Windows 10 has witnessed the release of another preview build for the update due to land in the first half of 2020, and the big change here is what Microsoft’s describing as a new experience with Cortana. Build 18945 has been released to testers in the fast ring, and sees the digital assistant being turned into a separate app within Windows 10 (you may recall that the beta version of the application was spotted in the Microsoft Store in June). And as was previously indicated, Cortana features a new chat-based interface that facilitates natural language queries. At the moment, though, this is only for testers in the US. The best Windows 10 antivirus of 2019How to install the Windows 10 May 2019 UpdateWindows 10 May 2019 Update problems: how to fix themMost of the features Cortana could previously handle are still here, but some important new functionality has been added. Microsoft notes: “We have updated Cortana with new speech and language models, and significantly improved performance – making it faster and more reliable than ever before.” The ‘Hey Cortana’ screen has been made more subtle and streamlined, so it represents less of an intrusion on what you’re currently doing on the desktop, and Cortana now supports both light and dark themes in Windows 10. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/gusD42WDFATpUQj4PuMfZX.jpg In the blog post introducing the preview, Microsoft stresses that this Cortana app is still in beta, so you may well see glitches (as ever), and not all functions that used to be accessible from Cortana are here – but more will be added over time, naturally. All the key core features are here, though, such as using Cortana to open apps, manage lists, set timers or reminders, along with Assistant conversations, Bing answers, and so forth. Slow rolloutAs mentioned, this new Cortana beta is only available to Windows Insiders in the US, and even then, there’s a phased rollout, so you may not see it just yet. As time goes on it will be deployed more widely, and outside the States. Microsoft has described the pace of the rollout as slow, but hopefully it won’t be too sluggish, and other territories won’t have to wait too long to get their teeth into this major change. Build 18945 also introduces some accessibility improvements including Narrator delivering a better experience when reading out messages in Outlook or Windows Mail. Windows Subsystem for Linux has also been tweaked with some useful bits and pieces such as the addition of global configuration options. We could be in line for quite a major iPad refresh later this year, as Apple has registered another two tablet models with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) regulator – models that don't match anything in the current line-up. As spotted by MySmartPrice, the new additions take the total number of mystery iPad devices in the EEC database to seven. It's likely that some of these are just slight variations in storage rather than distinct iPads. What the filings don't tell us is all that much about the devices themselves: all we know is that they're listed as running iPadOS, due out this September. It's possible that Apple is planning an October iPad event, something it has done in previous years. WhatsApp might be coming to the iPadA new MacBook Pro could be on the wayYour Siri recordings might get listened toFilling in the gaps, we could be in line for some new iPad Pros, which will be a year old this October. It might also be time to refresh the entry-level 9.7-inch iPad, originally introduced into the world in March 2018. Changes are comingWe haven't heard much in the way of rumors or leaks about the new iPads – except that some of them might include improved cellular reception – so it's possible that we're looking at smaller upgrades rather than major refreshes. What we do know is that Apple unveiled a 10.5-inch iPad Air and 7.9-inch iPad Mini back in March 2019, so those two particular lines won't be getting a revamp this time around. It's possible that Apple wants to eventually get all its iPads looking like the iPad Pros, with thin bezels and no Home button, but considering the main selling point of the 9.7-inch iPad is its affordability, it might retain the classic design. If new iPad Pros are indeed on the way, the main changes are likely to be internal ones, with extra speed bumps on the cards. The new, modern design is not yet a year old, so will probably be retained for another 12 months. We've ranked all the iPads to help you pick the right oneVia MacRumors http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/XM-6LkNMPqg

Well this is starting to get all too familiar...Lewis Hamilton has landed yet another 2019 Formula 1 season pole position and will look to cement his place at the top of the Drivers' Championship standings in Germany today. Here's how to live stream F1 at the German Grand Prix from anywhere you are. The 2019 F1 season has reached Germany and with that the legendary Hockenheimring circuit. This track, used by the F1 since 1970, is set in the beauty of the surrounding forest and features some fast lap times despite lots of dramatic corners. So it's Hamilton leading from the front again, but this time with a less familiar front row partner - Austrian GP winner Max Verstappen. Mercedes man Valtteri Bottas starts in third, while Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari's woes continue at the driver's home track. He failed to post a qualifying lap and so starts right at the back of the grid today. Last year saw Hamilton take the win as local lad Vettel slid out in the rain. Even a four-time world champion can be caught out at Turn 11 near the stadium section, so that's definitely worth keeping a close eye on this year. This should be a really intense race with lots of high-pace action, that you get to enjoy. Yup, you can stream F1 live from anywhere in the world – read on to find out how to watch the German Grand Prix where you are. Cycling fan? Content warning: There are details and personal anecdotes about eating disorders in this article. Tracking workouts, steps and calories with wearable devices and apps has become the new normal. Take a look around next time you’re at the gym or go for a jog around the park – most people working out have a wearable strapped to their wrist or a phone strapped to their arm. The number of connected wearable devices worldwide will push 74 million this year and is expected to rise to more than 1 billion by 2022 – health-focused wearables will make up a large part of that number. Right now, there are fitness wearables aimed at casual users, like the Fitbit Inspire HR, through to those more serious about running, like Garmin’s Forerunner range. Even devices that aren’t marketed solely for their health-focused features, like the Apple Watch, tend to have step counting, calorie burn and exercise tracking built-in as a standard. This means even if you haven’t bought a wearable or smartwatch to track your activity, data about your body is often only a few swipes away. However, there’s mounting evidence to suggest that wearable devices may not help everyone to become healthier or fitter. Instead, some research suggests they could take the fun out of fitness, turn out to be useless after six months or hinder long-term weight loss. What’s more, a handful of newer studies also propose that having instant access to data about your health at your fingertips could lead to anxiety and trigger or exacerbate disordered eating and exercise in some people. Given the continued rise in wearable technology, and the fact that health-focused devices are being introduced in gyms, corporate ‘wellness’ programmes, and marketed at children and young people, it’s important that we better understand how activity, food and weight tracking could do more harm than good. The link between fitness tracking and disordered eatinghttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Wx9iEV45iY5hdWw69b7bVn.jpg We spoke to Dr Carolyn Plateau, a lecturer in psychology at Loughborough University, who has been studying the effect that fitness trackers, as well as health-focused apps, have on regular users. Her most recent study aimed to explore the differences in disordered eating, disordered exercise and mental wellbeing between people who use fitness trackers and apps to record food intake and those who don’t. “Our findings were interesting as they indicated that those who did track their activity or food intake showed higher levels of both disordered eating and exercise than those who did not,” Dr Plateau tells TechRadar. “In particular, higher levels of purging behavior (e.g. excessive or driven exercise to control or modify weight or shape) was found among the tracking group.” We asked Amanda Perl, a psychotherapist and Counselling Directory member who specializes in working with patients with eating disorders, about this link. “Calorie counting, strict dieting and excessive exercising are all symptoms of disordered eating,” Perl tells us. “Tracking devices can exacerbate these symptoms as they’re fixated on all those things.” This preoccupation with health-focused metrics and goal setting also leaves little room for balance, Perl explains, “trackers can increase feelings of failure, self-loathing and feeling out of control.” Even those who may not exhibit