  1. Leading ruggedised smartphone maker Blackview has unveiled what it calls the world’s largest rugged mobile, the BV6100. With a 6.88-inch display, it is within touching distance of popular non-rugged tablets like the Amazon Fire 7 when it comes to size and while it is far more expensive, at $150, it does have some features that make it a compelling purchase. These are the best rugged tablets around todayLooking for the best business tablets? Here are our choicesThe best tablets available to buy todayA phone like no otherThis is a phone so it can make calls and access the internet without needing Wi-Fi connectivity. It has front and rear cameras although all three, at 5-megapixel and 8-megapixel (back) and 5-megapixel (front), are likely to just about good enough for casual snapping. The 6.88-inch, 19:9 display has a 1440 x 720 pixel resolution which is likely to result in pictures or images that lack in sharpness. Its pixel density, at 234ppi (pixels per inch), is far lower than the 400+ppi we’re used to see on mainstream smartphones. On the other hand, a lower pixel count -will improve battery life (it comes with a 5.58Ah battery) and graphics performance (its is powered by an entry level chip, the MT6761, which uses a PowerVR GE8300 GPU). A tablet with a differenceThe display is an AMOLED screen, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The BV6100, like most Chinese smartphones, can accommodate two SIM cards and supports dual standby. Note that it comes only with 3GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage, which can be complemented by a microSD card. The rest of the specification includes Android 9.0, IP68/MIL-STD-810G/IP69K, reverse charging, face unlock, four global navigation satellite systems, NFC and a covered microUSB port. 2. If you’ve bought a GeForce RTX graphics card, you’ll doubtless be familiar with the benefits of DLSS – which is arguably more important than ray tracing – and Nvidia has just highlighted the massive boost the tech will give to Monster Hunter: World later this week, with the addition of a fresh option for DLSS in the game, too. That new option allows the gamer to adjust the level of sharpness which DLSS imparts using a slider under Display settings in Monster Hunter: World. Simply by moving that slider, you can adjust exactly how sharp or soft the image is to your exact tastes. Nvidia is also using mesh shading tricks to speed up RTX cardsShould you grab yourself a GeForce RTX 2080?Or what about one of AMD’s new graphics cards? That’s a pretty nifty additional touch, and apparently much requested from the gaming community. Presumably, we will see this sharpness tweaking functionality come to other games as well, to broaden the appeal of DLSS. As we’ve seen from the outset with the GeForce RTX cards, DLSS isn’t just about achieving a better image quality in supporting games, but really, it’s more about boosting frame rates and getting smoother gameplay. Smooth huntingAnd in Monster Hunter: World, Nvidia’s own benchmarking shows that at 4K resolution, with maximum graphics details and the high-resolution texture pack installed, gamers can expect increases of anything up to 50%. In other words, using the RTX 2080 Ti twinned with an Intel Core i9-9900K processor, whereas previously the game ran at 46.7 frames per second (fps), with DLSS enabled, that shoots up to a way smoother 71.6 fps. In fact, that’s a 53% boost. The RTX 2080 went from 34.7 fps to a speedier 54.9 fps, and it was a similar story for the RTX 2070 which increased from 29.1 fps to 45.7 fps. And as for the RTX 2060, that rather crawled along at 23.6 fps without DLSS, but with DLSS, it can manage a more playable 37.2 fps (and of course, you can always notch those maxed graphics settings down a little). DLSS will go live in Monster Hunter: World with a game update in two days’ time, on July 17. To benefit from DLSS, you obviously need to be running a GeForce RTX graphics card (Turing GTX models don’t have this tech, or ray tracing), plus you’ll need Nvidia’s latest Game Ready Driver. DLSS also requires either 4K resolution or 2,560 x 1,440, with the game being played in full-screen, and you can turn it on under Display settings (the option just above the new sharpness slider). Also note that you can run the aforementioned high-resolution texture pack (which is a free add-on) if your GPU has at least 8GB of video RAM. 3. The latest rumor concerning AMD’s Navi range of graphics cards is that there are new more affordable models coming which will slot below the existing Radeon RX 5700 offerings. This speculation comes from benchmarks (on CompuBench) spotted by Komachi – a leaker with a considerable history – showing a Radeon GPU from AMD’s new 7nm line-up. As Wccftech reports, seemingly this is the Navi 14, a more cut-down GPU compared to the Navi 10 (which powers the RX 5700 cards), and it might just be destined for an RX 5600 series which will come in at the entry-level. Check out Nvidia's rival Turing range of GPUsWhat’s the best GPU for you: Radeon RX 5700 vs RX 5700 XTThese are all the best graphics cards of 2019Or so the theory goes – and indeed graphics card manufacturer Sapphire has previously filed trademarks for RX 5600 cards, as well as RX 5500, 5800, and 5900 models (though the firm is really just covering all the bases of what might happen for future GPU launches here, no doubt). Spec detailsAt any rate, if the leak is genuine, these Navi 14 GPUs will sport 24 compute units with 64 stream processors each, which would make a total of 1,536 stream processors (compared to 2,304 with the RX 5700). The maximum clock frequency is cited as 1,900MHz, and Komachi further guesses on Twitter that these cards will run with 4GB of video memory. So as mentioned, the speculation runs that this will be an entry-level graphics card, to tackle Nvidia’s cheapest possible propositions with Turing, namely the GTX 1650 or 1660. And if the card is having benchmarks leaked now, it might not be too far away from launch – or at least an announcement. But as ever with these sort of leaked benchmarks, take this with a suitable degree of caution. It’s a safe enough bet, however, that AMD will be releasing further Navi offerings in the future, it’s really just a question of the precise timeline. Meanwhile, what we do know for the near future is that Radeon RX 5700 graphics cards will arrive from third-party GPU manufacturers by mid-August. 4. Vodafone has unveiled the 5G Gigacube, an evolution of the 4G Gigacube that we recently tested. The device, a rebadged Huawei B818, can deliver up to 1Gbps download speeds to up to 64 devices simultaneously and with a 90 metres range. The mobile operator says that the service is “perfect for small businesses who have multiple employees streaming or downloading at the same time.” Vodafone’s coverage is currently limited to seven UK cities and will expand to include another dozen by the end of the year. The 5G Gigacube supports 802.11ac and 802.11ax Wi-Fi with the latter achieving 4x4 MIMO at 5GHz. There’s two Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports and two ports for external antennas. What is 5G?Best mobile hotspots for 4G LTE and 5G in 20195G at no extra costVodafone doesn’t charge extra for 5G connectivity; unlimited data is charged at £50 per month which means that you might as well upgrade to a better router. You do have to pay £50 upfront though and that ties you in an 18-month contract. Note that the GigaCube and your plan are not eligible for international roaming, and any data can only be used in the UK, on the Vodafone Network, which is a bit of a shame. In comparison, Three proposes the Huawei HomeFi for just over £20 a month (effective cost after promotion) on a two-year contract. You get unlimited data on 4G and Go Roam, which allows you to use you allowance in dozens of countries globally. 5. There are subtle differences between the iPhone XS vs iPhone XS Max vs iPhone XR, at least at first glance. But as we reviewed each and created an in-depth comparison, we got a better idea of how they are truly unique in their own way. It's the first time Apple has released three new iPhones at once, giving us a trio of powerful flagship handsets that differ in size, camera quality, specs, and price. But which one is for you? The iPhone XS is technically the flagship phone, and also the smallest. Naturally, the iPhone XS Max is its bigger sibling with the largest screen. The iPhone XR is the leaner, lower-cost ‘budget flagship’ that’s sized somewhere between the other two. But that’s clearly an oversimplification of the phones - each has its pros and cons. If you’re on the hunt for one of the latest iPhones, especially during deals seasons like Amazon Prime Day 2019, read on for a breakdown of these top smartphones to find the right one for you. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/r96M3VYkQKHkjQAcmezG8E.jpg Image credit: Apple iPhone XS vs iPhone XS Max vs iPhone XR price and availabilityThe quick-and-dirty: the iPhone XR is sizeably cheaper, a true ‘budget flagship’ that starts at $749 / £749 / AU$1229 for the 64GB model ($799 / £799 / AU$1299 for 128GB and $899 / £899 / AU$1479 for the 256GB). That is, as we’re fond of saying, a 2018 phone at 2016 prices, one that's still suitable for 2019. Of course, the iPhone XS somewhat exceeds the XR in many ways and you’ll be able to buy it with more storage. For that, you’ll pay a premium: the iPhone XS starts at $999 / £999 / AU$1,629 (or $1,149 / £1,149 / AU$1,879 for 256GB, and $1,349 / £1,349 / AU$2,199 for 512GB). And if you want the bigger size of the iPhone XS Max, expect bigger prices: it starts at $1,099 / £1,099 / AU$1,799 for the 64GB model, while the 256GB model is $1,249 / £1,249 / AU$2,049 and the most expensive 512GB version will set you back a staggering $1,449 / £1,449 / AU$2,369. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Z7v6mznWtH4NevbTfsAMj9.jpg iPhone XS Max (Image credit: TechRadar) iPhone XS vs iPhone XS Max vs iPhone XR designOverall, not much has changed in the house of Apple since the release of the iPhone X toward the end of 2017 - which isn’t a bad thing. All three of these models follow the same broad design: front and rear glass sandwiching an aluminum frame, with rounded corners and a healthy notch cut out of the top front display. The widest difference between the three phones is size. The iPhone XS (143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm) is the smallest, with a 5.8-inch screen - a phone ideally suited for users with smaller hands or who prefer using their device one-handed. It weighs the least, at 177g, which is respectable but still not as light as some Android phones. It’s an objectively attractive handset, with sleek glass and minimal bezel. Its two rear cameras line up vertically on the top left of the phone’s back. You can get it in silver, space gray, or the always-popular gold. The iPhone XS Max (157.5 x 77.4 x 7.7 mm) is simply a larger version, with a 6.5-inch display that provides noticeably more screen real-estate. It’s otherwise identical, leaving your choice down to aesthetics: do you want a larger phone? Do you mind using two hands to use it? Finally, the iPhone XR (150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm) looks similar but has a few nods toward simplicity in its design: it has a single rear lens and, instead of metallic hues, comes in bright primary colors, white, and black. It’s also (.6mm) thicker than the other two. Its 6.1-inch screen puts it squarely between the other two phones in size, giving users a just-right option if the XS is too small and XS Max too large. One more note: though Apple still hasn’t allowed dual SIM card trays in its phones (except in China, for reasons) nor expandable storage, all three of these phones get compromise - eSIM. You can register an internal SIM for a separate number with a wireless carrier that supports eSIM, as Apple’s support page explains. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/aaW5jc4uk2rSHUxig6X9UK.jpg iPhone XS (Image credit: TechRadar) iPhone XS vs iPhone XS Max vs iPhone XR displayBoth the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max have OLED screens in identical 19.5:9 ratios and, predictably, resolution to match their size. The XS’ 5.8-inch display manages 1125 x 2436 pixels (~458 pixels per inch), while the larger XS Max’s display reaches 1242 x 2688 pixels (again, ~458 ppi). In other words, virtually the same bright, snappy screen. The iPhone XR’s display is another compromise Apple made to save cost, though it’s by no means a poor screen. Instead of OLED, this phone has a 6.1-inch ‘IPS’ LCD screen, which manages the same 19.5:9 ratio but has a lower 828 x 1792 pixel resolution (~326 ppi). In comparisons, this screen is less sharp than those of the XS and XS Max. If you’re upgrading from an older iPhone, one thing is immediately clear: none of these phones have the customary home button at the bottom. That’s been excised for a full display reaching the bottom. In its place, each phone uses Face ID to authenticate by way of the lone front-facing camera, which sits in that top notch. While they’re all about the same size - significantly wider than other smartphones that employ the ‘teardrop’ notch style - the iPhone XR’s is unnecessarily large since it lacks the depth-sensing time-of-flight sensor that comes in the notches of the XS and XS Max. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/xvCTHbRvRsEfbsoAQLkQ68.jpg iPhone XS Max (Image credit: TechRadar) iPhone XS vs iPhone XS Max vs iPhone XR: specs and iOS 12Good news: if you buy any of these phones, you’ll be able to make full (or nearly-full) use of the latest version of iOS for years to come. The only features the iPhone XR won’t be able to use are those that require depth-sensing, since it only has a single camera on both the front and rear. All three run the latest version of iOS 12, and when iOS 13 launches to the public later this year, all three flagships will easily run it: Apple reliably supports phones for 4-5 years after their release. Given that each of these phones are of the same generation, they all pack the A12 Bionic chip - the fastest Apple has yet produced. Likewise, their performance is fairly comparable, though the iPhone XR might be slightly slower with its 3GB of RAM compared to the XS and XS Max’s 4GB. In other words? You should have no problem running any app or media on these phones. The edge, if any, goes slightly to the iPhone XS and XS Max. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/gBHswi2gtEkb6ydT2jBbkC.jpg iPhone XR (Image credit: TechRadar) iPhone XS vs iPhone XS Max vs iPhone XR camera and batteryHere’s where the differences really shine. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max both pack dual 12MP cameras: one f/1.8 wide angle lens, and one f/2.4 telephoto with 2x optical zoom. These allow both to take photos with depth effects, including the ever-popular Portrait mode. Strictly speaking, these lenses aren’t as powerful as those on some competing Android phones, but it doesn’t really matter if you’re taking casual pictures: Apple has refined its photo software to produce great images in most lighting, and most importantly, it’s easy to use. The iPhone XR gets this software, too - but its single rear f/1.8 wide-angle lens (which looks little changed from the lone shooter on the iPhone 8) means depth effects aren’t as good. Don’t worry, you can still take Portrait photos - the software will just have to do a bit of heavy lifting to make up for it. Likewise, the iPhone XR lacks a time-of-flight sensor in its screen’s notch, meaning your Portrait selfies won’t be as high of quality. On the other hand, the iPhone XR packs a 2,942mAh battery, which is nearly as large as the 3,174mAh capacity in the iPhone XS Max. Unless you’re streaming media for hours or using lots of location services, these should last through a full day (and well into the next) on a full charge. The iPhone XS is no slouch here, with its 2,658mAh battery, but it’s still notably smaller. All three of these phones work with Apple’s standard 15W quick charging, which claims 50% recharge in 30 minutes. All have wireless charging. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/TtvY44DH3qtQKuh6GFeXcC.jpg Image credit: TechRadar iPhone XS vs iPhone XS Max vs iPhone XR: review wrap-upAs more folks feel the sting of skyrocketing phone prices, it would be easy to simply recommend the more affordable iPhone XR and call it a day. After all, it does contain most of the best parts of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max at a steep discount. But the other phones do earn their flagship quality, with a polish and extra hardware that pushes them into a slightly higher tier. They take higher-quality photos and, heck, simply look classier with a glossy, chromed look. Ultimately, the choice is yours: which iPhone suits you best? What features (and aesthetics) can you live without – or not? These three phones clearly top our best iPhones list - but where do the others sit?http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/YN-iyjNRmvE
