  1. Every customer connected to Virgin Media’s cable network will have access to gigabit broadband speeds from 2021, it has been confirmed. More than one million people will have access before the end of 2019, with Southampton – which has hosted trials of the technology - one of the first locations to get the upgrade. More cities will be added over the coming months and years. Crucially, customers will not have to have any physical line upgrades to enable the new speeds, which Virgin Media says will help meet growing customer demand for data-intensive applications such as cloud gaming, 4K and 8K streaming, and Virtual Reality. Virgin Media trials 8Gbps broadbandOpenreach CEO: Boris Johnson's 2025 fibre goal is a 'stretch'Virgin Media could open up network to rivalsVirgin Media 1Gbps“This is a giant digital leap forward for the UK,” said Lutz Schüler, Virgin Media CEO. “Virgin Media has been the unparalleled speed leader for many years. Very soon, for the first time ever, millions of people right across the country will be able to experience hyperfast and reliable gigabit internet connections thanks to the latest technology and the power of our network. “This upgrade plan will see gigabit speeds rolled out at an unrivalled pace right across the country, bringing our customers the future-proof connections of tomorrow.” http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Uwm7h78Mf2fh4gHimWfUEN.jpg Virgin Media says the upgrades will help meet growing customer demand for data-intensive applications, such as cloud gaming, 4K and 8K streaming, and Virtual Reality, while also enabling business use cases such as telepresence and remote health services. The network upgrade and expansion programme is designed to maintain speed advantage that Virgin Media has over other providers – at least for the time being – and to increase competition in areas served by the Openreach wholesale network used by the likes of BT, Sky and TalkTalk. The company has embarked on major network upgrade and expansion projects over the past few years as it looks to up its speeds across the country, which along with consumer use cases will also enable business use cases such as telepresence and remote health services. It has rolled out DOCSIS 3.1 technology across its existing cable infrastructure and hopes to increase its footprint to around 17 million homes and businesses once the £3 billion ‘Project Lightning’ is completed. Earlier this year, Virgin Media successfully trialled 8Gbps in Cambridgeshire. “This represents a key step in future proofing its cable network infrastructure,” said Paolo Pescatore, an analyst with PP Foresight. “This is a sensible move as telcos margins are being squeezed. Therefore, they need to be much smarter with their network investments. “Arguably, this move should have come sooner but will bring about plentiful benefits to Virgin Media customers for potentially a few quid more.” It has been speculated that parent company Liberty Global is seeking investor partners for a joint-venture to invest in Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) technology across the UK. This follows earlier rumours that Liberty is concerned that investments made by other providers in FTTP might erode its long-standing speed advantage and that a move into wholesale - a market that offers lower margins but also presents an opportunity for greater market share - would be a more optimal strategy. 2. Netflix recently announced its specially crafted mobile-only plan for the Indian consumers. The new plan is priced at ₹199 which is the most affordable Netflix has ever been. Taking this aggressive pricing at the forefront, the streaming giant wants to reach the hands of a college student or a home-maker in every tier-2 city of India. And with more than 13 Originals films and nine series in development, the company doesn’t seem to be backing out anytime soon. The mobile-only plan is a result of the audience findings which revealed that Indians watch more content on their phones more than anywhere in the world. Lo and behold! The new Mobile plan that costs as much as ₹199 (~$2.90) and allows streaming and download in SD (480p). Let’s take a look at all the Netflix plans available in India. Read more: Netflix's mobile-only streaming plan kicks off in India, as the world watchesNetflix India subscription plans 2019http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/feytywZ322TSUk9bDB7GiS.jpg Netflix currently has four subscription plans in its Indian roster-- Mobile, Basic, Standard and Premium. New users can continue to avail a month of free service by signing up and the fee will be deducted from second month onwards. Netflix Mobile plan: The base and the most affordable plan costs ₹199 and lets a viewer stream and download movies and shows in SD. This plan only allows single-screen streaming at any given time with no support for screencasting. Netflix Basic plan: The difference between mobile-only and basic plan is that with the latter, a viewer can stream Netflix on their laptops or TVs, though in standard definition. It is priced at ₹499. Netflix Standard plan: At ₹649, this plan offers HD (1080p) viewing on two screens simultaneously, in addition to the same set of features as the basic plan. Netflix Premium plan: The maxed out Netflix subscription costs ₹799 and offers UHD (4K) streaming on four screens at the same time. Which Netflix plan should I subscribe to?So with four plans, it boils down to how you access Netflix daily. If you enjoy binge-watching shows on your smartphone, the mobile-only plan is tailor-made for you. Not only is the Netflix mobile app more optimized, but it also has speedier loading time. But if you are someone who takes pleasure in watching a Netflix Original on a big screen such as laptop or TV, the Standard plan will be the best option. This plan also supports casting to Netflix supported televisions from phones or tablets. Having said that, the best option is perhaps to share the cost of the Premium plan, split across four ways. That makes it ₹200 per month. The trick, however, is to find those remaining three people! 3. Samsung is heavily rumored to be introducing a new smartwatch on August 7, but the company is spending some of its time improving one of its existing smartwatches too, with a new update to the Galaxy Watch Active. This is one of the biggest updates we’ve seen to the existing smartwatch that launched in February this year, bringing a host of new features alongside the inevitable tweaks and stability fixes. Automatic swim tracking is one of the big features that you can expect to see in the update if you’re into fitness. It should allow you to automatically keep an eye on your laps of the pool without manually having to start a workout. Our full Samsung Galaxy Watch Active reviewWhat to know about Galaxy Watch Active 2Every Samsung watch available right nowWhen using the Galaxy Watch Active you currently have to rotate your finger around the screen to be able to cycle through the apps available to you. This is because it has similar software to the Galaxy Watch, but the Watch Active doesn’t feature the rotating bezel, so instead Samsung opted for this to interact with it. The upcoming update will see Samsung change the UI so you can swipe left or right to see a whole new menu of apps right in front of you. That means you won’t have to spin through the apps you don’t want to see in order to get to the one you need to find. That should make it an easier device to use, and Samsung has promised some improvements to Bixby too. According to Samsung, Bixby will now allow you to “Get tasks done easily thanks to Bixby's more task-oriented interaction capabilities.” That seems to be similar to what we’ve previously used the Galaxy Watch Active for, but it looks like it may be a more useful piece of tech after this update. Other new features include a way to simplify your watch's UI at night, called Goodnight Mode. The idea here is that the interface is simplified to just the time to make it easier to read if you wake up in the middle of the night. Worried about your heart rate dropping low? This update will now bring customizable updates, so you can be notified when your heart rate has dropped below a certain level. The final improvement is to the company's breathe feature, which is said to be easier to access, although we don't currently know exactly how that will work. The update is rolling out from now so you may soon get it on the watch, but there's no specific release date for each region. 4. Samsung’s flagships usually impress on the camera front, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 range likely will be no exception, with the latest rumors pointing to ‘Smart ISO’ and ‘AI-ISO’. These two terms were trademarked on July 23, 2019, then spotted by LetsGoDigital, and while the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 wasn’t specifically named in the trademarks, this close to its August 7 launch there’s a high chance that these features are intended for the phone. But what exactly is ‘Smart ISO’ or ‘AI-ISO’? Well, we can mostly only speculate for now, but from the names it sounds like the ISO would be AI-powered, likely allowing it to adjust automatically based on what you’re shooting, and potentially meaning that it can learn your preferences over time, so the phone is better able to automatically select an ISO you’re happy with. The iPhone 11 is also coming soonAs is the Google Pixel 4The Note 10 might join the ranks of 5G phonesISO is the measure of how sensitive the camera sensor is, which is useful for 'seeing' extra light or colors. That could particularly help improve low light shots, where a higher ISO than you might normally select can be beneficial. LetsGoDigital additionally speculates that this focus on ISO might mean that the Galaxy Note 10 range will offer a larger ISO range than the 50-800 offered by the Samsung Galaxy S10 range. That’s a believable theory, given that rival handsets such as the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium and Huawei P30 have a far larger range, but it’s just speculation for now. Regardless, with other rumors pointing to the Galaxy Note 10 Plus having five rear cameras, the standard Note 10 having three, and both phones having all sorts of new features and improvements, they should have snappers worth shooting with. We’ll know for sure soon, as we're expecting Samsung's next range of devices to launch on August 7. 