disordered eating behavior could be at risk of setting impossibly high standards for themselves. “Apps and devices can take over and promote perfectionism,” she tells us, “an unattainable illusion that promotes feelings of vulnerability through to depression.” Although participants of Plateau’s study who tracked their activity and food intake showed higher levels of disordered eating, she explains we can’t infer cause and effect and say for certain that trackers cause disordered eating – more research would need to be carried out over a longer period of time. “It could just be that participants with disordered eating and exercise tendencies may be more likely to want to track their food and fitness,” she tells us. The results do suggest, however, that tracking with health-focused wearables and apps could exacerbate or maintain disordered eating behavior. “It’s possible monitoring of activity and food intake could inadvertently encourage or validate some of the features of disordered eating and exercise amongst those who are vulnerable,” Plateau explains. “It is also possible that this could contribute towards the obsessive and highly self-critical perfectionistic tendencies that we see in individuals with eating related issues.” But Plateau stresses that there are many factors involved in determining someone’s vulnerability to disordered eating, as well as the likelihood that behavior could turn into a full-blown eating disorder. The darker side of calorie-counting and nutrition apps Although health-focused wearables provide the automatic, real-time tracking that can lead to a preoccupation with exercise and health data, apps used on their own may also validate the same kind of behavior – but with more focus on food intake. A number of recent studies have shown apps with large databases of food that present detailed nutritional values, like MyFitnessPal, are widely used in the eating disorder community. Hayley Pearse, who is recovering from an eating disorder and documenting her recovery journey at Brunch Over Bones, tells us that she’s been tracking calories in a notebook since 2012, but the rise in tracking apps exacerbated her disordered eating. “As technology has progressed, so has the ease of tracking every macro, every calorie and even my body fat percentages,” Pearse tells TechRadar. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Qkx284ELvXiBKFk4XnXhB6.jpg She found she was in a cycle of using many apps, but was always on the lookout for better options that gave her more control over what she ate. “It started with an obsession with my body fat percentage and fitness performance that every meal was portioned to macros – that’s what the apps were telling me to do.” “The more I used apps, the more I started to critique them as they didn't quite have every food on there,” Pearse explains. “I found that my safe and fear foods list had also doubled in size and if a certain food was not in the app then it was not going in me either!” It’s the granular data available on the apps that Pearse believes fuelled her fixation on food. “Apps gave me the knowledge of nutrients in food and also the 'skill' to gauge by sight how many calories are on the plate in front of me,” she says. “It’s too easy to get your hands on this level of information.” “Although I no longer track my intake to the same extent, I still to this day have these apps downloaded on my phone as a comfort blanket,” she says. “But I am learning to listen to my body's needs rather than an app's need.” Perl tells us this is an important step in recovery. As part of the therapeutic process, she helps people to “respond naturally to physical cues around hunger and feeling satisfied” rather than relying on the metrics or notifications from a health-focused app or wearable. Ask yourself: why do I need a fitness tracker in the first place?http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/vbByqeaHvCLDE7wVjz7HCA.jpg For every person who finds health-focused tech can exacerbate disordered eating, another might use the exact same app or device to set and reach goals in a healthy way. “A lot of the behavior change literature tells us that self-monitoring is an effective way by which to achieve behavior change, and most people will find tracking devices helpful,” Dr Plateau explains. It’s difficult to predict what kind of experience someone will have with a tracking device, which is why Dr Plateau suggests everyone who has one should check in with themselves about how the goals they’ve set with their wearable or app make them feel. “If someone feels very anxious about the feedback a fitness tracker provides, or finds themselves constantly having to reach specific, escalating targets (e.g., step counts, calories burnt) then it possibly indicates that their relationship with the device isn’t as healthy as it could be, and it may be sensible to stop using the device, at least temporarily,” she explains. She also recommends considering the reasons for using a fitness device in the first place. Research has shown that using a health-focused device solely for weight or shape-related goals is linked to more concerning attitudes towards eating and food. Although, the reasons for using health-focused devices can easily shift. “Someone may start to use a fitness device to find out a bit more about their level of activity, perhaps to become a bit healthier and a bit fitter,” Dr Plateau says. “It may be that over time, their motivations change and weight-or-shape related goals become more prominent.” Regardless of your experience with health-focused tracking, Dr Plateau suggests everyone should take a break from the feedback and monitoring that an app or wearable provides: “I would suggest that we all consider going tech-free every now and again.” For more information about disordered eating and eating disorders, as well as advice about how to get help for yourself or a loved one, please visit the charity Beat in the UK or NEDA in the US. Holloway comes into the fight defending his featherweight title off the back of a defeat against Dustin Poirier at UFC 235 which brought to an end to a 13-fight, 6-year winning streak. While UFC 240 marks Edgar's first appearance in the Octagon in over a year, after a bicep injury ruled the veteran out from a planned clash with Chan Sung Jung at UFC Denver in November. The pair will share top billing with the Women’s Featherweight title contest between Cris Cyborg and Felicia Spencer. Spencer goes into the fight undefeated in seven, but is up against the experienced Cyborg, who makes her return to the Octagon after her losing her title to fellow Brazilian Amanda Nunes at UFC 323. While over the past two years cryto-currencies such as Bitcoin have peaked and dipped, mining for crypto-currencies has continued to intensify to the point where at present it's difficult to almost impossible for ordinary computer uses to mine them in any manner that is cost-effective. The result is that mining rigs remain out of stock and not replenished, and serious miners are expected to have extended farms of hardware in order to keep going. However, there are cycles to economics, and while current conditions make it tough for mining, that doesn't mean to say it can't become accessible and profitable again in the future. With that in mind, for hardcore miners and dedicated enthusiasts, it may yet be worth still investing in hardware for crypto-currency mining. Pair the best mining CPU with the best mining GPU and best mining motherboard, and choose the best crypto-currency for your needs, then you could soon have a mining powerhouse that can potentially start earning enough to pay off your hardware and energy use while still making some profit. Here then are the best in mining CPU's still on the market. What is Bitcon? Understanding Bitcoin and cryptocurrenciesHow to buy BitcoinsBitcoin vs distributed ledger vs Ethereum vs blockchainThe best Bitcoin exchangesThe best mining processorshttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/x9TKqyPW2efzL9oYTtFVdj.jpg Having a 16 core, 32 thread processor for mining on gives you a huge advantage, but most of all, the Threadripper 1950X's huge 32MB of L3 cache makes it an incredible mining CPU for many cryptocurrencies. It's expensive, sure, but by putting it to work, you could soon pay off the initial outlay for this fantastic processor. Plus, if you tire of mining, you'll still end up with one heck of a processor! Read the full review: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qk32TCKQBeDMrSnNPUjkaj.jpg AMD's Ryzen line of processors has been a huge hit since its release, and these fantastic chips are also some of the best mining CPUs money can buy. The AMD Ryzen 7 1800X is a case in point: for a very compelling price you get an 8 core, 16 thread processor with 16MB of L3 cache. Read the full review: AMD Ryzen 7 1800X http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/8Naa7x22GWscGLmMX7cwYD.jpg While the processors we've mentioned above are great CPUs for mining in their own right, the Intel Pentium G4400 is an excellent CPU for running a low-cost mining PC. This is because the initial outlay is low, and it's not a power-hungry CPU to run, so you won't rack up huge energy bills. By keeping to a low-cost mining CPU like the Intel Pentium G4400, you'll soon pay off the expenses and turn a profit quickly. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/x3LquUVSKmG7fWJXVJWWaj.jpg It shouldn’t come as a surprise that with its mid-range chip, AMD offers more cores for less money when compared to Intel. While in year’s past this has equated to making compromises in other areas to keep the costs low, the Ryzen 5 1600X remains economical without being shown up. It makes it a strong choice for a mining CPU. Read the full review: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZW524VvSVwNTKcJ9UGrFiY.jpg While the Threadripper 1950X is our pick of the best mining CPU, its little brother, the Threadripper 1920X is a worthy processor for mining as well, as it has the same amount of L3 cache. Despite being 75% cheaper, and having less cores and threads, the 1920X produces around 90% of the hash rate as the more expensive 1950X. This means it's a wiser investment if you don't mind going for the best-of-the-best. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DaHWDKeiWTKALkjwhiiidj.jpg The Intel Core i5-7600K is an unlocked, overclockable quad-core processor from Intel, which makes it a great all-round CPU, and it's a dab hand at mining as well. It won't bring the kind of impressive hash rates the Threadrippers of this world will, but it is a powerful processor for driving mining rigs, and has good compatibility with some of the best mining motherboards on the market as well. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3RgXY2EyVyKSo5AfKbZGgj.jpg This is another great mining CPU for miners who are budget conscious and want a quick return on any hardware investments they make. You'll need to temper your expectations with what you want to get out of mining with a machine powered by an Intel Pentium G4560, but you'll find a solid performer that lets the GPUs do their jobs well. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/P5SmjBgARqj9KXg5BuKdaj.jpg If you're looking for a budget mining CPU from AMD, then the Ryzen 3 1300X is a brilliant choice, offering four cores compared to Intel's dual core budget CPUs of this price range, and a decent amount of L3 cache as well. One of the best things about Ryzen 3 chips is that in the future you could swap it out for a more powerful Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 chip, so this could be the ideal CPU for people taking a tentative first step into the world of cryptocurrency mining. The pressure is mounting on Aussie head coach Michael Cheika after their 2019 Rugby Championship campaign go off to a losing start against South Africa. While Argentina will feel hard done by after an agonising 20-16 defeat to New Zealand in Buenos Aires in their opening game of the tournament, and will be out to right that wrong today. It's set to be an absorbing game, and one you can watch in full with our Australia vs Argentina live stream guide below. The Wallabies have won just four of their 13 Test matches last year, and their opponents today aren't likely to offer any sympathy. Having been so comprehensively beaten in their last game, it's no surprise to find that Australia will be rising the changes for today's clash with both the backs and forwards set to see different personnel. Lang Park is a venue where they have had more success than any other ground on home soil and the Wallabies will be hoping they can get back to winning ways today and get back some much needed morale as the run-in for the World Cup draws ever closer. The Pumas defeated Australia 23-19 on their last trip Down Under, ending a 35-year wait for a win in Australia and they will certainly fancy their chances today. If they do pull off another win, they'll have to do it without their inspirational hooker Agustin Creevy who is ruled out thanks to a shoulder injury he picked up against the All Blacks last week. Let’s get this out of the way – for most people reading this MacBook Pro 2019 vs MacBook Pro 2018 comparison, it’s not a question of whether the MacBook Pro 2019 is worth upgrading to from the MacBook Pro 2018. You’d have to be incredibly rich to consider upgrading a laptop – especially one as powerful and expensive as the MacBook Pro – every year. While it’s tempting to always have the latest tech and cutting edge components, it’s just not economically viable. And while hardware – especially laptop components – are constantly improving, most of the time you’re not going to see such a radical leap in performance that it makes your current year-old MacBook feel obsolete – though there have been exceptions. However, this comparison of the MacBook Pro 2019 vs MacBook Pro 2018 is going to be useful for anyone who has an older MacBook Pro and is considering an upgrade. Ditto for anyone who’s never owned a MacBook Pro before. Should you go for the latest and greatest MacBook Pro, or would buying the slightly older model be a wiser decision? Let’s take a look… http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ox3iKACkuk7eANtGC28XTb.jpg DesignWe’ll cut to the chase with this: the MacBook Pro 2019’s design is identical to the MacBook Pro 2018’s. That means they are the same dimensions – 13.7 x 9.48 x 0.61-inches (34.92 x 24.07 x 1.55) – and the same weight – 4.02 pounds (1.83kg). They also both come in the choice for two colors: Space Gray and Silver, which means on the outside, you won’t be able to tell the difference between the MacBook Pro 2019 and MacBook Pro 2018. So, this means you’re not missing out on any fancy new designs or features if you go for the 2018 model instead of this year’s. It also means if you loved the design of previous MacBook Pros, you can buy the 2019 model safe in the knowledge that you know what you’re getting. However, for anyone hoping for a more revolutionary redesign, you’ll be disappointed. Similarly, if previous post-2016 MacBook designs left you cold, the 2019 model does nothing to rectify that. So, you get the Touch Bar, an OLED strip with interactive buttons, above the keyboard, which has been included since 2016, as well as a Touch ID sensor for logging in with your fingerprint. Both the MacBook Pro 2019 and MacBook Pro 2018 have a 15.4-inch screen with 2,880 x 1,800 resolution, along with the True Tone feature for more vibrant colors. Because of the identical designs, if you were disappointed by the MacBook Pro 2018’s paucity of ports – with just four Thunderbolt 3 ports – then you’ll again be disappointed by the 2019 model’s exact same port count. For regular users, the lack of ports won’t be too much of a bother, but for professionals who need to plug in legacy equipment, it means you need to invest in an adapter. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ESe3GHNDSMxdzGqfVeNHcc.jpg KeyboardThe MacBook Pro 2018 addressed some long-standing criticism that Apple was facing about the keyboards included in previous models. Essentially, there have been complaints that the keyboards of MacBook Pros made after 2016 can malfunction. Blame lay with the ‘butterfly’ switches Apple uses in these keyboards. The 2018 model kept the butterfly switches, but added a silicone membrane that was supposed to stop those issues occurring. Unfortunately, there were still reported issues, leading many to hope that Apple would ditch the butterfly switches for the MacBook Pro 2019. That hasn’t been the case, with the Mac Book Pro 2019 15-inch’s keyboard still using the problematic switches. However, Apple says it has further tweaked the keyboard, and while the company hasn’t divulged too much information about its tweaks, we do know that it has changed the materials used with the mechanism to reduce the likelihood of the keys getting stuck or not responding. While that is a welcome – though disappointingly minor – tweak, Apple has also included the new MacBook Pro (2019) models in its Keyboard Service Program, which will replace a faulty keyboard free of charge. This suggests that Apple hasn’t completely fixed the issue. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/prCgDXSqbAeXFfJPMrTiP4.jpg HardwareWhile the outsides of the 15-inch MacBook Pro 2019 and the MacBook Pro 2018 are identical, the hardware inside them has changed. The base model of the MacBook Pro 15-inch (2019) comes with a 2.6GHz 6-core 9th generation Intel Core i7 processor, Radeon Pro 555X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory, 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 RAM and 256GB SSD. There’s also a model with a 2.3GHz 8-core 9th generation Intel Core i9 processor, Radeon Pro 560X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory, 16GB DDR4 memory and 512GB SSD storage. This is the first time an octa-core processor has been included in a MacBook Pro, and gives the higher-end MacBook Pro 2019 some serious chops when it comes to multi-tasking. Meanwhile, the base model of the MacBook Pro 15-inch (2018) comes with a 2.6GHz 6-core 8th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Radeon Pro 555X GPU, 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 256GB SSD. The leap to 9th generation and boosted Radeon Pro graphics gives the 2019 base model a good bump in performance – but the 2018 model’s specifications are in no way underpowered. It remains a formidable laptop. As with the 2018 model, you can configure the 2019 MacBook Pro with more powerful components, including an 8th generation Intel Core i9 processor with 8 cores and a 2.4GHz clock speed (5.0Ghz boost), 32GB RAM and AMD Radeon Pro Vega 20 with 4GB of HBM2 memory. This makes it by far the most powerful MacBook ever made. If you’re simply after power, then there’s no contest: the high-end MacBook Pro 15-inch (2019) is the way to go. However, the 2018 model has enough power that it doesn’t feel outdated. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DMgWpF9aVeDBwWzvUjo239.jpg PriceThe good news is that for the US and Australia, the base model of the MacBook Pro 15-inch (2019) is the same as the 2018 model ($2,399/AU$3,499). That means you’re getting an improved processor and graphics card for no extra money than what you’d have paid last year. Meanwhile, the high-end model sells for $2,799 (£2,799, AU$4,099). That’s certainly a big chunk of change Apple is asking for. While the base model’s price remains the same in the US and Australia, in the UK it’s more expensive - £2,399 compared with the MacBook Pro 15-inch (2018)’s £2,349. Effectively, it means you’re paying £50 more for the improved hardware. If that seems a little unfair on the Brits, it’s because Apple has brought UK prices into line with US dollars, so for Apple, £1 = $1. With the base model of the MacBook Pro 15-inch (2019) staying the same, we imagine that the 2018 model will see a bit of a price drop. Considering that the 2018 model is still a very good laptop in its own right, it means you could get a fantastic deal on the 2018 model – making it a better value proposition. MacBook Pro 2019 vs MacBook Pro 2018: which one should I buy? In many ways the MacBook Pro 2019 and MacBook Pro 2018 are quite evenly matched. When it comes to design, you can pick either one without worrying that you’re missing out on any new features or design. The improved keyboard of the MacBook Pro 2019 means that if you’re concerned about spending vast sums of money on a laptop only to have a faulty keyboard, then that’s the model that could give you greater peace of mind. However, it’s worth noting that it’s still using the butterfly switches. If you want a whole new keyboard, you may have to wait for the rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro that could be coming later in 2019. Also, if getting the most powerful MacBook Pro is essential, then the MacBook Pro 15-inch (2019) is hands-down the one to get. However, if you’re looking for better value for money, you should see the 2018 model come down in price. The fact that the MacBook Pro 2018 is still a relatively recent laptop means even in 2019, you’re getting a powerful laptop with future-proof specifications. With a decent price cut, this could be the deciding feature when you’re comparing the MacBook Pro 2019 vs MacBook Pro 2018. The merger between T-Mobile and Sprint, the third- and fourth-biggest US carriers, just got approval from the US government today, clearing its biggest hurdle yet. Their consolidation, approved by the US Department of Justice, is worth $26 billion, according to CNBC, and dramatically changes the US mobile network landscape. This deal comes at pivotal time for for mobile carriers, as they all work to usher in the next stage in mobile networks: 5G. The merger will better position T-Mobile and Sprint to compete with leading carriers Verizon and AT&T, and will increase their ability to more quickly roll out 5G to their customers. Sprint has already begun to roll its 5G network out in Chicago, Kansas City, Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Houston, with more cities lined up. T-Mobile also has a growing 5G network in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, Cleveland and Atlanta. The merger will not only combines all of their pre-existing infrastructure, but it allow them to combine the spectrum available to offer more coverage across the country. Sprint's 2.5GHz spectrum and T-Mobile's 600MHz will lead this growth. Learn more about Sprint's 5G launch in ChicagoSee how fast 5G can be in our 5G speed testSee which 5G phones are availableDish Network to rise upThis won't leave the US with three major carriers. Part of the Department of Justice approval required T-Mobile and Sprint to spin off assets to form a new competitor. Dish Network will take over Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile and some of Sprint's other prepaid phone businesses, notes CNBC. Dish will also get access to 20,000 cell sites, hundreds of retail stores, and T-Mobile’s network for seven years. Further, Dish will get to buy off some of Sprint's 800MHz spectrum, letting it build some of its own network without relying entirely on T-Mobile's to grow. The deal will cost Dish Network $5 billion for the spectrum and all the other assets mentioned. Part of the deal Dish made will also require it to build out a 5G network by June of 2023 that covers 70% of the US population or face a fine of $2.2 billion. The deal isn't sealed just yetWhile the Department of Justice has signed off on the deal, there's still more to be done. Regulators still need to approve of the deal, which T-Mobile and Sprint expect to happen later this year. There's also the matter of a lawsuit from 13 state attorneys general, led by New York and California, challenging the merger. That lawsuit is presently set to go to court on October 7. T-Mobile CEO John Legere believes the states involved in the lawsuit will come around eventually, though it may take some extra concessions. iPhone 5G with an Apple modem closer to reality with $1 billion Intel dealhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/s8TBo7e1_-8

These days, just having a nice monitor isn't enough – you go big, or you go home. That may be why ultrawide monitors are becoming more and more popular. Ultrawide resolutions are already taking your computing experience to the extreme, so when we saw the BenQ EX3501R, a 3,440 x 1,440 monitor with HDR, we took notice. This is an absolutely amazing gaming monitor – though BenQ bills it as a 'video enjoyment monitor' – and with a USB-C input, and an amazing 2,500:1 contrast ratio, you'll be hard pressed to find anything not to like about this display. Well, at least until you look at the price tag. Fast 120Hz refresh rate? Also check. The AOC Agon AG352UCG6 Black Edition is definitely more than its clunky name lets on. This 3,440 x 1,440 ultrawide monitor isn't just gorgeous with its flawless VA panel, but with a 120Hz refresh rate and a low 4ms response time, it should be at the top of any gamer's list. Just keep in mind, that if you want to fully power this display, you're going to need a little help from something like the RTX 2080 Ti. The Alienware AW3418DW has been one of the best ultrawide monitors for years now. With an incredibly reliable, color accurate display and a high refresh rate, this Alienware gaming monitor has definitely earned its gaming classic label. And, the Asus Designo Curve MX38VC is an excellent example, offering excellent color accuracy, and a high resolution that'll be a boon to photo and video editors. At this price point, it would have been nice to see HDR included, but this gets the creative job done so well that we can easily look past that little flaw. One of the biggest downfalls of the best ultrawide monitors is that they tend to be on the expensive side. Sure, having an extremely wide screen is awesome, but if you can't drop a grand on a new display, you're out of luck. Fortunately, the LG 34UC79G-B is here to save the day on a budget. Now, this monitor doesn't have as high a resolution as some of the other options on this list, coming in at 2,560 x 1,080, but with the amount of cash you're saving, it almost doesn't even matter. Plus, you're getting FreeSync, too. Read the full review: LG 34UC79G-B Want to know how to build a PC?http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/rv9xh-J1jLk

QuakeCon is an annual celebration of all things Bethesda. Held in Dallas, Texas, the gaming convention sees thousands of Bethesda fans from around the globe gathering to hear the latest announcements about - and get their hands on - the developer’s most anticipated upcoming titles. But this year, parent company ZeniMax Media decided to include its European fans in the celebration by establishing the first ever QuakeCon Europe in London - a free public event that aims to bring the QuakeCon “vibe” to those outside North America. We attended QuakeCon Europe on its media day but found that, when it comes to capturing the essence of QuakeCon, there’s a lot to be desired in its European cousin. Quaking EuropeAs we mentioned before, QuakeCon Europe is a free public event. But, before you get carried away, it’s also a ticketed event and all the tickets have been claimed - that’s over one thousand tickets. Sorry. The European leg of the convention is being held in London’s famous Printworks, typically used for raves and special events. It’s a pretty huge venue but, with over one thousand people crammed in, it’s going to be a tight squeeze. That would be fine, but it doesn’t seem there are enough demo stations set up to accommodate that many attendees. In fact, on the day we attended, there didn’t seem like a huge amount to do full stop. While the Doom Eternal demo is the major draw for QuakeCon Europe (it is Year of Doom, after all), it’s arguably the biggest draw for the event. Other