  6. Amazon Prime Day 2019 is finally here, and we're already scrambling to find the best deals to add to our carts. Our Prime Day deals list is below, full of the best 4KTV deals, AirPods on sale, Apple iPad (both the cheap iPad and the newer iPad Pro) down to their lowest prices in 2019, and even Roomba robot vacuums for a reasonable price. What's on sale for Amazon Prime Day? That's the primary question all of our deals experts here to answer, along with a bunch of tips for finding the best prices. First up: a membership to Prime is required. The good news is that if you don't have an account yet, there's a free 30-day trial that you can always cancel before Amazon Prime Day 2019 ends. You should also observe that while many Amazon Prime Deals seem to advertise massive savings, these are actually being compared to an item's list price (manufacturer's suggested price for a product upon launch) rather than the product's current market price. Amazon Prime Day: deals listhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/S6vnnhZwT7cFfzdas6Bmb9.jpg What else will be on sale for Amazon Prime Day?Just look at last year's biggest sellers. Prime members around the world purchased more than 100 million products during the last Prime Day event. The top-selling items from last year's Prime Day included a mixture of home goods, electronics, and Amazon devices. Prime Day pro tip: It's not just about electronics deals on Amazon Prime Day. We're always surprised at how many small electronics and Instant Pots people buy. Make a list of everything your home and life needs – and not only gadgets. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/eCJ7iQntKWNQZywfs7Zr3Q.jpg Amazon Prime 1-day shippingAmazon just recently announced plans to offer free one-day shipping for Prime members on most orders. Amazon's CFO Brian Olsavky revealed the ambitious project during Amazon's first-quarter earnings call. To achieve this, the tech giant says it plan's to invest $800 million in the second quarter of 2019 and continue its expansion of their fulfillment and logistics network. Amazon currently offers free 2-day shipping for all Prime members and offers free one-day and same-day delivery on certain items. Amazon's future plans include increasing the locations and available items so free one-day delivery replaces the standard two-day Prime delivery window. Prime Day pro tip: Check the delivery dates on items in your checkout cart to make sure you're getting your items ASAP. How much did Amazon Prime Day make?Amazon was predicted to gross $3.4 billion on Prime Day last year, although we don’t know if that prediction is accurate as Amazon doesn’t release such information. However, it did announce that third party sellers shifted a billion dollars of product in just one day. As for its own sales, Amazon was content to say that “sales this Prime Day surpassed Cyber Monday, Black Friday and the previous Prime Day, when comparing 36-hour periods, making this once again the biggest shopping event in Amazon history.” That’s a little sneaky, mind you: as the 2017 sale only ran for 24 hours, not 36. Prime Day pro tip: Millions of people are expected to descend on the Amazon Prime deals bonanza this year, more so than ever before - so if you know what you're looking for, get in there quickly. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/4foaquCnIl0

Even Apple is offering iPad Pro and entry-level iPad price drops. Amazon Prime Day pro tip No. 1: You need to be an Amazon Prime member to get these deals. Not a subscriber yet? Our advice is to start the free 30-day trial – you can always cancel it after you scoop up the best deals this week. Here are the fine details. Prime members will earn a $10 credit for Prime Day (actually, it expires the day after Prime Day in case you forget) if they shop at Whole Foods. According to Amazon, all you have to do is scan your Prime Code, use your linked phone number at checkout, or make an order via Prime Now for delivery or pickup between July 3 and July 16." Prime Day pro tip: do this now – today through July 16, spend $10 at Whole Foods or on Amazon Prime Now (the latter will be easier for some people not near a Whole Foods), and then spend your $10 credit during Prime Day or the day after (there's 24-hour a grace period). http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/S6vnnhZwT7cFfzdas6Bmb9.jpg What else will be on sale for Amazon Prime Day?Just look at last year's biggest sellers. You'll find discounts on clothing, tech, home goods and more from a variety of online and local retailers. Last year Walmart joined in on Prime Day by offering free two-day shipping without membership fees and free same-day pickup on qualifying items. The retailer also discounted a wide array of products that included TVs, Google Home devices, kitchen appliances, laptops and much more - and Walmart's deals to rival Prime Day are absolutely in full swing. Other big retailers like Target, Best Buy, Macy's and eBay also promoted their own one-day sale with discounts on best-selling items throughout their site. Prime Day pro tip: We expect this year that more retailers will participate in the July event and will even extend the one-day sale to a weeks worth of discounts, and sure enough, we'll be providing all of their Prime Day-competing deals on this page. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/eCJ7iQntKWNQZywfs7Zr3Q.jpg Amazon Prime 1-day shippingAmazon just recently announced plans to offer free one-day shipping for Prime members on most orders. That's what Amazon has been doing during major holiday shopping events, making things a little different when it comes to ordering things. However, while voice search on speakers is set to become a big thing in the future, it will likely be for more multimedia things, like grabbing films or other quick content, rather than big expensive purchases. 11. These days it's not hard to find streaming services that offer 4K movies and TV shows on-demand - Netflix and Amazon are certainly leading the charge but it's only a matter of time until more follow suit. However, if you're the kind of person who wants the best, uncompressed picture quality from your movie sessions and TV bingers, you need to invest in a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Now wait, you might say, I thought Blu-rays were the best format in terms of visual fidelity - I thought it was going to be around forever and I threw out all of my DVDs! The good news is that 4K Blu-ray players will still play normal Blu-rays - in fact, it will make them look even better thanks to on-board upscaling. But better than that, buying a 4K Blu-ray player will allow you to watch 4K Blu-rays a new format that contains significantly more visual data than standard Blu-rays, plus new technologies like HDR and Dolby Atmos. As for the upfront investment of buying yet another Blu-ray player, you can take some solace in knowing that these players really aren't that expensive. Sure, there are a few really premium players on our list that can do anything and everything, but most 4K Blu-ray players out there cost less than $300. Don't miss our round-up of the Best 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray moviesWhat else do I need to watch a UHD Blu-ray?That being said, before you plunk down some money on a new player, make sure you already own a 4K TV in order to watch it. (If you don't have that last one, then check out our guide to the best 4K TV.) If you don't have a 4K TV, your 4K Blu-ray player will still work, but it will only display images in 1080p. Buy a regular Blu-ray instead of a 4K version and it will still play in 3840 × 2160 resolution, but it won't be a native 4K image and will be noticeably different to an Ultra HD Blu-ray. Is your 4K TV all setup and ready to go? Here's a quick look at the best 4K Blu-ray players available to buy today. Panasonic DP-UB9000Panasonic DMP-UB700 Pioneer UDP-LX500 Sony UBP-X800Panasonic DMP-UB900 Sony UBP-X1000ESPanasonic DMP-UB300 Xbox One XXbox One S Samsung UBD-K8500http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/38VmVB2AeECB9pvSYPqqtk.jpg The DP-UB9000 is Panasonic’s latest flagship 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player and, after Oppo started winding down its competing devices, the new model finds itself in one of the top spots in the high-end player market. That said, beautifully made and enviably specified, this flagship 4K disc spinner is unashamedly premium. The plastic and tin build, familiar on mainstream Blu-ray players, has been replaced with heavy metal and luxe design. Beyond its good looks, however, the DP-UB9000 is also the first UHD deck from Panasonic to support all key HDR flavours: vanilla HDR10, its dynamic sibling HDR10+, HLG and Dolby Vision. The latter is included, despite the fact that Panasonic isn’t supporting Dolby Vision on any of its 4K TVs. Not only is the player more than capable with images, it has audiophile aspirations as well, sporting high quality DACs, two-channel and 7.1-channel analogue outputs, and Hi-Res Audio support. Toss in a host of smart features, and the UB9000 ticks nearly every box in the book. Naturally all these flagship features don’t come cheap - but, for those seeking the ideal replacement Blu-ray player after Oppo’s collapse, the Panasonic DP-UB9000 is a more than adequate replacement. Read the full review: Panasonic DP-UB9000 review http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/jqP2haEQneSwhFZeTmMJYL.