    Beck,
We figured this out. It isn't very difficult, it just isn't documented anywhere.

    1.Create a .pk3 file - in this case; we'll call it IOW.pk3

    2.Within the PK3 create a the folders:
    gfx\loading

    3. Within that loading subfolder, place your modified image for the loading screen. It's basically just a 1024x1024 TGA (saved at 24 or 32 bit only).
The image file needs to be called:  camp_map.tga

    4. Add this PK3 to silent folder on the server.

If that isn't clear enough, you can do this:

    /connect etforever.com

If you connect to our server, you will download ~ETF.pk3 which contains the custom loading screen (saved to your silent folder). You can then extract that file and modify the tga within it for IOW. Once done, rename the ~ETF.pk3 to whatever you want, place it in your servers' silent folder, and it should be good to go.

This loading screen change will only be effective on your server: which is good, it's not invasive on the core files of the game.

Hope this helps: post back if you have any issues.

It's a weird thing to think everyone else but you would be so dumb that they just mindlessly click on any button they are presented. Or that they wouldn't be able to connect to your server without a button. They managed to connect to the server without a button in the first place. Or that players couldn't handle using the server browser. I don't know any game where it is actually required to have modified game menus to get players connect to a community server. So I don't believe it at all if someone claims their server needs a button to the game main menu to get players to join their server. What we can do, is to see if we can make favorited servers more accessible or better known in a future release. In ways like adding "Favorite Server" button to the main menu while on the server. You can also offer regulars a modified menu at your forum, which they can add at their own free will. But this discussion is going in circles and I must ask that we will keep this thread clean for information to those who are testing the new version.

Sorry I don't think anyone from the moderator team speaks french so there can't be a french translation in this thread.

It is not AC related. There is no "fix" and if admins refuse to update their servers, it will cause issues that are obviously well deserved. It is not a flaw to not support deprecated versions. That is how all software works when there is no plan for maintaining the older versions. You are obviously free to choose what ever mod you desire for your server. If you feel your private mod is better than silEnT, it sounds like there is no problem for your server then.

Purple please stop crying already. There are no game play changes or feature removals between 0.8.2 and 0.9.0. The menus were a huge problem. It is the most complained issue on all ET forums and for a reason. Even ET Legacy added a command to mitigate the problem and you did yourself a small script to mitigate this issue that shouldn't even exist. Only a very few most responsible admins didn't force altered offline menus. Some admins had only a button and some admins did something reasonably clean with a second menu. But many times after visiting a random server there were huge changes to the menus. Things that can't be given a blind eye. Most of them are only intended to trip the players. The worse ones even change the game behavior in various ways. You need to think about it from the player point of view. You have a server you like yourself and some others also, but most players don't like your server. Why should they have to see your crap when they are not playing on your server. Adding command to ET Legacy is a good thing, but it's only cleaning after the fact. It doesn't do anything to fix the problem.

We are ass fucking an admin who is ass fucking players. It really does start to sound like that is what we are doing. At least on your case. We should have done it years ago to be honest. One of my biggest regrets is that we didn't do anything to the menu problem when we first discussed about these modifications internally several versions ago. Most of the people are the players, not a server admin who seems to think all the players are zombies for his pleasure. You should start thinking about the players first.

Don't try to kid. It's because you feel trolling gives you most attention and makes you look like an expert of some sort.

I think we can close this thing with you. I believe you will get yourself another mod from now. That is what you already said you would do.

No. There is no problem connecting to 0.9.0 servers. The 0.8.2 is deprecated as soon as we release the 0.9.0.

You don't need the other qagame. If you don't use your own Lua library you can remove the dynamic_lua directory completely from the server. The qagame is there as a replacement for the one in the root directory for such a case if you need to have Lua scripts that load additional Lua libraries or just want to build the Lua library from your own source. I meant I think your issue was client side and not your server. The bad index for string error you got with empty client side directory would fit with this. If you didn't download a new silent.pk3 when you connected to your server when you got banned means the pk3 was already in the client directory and it was probably fine.

What silencer meant to say, is that it is a bug, but it's not a code change we have done. We have a build system that produces a binary with the bug. We can also build without it. You will get a server binary without the bug soon. Finding out why we have a problem with the usual build system is still unclear. Thank you for the offer to help anyway.

Unfortunately this is a sad testament of the state of the ET community. It has been visible for a long time around here too. To make matters even worse, ET client game is one huge CVE with no realistic way to protect players. Only thing I can think of is if a project like ET Legacy client would start checking the binaries it loads to prevent proxying the mods, or at least giving the users an option to allow it case by case. However, I don't believe it will ever happen and there is the political element too, which is always present in the GPL projects.

I deleted it because it was completely off-topic, the content didn't make sense, for example, how does "will never be detected" part have to do with protecting players from admins who use proxy binaries to hack the computers of their players. The post was just kid rage from someone who didn't even bother reading the post he quoted. I will let it stay this time. But please, pay more attention to what you post and where.

There is nothing stopping players having custom menus when they start the game. The only limitation is that servers can't force their modifications to the players. If there is a way to support such modifications in a way that players have a choice, we can implement it. But for now, there is no such way and I don't know how to do it either. While you see the buttons for your server as such a great thing that you feel comfortable breaking client games, I can assure you that a lot of players will not appreciate your actions against them.

So, if your regulars appreciate the menus, they can install those menus manually and be safe from having the menus altered by any other server they would visit.

I don't understand why the players should have such menus while they are not on the server. Surely the players expect their games to be intact even if they visit some random server. The additional menu is used while on the server and it is for the admins to have a possibility for branding and for creating additions that are relevant for their server without making alterations to the client games. Enabling the additional menu while offline is troublesome, the players will need to have a choice if that is what they want for their game and/or which additional menu they wish to use, from your server or from some other server.

If there are modifications to the menus that benefit all players, we can surely modify the silent menus for next versions, if there are people who want to suggest such modifications.

I can confirm the change in behavior. Doors that opened away from face in 0.8.2, now change the direction every time they are opened. Doors that open only one direction seem unaffected.