stations carry Rage 2 (with new DLC vehicles and boss), Quake Champions, Wolfenstein: Young Blood, Elder Scrolls Online, Elder Scrolls Legends, Blades on Switch, Fallout 76 and the Doom collection on Switch. However, some of these games are already out - or will be soon. It also simply doesn’t look like there’s enough space for over one thousand people to queue and - in London’s current heatwave - we’re not sure how inclined you would be to. What's on?Despite our concerns about the logistics of fitting one thousand Bethesda fans into the venue, and the lack of stations for that number, Bethesda has promised there will be plenty for fans to do on the public day such as activities and panels. We’re not quite sure what these activities will involve but the panel schedule is available to view online and involves streamed panels from the main QuakeCon event and live ones in the London venue. However, there are nowhere near the same number of events as the main QuakeCon boasts, nor is there the same emphasis on being a LAN party event. Despite its teething problems, QuakeCon Europe is still a fantastic opportunity for Bethesda fans who can’t quite reach Texas to feel like part of the community. Perhaps in later years the event will come into its own - there’s no denying the heart is there. Here's how battle mode will work in Doom Eternalhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/yUKnSUGYW3k

The MacBook Pro 2019 refresh is an upgrade from its 2018 predecessor, but there are still many MacBook users that are getting fed up with recent moves that Apple’s made. The Cupertino company has been releasing new MacBook Pros and other Apple devices faster than we can replenish our bank accounts. And, while some of these upgrades have resulted in better devices – hats off to you, Mac mini – many of them are falling a bit flat. These updates are all due to Apple changing the way it approached the MacBook Pro back in 2016, focusing on features that make one of the best Macs more accessible to everyday users by further streamlining the design. This is perhaps why Apple got rid of all the non-Thunderbolt 3 ports. And, the MacBook Pro is certainly a case of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. However, there are plenty of old-school Apple users that are being alienated by Apple’s latest design philosophy. To be fair, the MacBook Pro 2018 did benefit from a significant internal revamp, now rocking 8th-generation Coffee Lake processors and some of the fastest SSDs we’ve seen to date, giving it unprecedented speed. Additionally, Apple has improved the display with True Tone tech, as well as fixed the issues with the Butterfly keyboard – or some of them at least. It did all that while maintaining the impressive battery levels of the 2017 model. As of July 2019, these are true as well for the 13-inch MacBook Pro entry-level model, which – thanks to a recent refresh – now touts the 8th-generation Intel Core i5 chip, True Tone Retina display and the improved keyboard – not to mention the Touch Bar, Touch ID and Apple’s T2 security chip. Even better, Apple has also released 15-inch MacBook Pro configurations that tout the latest 8-core Intel Core i9, Intel’s latest 9th generation processor (CPU). These configurations are now Apple’s top-of-the-line MacBook Pros, the cheapest of which supports the 2.3GHz 8‑core 9th‑generation Intel Core i9 (Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz) CPU with 16GB memory (RAM), a Radeon Pro 560X graphics (GPU) and 512GB SSD storage at $2,799 (£2,699, A$4,099). What do these latest improvements mean for the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 we've also been anticipating? Recent rumors have reinforced the possibility of a true redesign gracing us with its presence this year, perhaps alongside the new Mac Pro 2019. However, Apple might opt to roll out a completely new model in 2020 or 2021. Regardless, the true MacBook Pro 2019 could still happen, especially because the 12-inch MacBook was recently dropped from the lineup. Famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has produced some leaks that suggest Apple is going to release a 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 with an “all-new” design, and that could still happen this year. Plus, we’re still keeping our fingers crossed they’ll give that still-pesky keyboard a redesign, and recent reports are looking good in that regard. If the completely overhauled MacBook Pro 2019 is still in the works, here are the things we’re hoping to see. Cut to the chaseWhat is it? The first-ever 16-inch MacBook ProWhen is it out? Possibly late 2019How much will it cost? Reports say around $3,000 (about £2,450, AU$4,350)http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/JFmRWaXLQy8bj9HfHbAXMA.jpg Image Credit: Apple MacBook Pro 2019 release dateWhile a 2019 follow-up redesign to the MacBook Pro (as well as the Mac Pro) is still something many Apple fans are looking forward to, there’s only a vague "2019" rumored release date at this time. That’s hardly a surprise since the last major update came out in July 2018, and Apple just dropped its 9th-gen Intel Core CPU configurations and a 13-inch MacBook Pro July 2019 refresh. Still, it would be curious to see macOS Catalina in an overhauled MacBook Pro. We might need to wait a few more months for a clearer date, or even a confirmation that it will happen, but rumors and reports are piling up. If we’re going by Apple’s previous release dates – with the MacBook Pro 2017 launching in June 2017 and the MacBook Pro 2018 model debuting under the radar in July 2018 – a summer release for the MacBook Pro 2019 made sense. We must consider that, after Intel announced the 10nm Ice Lake chips at CES 2019 for a late 2019 release date, and Apple's macOS Catalina is set for a fall release – not to mention the fact that it just gave the 15-inch model a 9th-gen refresh and the 13-inch model an 8th-gen and Touch Bar refresh. With these two factors in mind, we could see Apple release the MacBook Pro somewhere around then to take advantage of the new tech and operating system update immediately. The possibility of a redesigned MacBook Pro in 2019 is shaky still, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed. We'll be keeping a close eye on Apple's forgone iPhone event in September – if not, we could be looking at an October or even November launch of this 16-inch MacBook Pro. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/WxgNeEyVo27hwGMeKyGoGa.jpg Image Credit: TechRadar MacBook Pro 2019 priceJust the fact that Apple has refreshed its non-Touch Bar MacBook Pros this July 2019 to boast a higher processor, a better keyboard, and the Touch Bar and Touch ID features says a lot about the direction in which they’re going. The worst part of the 2019 models is the fact that you need to spend thousands of dollars to secure the highest amount of RAM (the 32GB RAM option is only available to the 15-inch models) and the largest SSD combo. Otherwise, you’re stuck with smallest amount of RAM and a Touch Bar that isn’t even universally compatible. You can also forget about upgrading your 13-inch. The majority of its parts are soldered, so you’ll be forced to bring in a professional and break your warranty. You also may have to buy a third-party docking station since the only ports available to you are the USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports and a headphone jack. Of course, it’s hard to predict these things, but you’ll probably see more of the same price tags. Currently, the base model of a 13-inch MacBook Pro gets you an 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, 128GB SSD storage and the integrated Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645. The good news is that this entry level 13-inch model sticks with the same price tag at $1,299 (£1,299, AU$1,999), despite its recent upgrades. As far as the 15-inch’s 9th gen Intel Core i9 configurations, which currently start at $2,399 (£2,399, A$3,499), we’d like to keep its price while still getting its design refresh. A Chinese technology site has recently reported the 16-inch MacBook Pro to start around $3,000 (about £2,450, AU$4,350). Later, analyst Ming Chi-Kuo reported improvements to the keyboard with a new scissor switch design. It may seem outlandish to you, but but "$2,999" sounds like a fine price for Apple to go with. Check out our guide on how to reset a MacBook Prohttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/SbHerefqdwAgs5RnWoBE9m.jpg Image Credit: Apple What we want to see from MacBook Pro 2019Apple hasn’t been getting a lot of love lately, what with the great keyboard debacle of 2016 through 2019, the problematic Touch Bar and the soldered RAM, to name a few. However, we’re still hoping that Apple takes a new lease on life in 2019, and actually offer its loyal fans some of the things they need and not upsell them on things they don’t need. And, so far, it does look promising. More port variety, please If Apple’s going to insist on sticking with only Thunderbolt 3, at least include a docking station or an adapter for USB, Mini DisplayPort and HDMI without an additional charge. You know, instead of making us shell out more money for a third-party one. Though if we’re really being honest, limiting us to Thunderbolt 3 is