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/9iwmekxKNyGAHWSYrF3HE5.jpg The Panasonic DMP-U700 is the 4K Blu-ray player we end up recommending most often. It's more affordable than an Oppo deck, and still gets you the amazing picture quality of Panasonic's top-end DMP-U900. Streaming service support, with HDR-enabled 4K Netflix, is well worth trumpeting and the player does a swell job with 24-bit audio. It supports both FLAC and DSD files. There's no Dolby Vision support, perhaps the main reason to upgrade to the DMP-UB900. But as it stands the UB700 offers the best balance of price, audio visual performance and features. Read the full review: Panasonic DMP-UB700 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/U6D3ofXKriRQ8SrHtFkjL4.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/iaGJ9nMcECvMbq7XyZiaJQ.jpg While its £999 ($999, AU$1999) price tag might be a bit intimidating, Pioneer has produced a peach of a player with the UDP-LX500. This heavyweight home cinema hero deserves to be shortlisted by all high-end upgraders, and can comfortably claim to be one of the best universal 4K Blu-ray players available for less than a grand. There are caveats though. It’s not quite as brilliant a video performer as its main rival, the cheaper Panasonic DMP-UB9000, and it’s not quite as well finished either. However, if music is as important as movies to you, it’s clearly got broader appeal. Move over Bradley and Gaga, a new AV star is born. Read the full review: Pioneer UDP-LX500 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/U6D3ofXKriRQ8SrHtFkjL4.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/JfETVuPkoorRN6tnmBaDtd.jpg Sony might have been a little late to the Ultra HD Blu-ray party, but its first player is a great machine. It's solidly made, and its overall image quality is superb. As an added bonus, the player also supports a wide range of audio formats, can play SACDs, and even DVD-As. So why does the player sit the number three slot in our list? Well, unfortunately it lacks support for Dolby Vision, the high-end HDR format that discs are increasingly offering support for, and which the Oppo UDP-203 does now support thanks to a firmware update. Its also more expensive than our top pick, the Panasonic DMP-UB700. If you want a UHD player that also doubles as a very capable music player, then the Sony UBP-X800 is a great choice, but if you're after something focussed solely on playing movies, then there are better or cheaper options out there. Read the full review: Sony UBP-X800 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/U6D3ofXKriRQ8SrHtFkjL4.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3d1a83222ddfc7224fdfb98d58292e60.jpg The DMP-UB900 will restore you faith in physical media. In full 4K HDR guise it offers a level of performance that will have new 4K TV owners gasping. Ultra HD Blu-ray brings the experience of 4K digital cinema to the home, and rewards with brilliant colour fidelity, deep contrast and almost three-dimensional clarity. Factor in solid file playback support, plus 4K iterations of Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, and you have a machine that'll make your new 4K HDR TV look sensational. Read the full review: Panasonic DMP-UB900 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/U6D3ofXKriRQ8SrHtFkjL4.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5avSh8cfNg7HAHf9pTbLk4.jpg The UBP-X1000ES is Sony’s premium 4K Blu-ray offering, a posh stablemate to the unfeasibly fine UBP-X800. In terms of performance and value, the latter can be considered one of the best value UHD Blu-ray players available, so clearly this more expensive sibling needs to be rather special to warrant a premium. To that end, the UBP-X1000ES delivers pristine UHD Blu-ray images and its audio performance is excellent, be it via HDMI or two channel analogue. The player is also artfully built, and incorporates a high-end 192kHz/ 32bit DAC and offers a gold-plated phono analogue audio output on the rear. Ultimately, though, the X1000ES is considerably more expensive than the UBP-X800, and doesn’t quite have the feature roster of the Dolby Vision-enabled, MQA-playing Oppo UHD-203 - and if you’re looking for a UHD player with comparable audio chops (although admittedly not universal disc compatibility), then Panasonic’s DMP-UB900 provides cheaper competition. Read the full review: Sony UBP-X1000ES http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/U6D3ofXKriRQ8SrHtFkjL4.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/C9GL98MTPZzSugyhKe5ke8.jpg You'll make a couple of compromises if you want to take advantage of the DMP UB300's budget price-tag – there's no built-in Wi-Fi for example, and rear ports are incredibly limited – but thankfully the machine doesn't scrimp where it matters. Picture quality is excellent, it supports a wide range of audio codecs and formats, and there's also streaming services built in if you're willing to go down the wired ethernet route. Read the full review: Panasonic DMP-UB300 http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/U6D3ofXKriRQ8SrHtFkjL4.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/xKZ2Ep8cuTsoVNL4MbU35m.jpg The Xbox One X is a beast of a gaming console. It offers 6 teraflops of performance, 12GB of GDDR5 RAM and an eight-core CPU clocked at 2.3GHz. By far and away, it's the most powerful device listed on this page. But despite all that power under the hood, it's not the best 4K Blu-ray player. Sure, it can play 4K UHD discs – and it even supports Dolby Atmos audio – but the images that it produces aren't likely to blow you away. That's probably because the Xbox One X doesn't have the same level of picture-upscaling that some of the other dedicated media players on this list have. While the Xbox One X might not be as good of a 4K Blu-ray player as the Oppo or the Sony, we'd like to see either one of those players handle an Xbox One X game. Read the full review: Xbox One X http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/U6D3ofXKriRQ8SrHtFkjL4.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/8f023e72df1ac1ddb2f15481e2d7ecc1.jpg Not holding the title of a "proper Blu-ray player" doesn't stop the Xbox One S from being a great, cheap way to play 4K Blu-ray discs. Sporting a Blu-ray disc drive and the capacity to run Netflix in 4K Ultra HD, Microsoft's latest iteration of the Xbox is a great 'jack-of-all-trades' machine that's capable of satisfying your UHD disc needs as well as playing the latest console game released for the system. The downside of it being able to do everything is that you'll be working with an interface designed primarily for gaming. The controller that comes with the console isn't the most efficient way to control movie playback, and the machine lacks support for Dolby Vision. Regardless, if you want a machine that can handle both your gaming and your home cinema needs, the Xbox One S is the console for the job. Read the full review: Xbox One S http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/U6D3ofXKriRQ8SrHtFkjL4.jpg http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3e15e373c9c0e94fd21dcbdc2a0fcedc.jpg The K8500 is currently the cheapest route into 4K Blu-ray. It's also a useful hub for 4K OTT services from Netflix and Amazon, and while the design is a bit Marmite, you'll be consistently impressed by its loading speed and colourful UI. You can get better image quality, support for more formats and better build quality by spending more money, but if you want a cheap machine that covers the basics, then the Samsung UBD-K8500 is yet to be beaten on price. 12. Cricket World Cup finals only roll around every four years, but the 2019 edition will see a first-time champion crowned - hosts England or last time's losing finalists New Zealand. It's all set to be an unforgettable match and you can read on how to discover how to watch your England vs New Zealand live stream options for the Cricket World Cup final. Having dominated one day cricket for the last few years, it will likely seem just reward to many cricket watchers should England win their first ever World Cup title at Lord's on Sunday. Their ruthless dismantling of Australia in the semi-final at Edgbaston showed a coolness under pressure that bodes well ahead of a game that offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for glory. Standing in England's way of making it into the history books are a New Zealand side who will themselves have been buoyed by a glorious semi-final win. Having come through as underdogs in the semi-finals to beat India, arguably the tournament's strongest team, they too must fancy their chances at Lord's. The match marks the the fourth time England have reached the final. Having beaten New Zealand in the group stage and with a partisan home crowd urging them on, Eoin Morgan's side unsurprisingly go into the match as clear favourites. Kane Williamson's side nevertheless have shown their capability for causing an upset with their win over India, and will be out to ensure they are not runners-up once again after losing the 2015 final to the Aussies. England made relatively light work of the Kiwis in their round-robin stage clash earlier in the tournament, winning by 119 runs, with Jonny Bairstow smashing 106. Key to any Black Caps' victory will be a good knock from Kane Williamson - an early takeout of the talismanic batsman will likely hand the trophy to the hosts. 