http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBCNews/samsung-knox-s6-470-75.jpgOne of the minor announcements at today's Samsung Unpacked event was that the companyís new flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge would be bundled with Knox, the company's own business security solutions. The upgraded Knox offers, in Samsung's own words, defence-grade features for real-time protection from potential malicious attacks. Gregory Wade, VP Samsung Knox, claimed that it offered the "best security on market" and would work out of the box by integrating with a much wider range of MDMs including BlackBerry, Airwatch and MobileIron amongst others. Microsoft also on boardSamsung also quietly bundled Microsoft's Skype, Onenote and OneDrive applications with the new smartphones. All three are free and Microsoft even offered 100GB extra storage for two years. Other features that Samsung has integrated in the S6 to make it more appealing to a more affluent business audience include an enhanced fingerprint scanner, a reactivation lock and advanced tokenisation. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBC/Abstract/Magnifying%20glass%20on%20danger/Magnifying%20glass%20on%20danger-470-75.jpgAlmost everyone is more concerned about cyber attacks the year than they were this time last year although most are failing to take extra steps to protecting themselves online. GFI Software's 2015 UK Cyber Security Survey found that 90 per cent are more concerned this year than they were last year with the biggest worry that cyber espionage or terrorism would make our lives more difficult or result in personal data being pilfered. Whilst 43 per cent were concerned about the difficulty an attack could cause and 40 per cent worried about data being stolen there were also a sizeable number (34 per cent) fearful about a cyber attack escalating into a real world scenario. 31 per cent, meanwhile, were concerned it will affect business, 21 per cent expressed a fear it could affect all of their connected devices and just nine per cent aren't worried about cyber terrorism. When it came to protecting their online security, just 28 per cent stated they have enabled two-factor authentication, under half (48 per cent) have enabled a password or PIN on a mobile device, and just 46 per cent avoid using the same password for different services. The most common method of protection is to regularly change passwords (57 per cent) or update anti-virus software (52 per cent). Business will winOn the whole those surveyed didn't seem too alarmed by their company being affected by an attack; a similar number said it could have major and minor consequences (45 per cent and 44 per cent respectively). However, both groups agreed that business would win out in the end. People are right to be worried about cybercrime considering that various projections show it will remain a big problem, however, with an extra bit of vigilance it can be stifled. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBC/Abstract/Government/Parliament/WST304.lb_news.london.resized-470-75.jpgThe UK government will add a host of new categories to its G-Cloud Digital Marketplace when the seventh itineration of the popular cloud procurement service kicks off later this year. A document compiled by Sage to assist newcomers to the public sector procurement portal revealed that print and print management, and science, technology and research are two of the newcomers to a service that is expected to have generated some £3 billion in sales by 2016. When G-Cloud 7 opens in June 2015, those two new categories will also be joined by advertising and media; energy and utilities; fire services and equipment; police services and equipment; travel; and welfare to work, as part of the expansion. Total UK government spending on IT services is estimated at around £11 billion per year and G-Gloud has already generated £350 million through the first five versions with the number expected to increase to £1.5 billion in 2015 and then double to £3 billion in 2016. Any company looking to join the party must fit in to one of the four categories or "lots" to be listed, which are Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, Software as a Service, or Specialist Cloud Services. 13,000 services listedSage also provides a handy seven-step guide to the process that companies must go through to be approved as a G-Cloud provider and gives some hints on how to succeed in the Digital Marketplace such as remembering to include keywords, explaining why your service will be of benefit and providing clear pricing information. With thousands of services listed on the Digital Marketplace the salient advice from Sage is worth considering as standing out from the pack is just as important as in any other line of business and the rewards at stake for SMEs have the potential to be rather large. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBCfeatures/antispyware/SuperAntiSpyware-470-75.jpgIntroduction, Malwarebytes, AdAwareProtecting your computer from damaging spyware, adware and malware is crucial to make sure your PC runs as quickly as possible whilst at the same time ensuring that your information isn't compromised. Thankfully there are plenty of diverse programs out there that can protect your PC in varying different ways and the best part about it all is that most come with some sort of free elements included. Even with a plethora of features behind the paywall, there are a number of excellent programs available and the best five free anti-spyware software programs are outlined here. Malwarebytes Anti-MalwareWhen it comes to an extensive solution that gets to the bottom of any malware, adware or spyware on your system, there aren't many that come close to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. At its heart is an extensive scanning solution that combs through your PCs nooks and crannies in one of two ways. The Threat Scan looks in the places it knows threats hide in order to safeguard your PC whereas the Custom Scan can be adjusted to look for bugs in places specified by the user. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/TRBCfeatures/antispyware/mlwarebytes-420-90.jpg The scan takes some time as it goes over every file and once it is done presents you with a list of threats and you either deal with them all individually or select the quarantine all option. Users will find a range of other options in the settings menu such as the ability to specify files, and folders that should not be scanned, and the opportunity to change detection and protection options. You will also notice the sheer number of features that aren't included in the freeware version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware such as advanced website protection, online backups and the chance to schedule scans. The amount of things behind the paywall is one of the only drawbacks of MalwareBytes Anti-Malware that provides a simple way to protect your computer from the ills of the internet. Ad-Aware Free Antivirus+Many anti-spyware programs come as part of a cover-all-bases anti-virus package and Ad-Aware Free Antivirus+ is no different in that sense. After the initial installation, which is an admittedly rather long one, only because it carries out a virus scan on your computer, Ad-Aware can be largely left to run in the background. Scanning-wise there are three options that include a quick scan of active processes, full scan of everything on your PC, or a custom scan of user defined locations with all three designed to find spyware that you can then choose to quarantine. Protection against spyware goes further than that still through a real-time protection engine that stops viruses before they have a chance to enter your PC. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/TRBCfeatures/antispyware/ad-aware-free-420-90.jpg All of this can be protected by a four digit PIN code to stop other users modifying any settings, however, it's negligible due to the fact that there aren't really any settings in the free version, except for turning off real-time protection, that make it worth setting one up. Ad-Aware Web Companion also comes as part of the package, which warns you about malicious or dangerous websites before you get onto them, although there are so many other features behind the paywall that Ad-Aware Free Antivirus+ is little more than a virus scanner with anti-spyware protection. Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware, Trend MicroSpybot Search & DestroyIs this the first anti-spyware program on the list to offer all its features for free? Sadly Spybot Search & Destroy is not this program, although the free version is an excellent way for any beginners to get started with an anti-spyware program. Upon opening Spybot Search & Destroy for the first time it prompts you to update the trove of malware signatures kept by the program to try and prevent any malicious software from entering your system. The other window that opens is the start centre, which is the nerve centre of everything that Spybot Search & Destroy can do. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/TRBCfeatures/antispyware/Spybot-Search-Destroy-420-90.jpg From here you can initiate scans of either the system or individual files and folders, prepare a whitelist of files or sites, and quarantine or apply prevention to your browser to prevent infections in the future. Even when you switch on the advanced options the icons are nice and big plus when you hover over them with the mouse pointer it gives an explanation in terms easy for absolute beginners to understand. There are obviously a couple of things that aren't included in the free version, including the system repair, secure shredder, and chance to create a boot disk. This shouldn't put you off what is a good program for any beginners looking for a good level of protection against malicious software. SuperAntiSpyware Free EditionSpyware scanners often come with a lot of other nifty gadgets that you don't really need and for those that want a basic scanner and nothing else, SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition fits the bill. Before installation be careful during the process to uncheck various options as otherwise it will automatically install Google Chrome and make it your default browser. Although if you want this option then by all means go ahead. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/TRBCfeatures/antispyware/SuperAntiSpyware-420-90.jpg Its very limited set of features means that you can click to scan the computer or use system tools to repair parts that may be infected with spyware. You can either choose to carry out a complete scan, quick scan, critical point scan that focuses on active infections, or custom scan to look at user-defined locations. There are also a number of other parameters including the ability to activate scan boost, scan inside browser tracking cookies and to only scan recently modified files, These advanced options give it a leg up on other scanners. SuperAntiSpyware's scan also uncovered a lot more in the way of adware and tracking cookies than the other scanners suggesting that it is the most effective option out there. Some of the system tools on offer are also extremely helpful including a SUPERDelete File Removal tool that helps to uninstall programs and a repair suite that fixes registry damage caused by malware. For a small program it certainly packs a punch and after performing so well in weeding out adware we'd be hard pressed to say a lot against SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition. Trend Micro HijackThisFrom one of the renowned names of the free anti-virus world, Trend Micro HijackThis works to prevent malicious programs from attacking your system registry. There's not much to Trend Micro HijackThis except for a system scanner that goes deep down into your system, finds problems and then allows you to fix them. After a scan has been initiated the results are presented in a matter of seconds and you can then choose to fix them. One annoying thing here is that you have to go through and check the box next to every item to fix it instead of just being able to fix all the problems in one fell swoop. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/TRBCfeatures/antispyware/trend-micro-hijack-this-420-90.jpg The way the results are presented can also seem confusing for anyone without a detailed system know-how. One good addition is the config section that includes a process manager, host file manager, NT service deletion tool, ADS spy and an uninstall manager. For anti-spyware ability alone Trend Micro HijackThis falls down due to the fact it doesn't allow you to fix all problems at the same time although it still finds problems, the benchmark for all anti-spyware programs. http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/669/f/415085/s/43dba2c3/sc/4/mf.gif http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166605207/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43dba2c3/sc/4/rc/1/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166605207/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43dba2c3/sc/4/rc/2/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166605207/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43dba2c3/sc/4/rc/3/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166605207/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43dba2c3/sc/4/a2.imghttp://pi.feedsportal.com/r/222166605207/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43dba2c3/sc/4/a2t.img

http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/other/Onetimers/google_wallet_update-470-75.jpgWearables and self-driving cars might not be the only stars of Google I/O 2015, the May conference where the search company may launch a new mobile payment service called "Android Pay." With Google Wallet losing ground thanks to the rise of Apple Pay, Google will attempt to revive the platform by introducing Android Pay, reports Ars Technica. Smart TV in a stick, Chromecast is brilliantUnlike Apple Pay and Google Wallet, though, Android Pay won't be limited to a single official app, but an API that developers can use to add one-tap payment features to their own apps, the site's source said. It will reportedly let developers take advantage of mobile devices' NFC capabilities through Android's Host Card Emulation (HCE) feature, enabling users to make purchases online and in retail stores using third-party apps. CoexistenceGoogle Wallet will continue to exist separately from Android Pay, but it will be easy for users to connect their Wallet accounts to apps that use Android Pay, the source said. However, the Google Wallet connection won't be required - that is, you won't need a Wallet account to use Android Pay apps. It's unclear how this is all connected with Google's acquisition of intellectual property and other tech from mobile payment coalition SoftCard, which was revealed just two days ago - but there can be little doubt that it is connected in some way. Whatever it is, it seems we'll know more by the end of May. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/software/Start10/ss_win7modern-470-75.jpgAfter listening to complaints from Windows 8 adopters, Microsoft is bringing back the coveted Start menu to Windows 10. Currently available as a Technical Preview, Windows 10's new Start menu merges the Live Tiles of Windows 8 along with the more classic look of Windows 7. However, if you find the new Start screen a little cluttered, Stardock's new Start10 will take you back to the simpler times of Windows 7. Available now as a beta, Start10 hides the Live Tiles from Microsoft's native Windows 10 Start menu. Start10 also incorporates a system-wide search feature that Microsoft is implementing on Windows 10 through Cortana's search feature. The comprehensive search feature allows users to quickly find apps, settings and files in the search field inside the Start10 menu. You can also skin the appearance of the start button to give you further desktop customization. StardockStardock made a name for itself when Windows 8 debuted. After users bemoaned the absence of the familiar Start menu, Stardock introduced Start8 as a way to bring back the Windows 7-styled Start menu. The company subsequently released a number of Windows tweaks for Microsoft's touch-centric OS, including the ability to run Modern UI apps inside resizeable windows through ModernMix. With Windows 10, ModernMix and Start8 may seem redundant as the basic functionality from Stardock's tweaks are native inside the OS. Start10 is a nice way for Stardock to differentiate its software tweaks from what Microsoft is supporting to give users more choice. AvailabilityStardock is offering Start10 to its Object Desktop users currently. Object Desktop is currently available for $49.99 or for $9.99 with a subscription cost of $3.00 per month thereafter. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/mobile_phones/HTC/M9/Leaks/HTC_One_M9_upleaks_cropped-470-75.jpgWe're not saying this is the definitive look at HTC's next flagship smartphone, but the latest pair of renders out of China sure seem to be lightly salted with a hint of authenticity. PhoneArena today published a pair of images that appear to be marketing materials for the forthcoming HTC One M9, which the company is expected to make official on March 1, mere hours before MWC 2015 kicks off in Barcelona next week. Similar to M9 renders originating from Germany last weekend, the pair of new images provided by the @upleaks Twitter account (1, 2) appear to throw cold water on the idea of a centered front-facing camera as shown in some earlier leaks. In fact, there's not an awful lot to separate this purported M9 from its predecessor, last year's flagship HTC One M8, aside from potentially ever-so slimmer front bezels and what appears to be a single rear-facing camera with dual-LED flash. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/mobile_phones/HTC/M9/Leaks/HTC_One_M9_upleaks-2-420-90.jpg Same as it ever was?Despite some initial confusion over leaked renders, the general consensus among HTC One M9 watchers is that the Taiwanese manufacturer appears to be spending more time on what's inside the smartphone, rather than attempting to reinvent the wheel externally. Speaking of inside being what counts, previous rumors have pointed to an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB RAM, a spacious 2900 mAh battery and improved BoomSound speakers, not to mention 32GB of internal storage capable of being expanded via micro-SD card. The M9 is also said to come packing a five-inch, 1080p HD display, but if that's not big enough for you, the rumored HTC One M9 Plus is said to up the ante to 5.2 inches at 1440 x 5260 pixels, and toss a fingerprint scanner into the mix. As you bask in the warm glow of these new leaks, we'd advise taking them with a grain of salt, same as most other images that slip through the cracks - especially when the real deal is coming 'round the mountain so soon. http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/669/f/415085/s/43c0435e/sc/28/mf.gif http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166489412/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43c0435e/sc/28/rc/1/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166489412/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43c0435e/sc/28/rc/2/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166489412/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43c0435e/sc/28/rc/3/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166489412/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43c0435e/sc/28/a2.imghttp://pi.feedsportal.com/r/222166489412/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43c0435e/sc/28/a2t.img

http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/software/Android/Android%20L/Android%205.1/android51leak-470-75.jpgAndroid One owners abroad have already gotten a taste of the next Android update on their entry-level devices, and as a result, details are leaking about how Google may address some of its little quirks. PhoneArena today reported that the upcoming Android 5.1 update to Android 5.0 Lollipop will apparently take aim at a number of nagging issues related to the look and feel of Google's mobile operating system. Rumors have pegged a release across the rest of the planet for next month, although it's unclear why Google is remaining so secretive about the point-one update, which includes making the factory images unavailable to developers and end users for now. Thanks to an early release on a handful of low-end handsets now available in the Philippines, we have a clearer idea of some of the visual flourishes and little improvements being planned for the next Lollipop update. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/software/Android/Android%20L/Android%205.1/Android_hide_invert_colors-420-90.jpg Tap, hold, hideGoogle+ user @AnjoCerdeña posted an image of one such change that enables Android users to hide quick settings that have inadvertently become activated, specifically Invert Colors and Wi-Fi Hotspot. Android 5.0 Lollipop users have already discovered that the aforementioned quick settings can't be removed - at least not without trickery, such as changing the date and time on the afflicted handset. Google engineers apparently hope to address this unintuitive "feature" with the ability to hide such settings once they've been accidentally triggered, which can be done with a tap and hold on the option in question. Last week, an HTC executive appeared to confirm that Google plans to roll out Android 5.1 in March, an update also expected to restore silent mode, improve RAM management, solve notification issues, and a raft of other improvements. http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/669/f/415085/s/43bfdce3/sc/4/mf.gif http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166504635/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43bfdce3/sc/4/rc/1/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166504635/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43bfdce3/sc/4/rc/2/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166504635/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43bfdce3/sc/4/rc/3/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/222166504635/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43bfdce3/sc/4/a2.imghttp://pi.feedsportal.com/r/222166504635/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43bfdce3/sc/4/a2t.img

