  1. When Apple announced its plans for a new streaming service called Apple TV Plus, The Morning Show was one of the first titles it announced. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell and Reese Witherspoon it promises to be one of the biggest draws of the new service and, now that we have the first teaser trailers available on YouTube, the hype has never been higher. So what, exactly, can we expect from the new drama? We know Apple has already ordered two seasons of the show and will draw - at least partially - from Brian Stelter's book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. It’s Steve Carell’s first lead in a TV show since The Office, and Aniston’s first major TV role since Friends back in the early Aughts. We also know who’s in charge of the show - that’s showrunner Kerry Ehrin. Ehrin is a longtime TV veteran, working on a number of series including Bates Motel, Friday Night Lights and The Wonder Years, the latter of which won her nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Drama and Comedy Series, respectively. Can’t wait to watch Apple’s inside look at the morning newsroom? Here’s what we know so far - or, if you want to hear about other upcoming show, check out our guides to Stranger Things season four, The Game of Thrones prequel and Netflix’s The Witcher. Cut to the chase What is it? Apple’s first big drama seriesWhere can I watch it? Apple TV Plus When will it be released? Autumn 2019 (September through November) The Morning Show trailers We caught our first glimpse of The Morning Show at Apple’s April press event, but we didn’t get a full teaser until mid-August. The trailer (embedded below) focuses on the conversations and tone we can expect from the series. We can overhear the characters talking about the fame and prestige that comes along with the show and how that stands in respect with their duty as journalists, and plays at ideas of truth in the news. It doesn’t really showcase the show’s talent all that much, but it does set expectations. The Morning Show release date The Morning Show might not have an exact release date just yet, but it does have a release window: Fall 2019. That’s when Apple said it plans on launching its streaming service, and it would make sense that this would be one of the first shows available on the service. We’ll update this section when we get a final release date from Apple. What is The Morning Show about? Although it sounds like The Morning Show is Apple’s rival to Good Morning America, The Morning Show is a lot closer to The Newsroom than any of the morning news shows. That is to say it will be dramatic and dark with tons of character conflict. Expecting fluff segments with animal trainers? You won’t find that here. The best description we have of the series comes from series star Reese Witherspoon, who told the audience at Apple TV Plus’ April debut that the show “pulls back the curtain on the power dynamic between men and women in the high-stakes world of a morning news show.” So far we know that Aniston and Witherspoon both play leads in the show, with Carell playing a co-anchor named Mitch Kessler. Also listed on the IMDB page for the show is Billy Crudup (Big Fish, Watchmen, Almost Famous) and Nestor Carbonell (Bates Motel, LOST) among a number of other actors and actresses. Where can you watch it?For now, the only place you'll be able to stream the show is Apple TV Plus. Apple says it's a launch exclusive for the streaming service, but didn't say whether the show would remain there indefinitely or if it would eventually come to other networks. That's something we'll learn more about when the show debuts later this year. Here's everything we know about Apple TV Plushttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/apcap8OnbDE
  2. From the very first moment the idea was born, lens-maker Irix knew that the Cine 150mm camera lens was to be its most versatile and advanced tool for a filmmaking artist yet. Irix’s goal was for it to comprise functionality, stunning visuals, and outstanding performance in any environment – allowing filmmakers to discover completely new areas in film image creation. The Irix Cine 150mm, with its short telephoto focal length and leading parameters, is equipped with everything both professional and amateur cinematographers would need to create their masterpieces – with numerous functionalities and features bringing variety and uniqueness to your shots. Smooth bokeh, with 11 rounded aperture bladesWhere does the border between fantasy and reality lie? Macro wouldn’t be what it is without a dreamlike blur that makes the vital parts of your shot really pop. While designing the 150mm Cine, Irix paid the utmost attention to its aperture mechanism design. A system of eleven aperture blades provides a soft, delicate bokeh within the whole range of aperture values – while the rounded shape of the aperture minimizes the diffraction, resulting in sharp, detailed images. Alternatively, drop your actors out of focus to truly bring out the emotion onscreen, using a soft, blurry veil to craft one-of-a-kind cinematic shots that won’t be easily forgotten. Thanks to the Irix Cine 150mm, every single scene should enchant the audience. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Rx2JmCQMdy45QuZKHhMQQb.jpg Sealed to withstand it allHas your shot ever suffered due to unpredictable atmospheric conditions? How many times did sudden rain or snow ruin your perfect setup? While shooting, you have to fully believe in the equipment you’re working with: it has to be sturdy, reliable and lasting. That’s why the lens housing of the Irix Cine 150 mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 is equipped with five rubber seals (four in the PL-mount version) and other sealing solutions, creating a durable barrier for dust, rain or accidental splashes of water. A sealed construction ensures the safety of both the optical lens system and the camera sensor – meaning the only thing that needs your attention while working are the shots themselves, allowing you to actually immerse yourself in the moment. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/e2ueLQTbGYi9HVfyfm9kLb.jpg Magnetic mount systemOne of the features that sets the Irix Cine apart is its MMS, or Magnetic Mount System (patent currently pending). Designed especially for Irix Cine products, the MMS is a completely new system that ensures a reliable and easy mounting of accessories, making a potentially arduous attachment process now instantaneous and effortless. Why spend precious moments of your life fixing the mount, when you could simply take advantage of a well-balanced magnetic force system? Irix’s MMS system is also being planned for other functional accessories the company plans to release and develop down the line. Prices for the Irix Cine 150mm lens start at €1,195 / £1,027 for the Canon EF, Sony E, or MFT compatible lens – and €1,295 / £1,113 for the PL Mount lens. 3. Who can forget when the unpredictable happened and Leicester City won the Premier League in 2016? Thanks are due, in part, to data and analytics. When it comes to data-driven insights in football, the club is one of the most advanced in the Premier League. This year, in an attempt to ramp up their analytics approach ahead of the upcoming season, Leicester City appointed its first Head of Football analytics. We are witnessing data becoming entrenched in sports, for the same reason it is becoming embedded into the enterprise – to stay at the forefront of innovation. Collecting and analysing data onsite during an event allows for tactics to be decided in real time, but also offers the opportunity for data to be used for long term research and development of sports equipment and machinery such as F1 cars or bicycles. It’s not only football that is being transformed by data’s mounting capabilities; technology is revolutionising sports across the board, from tennis to motor racing, to cycling. Find the best in cloud analytics services hereGame, tech and match: the technology behind Wimbledon Whilst Wimbledon remains steeped in British history, tennis was actually one of the first sports to embrace innovation, dating back to 2006 with the first use of 'Hawk-Eye' to challenge line calls. More recently, the tournament is providing an elevated stage to exhibit innovations beyond the baseline. Powered by sophisticated cloud computing, the tournament now has a multitude of data-driven insights and AI services for organisers, fans and even players to use, to drive efficiency as well as fan engagement. This year, technology at the tournament has ramped up, thanks to an AI-powered service that uses cameras and sensors to track all factors of play and create a tight and effective highlights package. Each bit of action, from player grunts, crowd cheers, to the sound of the racket is monitored and ranked via its statistical importance within the match. This allows analyzers to understand exactly when play is happening, and to clip the best moments almost instantly, to make them available for the world to enjoy. Find the best in business intelligence tools herePutting data in the saddleWhile data analytics can be the difference between 1st and 2nd place, it has been equally pivotal in revolutionizing the sports fan experience of viewing the games. During the course of last year’s Tour de France, over 150 million data points were collected and transformed into compelling stories of innovation for fans to engage with across mobile, social, digital and broadcast. The complicated challenge of improving the viewer experience is achieved by each bicycle being fitted with a simple device that captures a GPS positioning point every second. In the same vein, this location data is tapped into for the cyclists’ own performance evaluation and decision making optimization. Data is utilized to calculate real-time insight into the cyclist’s progress, such as rider speed and relative distance. Comparing this with third party data allows for deeper analysis to reflect on gradient and elevation gain, weather impact and even visually enhanced 3D mapping. Find the best in cloud storage hereData: Motorsport’s Secret WeaponMotorsports has currently reached an unprecedented level of technical sophistication due to engineering proficiencies, thanks in part to data. Almost every race car is now equipped with a device that enables engineers, technicians and drivers to measure, understand and evaluate car driver behavior and interaction. In turn, allowing them to accurately adjust strategies to optimize overall performance. For example, the Mercedes AMG-Petronas Formula One Team has become one of the most successful teams in F1 history, but finding new means to efficiently collect, manage and share ever-increasing amounts of data used to improve racecar design and performance can be a challenge. Mercedes required an infrastructure that is portable, and that accommodates for the multi-disciplinary design and engineering requirements. Pure Storage eliminates the need for bulky equipment, while also improving performance - allowing the team to put performance-critical workloads trackside. Team members both trackside and at the factory now have instant access to critical data used to continually improve race car performance, ensuring that the race cars are functioning optimally at every second on and off the race course. Find the best in cloud computing services hereData analytics for a winning formulaFor too long, data has been treated as a liability and not an asset, often due to challenges to collecting, storing and managing massive volumes of it. Yet the ever-improving capabilities of big data platforms are creating undeniable opportunities for industries across the board – from medicine, construction, retail, to banking. Data is becoming recognized as one of the most important assets for innovation today, especially in sports, where benefits are reaped by both sportsmen and viewers alike. What distinguishes the winners from losers when it comes to data-driven sports, is that they have developed the ability to manage data as an asset. To achieve this, organisations need to have a modern IT infrastructure in place to collect, manage and store the data in real-time (and more importantly to achieve that much desired gold medal or trophy). 