inconvenient. MacBook Pro is for professionals who are looking for a seamless workflow. Yes, the Thunderbolt 3 is efficient, powerful and versatile, offering a port for charging as well as super fast output and data transfers. But many of us are still using devices and accessories that don’t support it. If we’re expected to connect this cable to that adapter to plug in to that other port, Apple cannot expect us to be happy about it. And, is it possible to bring back MagSafe charging? Some of us tend to trip over those cables, and it was nice to know that we wouldn’t damage those older models by doing so. Seeing as how Apple launched the latest MacBook Air with just two Thunderbolt 3 ports and no MagSafe charger, chances are slim that Apple is going to diversify the ports on the MacBook Pro 2019. So, what we’re really gunning for now is a docking station or an adapter out of the box. Improved Touch Bar When it comes to the new Touch Bar, it seems that Apple is standing its ground. In fact, every single current MacBook Pro model and configuration now has it. Despite grievances from many users and the fact that many others would be happier without it, Apple has completely phased out the non-Touch Bar MacBook Pros. That’s all fine and dandy, and, we admit, the technology is promising. However, if Apple is going to ask for a few hundred bucks for a new feature, we’d like to maximize its use. So far, Touch Bar compatibility is only limited to a few programs and apps, and we demand to see more added to this list if it’s here to stay. Plus, it would be nice to get it properly working sans the freezes and fat finger issues. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/PybBraxiRTsHBPiDR5mxXP.jpg Image Credit: TechRadar Offer an alternative Again, the Touch Bar shows promise, but it isn’t exactly something that most users need. Not all of us are photographers or filmmakers or artists. Some use just use their MacBook Pros for productivity because of its streamlined interface and user-friendliness, and those folks – the mainstream consumers that Apple is now starting to include in their target market – don’t have a need for a Touch Bar at all. In fact, it might only get in the way and cost them extra for something they’ll hardly use. We’d like to see an option for such users. We’d like Apple to resuscitate the Touch Bar-free models, and price them cheaper than their Touch Bar counterparts. Better keyboard, display and sound Sure, Apple has refined the keyboard so that it’s quieter, but it’s still stiffer than what we’re used to, has less travel than most keyboards and still annoyingly loud. As far as ergonomics, the new keyboard isn’t the best. It’s not that we hate it, but it’s certainly harder to love. Of course, we could get used to its quirks, but we’d rather see a better one, especially since we’re already paying a lot. Better yet, Apple could bring back the old design most of us are partial to, which now seems likely. In addition, MacBook Pro designers should take cues from the iPhone X and phase out the bezeled design. That’s a lot of valuable real estate wasted, and rolling out a bezel-free screen will give users a bigger display without having to sacrifice size. Additionally, by going bezel-free, it’ll give the update a fresher, more modern look. Also, a laptop designed to edit 4K media should have a 4K screen option – though, we're hearing that 3K is going to be this laptop's game. And, while Apple’s at it, we’d like to see it reconsider those speakers. We get that Apple is going for a thinner design, but the speakers in the older MacBook Pros are considerably better. With all that technology they come up with, it wouldn’t be that hard to get a premium set of speakers that are louder and have better bass. New Intel processor The MacBook Pro 2018 just got updated with Kaby Lake Refresh and Coffee Lake on the 13-inch, and with the 9th-generation chips on the 15-inch. Unfortunately, Intel has already pushed out Whiskey Lake and Amber Lake processors – putting some of the MacBook Pro configurations behind the curve, if only just barely. Whiskey Lake, after all, only provides a minimal boost to performance that most users won’t notice. At CES 2019, however, Intel announced Ice Lake, its first round of 10nm Sunny Cove processors for laptops. These chips have already begun shipment, and we’re hoping that Apple already has plans to include these next-gen CPUs in the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019. If (and, hopefully, when) that happens, we’d like to see Apple offering both 9th-gen and 10th-gen configurations, as well as awarding one of its 13-inch model a 9th-gen Coffee Lake Refresh configuration. Bethesda has officially confirmed that the original Doom games - Doom, Doom II and Doom III - will be coming to Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4 and mobile platforms. The trio of games made their unexpected arrival first this morning, and were later confirmed by Bethesda VP Pete Hines at the company’s annual QuakeCon conference. Check out the best PC gamesCheck out the best Nintendo Switch gamesAll three games have been available on other platforms in the past - most recently on Xbox 360 through the Xbox Games Marketplace - but now are available on modern consoles and mobile app stores for $4.99/£4 in the case of Doom and Doom II. What separates these remastered versions from the Doom ports you’ve played before is that the original games come with four-player deathmatch and co-op, plus the Episode IV: Thy Flesh Consumed expansion that includes nine extra levels, and the Master Levels add-on for Doom II. The Doom III remaster will cost a bit more ($9.99/£8) and include the base game plus the Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Missions expansion packs - however it's only available on consoles and won’t be available on mobile devices. All the games are available on their respective platforms starting today. Here's our hands-on Doom Eternal previewhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/StVJkelTtmw

id Software has revealed further details on how the upcoming Doom Eternal's multiplayer battle mode will work. During the QuakeCon 2019 livestream, id Software explained how battle mode will pack in "tonnes of drama" - much like Doom Eternal's single-player campaign mode. The premise of battle mode is 2v1, with one player taking on the role of the Demonslayer and the other two taking on the role of demons. But how exactly will battle mode work? Read on to find out more. Here's what we learnthttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/AJZQz9STsMMVhnLcGjKySo.jpg Doom Eternal's battle mode will have six unique maps at launch, each designed to allow the Doomslayer and demons to partake in a hellish game of cat and mouse. These arenas include portals, monkey bars and jump pads to make play as dynamic as possible - and fun obviously. But what demons are available for you to play as? At launch, there will be five playable demons: the Revenant, Pain Elemental, Mancubus, Marauder and Arch-vile. Each demon has its own particular abilities, strengths and weaknesses to harness against the Doomslayer. While some are more hard-hitting, others focus on stealth. id Software emphasises that it's important for the playable demons to work together to best the Doomslayer, as a demon alone is an easy target for the BFG. When it comes to the Doomslayer themselves, you'll be fully-loaded with all mods available. Like in the single-player campaign, you will need to manage spawning demons as well as resources - not to mention your player foes. As the demons it is your job to kill the Doomslayer to win, while the Doomslayer has a harder task at hand. The Doomslayer must kill both playable demons, but this is where it gets tricky: When you kill one demon, they have the chance to respawn after a certain amount of time if you don't kill the other within that time limit. If a demon does respawn, it will do so with half health. Between rounds, players will be able to upgrade their demons and Doomslayer to make things a bit more difficult - like it wasn't already, From what we've seen, battle mode certainly looks like it will be a blast and we can't wait to get our hands on it. UPDATE: Wu Assassins and Mindhunter: season 2 will be arriving this month – find out more about them on the next two slides. Netflix has changed the way we engage with television shows and movies forever, giving us the most convenient way to experience both from the comfort of our living rooms, laptop screens or smartphones. With a rapidly growing library of shows on the service and a huge lineup of projects in the works, we've put together a list of the best upcoming TV shows and movies on Netflix for 2018 and beyond. The shows and films on this list have been hand-picked based on how excited we are for them, meaning that it's not intended to be a complete release schedule. Instead, consider it our curated list of the coolest looking Netflix Originals currently in the works. We've also included upcoming seasons of already established shows which we're really eager to see. So without further ado, these are the best TV shows and movies coming soon to Netflix. How to become a Netflix masterHow to pick the best Netflix subscription for youWanting to watch from abroad? Then you need the best