Silent 3.3 Windows Server Installation Guide !!!

Hi, I am thinking of installing Silent 3.3 on my "WINDOWS" server. I am not having any luck in finding detailed installation instrutions.

I have the 3.3 silent files ready to go but need a bit of clarafication before I can proceed.

I am running Jaymod 2.1.10 on the server.

I am going to list what I need clarafication on below.

1) The silent cfg goes in the etmain file folder is this correct. Seems to me it should be in the Silent File folder.

2) The Silent file folder only has the settings cfg. This is for banners only correct.

3) Maybe I'm missing it but I don't see a server cfg anywhere. Does silent need a server cfg.

4) Can I make a server cfg file and add "exec server.cfg" (with out the Quots of course) to the silent cfg.

5) Can't find where to enable punkbuster on silent cfg.

6) Is my Jaymod custom sound pak compatable with silent mod 3.3

7) Where do I install the GeoIP data file.

8) Does liblua5.1so and lua5.1 apply to windows Server.

This are my main concern questions,I'm sure some thing else will come to mind later but getting the silent 3.3 mod insalled properly will get the server up and running and will fine tune it as we go along. Thanks RaNeR

Hello,

 

SilEnT manual can be found in download package or from our website here:

 

1. You can either keep it in etmain or silent mod folder. Both should work fine.

2. Correct.

3. In the download package under etmain folder there is config called silent.cfg. You can use that one and change command line on your windows server to execute it i.e. instead of +exec server.cfg use +exec silent.cfg

4. Yes.

5. U can enable punkbuster by adding pb_sv_enable in server.cfg or silent.cfg (whichever you decide to use) or by adding +set sv_punkbuster 1 in command line.

6. It should be. Give it a try. If it doesn't work, post your pk3 here and I can look into it.

7. Download it from here. In next build, we will add it in package itself or probably give it separately in download package.

8. .so extension doesn't apply for windows. You need to use lua5.1.dll provided in package. Even if you upload any files with extension .so it will not do anything on windows server. They are linux executables.

Thanks for the quick come back, where do I install the GeoIp data file, and what else do I have to do other than setting the cvar to "1"

Geoip goes in mod folder i.e. under /silent/ folder.

 

Download from here means download from the attachment, attached to the post.

Well the server is running but can't see it on the brouser this is my command line

+set dedicated 2 +set net_ip "66.185.21.58" +set net_port "27960" +set sv_maxclients "22" +set fs_game silent sv_punkbuster "0" +exec silent.cfg

I made a server cfg and added exec server.cfg to the silent.cfg

I set the net ip to "66.185.21.58" and the port to "27960" on the silent.cfg.

I can see the server and get on it if I use the etmain default command line.

So its got to be something I'm doing wrong on the silent mod.

Oh one question where should the lua dill be installed on the silent folder ? Any Ideas on what is going on. Thanks RaNeR.

Mr Hellreturn I got a small Guitch I an getting error (missing Name field in info) when trying to connect to

server, I can connect to jaymod,NQ,etpub, no error but on silent well on my server anyway,I get the error any ideas, thanks RaNeR.

Got same think after new profile, we to another computer and worked O.K. the computer that is giving me the

error has a patch setector installed and the one that worked with no error does not, don't see how that would

make a difference but with E.T. as finiky as it is that could be causing it.

Hi, can not find g_misc on silent cfg and some others do you know if there in there but I am missing them or

they will have to be added to the silent cfg. If added it will read "set g_misc " "

I have XPSave "1" and sv_wwwDlDisconnected "0" but when server is stopped and restarted the players xp is lost.?

It will save xp as long as the server is not restarted.

 

Cant find "g_gametype" need to set it to "6" on silent cfg do I have to add this one also?

Description

Ways to change how map voting works

Only valid when g_gametype is 6 (see Map Voting)

Parameters

Type: bitmask

1 Changes the tie breaker so that the map not played in the longest wins

2 Intermission doesn't end until g_intermissionReadyPercent people have voted. If there are no players connected to the server, intermission will end at the timeout. (WARNING: This means that if there are spectators connected and not voting, the next map will not load until those spectators either vote, disconnect, or get kicked by the system)

4 Multi vote: Allows everybody to vote for 3 maps instead of one, first choice map gets 3 votes, second choice gets 2, third choice gets one

8 Don't randomize the maps, so they will always appear in the same order

16 A passed nextmap vote (when g_gametype is 6) will start the intermission and lets players vote which map should be played next. NOTE: this makes one of the two teams be displayed as winner

 

Default: 0

You can find all server variables from this link/manual.

 

If g_misc is not added in config it will choose default value i.e. 0.

 

If you like to modify the behavior, then you can add it in server config as:

 

set g_misc 5

 

5 = 1 + 4 = Enable double jump and HP display.

 

To store XP you need:

set g_XPSave 23
set g_XPSaveMaxAge_xp "1d"
set g_XPSaveMaxAge "30d"

 

You need to set g_gametype in your map rotation config i.e. objectivecycle.cfg to enable map voting.

Sorry for all the Questions but some of this stuff is not matching up.

The manual says this: This gametype allows for the players to decide on the map that is played next.