13. Hulu is currently behind rivals such as Netflix and iTunes when it comes to support for 4K content, but the service has now switched on 4K streaming again – for some shows and some devices. 4K content streaming was pulled from Hulu last year, though the company didn't really explain why or make any sort of official announcement about the move. Now it's back – but again the news has kind of quietly slipped out (it seems to have shown up first on Twitter). You can read more details on the official Hulu support page. A high-end Echo could be on the wayYouTube returns to Fire TV devicesSamsung patent shows AR glassesExactly which shows are available in 4K isn't clear: Hulu says a "select list of programming" is available, and that the list "continues to grow". What we know for sure is that all the Hulu Originals can be viewed in 4K. Supported devicesYou're also going to need the right device to take advantage of the content Hulu is now offering in 4K. For the time being only the Apple TV 4K and the Chromecast Ultra will show streams at the top resolution. Hulu says you're going to need connection speeds of around 16 Mbps to get the top quality 4K UHD streams. That compares with 6 Mbps for 1080p streams and 3 Mbps for 720p streams. As usual the quality will automatically adjust based on your connection speed. Even in its present limited form, having some 4K content available means Hulu is catching up with its rivals in the streaming space – and with more services appearing this year, the market is about to get even more competitive. The 4K resolutions should be available now, so if you're a Hulu subscriber, fire up The Handmaid's Tale or Catch-22 to see all those extra pixels. 14. Ubisoft has started releasing some more details about its upcoming mythological adventure, Gods and Monsters. First announced at E3 2019, the game is currently being developed by the team behind Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. At the time of its announcement, we didn’t get too much information on the game (though there was a tone-setting trailer) but now Creative Director Jonathan Dumont and Senior Producer Marc-Alexis Côté are ready to speak in an interview on the official Ubisoft site. Narrated by Homer to his grandchildren, the game’s story will follow a fully customisable hero called Fenyx, who is on a journey to save the gods of Olympus from Typhon and his mythological monsters. Telling TalesWhen you’re not limited by history, you can start to do some weird and wonderful things with your heroes and according to Jonathan Dumont, Gods and Monsters will take the special abilities designed for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and “put it on steroids for Gods and Monsters.” “When you’re fighting and you trigger your abilities, you’re going to wreck the enemies you’re facing. You can expect fast-paced combat that takes place on the ground and the air. For example, if you’re fighting a cyclops, you may have to double jump to reach his head and hit him in the eye to blind him, so then you can fight him on the ground. We also have aerial enemies like harpies.” The game won’t just have abilities, Dumont has promised that magical mythological items like the Boots of Hermes will appear in the game. The Boots of Hermes will allow players to double-jump and explore new places. According to Dumont “there are plenty of items like that, but we’re saving them for future surprises.” While the game will be dealing with myth rather than fact, senior producer Marc-Alexis Côté has said that the team is still taking the same “rigorous historical approach” as it has with the Assassin’s Creed games. This means experts in mythology have been brought in to advise and to “ensure that we can retell them in a way that is interesting and profound for our players.” Even with this kind of rigour, Ubisoft is hoping that Gods and Monsters will be a “lighthearted” game with a story that has humour. It’s this and the game’s bright and colourful art style (which gives off some serious Fable vibes) that the team is hoping will help it stand out from other open-world adventure games. Even its own. Gods and Monsters will launch on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia on February 25 2020. Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed games could be coming to Oculus VRhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/o74q3R44vME
  15. A new Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus photo has leaked out, this one giving us a look at the top of the phone ahead of its official launch on August 7 - as well as a look at the Galaxy Watch Active 2. This early look comes courtesy of notable leaker Evan Blass, and the phone it depicts matches the Note 10 rumors we’ve heard before - especially the renders that came out a couple days ago that gave us a first look at the larger Galaxy Note 10 Plus. This image gives us an overhead look from the top of the Note 10 Plus, which shows the long-rumored central front-facing selfie camera and insight into the phone’s design. The MicroSD/SIM slot is still there in the same spot as in the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, though the microphone hole seems more centered. Much more interesting is the flat top, unlike the rounded corners of the Note 9. The new phone is a much flatter pancake-esque handset, but that should stretch the screen to its maximum dimensions. Note 10 Plus...and the Samsung Watch Active 2?Blass followed up the Note 10 Plus look with another leak - this one for the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2. This look follows hot on the heels of another official-looking render that came out mere hours ago; that one featured a leather-looking band, while Blass’s features the more familiar rubberized wristband from the original Samsung Galaxy Watch Active - but both have the same circular watch body with two buttons on the right. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/rGFK7TUqhwNymMKCXiWgxB.jpg Image credit: Evan Blass In the case of both of Blass’s leaks today, we’re more confident of their authenticity given his reputation as a dependable source of official content. 16. Text to switch is a name that aptly describes an initiative thataims to make switching phone provider - while keeping your number - easier than ever. The text to switch system must be used by all networks after regulator Ofcom announced the new way of changing networks. The idea is to make it easier than ever to switch phone network so the best mobile phone deals are available to everyone, with no fears about switching hassles. As the name suggests, text to switch is a system that uses SMS messaging to give customers their vital details to make switching simple, without needing to wait around on a call like the old days – or put up with attempts to convince you to stay. So what exactly does text to switch offer you, how does it work and can you get a phone saving with a new deal? Read on to find out everything you need to know then check out our phone deals guide to see if you're due an upgrade. What is text to switch? To switch network and keep your phone number you previously had to call your provider, often with a long wait on the phone, to get your unique PAC (porting authorisation code). This essentially lets the company know when your number has been added to a new network legitimately so it can release your number over there. The new text to switch system makes accessing that PAC code as simple as sending a text to your provider for an instant reply with the code that you need to switch network. How do I switch phone providers with text to switch? All you need to do is text "PAC" to 65075. Your provider will then be required to message you back within a minute. This message is also required to include any early termination charges or pay as you go balance charges, so you know exactly where you stand. The code will be valid for 30 days, leaving you plenty of time to make the switch to a new provider. Once you give your PAC code to the new provider, it is required to make the switch over and activation of your number within one working day. How do I keep my mobile number with text to switch? To keep your mobile number, despite switching networks, all you need to do is follow the above process. That basic text to switch system is devised to make it easy to switch while keeping your original phone number, so you don't need to worry about telling anyone to change your number – they won't even know you've changed network. Can I text to switch and change my mobile number? It is possible to also use text to switch but to get a new number, if you fancy a fresh start (aka an escape from all those annoying sales callers that somehow have your number). To switch, but still get yourself a new number, you simply follow a similar process. Send a text with the letters "STAC" to 75075 and you will