, it's one of the very best, managing to strike the right balance between horror and heart. Simply put, It is the kind of crowd-pleasing scare film we'd like to see more of. We recommend watching It before the upcoming sequel, which takes place 27 years later and sees the kids all grown up and terrorised by Pennywise the Dancing Clown all over again. IMDB Rating: 7.4, Rotten Tomatoes: 85% Jawshttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qBuGbtM7CCzqe6epiduspN.jpg Credit: Universal The film that defined the term 'blockbuster', Steven Spielberg's classic fright film Jaws has swam its way onto the the service and is hungry for more viewers to chomp on. When an aggressive great white shark starts eating swimmers in the lead up to Fourth of July weekend, the mayor of a popular tourist destination sets a bounty for the shark's head. The town's sheriff (Roy Scheider), an oceanographer (Richard Dreyfuss) and a shark hunter with a grudge (Robert Shaw) set out on the seas to take it down for good. They're gonna need a bigger boat... IMDB Rating: 8.0, Rotten Tomatoes: 97% It Followshttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/YRDXUbcapPCnBUKmKvAFE3.jpg Credit: Rialto Distribution Considered a modern horror classic by many, It Follows sees a young girl (Maika Monroe) terrorised by a sexually-transmitted demon. This terrifying apparition looks different every time and will chase you relentlessly until you either pass it on by sleeping with someone else, or until it catches up to you and finishes you off for good. To make matters worse, if the person you pass it on to dies, it will turn its attention back to you again. Did we mention that it can only be seen by the people that have been 'infected', so your friends won't be able to help as much as they'd like to? Yeah, it kinda sucks. Stylish, atmospheric and with a terrific John Carpenter-inspired synth score, It Follows in an effective horror movie which may suffer a little from a few odd decisions by its characters, but is still well worth watching. IMDB Rating: 6.9, Rotten Tomatoes: 97% The Babysitterhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/YtDUAMaXjzvCB3z7bAxJY4.jpg Credit: Netflix One for the horror comedy fans, the Netflix Original film The Babysitter, from director McG (Charlie's Angels), is an energetic and fun flick with some killer one-liners and a star-making performance from Aussie actress Samara Weaving (yes, she's related to Hugo), whom horror fans may remember from her role in the first season of Ash vs Evil Dead. The plot is simple: kid develops a crush on his incredibly cool babysitter, only to find out that she's sadistic, devil-worshipping killer with a group of equally psychotic friends, all of whom are planning to kill him. Though he's a total wimp, he must now fight back in order to survive. Gory and funny in equal measure, The Babysitter is a hell of a time. IMDB Rating: 6.4, Rotten Tomatoes: 71% Documentaries offer unprecedented insight into the lives of real people and the extraordinary events that surround them. Fiction is great, but fact truly has the power to move and inspire people like nothing else. With that said, here are some of the best documentaries currently available to stream on Netflix Australia. Get Me Roger Stonehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ENj8XnhP5g9sDWrmMhQnHa.jpg Credit: Netflix The Trump presidency has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, and has been a source of entertainment for late-night shows and comedians across the US. There are books aplenty already published on the Trump White House, yet the world is yet to meet the President-maker, “the trickster”, behind the scenes. Get Me Roger Stone is about the man who puts a Republican in the White House, using every (underhanded) technique he possibly can to get his man the top job. And he does so unashamedly. The documentary follows this self-acclaimed “agent provocateur” – reminiscent of a dapper character right out of a James Bond novel or movie – as he reveals everything he’s done during his long career, from Nixon to Trump. The documentary not only puts the subject, and his Nixon tattoo, centre-stage, it also reveals how the American democracy works in its current form. IMDB Rating: 7.4, Rotten Tomatoes: 87% Amanda Knoxhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/aUhWdCUXjKfZR9rgbSjorA.jpg Credit: Netflix Following the enormous success of its original docu-series Making a Murderer, Netflix has once again returned to the ever-popular 'true crime' well with Amanda Knox. The Netflix Original documentary tells the harrowing story of an American exchange student who spent four years in an