Netflix VPN Arguably the hottest actor in martial arts cinema right now thanks to his starring turns in The Raid films, not to mention his supporting turns in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mile 22 and Stuber, Iko Uwais has signed with Netflix for a 10-part series that takes place in San Francisco's Chinatown district. Uwais plays an aspiring chef who becomes an assassin tasked with restoring balance among the ancient triads that rule city. In case you need more convincing, Uwais will also act as the lead fight choreographer and stunt co-ordinator on the show, which also stars Byron Mann (Altered Carbon) and Mark Dacascos (John Wick: Chapter 3), with John Wirth (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; Falling Skies) acting as showrunner. A trailer for the show has finally arrived, and while it looks a little corny in a Bulletproof Monk kind of way, the fight scenes definitely look the business. You can check out the trailer below. Release date: August 8, 2019 Based on the true crime book from former FBI agent John Douglas (he was the real-life basis for the character of Jack Crawford in Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter books), Mindhunter lifts the lid on the founding of the Bureau's behavioural sciences department, which is known for profiling serial killers. Featuring direction from visionary director David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club, Zodiac), the first season became an instant hit amongst those who revel in dark subject matter. Now, the second season is almost upon us, and will see the team work on the infamous Atlanta Child Murders case of the 1970s. They'll also meet and profile more famous murderers, including Charles Manson and David 'Son of Sam' Berkowitz, which should provide more than a few hair-raising moments. Release date: August 16, 2019 One of the most anticipated new shows arriving on Netflix this year is the first live-action adaptation of The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Said to be based more closely on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's books rather than the games that made the series internationally famous, the show still nails the look and feel of CD Projekt Red's beloved RPGs. With a huge budget, massive sets and terrific VFX, Netflix's The Witcher could be the streaming service's own Game of Thrones if it plays its cards right. You can check out the show's first official trailer below. Release date: 2019 From Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) comes the brand new Netflix Original animated GitS series, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045. Not much else is known about the new series, other than it marks the return of Major Motoko Kusanagi (whose new look for the show can be seen above) and that it will debut sometime in 2020. Release date: 2020 Saddle up, space cowboys, because Spike Spiegel and crew will return in a brand new, live action Cowboy Bebop series from Netflix! We don't know much about it as yet, though it has been confirmed that series creator Shinichiro Watanabe will be involved as a consultant on the show. The original show followed a band of misfit bounty hunters, each haunted by their own past, as they travelled the galaxy trying to keep food in their bellies. Packed with incredibly action, amazing style and lovable characters, Cowboy Bebop is ripe for further adventures – provided Netflix can stick the landing. Christopher L. Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) will write the new series, while Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg will act as showrunners. Release date: TBA Exciting news for fans of Martin Scorsese's classic gangster films – the director is bringing The Irishman to Netflix in 2018, and Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel and Al Pacino (working with the filmmaker for the very first time) are all along for the ride. The Irishman follows a mob hitman (De Niro) as he recalls his possible involvement in the murder of Jimmy Hoffa, and is based on the best-selling book by Charles Brandt. If you're a film buff and aren't excited about this, you may need to check your pulse. Release date: 2019 http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/uLkSFePxBWM

If rumors of the second generation EOS M5 and EOS M6 snappers launching on August 28 are true, we may be seeing a compact mirrorless camera with a pretty remarkable spec sheet. Canon Rumors has managed to lay their hands on a batch of specs for the potential EOS M6 Mark II and, if there’s any truth to them, the Japanese manufacturer will be introducing us to brand new sensor technology to help improve the camera’s dynamic range. The M6 II is rumored to boast a 32.5 APS-C CMOS sensor working alongside a Digic 8+ image processor. If this comes to pass, that would be an improvement over the original M6’s 24.2MP sensor and Digic 7 engine. Continuous shooting will also likely see an improvement of the previous 7fps burst speed to a rather impressive 16fps. We’ll also likely see a jump in the electronic shutter’s speed from a meagre 1/4000th of a second to a lightning 1/16000 second. 10 best mirrorless cameras available in 2019What to look out for when buying a mirrorless camera10 best cameras in Canon’s stableIt’s all about videoWhere the original M6 only had 1080p video capabilities, the second generation model is rumored to arrive with uncropped 4K recording at up to 30fps. If you thought that was the only marked improvement to the old spec sheet, think again. The M6 Mark II will also apparently get brand new modes dedicated to selfies and vlogging. In addition to those, there’s said to be a new Movie Picture Style, but the M6 II won’t come with Canon Log (which is a standard part of the camera maker’s EOS Cinema range designed to capture more details in shadows and bright areas of the frame – aka the dynamic range). It has also been suggested that Canon may improve image stabilization for smoother video recording. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oz4BvnhWe4VoqgaUEY85FK.jpg Everything else in betweenDual Pixel autofocus is a part of Canon’s, well, canon and the original M6 did take advantage of the technology, so we’re quite sure it will find its way into the Mark II as well. Eye detect and tracking may also be a possibility but that is pure speculation at the moment. The leaked specs suggest the M6 will support an external viewfinder and charging the camera will be via USB-C. All this, though, is unconfirmed, as is the possible launch date, so do take this with a large pinch of salt. If, however, any of these specs are true, the EOS M6 Mark II does seem like it will outdo its predecessor in every way. Apple is on its way to making a 5G iPhone with its own modem thanks to today's $1 billion acquisition of a majority of Intel's smartphone modem business. It's another way in which Apple will assert end-to-end control over its devices. The Apple-Intel deal will see approximately 2,200 Intel employees join Apple, along with all-important intellectual property, equipment and leases, according to today's official announcement. In the end, Apple will hold a combined 17,000 wireless technology patents. Despite what you may read, TechRadar isn't anticipating an Apple-made 5G modem inside the iPhone 11 or the iPhone 2020 – even the iPhone 2021 sounds far-fetched. The announcement marks the beginning of monumental task ahead for Apple. There will almost certainly be a 5G iPhone in the interim. Apple, after all, does have a six-year agreement with 5G modem supplier and chip maker Qualcomm. That's how the 2020 iPhone will likely give Apple fans their first taste of 5G speeds. When will Apple launch an iPhone 5G? With today's news, Apple will be able to wean itself off of the Qualcomm modem that is in many previous-generation iPhones and expedite the development of its own 5G smartphone modem, which is something Intel had struggled to do on its own. Currently, the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR all have 4G LTE with Intel modems and that's not expected to change with the forthcoming iPhone 11 series. Some iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X models have Qualcomm modem chips. Apple and Qualcomm agreed to stop suing each other back in April (and Apple had to pay Qualcomm a hefty multi-million-dollar fine in the end). Today's deal is likely more than just bad blood. Apple has had a habit of bringing tech in-house when it can – we expect Apple-designed ARM-based MacBook chips in 2021, too. A series of 5G iPhone rumors point to the first iteration launching in 2020. And yet this Apple-Intel deal won't close until the fourth quarter of 2019, leaving the Apple less than a year to turnaround a 5G iPhone modem. It doesn't give Apple very much time to develop its own modem, never mind a 5G version that competes with the Qualcomm modem chip already inside the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G. So it may still have to license modems from Qualcomm. We've reached out to both Apple and Qualcomm for comment on the situation. Three has announced its 5G pricing in the UK, and the good news is it won't cost you any more than its current "contract, SIM only and PAYG 4G mobile plans." That means it will be cheaper than EE, which charges a premium for its 5G contracts, and there are no speed caps - something Vodafone has introduced with its new unlimited plans which cover you for 4G and 5G. However, both EE and Vodafone have their 5G networks available right now (albeit in limited areas for now). Three will also offer a 5G unlimited data SIM only plan which will cost £22 per month, however one cost you will have to brunt is that of a 5G-enabled smartphone. From today, July 26, you'll be able to buy the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G from Three, and it joins Sky Mobile and Carphone Warehouse as the first UK retailers to sell the handset after carriers temporarily removed it from their line-ups in the wake of the Huawei ban. Three has also confirmed that it will stock the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G "within the coming month." 