4. If you're looking for one of the best cheap tablets around, you've come to the right place. Not everyone wants to pay hundreds for a slate, and these top budget tablets are great for web browsing, emails, video streaming and simple gaming. The best tablet in the world is the iPad Pro 11, while the best Android tablet is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, but both will set you back a lot of cash. Best budget tablets they are not. In fact, none of Apple's current fleet of slates manage to dip below the £250 mark we've set for our best budget tablets round up, but if it is iPads you desire check out our best iPad roundup. The most affordable option is the iPad 9.7 which starts at £319. All hope is not lost though, as we've got the list of the best cheap tablets you can buy right now below - but let's make one thing clear - there aren't many to choose from. It's slim pickings for anyone looking to pick up a cheap tablet these days as the market for low-cost slates has somewhat fallen away, but the ones below offer excellent value for money. With the Tab 4 8 Plus, Lenovo has succeeded in producing something with a flavor of its own, and something that makes the mid-range Android tablet market worth attention once again. If you already have an Android device, commute regularly and want something a little nicer than an Amazon tablet, this is the obvious next step. If you also have a limited budget, then it’s your best option. It's a great value package for a 10-inch screen tablet. It does have obvious weaknesses, like the plastic design and useless cameras, but they’re understandable in a tablet at this price. They are useful upgrades and ensure it remains in our best budget tablet list. It's no tablet king, but it does what it sets out to well. Its crazy low price tag means it's perfect to hand off to the kids without the fear that they're wielding an expensive bit of kit around. It may be too small for some, and the cameras aren't up to much, but the Fire HD 8 gives you the core tablet experience for not very much outlay, making it a budget tablet worth buying. That's because the screen quality of the tablet is, well, not HD. That's a compromise you'll have to make if you're wanting Amazon's latest, super-cheap device, as it won't grace your eyes with a stunning display or slick performance. However there is enough power under the hood to get you through basic tasks, like streaming content or shopping. It's also great as a Kindle device, if you want your Kindle to also come with Alexa and the internet and the best books of all, movies. 5. Ultimate Ears and its range of portable Bluetooth speakers has done remarkably well in Australia thus far, with the Boom series becoming somewhat of a household name due to its rugged design and crowd-pleasing sound. Today, the company has announced that the smallest member of the family is getting an update, with the compact Wonderboom 2 now officially available in Australia for AU$129. The Wonderboom 2s maintain the small ball-esque shape of their predecessor, but the revised design minutely increases the size and packs in other improvements across the board. Check out our full review to see why we loved the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2Or see how the original Wonderboom made a splash in the portable speaker worldhttp://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/HE8kAcW6ux4VJjsD7iEu8R.jpg Ultimate Ears has promised that the overall audio profile of the new speaker is bassier than its forebear, for example, and a new ‘Outdoor Mode’ automatically switches the equalisation to be more mid- and treble-focussed for better sound projection when you’re outside. While you could pair two of the original Wonderbooms together for a volume boost and larger sound, the feature has been upgraded to enable the speakers to play in true stereo – now, each unit plays either the left or right audio channel, rather than just the same mono signal. The battery life has also been bumped up from 10 to 13 hours, and the IPX7 durability rating is now an IP67 rating – that means it keeps the same water resistance as before (“can be immersed in liquid up to 1m for up to 30 minutes”) but is also totally dust tight. The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 is available now for AU$129 in five new two-tone colour schemes – Deep Space Black, Crushed Ice Grey, Radical Red, Bermuda Blue, and Just Peach. 7. Huawei is holding its Developer Conference in China, and we've already heard about its new HarmonyOS and Honor television plans. The company has now also confirmed when the Android Q / EMUI 10 beta program starts for the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro. That date is September 8, reports 9to5Google, at which point you'll be able to take the new OS for a spin on the latest flagship phones (no mention of the P30 Lite, as yet). Huawei also confirmed which other phones will get the update at a later stage – a list which closely matches the one given to TechRadar back in June. The phones in line for an update are: Huawei Mate 20Huawei Mate 20 ProHuawei Mate 20 Porsche DesignHuawei Mate 20 LiteHuawei Mate 20 XHuawei Mate 20 X (5G)Huawei Mate 10Huawei Mate 10 ProHuawei Mate 10 Porsche DesignHuawei P20Huawei P20 ProHuawei P SmartHuawei P Smart+ 2019Huawei P Smart ZHonor 20Honor 20 ProHonor 20 LiteHonor View 20Honor 10Honor 10 LiteHonor 8XThat should offer some reassurance for those worried about Huawei's ongoing battle with the US government and its access to Google software. Right now it looks as though tensions are easing, though there have already been plenty of twists and turns in the story so far, and there might be more to come. New features arriving with Android Q and the EMUI 10 software Huawei builds on top include a system-wide dark mode, and new options for connecting your phone with your computer (which sounds a bit like Samsung DeX). Waiting for the Mate 30Also from Huawei's conference, one of the company's executives may have revealed when we can expect the Huawei Mate 30 and the Mate 30 Pro to get their official reveal. These devices are due to launch on September 19, reports XDA Developers, though that's based on a translation of a conversation held during a media briefing session – so it's not quite set in stone yet. Huawei Consumer Business Software President Dr. Wang Chenglu highlighted the date as the day when we'd see the new flagship phones as well as the new Kirin 990 processor, though Huawei usually waits until October to launch its Mate phones. The Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro should rock up with upgraded camera systems, and running Android Q / EMUI 10 (though the Mate 30 Lite might be a different matter). Of course we'll bring you all the news and rumors as we get them. Huawei Mate 30 leak points again to an unusual camera arrangementhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/GnFUSRJAJQA