5. The stand-up scooters, powered by electric motors, have been banned in Dubai but a Dubai-based start-up is revving up to launch its first electric scooters, designed and developed in the UAE, by the end of September. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has banned the stand-up scooters from sidewalks in a bid to reduce the threat to pedestrians and eventually introduce new laws governing the form of transport. Despite the ban, some people are still using the stand-up electric scooters, priced from AED1,200, on the sidewalks to avoid the walk in the hot sun. Big savingsAdam Ridgway, CEO of One Moto, told TechRadar Middle East in an exclusive that he and his partner in the UK have been developing electric scooters – Electa for commuter (a vintage model of Vespa), Byka for delivery market and the Commuta (more designed for the European market). There are also two Emiratis as partners. “We intend to change the landscape of logistics delivery. We have designed these bikes and we also have a range of parcel delivery vehicles planned for next year. Ridgway believes that there are around 12,000 bikes on the UAE road and the average cost of a petrol bike is between AED 8,000 and AED 11,000 and the cost of the delivery box above that. “If an average rider travels around 100km a day, he spends on average of around AED 7,500 on fuel every year and AED 150 for servicing and the maintenance cost, apart from queuing up at petrol stations. So, the average investment comes to around AED 25,000 for the first year. No Salik and registration feesThe biggest advantage of an electric bike, Ridgway said is that a user doesn’t need to pay Salik and no registration fees as part of government incentives. “The one main reason we developed the bike is to be environmentally friendly. After the aeroplane, a petrol motorbike is more harmful than an SUV and saloon car. According to a study by the University of California Berkeley, emissions from motorcycles dwarf that of SUVs. A sportbike can be responsible for 1.5 times the total greenhouse gas emissions of a typical SUV over the lifetime of the vehicles. “We have got ESMA [Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology] approval recently. ESMA introduced us to GSO [GCC Standardisation Organisation] in Saudi Arabia. We have been working with government organisations, including RTA, to get the necessary approvals to get the bikes on the road,” he said. Moreover, Ridgway said that the bikes are designed by a team of bikers who understand the vehicles, the way a rider rides, and the conditions a rider rides in. “The magic is fusing all this knowledge into intelligence that’s specific to riders,” he said. However, he said the bikes are assembled in China and planning to assemble it in the UAE at a later stage. Normal three-pin socket for charging“We plan to have 20,000 bikes on the road by 2022 and our focus is on the delivery companies and supermarkets," Ridgway said. He said the bikes will be launched in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt for now. In the UAE, it will be officially launched by the end of September. The Electa is priced at AED 16,450 while the Commuta at AED 14,450 and Byka at AED 14,950. “When we came to the design and R&D of One Moto, one of the things was convenience. The way we have designed the battery is a slot-in and slot-out method. A customer can purchase multiple batteries and keep one in the office and one in the home for charging. The biggest disadvantage for electric vehicles is the charging stations. We wanted to make sure that we take the hassle of the user. The battery can be charged from any three-pin socket,” he said. The bikes have a capacity of 85km an hour, including three gear systems to conserve the battery. The battery gives a life of between 90km and 150km. The full charging takes between four and six hours and 80% charge in one hour. 6. We already know what the Google Pixel 4’s rear is going to look like, thanks to Google itself tweeting an image of the back of the upcoming phone, but we don’t know what the front is going to look like. According to some new renders, however, the front will look exactly like the Pixel 3, warts and all. Shared by reliable leaker @OnLeaks, in collaboration with iGeeksBlog, the renders show the front and back of the Pixel 4 in great detail – although apparently all we needed to do to see the Pixel 4's front was look at the Pixel 3. This is what we thought of the Pixel 3Everything we know about the Pixel 4These are the best Android phonesThe renders show a large bezel at the top of the Pixel 4, which houses the top speaker and two front-facing cameras. This is exactly the same layout as in the Pixel 3, although it's possible the exact dimensions (and the camera specs) could be slightly different. It's worth remembering that unlike the Pixel 3, there is no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor here – we've heard rumors that the Pixel 4 will have facial recognition unlocking, and so this front camera array would be used for that. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/E7JuzR3eyMo7iGdf7EafJj.jpg The Pixel 4 XL and Pixel 4 renders One interesting tidbit is that while the Pixel 3 XL had a large notch instead of the large bezel, the renders suggest both the Pixel 4 and 4 XL have the same big top bezel as the Pixel 3. Apparently Google is bucking the trend of smaller and smaller bezels. Another interesting difference between the devices is that the Pixel 3 has a large chin below the screen, which houses another front-firing speaker. The Pixel 4 render doesn't seem to have one of these, so it could be that the upcoming phone has a weaker loudspeaker array than its predecessor. Of course, it's worth taking all Pixel 4 leaks and renders from non-Google sources with a pinch of salt, as they're often inaccurate (although @OnLeaks is fairly reputable). So while this should give you a lot to think about regarding the upcoming Google Pixel 4, don't take everything as fact – yet. We'll know for sure about the Google Pixel 4 in October, when we're expecting Google to launch its upcoming flagship along with an XL version, so stay tuned to TechRadar for our review and news then. 7. Hulu doesn't get enough credit. The streaming service might not have the same audience of Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, but it's not lacking in great TV shows to watch. From Seinfeld to The X-Files, The Handmaid's Tale to Atlanta, there's just as much to stream here as there is on Netflix - and most of it is available to watch right after it airs on live TV. The only problem with Hulu's massive catalog of TV shows and movies? There's almost too much of it to go through. The good news is that if you're limited on time and are tired of endlessly scrolling, we've done all the hard work ourselves and have narrowed it down to a list of 25 must-watch shows - what we consider the best Hulu TV shows. Sure, that's just a small fraction of what's available on the service, but it's more than enough to get you a weekend (or three). Why Hulu over Netflix or Amazon Prime Video? If you're on the fence about signing up for Hulu, it's probably worth taking the leap. It's cheaper than Netflix by a few dollars per month, and significantly cheaper than Amazon Prime Video, though the latter does come with a few more perks. In terms of content, Netflix has been pouring money into original shows and movies, but Hulu still has the biggest shows from NBC, ABC and FOX. Even better, there's only a one-day delay between when they air on TV and when you'll be able to stream them - you'll never have to wait months to see new episodes ever again. Finally, while Netflix is nearly universally supported on TVs and streaming video players, Hulu is finally getting to that point, too, with support on every major video game console, smart TV and streaming video player. There are a few hold-outs out there somewhere, but if you can connect to the internet, chances are good you're using a device that can stream Hulu. Sign up for a free 30-day trial of here here! Three decades after Hitchcock’s directorial debut came Alfred Hitchcock Presents, a series that soon became a milestone in TV history. It was hosted and produced by the Master of Suspense himself, and is perhaps best known for its iconic title sequence, with Hitchcock introducing each suspense-packed episode in his inimitable style. And Hitchcock wasn’t the only big name associated with the series – Roald Dahl wrote six episodes, stars such as Robert Redford and Bette Davis made appearances, and directors including Disney’s Robert Stevenson (Mary Poppins) stepped behind the camera. If you feel like you've been getting too good of sleep recently, American Horror Story is all-too-happy to fix that for you. You'll find all eight seasons of the show on Hulu, each of which centers around a different plot line and unique set of fears. Not sure if clowns are all that scary? Watch American Horror Story. Think porous