Italian prison after being convicted for the murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher. Forced to endure the prosecution's various character assassination tactics, including public slut-shaming, Knox maintains her innocence at all times, with her appeals eventually reaching Italy's Supreme Court. Amanda Knox is an effective and truly eye-opening documentary that is not to be missed. IMDB Rating: 7.0, Rotten Tomatoes: 85% We love a good thriller, which is why we've narrowed down some of the best ones that are now available to watch on Netflix Australia. These films will have you on the edge of your seat in suspense, so sit back, try to relax, and enjoy. Zodiachttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/rAy8qT3nwr9rsxvhKKN7cW.jpg Image credit: Paramount Pictures Director David Fincher revolutionised the modern-day serial killer thriller with his masterpiece, Se7en, so when it came time to revisit the genre with Zodiac, the visionary director opted to tear it back down again (in a good way, that is). Eschewing the grim flashiness of the aforementioned film, Zodiac follows the true (and still unsolved) Zodiac murder spree that occurred across the US during the 1960s-70s. Fincher approaches the morbid material with the kind of journalistic attention to detail and intense investigation that would become incredibly popular several years later (just imagine how celebrated Zodiac would be if it were released now, in the time of total true crime obsession). Jake Gyllenhaal plays Robert Graysmith, the real-life newspaper cartoonist that would eventually devote decades of his life in the pursuit of the Zodiac killer's true identity. The rest of the cast ain't shabby, either – Robert Downey Jr (not playing Iron Man), Mark Ruffalo (not playing Hulk), Anthony Edwards, Brian Cox and Chloë Sevigny star in supporting roles. A gripping true story, Zodiac is a must for devoted true crime enthusiasts. It also makes for a terrific companion to Fincher's serial killed-themed Netflix Original series, Mindhunter. IMDB Rating: 7.7, Rotten Tomatoes: 90% The Villainesshttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/csFEh676tbkqMnAYuGMZUm.jpg Credit: Madman Entertainment Equal parts Oldboy and La Femme Nikita, The Villainess is a female-driven Korean revenge thriller with the most incredible and original action sequences this side of The Raid — seriously, the first-person knife fights and shootouts in this put Hollywood action movies to shame. Sook-hee (Ok-bin Kim) is apprehended after carrying out a killing spree that leaves dozens of gangsters dead. She's given a choice: train to become a ruthless assassin and receive freedom after ten years, or spend the rest of her life in jail. Obviously, she chooses the former, and before long it becomes clear to her that her rampage was spurned on under false pretences. Now, it's time to make everyone pay for what they did to her. IMDB Rating: 6.7, Rotten Tomatoes: 83% Gerald's Gamehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/TNHzKgX6xaf6ZRXkpPbNAU.jpg Credit: Netflix 2017 has been a great year for Stephen King adaptations (ahem, The Dark Tower aside), and the new Netflix Original film Gerald's Game joins It and 1922 in the upper echelon. In an attempt to rekindle their marriage, Gerald (Bruce Greenwood) and Jessie (Carla Gugino) retreat to a remote lake house. When a sex game goes awry, Jessie is left alone and handcuffed to the bed and must overcome her mounting paranoia and deep, personal demons. Though the film mostly takes place within the one room, Gerald's Game remains thrilling from start to finish. It also features one of the best performances of Gugino's career. IMDB Rating: 6.8, Rotten Tomatoes: 90% Drivehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/fe9f1a95445454eabfa216c709ec05fa.jpg Credit: Pinnacle Films Drive is the film that made it cool to love Ryan Gosling. Based on the novel of the same name by James Sallis, this pulpy thriller is one of the most stylish films of the last decade, having almost single-handedly revived the neon '80s synth-pop scene. Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson, Only God Forgives), Drive sees Gosling play a nameless stunt driver who works as a shady wheelman by night. When a job goes horribly wrong, this 'driver' must dispense violent justice to make things right for those he cares for. The film's immense influence can be felt across all forms of media – the video game Hotline Miami, in particular, owes a large debt of gratitude to Drive. A loving ode to the early tough-guy crime movies of Michael Mann, Drive is essential viewing. IMDB Rating: 7.8, Rotten Tomatoes: 93% We're serious cinephiles here at at TechRadar. It's not all about Star Wars around here – we enjoy a good tear-jerker, too. There are many sensitive drama films streaming on Netflix Australia right, and these are some of the best ones. So grab a hanky and get ready for a heavy night in. Romahttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UJHmNw2FDxgf5SKdXTXaMH.jpg Credit: Netflix An astonishing ode to motherhood in all forms, Roma is the most personal film to date from visionary director Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men, Gravity). On paper, Roma is not the easiest sell – a subtitled black and white film about a live-in housekeeper spoken almost entirely in Spanish and the indigenous Mixtec language, Cuarón's latest is nonetheless riveting from a cinematic standpoint. More a series of vignettes than a traditional three-act story, Roma examines the life of a Mexico City family in the early 1970s during a time of great social upheaval. Described by Cuarón as 90% autobiographical, the film provides some insight into the famous director's early life, although the story is witnessed primarily through the eyes of his caretaker, Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), who would become a loved member of the family. One of the most gorgeously photographed films of the year, Roma deserves to be seen on the largest screen possible. Shot entirely in 65mm, Roma would make for an ideal theatrical experience. However, if that isn't an option, you won't be disappointed by the Roma's breathtaking 4K Ultra HD presentation on Netflix – just make sure you keep tissues on hand, because it's very likely you'll shed a few tears during the film. IMDB Rating: 8.5, Rotten Tomatoes: 96% American Graffitihttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/iQ6YTa9XYwsvMinhXpbPJY.jpg Credit: Universal George Lucas took the world by storm with his phenomenal blockbuster Star Wars in 1977, but it wasn't the first masterpiece the filmmaker had helmed – American Graffiti was released just four years earlier in 1973, marking the arrival of one of the most exciting voices in cinema. A nostalgic coming-of-age tale, the 1962-set American Graffiti follows a group of friends on their last night in town before heading off to college and the rest of their lives. Naturally, these kids spend the night cruising the strip in their amazing era-specific hot rods, saying their goodbyes to friends and girlfriends and getting up to some mischief before they have to grow up and face the real world. Released only 11 years after the time in which it's set, the film shows just how much American life would change in such a short time, predating not only the Kennedy assassination and the Flower Generation, but also the Vietnam War. While American Graffiti is undoubtedly a feel-good film with an incredible rock 'n' roll and doo-wop soundtrack‎, it's also a bittersweet reminder of innocence lost, with the film's ending throwing some cold water on an audience lulled into remembering 'the good old times'. Stars Ron 'Ronny' Howard, Richard Dreyfus and Harrison Ford. IMDB Rating: 7.5, Rotten Tomatoes: 96% Dunkirkhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ap9xDJScd63mxgf2CivcFB.jpg Credit: Warner Bros. A harrowing tale of grand-scale survival against all odds, Christopher Nolan's film Dunkirk re-enacts one of the most significant events in World War II — namely, the evacuation of over 300,000 Allied soldiers who were trapped in the French port town of Dunkirk with no supplies and barely any ammunition while surrounded by heavily armed German forces. Codenamed Operation Dynamo, Winston Churchill's decision to enlist every available civilian vessel capable of reaching Dunkirk resulted in the vast majority of stranded troops being rescued. Had the scenario gone another way, the Allied forces may have lost the war. Following the events by land, air and sea, Nolan offers a surprisingly intimate look at the evacuation, despite being set against an epic backdrop. One of Nolan's best films to date, Dunkirk is a must-see war film the explores human courage in the face of almost certain death. IMDB Rating: 8.0, Rotten Tomatoes: 9.2 Your Namehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/QUNMAeYWkc22ARwr6X99kE.jpg Credit: Madman Entertainment A worldwide phenomenon, Your Name is the highest-grossing anime film of all time — that's right, bigger than any Studio Ghibli film or science fiction blockbuster. That a simple story about a young girl from a rural town switching bodies with a young man from bustling Tokyo hit such a cord with audiences is a testament to the heartfelt writing that helps bring these animated characters