5G: everything you need to knowAll the 5G phones available right nowWhen will Three launch its 5G network? The big question which remains unanswered however, is just when will Three start to roll out its mobile 5G network? We know it will starting rolling out the service for mobile broadband in August, but the closet 5G release date we've had so far for smartphones is "later this year." When it does arrive though, Three could offer a huge amount of coverage versus its competitors, saying it'll arrive "across 25 cities" - although it's not clear whether they'll all get coverage from day one. Welcome to our picks for the best mesh Wi-Fi routers of 2019. Unlike traditional wireless routers, which are typically single receivers that reside in one room and broadcast Wi-Fi throughout the rest of your home, the best mesh Wi-Fi routers comprise a number of units that you can strategically place around your home or office, ensuring that there's uniformly strong Wi-Fi signal throughout your space. Using the best mesh Wi-Fi routers and placing several nodes in key areas of your home, you’ll get a solid, unified Wi-Fi network no matter where you are. This is different from how Wi-Fi extenders work, which only take the Wi-Fi signal from the best wireless routers and repeat it, just extending the range of the original router. The problem with this approach however is that it requires a separate SSID for the extender, as you’re just creating a second network. This can be a pain, as your device won't automatically switch to the different network. Also, filling your home up with multiple Wi-Fi networks can negatively impact network performance. The best mesh Wi-Fi routers can be easy to set up. Simply connect the main unit to your internet connection. Then with a few button presses, pair up the other units, resulting in one large – not to mention, fast – Wi-Fi network. Bear in mind that the best mesh Wi-Fi routers can be on the pricey side, and can require some technical skill in order to figure out what’s the best option for your home. Lucky for you though, we have you covered. We went ahead and picked out the best mesh Wi-Fi routers that we’ve been fortunate enough to test and review. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/CyxQokopDE2HHKoED7FjUd.jpg We’re not exaggerating when we say the Google Wifi isn’t just one of the best mesh Wi-Fi routers we’ve ever used. In fact, we’d go so far as to say that it might be the best wireless router, hands down. Not only does it have the power to push fast Wi-Fi throughout your home – an even more impressive feat considering how tiny it is – but it’s also not that expensive and easy to set up at the same time. Seriously, all you have to do to set up Google Wifi is download an app to your smartphone, scan some QR codes and just place the nodes where around your house. It couldn’t be easier – Google has mastered the router game… It’s almost unfair. Read the full review: Google Wifi http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Ztqhey7YjZVMKoKU8o4dwS.jpg If you can drop the cash for it, then the Netgear Orbi might be one of the best mesh Wi-Fi routers you can buy in 2019. Instead of something like the Google Wifi, which uses three identical nodes to create your network, you’ll receive one main router, plus a collection of satellite nodes to plug into power outlets around your home. Additionally, because of the sheer number of Ethernet ports found on the Orbi, it’s a fantastic option for anyone who has a bunch of devices that need a hardwired connection – not to mention, it might be the best choice for anyone who uses their network primarily for gaming, especially across multiple devices. Read the full review: Netgear Orbi http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qJstUmCAiPtGiBYvqxZVGM.jpg If you’re looking for a way to spread Wi-Fi throughout your home, but want to save a few bucks in the process, you’ll want to take a closer look at the TP-Link Deco M5. It may not be as fast as some of the other best mesh Wi-Fi routers on this list, but if you’re not necessarily worried about getting the maximum theoretical throughput – which you likely wouldn’t be able to take full advantage of anyway – it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Setup, much like the other devices here, is a breeze, even if you’re not tech-savvy. The TP-Link Deco M5 might be one of the best wireless mesh routers for anyone who doesn’t want to get too technical. Read the full review: TP-Link Deco M5 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/mrJxiBKZyvVccnpy5F3yFA.jpg If you’re the kind of person who loves Apple’s design philosophy and likes having chic gadgets set up around your home, without paying much attention to the price – the Ubiquiti Amplifi HD is the perfect gadget for you. You’ll find a lot to like here, especially if you live in a large home and can take advantage of the full power that this mesh Wi-Fi setup offers, as it’s capable of a very large amount of throughput. You might find that the value diminishes quite a bit when you live in a smaller space however, since there are more cost-effective methods available for small to medium homes. And, the Ubiquiti Amplifi HD may be expensive. Still, you’re paying for a piece of tech that has both style and substance – and that is more than enough, making this a great addition to the best wireless mesh routers list. Read the full review: Ubiquiti Amplifi HD http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/PskQwQaEs3g7iY9rrW4CS4.jpg Though it’s expensive and not quite as powerful as the rest of the Wi-Fi mesh routers, there’s something to be said about the simplicity that the Linksys Velop offers. It may come with a heftier price than the competition, but the Velop will appeal to people who need to set up a Wi-Fi network but want to avoid, well, setting it up. More tech-savvy users will probably look elsewhere – why spend the money when you can do the work yourself for free? For most people, though, the Linksys Velop is among the best mesh Wi-Fi routers. It’s also fully modular, so you only need to pick up as many nodes as you actually need – one node will cover up to 2,000 square feet. Microsoft has accidentally leaked a redesigned Start menu, and it seems that the same preview build of Windows 10 also contains an all-new Control Center interface – and given the appearance of these streamlined UI elements, we might just be getting an interesting glimpse of how Windows Lite could shape up. As mentioned, Microsoft accidentally released a preview build of Windows 10 for the 20H1 update (destined to land in the first half of next year) to testers, when it should have only been used internally. This is how Microsoft’s dual-screen laptop might improve its displaysBuy Windows 10: the cheapest prices in July 2019Windows 10 May 2019 Update problems: how to fix themAnd this build 18947 carried a new stripped-back Start menu with a simpler layout and no Live Tiles – something that was rumored to be part of the redesign for Windows Lite, Microsoft’s lightweight spin of its OS that’s far less resource-heavy, not to mention cleaner and simpler in terms of its interface. Windows Latest subsequently stumbled upon a denizen of Twitter – Rafael Rivera, a Microsoft MVP – who did some digging with this preview build, and managed to enable a revamped Control Center by editing the Registry. Shedding some Lite on the matterAnd as you can see, the layout of this Control Center is similar to the boiled-down Start menu, leading to speculation about whether these UI elements are all part of the puzzle for Windows Lite. The new Control Center is accessed from the taskbar, where it can be pulled upwards to expand it, and offer quick access to various different functions such as your network settings, night light, and so forth. Notifications will appear directly above this panel, apparently. Note that this is obviously still in a very early internal testing stage, and shouldn’t have been released to the testing public. None of the Control Center functions work yet, and of course the appearance is likely to be a rough, early state – but we can get a general idea of what Microsoft might be aiming at here. As to whether we will see either of these elements in full-fat Windows 10 next year in some form, or indeed in Windows Lite when it emerges, we can’t be sure of anything here. As ever, Microsoft might just be playing with ideas that could get dropped as the year progresses.