materials are harmless? Again, watch American Horror Story. Anything you love can and will be used to scare you silly. Is there anything Donald Glover can't do? Besides writing hits like This is America as Childish Gambino, Donald Glover wrote, starred and produced this superb show about the music scene in Atlanta. The first seasons charts the rise of two cousins as hip hop artists, trying make something of themselves. The show is what you should expect from Glover. It’s smart, funny and a fitting looks at being black and middle class in America. Season 2 got a short delay as Glover starred as a young Lando in the Han Solo movie but now that's available for your viewing pleasure, too. Although TV has no shortage of quality adult animations, Archer is undoubtedly one of the best, and perhaps the most underrated. Don’t come here looking for PC content though, for its characters are a bunch of terrible, power-hungry, expletive-spouting egoists – and that’s what makes them great. The show is based around the exploits of Archer Sterling (H. Jon Benjamin), a Don Draper-esque super-spy working for an MI5-like organization helmed by his mother (Jessica Walter), and the hilariously unfortunate situations he finds himself in while trying (or rather, failing) to save the world. Ever find yourself screaming “Yas queen!” without really knowing how the term came to be? Let Broad City educate you, for Comedy Central’s bangin’ lady duo – Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer – are the reason this phrase will be forever lodged in your lexicon. Championing female friendship like no other show on TV right now (or ever, to be honest), Broad City shines a hysterically real and infinitely positive light on how ridiculous life can be… while perma-blazed on gingerbread blunts, naturally. Another hilarious sitcom brain-child of NBC, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a satirical look at a dysfunctional police station. The series follows the brilliant but immature NYPD detective Jake Peralta, this Golden Globe-winning series is a laugh-a-minute, with plenty of deadpan jokes, physical comedy, and crackpot characters. With around 20 episodes per season Brooklyn Nine-Nine is totally bingeable, and the latest fifth season is now available on Hulu. With more sass than you can shake a vampire-slaying stake at, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is so much more than your average undead-hunting drama series (sorry, Supernatural). Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as the no-nonsense, titular slayer, Buffy’s battles against (the still terrifying) villains who attempt to take down her nearest and dearest are but a small part of what makes this show so great. Expect wit, roundhouse kicks, tears and tantrums – and, of course, myriad quintessentially ‘90s outfits. If you're sad about missing out on Man in the High Castle on Amazon Prime Video, Hulu has a rival book-based show that will scare and enthrall you: Castle Rock. Based off the books by author Stephen King, this horror anthology just got renewed for a second season - just in time for IT Chapter 2. There’s a reason why NBC’s Community found such a huge fanbase during its six-year run. Laden with pop-culture references and geeky, self-referential humor, this community college-set sitcom is a witty and often unpredictable series about a culturally diverse crowd united in their quest for a better education. The show boasts an outstanding cast of comedy actors, including Donald Glover, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs and Danny Pudi, all of whom give performances that never fail to capture the nuances of bizarre human behaviour. An outstanding adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, and Hulu’s most acclaimed original series to date, The Handmaid’s Tale is one of the best TV shows of 2017. Despite being based on a now three-decades-old book, the show’s haunting dystopia remains relevant as ever. Following Offred (Elizabeth Moss), we’re catapulted into a not-too-distant, totalitarian and theocratic future that dictates fertile women become 'handmaids' to elite couples who have trouble conceiving. Blessed be the fruit. While its origins lie in the 1996 Coen brothers cult classic movie of the same name, FX’s black comedy crime drama has made a name for itself as a show in its own right, and a brilliant one at that, featuring a stellar cast including Martin Freeman, Kirsten Dunst and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. While the first season pays homage to the vibe of the original movie, tracking a series of murders and the antics of a downtrodden insurance salesman, the second and third installments venture into totally alternate storylines. Worth a watch? You betcha! Created, written and well-loved by animation legend Matt Groening, you might have wrote Futurama off as filler content for Fox's Sunday night programming block. If that sounds like you, you inadvertently did a major disservice to creativity, humor and passion Groening poured into every panel year after year for over a decade. Futurama is funny, witty and has the uncanny ability to poke fun at cultural icons without sinking to juvenile mud-slinging. Each time the series got the axe broke our heart a little more, which didn't get the mending it needed until the final episode of the final season. Initially made on a shoe-string budget, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia first season had a cult following, but low viewing figures meant it was destined to be a one-series wonder. Thankfully, everything changed when Season 2 was eventually green-lit, thanks to some big-time star power. Danny De Vito joined for a 10-episode run that was extended because he loved it so much. He's still in the show that's now in its 10th season, bringing with him huge viewing figures. The antics of Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Mac (Rob McElhenney, the show's creator), Charlie (Charlie Kelly) and Sweet Dee (Kaitlin Olson) won't be for everyone - at its darkest the show's 'comedy' themes range from nazism to drug abuse - but stick with it and this deliciously depraved classic will reward you. Modern Family has been consistently hilarious for six seasons now, using The Simpsons' method of showing good ol' family values through, well, good ol' family dysfunction. Every episode hits the spot. The writing is Emmy award-winning and the acting too, even if the central idea that the Dunphy/Pritchett family is being filmed for a documentary wears a little thin after a while. It was hailed as one of the best, and perhaps the first, coming-of-age series, and the fact that My So-Called Life was axed after one season is nothing short of a travesty. Filmed in the early ‘90s, we met Angela Chase (Claire Danes) as she poetically narrated us through her most awkward teenage years. From her first real crush (Jared Leto, who stars as the player in plaid, Jordan Catalano), new friendships and family dynamics, to conversations around diversity and LGBT issues, this show is an honest look at teenage angst and all the baggage that comes with it. With a cast list that reads like a veritable guidebook to today’s comedy superstars – Amy Poehler, Aziz Ansari, Rashida Jones, Aubrey Plaza and Chris Pratt, to name a few – the mockumentary series Parks and Recreation remains one of TV’s sharpest and funniest political satires. Set in a fictional Indiana town, the show follows a diverse group of madcap public officials whose efforts to make their city a better place often result in chaos, as you might expect from a show brought to us by Michael Shur, a writer and producer for the US version of The Office, and former Simpsons writer Greg Daniels. Go on, treat yo’ self. Need your fix of black humor and sci-fi gone wrong? Hulu’s got Adult Swim's brain-pummeling, universe-stretching, animated adventure on tap. So sit back and allow the grandpa and grandson duo to teach you a thing or two about psychology, bizarre family dynamics and Adult Swim’s excellent scriptwriting through three seasons that promise to leave you scratching your head for days on end. Delivering subversive satire and laughs-a-plenty, Tina Fey’s 30 Rock, a show about a female TV writer trying to grasp control over backstage antics at a live, prime-time variety show, is as smart as it is downright hilarious. Every episode is layered with running gags, absurd plot twists and pop-culture references; so much so that you’ll need several sittings to appreciate each one. Fey stars alongside household names such as Tracey Morgan, Alec Baldwin, Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer. Forget sentimentality, complex themes and feel-good subplots, for you won’t find any in Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David’s show about four narcissists waxing lyrical about life's absurdities. Without preaching or taking itself too seriously, Seinfeld amused its hardcore fanbase with relatable, self-referential humor and face-palm inducing antics. And there’s no strict overarching plot throughout its 172 episodes either, meaning you can dip in and out as you please. That’s pretty, prettty, pretttttttty good. After more than 30 years on the air, The Simpsons is like comfort food for many of us. It's a series that can be picked up at any time and continues to ape the issues of the day. Witty, charming and heartfelt, The Simpsons remains a cultural touchstone that we can't live without. Thankfully, because of Hulu, we won't have to. That said, if The Simpsons is a bit too... family-friendly for you, South Park is also on Hulu to satisfy your satirical taste palate. While The Simpsons might include a few adult jokes in each episode, 99% of South