to life. Makoto Shinkai's film is the kind that will have you laughing one moment, then crying the next. A joyful and beautiful love story told in a unique and cerebral way, Your Name is one of the true anime masterpieces, sitting alongside the likes of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Grave of the Fireflies, Spirited Away and the legendary Akira. IMDB Rating: 8.4, Rotten Tomatoes: 97% Good Timehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/AWNDHQB4cJoHfDY7zUVRBK.jpg Credit: Madman Entertainment Good Time stars Robert Pattinson in the type of performance that will make you forget all about his involvement in the Twilight saga. We're talking young De Niro good, here. When his mentally-challenged brother is snatched by the police after a bank robbery, Connie (Pattinson) sets out to do anything he can to free his brother before getting sent to the brutal Rikers Island jail complex. This sets off a night that spirals out of control extremely fast. There's pretty much no way of predicting what will happen next. Gritty and grimy, Good Time is an intense film with an incredible soundtrack and fantastic cinematography. One of the best films of 2017. IMDB Rating: 7.4, Rotten Tomatoes: 91% Beasts of No Nationhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/681d5425640ba173002a2e1c99f12611.jpg Credit: Netflix As Netflix's first original movie, Beasts of No Nation had a lot to prove. The VOD scene had traditionally been associated with low budget indies and D-grade horror films, but with Beasts of No Nation, Netflix managed to convince people that high quality (dare I say, Oscar-calibre) films could be streamed at home and shown in theatres at the same time. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective season 1), Beasts follows the loss of a child soldier's innocence as he's forced to do unspeakable things. The film hits like a sledgehammer, never shying away from the brutality and horror experienced by this young boy (played masterfully by newcomer Abraham Attah). Equally powerful is Idris Elba's portrayal as the boy's remorseless and despicable commander. Though not what you'd call a crowd-pleaser, we hope that Netflix continues to bring us brilliant films like this. IMDB Rating: 7.8, Rotten Tomatoes: 91% Blue is the Warmest Colorhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/iLadtwMTJdQiG3uDvuYsZh.jpg Credit: Universal / Sony Pictures As soulful as it is erotically-charged, it's not hard to see why Blue is the Warmest Color won the highest prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival – its portrayal of two women who fall in love and allow each other to discover their true selves is truly special. Though Emma (Léa Seydoux) is a blue-haired free spirit, Adèle (Adèle Exarchopoulos) doesn't feel comfortable in her own skin. While Adèle's friends initially shun Emma due to her sexuality, she soon realises that Emma is the only person with whom she can express herself openly and bare her soul to. Together, the pair experience the ups and downs of a mature relationship, while also exploring social acceptance and their sexuality. A beautiful masterpiece that will take you on an emotional roller-coaster throughout its lengthy 3-hour running time, Blue is the Warmest Color is a film you won't soon forget. IMDB Rating: 7.8, Rotten Tomatoes: 91% Okjahttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DTzjea7FnBPc2BQuy4dmFf.jpg Credit: Netflix Korean director Bong Joon-ho (The Host, Snowpiercer) is an eclectic filmmaker, and his latest work, Okja, is in a genre all of its own. Is it an adventure film? Is it science fiction? Is it a drama? Is it a fairy tale? Is it satire? The answer is... all of the above. With a style that's somewhere between Spielberg and Miyazaki, the film follows a young Korean girl's quest to rescue her best friend Okja, a super-pig that was created by the multi-national conglomerate Mirando Corporation for the purposes of consumption. Flipping between heartbreaking and joyful at the drop of a hat, Okja is an emotional roller coaster of a film that may well have you reconsidering your dietary choices. IMDB Rating: 7.4, Rotten Tomatoes: 85% Need a good laugh? Netflix Australia is home to some terrific comedies, with a number of hilarious movies ready to stream in an instant. Some are light-hearted, while others are pitch black. With that in mind, there's a comedy for everyone below. Game Nighthttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/pws23jGtTQM6AKDLgFj6hT.jpg Credit: Roadshow Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie (Rachel McAdams) are well known for hosting awesome weekly board game nights for their