http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBC/Generic/Hands%20on%20phone/Handsonphone-470-75.jpgMobile enterprise apps boost productivity by enabling employees, customers and partners to complete tasks and advance processes at any time, and any place. However, developing mobile enterprise apps requires a new mind-set as they are very different from enterprise apps made for desktops. One of the key differences is the mobile user experience. With this in mind, Magic Software held a roundtable recently with a variety of mobility experts from around the world to discover the characteristics of a good user experience for mobile enterprise apps. The discussion also explored the differences between user interface and user experience, and the relative importance of look and feel versus performance. Participants included a Senior Analyst and mobile blogger, the CEO of an award-winning design agency, a leading usability and user experience consultant, along with the General Manager of Magic's UK and Nordic branch. Despite the variety of different backgrounds and experiences among the participants, there was a strong consensus on common characteristics of successful mobile apps. Leverage mobile to add valueMobile apps must be far more than simplified desktop apps. Added value is essential in order for an app to win over users. According to Benny Oberlender, VP at Puzzlehead design and UX consultancy, some of the most important factors in creating a good user experience for mobile enterprise apps include understanding the context of use and utilising the technical capabilities of the mobile device – maps, GPS, camera, phone calls, scanning and the like. But even more than that he adds: "In addition [to] being simple, easy and fun to use, it should anticipate my needs and add value in new ways I didn't expect." Kevin Benedict, mobile blogger and Senior Analyst for Digital Transformation at Cognizant, expanded on this concept: "My experience can also be impacted by how context aware the application is to my Code Halo (personal data, roles, responsibilities, assigned tasks, etc). Rather than wait for a request, I want the app to predict my needs based on its understanding of me." Performance is criticalHere, the discussion came forth from the question of whether it was more important for a mobile enterprise app to look good or to perform well. All agreed that enterprise apps need to look good – but while some said the two were equally important, others said that performance was indeed of greater importance. "The visual design of the app affects the level of trust in the system and raises the degree of pleasure users get from it over time. But in order to prevent frustration from the user, it is important to have an app that performs well and is responsive, works offline and is always available to the user," explained Benny Oberlender. "Mobile apps won't be used if they have frequent disconnects or fail to handle session conflicts," added David Akka, Managing Director at Magic. Summing it up, Idit Mishan, CEO at the award-winning design agency Dogma and Yangrin, said: "You either create an app that works well AND looks good, or don't develop the app at all." Intuitive usage of device features is a mustWhile everyone agreed that mobile enterprise apps should be simple and easy to use, the question was raised as to the importance of using native device clients and capabilities to create a familiar user experience. While the natural answer is to use native clients with native development technologies, there are more flexible and economical ways to accomplish this using HTML5 development and multi-platform app development tools. Dave Akka explained: "It's all about familiarity. The OS and device have their own conventions and breaking that feels odd for the user. The better a new app fits the user's expected conventions, the less of a learning curve it involves and the more adoption you'll get." Idit Mishan added: "I can't say it is mandatory to use native clients; there are companies who innovate and create new usage patterns. But sometimes, it's a good decision to follow an already existing structure … and use native elements for a better user experience and for a better chance of a successful app." Kevin Benedict called out the need to factor costs into the equation: "The amount of value you receive from developing in a native environment versus HTML5 should be considered against the far higher total cost of ownership of developing the same mobile app in a native environment for three different operating systems." Dave Akka was quick to point out that it isn't an either/or scenario. "Tools like Magic's multi-channel application platform make it economical to create and maintain native applications as well as hybrid HTML5 applications." Integration issuesIntegration with back-office systems shouldn't be an afterthought. Enterprise apps are about advancing business processes, thus they require integration with backend systems. The interactions with these systems, whether real-time transactions, visualisation of data and/or synchronising data between systems, is an integral part of the user experience and needs to be considered from the outset. "User experience includes everything that happens behind the scenes: integration, reliability, security, and authentication," explained Magic's David Akka. "It is imperative to consider data feeds and queries that are impacted by backend systems and integrations," commented Kevin Benedict. "All of the features have an important influence on performance and contribute to the user experience." Need for a strong ROIThe dynamic mobile and business environments mean that designers and developers need to quickly deploy many apps that will need constant updating. Numbers, time-to-market, updating and maintenance costs need to factor in the ROI calculation. "A positive ROI cannot be reached with small numbers of users if too much time and money is spent on design," commented Kevin Benedict. "You should deliver the best mobile app and experience as possible given the numbers of users involved." "A weekly or bi-weekly update cycle is what is expected from mobile apps," added David Akka. "Organisations that don't keep up with that are putting their apps in danger of being labelled as out-of-touch." Apps that are deemed a success bring value, utilise the device features users are familiar with, and can respond rapidly to dynamic business processes and changes in technology. Successful mobile apps not only deliver ROI based on increased efficiencies, but they also create strong user loyalty and enthusiasm for the value that IT brings. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBCNews/office365-email-retention-470-75.jpgMicrosoft has delivered an update to Office 365 for Exchange Online users that means emails will no longer be deleted automatically after 30 days. Up until now deleted items were moved into the folder of the same name before disappearing after 30 days and the new update allows the system administrator to set this period to indefinitely or another preferred duration. Office 365 administrators will see the default MRM policy change for everyone using Exchange Online and any administrators that want to opt out of the policy can do so by changing the policy name in Office 365 by going to Office 365 Admin settings. Long-term retention now a realityTo do that, once in the settings you select Exchange admin center > compliance management > retention policies and from there select default MRM policy, edit and change the name to avoid the update. The advent of the cloud means that long-term data retention for items such as enterprise emails is more of a possibility going forwards and Microsoft will hope that offering this means that enterprise customers will remain on board with its email offering. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBCfeatures/Firewalls/Comodo-470-75.jpgLenovo is not the only one in adware hot water after separate reports accuse two antivirus software providers of using a similar exploit to Superfish. Reports implicate both Lavasoft and Comodo in schemes that use secure socket layer (SSL) technology in different ways but are mainly focused on monitoring SSL traffic in some shape or form. In the first case, Lavasoft's Ad-aware Web Companion was found to include the SSL-interception technology sold by Komodia that was at the heart of Superfish and 14 other programs. The proxy software works by tricking browsers into trusting any self-signed certificate and Lavasoft put it inside the Web Companion to intercept and monitor SSL traffic. Comodo's case, meanwhile, involves its Internet Security suite that comes with PrivDog built in, which apparently makes browsers trust any self-signed certificate and leaves users open to man-in-the-middle attacks and complete bypasses of HTTPS protection. Still out there?PrivDog is, according to Comodo, a piece of software that bolsters security by taking ads from web pages and replacing them with ads from sources that are trusted. Lavasoft has so far been unable to confirm if the compromised part of Komodia SSL Digestor has been fully removed whereas Comodo has not come out publicly to comment on the PrivDog software. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/software/google_wallet-470-75.jpgTired of feeling like second-class citizens next to Apple Pay, contactless mobile payment pioneers Google Wallet and Softcard have teamed up with three of the nation's largest wireless carriers. The Google Commerce Blog today announced plans to ramp up adoption of Google Wallet, the near-field communication (NFC) based mobile payment technology first introduced in 2011. Rather than attempt to compete with carrier-backed rival Softcard against the Apple Pay behemoth, Google has chosen to partner with the service formerly known as ISIS Mobile Wallet. A joint venture between US carriers AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless, Softcard will relinquish "some exciting technology and intellectual property" to Google Wallet, which will soon come preinstalled on Android 4.4 KitKat or higher smartphones sold by the three carriers. Strength in numbersHaving Google Wallet already installed on new Android handsets could presumably go a long way toward fending off Apple Pay, which is baked right into iOS 8.1 on Touch ID-enabled iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones, as well as the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. The move also gives Google Wallet a whiff of legitimacy, given the service has a somewhat checkered history with US carriers (we're looking at you, Verizon) who favored their own competing Softcard technology. The announcement specifically singles out the "tap and pay functionality" of Google Wallet will be a big part of the mix when AT&T, T-Mobile US and Verizon begin offering the app preinstalled on Android devices later this year. In the wake of Apple Pay's launch last fall, Google Wallet and Softcard also faced setbacks as major US retailers such as CVS and Rite Aid blocked all three tap-and-pay services from stores in favor of a fourth competitor known as CurrentC, which has yet to hit the market. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/car%20tech/AndroidAuto/android-auto-calls-470-75.jpgSilicon Valley is quickly shifting gears to create software capable of powering the next generation of automobile dashboards, but at least one Japanese automaker plans to keep that work entirely in-house for the time being. As part of a larger piece documenting Google and Apple's efforts to power car dashboards, The New York Times reported Sunday that Toyota "currently has no plans" to adopt either tech titan's automotive platform in the United States. Toyota's National Manager of Environmental, Safety & Quality Communications John Hanson confirmed that neither Android Auto nor CarPlay were on the automaker's roadmap, despite frequent talks with both Google and Apple. "We may all eventually wind up there, but right now we prefer to use our in-house proprietary platforms for those kinds of functions," Hanson said. Bumps in the roadToyota certainly isn't dismissing the concept of incorporating smartphones into automobile dashboards, which are being positioned as one of the next great battlegrounds between industry heavyweights like Google and Apple. Unlike Toyota, automakers like General Motors, Audi and Japanese rivals such as Honda and Hyundai were quick to jump on the Android Auto bandwagon, which is now backed by nearly two dozen manufacturers. Many of these brands intend to also throw their support behind Apple's CarPlay, a competing system exclusive to the iPhone, while Android Auto works with a variety of smartphones running Google's mobile operating system. Both of the voice-activated dashboard platforms have been slow to roll off the assembly lines, with Ford estimating all of its vehicles sold in the US will incorporate either Android Auto or CarPlay into the automaker's SYNC system by the end of 2016. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/DOWNLOADS/office/pptPlex-470-75.jpgGet way beyond the limitations that Microsoft PowerPoint holds over you by creating presentations that aren't simply a long range of slides with pptPlex. Why you need itMicrosoft PowerPoint is one of the best presentation creating programs out there yet the key cog of Office 365 has its flaws and among them is that when presenting you are limited to a long series of slides with nothing outside that. pptPlex blasts that limitation out of the water by giving you the chance to divide the presentations up into sections and zoom in/out of slides one at a time to make what you're presenting jump off the screen more than is already the case. The experimental add-on runs on every version of Office, even the 2016 incarnation, and works by using PowerPoint's ability to divide presentations up into sections to create a canvas covering all the slides that is an attractive alternative to the traditional slide show. Once you click on the pptPlex tab inside PowerPoint you can immediately get to work on creating a presentation that stands out from the crowd by picking a background style to fit your brief. Custom backgrounds are ideal for a number of situations including timelines across a year, setting goals for the coming months and a lot more. You can even leave the background white if you really want to! After picking a background insert your slides and see how pptPlex works by first overseeing the section before zooming in to each individual slide for more detail. There's even the chance to set it up so that it zooms in to individual words or charts on slides to give extra detail if there are intricate details that need to be shown to viewers from a distance. Going down even deeper you can customise the transitions between sections and slides as well as create your own custom canvases that can be personalised to your company or download any of he hundreds of canvases created by other pptPlex users. Downloading pptPlex will leave you wondering two things: 1) where has this been all your life, and 2) how is it free? Key features:Works on: All versions of Microsoft Office, including Office 2016 Versions: Free Hammer Home Points: Zoom in on the key points you want to make so they stick in the mind of the audience. Unsurpassed Customisation: Create your own custom canvases to give your business presentations a touch of customisation that cannot be achieved by PowerPoint on its own. http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/669/f/415085/s/43a16fe8/sc/4/mf.gif http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612076726/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43a16fe8/sc/4/rc/1/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612076726/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43a16fe8/sc/4/rc/2/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612076726/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43a16fe8/sc/4/rc/3/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612076726/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43a16fe8/sc/4/a2.imghttp://pi.feedsportal.com/r/218612076726/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43a16fe8/sc/4/a2t.img

