  1. Sage, get on ETF tonight - i might be able to help you with this as I've been around the block getting the gametype_6 to take. A good start would be to run the server, and then run /g_gametype in console to see what it reports back. I have a feeling it might be your campaigncycle.cfg or objcycle.cfg (normally mine are filled with gametype_6 entries to ensure the gamemode doesn't change) We can review more in detail later. -FDM
  2. We have noticed that it makes issue of quick team switching. You must go spec, then join the other team: otherwise you get the message "Shoutcasters may not join a team" - other than that, it is very useful to spectators to know who's who: and makes for better spectating. FYI: We're having an event on our server Friday (all day) - come by and say hello. More info here: http://forum.splatterladder.com/index.php?showtopic=15467&st=0&p=85343&&do=findComment&comment=85343 -FDM
  3. Beck, We figured this out. It isn't very difficult, it just isn't documented anywhere. 1.Create a .pk3 file - in this case; we'll call it IOW.pk3 2.Within the PK3 create a the folders: gfx\loading 3. Within that loading subfolder, place your modified image for the loading screen. It's basically just a 1024x1024 TGA (saved at 24 or 32 bit only). The image file needs to be called: camp_map.tga 4. Add this PK3 to silent folder on the server. If that isn't clear enough, you can do this: /connect etforever.com If you connect to our server, you will download ~ETF.pk3 which contains the custom loading screen (saved to your silent folder). You can then extract that file and modify the tga within it for IOW. Once done, rename the ~ETF.pk3 to whatever you want, place it in your servers' silent folder, and it should be good to go. This loading screen change will only be effective on your server: which is good, it's not invasive on the core files of the game. Hope this helps: post back if you have any issues. -FDM
  4. Does anyone know if it's possible to see name tags of players while in spectator mode? Just like when spectating as a shoutcaster, you can see the names of players over their heads. We are looking for a way to implement this on our server so that SPECTATORS can see names over the players playing (w/o having to be made a shoutcaster). Thanks in advance! -FDM
  5. I've been all over the support forums looking for a walkthrough for customizing the loading screens on Silent 0.9.0 Can someone post a basic walkthrough of doing this? This is the most I've found on the wiki relating to it, and it's a little vague. Specific questions being: 1. Where does the _silent image file go? 2. What format should it be saved as (jpg/tga/etc) Thanks in advance! -FDM Customizing Loading Screen Q: How do I customize the loading screen? A: Starting from silEnT 0.9.0, server admins can customize the loading screen. This is opposed to modifying the global loading screen. These modifications are loaded and used only when connecting to a server that references the custom loading screen. To convet existing loading screen customizations to silEnT mod, start a local server which references the old file and read logs. The logs will inform all the needed changes for the loading screen. The modification is generally done by adding _silent to the name of the image file.
  6. I'm unsure which of these have been suggested in the past, but here goes. 1. Blind firing (able to use supressing fire around corner / while peeking - but rounds are greatly spread out (no fine aiming). 2. Door Kicking Open with ability to crush enemies on the other side. 3. General Kicking with animation added 4. IED - Throw level variable (Make it possible to throw the IED further via a setting change server side) 5. IED launchable via grenade launcher (ok this is my own pipe dream) 6. Shotgun 7. Venom 8. BAR/STG 7. Poison gas mines / Poison gas smoke canister (covy) Any of these additions would be set in the server cvars settings. I know people have differing opinions on these settings, so I feel it would be nice if all of these could be turned on or off. The weapons and kicking modifications obviously exist in NQ/Jaymod: but I'm thinking why not cherry pick the best of those mods and make these additional options customizable via the server config? ETF is also available to help test any Silent mod changes or future releases. We have our main server as well as a backup map testing server. Thanks for reading.
  7. Edit: I re-read your idea - I think the obituary his/her is what we're all really after. Sally's legs were blown off by her poor panzer shot! As for game chat indicating player sex: well, it's unneeded imo. What is your thinking in terms of code-changes/scripting to make that possible? I feel like if it's possible to distinguish the player sex via chat: then surely the obituary messages could be modified in such a way to reflect player sex. Thanks for the suggestion!
  8. I guess my point is, that if you loaded up a skin pack that contained female models: it would still say: "Flyingdutchman sat on his own grenade" Zelly: I figured this might be possible via lua, but will need to look into it. Even if this setting were possible only on the server side: it would work for us. We would specify which players are females that way: and this would also remove the occasional male (troll) making out as a female. Thanks for the feedback.
  9. There isn't any active relation being made; the game was just originally made with the default text being of the male tense. Men that pretend to be women have existed long before the internet and will likely continue to do so. Nothing I can do about that. I think we're all aware that the models in game are men, I'm not disputing that; but there are women that play this game. I just wanted to see if it were possible for the game logs to reflect this. It's a very minor feature request and if it cannot be incorporated in the next version of Silent, this thread could be used to share with others how to make this possible on their server via a workaround/scripting. Oxyzium: Thanks for the suggestion: I'll dive into the code a bit and see what I find.
  10. I agree, that this isn't high priority: but if it were something that could easily be added, well it would be nice. We have some lovely ladies that game nightly at our server: not to mention the WF server which is run & administrated by mostly women... This request is for all of you.
  11. There are different skin packs, some include female models: but the idea here is more for distinction in the logs and text of the game. I figured it wouldn't take much to add a Gender field in the silent menu or profile settings, which in turn reflects in the correct output in game text/logs.
  12. He/She/It? Figure going with 50+ gender options like Facebook is unnecessary Thanks for for the Welcome!
  13. I was wondering if it is possible to add a field in the settings to distinguish whether the player is a male or female. Subsequent actions in the game would reflect this. Example: "Sally blew herself up with a hand grenade" We have a few women that play on our server, and it would be nice to give them the option to distinguish whether they are male or female in game. NPR reported this morning that HALF of all gamers are now women: so I feel this is a step in the right direction. Thoughts?
