silEnT mod version 0.9.0 is out!

    Important
We have found recently that there is a bug in the censoring which disables the functionality completely.
We have fixed it and updated the package. Everyone who downloaded the 0.9.0 package before 22.11.2015 is advised to download the updated package and update his/her server binaries.

    Download

    Change log:

    Version 0.9.0

Added: Server customizable menu that is opened in addition to the silEnT mod menu.
Added: Possibility for admins to modify the loading screen of their server. As opposed to modifying the loading screen of every server.
Added: New client command mem_report. This command prints diagnostics of the client memory pooling.
Added: New client cvars: cg_numPopups, cg_popupStayTime and cg_popupFadeTime for controlling popup behaviour.
Added: Server checks the setup and refuses to start if problems are found. This includes checks that official menus are not modified.
Added: New option g_forceLimboHealth 2, which matches the ETPro gib damage (125).The option 1 remains as the original ETPub gib health (150).
Added: Rate setting is incresed automatically step by step if fragmented snapshots are received from the server. This improves the playability and removes the need to force this setting to players.
Added: Server extension modules. With this technology, server functionality can be expanded to various tasks without bloating the qagame library or forcing every admin to use same extension.
Added: Statistics module. This module collects various game play data into a relational database. Current choices are SQLit3 and PostgreSQL.
Added: Censor module. This module can be configured to censor names and chat with real regular expressions.
Added: new fun wars: !knifewar, !stenwar, !riflenadewar, !rifleshootwar, !pistolwar (added g_headshot bitmask value 4 to control instagib of headshot for pistolwar).
Added: New server cvar: g_incognitoCountryFlag to control the country flag displayed for the incognito admin.
Added: If g_dmg is set server side, body hitsounds have different volumes depending of the damage. This can be disabled by the players.
Added: Forcing some cvars is now restricted. These include the client side hitsound selection and theme.
Added: Player screenshots. Now admins can take player screenshots which works same as PB screenshots. 2.6b clients supported. Screenshot will have Server name, IP, Player Name, silEnT GUID, PB GUID and Player IP in it.
Fixed: G_QueryClientCvar/et_CvarValue can no longer be used to query rcon password.
Fixed: In silEnT AC a part of the Anti-Cheat was not compiled into the mod in version 0.8.2. This resulted some previously known cheats to not getting detected.
Fixed: The arm hit detection was not working correctly from the side shots. Fixed by adding additional temporary box for the torso.
Fixed: !rename admin command doesn't allow adding backslashes to names anymore.
    Fixed: sv_cvar OUT handling.
Fixed: Objective carry icon counting spectators too.
Fixed: Crashes related to UI_Alloc running out of memory. It does not run out of memory.
Fixed: Ties on highest fragger are solved by comparing kill/death difference. I.e. less deaths will win.
Fixed: When g_realbody was set to 1. With certain crouch animations the middle box was not high enough to cover shoulders.
Fixed: Ties on the most headshots are solved by comparing the amount of shots fired to reach the amount. The player with less shots fired will win.
Fixed: et_UpgradeSkill Lua hook was passing invalid client numbers to scripts.
Fixed: Allied hand grenades erroneously recorded kills as axis hand grenades. This change should be noted by all log parsers that parse MOD_ values from kills.
Fixed: g_headshot bitmask value 2. It used to apply the g_instagibDamage to every hit. Fixed to apply the damage to only headshots.
Fixed: tripmine palcement bug leading to exploit (thanks to Beck for the report).
Fixed: theme bug regarding small titled windows.
Fixed: report bug official menu had bad background definition (with widescreen).
Fixed: The g_weapons flag 32768 was treated as always enabled if any of the g_weapons flags was set.
Fixed: Missing ETPro icon from the SD credits menu.
Fixed: Non-literal characters not allowed in names anymore.
Fixed: Omni-bot + tripmine crash when the map script is missing "script_multiplayer".
Removed: ui_autoredirect client cvar. This is used to hack player games. Redirecting still works, but players are presented a choice in a popup.
Improved: rifle war nade shooting is not influenced by the charge bar anymore.
Improved: Menus cleaned. All options can be found under the Options button.
Changed: silEnT mod uses now LUA 5.3.
    Download

    Enjoy!

Night Hunter got a reaction from BettyBoop in New credit cards aim to protect consumers
US consumers are about to get a new defense against cybercrime. The armor will take the form of credit and debit cards with a built-in chip, which retailers must be able to read as of Thursday.

Short for EuroPay, MasterCard and Visa, EMV chips create a one-time-use code needed for each purchase, which makes stolen card numbers less valuable on the black market. Consumers may see slightly longer transaction times as in-store readers run the EMV cards, assuming merchants have set up the new payment terminals in time.

Industry watchers don't expect every merchant to meet Thursday's deadline, which was set last year by MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express. Retailers do have an incentive to act quickly, though. Stores that don't have EMV-reading terminals will need to make good on in-store purchases made with counterfeit cards. ATMs and gas pumps will face the same liabilities in 2017.

The card companies wrote that rule after cybercriminals stole about 40 million credit and debit card numbers from the payment system of retailer Target during the 2013 holiday-shopping season. Currently, the banks that issue cards are on the hook for fraudulent charges.