get a service termination authorisation code. Give this to your new provider and they'll take care of everything for you. How long does it take to text to switch? The process should only take a day. You can text to get your PAC or STAC code within a minute. This can then be given to the new network provider and they are required to have you up and running within one working day. So, realistically, that could mean you go into a store and leave on a new network with your same number up and running, or you may have to wait until the next day rolls around. If you're a business user this is a bit different as the response time with a PAC code can take up to two working days. Can you swap phones during a contract? You can potentially swap phones even if you're still in a contract. When you send that text for your PAC code you'll be notified if you have any outstanding fees to pay. If you have time left on your contract you may have to pay the balance after which time you'll own your current phone outright. Then it's easy for you to get a totally new phone deal on your fresh contract. Or go for a SIM only option and buy the new phone outright. Of course you now also have the option to trade-in your current phone to make a bit of a saving on the new handset too, so don't forget to factor that in, especially if you're aiming for a pricey handset. Tonight should on paper be an easy night's work for Khan - Australia's Billy ‘The Kid’ Dib having been elevated from the undercard as stand-in for Neeraj Goyat, who was forced to pull out after being injured in a car crash. With continuing question marks over the Bolton boxer's chin, Khan needs to impress tonight to show the boxing world his career isn't yet over. Now 32-years-old, Khan has something of a battle on his hands to prove he's still a welterweight contender following accusations that he had "quit" against Crawford after the fight was stopped for a low-blow that appeared to hit him on the hip. Nothing less than a swift KO for Khan will likely satisfy critics here tonight, with the likely reward for the former unified light-welterweight world champion likely to be another fight in Jeddah at the end of the year against Filipino senator Manny Pacquiao. Dib, 32, announced he was calling an end to his boxing career in the aftermath of his last bout - an IBF super-featherweight clash with Tevin Farmer in Sydney last August which saw him lose on points. Having come out of retirement to join the undercard, he's effectively moving up three weight categories for tonight's fight. Also looking to rebuild his career tonight will be Tyson Fury’s cousin Hughie who makes his return to heavyweight action on the undercard. Having lost on points to Kubrat Pulev back in November, Fury will be out to get things back on track against former champ 38-year-old Samuel Peter. It all adds up to an intriguing night of entertainment for fight fans, and we're here to help you find the best way of watching with our Khan vs Dib live stream guide. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/VgyagGS9HpAEPUQtUJBfrg.jpg Live stream Amir Khan vs Billy Dib from outside your countryIf you've been looking forward to this fight and already know where to watch, your plans may be scuppered if you're out of the country when it's on. That's because broadcasters geo-block their coverage if you try to watch from abroad. But there's a clever workaround for this, which is perfectly legal (assuming the broadcaster's Ts&Cs allow it) and it involves using a piece of software called a VPN - better that than trying to get some dodgy stream from Reddit. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/B9XNGCRYNHKJzN5zVfTMje.jpg How watch the Amir Khan vs Billy Dib fight in the UKhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/He6pJKQNQDZMwKNLHwXpan.jpg How to watch Amir Khan vs Billy Dib in PakistanWe've looked and we've looked (and we've looked) and we can't find any news of a broadcaster in Pakistan showing Amir Khan in all his mean, lean glory tonight. If that changes, we'll be sure to let you know. The only alternative is to use one of our best VPNs as described above, set your location to a country on this page that is broadcasting and go from there. But do bear in mind that most paid streaming services do require a credit card based in the country the service is from. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ebGZgkd4qVX7mUuvz3WNkH.jpg http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/Z2dKhCuV2aQ
  18. Sprint’s 5G network for phones just went live yesterday in what’s becoming the biggest competitive market for 5G: Chicago. And, it’s offering a very different package from what we’ve seen from Verizon’s 5G network. The rollout makes Sprint’s 5G network massive. In Chicago alone, it’s estimated to cover as many as 700,000 people. That’s because it’s available in many areas of the city. From the center of downtown Chicago (“The Loop”) out to Humboldt Park, north past Montrose Beach, and south beyond Chinatown, the signal is available. There are limited devices that can connect to the network right now. Two smartphones, the LG V50 ThinQ and Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, and the HTC 5G Hub. A difference in 5G technologyThe new Sprint 5G service does substantially more to coat Chicago in signal than Verizon’s mmWave 5G signal, which is also available in the city. This is the result of Sprint relying on a 2.4GHz frequency to transmit its 5G network. The 2.4GHz spectrum has a long range and can pass through some materials. Verizon’s mmWave 5G technology, meanwhile, has severely limited potential to pass through materials, though beam-forming can allow the signal to transmit over long distances, but it requires more ideal conditions than 2.4GHz needs to transmit the same distance. That different bit of spectrum does come with some other trade-offs, though. It may not offer the same 5G speeds as mmWave can offer. In our testing, we’ve seen Verizon’s 5G network deliver 1.4Gbps speeds. That let us download the entire first season of Stranger Things from Netflix in 38.78 seconds. In the short time we’ve had the LG V50 up and running on Sprint’s 5G network, we’ve been able to conduct a few speed tests that saw some speeds as high as 216Mbps. While that’s a far cry from the 1.4Gbps we got on a mmWave connection, it’s still strong performance. And, we didn’t have to stand still to get it. While strolling to catch the train, we decided to do an unscientific experiment, starting a huge download before crossing a bridge and seeing how far it got when we reached the other side. This was not a long bridge, and the download had reached 822MB by the time we were to the other side. It took maybe a minute. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/sxgzyjrzrku6s8zvNrpu6i.jpg This was the bridge we tested across | Image Credit: TechRadar That’s certainly fast, but not insanely fast. What’s impressive about that test is that we got those speeds with the phone in our pocket while we were on the move. Moving around even in the slightest proved troublesome with mmWave 5G connections. Sprint is currently focused on building a 5G network that is consistent. That means the carrier wants it to be available indoors, outdoors, when you’re stationary, and when you’re on the move. So far, it’s looking like it may be doing just that. The typical speeds Sprint is aiming for are around 150Mbps, though it says there’s potential for Gigabit speeds. And, 5G upload speeds are also possible now, as Sprint has just enabled 5G uplink in Chicago with more regions to follow. Sprint hopes to see the network grow even stronger through the possible merger with T-Mobile, which would allow the two carriers to combine their available spectrum to deliver even broader 5G coverage. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/gzRe9dvQl3U