Park's jokes are meant for adult audiences. (The other 1% of the jokes are low-brow potty humor.) Still, as dark as the show gets South Park is another animated TV staple that we couldn't live without. As much as we hate to admit it, Survivor remains one of the best reality shows on TV... not that it's much of a high bar. The series that began two decades ago is now entering 32nd season - proving that it has just as much grit and survivability as the contestants it tortures week after week. The Twilight Zone marked something of a turning point in mainstream entertainment. Created by Rod Serling in the late 1950s, this anthology series introduced American homes to science fiction and fantasy; genres employed as a vehicle for social commentary on topics such as nuclear war and mass hysteria. Throughout its five seasons the show met with huge critical acclaim, and half a century later it still remains one of the most influential series of all time. Twin Peaks is the greatest, strangest season of TV spread over two seasons. The show is both beautiful and grotesque, simple and convoluted. The premise is simple: some FBI agents come to the sleepy town of Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of Laura Palmer but the way the tale is told through both dreamscapes and fairly ordinary soap opera musings makes it unmissable. Created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, the series was eventually hamstrung by annoying TV execs forcing the murderer to be revealed mid way through the second season, but this doesn't detract from the complete brilliance of a show that was way ahead of its time. Tackling everything from paranormal phenomena and governmental cover-ups to regular appearances from nightmare-inducing monsters, The X-Files featured special agent duo Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), with Mulder in particular convinced that the truth was out there. And 'out there' this cultural touchstone of a series certainly was, as wonderful as it was totally off the wall. Featuring some of the most terrifying TV episodes of all time (one word: Tooms), and labyrinthine storylines, this show is a must for any conspiracy theorist. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/GwFuhKHi5V8
  8. Huawei's sub-brand Honor has just released a new laptop that's positioned to challenge Apple's expected 16-inch MacBook Pro, and it has a 16.1-inch display of its own in an Ultrabook form-factor, Gizmochina reports. The new Honor MagicBook Pro has all the trappings of an Ultrabook, including some of the latest trends in screen design. Honor has reduced the screen bezels on either side of the display to just 4.9mm. This let's it fit a 16.1-inch display into a laptop with a form factor closer to that of a 15.6-inch laptop. And, it's weight stays trim, too, at about 3.75 pounds (1.7 kg). Already, that's shaping up nicely as an Ultrabook. The weight puts it in below the 15-inch 2018 MacBook Pro while also delivering more screen space. And, with 100% coverage of the sRGB color space, it's suited for professional work in web design. See an early rumor for the 16-inch MacBook ProHere's what we want from the 2019 MacBook ProCheck out the best MacsInternal specs may make the differenceOn the lower end of the MacBook Pro lineup, the Honor MagicBook Pro could be a real contender. That's because beyond the screen size and Ultrabook form factor, it's not the beastliest machine. The two detailed models pack 8th-Generation Intel Core i5 and i7 U series processors. In other words, they have lower-power CPUs that offer solid performance balanced with efficiency, not the blistering speeds some may want in a professional machine. And, there's only 8GB of memory (RAM) for now, though a 16GB model has also been announced. The MagicBook Pro does include an Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics processor (GPU), which can improve graphical performance slightly. Those specs won't compare tot he higher-power processors and GPUs that are likely to show up in a larger MacBook Pro. But, for lighter users, they won't need to. The MagicBook Pro appears to have plenty to challenge lower-end configurations of any potential MacBook Pro updates, and it will likely compete strongly on price. While no international release information has been announced, the starting prices for the MagicBook Pro in China are low. The Core i5 model starts at 5,499 Yuan (about $800, £640, AU$1,145), and the Core i7 model starts at 6,199 Yuan (about $900, £720, AU$1,290). So, anyone on the market for a MacBook Pro-like product that also has a big screen, Ultrabook design, and a low price may want to keep their eyes out for an international release of the MagicBook Pro. 9. A year after Doom: Eternal debuted, we've seen a lot more about the sequel to the much-loved 2016 reboot. The new game looks even faster, more frenetic, and more gore-filled than its predecessor - which you can discover when Doom: Eternal comes out on November 22, 2019. Few franchises embody the FPS genre quite like Doom. Packed to the seams with blood, hellfire, shotguns, and even more blood, id Software's ultra-violent shooter has earned legions of fans since its first game in 1993: pitching a nameless marine against hordes of demons unleashed from hell. Now, two years after a 2016 reboot brought the franchise successfully to modern consoles, we have word of a direct sequel: Doom Eternal. The sequel will have the single-player mode continuing where the first game left off: DoomGuy has been teleoprted to an unknown location and it's up to them to save a demon-invaded Earth. [update: QuakeCon 2019 is approaching and it'll bring some brand new Doom Eternal footage with it. Read on to find out more about what to expect!] Doom Eternal announced at E3Bethesda will release more info about Doom: Eternal at QuakeCon this year in Europe...and at a new event in Dallas later in June - the first-ever DoomCon. Cut to the chaseWhat is it? A fast-paced, ultra-violent shooter where you beat and shoot demons to a pulp, and the sequel to 2016's DoomWhat can I play it on? PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. No word yet on Xbox Project ScarlettWhen can I play it? Y'know, so it's not just guns and gore. Bethesda also revealed Battle Mode, a 2-demons-vs-1-Doomguy versus mode for 3 players. Even if they don't introduce a multiplayer mode, this is a neat little addition to shake up the carnage. QuakeCon 2018 The Doom Eternal worldwide premiere gameplay reveal of Doom Eternal took place during the QuakeCon 2018 keynote, and was our first chance to see the sequel in action. You can check out the gameplay trailer below: E3 2018 Doom Eternal's E3 2018 trailer had everything we love about the series, dialled up to 11. Get a glimpse of its apocalyptic vision of Earth, with a suitably thumping soundtrack and some jacked-up demons staring down the barrel of a shotgun. Doom Eternal news and rumorsQuakeCon 2019 QuakeCon is fast approaching and Bethesda has released its streaming schedule for the event. Things will kick off on July 26 with a Doom keynote celebrating 25 years of the franchise during the course of which there's a good chance Doom Eternal could get a mention. On Saturday July 27 there will also be a Doom Eternal specific presentation where the first live gameplay of the game will be shown. If you can't attend the event in person, all of the presentations will be shown on Bethesda's official Twitch channel. Doom Eternal will be playable at QuakeCon Europe Good news for Doom fans intending to attend QuakeCon Europe in London this coming July—Doom Eternal will not only be the star of the show, it'll be available to play. This marks the first time the game will be playable by the public outside the US. If you want to go along to the show, which runs from July 26 to July 27, you can find out more on the QuakeCon Europe page. Tickets aren’t available yet but they are free so it’s worth signing up for updates. Doom Eternal will be Bethesda's E3 2019 star Ready for an "in-depth look at Doom Eternal"? That's what the blog post accompanying the announcement of Bethesda's E3 2019 showcase promises. Kicking off at 5.30pm PDT on Sunday 9 June, the horror shooter is the first big-confirmed name at Bethesda's showcase, and will take up a large portion of the show. Here's hoping there's room for The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield, too. Stadia launch title Google is entering the gaming fray via its new streaming service, Stadia, and it's bringing Doom Eternal with it. The iD shooter will be a launch title for Google Stadia. It will allow you to stream the game at maximum PC gaming graphic quality levels in 4K resolution and at 60fps to any screen capable of running the Chrome browser, or connecting to a Chromecast dongle, with apparently little latency. It's not yet certain how much it will cost to access Doom Eternal through Stadia, or when the service will launch beyond a vague "2019" window. Slayer 2.0 The team has created the most powerful Doom slayer we’ve seen yet, with enhanced armor and an arsenal of badass new equipment, including a shoulder-mounted cannon with flamethrower, an extendable blade, and a new dash ability. In addition there's an upgraded selection of guns and mods to play with, such as the Super Shotgun's new Meat Hook attachments which pulls you into the face of enemies. A host of new demons (and returning favorites) Doom Eternal will see the return of classic demons such as the Pain Elemental, Archvile and Arachnotron, alongside an array of brand-new demons like the Doom Hunter and the corrupted Marauders. Invasion An all-new Invasion mode allows other players to invade your campaign as a demon. Likewise, you can