  1. The MacBook butterfly keyboard issues feel like part of a never ending story, even after multiple attempts to improve the MacBook keyboards. Now, it appears the company may be close to putting the problems behind it entirely, as a report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo obtained by MacRumors suggests the company will use a new keyboard design in 2020. The new keyboard design will use a more traditional scissor switch mechanism, according to Kuo. He says, "there have been successful developments in the new scissor keyboard. The new keyboard could improve the typing experience by offering longer key travel and durability by adopting glass fiber to reinforce the keys' structure." The longer key travel would likely means a higher-profile design than the existing butterfly keyboards, but Kuo believes "most users can't tell the difference." Kuo expects the newly designed keyboards to appear in MacBook Pro models in 2020, which means any new MacBooks in the works that come out before then could still be stuck with the butterfly keyboard. Check out the MacBook Pro (2019)These are the best laptops you can getHere are the best Mac computers available right nowButterfly history becoming historyApple's butterfly keyboard key switches have been plagued with problems since their introduction in 2016, more or less forcing Apple to apologize for the issue and even go so far as to offer a worldwide repair program. Over multiple generations of MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro laptops, the keyboards have been an issue. Even as the company has revised the design, problems have persisted. The result for some MacBook owners has been unreliable typing experiences, as some keys would stop working while others could repeat keystrokes. That's not the kind of experience anyone would want to get from an expensive laptop. For both Apple's and consumers' sake, a switch to a new keyboard design on MacBook models could be a very good thing. 2. The first computer virus Many people are unaware that the first computer virus predates the public internet. In 1971 Bob Thomas, an American IT academic wrote Creeper, the first computer program that could migrate across networks. It would travel between terminals on the ARPANET printing the message “I’m the creeper, catch me if you can”. Creeper was made self-replicating by fellow academic and email inventor, Ray Thomlinson, creating the first documented computer virus. In order to contain Creeper, Thomlinson wrote Reaper, a program that would chase Creeper across the network and erase it – creating the world’s first antivirus cybersecurity solution. How cybersecurity has developed Back then it would have been hard to imagine how a virus as simple and harmless as Creeper could be the precursor to the development of destructive malware and ransomware such as ILOVEYOU and WannaCry. Thankfully, modern cybersecurity has come a long way since Reaper. These days, any mention of cybersecurity will inevitably lead to discussion about artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) driven security solutions. This is because the next generation of cybersecurity threats require agile and intelligent programs that can rapidly adapt to new and unforeseen attacks. AI and ML’s potential to meet this challenge certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed by cybersecurity decision makers, the vast majority of which believe that AI is fundamental to the future of cybersecurity. Yet despite the hype, many decision makers are still unsure about exactly how AI and ML powered security products work. AI and cybersecurity Recently “neural network” AI techniques have become extremely popular, fostering the perception that they’re shiny and new. Yet many are often surprised to learn that AI is not a new phenomenon. AI is by no means the new kid on the block, neural networks have been around for more than half a century, and some of the first commercial neural networks for malware detection and destruction were developed over 20 years ago – protecting against floppy disk boot sectors viruses in the age of Windows 98. Machine Learning techniques Another thing that seems to come as a surprise is just how many different places ML is found helping protect systems. This might be due to people reacting to the “machine” part of ML. In reality, ML is just another form of learning from examples—a concept everyone can understand. So, whether it’s a human or machine that’s learning to perform a task, all that matters is the level of sophistication and expertise that results. A good example is the predictive keyboard on your smartphone. It has a little machine learning engine in it that reads what you type and learns from your typing style to predict what you might say next—or at least what you intend to say next. As you feed it more and more text, it can more confidently and accurately learn what you personally say and how you say it. The value is that you have your own non-human helper that can predict your speech. Instead of a predictive keyboard, if we feed the ML your typing, mousing and other activities, it can learn even more about your unique behavior, becoming an expert at recognizing you and your little idiosyncrasies. Instead of text input, if you feed it malware - you have a malware detector. Feed it network attacks and you have an IDS. These and many variations are found in network and EPP products. It’s the first kind of application that many people think of for AI in cybersecurity, and it’s probably the most widespread and mature. In practice, machine learning is far more complex than merely tasking a computer to solve a problem. As with Creeper and Reaper, the development of ML- and AI-based threat detection takes a high degree of understanding built upon experience as well as an innovative approach that is always a few steps ahead of the attackers. 