  19. Amazon is said to be working on a higher-end Echo smart speaker, according to a new report today, and that's no surprise given how successful Sonos and Google have been with more powerful versions of their smart speakers. This high-quality Echo packs more audio components into a wider frame than prior models, reports Bloomberg, yet it should still retain its signature cylindrical shape. It will include at least four tweeters, said people familiar with the product. It's an obvious move for Amazon, which has already cornering the smart speaker market at other price points. But it's left a void at the top, one that the Sonos Play:1 and Google Home Max have filled. The Echo line of Alexa-powered speakers are frequent best sellers, especially during major sales seasons, like the upcoming Amazon Prime Day 2019. High-end audio...and a home robot? The bigger Echo is being developed by Amazon’s hardware R&D division Lab126, which had previously reported to be working on an Alexa-controlled home robot called Vesta. Today’s news affirms that work continues on the domestic ‘bot, which was expected to be at least introduced this year, but is reportedly not ready for mass-production. Just what Vesta can do is still a mystery, but today’s Bloomberg report sheds more light on the product: prototypes are around waist-height and get around thanks to computer-vision cameras. That sounds like the kind of computer-assisted navigation that Amazon has left to Google’s Waymo and Apple’s self-driving car experiments, which is intriguing territory for a company that made its bones on hardware basics. Details are still scarce about both projects, and neither are seemingly far enough along to have release dates. 21. Apple’s new 13-inch MacBook Pro has been given the teardown treatment over at iFixit, with some interesting revelations concerning the battery, keyboard, SSD and more. We’re talking about the new entry-level MacBook Pro which witnessed some impressive upgrades, including the introduction of the Touch Bar – which wasn’t previously on the base 13-inch model – and a more powerful 8th-gen Intel quad-core processor (as well as True Tone tech for the Retina display, plus Apple’s T2 security chip). Check out all the best cheap MacBook Pro dealsHow to reset a MacBook ProThese are the very best laptops of 2019So when you hear that the battery inside this refreshed machine is bigger than the previous entry-level MacBook Pro, with a 58.2Wh capacity compared to 54.5Wh, you probably won’t be surprised. Because those hardware upgrades like the Touch Bar are going to sap more power, and Apple needs to maintain the same (claimed) 10 hour battery life. Indeed, iFixit notes that this battery is actually just a tad more capacious than the 58Wh effort in the more expensive 13-inch MacBook Pro, which has a beefier processor still to drive. The teardown also confirmed that this refreshed laptop now carries the same improved third-generation butterfly keyboard seen in the more expensive models of the MacBook Pro 2019, as we already reported. Soldering on…Good news aside, a blow for those who like to consider upgrading their notebook comes with the fact that the SSD is now soldered in, whereas in the previous non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro, it was removable. On the plus side, at least the speakers are removable, as is the modular Thunderbolt board (although that’s not really full compensation for the SSD – but it’s better than nothing). A further interesting point to note is that Apple has trimmed a little bit off the heat pipe to fit in the Touch ID sensor alongside the Touch Bar. This leads iFixit to speculate about whether this chipping away at the cooling solution on the laptop is really a wise idea (given that these ultra-thin portables can potentially struggle more on the heat management front, given the power packed into a very slight frame). As for the overall ‘repairability’ score iFixit awarded the new entry-level MacBook Pro, well, it was predictably low: 2/10. The laptop was marked down for the fact that the battery is glued in with copious amounts of adhesive, as ever, as well as the soldered down RAM, and the now also soldered in place SSD. 22. Since it first launched in 2016, GIGABYTE’s AERO line has offered some of the most versatile laptops on the planet. This family of all-rounders combine light and portable designs with long battery life and powerful internals, with specs that are grunty enough to handle the demands of high-end gaming: basically, the perfect trifecta for a mobile PC. It’d be unwise to write the AERO line off as “just gaming machines” however, as they offering a great deal more than most of their gaming-oriented counterparts, packing special features that make them perfect for creative and design professionals. And the latest generation of AERO 15 OLED laptops takes things even further. Not only does it feature the latest-and-greatest Intel and NVIDIA processing, gaming and networking hardware inside, it’s also available with a professionally-calibrated OLED screen which means it’s got both the best looking and the best performing display on the market – and that should turn the head of any design professional. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bYA2xrGwdLSN6sxSGjmXNd.jpg Thin, lightweight and quiet, the AERO 15 OLED is a designer's laptop that you can take with you – and looks great anywhere. New styleThe first thing you’ll notice about the new AERO 15 OLED is the re-imagined livery, which now exudes the cool sophistication you’d associate with a stealth jet fighter. It’ll impress in any environment, whether that’s a modern office, corporate boardroom or the local LAN café. Opening it up presents even more to admire. The full-sized keyboard makes it easy to use, while the customisable RGB backlighting offers some useful – or optionally decorative – effects. Despite the confines of the 15-inch chassis, it sports a full-sized number pad and, helpfully, the often ignored full-sized arrow keys too. There’s even a customisable hotkey that’s optimised for Adobe Creative Cloud. A Windows Hello-compatible fingerprint reader adorns the multi-gesture friendly trackpad, while the HD webcam’s sliding privacy cover provides a final flourish. And then you turn it on… http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/MnuBD2QUF8XgqYRcRkfwTd.jpg With a factory-calibrated 4K Samsung OLED display, the AERO 15 OLED carries the Pantone Certification for colour accuracy. Stunning OLED displaySome TV and smartphone owners will already be familiar with the stunning, infinite-contrast and bedazzling colours that OLED screens are capable of delivering. Far fewer people will have seen them on a laptop. Even then, they’ve typically been reserved for the highest-end variants of product lines, where they’ve represented something of a glamorous luxury. However, the AERO 15’s Samsung 4K AMOLED screen, with its barely-there, 3mm bezel and ultra-high definition 3840 x 2160 resolution, has been individually-calibrated in the factory to achieve X-Rite’s Pantone Certification – a benchmark that’s considerably more impressive than the far more-common ‘Validation’ certificate. In technical terms, the AERO 15’s OLED display achieves a Delta-E of <1, supports VESA Display HDR 400 and can display 100% of the P3 colour space – so it meets all the key requirements of professional designers. And even less-demanding workers should appreciate the TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort certification, which reduces blue light emissions and makes working for long-term periods much more comfortable with less eye fatigue. This all combines to make the AERO 15’s OLED display the most brilliant and the most accurate screen on the market, giving you the capacity to do client-ready design work from anywhere you need to. Built for tough design jobsNaturally, all of those display specs would count for nought if the AERO 15 OLED’s internal specs couldn’t cope with the ultra-demanding applications that designers rely upon in their day-to-day work. Whether it’s CAD, 3D or VR however, the AERO 15 OLED takes everything in its stride. Under the hood resides an insanely-fast Intel 9th-Generation processor; you can choose between the six-core Core i7-9750H or the top-end, eight-core Core i9 i9-9980HK – a chip that can run comfortably at 5GHz when required. There’s even more flexibility with the graphics hardware, as the AERO 15 OLED is available with NVIDIA’s top-end GeForce RTX 2080 and 2070 GPUs, or alternatively the value-focused GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. These are flanked by a generous and designer-friendly serving of either 16GB or 32GB RAM, plus various capacities of speedy PCIe M.2 hard drives, with capacities ranging from 256GB to a full 1TB. Those familiar with fully-loaded laptops will know that with great performance comes great responsibility… to remove heat from the chassis. This is an especially-important consideration for designers who frequently operate in quiet environments and can’t tolerate the traditional noise associated with high-performance gaming-laptop cooling. With that in mind, GIGABYTE has completely overhauled the cooling system by introducing Supra Cool 2 heat-dissipation technology. There are now two special 71-blade fans and five heat-pipes to ensure heat is removed as quietly and efficiently as possible. The result is 30% more effective cooling than before – and at less-than 40dBA, even when under a heavy design workload or gaming. And if you actually want to make some noise, the AERO 15 OLED’s Nahimic-supporting stereo speakers are where you must turn! http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/n2vHSNMnEoncxcMsnurGMe.jpg The AERO 15 OLED's wide array of connectivity features lets you work with all your essential design peripherals and accessories. Ready to work with your key peripheralsOf course, connectivity is of great importance in design work. A fully-mobile workstation needs to be able to connect to a wide variety of devices – both old and new. And once again, the AERO 15 OLED has you covered