http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/mobile_phones/Lenovo/Lenovo_Vibe_Shot_leak-470-75.jpgSmartphone manufacturers put a lot of faith in the annual Mobile World Congress kicking off in Barcelona on March 2, but as usual, tantalizing renders and details continue to leak out ahead of the big event. Taiwanese blog MXPhone (via Android Police) today reported that Lenovo is likely to arrive at MWC 2015 with one less surprise under its belt, thanks to a stack of images that appear to spill the beans on the company's latest Vibe lineup. Out of the five models leaked, the Lenovo Vibe Shot looks the most promising, a smartphone available in white, black or red trim and powered by a Snapdragon 615 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage, expandable via micro-SD. Featuring a five-inch 1080p HD LCD display, the Vibe Shot resembles a swanky point-and-shoot digital camera, but the 16MP sensor with optical image stabilization, tri-tone flash and physical shutter button presumably will take better snapshots. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/mobile_phones/Lenovo/Lenovo_Vibe_line_leak-420-90.jpg I feel your VibeLenovo's Vibe flagship for 2015 is the X3, with a luscious 5.5-inch 1080p display with stereo speakers encased in an all-metal frame, plus a whopping 20.7MP camera and a seemingly random fingerprint sensor located around back. However, the Vibe X3 isn't technically the biggest in the batch: That honor goes to the Lenovo Vibe Max, a six-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) monster featuring a stylus described as being close to the "same size and resolution as the Nexus 6." The report offers only scant details on the Lenovo Vibe P1 aside from the inclusion of a 4000mAh battery with quick-charge, while a beefier Vibe P1 Pro steps up the juice to 5000mAh; both models are said to include LTE and 64-bit, octa-core processors as well. Last but not least, the Lenovo Vibe S1 will be reported for duty at the low end of the spectrum, with a selfie-friendly front-facing camera and a variety of color options; all of the new Vibes will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop, but we'll have to wait for MWC 2015 to find out exactly where (probably not the US), when and for how much. http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/669/f/415085/s/439f2364/sc/28/mf.gif

http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBCfeatures/Privacy%20Software/cyberghost-470-75.jpgIntroduction, VPN Gate and Wise Folder Hider. With government snooping and hacking high on the web agenda, protecting your privacy online has never been more important and isn't tricky. Contrary to what some people tell you, downloading and installing privacy software is an incredibly cheap way to protect yourself online as most of the top privacy suites are available completely free of charge. It means that keeping you local or online information private has never been easier and what follows is a list of the five best free privacy software options for 2015. VPN Gate Client Plug-in with SoftEther VPN ClientOne of the best ways to keep your data private online is by spoofing your IP with a virtual private network (VPN) and among the highest rated is the VPN Gate Client Plug-in with SoftEther VPN Client developed by the University of Tsukuba in Japan. The SoftEther VPN interface may be daunting to some but after getting used to how it works the privacy attributes enjoyed are among some of the best available. Those working on the program have managed to source hundreds of connections in locations across the world that are all available free of charge and give peace of mind that you are working under a blanket of privacy. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/TRBCfeatures/Privacy%20Software/soft-ether-vpn-420-90.jpg Unlike other programs, SoftEther VPN, which has been open source since January 2015, creates a virtual network adapter on your Windows PC and connects to the internet through this thus giving yet another layer of privacy. Once you have connected to a servers it counts towards its score, which is displayed alongside the server name and gives you an idea of the most trustworthy VPN connections available. For even more advanced users there is the chance to create your own VPN connections using the service and anyone with an intricate knowledge of virtual connections stands to benefit even more than regular users. Anyone that wants an extensive VPN offering that you simply can't get from other more commercialised programs will find it here, and the learning curve is more than worth it in the end. Wise Folder HiderHiding folders on your PC can be incredibly hard given the wide ranging scope of the search and find offering that comes bundled with Windows and successfully bypassing thatis where Wise Folder Hider comes in. It's apparent just how protective Wise Folder Hider can be when you first start it up as it immediately prompts you to enter a password to even gain access to the program and prevents anyone with access to your PC to unlock the files and folder hidden inside. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/TRBCfeatures/Privacy%20Software/Wise-Folder-Hider-420-90.jpg Once inside you can protect files, folders or USB drives by either just simply hiding them or applying a password of your own choosing to make sure no one get their hands on your precious files. The only frustrating thing is that there is nothing else to the program than a file protector and anyone looking for online privacy protection will need to combine it with another program. When it comes to protecting files though it does the job simply and with no fuss for all users. CyberGhost, KeyScrambler and CleanUp!CyberGhost VPNAnother of the popular VPN brigade, CyberGhost VPN is an IP spoofer that allows you to mask the location you are in with another one elsewhere in the world whilst billing itself as a service that is "anonymised, protected and encrypted". CyberGhost VPN's slick interface works in the same way as any VPN you've seen before by showing your current location on a map of the world. Pull up the list underneath the simulated country to bring up a list of countries that you can change your location to and there is a large number available for free and others come as part of a premium subscription. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/TRBCfeatures/Privacy%20Software/cyberghost-420-90.jpg Once you've chosen a country click it and wait for CyberGhost VPN to do its work to spoof your location. You can go even further than that by changing the simulated IP address, if the location has more than one option, and this will enable you to pick a server that has less subscribers. To make your new location look even more genuine, CyberGhost VPN can be set up to change the browser language and it can remove the browser or operating system version. In the settings menu there are also a number of other options to further anonymise your experience including removing social plugins from the likes of Facebook and it can also block requests from tracking sites. It isn't exactly clear where the much vaunted encryption is taking place and users of a more nervous persuasion are likely to choose something else that has a clearer encryption process, although for a VPN this is as solid as they come for a freeware option. KeyScrambler PersonalQFX Software offers a number of different options for users looking to protect their privacy online and KeyScrambler Personal is a basic yet free part of their extensive portfolio. KeyScrambler Personal is a stripped down encryption service that works to do one thing, which is to encrypt everything you type into a browser. KeyScrambler Personal is turned on automatically for every browser on your system and it will pop up when you start typing to show what the output has been encrypted as. When typing text into a search engine this doesn't slow down the process at all and the fact it shows the output will give any users peace of mind if worried about how the encryption works. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/TRBCfeatures/Privacy%20Software/keyscrambler-personal-420-90.jpg The only disappointing thing about KeyScrambler Personal is just how little the unpaid version can do, although the paid options aren't on the expensive side and have enough to justify subscription for users that want to protect their privacy even further. For a program that encrypts in real-time and can even be used on machines infected with viruses this does exactly what you need if you're simply looking for browser encryption and nothing else. CleanUp!One of the other ways to protect your privacy online is to delete temporary files, something that CleanUp! does and then some. CleanUp!, which is perhaps the most dated of those on the list, is a program that gets rid of temporary files and folders, empties the recycle bin and can place secure locks on deleted files to prevent them ever being accessed again. http://mos.futurenet.com/techradar/art/TRBCfeatures/Privacy%20Software/Cleanup-420-90.jpg Its primary goal is to create more space on your computer whilst at the same time protecting your online privacy. This is done through a disk cleanup facility that has three options ranging from basic (empties recycle bin and deletes newsgroups) to thorough (the same as basic as well as deletes cookies, cleans up all users, deletes favourite places and bookmarks from all files, resets scores of standard games and fully erases files). The latter shouldn't be taken lightly as it erases your PC back to a similar states to when it was bought. When CleanUp has done its stuff it should leave you with much needed space on your PC and all this comes completely free of charge. http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/669/f/415085/s/439a3c38/sc/4/mf.gif http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612060392/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/439a3c38/sc/4/rc/1/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612060392/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/439a3c38/sc/4/rc/2/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612060392/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/439a3c38/sc/4/rc/3/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612060392/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/439a3c38/sc/4/a2.imghttp://pi.feedsportal.com/r/218612060392/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/439a3c38/sc/4/a2t.img

http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBC/Generic/Home%20working/PCA201.exp_cover.istkman-470-75.jpg"Vendor software audit" – those three words are guaranteed to make any IT manager nervous. Because once you have Microsoft, Oracle, or any other large software provider on the phone asking you to prove you have the licences your usage requires, they want the numbers, and they want them fast – often within days or weeks. Get them right, and you'll be saving your organisation a lot of money, proving your competence and perhaps making future audits less frequent. Get them wrong, and you're looking at potentially significant unplanned costs, a very unhappy boss and more intense scrutiny in the future. The rise and rise of the software auditIt's an issue that's increasingly important because vendor audits are becoming more widespread. Leading industry analysts estimate that the proportion of organisations being audited, either by industry groups or vendors themselves, has increased from around 30% five years ago to 60% now. From the vendors' perspective, that's understandable, given that the commercial value of unlicensed software on PCs alone amounted to over US$62 billion (around £40 billion, AU$80 billion), according to the 2013 BSA Global Software Survey. And yet, despite the increasing likelihood of an audit, many organisations remain underprepared to respond effectively and efficiently. Fulfilling audit requirements manually on demand is extremely complex and time-consuming. It usually sees IT admins flitting between spreadsheets, paper filing systems and purchasing records in an attempt to piece together a single version of the truth. As a result, headaches and late nights are pretty much guaranteed. And all the while resources are tied up checking licences, they can't be used to deal with other tasks, including the higher value projects, such as app development, that contribute directly to business goals. So, is there a better alternative to this kind of reactive approach? Yes! And the reasons for grasping it with both hands extend far beyond the initial fulfilment of vendor licensing requirements. Are you prepared for a Microsoft licensing audit?SAM to the rescueSoftware Asset Management (SAM) software promises to dramatically reduce the complexity and effort required in meeting software audit requirements. By integrating easily with existing systems, it enables organisations to create a central record of all the software being used, reconcile it against licences held, and automatically track ongoing usage and licence expiration – all within an automated system. With this kind of solution in place, the fear factor that usually kicks in when a vendor requests an audit evaporates. Audit fulfilment becomes fast and straightforward. And resources are freed up to focus on more important tasks. But the benefits don't stop there. It's not all about the vendorAn audit is carried out from the vendor's perspective and focuses on identifying missing or expired licences, and recovering the associated revenue. But what about the customer's own interests? Can every licence actually be linked to an installed instance? Is money being wasted on applications that are hardly ever used? In fact, industry research, backed up by our own experience, suggests that more than 20% of software bought by organisations never gets used, and that the total value of unused installed software averages out at US$400 (around £260, AU$515) per computer! When you multiply that figure by the number of seats in your organisation, couldn't that money be spent more usefully elsewhere? Software audits? I can't wait for the next one!SAM solutions give organisations a way of automatically preventing unnecessary software spending. When used as part of a holistic IT Asset Management program, savings of 10-20% of total IT costs are more than possible within the first year. And that's on top of the time, money and effort saved by automating and simplifying the licence compliance fulfilment process. So, the chances are that transitioning from an ad hoc, reactive approach, to a centralised, automated and proactive one will pay for itself within a very short timeframe. And in that context, software audits might even become something you can look forward to. Stuart Power is UK Sales Manager at Matrix42http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/669/f/415085/s/43972e8d/sc/46/mf.gif