friends. On this particular evening however, Max's shady brother (Kyle Chandler) gets the group involved in his real life kidnapping, which leads them to think the whole thing is a game night mystery. Before long, the group finds itself in real danger with some murderous gangsters, and they'll need to use their board game problem solving skills to get themselves out of this hairy situation! Stylishly directed and cleverly written, Game Night is head and shoulders above most other American comedies released in recent years. IMDB Rating: 7.0, Rotten Tomatoes: 84% The 40-Year-Old Virginhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/hGvcawHg8WpE9VaDsfV5Ne.jpg Credit: Universal Unlucky in love, nice guy Andy (Steve Carrell) has yet to go all the way with a woman despite being 40 years old. While he has quietly resounded himself to the possibility that he may never lose his virginity, his rambunctious co-workers (Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen and Romany Malco) have made it their mission to get Andy laid, no matter what. And, just when you think you have the movie figured out, it reveals itself to be a surprisingly sweet story about friendship and moving into the next stage of life. Featuring more gut-busting one-liners and sexual misadventures than you can poke a... err... you get where we're going with this, Judd Apatow's The 40-Year-Old Virgin is one of the most hilarious comedies of the 21st century. IMDB Rating: 7.1, Rotten Tomatoes: 85% Coming to Americahttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/CJ74XQrpZXSXrDHsHS3mzT.jpg Credit: Universal / Sony Pictures Perhaps the most charming and endlessly entertaining comedy of Eddie Murphy's career, Coming to America takes the standard 'fish out of water' concept and weaves pure magic with it. Unhappy with the arranged marriage set up by royal parents, Prince Akeem of the wealthy (and fictitious) African nation of Zamunda sets off for America in search of love with help from his squire, Semmi (Arsenio Hall). Before long, Akeem falls for the smart and independent Lisa (Shari Headley), heir to the McDowell's fast food restaurant empire. Insistent that he win her affections with his personality and not his wealth, Akeem and Semmi pretend to be poor and acquire jobs at McDowell's. Now, the pair must contend with Lisa's over-protective father (John Amos) and her jerk boyfriend (Eriq La Salle). Full of heart and bloody hilarious, Coming to America is a comedy classic. IMDB Rating: 7.0, Rotten Tomatoes: 69% Hot Fuzzhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/211bf8650ba007861316e756bb3264e8.jpg Credit: Universal Following the success of their classic rom-zom-com, Shaun of the Dead, director Edgar Wright, star and writer Simon Pegg and co-star Nick Frost teamed up once again to bring their hilarious sensibilities to the buddy-cop movie genre with Hot Fuzz. London super-cop Nicholas Angel (Pegg) is involuntarily transferred to a village in the English countryside for making his superiors look bad by comparison. There, he teams up with dim-witted (but well-meaning) cop Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) and together, the pair uncover a murder conspiracy. If films like Point Break and Bad Boys II are in constant rotation at your place, you absolutely owe it to yourself to grab a Cornetto and watch Hot Fuzz. IMDB Rating: 7.9, Rotten Tomatoes: 91% Though they live on the other side of the law, we as people tend to be fascinated by criminals. Whether it's the outlaw lifestyles they lead, or the fact that they live those lives on the edge and do things most of us wouldn't dream of, something about their stories makes them cinematic gold. Here are some of the best crime movies now streaming on Netflix Australia. The Wolf of Wall Streethttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UN4RT6x9ZL5ZwKHAMwD6ff.jpg Credit: Roadshow The characters in the fact-based film The Wolf of Wall Street may very be completely reprehensible with little-to-no redeeming qualities, but damn if they aren't freakin' hilarious. An adults-only tour through the real-life antics of white collar criminal Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio at his most unhinged), the film revels in the excess and debauchery of Wall Street in the 1980s, where thieving yuppies spent millions of dollars on drugs, hookers and extravagant lifestyles they did not earn. While the film's three hour runtime might scare off potential viewers, Martin Scorsese's energetic direction keeps the action moving at a lightning-fast pace. The film was also stars Margot Robbie's in her breakout role, playing Belfort's ever-suffering wife, Naomi. Jonah