3. One of the biggest enemies of smartphone batteries are the phones' displays. They keep getting bigger, as demonstrated by the OnePlus 7 Pro's 6.67-inch display, and they need to be bright to be useful outdoors. That means even more energy use. But, a new OLED (organic light-emitting diode) technology could increase brightness and energy efficiency, Phys Orgreports. The new OLED technology is being developed by a team at the Departments of Physics and Chemistry at the Imperial College London. They're using a special development process that results in OLEDs that give off a polarized light. So, what's that all mean? Displays often include filters to help reduce glare from outside light sources (like the sun). These make it easier to see the light coming from your device's display, but they also can keep a lot of the display's light from coming through. Any light that doesn't make it to your eyes is essentially wasted energy. By creating OLEDs that emit polarized light, the team at the Imperial College London can get the light from the OLEDs to pass through a polarized filter while external light sources will still get filtered by it. See how LG is investing in OLED TVsThese are the best OLED TVsCheck out the best phones you can get right nowWhat it means for youFor now, this won't mean much for the phones we have in our hands. Since it's still being researched, it's not likely to find its way into upcoming phones very soon. But, it could eventually reach consumer devices from phones and TVs to smartwatches and more. When it does, it would result in brighter displays and improved energy efficiency. Displays would not need to use the same amount of energy to produce bright light since none of it would be filtered out. The new technology could almost double the efficiency of displays. And, that would mean much longer-lasting batteries for smartphones. Plenty of phones already get a full day of life, but that could go further. This technology has promise in more areas as well. Smartwatches don't have the freedom to pack large batteries, so any efficiency improvements would have a strong benefit. And, while OLED TV screens offer impressive contrast ratios, they don't always keep up with peak brightness of their LCD counterparts. The ability to have none of the light intensity lost to a polarized filter could give OLEDd displays a huge step forward in catching up. 4. It looks like Samsung could be about to launch a new tablet - or rather, upgrade an old one - with leaked specs claiming to be for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2019) hitting the web. If you want a powerful tablet you're best off looking at iPads, but many people don't need Apple's powerhouses, and look to the more affordable end of the market instead – and offerings such as Samsung's Galaxy Tab A range. German website Winfuture says it has got hold of a spec list for the upcoming tablet, which is set to replace the older Galaxy Tab A 8.0 model, and the list gives us an idea of what to expect when the tablet launches in the near future. These are the best Android tablets on the marketCheck out our review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5The best tablets money can buyFirst up the leak says the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2019) display is set to be 8 inches – that's literally in the name, so we'd be very, very surprised if it turned out not to be true. What's on the list?According to the leak, the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2019) will run on a Snapdragon 429 chipset, a low-end SoC (system on chip) launched in 2018 and designed for budget smartphones – so you won't be getting a huge amount of processing power in the slate, but its 'Tab A' title already gave that away. Joining that chipset, the leak suggests the tablet will have just 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. These numbers seem rather low, but with cloud storage getting more popular, internal memory isn't the most important thing any more. Saying that, 32GB storage is still rather low, but the specs list suggests there will be a microSD memory card slot to solve this issue. Powering the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 is a 5,100mAh battery, according to the leak, which isn't exactly a huge power pack, but it'll easily see you through a long-ish flight or family gathering. There's also set to be a 3.5mm headphone jack – it seems Samsung isn't ditching the port in its slates that it is in its phones. In terms of cameras, you could be seeing slightly worse specs than in the recent Galaxy Tab A 10.5, as while both have an 8MP rear camera, the older device had a 5MP front-facing snapper, while the 8.0 model apparently will only see a 2MP camera. Tablet cameras always have lower resolutions than smartphones, so that's not exactly a huge surprise, and you'll be mostly using it for video calls and chats. That's most of the important information about the tablet, and there's one thing left to know – is it worthy of your money? There's no way to know until it's been released, but stay tuned to TechRadar when it does for our expert reviews. With a potentially new tablet on the way, it could mean the current Galaxy Tab A series are in line for discounts during Amazon Prime Day, which runs July 15-16. 7. The TicWatch Pro is one of the best Wear OS watches on the market (especially if you're not wanting to spend too much money) but it may soon be ousted as the best TicWatch on the market. A new teaser video suggests Mobvoi (that's the manufacturer of TicWatch products) will be introducing a new smartwatch on July 10. Previously, we've seen a leak of the TicWatch Pro LTE edition when it appeared on Mobvoi's website before quickly being taken down. The speed with which it was removed suggests it is a real product, but that the company wasn't yet ready to announce it, so it's likely this that is now being teased. Read our full TicWatch Pro reviewOur ranking of the best Android smartwatchesOr perhaps you just want our best smartwatch guideThe teaser video, which you can see below, doesn't provide any real details about the device, but the watch shown in shadow does look remarkably similar to the original TicWatch Pro. A mobile boostWe expect the company to keep the same design as the original TicWatch Pro for the LTE edition, but there may be some improvements to the specs beyond the inclusion of the ability to connect to mobile internet. The original TicWatch Pro uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, but the LTE variant may boast the newer Wear 3100. Mobvoi's teaser suggests it will be fast and powerful, so that new chipset may be how the company will achieve this. The TicWatch Pro comes with a dual-screen technology that combines a 1.39-inch 400 x 400 color AMOLED display with a black and white screen. The idea is the latter display helps you save battery life and allows the watch to run for a whole month from a single charge. Other specs include 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, a variety of fitness features including a heart rate sensor, and the ability to use Google Pay. We'd expect all of these features would be retained or improved for this new device. 