Dragonji
Sorry for a link only but I was posting from my mobile phone. The main idea here is to prevent some admins from putting x bots on spectator and as crapshoot said:The only sure fire way to prevent it is to have mods add a check in the SetTeam function that prevents bots from choosing spectator. Management gaoesa Posted August 15, 2012 Management Share Posted August 15, 2012 You're right. It should be prevented. Although, I started thinking of any real uses for bots in spec. It would be fun to have a talking "admin" bot in spec, responding to what ever is written into the chats
Aniky
Normally bots were put to spec / still are at jaymod / popular server, when theres around 15 normal players and some of bots, so admins decides to rather put bots on spec as that way the game can be more enjoyable and played by normal players only, if theres a mod to actually put the bots to spec, it definitely shouldn't be removed as at least admins of popular server find it useful. Management gaoesa Posted August 15, 2012 Management Share Posted August 15, 2012 That scenario can be handled by maxbots command and also editing the omni bot scripts so that after a certain threshold, the rest of the bots get removed. I mean specifically allowing more bots to play when the server is emptier but reducing the maxbots value based on the amount of players on the server. clan DIABOLIK
Petbark
We have maxbots set to 10 so as a player joins a bit leaves and once you have 10 players actually playing and not in spec then the bots are gone until the number of real players falls below 10 then the bots join up. We have a custom command for admins to use to turn bots off if they want a more 2 on 2 action.

belstgut
It would be fun to have a talking "admin" bot in spec, responding to what ever is written into the chats imo there's no need for a bot in spec isnt it enough if you do this via console message? like console: ^1Adminbot: ^7Message
Management gaoesa Posted August 17, 2012 Management Share Posted August 17, 2012 It was just a fun thought that came to mind when I was thinking what consequences preventing bots in spec could have. I was thinking it would keep the players at their toes about insults and stuff by fooling them to think there was an admin in spec. Of course we are not pursuing with this. crapshoot
You could limit the number of bots in spec to 1 or something for that functionality. The issue is (as that screenshot shows) that server owners are placing x amount of bots in spectator to mislead players browsing the server list that are looking for highly populated servers. This is certainly not what we had in mind while dedicating thousands of hours developing omnibot .... However, I don't think the preventing bots from being in spec is the right solution since there are other ways to fake the number of players on a server. In my opinion, the best way to handle this would be to add 'blacklist' functionality to the server browser which would allow users to filter out servers they are not interested in. Management TheSilencerPL Posted August 17, 2012 Management Share Posted August 17, 2012 But bots have 0 ping, so players can find out that there are only bots in spec.
Management gaoesa Posted August 17, 2012 Management Share Posted August 17, 2012 Bots have '-' ping. But the issue is the server browser.
Management TheSilencerPL Posted August 17, 2012 Management Share Posted August 17, 2012 In silEnT yes, but I've had the impression we've been talking in general. The screenshot has zeroes.
Management gaoesa Posted August 17, 2012 Management Share Posted August 17, 2012 For generic solution, fixing it from the server browser would not have large effect. Preventing bot's from being in spec, or limiting the amount at least, would have bigger impact.

Dragonji
Just curious if there is any news regarding the subject.
Dookie
Its not just a bots that are problem, if you open server browser, and click on players, so it will show up servers with the most players, like all server with 40+ players, are fake, redirecting to another server's...So thats why certain servers got huge popularity... If you click on any server from this list, you will be redirected to some other empty/ full of bots servers... except kernawaffe http://imageshack.us/a/img94/8655/wet20120918134555.png Edited September 18, 2012 by Dookie
Dragonji
But silEnT mod team obviously cannot do anything about the masterlist.

If you click on any server from this list, you will be redirected to some other empty/ full of bots servers... I don't understand how an empty/only bots server can have a huge popularity at the same time. So this sounds like a contradiction. However, I have seen this discussion before and I hope it will not be started here. At least not at the silEnT subforum. Like Dragon said, there is nothing we can do to the fake information in the masterlist. Putting large numbers of bots to the spectators is of course something we can address. Sorry, no news of this yet. This is not among the highest priority tasks because there are so many other ways for adding the fake information to the list.