join the demon horde yourself and invade other players' campaigns - either alone or as part of a hunting party. There's no place like home Instead of the previous game's isolated mining site on Mars, Doom Eternal brings the action to Earth, and it looks like there's been a lot of damage. Skulls litter the ground, creatures howl, and tendrils pull apart skyscrapers in the distance. While Doom is traditionally known for its tight, claustrophobic level design, a more expansive map could encourage different styles of play and allow for far bigger set pieces (read: bigger demons). We imagine Doom Eternal will continue with the same fast-paced, gun-heavy combat the series is known for. But Bethesda has promised a lot more demons to fight, and that you'll feel a lot more powerful this time around. Could Eternal be online? While Bethesda have clarified Doom Eternal will be a direct sequel to the previous entry, the Eternal branding makes us think there may be more of a stress on online components – especially since Bethesda's Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises have been branching out in this direction. Could we see an expanded online game mode with regular updates to its world-sized hellscape? http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/D46pBkGAYjNaqWmxDZqwqY.jpg Or will we see a VR version? The last Doom came to the HTC Vive and Playstation VR last year, albeit with some clunky navigation issues and a comparatively stripped-back three-hour story. The upcoming sequel is the perfect opportunity to build on that foundation and make a VR experience deserving of the legendary IP. Could we see it on the Switch? Seeing a bloodthirsty rampage like Doom Eternal on Nintendo's family-friendly Switch seems like an odd match, but Bethesda has confirmed Doom Eternal will indeed be coming to the Nintendo Switch. 12. New security flaws discovered in three popular corporate VPN tools by researchers at Devcore could allow attackers to steal confidential information directly from companies' networks. The firm's Orange Tsai and Meh Chang first discovered the security flaws which affect corporate VPNs from Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet and Pulse Secure. While consumers utilize VPNs to bypass region blocks and to protect their privacy online, business users often use the services to access resources on their organization's corporate network while working remotely. Typically companies provide their staff with a corporate username and password along with a two-factor authentication code to access their networks using a VPN. Turbo VPN is the fastest growing mobile VPNHow to make money from a VPNExpressVPN ups simultaneous VPN connections to fiveHowever, according to Chang and Tsai, the flaws they discovered could allow an attacker to gain access to a company's network without the need for a username or password. SSL VPNsBy using an SSL VPN business users have a convenient way to connect to corporate networks while out of the office but they also provide hackers with an easy way to infiltrate a company's intranet according to Tsai who explained how they can be misused further in a blog post, saying: “SSL VPNs protect corporate assets from Internet exposure, but what if SSL VPNs themselves are vulnerable? They’re exposed to the Internet, trusted to reliably guard the only way to your intranet. Once the SSL VPN server is compromised, attackers can infiltrate your Intranet and even take over all users connecting to the SSL VPN server!” The researchers offered further insight on the format string flaw which affects Palo Alto's GlobalProtect portal and GlobalProtect Gateway products in their post. The remote code execution flaw (indexed as CVE-2019-1579) exists in the PAN SSL Gateway and could enable unauthenticated threat actors to remotely execute arbitrary code on target systems if exploited. Only older versions of the software are affected by the vulnerability but Devcore found that many businesses, including Uber, are still using the outdated software. For example, the researchers found that 22 of Uber's servers were still using a vulnerable version of GlobalProtect. Palo Alto Networks has alerted its customers regarding the issue in an advisory in which it urged them to update their software to the latest version while Fortinet has updated its firmware to address the vulnerability. Pulse Secure on the other hand, released a patch in April to address the issue. 13. Facebook has been hit with a record $5bn fine by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to settle privacy concerns over the Cambridge Analytica data-stealing scandal. The social network will also be required to establish an independent privacy committee that CEO Mark Zuckerberg will have no control over. The FTC began its probe into Facebook in regard to how the political consultancy Cambridge Analtyica improperly obtained the data of up to 87m of the site's users but the probe was later widened to include other issues such as facial recognition. Cambridge Analytica files for bankruptcy after Facebook scandalWhat scandal? Facebook usage actually increased after Cambridge AnalyticaFacebook Workplace reveals price riseFTC chairman Joe Simons explained why the agency levied the largest fine ever imposed on any company for violating consumer privacy in a statement, saying: "Despite repeated promises to its billions of users worldwide that they could control how their personal information is shared, Facebook undermined consumers' choices.” Simons also explained that the record fine was designed “to change Facebook's entire privacy culture to decrease the likelihood of continued violations.” FTC probeThe FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection first began investigating Facebook back in March 2018 when the news broke that an online personality quiz was used to illegally harvest user data and sold to Cambridge Analytica. There were also claims that this data may have been used to influence the outcome of the 2016 US presidential election and the UK Brexit referendum. Despite the fact that only 270,000 users took the quiz, whistleblower Christoper Wylie claims that the data of around 50m users was harvested through the friend networks of those who took it. Back in October of last year, the UK's data protection watchdog fined Facebook £500,000 for its role in the Cambridge Analytica data scandal. The FTC's investigation found that some of the social network's policies violated rules against deceptive practices such as how its data policy was deceptive to those who used its facial recognition tool or how it did not reveal that phone numbers used for two-factor authentication would be used for advertising. FTC representatives from both the Democrat and Republican parties voted the settlement deal through, though some believed the penalty against Facebook was too lenient. The South Korean tech giant is rolling out Apple AirPlay 2 and Homekit support for its latest and greatest sets. Coming to the newest LG OLED TVs, NanoCell TVs and UHD TVs with ThinQ AI capabilities in the coming days and weeks, the firmware update will let TV owners stream content from their iPhone, iPad or Mac straight to their TV sets using AirPlay 2. Homekit support will allow owners of the TVs to integrate them into their Apple-powered smart home device line-up too. They'll be able to control basic functions such as power, volume and source controls from the Home app, with the TVs also compatible with "scene" functions that let the TV's features be trigged in conjunction with other smart home devices. Apple's soon-to-transform iTunes store has a growing library of Dolby Vision content, which is supported by many of LGs most recent TVs. Aside from the Netflix app, access to Dolby Vision content can otherwise be quite limited, with 4K Blu-ray players and discs being one of the few other ways to take advantage of the format. LG's firmware update will be a welcome one, but it's not quite as seamless an integration as that of Samsung, which has this year acquired a built-in iTunes app for its smart interface, letting viewers buy shows and movies from iTunes directly from their TVs. 16. It turns out not many people want to buy a $10,000 plus version of the Apple Watch. According Bloomberg's new profile of Apple's Jeff Williams - one of the major driving forces behind the Apple Watch from 2013 until now - the company only sold a number in the "low tens of thousands" of its most expensive Apple Watch Edition line. The Apple Watch Edition was a variant of the original device that came with 18-karat gold with prices starting at $10,000 (around £8,000, AU$14,000) but also rising up to $16,000 (around £13,000, AU$23,000). The full guide to the Apple WatchOur guide to the best smartwatchesRead our Apple Watch 4 reviewThe report also says the company saw the vast majority of its sales within the first two weeks of launch, which suggest most of the fans who were looking forward to a top-end luxury device bought one right away at launch. An Apple Watch will only last for a certain number of years because software updates don't come to all versions of device. In fact, if you bought an original Apple Watch Edition it is now stuck on watchOS 4 software and won't be upgraded to watchOS 5, or watchOS 6 later this year. The company dropped the Apple Watch Edition after a second attempt as part of the Apple Watch 2 range, but the company still offers a premium Hermes band with its Apple Watch 3 and Apple Watch 4 if you want a slightly more high-end experience. A second biteSince the luxury Edition of the watch, the company has refocused its Apple Watch line on health and fitness. The report claims that Williams is one of the big reasons that