  9. In recent times this fixture would have been nailed on as an early Premier League title decider. However, a change in fortunes and circumstance for Manchester United and Chelsea means fans and management of both clubs will have slightly more modest hopes and ambitions this season, with Champions League qualification likely to be seen as a great achievement. See how each starts out today with a Man Utd vs Chelsea live stream - no matter where on Earth you are. Chelsea are ushering in a fresh new era as rookie boss and club legend Frank Lampard takes the helm, while United go into the season after a decidedly mixed transfer window. Hamstrung by a transfer ban, much of the focus today will be on what sort of team Lampard has cooked up out of last year's leftovers and a raft of eager youngsters that must now make the quick transition from unwanted loan stock to fully-fledged Chelsea first-team contenders. Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjae also looks to set to be reliant on younger members of the playing staff making their mark on the first team as part of the Norweigan's "long rebuild". The addition of Harry Maguire will add some presence and character to United's back line, as well as a major goal threat at set pieces. However, the loss of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan on transfer deadline day without bringing in a suitable replacement now leaves the Red Devils's looking decidedly light up front. Paul Pogba has shaken off a back injury and looks set to start for United, but Alexis Sanchez continues to be rested following his exertions at the Copa America earlier in the summer. Chelsea, meanwhile, have been sweating on the fitness of key midfielder N'Golo Kante, who is a doubt with a knee injury Today's match looks set to be a fascinating encounter - check out our guide below on how to obtain a Man Utd vs Chelsea live stream - regardless of where you are in the world. 10. The road to Japan starts at Twickenham today in yet another battle for rugby union supremacy between England and Wales. Today's Test match marks the third time the two teams have met in eight months. Don't miss out on any of the action by following our tips on getting an England vs Wales live stream below. Despite the pair being somewhat over-familiar, today's game nevertheless looks set to be an intriguing affair, as fringe players make their claim for a more prominent place in the squad as the Rugby World Cup draws ever closer. Following a(nother) disappointing Six Nations campaign, England will be looking to get things back on track today against a Wales side that dished out a stinging comeback victory against them in Cardiff during the tournament back in February. Coach Eddie Jones has named a 33-man England squad and looks set to dish out Test debuts to wing star Ruaridh McConnochie and flanker Lewis Ludlam. Grand Slam winners Wales are on a 14-match unbeaten run and look in rude health ahead of Japan. Taulupe Faletau’s broken collarbone sadly rules him out of today's game and the World Cup, but his absence presents an opportunity for the likes of Aaron Shingler to make a claim for the number eight shirt. It's set to be a mouth-watering clash and is not to be missed. So keep reading to discover how to get an England vs Wales live stream. Football fan? 12. An opportunity for both teams to regroup after a World Cup where they disappointed, India are in the West Indies for a full tour. The visitors have already won a three-match T20 series and now the action continues with a trio of one day internationals. Check out our guide below on how to live stream the West Indies vs India ODI series, no matter where you are in the world. India's tour of the West Indies, has so far been something of a stop start affair thanks to near relentless rain during its T20 stop offs in Florida and Guyana. But when the weather has played ball, it's been India who have looked the stronger side. The change in format is likely to see personal changes for the next run of games, as both teams try to work out their best starting elevens for next year. Young hopes Navdeep Saini and Rahul Chahar have both shined for India in the T20 series, deflecting attention away from rumours of a rift within the team camp. The pair look likely to get a further opportunity over the next three games. The Windies, meanwhile, will be hoping Kieron Pollard's positive return from injury will inspire a side that still looks a little low on confidence. Follow the instructions below to watch all of the coverage of these ODI International encounters. We'll tell you how to grab a West Indies vs India live stream from pretty much anywhere on Earth. 13. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare could be getting a battle royale mode after all, except it will follow on from the main game as a standalone (and free) offering, due out early in 2020. This is just a rumor, but it comes from a source with a solid enough track record regarding Modern Warfare leaks – YouTuber LongSensation who has some 100,000 subscribers and previously leaked the name of the next episode of Call of Duty before it was publicly known. So, going by this, Activision’s strategy would appear to be that the battle royale won’t be an update for the core game itself, but will be downloadable for free, by anyone, to hoover up as many players as possible. In other words, it’s aiming to make a similar sort of impact as Apex Legends managed earlier this year, with a massive initial spike of interest and player numbers. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to be ‘fully optimized’ for PCModern Warfare multiplayer wants to become the adult FortniteThe PC games you need to look out for in 2019If this happens at all, of course. We’ve previously chewed over the possibilities out there which could be the next big battle royale hit, and theorized that it could come from Call of Duty. There have certainly been previous rumors which pointed to the possibility of battle royale with the game, although equally suggestions there won’t be any such mode (or that it could be implemented on a small-scale basis). Infinity Ward hasn’t actually said either way whether there will be battle royale, although nothing has been announced yet – or denied. Indeed, the developer seems to be rather guarded about the possibility, perhaps suggesting there is more to these rumors than might seem at first glance. Large-scale combatBattle royale wasn’t part of the initial multiplayer reveal for Modern Warfare, although a 50 vs 50 ground war mode was shown off – and it will possibly support more than 100 players eventually. And the presence of that indicates that the game engine is designed to handle large-scale combat, of course… The prospect of a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare spin on battle royale taking on the heavyweights of the genre like Fortnite is an exciting one indeed, but we’ll just have to see how all this speculation pans out. 14. We know that new iPhones are on the way in September, but might one of those iPhones be called the iPhone Pro rather than the iPhone Max? Apple's larger iPhones had the "Plus" label attached from the iPhone 6 Plus in 2014 to the iPhone 8 Plus in 2018. Last year that naming was retired and we had the iPhone XS Max. This particular tip comes from Twitter user CoinX: that name might not be familiar to you but the naming of the 2018 iPhones were correctly predicted by the same Twitter account, so it has a certain amount of credibility to it. How the iPhone 11 will fix your photosSamsung SmartThings works with more gadgetsGet ready for some updated iPadsThe tweet text – '"Pro" for iPhone?' – is a little on the ambiguous side. It could mean there will be both a Pro and Max model, though it's more likely that the former will replace the latter, alongside (maybe) the standard iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11R. What makes the new naming policy more plausible is that it would bring the iPhones in line with the iPads – the iPhone Pro would match the iPad Pro. We've had the MacBook Pros for years of course as well. The big upgrades in this year's iPhones look set to be on the back, with at least some models getting triple-lens rear cameras, housed in a rectangular box. On top of that, the usual internal upgrades are to be expected, though from what we've heard so far there won't be too many design changes from the iPhone XS. The introduction of a Pro model would suggest some kind of premium-level experience, whether that's the screen size, or the camera capabilities, or something else. We'll find out for sure in September. iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max and iPhone 11R dummy handsets caught on cameraVia 9to5Mac http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/dALn8zKN154
  15. Samsung surprised us all with the recent reveal of the Samsung Galaxy Book S, its latest notebook that aims to redefine what we can expect from a Windows 10 laptop – while taking aim at the likes of Microsoft’s Surface Pro 6. The Surface Pro 6 is Microsoft’s latest Windows 10 laptop/tablet hybrid, and it’s an excellent showcase for the operating system, with a stylish design, thin and light feel and some impressively powerful components considering the size. It’s exactly the sort of device that Samsung wants the Galaxy Book S to be, which is why we’ve pitted them against each other to see which one you should buy. Read on to find out… http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/VVVDWgDqhSoHvgGe6LpZ3g.jpg The Samsung Galaxy Book S is an expensive device... but so is the Surface Pro 6 PriceThe Galaxy Book S will start at $999 in the US when it launches later this year, and while we only have official pricing for the US at the moment, that converts to around £820/AU$1,500, and we expect official UK and Australian prices to be roughly in line with that when they are announced. That price tag firmly puts the Galaxy Book S in the premium laptop range – which means consumers will have certain expectations when it comes to design and performance, so Samsung has its work cut out if it wants to justify that kind of asking price. Meanwhile, the Surface Pro 6 wasn’t too far off that price when it launched, with a starting price of $899 (£879, AU$1,145) – and that doesn’t include the cost of the $99 (£99, AU$139) Surface Pen, nor the $159 (£149, AU$249) Type Cover. The Samsung Galaxy Book S is more of a traditional laptop, which means its keyboard is included – so you don’t need to pay extra for a comfortable typing experience. We don’t currently know if the Samsung Galaxy Book S comes with a stylus, however. The Surface Pro 6 can be configured with more powerful components – which raises the price accordingly. We expect the Samsung Galaxy Book S to also have a variety of configurations. So, comparing launch prices, the Samsung Galaxy Book S and Surface Pro 6 are pretty equal. They are both premium devices that may be beyond a lot of people’s budgets, but there is one thing going for the Surface Pro 6 in this regard. Since its launch last year, the Surface Pro 6 has had a few tempting price cuts, especially during Black Friday and Amazon Prime Day, which means you should be able to get it for a fair bit cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Book S, which due to how new it is (it hasn’t even released yet) probably won’t be getting any big price cuts any time soon. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/FX8U6i5VthTXK4mo2znXFF.jpg The Surface Pro 6 is a powerful hybrid despite its small size SpecificationsThe Samsung Galaxy Book S is notable because it will be the first laptop that’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx, a 7nm 64-bit Octa-core chipset (2.84 GHz + 1.8Ghz). Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips were originally built for powerful smartphones, but recently they’ve been powering laptops as well. They bring some of the best aspects of smartphones, such as instant-on boot times, long battery lives and always-connected cellular data to laptops. The Snapdragon 8cx is the first of the series that has been built especially for laptops, which means performance should be much improved over previous Snapdragon chips (something that we’ve often criticized when reviewing Snapdragon-based laptops). Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8cx will provide performance equivalent to an Intel Core i5 processor – which is a big claim indeed. We won’t be able to properly test that claim until we get our hands on the device. The Galaxy Book S also comes with 8GB of RAM and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of SSD storage. There’s also a microSD slot for expanding storage, and you can install a SIM card for always-connected LTE mobile internet. Meanwhile the Surface Pro 6 comes with more conventional components, which could give it the performance edge. The base version uses a quad-core 1.6GHz Intel Core i5-8250U processor. If Samsung’s and Qualcomm’s claims are correct, then the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx will be able to match this. On paper, at least, it looks like the 8cx has the edge, thanks to more cores (eight versus four) that run at a higher frequency, but it’s not that straight forward. We’ve used enough Core i5-powered laptops to know what Intel’s processor is capable of, so we’d still (cautiously) give the performance edge to the Surface Pro 6. The Core i5 in the Surface Pro 6 is capable of a boost to 3.4GHz when needed, giving it a decent uptick in performance during strenuous tasks. The Surface Pro 6 can also be configured with a more powerful Intel Core i7 processor, which will widen the performance gap further. The Surface Pro 6 also comes with 8GB of RAM, which can be upgraded to 16GB, along with a 256GB SSD and microSD card reader. So, until we get the Galaxy Book S to try out for ourselves, we’d say they are quite evenly matched, but with the Surface Pro 6 having the edge – especially if you go for the i7 version. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bTrnYVpQbCwHNUi7CX4PQJ.jpg The built-in LTE connection of the Galaxy Book S is a great feature Where the Galaxy Book S does beat the Surface Pro 6 is with its LTE connection. Being able to get online pretty much anywhere in an instant, without worrying about finding a Wi-Fi network, is a real game changer, and it also allows the Galaxy Book S to remain connected when not in use. This allows it to download emails and other messages, so they are ready and waiting for you when you open it up. Not only is using an LTE connection to access the internet more convenient, but it’s more secure as well, as it means you’re not relying on public Wi-Fi hotspots, which can often have security implications. Other benefits of the Snapdragon platform – like instant-on boot times – help make the Galaxy Book S feel a lot more modern that the Surface Pro 6 – which could end up feeling a little old fashioned. Battery lifeProbably the biggest difference between the two devices is battery life. Thanks to the Snapdragon 8cx chipset, the Samsung Galaxy Book S is capable of an incredible 23 hours on a single charge – essentially giving you multiple days of use. Of course, this will vary depending on what tasks you’re performing, and we haven’t had a chance to verify the claim ourselves, but having used previous Snapdragon-powered laptops, we’re pretty sure the Galaxy Book S will reach that kind of life. Meanwhile the Surface Pro 6 lasted eight hours and 45 minutes in our battery life benchmarks. That’s pretty respectable, but it pales in comparison with the Galaxy Book S. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/xykbv5GnUUsohsGfC6tfKG.jpg The design of the Surface Pro 6 is fantastically thin DesignUnlike previous versions of the Galaxy Book, which had a similar design to the Surface Pro thanks to its tablet design, the Galaxy Book S has a more traditional laptop style, with a solid aluminium case that covers the back of the screen and the keyboard. It’s impressively thin and light, weighing just 2.1 pounds (0.96 kg), which makes it comfortable to hold in one hand. At just 305.2 x 203.2 x 11.8mm when closed, this is a seriously thin device. Despite its thinness, it still features two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Meanwhile, the 13.3-inch display offers a 1080p resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. For the Surface Pro 6, Microsoft hasn’t strayed from its tried-and-tested design for previous Surface Pros, but that’s no bad thing, considering how popular its sleek and stylish look has been. The tablet measures only 0.33 inches (8.5mm) thin and weighs a mere 1.7 pounds (771g), which is quite thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Book S. However, remember that this is without the keyboard attachment. With the Type Cover on, the Surface Pro 6 inevitably gets heavier and thicker – though it remains slimmer and lighter than the Galaxy Book S. The Surface Pro 6’s design does disappoint when it comes to ports, with Microsoft yet again failing to include a USB-C port. So, you’re stuck with a single USB 3.0 port, but you do get a mini DisplayPort for plugging into an external screen. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/vaqVycGgbvdSSdo57oup2K.jpg The Samsung Galaxy Book S has the edge when it comes to ports The screen is slightly smaller at 12.3-inches, but it has a higher resolution of 2,736 x 1,824, which along with high contrast ratio and 100% sRGB support, means it looks incredibly crisp and vibrant. The aspect ratio is 3:2, which feels a bit more boxy than the widescreen ratio of the Galaxy Book S. In the end, both designs have their pros and cons. The Surface Pro 6 is the more portable device, but it’s let down by out-of-date ports, while the Galaxy Book S has a design that exudes class. Samsung Galaxy Book S vs Microsoft Surface Pro 6: which should you buy? When comparing the Samsung Galaxy Book S vs Microsoft Surface Pro 6, it’s clear that while both devices offer excellent designs and features, they are aimed at quite different audiences, which means choosing which one is best for you can be quite easy. If you want a truly modern-feeling laptop with amazing battery life, then there’s no competition – you’ll want the Galaxy Book S. This also applies if you want a laptop that let’s you go online almost anywhere – the built in LTE support for the Galaxy Book S