here, and can handle a full designer-oriented complement of peripherals all on its own, even if that includes a VR headset, VR controllers and a Wacom graphics tablet all at the same time. This is something that creators who flit between Gravity Sketch VR design, Maya graphics and KeyShot rendering will seriously appreciate. HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 (via USB-C) are both catered for, along with Thunderbolt 3. There are three USB 3.1 Type-A ports plus a camera-friendly, full-sized SD-card reader that supports fast, UHS-II transfer speeds to get stills and video off as quickly as possible. The Ethernet port supports Killer LAN’s speed boost technology, while the brand new Wi-Fi 6 connectivity (powered by Intel’s AX1650 chipset) is a god-send to designers, who will now be able to wirelessly-connect to remote assets on their LAN at near wired speeds... reliably! To top everything off, Microsoft’s Azure AI technology has been integrated into the AERO 15 OLED to manage power profile switching. This means the laptop will learn and manage power-saving features based on your real-world usage, switching between Windows 10's various power profiles automatically to best match your behaviour – and thus saving you the hassle of juggling energy-saving versus performance settings manually. This helps push the battery life of this powerful machine to up to 8.5 hours – or a full working day. With so much power and so many features, it seems unfathomable that everything can fit into a chassis that’s just 20mm thick and weighs only 2kg! http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5iZpC7oi2FzjHaQwu5VDQd.jpg There are six configurations of AERO 15 OLED available in Australia, so you can choose the perfect one for your specific needs. A laptop that’s tailor-made for designersThe latest Gigabyte AERO 15 with OLED screen is by no means “technology for technology’s sake”. This is a a fully-realised platform tailored specifically to designers’ needs, which effortlessly combines all of the latest high-performance components into one, seamless, portable package that has no bottlenecks or weak points. Starting from just $2,699, the AERO 15 OLED is available in six different variants with a range of processor speeds and storage capacities so you can find the perfect laptop for your needs. 23. It's time for the reigning Formula 1 champion and season leader Lewis Hamilton to race on his home turf at Silverstone in the British Grand Prix. Will he come unstuck or is this yet more points in the bag for team Mercedes as Ferrari struggles ? The British Grand Prix can be enjoyed from wherever you are in the world using this F1 live stream guide. The great news is that this one is absolutely FREE in the UK! The 2019 F1 season has reached England and the Silverstone circuit which has been punishing lazy drivers since 1950. Hamilton compared driving this course to flying a fighter jet – yup, this is a fast one. In fact this is one of the fastest tracks on the F1 calendar. He should know - he's won here five times before and is going for a record sixth British Grand Prix victory. Despite being a fast car, Ferrari may struggle as team boss Matia Binotto has said he doesn't expect this track to suit the car that well. A new aerodynamic modification is being introduced for this race so, of course, anything can happen. With Charles Leclerc racing very well, securing his second place podium spot at Austria, and Sebastian Vettel pushing hard, this could be a good race for Ferrari. Another factor, that could mean Mercedes doesn't take yet more points, is the fact that Silverstone has had a new surface laid on it since F1 last visited the UK. That could mean a whole new level of strain for the tyres, especially the lateral load in high-speed corners, all resulting in a lot of uncertainty around this race. So, all in all, that should make for a very exciting weekend. This could be the race this season's been waiting for where the points finally get shared among other teams and you get to see it happen, live. 24. Samsung's Galaxy Note 10 has seen numerous high-profile leaks of late, including photos of the device spotted in the wild, and some incredibly convincing (and rather official-looking) renders which seemingly show the phone and its stylus in all their glory. Now, just weeks away from its official unveiling, Samsung's next productivity-focused flagship has been revealed in full thanks to a leak by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that was spotted by XDA Developers before being taken down. Leaked Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10 Pro case photos highlight their differencesSamsung Galaxy Note 10 might have redesigned camerasThe Samsung Galaxy Note 10 could have this next-gen sound techhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Ku9H697s9Yy8yqyK5u8HTc.jpg Image: XDA Developers / FCC Take noteAs you can see, the image above provides a clear look at the handset, offering a front-facing shot that includes device dimensions and a view of the phone's centered pinhole selfie camera, which has been teased by the company in the lead up to the Note 10's launch. The image also confirms previous rumours about a lack of any buttons along the right edge of the device, though there are physical keys on the left where the volume rocker and Bixby button have traditionally been located – it's unclear whether the polarizing Bixby key is returning or if it's been replaced by a left-mounted power button. Additionally, two other images featured on XDA Developers' post show the Note 10's front and back from different angles, seemingly confirming that the device will sport a vertically-aligned triple-lens camera on its left side and that it will indeed lack a 3.5mm headphone jack this time around. The FCC post also reveals that the Galaxy Note 10 will support the new Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard, and while there are plenty of mentions of LTE connectivity in the filing, 5G functionality is surprisingly absent. Of course, we'll have to wait until the device's official launch to get some truly concrete details about what the Galaxy Note 10 is capable of. 25. In March this year, Facebook released a tool called “Why am I seeing this?”, which allowed users to take a deeper look at the ads they were being shown and the reason they were being targeted. The service was created in response to the public outcry following events like the Cambridge Analytica scandal, which raised concerns about the abuse of user data by giant tech companies and the lack of privacy that it entails. Today, Facebook has announced that it's further improved the tool, claiming to have increased the amount of transparency offered overall. This includes much more intricate detail on the reason for being targeted, a clearer list of the companies that own and sell your data, and a direct link to a page where you can change your targeting preferences, including the ability to opt out entirely in certain instances. So... why am I seeing this? The feature is relatively easy to access. When you notice an ad in your Facebook feed, clicking on the three dots in the top right corner of it allows you to access a “Why am I seeing this?” screen. Previously, this area would show you one or two reasons for the ad being targeted at you. The reasons given were often rather vague, perhaps pointing out that you’re in an appropriate demographic to be targeted, or that you had visited the website of the product being advertised. Facebook pulls back the curtain on its newsfeed algorithmWith the update, the list of reasons will reportedly be more specific and complete, offering up particular details, such as the pages that you have liked or interests that you have listed, and how this has influenced the targeting. This improved page will also show you exactly where this information came from and gives you more direct controls for either hiding ads from this source or adjusting the control this advertiser has. A brief video courtesy of Facebook demonstrates the updated "Why am I seeing this?" tab. How do I opt out?Despite the apparent improvements to the clarity of these options, it’s still a rather labyrinthine process to access the settings, although once you have navigated to the appropriate page, the details on offer are more thorough. In order to view which marketing companies and data brokers have your information and are selling it to advertisers, head to Settings > Ads > Advertisers and Businesses > “Who have uploaded and shared a list with your info”. This shows you a list of all the companies with your personal data, from which point you can select ‘View details’ on each one and, for those users that have received the update, open the ‘Privacy options’ tab and opt out. While the update is now live, it isn’t yet available to everyone. Facebook hasn’t explicitly stated when it will become available to every user, but it's expected to slowly roll out in full over the coming weeks.