http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/DOWNLOADS/Microsoft/microsoft-mathematics-470-75.jpgMathematics and science students never need worry about splashing out on an expensive scientific or graphics calculator ever again thanks to the extensive set of features inside Microsoft Mathematics. Why you need itAdvanced mathematics looks like Egyptian hieroglyphics to a lot of people yet there are plenty that use them to solve every day problems and Microsoft Mathematics was created to make this process a lot more straightforward for even beginners. The program is a completely free complex calculator that has everything you'd expect on a small screened scientific calculator or graphical calculator just in a larger and more manageable screen without the tedious button combinations that have plagued regular plastic calculators. It isn't just a tool to solve problems though. Whilst students are using the Microsoft Mathematics program they will learn the fundamental basics of scientific and graphical mathematics as well as become more enamoured to the more advanced aspects through step-by-step equation solving. Numbers and information can be put in using either a keyboard or the ink setting that enables you to write the information in manually and thus opens up possibilities for laptop owners with graphical tablets. The numerical input calculator interface to the left hand side has a range of different sections and which one you use largely depends on the work you're doing. Its sections cover calculus, statistics, trigonometry, linear algebra and standard symbols, in addition to the numbers that are situated at the foot of the calculator. Whether its a complex formula, equation or triangle that needs to be solved, Microsoft Mathematics copes well in all situations. The only question we found ourselves asking is how something so advanced and helpful can still be available completely free? Key featuresWorks on: All versions of Windows Versions: Free Favourite Buttons: Right click on the buttons you use most often to add them to the favourite buttons group in order that they are easier to find in future. Export to Microsoft programs: Anything that you work on in Microsoft Mathematics can be exported to Word or other Microsoft programs and there us of course then the chance to print out the results of your calculations. Easy step-by-step instructions: Students of any age or ability can use Microsoft Mathematics thanks to the detailed instructions that it provides to anyone wanting to solve problems using the program. http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/669/f/415085/s/43954771/sc/4/mf.gif http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612028600/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43954771/sc/4/rc/1/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612028600/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43954771/sc/4/rc/2/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612028600/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43954771/sc/4/rc/3/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612028600/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43954771/sc/4/a2.imghttp://pi.feedsportal.com/r/218612028600/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/43954771/sc/4/a2t.img

http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBCNews/Outlook%20for%20Android/outlook-for-android-update-470-75.jpgMicrosoft is making good on its promise to update Outlook for iOS and Android devices every few weeks with the first set of enhancements delivered for both enterprise customers and consumers. The apps, which will eventually completely replace the Outlook Web App (OWA), are slowly getting all the features that are included in the outdated client. IT administrators can now implement PIN locking on their enterprise email systems that means any mobile device connected will need a passcode in place to download emails, reply to appointments and access any other sensitive information inside the app. Any devices that don't have this ability won't be able to use Outlook for iOS or Android. Quicker remote wipe execution has also been added, which now happens within seconds and the app-level wipe resets the Outlook app with Outlook email, calendar, contact and files data all removed from the device and cloud. End users of the app also get a barrage of new features including the ability to sync email from email providers that support IMAP, turn off the conversations feature in iOS by switching off the organise mail by thread setting, customise swipe gestures to change the way emails are handled, and alter default folders for swiped emails. More coming soonIn terms of what will be coming next, IT administrators will get Microsoft Intune mobile device management support and Outlook's cloud service will be transitioned from Amazon Web Services to Microsoft Azure. End users, meanwhile, be able to sync local contacts, the preview label will be removed from Outlook for Android and localisation for all the service's languages will be improved. Outlook for iOS and Android has only been out for a matter of weeks after Microsoft took its recent acquisition Accompli and rebadged it as the mobile apps that were recently released. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/TRBC/onenote-470-75.jpgNot wanting to be left out of the Microsoft's constant flurry of Office updates, OneNote users have a couple of new things to shout about. Firstly Microsoft has finally relented and added the popular handwriting feature to its OneNote for iPad app to allow users of the tablet to take advantage of something that has been a part of OneNote for Windows since 2003. The second announcement is that optical character recognition (OCR) has been enabled across all versions of OneNote that currently exists, which in layman's terms this means that OneNote users can search for text in all new images added to OneNote. OCR for older imagesLike all of its recent product updates, Microsoft also teased a couple of future updates that will see OneDrive for Business support added to OneNote plus the ability to use OCR on images that are attached to older notes. It was less than a week ago that Microsoft freed up five more features for the free edition of OneNote, and the handwriting and drawing features of OneNote are expected to become an integral part of the next Surface Pro. http://cdn.mos.techradar.com/art/software/Google/Inbox_by_Gmail_tablets-470-75.jpgMany folks are still scratching their heads wondering why Google felt the need to create an entirely separate Gmail client for mobile devices late last year, but few could argue the search giant is moving quickly to improve that product. The Official Gmail Blog today announced a couple of big enhancements for its fledging Inbox by Gmail app, which debuted back in late October on iPhone and Android smartphones. Billed as "a completely different type of inbox," Inbox by Gmail offers a completely different approach to managing email than Google's native Gmail client, using features such as Bundles, Highlights and Reminders to help prioritize busy inboxes. There was just one problem: Inbox by Gmail was limited to smartphones and Chrome web browsers, at least until now. Now in more placesWith a free update to the mobile app now available from Apple's App Store or Google Play, tablet owners can now see what all the hype is about, now that the Inbox by Gmail app works natively with the iPad and a wide range of Android-based slates. Perhaps more importantly, Google has lifted its self-imposed restriction that limited Inbox to its own Chrome web browser, and Safari and Firefox users also now get a taste of a whole new Gmail experience. One thing unfortunately hasn't changed: Google is still limiting Inbox by Gmail access to users with an invite, although the company has gone out of its way to make sure everyone who wants one can do so, offering extra invites to existing users that can be shared with friends. Those without already connected friends (or possibly lacking friends of any kind) can instead send an email the old-fashioned way to inbox@google.com and politely request to be added to the invite list. http://rss.feedsportal.com/c/669/f/415085/s/4390a904/sc/15/mf.gif http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612040965/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/4390a904/sc/15/rc/1/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612040965/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/4390a904/sc/15/rc/2/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612040965/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/4390a904/sc/15/rc/3/rc.img http://da.feedsportal.com/r/218612040965/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/4390a904/sc/15/a2.imghttp://pi.feedsportal.com/r/218612040965/u/49/f/415085/c/669/s/4390a904/sc/15/a2t.img