makes this the clear winner, as you’re no longer relying on Wi-Fi to get onto the internet. However, if you’re looking for something lightweight but powerful, then the Surface Pro 6 is the one to get, thanks to some truly impressive specs – especially if you upgrade it. It’s also the more portable of the two devices, which makes it a good choice for students and anyone who travels a lot but wants to bring along a computer to work on. Price-wise, these are both expensive devices, but the Surface Pro 6 is often discounted, so you could find a real bargain. In the end, the cost might be the most important consideration of all. But one thing that might not have even crossed your mind is what to do about your broadband deal. The major difficulty of choosing your broadband as a student is the knowledge that most broadband packages are 12 or 18 months. That means you'll be paying not just through term-time, but also through the summer while you're back home. Luckily, we have a solution for you. An exclusive TechRadar broadband deal with a contract of just 9 months. And, costing just £18.99 a month, you're not even having to pay much to get this offer - especially considering you get to share the cost between you. So whether you're a wide-eyed first year sorting your new house or a final year student tiredly stumbling into the new term, you can see this offer in full below. Or see a full list of the best student broadband deals with our dedicated guide. Consult our guide to the best broadband deals for everything availableThis exclusive 9-month student broadband dealWhat other student broadband options are there? The only real issue with this offer is the speeds that you'll be getting. At 17Mb, this is technically fibre but it doesn't quite match the speeds you can expect elsewhere. With that in mind, if you still want to cling on to the flexibility but want some faster speeds, Virgin could be the way to go. Offering a collection of 1-month rolling plans with speeds starting at 213Mb, Virgin could be ideal if you're moving into a large house share. Unlike the Onestream deal, where this falls short is in its pricing. With prices starting at £40 a month, this will most likely benefit big houses where bills can be split across a good few people. http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/jPQNuaaNyAA
  19. Valve's popular PC gaming platform Steam is vulnerable to a hugely damaging zero-day security vulnerability, experts have warned. According to new findings, around 72 million Windows users are at risk of having their systems taken over by an attacker who could then install malware, steal data, compromise passwords and more. The vulnerability was disclosed by security researcher Vasily Kravets, who discovered a privilege escalation vulnerability which could allow an attacker with minimal user permissions to gain the same levels of access as the system admin. Nvidia graphics cards found to be vulnerable to security flawThese are the best Steam alternatives for PC gamersZero-day defenses are a good reason why you need the latest version of Windows 10A threat actor could take advantage of this by launching malware using those raised privileges, Kravets explained, saying: "Some of the threats will remain even being run without administrator rights. The high rights of malicious programs can significantly increase risks, programs could disable antivirus, use deep and dark places to hide and change almost any file of any user, even steal private data." Steam Client ServiceThe vulnerability itself affects the Steam Client Service which launches with full systems privileges on Windows. Kravets discovered a way to modify the system registry so that the Steam service could be used to execute another application but with the same elevated privileges. Unfortunately proof of concept code has already been made available by security researcher Matt Nelson and this makes the vulnerability even more serious as potential attackers now know how to exploit it. Kravets disclosed his findings just 45 days after submitting his report on the matter to Valve. Typically researchers wait 90 days before publicly disclosing a vulnerability as it gives the affected businesses time to fix the vulnerabilities in their software. The vulnerability has not been fixed already because Kravets initially reported it using the HackerOne bug bounty system. His report was initially rejected by HackerOne for being out of scope because the attack required “the ability to drop files in arbitrary locations on the user's filesystem” according to The Register. After Kravets convinced HackerOne that the vulnerability was both valid and serious, his report was sent to Valve and rejected again a few weeks later. Since the proof of concept code has already been published, it is likely that we'll see the vulnerability exploited in the wild soon. To prevent falling victim to the attack, it is recommended that users follow standard security protocols including not using pirated software, not reusing passwords for multiple sites and services, employing two-factor authentication and applying the latest system updates and patches since an attacker would need access to a user's system to exploit the vulnerability in the first place. If you actually must take photos with a tablet then we've got some good news for you: the next refresh of Apple's iPad and iPad Pro lines are being tipped to come with upgrades in the camera department. Japanese blog Mac Otakara, which has a reasonably good record in terms of Apple tips and rumours, says the next iPad Pro will feature a triple-lens rear camera and the next iPad will feature a dual-lens rear camera. In fact the slates are predicted to get the same sort of rectangular rear camera housing that we're expecting to see on the iPhone 11 models when they show up in September. Apple registers more iPad modelsSonos plans a speaker upgradeGet ready for a new Apple MacBook Up until now, even the most expensive of the iPads have only come with a single-lens rear camera (it's a 12MP one in the latest iPad Pro), so this would be quite a step up for Apple and the photo-taking capabilities of its iPads. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/zL9M8V7FujzPcnzNeKgPBH.jpg According to the supply chain source speaking to Mac Otakara, new iPads and iPad Pros are due to be launched this October, though for now we'd take the rumors with a little pinch of salt. It's the first time we've heard something like this, and while it's certainly possible that Apple wants to upgrade the iPad cameras, these devices are hardly going to appeal to professional photographers. What it would do is allow the iPads to make use of Portrait mode effects, blurring the background while the subject remains in focus. Extra lens would also help with augmented reality apps. Aside from speed bumps on the inside, we're not expecting too many changes on the next round of iPads, although this might just be the year that the entry-level iPad ditches the Home button and adopts Face ID. 23. Whatever Sonos is planning for its next speaker, it would appear to include Bluetooth connectivity, according to new devices filed with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Two new pieces of hardware have been logged with the FCC, the Verge reports, and one of them comes with Bluetooth on board. It would be the first Sonos speaker to launch with Bluetooth as well as Wi-Fi capabilities. At the moment you need to hook up Sonos speakers to your Wi-Fi network at home in order to beam music to them from a phone, tablet or laptop on the same network. Bluetooth would allow direct phone-to-speaker connectivity. Sonos Google Assistant support is expandingHuawei is launching a TV setMaybe you need an Apple HomePodThe Sonos One does have Bluetooth on board, but it's only used during the setup process – you can't use it to send audio streams direct to the speaker from an app (as you can, say, with an Amazon Echo speaker). Extra audio capabilitiesBeyond the model number, which is S17, and the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, the filing suggests the new speaker will come with a blue strip on it – no doubt to indicate its enhanced Bluetoothness. With Sonos events already in the calendar for August 26 and 27, as per press events, it seems that this new hardware might appear before the month is out (and could well get shown off at IFA 2019). The speaker maker continues to expand its product portfolio, adding AirPlay 2 to its most recent products, as well as support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It's also been working on speakers in partnership with Swedish furniture makers. Bluetooth would extend the capabilities of Sonos speakers even further, allowing users to stream audio from any app on their phones or laptops – not just those apps specifically supported by the Sonos platform. Sonos One is getting an upgrade – but it's not as exciting as you thinkhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/techradar/digital-home/~4/3CkZ97cLUVI
  24. Ireland head into the World Cup with plenty of work to do following an underwhelming Six Nations campaign in which they finished third. While Italy coach Conor O'Shea has an even bigger task ahead. Now's the time to pick things up and you can live stream Ireland vs Italy - from absolutely anywhere - with the help of this handy guide. Having beaten the All Blacks at the start of the year, the Irish had been installed as one of the favourites to take home the Webb Ellis Cup later this year, but recent defeats to England and Wales have tempered expectations somewhat. Ireland look set to run out a somewhat experimental side for today's game, with Munster star Jean Kleyn set to make his debut for the home side. Italy on the other hand have hinted that the side that plays today will likely closely resemble their first choice line up for the action in Japan. Despite playing what a strong side, today's game looks like a daunting prospect for the Azzurri, particularly when taking into account that the Italians have lost their last eight encounters with the Irish. And having lost all five of their matches at the Six Nations, they're on a horror run of seven games without a win. It's a key warm up game for both clubs ahead of the World Cup and its a match you can watch live and in full, no matter where in the world you are, by following our Ireland vs Italy live stream tips below. 25. Manchester City kick off their Premier League 19/20 campaign with a tricky lunchtime kick-off away to West Ham United, with Pep Guardiola facing off against Manuel Pellegrini, his predecessor at City. Check out our guide below on how to obtain a West Ham vs Man City live stream - regardless of where you are in the world. Having only won the league by a single point last season, Man City boss Pep Guardiola will be acutely aware that his side can ill afford a slow start as they look to defend their title. Never ones to rest on their laurels, Man City have laid out almost £140 million during the summer, primarily on strengthening at the back, with João Cancelo and Angeliño joining the champions. Sergio Aguero looks set to start up front having been rested for the Community Shield last weekend, but Leroy Sane - who may well have joined Bayern Munich earlier this week - looks set to be ruled out for much of the season with a knee injury. On paper at least, West Ham look to have been one of the shrewdest operators in the transfer market during the close season. Having shipped out ageing high earners like Andy Carroll and Adrian, as well as the disruptive influence of Marko Arnautović, the Hammers have brought in exciting young talent like Pablo Fornals and French striker Sébastien Haller for a relatively modest net spend. Going forward they look set to be one of the most exciting teams to watch this season. On the basis of their pre-season showing, however, they'll likely be shipping plenty at the other end of the field. It's a game that's almost guaranteed to provide goals. Keep reading to discover all the details you need in order to live stream West Ham v Man City, regardless of where in the world you are. And to find out how to watch the rest of the weekend's games and beyond, check out our guide on how to live stream the 19/20 Premier League football season. http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/VgyagGS9HpAEPUQtUJBfrg.jpg Use a VPN to watch Premier League football from outside your countryIf you're abroad this weekend but still want to watch your home coverage, you'll need a VPN to do so.