Hill is also incredibly funny as Belfort's partner in crime, Donnie. If you love Scorsese's classic film Goodfellas, chances are you'll enjoy this just as much. IMDB Rating: 8.2, Rotten Tomatoes: 78% Snatchhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Ao22vofHy3h6UUnJ3b59kR.jpg Credit: Sony Pictures A rollicking crime caper movie from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels writer and director Guy Ritchie, Snatch takes everything great about that movie and dials it up to 11. Featuring a large cast of colourful cockney crooks, including Jason Statham, Stephen Graham, Dennis Farina, Benicio Del Toro, Vinnie Jones and Brad Pitt (particularly memorable as an unintelligible Gypsy boxer), Snatch flies thick and fast with hilarious quotable lines and energetic performances. Whether they're chasing after a diamond the size of a fist, or betting on illegal bare-knuckle brawls, you can expect these characters to end up getting into all kinds of mischief. IMDB Rating: 8.3, Rotten Tomatoes: 73% Casinohttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/KY3Q8RQnCQqqktFZHoPGLQ.jpg Credit: Universal / Sony Pictures Re-teaming with their Goodfellas director Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci once again play violent gangsters in this 1970s-set crime movie based on real-life stories from the glory days of Las Vegas. The two play former best friends who not only compete over a gambling empire, but a woman (Sharon Stone). If you can stomach the eye-popping violence on show here (this really does make Goodfellas look tame by comparison), Casino is one of the best crime movies in Scorsese's amazing filmography. IMDB Rating: 8.2, Rotten Tomatoes: 79% Buckle up for some heart-pounding entertainment with some of the most kick-ass action movies now streaming on Netflix Australia. Adrenaline junkies will get a kick out of every one of the brawny movies listed below. The Night Comes For Ushttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/z9YFzBurRXNMQL4N6Mhnw5.jpg Credit: Netflix One of the most incredibly violent action films ever made, The Night Comes For Us is a martial arts gangster epic (featuring several actors from The Raid series) where blood and body parts are offered up by the barrel. A fierce killer (Joe Taslim) betrays his Triad gang members to protect an orphaned little girl. Now, the entire Triad is out to claim his head, including his former best friend (Iko Uwais). What ensues is an unrelenting bloodbath of martial arts mayhem that never slows down for the rest of the film. We're not kidding when we say that this film might be too violent for many action junkies – heads are smashed in, throats are slashed, fingers are chopped off, bodies are blown apart and guts are ripped out with alarming frequency. If you thought The Raid was violent, you ain't seen nothin' yet! IMDB Rating: 7.1, Rotten Tomatoes: 88% John Wick: Chapter Twohttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Uk55pSWBXAAczAwcVWKPxn.jpg Credit: Universal / Sony Pictures In the first John Wick, they killed his dog, sending this boogeyman-like professional killer (played by a never-better Keanu Reeves) on a roaring rampage of revenge where no noggin remained bullet-free. In John Wick: Chapter Two, our favourite head-shooting hitman is on the defensive, as he is betrayed by an old associate and left to fight off every trigger happy assassin in New York and abroad. With even more insane stunt work and mythology building than the original film, John Wick 2 is an action-packed middle chapter which promises to end in an almighty bloodbath for the upcoming trilogy-closer, John Wick 3: Parabellum. IMDB Rating: 7.5, Rotten Tomatoes: 89% Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocolhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DQPULaUE2WQGN48JEmT5wQ.jpg Credit: Paramount Pictures Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to watch Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol on Netflix before the latest film in the saga, Mission: Impossible — Fallout, hits theatres. Why should you do that? Because the fourth entry in the M:I series, which is directed by animation legend Brad Bird (The Incredibles, The Iron Giant) is not only the best Mission to date — it's one of the best spy movies of all time, period. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team (which includes Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton) must stop a crazed madman (the late Michael Nyqvist) who believes the only way to save the world is to destroy it. Featuring brilliant spy antics, clever gadgets and the best stunts of Cruise's death-defying career (seriously, one particular sequence which takes place on the world's tallest building is positively vertigo-inducing), Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol is as close to perfection as these kinds of films get. IMDB rating: 7.4, Rotten Tomatoes: 93% The Warriorshttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/gweGZWmifr3D4ZJYfKNJqf.jpg Credit: Universal / Sony Pictures Set in a heightened version of New York in the dirty 1970s, where the streets are ruled by violent gangs in crazy costumes, The Warriors follows one particular gang (we'll give you one guess as to what they're called) that's framed for the murder of a visionary gang leader during a city-wide midnight summit. Originally meant as a peaceful event, The Warriors must now make it back to their home turf at the other side of the city with every other gang in town out for their blood. Will they survive long enough to prove their innocence? And will the real culprits get what's coming to them? A fantastic piece of '70s pulp, The Warriors is a guaranteed great time. And while its vision of colourful gangs lording over the slums of NYC seems outlandish, it's a lot closer to the reality of the time than most people realise. To learn more about this bygone era, check out the documentary Rubble Kings, which is also streaming on Netflix (read more about it on Page 3). IMDB Rating: 7.7, Rotten Tomatoes: 89% Wonder Womanhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/jpcBiMLNr7hXYzJrjK4feM.jpg Credit: Warner Bros. The DC Cinematic Universe has had a bit of a rough start in its attempts to catch up to competitor Marvel, with films like Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad unable to adequately please both fans and critics. That all changed with Wonder Woman, the first DCU movie to receive universal praise across the board. Perfectly cast as Wonder Woman a.k.a. Diana Prince, Gal Gadot breathes warmth and love into the world's most famous female superhero. Diana is swept into the wars of man when charming pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crash lands near the hidden island of Themyscira, home of the Amazons. Sensing that WWI is the doing of Ares, the God of War, Diana sets off with Steve into the world of man to end the war (and Ares) once and for all. One of the greatest superhero movies of all time, Wonder Woman is a triumph. Now let's hope we get more DC movies like this... Even more spectacular than the first film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continually aims to surprise the audience, with simultaneously keeping its action and comedy levels high. IMDB Rating: 7.8, Rotten Tomatoes: 83% Mad Max: Fury Roadhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/aXAhQutuJUeLyBpWkViUNL.jpg Credit: Roadshow The world has gone to hell following a cataclysmic event, plunging headfirst into madness and chaos. All that remains is a wasteland governed by tyrannical men, populated by downtrodden hordes, and hopefully, rescued by mythical heroes. Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) rules with an iron fist, doling out meagre amounts of water to the masses, while keeping a stable of wives for himself to breed future warlords. His most trusted Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) has betrayed him and freed these women from their lives of sexual slavery. Now, the chase is on, as Immortan Joe and his party of warboys set out to retrieve their "property". If Furiosa and co. are to succeed, they’ll need the help of Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), a wandering road warrior in search of a cause. Director George Miller has crafted the most dynamic, vibrant and sensational action blockbuster of the decade with Fury Road. it’s an inventive, high-octane kick in the guts to a film industry that has played it safe for far too long. The chases and stunts in this film are unparalleled. Best of all, the film's cut-to-the-chase plot manages to sneak in a powerful and extremely timely rebuttal to patriarchy. IMDB Rating: 8.1, Rotten Tomatoes: 97% Need some kid-friendly entertainment that will make the whole family happy? We've selected some of the best family movies that Netflix Australia has to offer. When Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) stumbles upon an injured Night Fury, the rarest and most-feared dragon in existence, he manages to befriend the creature (which he adorably names 'Toothless'), eventually teaching his family a valuable lesson in the process. Packed with incredible action and adventure, How to Train Your Dragon is a classic that can be enjoyed by both young and old. IMDB Rating: 81%, Rotten Tomatoes: 98% Beauty and the Beasthttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GFuhnVmC9Qhw5y64uKBsD8.jpg Credit: Disney An utterly enchanting and completely magnificent live-action adaptation of one of Disney's most celebrated animated classics, Beauty and the Beast absolutely nails the source material — maybe even betters it in some regards. Much of the praise can be bestowed upon Emma Watson, who plays Belle with grace and warmth. The same can be said about Dan Stevens, who spends the film injecting life into the computer-generated Beast. Luke Evans comes close to stealing the show, though as the vicious and vain Gaston. We're also pleased to report that all of the original film's songs are present and accounted for, so gather the whole family and settle in for a wonderful night singing, laughing and crying. IMDB Rating: 7.3, Rotten Tomatoes: 71% The Lego Batman Moviehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bgrJYQxBip45gm9b7qXDUf.jpg Credit: Warner Bros. In The Lego Batman Movie, all of the Dark Knight's villains are teaming up to take over Gotham City, and it's up to Batman and his newly adopted sidekick Robin (Michael Cera) to stop them! With an incredible cast of comedic superstars in tow, including Zach Galifianakis as the Joker, Conan O'Brien as The Riddler and Riki Lindhome as Poison Ivy, The Lego Batman Movie keeps the laughs coming for its entire runtime. Quite frankly, it's the best Batman film since The Dark Knight. IMDB Rating: 7.3, Rotten Tomatoes: 91% Fantastic Mr. Foxhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3nJaGLbyMzMjxHEaTiAx3E.jpg Credit: 20th Century Fox Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom) is a writer/director know for his whimsical and inimitable style, with characters who are fleshed out (regardless of whether they're actually people) and have warmth and heart to spare. With his first foray into family-fare, Fantastic Mr. Fox, the visionary filmmaker succeeded in creating his most accessible film to date. Based on the classic story by Roald Dahl, the film follows a wily fox (played with incredible charm and terrific comedic timing by George Clooney) who bandies together with his family (voiced by Meryl Streep and Jason Schwartzman) and friends (including voice work from regular Wes Anderson collaborator, Bill Murray) to fight off the mean farmers that plan to destroy their homes. Featuring wonderful stop-motion animation, Fantastic Mr. Fox is a heartfelt and hilarious film that's destined to become a family favourite. IMDB Rating: 7.8, Rotten Tomatoes: 93% The Iron Gianthttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/dtr8wHZmmnWecj65QDx4UX.jpg Credit: Warner Bros. Criminally overlooked by audiences upon initial release, The Iron Giant is an animated film that has steadily grown in appreciation over the years, to the point where many traditional animation purists now consider it an undisputed classic. The feature-length debut of director Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), and Set during the 1950s at the height of the 'Red Scare' period of America's history, The Iron Giant tells the story of a lonely boy named Hogarth (Eli Marienthal) who makes a new best friend in an enormous amnesiac robot (Vin Diesel). The robot eventually realises that he was actually built as a weapon, and before long, the authorities find out about him and set out on a quest to destroy the gentle giant. Now the boy and his metallic friend have to protect each other at all costs. A touching film in the tradition of E.T. the Extra-terrestrial, The Iron Giant deserves to be considered as not just a terrific animated film, but as one the greatest films of the '90s, period. IMDB Rating: 8.0, Rotten Tomatoes: 96% Back to the Futurehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/A4TaSPsVsxzxhujgG2Z4Sb.jpg Credit: Universal / Sony Pictures A time-travelling classic from director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump) and producer Steven Spielberg (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Back to the Future sees 1980s teenager Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) race back to the 1950s to ensure that his parents meet during high school and fall in love – he better succeed, because if he fails, he'll be wiped from existence in his current timeline! To do this, he'll need help from Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) – an eccentric scientist who's built a working time machine in the form of a DeLorean sports car. A fantastic fish-out-of-water tale that leans heavily on 1950s nostalgia, great performances and terrific visual effects, Back to the Future can be considered a high-watermark from everyone involved.
