Fair enough.

The restart map is in reality a vote that gets passed instantly because it is issued as a ref command. I have confirmed the bug and the referee commands are erroneously also subjected to the vote blocking. It will be fixed in next release. In the mean wile you can do quick fix by removing the vote blocking from the vote if otherwise possible.
-
That may be the inbuilt vote blocking. You can disable vote blocking per vote. Note that this does not allow the voting, so you can mix these and get referees vote to votes that are not allowed. I need to check if the inbuilt vote blocking actually blocks referee votes also and fix it properly to the next version.

As an additional question. Would it be usefull to have the skill upgrades separated from the XP save. As an option of course. So that the collected total XP would be stored but level upgrade XP could reset separately as in campaign. It could bring the good from both. Being able to collet the XP and the fun achieving the upgrades as well.

One question, should the XP save be prevented if the g_XPSaveMinXP threshold is not exceeded? With high value for the threshold, it can cause some players to gain XP but so little that the last XP save time does not get updated. I'm leaning a little to the preventing the XP save to avoid confusion, but I would appreciate input on this matter since you have a server where you would like to utilize this.

You have g_antilag twice in the config. Also, you don't need to have set g_tyranny 1 because it is enabled by default. Neither one of those would cause the server not to start however. If the server won't start, there might be a problem with the map cycle.

Thanks. It is fixed in the next release. What do you mean with the xp save stuff?

The new files must have the same path and name as the default ones. Then they will be used. You can provide any of the following: sound/hitsounds/head.wav sound/hitsounds/body.wav sound/hitsounds/team.wav
-
You don't need to edit cfgs for them. You only need to make a client download with them in it. The teamhit sound is enabled with g_hitsounds flag 8 though. That is not enabled by default.

I would try to avoid complex functionalitites to the players. The reason is that they are hard to learn, would be used by only few players making them look weird. And they don't offer the sensation of achieving something. I would hope to get the rewards back to teamwork and not only nerfing adrenaline. And all the other undeserved upgrades like flackjacket and enemy recognition. Also, I do think the upgrades should be concerning the players who deserve them and not something they have to use on others. Please let us know, if you get or have any (even wild) ideas.

You should set the watchdog to the january.cfg. vstr d should be vstr d1. Could be the reason for the watchdog to issue the exec for the objectivecycle.cfg The name of the cfg doesn't matter at all. I don't see anything wrong in your config. The maxMapsVotedFor 19 would be the max that fits to the onevotelist without using the scrollbar. Something you may want to change because the players are not always scrolling.

You can add custom pk3 with different hitsounds. The default head and teamhit sounds are the Quake mod sounds, also known as ETPro hitsounds. The body shot sound is a quieter thumb.

This is pretty much an idea thread. Please keep them coming and the discussion too and do not settle with anything.

I think you have found a bug in the database implementation. The time of the player is indeed when he has last been connected and not when he has last played or saved new XP. The XP age doesn't have other times to compare against. The next version is going to have a new player database anyway to implement some new features so now is the optimal time to make changes to it. Please do note that this is not a promise of any feature.

I kind of like this one.

This is a good proposition. I understand what you say. Sadly the persistent XP save has changed the use of the adrenaline from being a bonus for good medics in the campaign, to an additional leverage against other players in gun fights. Which is deserved within so long period of time that it is not necessarily deserved at all. Or the player can forget about his classwork after he hasgained it. The same problem applies to many other upgrades also but self adrenaline is one of the most notable ones. One more possibility to make the adrenaline deserved would be an option to allow it after certain certain amount of medic work has been done within the map. Not necessarily a good idea, just occurred when reading this. Everyone who has opinions about this, or other upgrades that are not well deserved with XP save, please post them into this thread. Maybe we can find even more possible solutions for the problem in the silEnT mod. EDIT: I personally think changing the rewards to a shorter span could perhaps create more effort into achieving them. Sometimes it feels like all the gameplay is around aiming. And I suspect it is partly because other gameplay options (committing to the objective) does not offer as much rewarding feeling. Except for those who have already played the game few years ago.

Problem patching my silEnT server with 2.55+
gaoesa replied to carnage's topic in General Discussion
One thing to know is that you can turn 2.60b server into 2.55+ server by replacing the etded file. Also if you do it like that you need to delete few files that are not present in 2.55 installations so that the clients would not get missing official pk3 file notices when connecting. From the first error message I suspect you are using 64 bit linux and in that case you need to run the installer in 32 bit compatibility mode. Also, you need to have compatibility libraries installed because the required glibc is quite old and not present in most systems automatically. "sudo linux32 ./et-linux-2.55.x86.run" might work the installation for you. -
You are free to use any mod you like. The decision to remove it was collective and it is not coming back without arguments why it should exist in the first place. Yes, I do not understand the need for it and I have never felt it made the game more enjoyable for me. Also, I don't understand why the serverside aimbot in the ETPub was made, which was also removed by collective decision. You might say it is a feature that helps to fight against aimbots. But then again, "I don't see the light". With that said, ETPub is a fine repository of different techniques, but that does not mean every mod should utilise them all just because they are there. At least silEnT mod is not about these nonconvential features.

If you had no problems with silent 0.3.3 but you have those now even though you have used the same steps as you used with 0.3.3 to get to the server, I suspect it is something to do with the build. Usefull information to us is if there would be the Mac OS X versions and if there would be any log/console outputs or crash reports. We are very limited in the regards of the Mac testing and programming as our original Mac OS X developer has been out of reach for quite a while.

Differences between 'forcecvar' and 'sv_cvar EQ'
gaoesa replied to Dragonji's topic in General Discussion
The practical difference is that forcecvars are printed to clients while sv_cvars are not. Also, sv_cvars are checked for each client frame. The forcecvar only once. I would suggest using forcecvar whenever possible and sv_cvar when you feel it is needed. I don't know has there been any reason to select one over the other when creating the default file. -
The following information would be useful. Does it work after he has manually installed the pk3 file? Is he using fully patched ET installation? What is the OS version he is using?
-
TheSilencer has been the author of the new menu and partial HUD themes. So he is the best to answer this. Though, the initial intent was to include the traditional ET menus but some new features didn't permit this. The old one didn't have the required flexibility. I doubt that there is going back to the old. At least in the fullest extent.

Adding more is simple thing with the code we have. But there are limits to everything. Suggest something you would find reasonable for everyone. I think the original 3 5 and 10 is a good base and I wouldn't like to change that but adding more to the high end is possible.

I think you should as Dragon for the help because his old server had one well made lua. I haven't used the kspree myself so I'm less helpfull with this.