8. The Sony PlayStation Classic, the Japanese company's answer to the NES Classic Mini and SNES Classic Mini, never proved as popular as its Mario-packing rivals. But at its new all-time low price, ahead of Amazon Prime Day, it might finally be worth an impulse buy. The pint-sized PlayStation is available at Amazon and BestBuy for a mere $24.99. That's considerably cheaper than its original asking price of $99.99, and even less again than its last major price cut that brought it down to $59.99. It's put the retro console finally into impulse buy territory, and is well worth it for the price, even with its failings. Want something a little more modern? Maybe you want a PS4 Pro insteadHere's everything we know about Microsoft's Project ScarlettNeed a new game to play? Here are the best PS4 gamesThings to rememberSo what went wrong with the Sony PlayStation Classic? A few key things made it hard to recommend next to the competition. First of all, and crucially, its roster of games wasn't up to scratch compared to its Nintendo alternatives. Though there's not a bad game in its 20 title collection, with stone cold classics like Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid included, it was also lacking some defining PlayStation games like Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Tomb Raider and Silent Hill. The console also struggled with poor emulation performance, and a UI presentation that looked as if it has been knocked up in an afternoon. Put simply, it didn't feel like a premium package, despite its relatively high initial asking price. But now it's not rocking a full price (or even half price) sticker price, it's incredibly easy to recommend. That's a lot of game for your buck there, and the neat little mini PlayStation design is cute too – especially if you can be bothered to hack it. Looking to the future? 9. UAE-headquartered telecom operator Etisalat is constructing two additional data centers - Jebel Ali and Al Ain - in a bid to meet the growing demand of digital transformation in the UAE and in preparation for Expo 2020. Miguel Angel Villalonga, vice-president for cloud and datacenter at Etisalat Digital, exclusively told TechRadar Middle East that the Al Ain campus will be up and running in the third quarter of this year. “The Al Ain campus will have an area of 1,700 square metres. It will be in four rooms and on two floors. The overall IT power will be 4MW while the average density per rack will be 6kW,” he said. UAE's largest data centerThe Jebel Ali campus will be Etisalat’s biggest data center in the UAE and is expected to go live by the third quarter of 2020. “It [Jebel Ali campus] will have an initial capacity of 12.4MW of IT power and will be able to cater to the needs of the customers for the next five years,” he said. The Jebel Ali campus will have an area of about 4,000 square metres of white space and divided into eight different data halls while the density of the data centers will be 6.5 kiloWatt per rack. Villalonga mentioned a major challenge is to cool the IT equipment which results in huge electricity bill at the end of each month. Expo 2020 to raise demands for cloud servicesBig tech companies have shown interest in the region, especially in the UAE, to open data centers. Amazon Web Services has data centers in Bahrain and the UAE. Oracle, Microsoft and Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, have also invested in the UAE while Huawei is set to open its data center this year. With Expo 2020 coming in, an industry expert predicts that demand for cloud services is going to be huge and Etisalat wants to fulfil that by ramping up its infrastructure as it is the official telecom provider for Expo 2020. “We built the data centers initially for government and enterprise customers but what we are seeing is that smaller companies, especially SMEs, are moving to the cloud to cut costs and boost efficiency,” Villalonga said. Etisalat has 10 commercial data centers in the country, eight owned and two that are third-party and white-labelled but sold under Etisalat name. Jebel Ali will be the 12th data center in the country but the operator is also planning to retire some of the older data centers and move customers to the new campus in the next two years. 10. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is taking South Korean electronics giant Samsung to court, alleging the smartphone maker has misled consumers about the water resistance of Galaxy handsets. According to the ACCC, "Samsung has widely advertised on social media, online, TV, billboards, brochures and other media that the Galaxy phones are water resistant and depicted them being used in, or exposed to, oceans and swimming pools." This depiction, says the watchdog, is false advertising and wrongly represents Galaxy phones as being "suitable for use in, or for exposure to, all types of water, including in ocean water and swimming pools". The best Samsung phones of 2019: find the right Galaxy for youThe ACCC isn't claiming that Samsung's handsets are not water resistant – its beef seems to be with the way the Korean company has advertised its wares and the implied degree of waterproofing they provide. For example, an ad in Australia for the Samsung Galaxy A5 shows a surfer breaking through a wave, while another ad for the Samsung Galaxy S7 has two people jumping into a pool fully clothed. While many of the Galaxy phones, including the Galaxy S and Galaxy A series, are capable of withstanding water to varying levels depending on their IP rating, the ACCC isn't happy with the fact the fine print on website claims the Samsung Galaxy S10 phones have only been tested in "fresh water" conditions. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ohGpkm8PBYeFvBF9PrzFs8.png An ad for the Samsung Galaxy A5 | Image: Samsung A premium featureTo bolster its case, the ACCC will be relying on over 300 ads published on different platforms since 2016 that show the phones in different aquatic environments, including salt water and swimming pools, with the watchdog alleging that Samsung has no basis to make those depictions. The ACCC has also noted that some of Samsung’s phones are sold at higher prices because of their IP ratings. For example, the high-end Galaxy S10e includes water resistance and sells for AU$1,199, whereas the cheaper AU$399 Galaxy J8 lacks any official water resistance rating. With over four million Galaxy phones already sold in Australia, the ACCC is worried that purchasers weren't able to make a fully informed choice, as the ads were designed to attract attention without providing sufficient information. This, the watchdog claims, has given Samsung an "unfair competitive advantage" in the market. For its part, Samsung is standing by its marketing material, and says it will defend itself when the case comes up in the Australian Federal Court. 11. Realme Mobiles has showcased its Realme X Spider-Man edition for India ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home on Friday. It's not uncommon for smartphones manufacturers to partner with pop-culture icons and is something we have previously seen from companies like OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Oppo. Realme is just another addition to this list with its upcoming Realme X which will launch on July 15. Realme X was announced on May 15 at an event in China, and Realme CEO Madhav Sheth had hinted that it was going to be priced around ₹18,000-mark. Realme X Spider-Man Edition: What's new?http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3BWtkh6MRESosM7cQ7zRfS.jpg There doesn't seem to be any cosmetic change to the Realme X for the Spider-Man edition. The Realme X Spider-Man Far From Home Gift Box is clad in red and white color with two different Spider-Man symbol on the cover of the box. Inside the box, we get the Realme X, VOOC 3.0 adapter, Spider-Man case, and a sim-eject pin. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/QHJRMzi9hL2Rhyc84pfubn.jpg The phone included in the box is the Steam White variant though we're not sure if the blue color will also be available. Switching on the phone, its greets users by a custom Spider-Man theme including wallpaper and icon packs. Other than these changes, let's take a look at the specifications of the Realme X. Realme X specificationsRealme X features a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution and is topped with a layer of Corning's Gorilla Glass 5. As the phone makes use of a pop-up selfie camera, the screen has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio with 85.9% screen-to-body-ratio. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 616 as the graphics processor. This is paired with different RAM and storage configurations- 4GB RAM + 64GB, 4GB + 64GB or 8GB + 128GB storage. It runs on Android 9.0 Pie based ColourOS 6. The phone has a dual camera setup which consists of a primary 48MP sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and a secondary 5MP depth sensor. The pop-up module houses a 16MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Realme X also features an in-display fingerprint sensor and is fitted with a 3,765mAh battery which supports 20W fast charging courtesy of VOOC 3.0 charging standard. While we do not know the prices yet, Realme has revealed that the Realme X will be the"most affordable premium smartphone," though we'd take that with a grain of salt. The image, leaked by camera-rumors website Nokishita, shows a camera that resembles the Panasonic FZ2000 II, a superzoom compact that Panasonic unveiled back in February. Best bridge camera 2019: 10 cameras that pack huge zoom lenses Leica Q2: 10 things we've learnt from our testsRead about the new Leica M-E (Typ 240) herePanasonic and Leica have long been buddies where camera development is concerned, so this similarity shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The previous Leica V-Lux (Typ 114) was modelled on the Panasonic FZ1000, which arrived back in 2014, while previous V-Lux models, in addition to the likes of the D-Lux 7 and C-Lux lines, have also been quite clearly based on Panasonic releases. Interestingly, Leica didn't release a model based on the Panasonic FZ2500 / FZ2000, which was announced back in 2017. What we expectSo what will the Leica V-Lux 5 offer? The Panasonic FZ1000 II is designed around a 20MP 1-inch sensor and a zoom lens that offers a focal range equivalent to 25-400mm in 35mm terms. It also packs a 5-axis hybrid Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.+) and 4K video recording, in addition to a 2.36 million-dot EVF, a flip-out touchscreen and 12fps burst shooting. We reckon Leica will get these specs, although the body is likely to have a few cosmetic changes to distinguish it from the FZ1000 II, and the user interface is also likely to be different. While the FZ1000 II's RRP of $899 / £769 / AU$1,399 places it towards the middle of the pack for a camera with these kinds of specs, we also think it's likely the Leica V-Lux 5 will have a higher RRP – because, after all, it's a Leica. This model is arguably more interesting and certainly more eye-catching than the black and silver shades that you could already get the phone in, and it’s the same price at £479 (around $600 / AU$860), which gets you 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Indeed, the specs and design are the same as the previous models, and while you can get the Black Shark 2 in a version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the Glory Blue model isn’t available in that configuration. 15. Huawei has started rolling out their latest OS update, EMUI 9.1, to a wide array of Huawei phones in the UAE starting with the Mate 20 series. The update brings with it a host of speed and performance upgrades along with key design and AI improvements that will make your Huawei phone feel more pleasant and intuitive to use. Here’s why you should be excited for Huawei’s most advanced software update ever: All-new super file system for faster random read performanceOne of the major improvements in EMUI 9.1 is an over-hauled file system that promises 20% faster random read times and faster loading of apps. Where most operating systems rely on the flash memory based F2FS system, EMUI 9.1 will use Huawei’s own EROFS file system. It’s designed to be read-only for tighter security and restricts intrusion by prohibiting system partition re-writes form third-party software. And there’s good news for those irked by how much of their precious storage was eaten up by the OS. EROFS uses advanced file compression to reduce the amount of storage it needs on your device, freeing up space for personal use. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/vDVK7Md9FuXodJqzXvyeZ8.png Better visuals and smoother gaming performance with GPU Turbo 3.0Gamers watch out! If you loved the improved gaming performance brought by GPU Turbo .2.0 in your Huawei device before you’ll love what’s coming in the next version. Expect faster performance that puts less strain on the chipset and reduces power consumption by 10%, high frame rates and better visuals. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/z5LFjj5g8Smxwqun87umm8.png GPU Turbo 3.0 will work with twenty five of the most popular mobile games in the world to give gamers almost full-frame rates without compromising performance. It will also use AI image scheduling to improve visual performance in dark environments, smoothing out jagged edges and ensuring details in images pop out. Focus on design and user experienceEMUI 9.1’s interface design pays particular attention to creating a natural aesthetic that makes the phone’s UI feel more organic and less notably digital. It makes the device pleasant and elegant to use. Huawei have achieved this by revamping themes, wallpapers and icons on the phone that are more in line with this new aesthetic. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oEDsB7mGvwQuwbNzdvkwg8.png Capture the Moon like never beforeMate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X users will be able to snap clearer and closer pictures of the moon with a new ‘moon mode’. This will be part of the super zoom available in the devices’ triple Leica camera setup. Improved convenience and so much moreThere’s still a lot more to look forward to with EMUI 9.1 such as an ‘incoming call video. show’ feature that lets users select their own or use third party incoming call displays for contacts. Improved convenience delivered by additional features like AR Measure that can not only measure the length of objects but also their volume with great accuracy. The health app on Huawei devices will also be a better workout partner by giving you more accurate information on steps taken, speed and calories burned as well as allowing you to connect your Huawei device to certain treadmills. Other convenient improvements including being able to call up Google Assistant without having to turn on the screen through Anytime Assistant by pressing and holding the power button. If you own a Huawei laptop, you’ll soon be able to share files between your Huawei phone and computer with a simple tap. No need to go through a complicated pairing process. When you feel like sharing a screen recording of your computer while gaming, you only need to shake and tap your Huawei phone and a sixty second recording will be saved on the phone. EMUI 9.1 update roadmapAll these features and much more are available right now for certain Huawei phones. The update is rolling out on the Mate 20 series including Porsche Design Mate 20 RS, Huawei Nova 3e, P Smart and Y9 (2018). Huawei is committed to providing continuous updates and support to their user base and will push the update out to even more models over July and August including the Huawei P20 range, the Mate 9 and 10 series, the Nova and Y series. The update should show up automatically on your Huawei device. In case, it doesn’t, you can check manually buy going to Settings > System > Software update]> Check for updates. you can also download the update through Huawei’s HiCare app by going to HiCare App > Update > Download. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/iAZWY8GFNWk
  16. The Samsung Galaxy Watch is nearing its first birthday, and we may see a next-gen version of the device launch in the near future to celebrate. The invite for the company's big Galaxy Note 10 launch on August 7 includes a hint that we'll be seeing more than just the phone, and there's a good chance we may see a new smartwatch from the company. In an accompanying email to the invite, Samsung said it "will unveil new devices designed to take the Galaxy ecosystem’s connectivity to the next level." Take note of the word "devices", which seems an intentional hint that it won't all be about the Note 10. Check out our original Samsung Galaxy Watch reviewOr there's the Galaxy Watch Active insteadWhy not try our best smartwatch list?Although that's not confirmation of a new smartwatch, it would make sense for Samsung to unveil a new Tizen-sporting device alongside its next-gen Note phone. The original Galaxy Watch was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 9 in August 2018, while the Gear Sport was introduced alongside the Note 8 a year earlier in August 2017. The Gear S3 was launched a little later in the year before that during November 2016. So this seems a likely venue. Recent Samsung wearable devices have also been unveiled alongside phones, including the Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit E, which were all revealed at the company's Galaxy S10 event. We've also seen leaks of the Galaxy Watch Active 2, so that may alternatively make an appearance, or these "devices" may be totally unrelated to the company's wearables. We could instead (or as well) see new tablets, DeX products or accessories launched alongside the Note 10, but if you're looking to buy the Galaxy Watch you may find it worth waiting until August 7 to see if there's a better device in the works. 17. Riding into 2019 on a wave of hype, the Oculus Quest has captivated seasoned VR gamers and newcomers alike. That's partly down to its untethered, wireless nature - we're still loving the ability to pack it into a bag, take it to a friend or family member’s house and jump back into the action without worrying about hooking up a gaming PC and finicky sensors. Of course, no gaming system will gain traction without, well, great games. And thankfully the Quest launched with an eclectic library of titles that spans genres and serves up a myriad of stellar experiences. Let's dive into the best Oculus Quest games that you can play today, and read on to find out what our picks of the best Oculus Quest games are. Oculus Rift S vs Rift vs Quest: which VR headset is right for you?http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/hEc46A8LXdbkWhrMatzJuT.png Oculus Quest games on our radar: OnwardOnward, a tactical Mil-Sim (or military simulator) that's gained a devoted following on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift (and now Rift S), is a hugely anticipated port for the Quest. It’s a shooter that practically demands to be played in warpaint and camo combat overalls thanks to its manual combat controls, which lend it a distinctly realistic feel. When reloading, many weapons require you to physically reach out and discard the ammo clip, before grabbing and inserting a new one from your belt then cocking a lever to chamber a round. Clips suddenly feel like slippery fish as you cower on the family room floor, back to the couch, frantically attempting to reload as the sound of enemy gunfire draws closer. Playing Onward with an untethered, room-scale set-up should only add to the appeal. Its maps, which range from desert outposts to deserted underground stations, provide plenty of options for diving for cover in the real world. Which is half the fun, if you ask us. Expected: Hopefully sometime in 2019 Without further ado, on to the games you can get right now for your VR headset... http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/FEpTQTitfRgXqisvsrPVaN.jpg Beat SaberBeat Saber has sold more than a million units across existing VR platforms for good reason – it's addictive as heck – and simple enough for anyone to jump into. The aim is to slice red and blue blocks in time to music using dual lightsabers while contorting your limbs to duck and dodge advancing walls. At lower difficulties it's fun, but things get really interesting on 'Hard or 'Expert'. Stick with it, and you'll eventually enter a ‘flow state’ where your arms operate independent of thought. Suddenly you’re slicing through blocks like Luke Skywalker if he'd drummed for Pendulum instead of becoming a Jedi. Make sure you have a big enough play space to execute 360-degree dance moves (which is exclusive to Quest), and hooking up external headphones (especially ones with deep bass) is a must. Following a recent update, it's even possible to cast gameplay to mobile devices and certain Chromecast models to show off your moves to friends. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Ja8Pks3ERbCWDuCsMctSXN.jpg Robo Recall: UnpluggedIt's fair to say that few people outside of Drifter, the studio hand-picked by original developer Epic to port Robo Recall to the Quest, expected Unplugged to play nearly identical to the full-fat Oculus Rift version that came out in 2017. While its graphical downgrades are noticeable, the humorous VR wave shooter is arguably even more exhilarating owed to the Quest's 360-degree freedom. The ability to teleport behind rogue bots, grab them by the chin and spin round to launch them into oncoming enemies is something that wasn't easy on the Rift without risking serious ankle injury. Added to Unplugged's consistent frame-rate, all of the above makes going for a high-score all the more enjoyable. Everything from dodging (and deflecting) incoming bullets to using crawlers as makeshift rocket launchers feels like taking part in the Robo-recalling olympics. As one of the droids would say: service with a smile. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/g9868PPzvidfWZ9C5E9EXN.jpg Racket Fury: Table Tennis VRA well-received title on the Oculus Go, arcade-styled ping-pong-a-thon Racket Fury is one of the most moreish titles on the Quest. Ideal for quick 10-minute blasts and hour-long sessions alike, you can take on increasingly difficult CPU opponents or attempt to ascend the rankings in online multiplayer. There's two gameplay modes: Arcade and Simulation. Arcade is faster-paced while making it easier to execute power shots with less accuracy, whereas Simulation demands a deft hand if you want to avoid the ball careering past the edge of the table. Despite its online mode suffering from a point-scoring glitch, Racket Fury is one of the few sports games on the Quest where we never fail to find active players (at least in the Europe lobby, anyway). So we'll continue enjoying it – at least until Eleven arrives. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/LoCFUcza45jYwytCDntkWN.jpg Superhot VRSuperhot has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a browser-based tech demo in 2013. The first-person shooter has found a natural home on the Quest, where it makes the most of 360-degree tracking by having enemies flank you from all sides. Because time moves in slow-motion when you do, Superhot VR benefits from the flexibility of a bigger playspace. As the difficulty ramps up, you'll need every inch of cover to dodge incoming fire, bullet-time style, while shattering faceless enemies using guns, shurikens, and - most satisfyingly - your clenched fists. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/nkkU636Q58WkzBtQQWMCXN.jpg MossPuzzle-platform fans will feel better about Astro Bot being a PS4 exclusive once they’ve given Moss a go. Developed by former Bungie developers, this cutesy third-person adventure is visually one of the more impressive titles on the Quest, which helps draw you into its immersive 3D environments. You guide Quill, a swashbuckling mouse who’s on a quest to save her uncle after their kingdom was overthrown by a hot-headed snake. Far from a gimmick, Moss employs a clever use of VR that helps you manipulate the environment and guide Quill around levels, tackling environmental puzzles and engaging in combat with enemies along the way. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/kyH9ysVEcr3zNDV8WvtgoW.jpg Space Pirate TrainerHaving debuted on the Vive back in 2016, Space Pirate Trainer is the OG VR wave blaster. Now on the Quest, it’s one of our favorite games to show off to VR newbies thanks to its simplistic gameplay mechanics, frenetic droid-blasting action and thumping soundtrack. This golden oldie is almost a whole new experience without a cord tethering you to the spot. Choosing from an assortment of weapons and gadgets, including a nifty shield, the added movement afforded by the Quest’s inside-out tracking system is almost an additional weapon in itself. It all makes for a physically demanding experience on the Quest – stay rooted to the spot and you’ll be blasted into oblivion. While its gameplay can become repetitive over time, like Beat Saber, it has a magnetic ‘one more go’ feeling about it that seems to pull us back in. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/gTuTjgJNpH2CbyG8wP2MZN.jpg CreedCreed is one of the best workouts on Oculus Quest and a must for boxing fans. Whereas its challenging single-player campaign places an emphasis on patience, timed dodging and striking at hit points on the opponent's torso, online multiplayer presents a different challenge – and it's there that Creed shines. With a big enough playspace, tactics suddenly come into play. Do you pick to play a brawler like Drago and come forward applying pressure? Or choose a fighter with better stamina and fight at the end of a jab while maintaining distance? As they say, styles make fights, and Creed does an admirable job of making its movie-themed characters translate as yours. It may not be the bona-fide boxing sim we're waiting for, (are you listening, Thrill of the Fight?) but it’s keeping our ring rust at bay for now. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/zWZDFkFyrks7BheZQPqiZN.jpg PavlovA word of warning: though Pavlov can be played on Oculus Quest, the FPS is currently an Open Alpha release, so you won't find it in the Oculus Store. However, if you're prepared to sideload it, you can jump into the action early. Join the Pavlov Discord channel for installation instructions and help from its friendly community. A huge hit on other VR platforms, Pavlov is essentially Counter: Strike in VR. The alpha presents two game modes: Deathmatch, and Search & Destroy, the latter of which involves one team planting a bomb while the other attempts to diffuse it. Like Onward, Pavlov requires you to reload guns manually – though it's faster-paced than the Mil-Sim and there's rarely a long wait inbetween rounds if you're taken out. Shooting feels satisfying, with a decent amount of weapon recoil and meaty sound effects, while variety in handguns, rifles and machine guns make for varied yet balanced gameplay. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/cWW335vt9rkPRgn2a3TvWN.jpg Journey of the GodsUntil a Legend of Zelda game designed from the ground up for VR arrives, Journey of the Gods is the closest thing going. Flaunting an attractive cell-shaded art style that brings its giant and grotesque bosses to life, Gods employs clever use of scale as you traverse its large yet linear levels. While most of the action-adventure game is viewed in the first-person, a ‘God mode’ lets you manipulate the environment from a strategic top-down perspective to solve puzzles and gain the upper hand in combat. A large play space comes in handy in physically sidestepping projectiles or spinning around to face enemies with your sword and shield when surrounded. The most fun weapon in the game, however, is the crossbow, which is manually reloaded using a crank handle and rewards careful judgement of distance and timing. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/D4Hx2qcdyDvJFuAvTYxnWN.jpg Rec RoomUntil Pavlov and Onward see proper releases, Rec Room’s Paintball mode remains one of the most playable FPS experiences on the Quest. And that’s just one tiny element of the social VR experience, which remains free-to-play and continues to prove popular on the back of a virtual world that’s constantly growing. Even without its Battle Royal mode, which is planned to come to the Quest, Rec Room still offers Charades, Dodgeball, and Paddleball, alongside custom user-created rooms and a cooperative adventure called Quest for the Golden Trophy. Rec Room may have its challenges related to the behaviour of its young playerbase, but it’s hard not to be impressed by the amount of content on offer. 18. Now well over 6 months old, there's no doubt that iPhone XR deals are heading in only one direction...down. Now Virgin Mobile is not only giving you the iPhone XR for £32 a month (over 36 months), but also throwing in a £159 pair of Apple AirPods for an extra quid per month. That's a tough deal to top. If you want to go a little more old school then the iPhone 8 is available for the same £33 per month with 20GB of data, unlimited texts and 5,000 minutes. Or, if you trade-in an old phone – yes, any phone – and go for an iPhone 7 on contract, then you get an impressive £100 cashback as well. For those needing SIM only deals, Virgin Mobile is now offering a tariff for £9 per month that gets you 6GB or £15 for 25GB. That also comes with roll-over data so anything you don't use can be used next month instead. But with free WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Twitter data you'll have to use a lot of YouTube and Spotify to use up that allowance. The carrier hosted a 5G switch-on event in London to mark the day, with the capital along with Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol all getting 5G from today, July 3, 2019. Interestingly though, Vodafone says it won't charge customers more for its 5G plans, keeping them the same price as 4G plans. Vodafone also has launched new unlimited data plans as well, with three different price tiers with different top speeds. If you want the best 5G speeds, and unlimited data, you'll be paying £30 per month with the new Unlimited Max plan. 5G phone deals - the best prices and contractsFor those on tighter budgets, or with less demanding usage, you also have the choice of Unlimited Lite (for £23 per month), which offers speeds of just 2Mbps aimed at those who only use their phones for basic actions such as social media. The Unlimited plan will set you back £26 per month with a max speed of 10Mbps, which Vodafone says will be able to handle video calls and video streaming. While Vodafone's 5G service has gone live in the seven cities, don't expect coverage to be available across the entirety of the locations. This is still early days for 5G, and Vodafone (and the other networks) will gradually ramp up coverage in cities over the coming months. 5G in the UK: the what, where and how muchThe 5G phones available right nowWhat is 5G? A new device has just been given the go-ahead from Bluetooth SIG (that's the certification body for devices that use the connectivity tech) and it looks like it may be the Fossil Sport 2. We know the product listed was certified on July 1, and we know that it's built by Fossil. That doesn't guarantee that it's a Fossil Sport sequel, as the company makes a variety of watches under different brand names, but considering the model numbers it looks like it may be the case. Read our full Fossil Sport reviewThe Fossil Sport 2 may hit our best Wear OS watchesDon't want a watch? Try best fitness trackersAccording to the listing, this new device has a codename of DW10F1. Considering the original Fossil Sport had the name of DW9F1, it's not difficult to work out that this may be the Sport 2. Later this year? This device has already been mentioned in a listing alongside four other products including ones we expect to sport Michael Kors, Emporio Armani and Diesel branding. We've yet to see Bluetooth SIG details for these four other watches, so it may be the company is nearer to releasing the DW10F1 than the other products. Exactly what spec we will see on the Fossil Sport 2 is unclear. We can likely expect to see the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset running inside (that's the same as the original Sport) and we may see some improved fitness features on the watch too. The original Fossil Sport was released in November last year, so it may be we have to wait a few months to see this new model. That said, Bluetooth certification usually means a product is nearing release, so we may hear about it before the Fossil Sport's anniversary. 21. The US Huawei ban may not be coming to an end any time soon after all following new reports that the Chinese phone giant is still under severe restrictions. According to Reuters, staff at the US Commerce Department enforcement team have been told by senior officials that Huawei should still be treated as blacklisted, and US companies remain restricted in dealing with them. This comes despite President Trump appearing to lighten his stance on the Chinese giant at the G20 summit in Japan just a matter of days ago. ARM stops all work with Huawei following US banHuawei topples Apple in global smartphone salesIntel and Qualcomm lobby against Huawei banBarredOn Saturday, Trump had promised Chinese President Xi Jinping that he would allow U.S. companies to resume selling products to Huawei, which had been under severe restrictions. "US companies can sell their equipment to Huawei," Trump had stated, specifying "I'm talking about equipment where there is no great national emergency problem". The President also seemed to indicate that Huawei would play a significant role in the newly-resuming trade talks between the US and China, saying, "We're going to work with China on where we left off." Huawei was added to the Entity List by the Trump administration back in May following ongoing allegations of corroboration with the Chinese government, as well as reportedly working with Iran and North Korea. The email seen by Reuters was sent by John Sonderman, Deputy Director of the Office of Export Enforcement in the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). It looks to clear up how its agents should approach license requests by firms seeking approval to sell to Huawei, noting that although all applications should be considered on merit, they should also include the caveat that “This party is on the Entity List". These applications would also be subject to the “presumption of denial” licensing policy applied to blacklisted companies. In a statement to Reuters, Huawei reported that company founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei had said Trump’s G20 statements