has been possible. It's also said that before the announcement of the original Apple Watch the company found that its prototype devices employees were using regularly were causing an allergic reaction to a specific type of nickle. Before launch, the company decided to include a new type of nickle to avoid the problem on a much larger scale. Another early version of the watch had an issue where the taptic engine - that's the part of the watch that allows it to vibrate quietly when you're getting notifications - was corroding after long-term use. The company managed to fix this issue before launch, and all the existing models with the corrosion issue went directly to employees. It's all set up for an intriguing match-up, and one you'll not need miss a moment of, - no matter where you are in the world - thanks to our England vs Ireland live stream guide below. With the Ashes almost upon us, the game will likely be used as an opportunity for fringe players and debutants to state their case in front of England's selectors. However, they'll be up against an Irish side who'll be bang up for getting their first win in a Test against their opponents. While England will likely be fielding something of a second string side, everyone on show will have a point to prove. Among those will be World Cup hero Jason Roy who has bagged his first Test match call up and will be looking to stake a claim for an opening spot against Australia. With World Cup stars Ben Stokes and Joe Buttler rested and Jofra Archer and Mark Wood both out injured, there's a chance to shine for new faces like Somerset all-rounder Lewis Gregory and Warwickshire fast bowler Olly Stone. The match will only be Ireland's third ever Test, following on from defeats against Pakistan (by 5 wickets) and Afghanistan (by 7 wickets). A result for the visitors would be a massive shock, but don't be surprised if pacemen Tim Murtagh, Boyd Rankin plus 19-year-old fast bowler Joshua Little make it more of a challenge than the hosts will have wanted. 18. For many, the idea of earning a living as a professional gamer seems like a dream come true. Getting paid to play video games all day, with unlimited access to state-of-the-art gaming rigs and the latest peripherals, certainly sounds amazing on paper, as does the prospect of jet-setting around the globe to compete in international tournaments for big cash prizes. However, the reality is that very few players are cut out for the task, as it requires incredible dedication, determination and perseverance to keep up with the daily demands of a pro gamer's lifestyle. We all have a favorite game that we love coming back to over and over again, but what if you had to devote almost all of your gaming time to that title alone, sinking around 80 hours into it per week for several years, with little time for anything else? To get an idea of what it's like to be a player competing at the highest level in professional gaming, we flew to Seoul to visit the South Korean headquarters of Gen.G, a global esports organization that's responsible for winning numerous world championships in games such as League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm and PUBG – here's what we learned. Esports: everything you need to knowPlay hardIn South Korea, a country that's referred to by many as the mecca of esports, professional gaming is serious business. Earlier this year, Gen.G completed an investment round worth a staggering $46 million, with Hollywood megastar Will Smith counted among its numerous cashed-up investors. Formerly known as KSV Esports, Gen.G (short for Generation Gaming) was established in 2017 and has since expanded its global reach with offices in Los Angeles and Shanghai. It boasts 11 teams in total (including three Academy teams) and is ranked number seven on the Forbes list of top esports organisations. Upon arriving at the company's HQ, which consists of an imposing, seven-floor concrete structure, it's immediately apparent that despite being a pro-gaming organisation, Gen.G isn't here to play around – they're here to kick ass and take championships. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Wc9wPnaXYoZsEdYCotCJwL.jpg How to start watching esportsFully equipped As our tour moves from floor to floor, we're struck by how many immaculately tidy rooms there are filled with specced out gaming PCs, each sporting high-performance internals, such as powerful video cards, SSDs and water-cooling systems, along with the expected rainbow-like RGB lighting and Gen.G Esports branding. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/aV6h3Fih8HbtwBXpVzto4B.jpg Despite the number of beastly gaming PCs found throughout the building, we were surprised to learn that in the mind of a professional gamer, possessing the right peripherals is arguably more important than having the latest GPU. “All the equipment is of course important, but I would say the keyboard and the mouse pad are perhaps the most important because in a sense they are like weapons for a combatant," says Gen.G team captain Seong-Jin Lee, who's also known by his gamer name, Cuvee. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3D5CKex7Nf6dc6zkLunnSe.jpg Very quickly, we get the sense from Cuvee that things like fancy gaming chairs and ultra-wide monitors are considered more of a luxury than a necessity. "As for the chair, as long as it's comfortable enough, it’s fine, and as for the monitor, as long as I can figure out what’s going on, it’s fine as well.” How esports are taking over the worldWe're gonna need a montageOf course, you'd want to be comfortable, given the amount of gaming that is done by Gen.G players on a daily basis. To give us an idea, Cuvee takes us through an average day in the Gen.G team captain's life. “Once I wake up, I wash myself, have breakfast then immediately start training until lunch time. I take my lunch break then rest for an hour or two, then I embark on my afternoon training, which lasts until dinner time. I have a quick dinner, then afterwards its back to training again until I go to bed.” http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/RHmDobK8wvVoSS423cfkeH.jpg Jihun Lee, general manager of Gen'G's players department, echoes this statement. “On average, during a season [players train] 12-15 hours per day. Off season, they train at least eight hours a day.” Typically, players arrive at Gen.G headquarters a little later in the morning, sometimes starting their training around midday. This will often continue well past 1am. Of course, players must use this time to strictly play the game they specialize in, meaning you won't find them dabbling in other titles during work hours. “I have a very strict policy against that, so for instance, whenever the players are within this environment during training hours, they have to stick to their area of expertise, but of course they’re free to play whatever game they like if they’re on vacation or if they’re at home," says Lee. He continued, "The reason I have this policy is because for them gaming is more of a job, and if you take into account that these gamers are quite young in age, they have not quite developed that sense of professionalism yet. And if they get distracted or become driven by the entertainment value or the fun of a certain game, I worry they might not be as focused on what they should be doing.” Game over?Another thing to consider is that professional esports players tend to have fairly short careers, with many starting in their teenage years and retiring around the time most people would be graduating college. Of course, that has been lengthened in recent years. "In the past, we would say that the peak age at which the players reach their maximum competency in playing these games would be 18-23 years, but nowadays we have a lot more categories of games," says Lee. "We’ve seen a lot of technological progress, and more sophisticated game-playing as well, so I believe that the life expectancy of a professional player has been extended somewhat so we see quite a number of players who are around age 29." Lee continued, "I see this as a positive development, as in the past it has been a personal concern of mine to see all these professional players retire at a very young age, not being able to figure out what they would do with their careers, so with the extension of their professional gaming life, I hope to see more positive change in the field.” Stream onhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/M8Y6krrhbzhLKogZhVLDdZ.jpg Thankfully, the esports organization does look for ways to help players continue their careers after their competitive days are behind them. During our visit, we noticed numerous smaller rooms throughout the complex intended for streaming – each one decked out with colorful strip lighting, and large logos from sponsors like Samsung and Razer. Lee explains that players are encouraged to stream for a number of reasons. "From the player’s perspective, they of course have to take into consideration what their future career will be like once they retire as a player, and nowadays there are a lot of opportunities that have been opening up for them to become a professional streamer.” http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/8A8EZRQWWX9dddoWTShdqg.jpg Admittedly, there are also other benefits for the organization itself. “One of the esports business models is the streaming business, and one of the big reasons for that is it allows a channel to communicate directly with fans, so we encourage players to engage in the streaming features, especially since from our perspective, once a player’s pay goes up, the revenue that comes from the streaming business can help offset the expense from the perspective of the company." Advice for prospective playersHaving given us a rundown of what it's like to be a professional esports player, Jihun Lee leaves us with some advice for players who want to get into the field. “I’ve noticed that a lot of younger generation players just think they can go into esports because they’re passionate about it, but in reality not a lot of them can handle the challenges or the stress that comes with the field, so I would advise that these younger potential players consult with their parents, their mentors, their teachers first of all, and figure out whether they’re an actual good fit in this field." He continued, "The second thing is I would suggest that you go to an academy or an institution that provides some form of proficiency test so that you can gauge where you stand against potential competitors.” Lee admits that the road to becoming a professional esports competitor isn't always straight, but believes those who are determined and driven are more likely to reach their goal. "It’s not a well-established route from becoming an amateur player to a professional player, so you have to be more proactive in reaching out to potential mentors to figure this out." 19. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10's upcoming launch on August 7 is weeks away, and leaks hint it will be powerful – possibly more than the Galaxy S10, according to leaked specs for both it and the beefier Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus. The Note 10 specs come courtesy of noted leaker Steve H. McFly in a two-tweet flurry. The biggest revelation? Both phones are, in fact, getting the new higher-powered Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, which goes against a previous report claiming they’d get the standard Snapdragon 855. That alone puts them ahead of the Galaxy S10 family released in March. The specs also note that the alternative chipset is the Exynos 9825 (presumably for handsets going to non-US regions), despite prior rumors asserting it would get the slightly older Exynos 9820. Note (har) the differences between the normal version and the Note 10 Plus: a larger 4,300mAh battery, a Time-of-Flight sensor, and a larger 6.8-inch screen – all of which appeared in previous Samsung Galaxy Note 10 leaks. Also cool? The S-Pen with “Air Actions” gestures - which could be the ‘gesture control’ we heard about in a very recent rumor. And while we’re still not totally clear how fast the Samsung Galaxy S10 phones’ battery-donating Wireless PowerShare feature is - one PhoneArena report claims 4.5W - these leaked specs suggest the Note 10 will be able to use its version of the feature to pump out 15W of power. Not bad for wireless charging! Cameras: just like the Galaxy S10 phones...or not?Today's Note 10 specs leak also details the rear cameras: a triple-lens setup with a main 12MP wide, a 16MP ultrawide and 12MP zoom lens (along with the aforementioned ToF depth lens on the bigger Note 10 Pro phone). Sound familiar? It’s the exact same setup as the rear cameras on the Samsung Galaxy S10. Or is it? Samsung has packed its flagships with dual-aperture main lenses - in the S10’s case, that 12MP wide - that automatically switches between f/1.5 and f/2.4 depending on the level of light. But another new rumor on SamMobile reaffirms a previous prediction that the Note 10 phones will get a third aperture setting - f/1.8 - for more nuanced phone photography. That new Note 10 camera rumor also touches on another inconclusive feature: whether or not it will get a microSD slot. The report claims it won’t, but asserts that the bigger Note 10 Pro will get one. 20. We may have already seen new MacBook Pro models refreshed for 2019, but the true MacBook Pro 2019 is expected to land this October as a 16-inch LCD laptop, according to Taiwan’s United Daily News (UDN). Given that this would be Apple’s largest MacBook Pro laptop since 2012’s final run of the 17-inch MacBook Pro, the company reportedly plans to slap a gargantuan baseline price tag onto this year’s model - which could rise above $3,000 (about £2,450, AU$4,350). This laptop will likely be pushed heavily toward content creators and developers as a demonstration of Apple’s sincerity in serving those audiences. Here’s to hoping it will somehow satisfy the cross-section of folks that also like to game on their workhorse machines. MacBook Pro 2019 backs down from OLEDThis report corroborates one published by London-based market analysts IHS Markit, adding the pricing element to the mix. More importantly, this is the second report to state that the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2019 display will not be an OLED product. Instead, it will be an LCD to the tune of a 3,072 x 1,920 pixel resolution, which would give the display a rather competitive 226 pixels per inch (ppi) rating and a total of 5.9 million pixels. LCD or not, this is going to be a sharp 3K display. Will that alone be enough to justify such an exorbitant starting price? Hardly. There are surely other features that Apple has cooking for this device. We know that Apple is planning to allow this MacBook Pro up to 32GB of memory (RAM), which is already possible on the 15-inch MacBook Pro. And, of course, every report mentions an entirely new design likely focused on smaller screen bezels. Exactly what kind of processor technology will be inside these laptops is also up in the air. Is Apple’s supposed ARM laptop processor to be finished in time for these new laptops? Or, will Apple go all in with AMD considering Intel’s faltering pole position in the laptop computing space? We’ll almost certainly see more about these missing MacBook Pro 2019 details as we get closer to October 2019. 21. Microsoft officially announced Xbox Project Scarlett during its E3 2019 keynote conference. It's real, and it's coming. Faster and capable of more advanced graphics than its predecessors, the next-generation hardware promises to be the most powerful games console (or perhaps consoles) in the world when it launches late in 2020 – even more so than the PS5, which is expected to hit shelves around the same time. While Microsoft has confirmed at least one game that's coming to Xbox Project Scarlett, we're fairly in the dark as to what other titles we will see hitting the platform. So without further ado, we've gathered together this handy guide to all the Xbox Project Scarlett games Microsoft has confirmed - and some that we expect to see... Who will win the next gen war? Check out Xbox Two vs PS5: predicting the futureConfirmed Xbox Scarlett titlesHalo Infinitehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/tADH4D4vRD9Dmh5xb54ck3.jpg Image credit: Microsoft Halo Infinite is currently the only title that Microsoft has actually confirmed for Xbox Project Scarlett - so we definitely know Master Chief is making the jump to the next-generation console. Not only that, but Halo Infinite will be a launch title for Project Scarlett, releasing in Holiday 2020 alongside the console (or consoles). It's not particularly a surprise, considering Master Chief has served as the face of Xbox for nearly 18 years... Suspected Xbox Scarlett titlesCyberpunk 2077http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/rLh7Dh7EKo8F6zmDtXYp8W.jpg Image credit: CD Projekt Red CD Projekt Red has already confirmed that its dystopian cyberpunk title is being developed with next-generation consoles in mind. In an interview with VG247 last year, CD Projekt Red revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 will be able to work with future gaming technology. “Next gen hasn’t been announced yet, so we can only speculate,” CD Projekt Red president Adam Kiciński explained. “Technology-wise, Cyberpunk is very advanced. Our technology is ready to interface with future generations. “The game is developed in such a way that it can use very powerful future equipment." With Cyberpunk 2077 due for release in April 2020, and Xbox Project Scarlett not due to launch until late 2020, it's likely that it'll be a cross-generation title - but this is still open to speculation. We think it's safe to say it seems like Cyberpunk 2077 will be a Xbox Project Scarlett game. Starfieldhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Qs9U9bNd7mDyfudbVh2Y4C.jpg Image credit: Bethesda Bethesda has quite a lot of projects in the works, but the one we seem to know the least about is Starfield. All we know so far is that Starfield is the gaming behemoth's first new IP in 25 years and will be a single player RPG set in outer space. Having only seen an announcement trailer, we don't expect Starfield to release until at least 2020 which means it will land in the prime window to become an Xbox Project Scarlett game. Bethesda hasn't let slip if this will be the case, but it seems likely we will be venturing into Bethesda's galaxy on next-generation consoles. The Elder Scrolls 6http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/NsbvE7CSdoihJpfyHvNgwT.jpg Image credit: Bethesda As we said, Bethesda has been pretty busy behind the scenes since E3 2018. Not only is Starfield on the cards, but the long-awaited Elder Scrolls 6 has also been confirmed to be in the works. Bethesda's Todd Howard has already stated that The Elder Scrolls 6 won't be coming out until after Starfield. So it'll be a while before we venture into Tamriel again, likely on next-generation consoles. Grand Theft Auto 6http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/kTR95sJSh9iyfWdnRruztd.jpg Image credit: Rockstar Games Ok, yes, we are being a bit hopeful here - mainly because Grand Theft Auto 6 has not been announced by Rockstar Games. But it's almost guaranteed that we will see a new instalation in the Grand Theft Auto series, and it's not going to be for a while. Therefore, it is likely that a release date will fall into the next generation, making GTA 6 a Project Scarlett game. Final Fantasy 7 Remakehttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/gPm2WzMKQbJzRWxLwukKCF.jpg Image credit: Square Enix Again, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake has not been confirmed to be an Xbox Project Scarlett game but Square Enix has confirmed the title will come to PS4 first - with an Xbox One and PC release likely in the future . Given the age of the Xbox One, and the ambitious nature of the game - it's coming in multiple episodes across a multi-year release schedule - a cross-generation title with next-gen platforms isn't out of the question. So we're definitely hoping to see the Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Xbox Project Scarlett. 