When g_gametype is set to 6 a new screen is introduced during intermission. This screen list,

depending on server configuration, a list of up to 32 maps that are loaded on the server,

and that all players can vote on. Once intermission ends, the server totals the votes,

and plays the next map based upon the vote results.

 

I have this on silent server cfg.

set g_gametype "mapvotecycle.cfg

exec mapvotecycle.cfg

 

Its kinda working but I am running 16 maps on the mapvotecycle.cfg and only have six maps to choose from.

how do I get all sixteen maps to show up.

And there are no maps showing up on the ingame mapvote.

 

Then manual says to do this:

Miscellaneous notes about mapvoting:

Total maps allowed is 32. If server admin has more than 32 .bsp files, only the first 32 are used

Tie breaker. The default tie-breaker is such that if 2 or more maps are tied with the same number of votes, the map that was played most recently is selected.

Bots and connecting players do NOT count for mapvoting, everyone else (including spectators) does.

If no maps are voted for, the default "nextmap" cvar is used, so server admins have to specify a default map cycle of sort, usually in the following format.

This means that the default map, upon server start, will be oasis. From there, map voting will be used. If at any point,

no map is voted for, battery will be played, etc

 

Had some players drop by when I was working on the server and they liked what they saw a lot of eye candy.

Just got to get all the bugs out. The silnet mod is running fine no hickups at all.

I still need to set up players userdb file and server levels. But I'll do them at the end of the setup.

Update Hellreturn, got map voting to work in with this settings.

set g_gametype 6

This settings got map vote at intermission working.

The ingame map voting "Esc/Voting/Maps/ is blank no maps showing but the maps are there if I tick where the maps are

and hit F1 the vote passes and the server restarts and map executes, but there is no map names showing it is blank.

I went in the mapvotecycle.cfg here it is:

If i change the 6 to 16 the maps maps show up as they should, but then the map vote will not work at intermission no screen shows up at all.

I know the setting is 6 I changed it to 16 because there are 16 maps in the rotation. And it worked well almost worked,

Here in the Silent server cfg see if you can see what is cauing the problem.

That sounds weird and so I assumed there was no maps in the etmain folder. Maps can be placed in the silent folder also where they can be loaded but that is problematic and forces the clients to download all the maps on connect.

No go still doing the same thing. Are you seeing the map names in your server? Do know if this is a bug? What is weird is when I change the number on the mapvotecycle.cfg Like this they are visiable.

This sounds like a problem with the fonts used for the map list. Can you check what happens if you change the font settings in ESC/silEnT/Fonts.

 

Changing the g_gametype value to 16 is indeed a weird one. Can't imagine a reason for it to have an effect like that and the g_gametype value is passed to all clients in the serverinfo. You can confirm the value with serverbrowser websites like TrackBase. Do note that all the values above 5 will display as mapvoting there. Gametype 7 is Team Death Match gametype, but that uses different cvar for enabling the map voting. These cvars do not collide no matter how they are set.

Hey Gaoesa, changing fonts does nothing, I checked another silent 260.b server and its doing the same thing as

mine no maps showing on Esc/voting/maps. I know the information for Esc/voting/maps comes from one of two places, etmain or mapvotecycle.cfg do you know which one it is? I think it is the mapvotecycle.cfg because as I said if I change the g_gametype number from 6 to 16 all sixteen maps show up. The other thing that could cause it is a currupt file but with one could it be is the question. I guess I could save my Silent Server cfg, database files.Delete all the Silent mod fills and start fresh. Don't know what else to try I was hoping it was a cvar that was set wrong on the Silent server cfg.

My other server is 2.60b and it is using map voting without problems, though with TDM. Also, I know pure 2.60b servers that use objective map voting without problems. I don't see how that could be a problem.

They come from the etmain folder. The mapvotecycle.cfg only creates some user cvars for the server to use.

 

I guess I could save my Silent Server cfg, database files.Delete all the Silent mod fills and start fresh.

 

I would suggest deleting/moving elsewhere all the files you don't need. Especially all the custom packs if you have any. Then all the cfg files that you are not using, there are many.

That is why the quick installation uses silent.cfg. We thought about the folder where to put the cfg. I prefer using the mod folder but it turned out, most admins place the files in the etmain folder. We don't provide file named the server.cfg for that exact reason.

 

There is no such gametype as 16. That is what is weird.

Could you PM me or post your silent cfg so I can mirror your setting to mine.

I need a working cfg with no bugs in it. Or if you want I can PM you the servers control panel logins and you all can take a look and see if you can spot the problem. thanks RaneR

According to what I've read on the manual the above are all the

commands that control map execution and map voting.

 

 

Should the mapvoteinfo.cfg be somewhere on the silent server cfg

or is it checked automaticly by the silent?

 

 

 

Below are the maps in the mapvoteinfo.cfg

All the maps in my etmain are shown. but still nothing showing on

Esc/vote/maps, and on the intermission vote screen only 16 maps are

available for voting same number that is on my mapvotecycle.cfg

seems to me it's reading the mapvotecycle.cfg and not the maps installed on

etmain. Let me know if you see anything that is set wrong or If
