Thanks guys, I'm glad I've got this to tell people that there isn't an advantage due to ping. I guess the thinking was they're not actually where you see them so you can't hit them, but you've stated flat out that is false. Now at least I can tell them this isn't true.

I'd like the experts to comment on this one. We've had a lot of complaints on our server that high-ping players have an unfair advantage because it is harder to hit them. I'm wondering if there is any truth to this, and if so what settings will either support making it easier for high ping players, or even the playing field for everyone. The related settings I have follow: set g_skipCorrection "1" set g_maxWarp "4" set g_antiwarp "1" Now this one sounds like the culprit: set g_antilag "1" -- I have this in my config, but I don't see it in the server WIKI (is it deprecated?) if this is 0, is it going to take this "advantage" away? I don't want my high ping players to just leave and find another server, that is not the goal here. Also I have this: set g_antilagDelay "0" Thanks for the help.

I'm wondering if there is a simple solution to this problem -- how can two different players use the same ET installation on the same computer and yet have different Silent GUIDs? I thought this was possible with different ET profiles, but it doesn't appear that it is. Reason I ask, we've got two members in our clan who share the same PC, but have different shrubbot levels. We're trying to find a working solution for them so that PlayerA doesn't get the same shrubbot access as PlayerB. Is there any way to handle this situation, short of having multiple ET installs on the same computer? Thanks

No $h1t? Go figure Been playing this game for 8 years and never knew that.

Depends on how much stuff you want in your logs. Do you read your logs, use them for troubleshooting, mine them for data? Answer these and you'll have an idea what sort of information you want to keep in there. The more flags you enable, the larger your log will be. I think they're pretty self-explanatory.

Seems that someone on our server discovered a new way to spam people. See for yourself: http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/127080262-4.jpg Seems this is done by /ignore /unignore (or whatever it is) over and over. But someone can obviously spam people by doing this. Maybe limit /ignore and /unignore to twice per map, sort of like the setting for dropping objectives?

Are you using a new script provided by another player? I know some people have custom scripting for nades to inform their own team they're throwing them - including chat and I suppose vsays as well.

We get some people who connect and play with names that contain hidden characters or blank names. One guy, it just shows colored boxes for his name because there is some strange hidden character there. How can this be prevented? Thanks. EDIT: I added this screenshot since I can't copy and paste it -- this is from our logs, the guy who's name contains the colored boxes showing other people how to do it. http://www.iowclan.net/uploads/name.PNG I believe its some sort of CTRL+key combination to do this. But I would like to restrict this so people have to have actual names.

Since upgrading to 0.6.3, trackbase says "mod not ranked" for our server. Is this anything you can control, or is it on the trackbase side?

I think you can do !stats in the console to see everyone's k/d at anytime.

Okay, may have answered my own question. Found them documented in the download, so never mind. Enables crazy gravity. Turning this option on will set the gravity to a random value in 30 second intervals. Enables crazy speed. Turning this option on will set the speed to a random value in 30 second intervals. @gaoesa Thanks for answering. Shoulda read the docs before I asked.

I noticed this was out today. Nice work, we all appreciate that you guys are continuing to make silEnT better and better. I can only speculate on the following features: Added: fast shooting. Use g_weapons flag 16384 to enable it. Added: !crazygravity and !crazyspeed commands.I don't recall reading for requests for these, so I'm not sure exactly what they would do? I presume the last two are equivalent to just changing gravity and speed server cvars, but maybe there's more to that? Fast shooting I'm not clear on at all. Thanks.

JvIastermind posted it. Thanks.

To play devils advocate here for a minute (although I GREATLY support keeping hackers off the game) - don't some servers have different levels of tollerance for what constitutes a ban? I mean, some people will ban anyone without evidence, whereas on our server we will never ban unless we have a demo and opinion of multiple people on the demo. I would be worried that some better players (who are legit) might end up basically being black-listed in the ET community because one server doesn't like them. PBBANs was like this, where you could incorporate the so-called "master ban list" from punkbuster into your server, but those were guaranteed hacks and not just somones opinion. Now that I've said that (consider it food for thought), I do like the ideas about breaking these files out. I also generally support the idea of sharing ban data between servers. I'd just like to know that I'm not wrongfully banning a good player, and I'm not sure how that can be acheived. Another thing that could/should be shared here is the MD5 hashes of unsupported client binaries that silEnT now detects. I've googled a few of them and found them to be related to wallhax, but some of them have no hits. Sharing this information between admins will be a good thing!

Might also help a field ops really be able to pinpoint barrages on choke points instead of potentially wasting half the shells on roofs or something.

Looked at your pk3 and all seems to be in order. Path looks right, file names look right and the file format looks correct. I don't know what to tell you, we have all this stuff working on our server with g_spreeOptions set to 4087.

Thought it might be a useful feature to minimize team kills for artillery strikes by perhaps showing the strike radius on the team command-map. Is this something that is possible? I was thinking like a green opaque circle in the area where a strike is occuring so you might be able to see it and be able to avoid it. Sorta how like mortar rounds show up on the command-map. Of course this could be a server var to turn this feature on and off, and I'm assuming a clientside cvar. (See the attached screenies for an example of what I mean --- the green area would be visible only to teammates and would signal the current blast radius of a current artillery barrage). Thanks for the consideration.

Agree. I was thinking about that last night actually!

Excellent feature!

LOL, not taking it personally. I was just pointing out something to think about You're right on one thing - having an established server with a good group of regulars and members who play daily is a treasure to hold on to in the ET world these days. My server is usually only active in the evening hours, but we'll take it because we have a great group of people, both members and long time regulars who have been playing together for years. Anyone can set up a VM with ET on it with bots, thats not special. So in spirit, I definitely agree with you on this one! I tend to stick to my own turf, but I know there are still good servers with actual people, seasoned players and cool folks out there. Also, good point about how much work there is to actually get into this game --- from downloading, to sorting out the mods, to configs and then to top it off, servers with expert players who know all the maps and know how to shoot and move around well. Its a hard game for casual gamers to try and get into. Although you gotta admit - for a game as old as ET, its still nice to see that there is a small, yet thriving community after all these years. The hard part (as you're finding) is finding the right server with settings you like and people who are good to play with. I mean honestly, did anyone who has been playing this game since 2003 really think at the time they'd still be playing it in 2012? I sure as hell didn't But as I said, I have a great server with great friends and I honestly see no end to my days of ET. Why not shoot for 2022 now!

Although I host a 'no-bots' server, seems kinda punative to people who choose to use them, doesn't it?
-
Or just get rid of http://, that is really unnecessary these days.
-
alright, wasn't sure and am not at my ET playing computer to be able to test this. Thanks!

which field of the command text should the color codes be on? When I do !help, I think what I see is what is in the 'command' field. I don't know what the 'desc' field is even used for tbh. [command] command = The name of the command. exec = The executed command. These must be commands available to /rcon and these will be executed with rcon privileges. desc = The help description of the cmmand. levels = Space separated list of levels this command is allowed. Also - this will need to be updated: http://mygamingtalk.com/wiki/index.php/Silent_Shrubbot Thanks.