were “good for American companies”. “Huawei is also willing to continue to buy products from American companies. But we don’t see much impact on what we are currently doing. We will still focus on doing our own job right,” the company said. You'll only need to enter the CCV code (the last three numbers on the back of your card) to go ahead with your shopping spree. According to Google's Chromium blog, this requirement means you're "always in control", but it could be alarming to see your card number and expiry date automatically entered on a new device if you're not expecting it. That syncing feelingThe new feature will only work if you've signed into your Google account in Chrome, and it won't cause your bookmarks and other settings to be synchronized. "Every time you open your browser, you have a task in mind to accomplish. We’ve built Chrome to help you do that as quickly and safely as possible, whether you are completing a search, viewing a website, or making a purchase," said Google. The fact that automatically completing card details reduces friction between seeing an ad in Google Search and handing over your cash is probably just a happy coincidence. In an unprecedented move, Sony is swapping out its line-up of PS Plus games for July. Subscribers had been promised free access to Konami's PES 2019 football game as part of the online subscription package this month, but it's now being removed and replaced. Instead, you will be getting the vastly different Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe edition from developers Quantic Dream. "We are making a swap to the PS Plus games lineup for July," an update to the previous PS Plus post reads. "This month, we are adding Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition, which also includes Heavy Rain, to the July games lineup instead of Pro Evolution Soccer 2019. We apologise for any inconvenience." PlayStation Plus July 2019: all the free games you can getThe cheapest PlayStation Plus dealsPS5: all the games, specs, news and rumorsMystery movesIt's a mysterious and rare move for Sony. So why did it take place? There was a little backlash to PES 2019's inclusion initially (though TechRadar staff were quite looking forward to thrashing each other on the pitch), and its presence would have made for a fully sports-orientated PS Plus month. The second game remains unchanged, being indie car racing game Horizon Chase Zero. In addition, despite recently being on sale, Detroit: Become Human arguably offers better value to subscribers than PES 2019 – it was released as a AAA exclusive initially, and its Digital Deluxe edition also includes its spiritual predecessor, the narrative-and-choice driven crime adventure Heavy Rain in its enhanced PS4 form. It's worth noting that Quantic Dream's games had, until recently, been PlayStation exclusives. Last month saw Heavy Rain hitting PC, and Detroit: Become Human will be joining it in "the fall". A third game in the loosely connected series, Beyond: Two Souls, will also hit PC platforms on July 22. It's possible that Sony wanted to give them one last hurrah on its platform before they head off to pastures new. Though divisive (and somewhat controversial) at launch, Detroit: Become Human is undeniably an interesting title, being a story driven thriller set in a near future where human-like androids live among us. It's not the beautiful game, but it's a worthy game nonetheless. Give it a try. Detroit: Become Human review: brilliant but flawedhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/RJwn--4AfxA

But New Zealand have the same brief, and with Pakistan and Bangladesh breathing down both team's necks in the hunt for a semi-final birth, its a match neither team can afford to lose. Don't miss a ball of today's crucial game no matter where you are in the world by using our England vs New Zealand live stream guide below. With their destiny in their own hands, a win today will ensure a place for Eoin Morgan's men in the World Cup semis. They definitely benefited from the high-scoring pitch at Edgbaston against India, and it's looking like a similar playing surface for today's game in Durham. Having seen Sri Lanka and West Indies combine to score over 650 total runs at the Riverside on Monday, you sense England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow will be chomping at the bit for their stints at the crease. A six wicket defeat to Pakistan followed by Sunday's loss to neighbourly rivals Australia will have dented New Zealand's morale, meaning a professional job is needed today by the Kiwis to settle nerves and show the wheels aren't about to fall off. A survey conducted by Decluttr on 2,000 smartphone owners in the US asked a variety of non-typical questions about their usage, and found that many users weren’t fully aware of what their device was capable of. 5G is a state of mindWhen it came to iPhone owners, those who thought their device was 5G capable varied by carrier, ranging from almost a quarter (24%) of Verizon customers to almost half (47%) of those with AT&T. There is currently no 5G-capable iPhone available. As for Samsung handset owners, the numbers were even higher, although this could be due to some customers owning the latest Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and correctly identifying its connectivity. Furthermore, almost two-thirds (62%) of those that thought they had a 5G-capable device claimed they noticed improvements to their service despite the unlikelihood of them owning a compatible device or being in an area that has widespread 5G coverage. Snapdragon 855: here's a list of phones with the 5G-ready chipset5G smartphone shipments will overtake 4G by 2023Hands on: Samsung Galaxy S10 5G reviewFeatures? When shown images of their phone next to others from the same manufacturer, only around half of the survey participants were able to correctly identify their own model of handset, with the iPhone XR and iPhone 7 users scoring the lowest success rate of 44%. In defense of these customers, it is getting somewhat more difficult to compare phone models by simply looking at an image of them, given how similar-looking some of their facades are these days. Moreover, it’s unclear if the participants were asked to name the model they owned as well. According to the survey, many users were also unaware of their handset’s star features, such as the wireless charging on Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9 devices (60% of owners were unaware of this). Only around half of iPhone X, iPhone XR, and iPhone XS owners knew about the handsets' water resistant design. While this study is interesting, it’s worth noting that Decluttr – the site that conducted this survey – is also selling refurbished phones, and as such has a somewhat vested interest in claiming that many of the latest smartphone features are unnecessary.