22. As the Windows 7 end of life approaches, new research from the endpoint management and security company 1E has revealed that many organizations remain significantly behind in completing their Windows 10 migration. The firm found 32 percent of endpoints were left unconverted which raises serious questions about the risks organizations are willing to take when it comes to cybersecurity. According to the report, 82 percent of organizations say security is a motivating factor in completing the migration yet over half (56 percent) acknowledge that it is just not happening quickly enough. Windows 7 warns users that the end is nighWindows 7 users are still refusing to upgrade to Windows 10How to prepare for Windows 7 End of LifeThe retail, distribution and transport industries are the furthest behind with just 65 percent of devices migrated but financial services, public sector, construction and property, and media, leisure and entertainment are just slightly ahead at 66 percent. Windows 10 updatesWhile many organizations have not completed their Windows 10 migration, 1E warns that of those who have, maintaining Windows 10 with its massive bi-annual updates could still prove problematic without the right tools. The company's CEO Sumir Karayi explained how automated endpoint management solutions could help organizations deal with Microsoft's frequent updates, saying: “If you’re already struggling with Windows 10 migration, you will continue to struggle even more with the updates, and it all comes down to the same problem: a lack of endpoint reach and control. It’s clear organizations still have a long way to go and not much time left to get there. Investing in an automated endpoint management solution today can give you a massive jumpstart on migration and set you up for a much fewer headaches when the first updates roll out.” Of those surveyed, nearly 80 percent said that software migration automation is the top cybersecurity investment their organizations must make in the next year. If you're organization has not yet migrated to Windows 10, now is the time to do so as Windows 7 end of life is quickly approaching and January 14th, 2020 is just around the corner. Tired of Windows? 23. Long after Siri, Cortana, Alexa, Bixby and a half-dozen others, Pandora has finally launched a 'voice assistant' helper of its own called Voice Mode for its iOS and Android apps that will begin rolling out to devices starting today. Voice Mode was unveiled at CES earlier this year, and entered into early beta with a small percentage of users having access to the update. Now it's available to everyone. Voice Mode, which is really a set of specified voice commands rather than a robust assistant in the vein of Siri or Alexa, can be activated by saying “Hey Pandora” while the app is open. Powered by SoundHound's Houndify Voice AI platform, Voice Mode is designed to play a specific artist, album, radio station or playlist when asked to, but it can also be used to match your mood when you give it commands like “play music for relaxing” or “play workout music”. This request is then personalized by Pandora's algorithm and you'll then hear a personalized result that's tailored to your music tastes... sometimes. In our short time playing around with the app, results were hit or miss. Some requests went smoothly (asking “Hey Pandora, who is this?” was a useful feature when we weren’t right next to our phone) while others - like “Hey Pandora, give this song a thumbs up” or "Hey Pandora, play today's latest hits" - didn’t really work as intended. Don't worry, Siri, you're safe for now. Putting the 'personal' back in personal assistantsWhat separates Pandora’s Voice Mode apart from the other umpteen competing helpers already on the market is that it will return personalized results. Ask it to play new music, for example, and it will play new music that it knows you’ll like, rather than feeding you the same new music playlist it feeds everyone else. If you've been using Pandora's app to listen to podcasts, you'll even be able to apply the service's patented personalization algorithm to get its assistant to recommend new podcasts based on what you've already heard. Rolling Voice Mode out to iOS and Android is really just the first step for Pandora’s 'virtual helper' – it could really come into its own if Pandora decides to deploy it on smart speakers sometime down the road. If you want to check out the Pandora personal assistant for yourself, download the Pandora app and press the search icon in the top right-hand corner. 24. Windows 10 updates keep coming whether you install them or not. They generally bring a whole host of bug fixes and new features, but they've also been known to come with their own share of issues. While we don't know what possible problems next year's Windows 10 Version 20H1 will introduce, we've got some details on the new features coming. Builds of Version 20H1 have been available to Fast Ring Insider testers since early this year, and that's made plenty of information available. We're going to lay out all of the most exciting, interesting, and generally useful features that are coming up in Windows 10 20H1 within – you guessed it – the first half of 2020. Cut to the chaseWhat is it? Windows 10 20H1 is next major version of WindowsWhen is it out? Windows 10 20H1 is expected in the first half of 2020How much does it cost? Windows 10 20H1 will be free for all usersWindows 10 20H1 brings a new lookWe've seen more than one hint that Version 20H1 could be making a move toward a more rounded design instead of the sharp angles seen currently in Windows 10. This would extend from windows and buttons to sliders and pop-up dialog boxes. This would work to provide some more consistency between the desktop user interface and apps, as well as aligning it more with modern web and app style. This change isn't certain though, but has been hinted at more than once. Windows 10 20H1 brings new virtual desktop namesWhen you make virtual desktops in Windows 10 right now, they get rather unhelpful, numbered names: Desktop 1, Desktop 2, etc. Version 20H1 should introduce the option to create custom names for each virtual desktop. So, if you use virtual desktops to separate work and play or various projects, you can make sure each is clearly labeled for which project each is dedicated to. And, as Windows Central notes, the custom virtual desktops can be saved so they aren't reset after each reboot. Windows 10 20H1 brings commitment to Windows HelloMany computers are now built with fingerprint scanners or advanced cameras that provide facial recognition to work with Windows Hello. This lets you sign on without a password, but Windows still requires a password for the account even if you don't have to use it to sign on every time. The 20H1 update may include an option to make your device password-less, letting it exclusively rely on Windows Hello for signing into your Microsoft account, Windows Central reports. 25. Ahead of the launch of Facebook Libra, a new investigation by The Washington Post has discovered a dozen accounts, pages and groups on both Facebook and Instagram that claim to be official hubs of the social networking giant's new cryptocurrency. Some of these fraudulent pages even advertise that they are selling Libra at a discount through third-party websites despite the fact that Facebook's new digital currency is currently slated for a 2020 launch. Given its experience with cryptocurrency related scams in the past, the social network should have been prepared that fraudsters would take advantage of Libra. Facebook reveals new Libra cryptocurrencyOpera builds cryptocurrency wallet into browserJP Morgan launches bank-backed cryptocurrencyHowever, Washington Post's investigation into fake Libra pages has revealed that Facebook wasn't prepared and to make matters worse, the news comes at a time when the company is facing increased government and public scrutiny over its plan to launch its own cryptocurrency. Libra scamsThe scammers trying to impersonate Facebook used the company's official logo, Libra's official marketing images and even photos of CEO Mark Zuckerberg to appear more legitimate according to the Washington Post's findings. For instance, one page contained links to a site called BuyLibraCoins.com that was both well-designed and even included links to buy Libra tokens even though they have yet to have been released. On the other hand, other pages appear to have been setup to reserve important Libra brand names for future use. In addition to fake pages on Facebook and Instagram, the investigation also discovered an influx of scam pages and videos on Twitter and YouTube regarding Libra. Facebook has now removed many of the pages discovered by the publication but this is likely not the last we'll hear of Libra scams as we get closer to the launch of the social network's cryptocurrency.