There are two ways hackers steal sensitive information. They can use card skimmers to read a card's magnetic stripe at an ATM or gas pump. They can also penetrate retailers' corporate information systems, as they have with Target, Home Depot, Neiman Marcus and many others, to copy card numbers. Those stolen numbers can be used on fake cards to make fraudulent purchases. Two-thirds of fraudulent purchases inside stores are made with counterfeit cards, said Stephanie Ericksen, Visa's vice president of risk products. Authentic cards that were stolen account for the other third.

That's where these new chip cards can help. Because the chips send encrypted, one-time codes for each transaction, the cards are harder for fraudsters to read and duplicate, experts say. While the cards are just rolling out in the US, the technology isn't new. Europe started using cards with embedded chips in 2005. Apple Pay and Android Pay mobile payments work on the same underlying rules.

Despite the impending retailer deadline, many consumers still don't know about the new kinds of cards. In an August survey by electronic payments company ACI Worldwide, 59 percent of consumers reported they hadn't received credit cards with EMV chips. Only a third knew the United States is shifting toward chip readers. What's more, only 27 percent of merchants are prepared for the October deadline for card reader technology, according to a report released in mid-September by the Strawhecker Group, a consulting firm for the payments industry.

Experts say the slow rollout could be due to the cost of new card-reading equipment. Merchants must weigh the expense of buying new payment systems and training employees on that gear against the unknown hit from fraudulent charges. Some may even consider their new liabilities the cost of doing business.

Consumers will need to adapt to the new system too, experts said.

"There may be some initial inconvenience at the point of sale," said TJ Horan, vice president of product management at FICO, which helps banks determine a consumer's credit risk.

Despite the increased security, industry watchers don't expect card fraud to disappear. Horan likens it to squeezing a water balloon: If you push fraud out of the system in one place, it will simply shift somewhere else.

Clarification, 8:55 a.m. PT: The name of parent company ACI Worldwide has been added.

Night Hunter got a reaction from alex in Volkswagen using software to cheat US diesel emissions tests
For years we've been praising Volkswagen's TDI vehicles for their excellent blend of driving performance and fuel efficiency, but a recent claim by the US Environmental Protection Agency asserts that VW's diesel emissions may not be as clean as we've been led to believe.
    http://cnet2.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2014/06/04/3b04c472-baca-4131-b694-08c2a8168199/resize/570xauto/3e3d8c7fd0de0d484ff21373e775e8ea/2014-volkswagen-jetta-tdi-12.jpg

The EPA claims that illegal emissions control software was used on Volkswagen and Audi diesel vehicles sold in the United States between the model years 2009 and 2015. In its official statement, the EPA explains its findings:

"A sophisticated software algorithm on certain Volkswagen vehicles detects when the car is undergoing official emissions testing, and turns full emissions controls on only during the test. The effectiveness of these vehicles' pollution emissions control devices is greatly reduced during all normal driving situations. This results in cars that meet emissions standards in the laboratory or testing station, but during normal operation, emit nitrogen oxides, or NOx, at up to 40 times the standard. The software produced by Volkswagen is a "defeat device," as defined by the Clean Air Act."

Allegedly, the cars run in a clean mode when hooked up to testing equipment and switch back to a not-so-clean mode when disconnected. This causes the torquey TDIs to actually spew up to 40 times more tailpipe emissions when driven in the real world.

The affected vehicles are 2009-2015 model year Volkswagen Jetta, Beetle and Golf, the 2014-2015 VW Passat, and 2009-2015 Audi A3, totaling roughly 482,000 diesel passenger cars.

Neither the EPA's official statement nor its notice of violation to the Volkswagen Group of America makes any mention of a recall, but the agency did state that "VW may be liable for civil penalties and injunctive relief for the violations alleged in the [notice]." With a maximum possible fine of $37,500 per vehicle, VW and Audi could be looking at up to $18 billion in fines.

Night Hunter got a reaction from hellreturn in Prototype's HD Xbox One Release Struggles Compared to PS3/360 Versions
Activision this week released a surprise bundle consisting of Prototype and Prototype 2 on Xbox One (and then PS4). Despite the company's claims that these versions offer improved frame rates, evidence suggests otherwise, at least on Xbox One.

Digital Foundry has examined the Xbox One versions of both games and found them generally lacking. Prototype is said to run at 30 frames per second, with occasional dips to the mid-20s. And while it runs at 1080p, it's not as if the game's visuals have been completely overhauled, making it unclear why it doesn't run at 60 FPS. The site calls it "passable in its remastered guise, if a somewhat barebones conversion."

Prototype 2, on the other hand, fares more poorly. DF says it's "among the worst performing games on Xbox One to date," with stutter during cutscenes and a framerate in the 20-25 FPS range while moving around the city. Comparing it with the Xbox 360 version, the frame rate in the Xbox One release is lower in multiple areas. The Xbox One version also has a good deal of screen tearing, something not present on PS3 while still running at a better frame rate.

At best, it looks as if the Xbox One version is fighting to offer an experience on par with that of the last-gen versions, just at a higher resolution--things like texture quality and draw distance haven't been improved.

It's possible the PS4 version handles things better, but that remains to be seen.

In light of this, it's perhaps not a surprise that the Prototype Biohazard Bundle, as it's called, was released so quietly. It's not as if you're getting much of a discount, either--it costs $50 on both Xbox and PS4, though Activision said that it plans to offer each game on its own starting on August 11.
